You asked in a tag if anyone wants photos restored. I'm actually looking to get some of my mum's old photos restored, if possible! Are your services for hire? And if not, can you recommend anyone?
I am for hire!
Some things to know...
Not all photos are good candidates for restoration depending on their condition. While almost every photo can be improved, I cannot guarantee a perfect restoration on every photo. And some may be so far gone that you may not find it worth the expense.
I will do an initial assessment for free and give you an idea of what is possible. Since some photos require a much more complicated restoration I cannot give you a set price. Once I have evaluated the photos you want restored I will give you a quote for each one depending on complexity. You can choose which photos you want to restore from there.
Also, I am able to do colorization on *some* photos. So please indicate if that is something you may be interested in.
(I am working on a system to give people an idea of the cost before they inquire about my services but I'm afraid I am just starting this side hustle and do not have all of the details worked out yet.)
To get the best results it helps to have a very high quality scan of the photo. I can still do magic if all you have are old scans or smartphone snaps, but a proper high resolution scan will always give you the best end result.
If you have a scanner...
Send me the brand and model of your scanner. I will research the best settings and give you a step-by-step guide for how to scan the photos.
If you do not have a scanner...
I can give you instructions for how to take high quality photos of your photos. A smartphone is fine for this process. Please send me the brand and model of the phone or camera you have access to.
Or you can send the photos to me and I can do a high quality scan and return them.
If you no longer have access to the physical photos...
I can work with whatever form the photos are in. With my new upscaling tools I can even work with very low resolution images and get surprisingly good results.
I restore digital photos as well...
*Any* type of photo can be restored or improved. Even if was taken on your iPhone last week. If it is a special memory and you want the best version of that, I can help. I can also do re-editing. For example, if you have wedding photos and don't like how they were edited, I can match any style of editing you prefer.
For the initial evaluation you can just take quick smartphone pics and email them to me.
Please email any restoration inquiries to [email protected] and I will happily take a look.
Thanks for your interest!

how to connect to wi-fi services in pokemon gen 4 (DPPT/HGSS)
it's still possible to access the wi-fi services of the gen 4 games after the official shutdown of nintendo's wii/ds wi-fi in 2013 due to fan efforts by changing your DNS settings in-game - this is called the DNS exploit. this is popularly used in gen 5 which really has no complications, but in gen 4 it's a bit more complicated because the games are So old that they can't connect to the internet through modern routers due to fancy modern internet encryption. the connection either needs to have no password, or have WEP encryption, which most modern routers do not support. i had some people asking me how to do this so here's a post lol
first, it should be noted i use the pkmnclassic service, and i think you should too. this gives you access to old mystery gifts as well as pretty much every other wi-fi feature. their website also allows you to view pokemon currently uploaded to either gen 4 or 5's GTS through your browser. once you get your wi-fi set up properly, connecting to the internet will be easy, but that setup comes first. below i am going to list all the options i am currently aware of and able to explain
option 1 - phone hotspot (easy/convenient, doesn't work for every type of phone)
some phone hotspots are able to use old WEP type encryption, or be password-less. if you have access to a phone hotspot, it's worth taking off the password if it lets you and trying to connect to the gen 4 wi-fi with it before trying any other method, since if it works it's super convenient, just turn on the hotspot any time you want to do something online in gen 4 and turn it back off when you're done. unfortunately this depends on the type of phone and what OS its on and i don't have a list of what phones or OSes are compatible, so good luck lol. mine personally is not, and i have a fully updated iphone
option 2 - guest wi-fi (a little less convenient but still easy if you have access to router settings)
in the same vein as phone hotspots, guest wi-fi hotspots can also work, and this is what i personally use myself. the catch is you have to have access to your router settings, so if you're a young person using a parents' router without access to those or some other situation like that, you may have to ask for assistance every time you want to turn this on/off, which could be a dealbreaker for some unfortunately. but if you're able to do that, simply make your guest wi-fi password-less and turn it on when you want to connect to gen 4 wi-fi and turn it back off when you're done. since these settings pages are so different per internet provider, i can't really give a guide on how to do that here, though mine through verizon fios is pretty straightforward. some guest wi-fi may not work for this but i think most should
Tumblr media
option 3 - use an old router that supports WEP encryption (probably inaccessible for most, but only has to be set up once and then you're done)
i've done this in the past but i had my dad's help with the process, i cannot walk you through buying an old router lol. but yes if you purchase an old router and set that up you can have password protected gen 4 wi-fi permanently
option 4 - save backup + emulation through melonds (works pretty much 100% of the time if you have a hacked 3DS and some sort of PC)
MelonDS is a really great DS emulator that you can find here for windows/linux/mac: https://melonds.kuribo64.net/downloads.php
the basic idea is that you can backup your save file/game with a hacked 3DS using Checkpoint or TWLSaveTool (outside the scope of this guide but this is easy to do and you can walk through the steps here) and then run it through melonds, which can bypass all this WEP/encryption hell for you and simply connect to the internet. of course this is not very convenient if you have to constantly back up your saves to do wi-fi stuff but it's better than nothing if you have no other option.
unfortunately setting up the wi-fi can be a pain, and you also need DS BIOS files to run everything properly, which i cannot provide myself for legal reasons but they uh... aren't that hard to find lol, and you can back them up from an actual DS if you have access to the necessary tools for that.
if you use a windows PC, feel free to use my version of melonds which already has all the wifi shit set up, you'll just need to provide your own bios files under emu settings (it's a bit old but it works great for this purpose): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DQotaqFuBwXz1KYdQWiwxghtn3faLgj-/view?usp=sharing
edit: just found out right after posting this that the most recent version of melonds might work out the box without having to do any particular wi-fi setup? so feel free to try it instead of my version if you like
Tumblr media
if you are using linux/mac or don't want to use my version, you'll have to use the melonDS FAQ/google to figure it out, i'm sorry!
by the way yes, this means even if you don't have a gen 4 cart and solely play over emulator, you can trade/battle/etc with people who are playing on DS - they connect to the same servers!
okay and NOW once you have one of those options set up, you can actually connect to wi-fi in game by doing the following:
(these screencaps are from my capture card, i am doing this on an actual DS, but you can also do this with melonds if you're using that option)
Tumblr media
step 1: navigate to "NINTENDO WFC SETTINGS" in the menu where you press continue on your save file, in-game. in gen 4 you need to do it here and not in your DS settings.
Tumblr media
step 2: tap "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings" and pick any of the three connections here to start the set-up. if you already have some here, i'd click "erase settings" underneath to start from scratch.
Tumblr media
step 3: search for an access point and pick your desired access point from the list that comes up, and put in a password if needed (this assumes you have set up your wifi properly at this point)
Tumblr media
step 4: it will attempt a connection to the internet, and may or may not throw an error. regardless, the error doesn't really matter, you can just hit "OK" whether it's successful or not
Tumblr media
step 5: go back into your new connection (the box that previously said "None" should now say "Ready") and scroll down until you see the option "Auto-obtain DNS" - change this to "No"
Tumblr media
step 6: change the primary DNS to pkmnclassic's DNS, which is 178.62.43.212 - in layman's terms this will essentially let you connect to their servers instead of nintendo's, which are obviously down. as for the secondary DNS, either leave it at 0.0.0.0 or change it to the same DNS as the primary
Tumblr media
step 7: now would be a good time for a connection test. tap "Test Connection" in the top right. there should be a successful connection. assuming there is a successful connection, congrats! save your settings and enter your game as normal. you'll need to go to the basement of any pokemon center and pick up your pal pad, then try entering the wi-fi club (middle NPC at the counter) to test it in-game and get your friend code.
if there isn't, try a few more times or get closer to your access point - sometimes it's not you, the service can just occasionally be spotty. if you keep getting errors, you can use this site to look up what the error code might mean. if you still can't solve the issue, you may have to try a different method of connection as listed above.
sorry i couldn't be more in depth but frankly i'm not an expert on this stuff either, i'm just doing my best. there are a couple other options for doing this, like taking the password off your modern home wi-fi, or bridging your connection to an old laptop/computer, but the first is particularly dangerous so i didn't want to include it in the list and the second is completely out of my league, i just know people have done it before
good luck feel free to ask questions but no promises i'll have answers. if you need troubleshooting help i'd recommend pkmnclassic's discord over me, they have channels for that stuff (yes i hate troubleshooting stuff moving to discord and not forums as much as the rest of you but it can't be helped lol)

Hi, do you know any way to check eSim validity if you have a phone that doesnt support eSims? Theres no way for me to start to install one to see if it's still valid so I cant follow the guide in your megapost.
From the guide:
'If you don’t have access to an iPhone, see below under “Guide to topping up eSims” on “how to tell if your eSim is active.”'
Under "🍉 Guide to topping up eSims 🍉" in the table of contents at the top, click on the service that you're using. The first bullet point under that section will be titled "How to tell if your eSim is active." Further down is a bullet point titled "How to tell which plan is which," which contains instructions on how to reply to your original email if the plan is still inactive.
Frankly I'm not sure that the 'start to install the eSim' method is foolproof anyway. It once told me an eSim was valid that I know to have been installed, used up, and expired back in December...

Yeah, after kokobot (which put pedophiles in contact with someone claiming to be a high school student to test it out, and that also used mentally ill teens as test subjects) I’m not trusting an app with “AI advice” not to tell a bunch of queer people to kill themselves
Update: when you look up Voda, you get, in order
Notice that none of these options are about this mental health service.
So, yeah, this is very sketchy. I may end up downloading it myself so you don’t have to, but I will end this post by looking at the Google play store
First off, it’s rated everyone on Google play but 17+ on Apple Store (or 12+ in certain countries). I think this warrants future investigation on queerphobic App Store policies. I’ll look at why it’s rated 17+ later.
Additional features it advertises: Cognitive Journaling Exercises, so Journal Prompts? And “Support for Trans and LGBTQ+ Individuals” which is really weird to put at the end of the features for a queer mental health app
Also “Developed by Leading LGBTQIA+ Psychotherapists” is listed as “something you have access to?
Also enjoy this:
WHAT CAN I LEARN?
Unlock the power of self-guided therapy with evidence-backed therapy approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness.
If you really had lgbtq+ people working on the app you think one of them would know of the other meaning of “CBT”.
At least they supposedly don’t collect data, and the permissions look normal.
it does disclose it collects more data on iPhone, but the data is entirely related to the app’s functions, and I think it’s 17+ I think because it’s a medical app.

Top 5 MOST useful tools for blind people just starting out
Top 5 most fave tools for the blind overall
Top 5 least useful
Top 5 fucking weirdest and/or funniest
This is a big ask and I will do my best to answer, with the caveat that I am just a single blind person with memory issues who doesn't remember everything my blind friends have told me. XD I am counting other people as tools in this list because a person with eyes sometimes is a handy tool for us. XD
Top 5 MOST useful tools for blind people just starting out 1. White cane 2. Blindness skills training through centers, government programs like Vocational Rehabilitation, Orientation & Mobility specialists, and anywhere you can find it 3. Membership with the National Talking Book Library aka NLS in your state (US); I think the UK is RNIB and Canada has one, not sure about other countries 4. Supportive family and friends and other blind people if you can find them 5. Screen reader (NVDA is free for Windows, iPhone has VoiceOver, Android uses TalkBack)
Top 5 most fave tools for the blind overall 1. White cane and/or guide dog 2. Text to speech, screen readers, audio books, audio described movies and tv 3. Accessible smart phones (often iPhone but Android is catching up) 4. Bump dots (stick-on tactile dots you put around your home) 5. Braille and refreshable braille displays/notetakers
Top 5 least useful 1. Sighted people inventing crap without talking to any blind people ("smart" canes, "smart" shoes, dangerous devices you hold in your only free hand that claim to tell you what's in front of you but actually don't, screen reader breaking "accessibility" overlays, etc...) 2. That ring which only shows one braille cell at a time (that's not how anyone reads) 3. Strangers giving/yelling vague directions ("It's right over there!", "Oh my god watch out for the stairs (that you are halfway down)!", giving directions to the guide dog who doesn't speak English or any language because they are a dog...) 4. Hot liquid measuring devices (always broken, the noise they make is so fucking loud it's caused me a lot more injury than just sticking my finger in the hot liquid, will wake up the neighbors) 5. All but one use case of AI claiming to be for the blind, at least as far as I've seen
Top 5 fucking weirdest and/or funniest 1. Ping pong balls (good for measuring hot liquids) 2. Funnels (really helpful for pouring liquids) 3. The lanyard strap that sticks to the back of your phone so you can wear it around your neck (looks silly, is incredibly useful) 4. White cane holster (yes it's a thing, I have at least three XD) 5. Things being organized Very Specifically (close your eyes and YOU try to find the remote after someone put it in a random place! XD)

Modding your Litg2 app 101:
(If I made any typos, which is about 95% likely, pls accept my apologies) FOR ANYONE COMING HERE LOOKING TO MOD s6 PLEASE GO HERE FOR THE WORKAROUND
Strap yourselves in, this will be lengthy. You may cry, you may want to punch something, but trust me it’s worth it 😭 I’ve tried to dumb this down as much as I can so you don’t struggle as much as me, so here we go! Many thanks to @oliverslove for writing out exactly how to do the emulator method using Bluestacks, just answering my 50,000 questions and being patient with me 💛💛
First up, do you want your mod on:
- an Android - head to this post
- an Apple device BUT you also have an android device to move the game from eg an Android tablet to an iPhone - also head to this post
- an Apple device and ONLY have Apple portable devices but you do have a PC to move the game from (Start at Step 1 of this post)
- only Apple devices. No PC. No Android devices. I’m sorry, loves but this method won’t work for you at all!😭😭😭
IPHONE USERS WITH ONLY APPLE PORTABLE DEVICES BUT ACCESS TO A PC:
1. Download Bluestacks onto your PC here
2. Give it a little setup. Fairly straight forward but here’s a guide for it too:
3. After it’s all set up, head here
4. Download the most recent version of the mod from ModYolo. It’s going to basically download a whole new app, that’s how it works on Android. You’re just copying an Android without having an Android, you get me? (ps take a shot for every time I just said Android). So, in case you haven’t guessed already, you will lose ALL progress on BOTH seasons and have to start from scratch.
5. Now you’ve downloaded that, it needs to be installed on Bluestacks. To install it you need to navigate to the toolbar on the right side of the screen and press the small icon saying .APK (this lil guy)⬇️⬇️⬇️
Tumblr media
6. That lil icon will make you select exactly what it is you want to Install from your computers files. So find the mod you just downloaded (in most cases this is just in the computer’s Downloads area)
7. This will start the mods download to Bluestacks. Once it’s done, open it up and if it’s been done correctly then you should see the ModYolo notification at the bottom of the loading screen
8. The app will go straight into Season 4 as that’s how the actual app is just hardcoded anyways. But once you create a character you can just go back to the Home Screen and go onto season 5 if you’d rather.
9. So TA-DAH! On the Home Screen you’ll see you have a lot of gems and a blank space for tickets. This is just simply because once the modded app is on your phone the tickets don’t transfer over 😭 So, if you want to abuse unlimited tickets, play any progress you want to on Bluestacks (the computer) first.
10. Time to kiss those LIs goodbye and don’t make Bruno cry on the way out. Save your Bluestacks game to the Cloud (try and keep it to the one on your IPhone to save some time) it might give the choice to keep a Local or Cloud save, just click the one with lots and lots of gems.
11. Next, head over to your Apple device (the one you want to play the game on). No need to get a fancy app or do anything with this one. You’ll just want to load a game save from the Cloud and pick whichever has more gems.
And that, my friends is how you mod your game on Apple. 🤗
I’m about 85% sure you might have to do this again for season 6 as will be a new version of the mod looking at previous versions but I will look into that more and update this post!
I really hope this post helps a lot of you but feel free to ask questions and I’ll help best I can! Please also send @oliverslove lots of love for helping me 💛
We are both pretty active on the discord server so if you want the link to join and ask questions, lemme know!

However, it’s crucial to approach this with respect for your child’s privacy and autonomy. Open communication is key. Discuss your concerns, explain why you’re considering tracking their phone, and assure them that it’s about their safety.
Remember, tracking tools are just that — tools. They’re not a substitute for fostering trust, teaching responsible online behavior, and maintaining an open dialogue about the challenges of the digital world. As parents, our ultimate goal is to guide our children to become responsible, savvy digital citizens who can navigate the online world safely and confidently.

How do digital vs paper mediums impact reading?
The digital world is here to stay. PDFs and e-readers allow access to books without the space and weight constraints of traditional texts. Given this and that students are constantly surrounded by the virtual world, it is unsurprising that many students prefer digital books (Singer & Alexander, 2017a; Singer-Trakhman et al, 2019). Teachers, however, must question when digital texts are most effective and if there are drawbacks to them that we have not considered.
While this post is primarily aimed at teachers (blame my MEd), it can be useful for parents and students too! A summary is given in the section below, allong with a more detailed analysis after the second picture.

The TL;DR
The brain process information presented on paper differently than that presented digitally, although we are still determining why this happens. All else equal, students have consistently better reading comprehension when working on paper.
High school and post-secondary students tend to rank themselves higher on comprehension when reading digitally, even though it does not reflect reality.
The genre of the text matters. There is no statistically significant difference in reading comprehension for narrative texts between paper and digital mediums. Meanwhile, there is a very significant difference for informative texts.
The longer a digital reading is, the exponentially greater the resources required to keep the brain on task. Comprehension on short digital readings is at least close to paper readings; comprehension on longer passages is not.
Digital enhancement is not a replacement for a knowledgeable mentor. Students reading on paper with a teacher to guide them consistently outperformed reading on any digital medium.
On the other hand, texts designed to take avantage of digital enhancements - such as with activities, videos, and a built-in digital dictionary - do acheive better comprehension than reading the same text on paper without a teacher’s support.
Digital mediums do not influence test-taking positively or negatively. Outcomes correlate to whether the student studied on paper or digitally, regardless of the test’s format.

Comprehension
The overwhelming consensus amongst the studies surveyed is that reading comprehension is better when texts are on paper (Clinton, 2019; Delgado et al, 2018;   Furenes et al, 2021; Gudinavičius, 2016; Mangen et al, 2013;  Singer & Alexander, 2017a; Singer-Trakhman et al, 2019). Most worryingly, the effect size of reading digitally is –0.21, about equivalent to two-thirds of a year’s reading comprehension progress (Delgado et al, 2018)! There are, however, nuances within these results — reading digitally does not appear to impact comprehension for narrative texts the same way it does for informative texts (Clinton, 2019; Delgado et al, 2018). The inclusion of a digital dictionary can disrupt the flow of reading and decrease comprehension, but it does improve vocabulary building. Likewise, reading with an adult mentor yields higher comprehension than any form of digital reading, but digital enhancements aimed at improving comprehension produce better results than reading unguided on paper (Furenes, 2021).
Attention
Screen reading also appears to impact the attentiveness of the reader to the text. Gudinavičius’ (2016) research indicates there are significant differences in the level of attention required when reading in different formats with the most pronounced being between reading in print vs on an iPhone. This corresponds with meta-analysis indicating that information is more shallowly processed in the digital medium, making it more difficult to engage with sustained challenging tasks (Delgado et al, 2018). This implies that deeper and more critical thought is demanding in the digital format because more cognitive resources are required to keep the brain on task. It also follows that the longer a passage is, the exponentially more difficult it will become to process in digital format, a key consideration for teachers to bear in mind.
Test Taking
One question teachers may have given the rise of digital tests is if reading on a screen influences test results. Current research suggests that the medium a student takes a test in does not influence the end result. Likewise, it does not matter if students take tests in the same medium they studied in initially (Ben-Yehudah & Eshet-Alkalai, 2020). What does matter is whether they read digitally or on paper while studying, with hardcopies producing better results regardless of test format (Ben-Yehudah & Eshet-Alkalai, 2020; Mangen et al, 2013).

A Note of Caution
All of the conclusions we can draw about reading on screens vs paper have studies presenting contradictory evidence (Chen & Catrambone, 2015; Schwabe et al, 2021). Several meta-analyses (Singer & Alexander, 2017b; Furenes et al, 2021) provide a possible explanation: studies have failed to define what they count as reading in the first place and are inconsistent about the texts and formats they use in their studies. It is essential for teachers to be aware above all else that the question of how reading on screens impacts comprehension is a complex issue that we are just beginning to unpack. There are many caveats to be aware of when assessing the media format a text should be presented in. Our answers in this field are tentative, not definitive, so remaining abreast of current research will be essential.
Implications for Teaching
Research seems to clearly indicate that when studying academic material, working from paper is best, especially if details are required. Furthermore, the advantage that physical texts have over digital is also more pronounced when time constraints are a factor (Delgado et al, 2018). This is especially worrying when paired with the tendency for students to be overconfident in their knowledge when working digitally (Clinton, 2019; Singer & Alexander, 2017a; Singer-Trakhman et al, 2019). This is a clear warning sign for teachers — we must encourage the use of physical books for academic topics, especially when working digitally would be more convenient. The instinct for students to cram at the last minute by rereading their class’ slides is strong and may leave students feeling positive, but it does not translate to better performance.
Teachers must also consider what type of texts their students use digitally. A digital format is much more appropriate for narrative stories in Language Arts than it is for learning about activation energies in Chemistry. Teachers should be especially aware that while providing students with a PDF of their textbook is appropriate — emergencies happen and PDFs are useful for a variety accommodations, including speech-to-text — unless there is a specific reason to use PDFs, they should be a last resort, not the student’s goto for deskwork. A textbook that has been enhanced to take advantage of digital interactivity, on the other hand, may be much more appropriate for students to use a home when they do not have access to their teacher.

Quick guide to accented letters and special characters
Hey Tolkien fandom, I've seen a couple posts and questions about this, so here's a quick guide to adding accented letters and other special characters for all those tricksy elf names when using an English keyboard.
ON A PHONE: Super simple. Select upper or lower case and then just press and hold the letter you want to accent, and a lil menu should pop up with options for that letter. Press a for á, â, ä and so on. Press t for þ and d for ð.
Tumblr media
This works on both Android and iPhone, but the special character selection will vary by what keyboard you have installed. Some keyboards give more options than others. (In the image above, I'm using a Swype keyboard, and it gives me a bunch of stuff.) If your keyboard doesn't have what you need, try a different one.
ON A WINDOWS COMPUTER: Special characters can be entered by holding down the ALT key and typing a numeric code using your keyboard's number pad. The codes are in (mostly) numerical/alphabetical order, starting with upper case before moving to lower. So this means Á will have a lower number code than û. It also means that if you can't remember the exact code for the letter you need, you can just type numbers in sequence until you get what you want. I've only memorized a few, but from there, I can make educated guesses about where approximately I should start guessing for others.
Some common letters that come up in Tolkien's writing are:
Á = ALT 0193 É = ALT 0201 Ë = ALT 0203 Í = ALT 0205 Ñ = ALT 0209 Ó = ALT 0211 Ú = ALT 0218 á = ALT 0225 é = ALT 0233 ë = ALT 0235 í = ALT 0237 ó = ALT 0243 ú = ALT 0250 ð = ALT 0240 þ = ALT 0254
The ones I have memorized are á, ë, í, ó, and ú. If I can remember these ones, then when I need an â I know it's going to be somewhere around 0225, and I can try adjacent codes until I find it. (It's 0226). If you can't find the letter you're looking for, the Character Map app (search "character map" in Windows Explorer to bring this up) has this info and will let you copy/paste special characters into any program. If you use Word, the Insert Symbol function also does this.
Tumblr media
CRITICAL NOTE: the ALT codes only work with the right side number pad. They will not work with the top number bar. Sorry, friends. If you have a laptop with no number pad, you SHOULD have numbers somewhere on the alpha keyboard that are accessible by hitting FN or something. As seen on this photo of my wee netbook from 2011. On this guy, I'd have to hold both FN and ALT and then type in the numeric code, meaning ë essentially becomes FN ALT mkli.
Tumblr media
A secondary option on windows, if memorizing and entering codes is too much of a pain and you'd rather just always select the character you need, is to hold down the windows key and press . to bring up a menu of emojis and symbols. From the symbols menu (top ribbon), go to the subset of special characters (bottom ribbon). Clicking on the one you want will insert it into whatever you're typing. The frequently used (clock) subset on the bottom ribbon will save the ones you use for easy future access.
Tumblr media
ON A MAC COMPUTER: Listen. I'm gonna be real with y'all. I haven't used a Mac since I was a kid and used to go over to my cousin's house to play math-based educational video games. You don't want me providing information on this topic because I am about as knowledgeable as a newt here. This post belongs to the internet now and if God wills it, somebody will reblog with instructions for Mac users.

🐚 ⸻ ✷ GUIDE TO TUMBLR AND CLIQ RPING.
Interested in joining a rp that’s using Tumblr and CLIQ as there platform? Say no more. I’ve created this guide with step by step instructions on how to do so. Whether you use this guide to join our rp ( @rivalryhq ) or another rp, we hope that you find that’s guide useful. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us on our main. Thank you and I hope your journey into Tumblr and CLIQ rping is a breeze ! Without further ado, let’s jump right.
Tumblr media
Please make sure you throughly read all directions before sending any extra questions you may have. In order to gain access to CLIQ, you will need to provide us with an email that has not been associated with ANY other CLIQ organizations in order for you to accept your invite. While CLIQ is available for iPhone & Android Users, you will need to set up your profile on your desktop or by using your mobile web browser via your phone.
SETTING UP YOUR TUMBLR ACCT.
This section is fairly easy out of the entire process.
STEP ONE: If you haven’t already when submitting your application, create your Tumblr blog and make sure that your blog username is the same as your social media handle on your application. This is extremely important because the dash will act as your social media feed. See example below.
Tumblr media
STEP TWO: Set up your Tumblr blog however you want to your liking. Themes are completely optional but if they are your things and helps get your muse pumping, here is a few themes that you can use: THEME ONE, THEME TWO, and THEME THREE. Plesse note that these are completely optional. You may use whatever your heart desires.
STEP THREE: Now it’s time for IC interactions via Tumblr. Again, this is fairly easy, but if you are still having trouble understanding just reach out to us. The dash is your social media feed. Meaning all your tweets, IG post, tiktoks, and whatever other social media your muse uses. Your personal IMs on tumblr is considered your DMs/iMessage. We do suggest when you do FaceTime/regular calls to switch to your personal IMs on CLIQ. However, the decision is up to you.
STEP FOUR: Now it’s time for you to make your tweets. When making your tweets we suggest that you don’t use any formatting, but instead change the font to “BIGGER”. This is just to keep the dash uniformed and clean. All reblogs will act as retweets or reposts (depending on what the post is). When you want to tag some one in a tweet or mention them, just simply @ them. Here is an example of how a tweet can look.
Tumblr media
SUGGESTED TAGS TO CREATE: media (for images posted on twitter), instagram (posts, stories, reposts), tiktok, music, tasks, development, anons, and etc.
SET UP FOR CLIQ.
This section may be the hard part, but do not fret ! If you still aren’t getting the hang of things after this explanation, please contact us on the main page.
STEP ONE: Upon receiving your application & it being accepted, you will be invited with the email you provide us. Unfortunately, your email will not be hidden so please make sure you provide us with an email that you are comfortable with everybody seeing. Once you join the organization, you will then set up your profile to your liking. Please make sure you are using your character’s name when doing so. You will see an example below.
Tumblr media
STEP TWO: After that, some of you will see that you have already been added the “WELCOME ABOARD THE S.S HILTON”. If you haven’t been added, do not worry. You can join the channel from using the search bar.
Tumblr media
STEP THREE: Once you have completed this & you have noticed that you haven’t been added to you home, please message us so we can add you. We will attempt to stay on top of this but please excuse us if it slips our mind. When you are added to your home you will notice that you are made the admin of your home. You will then have complete control of you home & can add/remove whatever character you want. We ask that you do NOT remove the admins from your home & that you do NOT create your own home.
STEP FOUR: After all those steps have been completed, you can join any room you see available. You will join by simply hitting the “JOIN” button & you will have full access to the rooms. While you guys are not the admin, you are able to add a character if you would like. If you have any questions regarding set up feel free to message us.
Tumblr media
STEP FIVE: Now when using CLIQ, you will interact how you would on discord & HALL (if you remember that time). We suggest using third person to write. During the times that there are events, we ask that you end your message by “ @ “ the person you are communicating with. That way they won’t miss your response. You also have the option of creating a thread within the channel for you & the person you are communicating with. You will be able to do this by holding down their message and choosing “Reply in Thread”. If you are on your desktop, you will simply hover the message you would like to make into a thread & click the message icon to ignite the thread. If you have any questions regarding this, feel free to message us. Below you will see all the various markdowns that CLIQ uses.

iirc a while ago you mentioned disliking microsoft - just wondering if you have any recommendations for another os to use and guides to read on it? ive been considering switching from microsoft for a while now but because ive had my computers for a while it feels like a big change
i get it! i've been split pretty much 50/50 windows and mac for my whole life (with some experience with linux) and i'd say they arent all that different in the most important ways. the barrier for mac, which is quite a big one, is that you need apple hardware like a macbook. however, if you acquire one, you'd probably find the major things like the file system, using applications, etc are very intuitive regardless of what specific OS you are most used to. On mac, most things are very streamlined and self contained, applications do not use a central registry and while they store data in shared folders (for example, "application_support" which is roughly equivalent to something like "APPDATA" on windows), applications are mostly contained within themselves. for an illustrative example: firefox has a .app package in the applications folder, and stores its cache and history in application support, and that's it. as a result, uninstalling apps is almost always a matter of deleting the app file and not using a central uninstaller in settings (though some more complex apps have their own uninstaller). shortcuts and aliases are very rare, and in my opinion most things are easier to find than on windows. its difficult for me to explain exactly what i mean, but there is only one "layer" to macOS. windows is built on principles of backwards compatibility, so there can be a lot of junk where a more central cohesive system would be easier to use and less likely to break. one of my strongest frustrations with windows is that it has two entirely separate (3 if you count the registry) applications for changing settings, and they look and behave completely differently. apple's cohesion is a trade off, as it requires axing functionality that isn't common or popularly necessary anymore (RIP 32 bit programs), but i find it's absolutely worth it. in all, the way macOS functions is a lot like how a phone does, in terms of the way its designed, though i'd argue its more like an android than an iphone. it has a reputation for being locked down and less customizable, but i'd say that isn't accurate for most useful or desirable tinkering. it requires using the terminal and learning some unix commands but it's quite straightforward once you do, and less likely to break or frustrate you as windows is (in my opinion). linux of course is leaps and bounds above both proprietary systems but that's not really my area of expertise. at the end of the day, windows is accessible, that's its biggest advantage and the source of a lot of its problems. it has to run on old architecture, cling to obsolete and archaic systems because that's what people know and expect, and appeal to microsoft execs by jamming in new useless features to impress clueless shareholders. the main issues with microsoft is that it wants to be apple, and its management pushing cortana, and the all things people hate about windows 8, 10, and 11 is completely at odds with its fundamental design principles. that's why its so terrible and so ugly to me. macOS is like if those features were thought out, intuitive, and part of a well designed whole, instead of being wasteful, bloated, and a constant annoyance to the people who actually desire the unique things windows has to bring to the table.
oh and to answer your actual question since this just turned into one of my rambles: i would recommend trying out a linux distribution (like ubuntu or debian) by booting it on a flash drive and playing around with it to get a feel for the file system and other core aspects. its designed somewhat similarly to mac since they are both unix-like but its free and open source. if you hate it then its probably best to not spend a lot on a macbook. if you live near an apple store (or another dept. store that has electronics display models) you can go in and play around on one. there's lots of guides online, though i find its best to just fuck around and if things go wrong, seek answers online. also one last thing is that if you do decide to go with a mac, its no problem to just keep using windows for what you need it to. i have an old PC laptop i use to play video games that only run on windows after all.

Hi!
I can't seem to access your Rules and FAQ: the links only send me back to the top of your blog.
I wanted to know if ships including Bruce were allowed or if you wanted to keep this event ship-free.
Thank you for your answer
Have a nice day
Hi, ships are totally allowed! We ask that the work still be Bruce-centric and that Bruce get at least 50% of the focus. It’s ok to write from another POV though, often it’s easier to reveal things about Bruce as seen through his partner’s eyes.
Are you trying to access the links on mobile app and an iPhone? I believe there’s a Tumblr glitch that makes them inaccessible that way. If you click on links through computer it should work, or else in mobile browser paste
Brucewayneweek.tumblr.com/rules
Brucewayneweek.tumblr.com/faq
I’d suggest looking through our past year’s AO3 collections to see how other people shipped Bruce in their works yet kept them Bruce-centric if you need some ideas!
Oh, and the Rules and FAQ are also listed in the collections as well.
Basically a good guiding question is, what is this relationship revealing about Bruce?

The dreamy city of Edinburgh and the Scottish highlands
Scotland, the northernmost part of the UK. This will be the first time for all of us to travel and visit this country and we're all so stoked! We have been warned though that the weather is much colder than in England and apparently it does rain more here. We flew on the last week of March but it still is chilly. We arrived in Edinburgh already late in the morning; took the tram going to the city centre and already you can see and feel that this city has a different charm. First task of the day was to find a good place to eat. We ended up choosing a Japanese place where we had some sushi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then walked to the hotel and strolled around the city for a bit. We had planned something very exciting (and scary) for this evening. An underground city tour! This meant that we got to explore the "Old Town" of Edinburgh where there are still underground passages and vaults accessible to people. However, because these are no longer used by people as much as the olden days, they say that these places are now haunted. I have to say that I didn't really take any photos of the whole tour and definitely not whilst underground as it did feel eerily strange. (Probably will not do it again).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Second day -- tour of the Scottish Highlands! We boarded the coach from the city centre where the tour guide kept us informed and entertained throughout the whole ride. The day was a bit gloomy and because we're going to the highlands it's definitely even colder. But despite everything looking a bit barren and grey, personally I can still see how beautiful and amazing the scenery were. It must be even nicer to see it once spring has come. We got off and saw "The Three Sisters" in Glen Coe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before heading back to Edinburgh we had a little stopover where we had lunch in a town called Pitlochry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day three! Time to explore the city a bit more. A day where we didn't have anything planned so we ended up just visiting the National Museum of Scotland and then had a little coffee break in this amazing café (The Elephant House) where people claim that J.K. Rowling wrote some parts of one of her novels. What a stunning view of the castle while having your coffee!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last day in Edinburgh! Of course we can't leave without visiting the Edinburgh Castle. There's an incredible vantage point of the whole city from the castle. We've also been blessed with good-ish weather as the sun showed itself today. Ended up spending most of our day there. I think this will be the first castle that I've actually set foot in and explored.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another famous spot to see and what I assume most people recognise is Victoria Street. Lined up in a curve with these colourful shops and buildings uphill.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Four days being in this city is definitely not enough. There's still so much that we haven't seen and done. I adore the architecture, the history of the city, the people we've encountered have all been nice too, and the overall atmosphere of this beautiful city. This would be my favorite city so far in the UK. Maybe next time when we come back we get to try some Scottish food (for a change, haha!).

Discover the benefits of local SEO, the key points to understand about what affects your ranking and how important it is for your business at a local level. Local SEO is the practice of optimising a website and its online presence to rank highly in search results for local keywords and phrases. This is important because more and more people are using search engines to find local businesses and services, so Local SEO can help to ensure that a business is visible to these potential customers. The rise of Local SEO In recent years, it's become increasingly important to overall marketing efforts because of the proliferation of mobile devices and the growing use of location-based services. The rise of local SEO can be traced back to the early days of the internet, when businesses first began to create websites to promote their products and services online. As search engines became more sophisticated and people began using the internet to search for local businesses, it became important for businesses to optimise their websites for local search. One key moment was the development of Google Maps in 2005, which allowed users to search for local businesses and services using map-based search results. This was a significant development because it allowed businesses to create listings on Google Maps and to include important information about their businesses, such as their names, addresses, and phone numbers. Local SEO Stats Here are some statistics on the rise of local SEO: 99% of consumers use the internet to search for local businesses (BrightLocal) 50% of all mobile searches are related to location (Study) 28% of local searches result in a purchase (Study) 72% of consumers that did a local search visited a store within five miles. (Study) 78% of local mobile searches result in an offline purchase (Search Engine Land) These statistics highlight the importance of local SEO for businesses of all sizes, as they demonstrate the growing role of the internet and mobile devices in local search and the high conversion rate of local searches. By focusing on local SEO efforts, businesses can improve their visibility and ranking in local search results and attract more local customers. Another key moment was the introduction of mobile devices, specifically the iPhone in 2007, which allowed people to access the internet from anywhere. This led to the proliferation of location-based services, such as maps and directories, which made it even more important for businesses to optimise their online presence for local search. Today, it's an essential component of any marketing strategy, and businesses of all sizes are focusing on improving their visibility and ranking in local search results. Its rise has been driven by consumers' increasing use of search engines and mobile devices, and by the development of technologies and platforms that allow businesses to optimise their online presence for local search. With the ability to access the internet from anywhere and the increasing use of location-based apps and services, it's more important than ever for businesses to optimise their online presence for local search. What affects your ranking? There are several factors that can affect a business's local ranking, including the presence of accurate and consistent business information (such as the business name, address, and phone number) on the website and other online platforms, the inclusion of relevant local keywords and phrases in the website's content and meta tags, and the presence of positive reviews and ratings from customers. A good listing should include the following elements: Business name: Make sure to include the full and accurate business name in the listing. Address: Include the full and accurate address of the business, including the street name and number, city, state, and zip code. Phone number: Include the business's main phone number in the listing. Business hours: Include the business's regular hours of operation in the listing.
Website URL: Include the business's website URL in the listing. Categories: Choose relevant categories that describe the products or services offered by the business. Photos: Include high-quality photos of the business, its products, or its services. Description: Write a concise and compelling description of the business and its products or services. Reviews: Include positive reviews and ratings from customers in the listing. By including these elements in a Local SEO listing, businesses can improve their visibility and ranking in local search results and attract more local customers. By focusing on these and other local SEO factors, businesses can improve their visibility and ranking in search results for local keywords and phrases, which can help to drive more traffic and leads to their websites. This can be particularly important for small businesses and local service providers, as local SEO can help to level the playing field and allow them to compete with larger, national brands. Benefits of Local SEO: Improved local visibility: Local SEO can help to improve a business's visibility in local search results, making it easier for local customers to find the business online. Increased website traffic: By ranking highly in local search results, a business's website is more likely to receive traffic from local customers who are searching for the types of products or services the business offers. Increased leads and sales: By attracting more local customers to its website, a business is more likely to generate leads and sales from those customers. Improved user experience: By providing accurate and relevant information about a business, Local SEO can improve the user experience for local customers by making it easier for them to find the information they need. Competitive advantage: By optimizing their online presence for local search, businesses can gain a competitive advantage over other businesses in their area that are not optimizing for local search. It can provide a variety of benefits to businesses, including improved local visibility, increased website traffic, increased leads and sales, improved user experience, and a competitive advantage. Key points to understand Local SEO is the practice of optimising a website and its online presence to rank highly in search results for relevant local keywords and phrases. It has become increasingly important in recent years due to the proliferation of mobile devices and the growing use of location-based services. There are several factors that can affect a business's visibility, including accurate (and consistent) business information, the use of relevant keywords and the presence of positive reviews and ratings. Local SEO can be particularly important for small businesses and local service providers, as it can help them to compete with larger, national brands for local business. To implement what we've shown you effectively, it's important to focus on these and other factors and to regularly monitor and update the business's online presence to ensure that it is optimised for local search. By implementing Local SEO correctly, businesses can improve their visibility and ranking in local search results and attract more local customers. Concluding our Local SEO Rough Guide Overall, local SEO, like other forms of optimisation such as pillar pages that create content clusters on a website, or technical SEO that makes websites more SEO-friendly, is an important component of any marketing strategy, and by focusing on local SEO efforts, businesses can improve their online visibility and attract more local customers.
