Did I just come up with the major plot point and driving force for the second book yes I did.
Here are some quotes to peak your interest: "Apollo take Y/N and get her out of here!" - Zeus "Where are you going, little goddess?" - Athena "I am time itself...there is nothing I cannot destroy." - Cronus "I won't be able to stop him. Not by myself..." "I got an idea, do you give me permission to enter your realm when we come back?" - Conversation between Y/N and Apollo "He would have wanted it this way..." -Hera

All Hail the New Queen Chapter 1 (Rewrite)
Hey all! That's right I am slowly getting back to this and wanted to share the rewrite! There are a couple changes though.
1st, this is no longer a reader insert! But it should read the same. I am just preparing this for potential publication. That being said I won't be sharing a whole lot of 'rewrite' content, but I am in the process of outlining BOOK TWO! AHHHH...and since my first process was to write as a reader insert you can hopefully look forward to it!
Would love thoughtful critics! Please enjoy and dive into Hades' world again!

-Hades-
The Underworld…a place for departed souls. A place for those lost before their time and those who have finally found rest. Ruled by the strict hand of the god, Hades, who’s golden eyes now moved across the five rivers that divided the dominion separating the souls into their proper places. This king frowned as another shaded soul slipped from the bank into the Acheron. Human souls were so fragile and easily gave into pain instead of attempting to stay on the banks for their time. This king didn’t decide the time spent on the banks, that fell to the judges he appointed and truly it was a recommendation. If their time was spent serving the Underworld, they would make it to Asphodel.
The pale king tensed feeling a presence enter his realm. It wasn’t uncommon for him to get visitors. His brothers worried that he worked too hard and would attempt to get him to stop for a while. This was not the presence of a god though…this was a living presence…at mortal.
He walked a long open rotunda of this tower looking for the source. If it was a living soul, there would be a sign. Those that weren’t dead shed a light here that would attract attention of everything that resided in his realm. Sure enough, toward Minos’ maze there was an unmistakable shimmer. Curiosity burned in Hades’ chest. It had been nearly a millennium since some mortal had entered his realm, but instead of pursuing it he turned away. If the maze didn’t stop them the rest of the realm would. He would not concern himself with a fool.
Try as he might to ignore the small fearful presence, it remained. For hours it nagged and pulled on the back of his mind alerting him that this mortal was getting closer. Yet he was certain that a mortal from the 21st century would not make it to his sanctum.
So, when the creak of the doors groaned from disuse his heart jumped to his throat. He planted himself against one of the large white marble pillars of the rotunda. What mortal could make it here? And for what purpose? Heavy slow footsteps echoed against the domed roof accompanied by soft sobs. He dared not make a move yet. He wasn’t afraid, just shocked.
“I want to make a deal!” He jumped slightly at the shout. A strong but strained voice pierced the quiet room hanging there before a soft heartfelt plea, “Please…please answer me…”
Hades swallowed and slowing chanced to peer out of his hiding spot. He watched a young woman slowly fall to her knees. She was covered head to toe in ash, perhaps she came from Avernus? Her long brown hair was braided to one side hanging over her shoulder as she leaned forward in…prayer? Yes…yes, she was praying to him. What a strange sensation to be sought after. Of course he still had some followers which was certainly better then most of his brethren. A warmth spread through him from a believer. He slowly stepped out from behind the pillar watching her getting no sense of danger. She was praying for him to appear. A simple request, one he felt he could grant. When he spoke, his voice echoed against the walls making his location hard to pinpoint in the dark temple, “You think yourself worthy to deal with the King of the Underworld?”
“No.” The answer surprised him. It wasn’t often a mortal could pull that off. Her face was pitiful when she lifted it to look around, sweat and tears fell down her face, “No, I am not worthy, but my brother is. He gave everything to a country that doesn’t even want to recognize his sacrifice.”
“Did he die?” He glanced over to the river of souls out the window, a mesmerizing ripple of colors depicting the different souls and their destinations of the afterlife.
“No.” She trembled as she continued to look about the dimly lit space. He ensured he remained out of view moving slowly just out of her perception, “He was paralyzed from the waist down. He’s a strong and proud man but this i-it broke him. He tried to kill himself with his IV tubes. He was completely blue when I found him.”
He paused watching this woman hung her head shutting her eyes letting the painful memory wash over herself. A side effect of the Underworld was that any real memory had was amplified, almost as if you were reliving the moment. Things were meant to be felt down here, a product of a soul being judged and placed. He took another step toward her feeling more secure as the conversation continued, “And you…what? Want me to give his mobility back?”
“Yes…you wouldn’t just be helping him. You’d be helping my whole family. Jonah is the only good thing that has happened…he’s made something of himself…” She tensed for a moment, finally sensing him behind her before beginning to turn her head. She seemed to be very preceptive, interesting…
“Don’t move.” He watched her freeze instantly. Listening could be added to the list of good traits for what might come next. He took another step forward as she turned her head away from him, “And what would you offer in return for this sudden miracle?”
She shivered as his cool presence stopped right behind her. Her trembling didn’t stop in her body, but never showed in her voice, “Whatever it takes.”
Always the answer. Every human was so noble, so ready to throw everything away. Hades sighed before he knelt behind her. He reached out tucking a loose hair behind her ear as he leaned whispering, “Whatever it takes?”
“Yes.” She shut her eyes and swallowed down another wave of emotions, no doubt trying to overtake her.
“Your soul?” He let the backs of his fingers trail down her neck to the collared rust colored plaid shirt she wore. It stood out against the light olive tones of her skin.
“Yes.”
“That’s too easy.” He let both his hands grasp her shoulders suddenly making her more tense. He was playing a game at this point. Anyone who decided to meet a god should expect something of this nature. Afterall he was thousands of years old…boredom happens, and this was new, “Your soul is already going to end up here eventually. No, no…I would need a real sacrifice.”
“Name it.” He tilted his head as her voice firmly declared her resolve, “Whatever the price is, I’ll pay it.”
He flexed his fingers on her tense frame letting his eyes scan over the room. His landed on one of the many statues at the altar. Persephone…She visited when she was required, but thousands of years changed the relationship. No longer married, but when a deal is struck, and the world shifted because of it order needed to remain. The rules dictated she had to help in the winter. They were still friendly though. Perhaps it was the blood of gods that kept them from truly forming a real committed relationship, but now wasn’t the time to speculate on that. Now he had a plan…one rashly made and not entirely thought out.
“I want you.” He whispered finally as fog began rolling in from the annexes as he began to tell her the price of what she asked of him, “All of you…A woman who would find her way down to hell is someone with potential…what say you to that?”
“…” Her silence filled the void, and he was certain the fickleness of man would present itself. But another moment passed by as her eyes opened. He could tell now she was thinking it all through. It wasn’t a simple request, but it would get her everything she asked for. He had eternity, so what was a few more moments.
“One condition-” She gasped as he leaned forward once more asserting himself.
“That’s not how this works, you wanted a deal. I gave it to you.” He pressed his mouth against her ear gripping her shoulders tightly. She grimaced more than he thought she would. It was then he saw the trickle of blood moving down from under her sleeve. Had she been hurt? He’d been so blindsided by her presence he hadn’t taken her in fully.
“P-please it doesn’t stop me from doing ask you ask.” She whispered as her shoulders pulled upward despite his grip loosening. He had never meant to hurt her. She shut her eyes once more before turning her head slightly as if to face him, but still obeying his request from earlier, “Allow me to tell you no on occasion. Little things: eat this…no…read this…no…stand here… Trivial things and small annoyances nothing that would prevent you from really having what you want. I promise I will not do it every day…but allow a small rebellion.”
He tilted his head in thought before taking in a breath. It was an odd request. He should say no take what he offered or leave, but there was something that made him consider it. Likely that he longed for a companion again. Living here alone day after day…he knew why his brothers worried. He let a resigned sigh adding his own amendment, “Only if you look me in the eye when you say no. So, I know it’s that request. Do we have a deal?”
“Yes.” There was no hesitation. She was committed he’d give her that.
“Good.” He reached a hand forward producing a part of the ritual that would seal their deal, “Open your eyes.”
She did so, seeing his pale hand in front of her, his palm was open holding pomegranate seeds. She let out a soft laugh that tickled his ears, “I did not think the king of hell would be so poetic…”
The warmth of her fingers didn’t shock him. He was naturally colder than any creature, but when she turned to put the fruit in her mouth making eye contact with him with dark blue eyes, it shook something inside of him for a second. A small act of defiance, for sure. But these were the eyes of a believer. A true believer. His very being vibrated slightly as her eyes locked with his, her side of the deal struck tying their weaves together.
All of this happened in a moment. Just as he also began fulfilling his end of the deal. Somewhere far away on the surface, her brother felt warmth return where he’d been cold for so many months. He regained himself quickly as a smirk fell on this face, “I have my moments as you will find.”
Hades looked her over more trying to ascertain if she had anymore wounds. She shifted uncomfortably under his gaze, no doubt thinking he was being lewd. He took in a small breath before speaking again, “Tell me your name.”
“Mia Petrakis.” Of course, it was. In his family names were everything and what they meant carried weight. He wondered if his beautiful rock would sink him or anchor him?

“Slow down…” You stared at him worry filling you.
“Y/N?” You both looked over to your mother standing with two cups of what you assumed to be tea, in her hands a confused and concerned look.
“Ma…I’m…this is Nick’s brother, Zack.” You rattled off quickly, “Something’s happened to their other brother Paul…I’m gonna go with Zack and meet Nick at the hospital.”
“Oh my…” Your mother looked at you worried, “Please let me know if I can do anything. Give Nick my love.”
You walked over to her kissing her cheek, “I love you so much…”
“Oh… Lígo…everything will be fine.” She told you when you hugged her. She rubbed your back supportively before kissing your cheek.
You gave her a smile before turning to Zeus hoping she was right, “Let’s go.”
He took you outside putting his arm around you using the same method of travel Hades did popping you outside the guard house of your home. You looked over seeing Apollo and Poseidon applying pressure to Charon's chest, “What happened?”
You knelt down next to Charon passed out as Zeus filled you in, “We found him like this after…a spell was broken on Athna, alerting us that she was a distraction…Charon will live, but we can’t reach Hades.”
“What? For how long?” You stood back up clenching your fist as you looked between Zeus and Poseidon.
Zeus glanced over to his brother before he explained, “For us, a few hours, for you…a week…”
“I don’t understand…” You looked at them all slowly your brow coming together, “So you’ve been in touch with him all week…he’s been texting me…”
“No, Y/N…” Zeus frowned putting his hands on your arms, “Cronus is a manipulator of time and he has done something to this place and to Athena…”
“Athena, does she-”
“Please, Y/N, there is not much time!” Zeus interrupted you squeezing your arms tightly, “Regardless of how everything is possible, it’s all immaterial because my brother is in that house…the Underworld… with our father, and you are the only one who can get in there without Charon’s permission.”
You looked back toward the house staring at it, “H-he’s still in there?”
Poseidon stood up walking over to you, “Y/N, you just have to get in there and hide until we can get Charon awake. Once he is you can give him permission to let us in.”
“But he is in there, right?” You looked at her eyes turning fierce. When they didn’t respond you turned toward the gate pushing it open.
“Y/N, wait.” You paused looking at Apollo who pulled out a phone from his pocket, “Call your number, then at least you can tell us what’s going on.”
After setting everything up you started the walk to the house. Your heart was thumping against your chest you were sure you were going to get a bruise. Thankfully, listening to the banter of gods cut some of the edge off, “When did you get one of these?”
Apollo responded distantly, “Since doing sweeps with Hades. He was always texting Y/N…thought I’d look into it. I do have a steady following still and it’s easier to blend into a crowd with one of these things pressed against your face.”
“You’re too smart for your own good, and a bad liar.” Zeus told him trying to sound aloof. It wasn’t working.
“Liar? I don’t know what you’re referring to.” Apollo muttered.
“He’s referring to your new friendship with Y/N.” Poseidon piped in with a sigh, “Now enough, she’s almost there and we don’t need to distract her or cause anyone to notice her.”
“We’re muting ourselves Y/N…just be safe…above all hide, do not try to be a hero.” Zeus warned you quietly, “Hades would never forgive me if you got hurt.”
“I’ll be careful…” You told them taking a deep breath before walking into the garage. Nothing seemed amiss in here.
You touched the doorknob to the kitchen swallowing down the fear as you pushed it open. You stepped inside instantly feeling cold as you saw your breath on the air. You moved through the dark hall slowly stopping when you saw the wall marred with large gashes and smeared blood. You heart began to race as you turned away rushing forward.
The house was a mess, and your fear kept growing the more damage you saw. More blood on the floor…handprints on the walls. Unable you contain yourself anymore you began whispering, “No…no no no…”
You rushed into his office and everything froze. Destroyed wasn’t even a word to describe what you were seeing. Debris from the furniture was scattered everywhere. You put your hand to your mouth choking down a sob as you stepped further in seeing his bident cast off to the side.
You stopped once more when you saw a glimmer out of the corner of your eye. Against the damaged wall was a floating sphere. You stepped toward it whispering, “…I don’t see anyone…there’s a lot of damage everywhere…and blood…”
You stopped watching the sphere glow, whisps moving around it like fog. It was like it was calling to you, echos in  the back of you mind, “There’s this strange thing in his office…a glowing sphere…I’ve never seen it before.”
You reached out towards it, “Y/N, whatever you don’-”
A hot blinding flash flung you back across the room. You landed roughly on your knees gasping as the air was knocked from you. You lifted your head when you heard someone speak, “Lilly, I'd like you to gather everyone in the foyer for a meeting, please.”
“Hades…” You stared at him relieved until you heard a low voice in response to him.
“…hello, boy…” You watched Hades go rigid not turning around, “Come now…say hello to your father.”
Hades’ hand extended calling for this bident, but as quickly as he turned to throw it, Cronus was on top of him slamming him against the desk sending everything into the air. Hades cried out as his father pressed him in the chest with the pommel of a large scythe, the sheer force cracking the desk in two, “Still pathetic…I thought you were supposed to be a king!”
“Hades!” You cried getting up to your feet rushing forward to push Cronus away only to stumble through his image. You fell to your knees again shuddering before looking back at them as Cronus lifted Hades up by the shirt. You saw so much fear in Hades eyes. He was right back in that cell so many centuries ago.
You cried out in vein as he attempted to fight Cronus. His father simply parried his bident away sending it clattering across the room, “You think a toy like that can kill me!”
“Stop...please, please stop…” You sobbed as he rained a beating down on Hades that explained the state of the room.
Cronus stopped chest heaving up and down as he stood over Hades’ body as a noise seemed to catch his attention. As the titan moved away you rushed over to look at Hades. He was alive but you weren’t sure if he could move, “Hades…move…you have to move…”
“Huh…” Your eyes flicked over to Cronus near the broken desk Hades’ phone in his hand, “You’ve missed you lover’s messages…shall I reply to her for you?”
You felt sick. You had thought something was wrong after you were sent away. The texts you received we so detached and lacked the formality Hades would use.
“Fuck you…” You looked back to Hades pushing his shaking form off the ground. Blood streamed down his face as he glared at him, those once blue eyes purple and afraid.
“Oh, maybe there is something left in there worth saving.” Cronus smirked as he pocketed the phone. You screamed for Hades to run as his father strode forward in no great hurry. Hades turned running out into the hall slamming into the smearing blood across it as he pushed himself to get away, “Boy…do not make this harder…”
You kept with Hades wishing there was anything you could do for him. He stumbled out into the living room falling to his knees gasping for air as he clutched his side clearly wounded, “You have to move, Hades…get up. Get up!”
He wasn’t fast enough. Cronus wrapped his large fingers into his hair yanking him forward until he slammed his back into the wall placing the blade of the scythe against his throat, “I do enjoy a chase, and it has been a while…”
“But no matter what you do, son…” Cronus leaned in as Hades let out a sad child like whimper, “I will break you, and I will turn you into the tool I need to destroy Olympus and get my power back.”
“Stop!” You cried out as Cronus stepped back with such speed the scythe pulled back. That’s when you saw it…his eyes shift over to you.
“Shall I show you the rest? There is quite a bit more…” His question hung in the air as ice filled your veins, “Or would you rather leave it to your imagination?”
Your vision blurred the more you stood there, “Just…stop…please leave him…”
“I imagine you’re begging me to stop right now…” He stepped way from Hades and you watched his form dissolve into light, “the beauty of manipulating time is you get to replay everything until you get exactly what you want out of it…”
You blinked sinking to your knees, “…what have you done to him?”
“Mm…” He tilted his head as he leaned on the sycthe, “taken back what’s mine…you do understand I’m not here, right? I’m not quite aware of how quickly mortals catch on to things. Your kind didn’t exist until late in the war. You seem bright though, but damn…those others in that cesspit of an institution you call a school…I will have to fix that…”
You were shaking so much as he went on, “I will cut right to it…Aïdōneús is mine, and I intend to shape him into what he was meant to be.”
He stepped forward kneeling down looking you in the eyes, “But I imagine your strange infatuation won’t stop you at all…so please, come to Tartarus, Y/N. I’d be happy to talk to you there about this whole situation.”
His form faded away the same way Hades’ had leaving you with the image of his sick grin. You leaned forward wrapping your arms around yourself until your forehead pressed against the floor. You let out sob shaking until it was hard to breath, until you screamed.
You sat there letting silence fall over you. You didn’t know how long you just stayed there in the destruction of the house until you tensed feeling a warm hand press against your shoulder. Raising your head slowly you saw a worn and tired Charon, “My lady…there are people at the door…should I allow them in?”
You let out a stifled sob as you nodded. He pulled you into his arms as you began to cry again and only passed you off to Hera and Persephone when everyone arrived.
Everything buzzed around you. Directions where being handed out, people moved through the house. Faces came into view checking on you, then disappeared when Hera said something to them. Finally, when everything was declared safe you were moved to your room and laid in bed.
The last thing you remember before blacking out was hearing a whisper in your ear, “Looking forward to talking again…”

“What?” Hades frowned as you took his hand pushing through the crowd, “Y/N…”
“He needs help…” You pushed through to the balcony stepping out to see Apollo frozen in place, “Oh my god…Hades…”
Hades frowned seeing his nephew pale and rigid, “Apollo…can you hear me?”
“Y..es…” He gritted his teeth looking to you both.
“Good…Y/N, get Zeus and Demeter…” Hades glanced back at you, “Please.”
“Okay…” He watched you turn away running back inside before looking back to Apollo.
Hades sighed looking his nephew over, “I’m not a medicine man…are you breathing okay?”
“…n..no.” Apollo managed to get out, “Me…di…”
“Media…yes I gathered from what just happened inside that she’s behind it.” Hades frowned looking close to Apollo’s face seeing a small glowing mark on his cheek, “Did she touch you?”
“Hades, what’s going on?” Zeus approached with his sister Demeter as Hades raised his hand pointing to the mark, “What is it?”
“Magic…I thought poison at first…” He looked at Demeter before turning back to the crowd, “I was wrong. Hecate!”
Murmurs began rippling through the crowd as everyone watched. Hades turned to you quickly, “Did Media touch you?”
“What?” You looked up to him confused.
“Did she touch you?” Panic rose inside of him as Hecate came running forward.
“Yes…Hades…” You frowned wrapping your arms around yourself, “what’s going on?”
He took your arm firmly before pulling you away from the crowd, “Where?”
He insisted before you could ask any more questions, “S-she put her chin on shoulder and wrapped her arms around me…Hades…you’re scaring me.”
“I’m sorry but I need to look…” He glanced behind himself making sure they were out of view, “I can get Persephone…”
“No…I-it’s okay…” You nodded turning away from him before pulling up the dress over your head.
“I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t important…” He said quietly glancing back to make sure your decency could be maintained.
You held the dress in front of you looking back at him, “I know.”
He stepped closer before he put his hands on your arms gently moving them over your skin looking for anything wrong or out of place. His fingers burned as they danced gently over each inch of you making sure Media had done nothing, “I need you to turn around…”
Your face was so red when you turned to face him. It was beautiful and it took everything to not kiss you again and take you home as he began his inspection again. You shivered as his fingers traced over your hips and stomach. He stood up slowly looking down into your eyes.
“Am…am I good?” You stared up into his eyes. Hades was glad Zeus was no where nearby to hear you say those words, knowing full well there would be some sarcastic sassy remark about your nakedness. Despite that he found himself thinking you were so much more then good…you were perfect to him.
“Yes…you’re good.” He whispered keeping his hands on your arms for a moment longer before taking a step back, “Get dressed…”
“What’s wrong with Apollo?” You asked as he turned away to give you a little privacy.
“I think he was hexed.” He told you quietly as he thought about the mark, “A paralysis rune…old magic, but I can’t be sure. Hecate will know.”
He looked to you when you touched his arm. He smiled briefly before taking your hand kissing it gently. If only they could go back to that moment a short while ago in the middle of the crowd.  He could still feel your lips on his and he was hungry for more. His heart yearned to hear you say those words again.
You both stepped back over to the group seeing Apollo laying on the ground hand to his head as Hecate leaned over him with her hands hovering over his chest, “You’re very lucky…a little while longer and you wouldn’t be with us.”
“But he will be alright…” Zeus leaned over the dark-haired woman as any overbearing parent would, “I don’t want to bring Artemis over now if he’s not.”
Hecate smiled as she touched Apollo’s head, “With a little rest he’ll be fine.”
“What about Y/N?” Apollo let his hand drop looking up to you, “Are you alright?”
You smiled and nodded as Hades spoke, “She appears to be, but I’d like Hecate to take a look still.”
“Of course, I wish we had met under better circumstances.” Hecate told you as she stood up walking towards you. You gasped looking into her eyes when she stopped, it was like looking into a sea of stars. She laughed, “It can be a little startling, I got my mother’s eyes. Just stay still for a moment.”
She hovered her hands over you doing a small circle. You glanced around seeing everyone holding their breath until she spoke again, “She’s fine.”
Apollo sighed, “Thank goodness.”
“Yes, the spell would have surely killed a mortal quickly.” Hecate told everyone, “Do we know who cast such a spell?”
Zeus sighed crossing his arms over his chest, “Media…”
“Zeus, something must be done…” Hades reached down taking your hand, “It’s clear she is targeting us.”
“She will be dealt with, but we can’t say…” Zeus started to speak.
“Hecate…” Everyone looked to you as you interrupted Zeus, “is there a spell that can make someone enraged and attack you? Something that is completely against who they are?”
Hades stared at you as Hecate tilted her head, “There can be a spell for really anything, but yes, why do you ask?”
You looked up to Hades thinking back to Scott and the whole incident at the school, “It makes sense…Scott never acted that way before. He was a good guy and I know it doesn’t excuse anything, but even you said he didn’t remember anything…isn’t that like a spell requirement when controlling someone? Especially mortals?”
“To what instance are you referring?” Hecate got your attention again.
“Now is not the time.” Zeus interrupted as he helped Apollo up to his feet, “We will have a council tomorrow, I’ll send word and we can discuss everything then. Allow everyone to enjoy themselves tonight and worry later.”
Hades sighed watching everyone turn away and waited until they were gone, “Are you alright?”
“Well…I think so.” You smiled at him taking a step closer looking down at his hand intertwined with yours, “I think better then alright.”
Hades smiled at you, “What changed from an hour ago?”
“I don’t know…nothing really, I just…” You looked down trying to think of a reason, “I don’t think anything did. Apollo just helped me decide that it was time to let go and realize that everything I have in front of me is more important then what was not. That it’s too easy to try and hold on to things you shouldn’t.”
“Another reason for me to thank him later.” He slid his arm around your waist, “Let’s go home.”
“Are we allowed?” You quirked an eyebrow.
Pulling you close he spoke in a deep hushed voice, “I’m not giving them or you a choice.”
Your eyes shut as his lips found yours. Lost sensations made their way back to him as he stepped backward fading away into their home. Nerves rushed into both your bellies as his hands moved up your arms.
He parted from you speaking softly as you caught your breath, “Y/N…I made a promise to you…and I will hold to it…but I need you to say something for me to stop…”
Your eyes widened looking at is strong handsome features, “…Hades…”
His heart sunk a little, but he understood. It was a big step. He wanted it to be right and for you to enjoy it as much as he did.
But then you took his hand in yours and slowly stepped away from him tugging him to come with you. He tilted his head a little when he saw you kick off your shoes, “Y/N?”
You pulled him close again still taking small steps down the hallway away from the foyer. You leaned up dancing on your toes as you whispered just below his ear on his neck, “I love you, Hades…and you wouldn’t be doing anything I didn’t want.”
He stopped looking down at you as your face flushed. Tingling sensation began flooding over his skin as he became excited once more. Wasting no more time he claimed your mouth again grasping your face in his hands.
It took several tries for them to make it to the bedroom. Hades eventually had the good sense to scoop you up into his arms, the rest was a tangled mess.
A glorious tangled mess, he thought as he watched you sleeping next to him. His eyes raked over your frame remembering details from the night before. The way your body arched against his when things were going just right. Or how your fingers dug into the sheets…and how you bit your lips together when you moaned…
He cleared his throat before drawing the covers up over you more before getting up out of bed. Slipping into some comfortable clothes and a robe he made his way to the kitchen for some coffee. He stopped as he passed the living room seeing Cerberus stand up on the couch looking at him
“What?” Hades smiled a little stepping over scratching under his chin, “I thought you would be happy…”
Cerberus huffed before sauntering off the couch heading down the hall. Hades made a face watching him for a moment before moving on. Upon entering the kitchen, he saw a note on the counter clearly from Zeus from the calligraphy. Hades sighed opening it as he moved to the coffee pot.
Keep your fruit bowl this time. Hope this doesn’t ruin your good mood too much, but your presence is required this afternoon. Family meeting. Bring your wife.
He stared at it a long time before setting it down. Shouldn’t be too big of a problem. It was high time he told you everything that was going on. You deserved to know that Cronus was attempting to escape Tartarus and that he will be hellbent on going after his family.
He sighed again feeling the sense of security slip away for a moment. He shook it off pouring two cups and walked back to his room where he saw Cerberus curled up at the end of the bed, “Ah…I see now…”
He set the cups down before crawling back into bed. As he got comfortable, he saw you turn toward him eyes peeking open, “You left…”
He smiled a little sinking down into the bed to face you, “I did, but I returned with coffee.”
“Coffee? I thought we were staying in bed…” You moved closer to him taking him off guard when you wrapped your arms around him.
“I’m afraid not…” He rested his chin on your head, “As much as I would love it…and how much we deserve it…we’ve been summoned to a family meeting.”
That caught your interest, “Is everything okay?”
He brushed your hair from your face staring into your eyes before he shook his head, “No…no I’m afraid not.”
Media gasped for air as she clawed at the hand holding her by the throat, “P..Please…”
“Why should I give you another chance when you can’t follow simple instructions.” A deep voice shook her to the core, “How hard is it to kill one mortal!? You’ve failed twice…”
“H..hades…” She hissed out trying to get air.
The man let her fall to floor coughing, “What about him?”
She stared up at the man in the dark abandoned room, “He protects her…he never lets her be alone…and their bond…”
The man knelt lifting her chin roughly in his grasp, “All I’m hearing is excuses. Media, you were supposed to be bright…and helpful in this new world and so far…you’re not.”
“No…No, please, my lord…” She pleaded eyes getting wide, “Please I can do better. The spell worked, but only the one time…I wasted it on Apollo…I succeeded…”
“Hm…I don’t think so, but I can’t just get rid of you…your following is too strong, as fickle as it is…” He let go standing up stepping away from her, “No…we’ll have to put you someplace safe. Afterall, you went after one of Zeus’ children…I’m sure it won’t stand. They’ll be looking for you.”
“W…where?” She barely whispered out, “Lord…Cronus…Where are you going to send me?”
Cronus turned around smirking making his handsome features seem evil, “Don’t you worry…I’ve got the perfect place for you.”

Hades smirked keeping his hands over your eyes, “Just a few more steps…”
“Hades!” You held onto his wrists as he pushed you forward, “I’ve been to Olympus, what makes this time so special?”
He spun you around pressing his forehead against yours, as his eyes locked with your surprised look, “You have been to the ballroom, a room, and Apollo’s garden…but you have never seen Olympus my love.”
You blushed when he used the term of endearment, “Okay…so…”
“So…” He stepped aside watching you face change instantly to wonder as he revealed the city of Olympus, “we have time to explore today.”
The city line rested before you on the golden streets. The buildings reflected the sea cascading iridescent colors across each one. People… gods… creatures of all kinds roamed the streets in the distance.
You took a few steps forward before putting your hands to your mouth, “Hades…”
“Yes?” He stepped back to you taking one of your hands as you lowered them.
“Is this a dream?” His eyes widened shocked as you went on, “This is all so perfect…it has to be a dream.”
“It is perfect…” He smiled before leaning in kissing you until you were breathless, “but it’s not a dream.”
He wrapped your arm around his and began pulling your dazed form along. He couldn’t disagree with you. It was perfect, and he was waiting for the other shoe to drop. It always dropped.
He watched as you marveled at everything, commenting that it reminded you of their trip to the Bay of Kotor. It had been a long time since he walked the streets of Olympus and he had to agree with you. The structure of the buildings were reminiscent of theirs.
You walked up to a stall ran by satyr. He was selling wreaths and crowns from his garden, “Well this is a rare sight…a human in Olympus.”
Hades hung back wanting the satyr to remained relaxed with you as you smiled up at him, “I suppose it is, isn’t it? Did you make all of these?”
“I did, as did my daughter.” He leaned down looking into your eyes, “You are very kind.”
“Oh? Why would you say that?” Your eyes widened hearing such a declaration.
The satyr smiled and waved a hand over his wares, “Pick one?”
“I couldn’t…I don’t have any money.” You shook your head smiling.
“Nonsense, for the Queen of the Underworld, it is a gift.” He smiled as you blushed, “So please pick one.”
Hades’ interest peaked hearing that the satyr knew who you were. His attention moved back to you as you began to look over each wreath and crown until you landed on a flower crown with little blue and yellow flowers. The satyr smiled as he lifted it up looking at it with a big smile as if he knew something no one else did.
“In my family, we have a gift.” The satyr told you as he moved the crown around in his hands inspecting it, “We can look at a person and see their aura, and the more we interact with them the more we see their true nature, which may take us to some hints of the future.”
Your eyes were alit with fascination, “Really? And you just saw that I was kind because of my aura?”
“Yes, but…” He leaned forward placing the crown on your head, “I sense that it brings you trouble from time to time. Make sure you use all your tools to guard yourself.”
“Tools?” You stared up at him, “What tools?”
“Your eyes, your ears, your hands,” The satyr smiled as he listed everything off while his hands began working on something, “above all your mind. Your heart can decide many things for you, and it should, but it can make you sacrifice a great deal if you’re not careful.”
“That…is…” You swallowed looking down to your hands, “exactly like me.”
“Don’t stress, it’s just an observation.” He told you as he reached for your hand placing what looked like a boutonniere of flowers matching your crown into your hand, “No matter what, be true to yourself, your majesty, and everything will be fine.”
Hades watched as you thanked him again before turning and walking back to him. Your face was flushed as you stopped before him, “Everything alright?”
“Just…the your majesty thing…” You rattled off as you put the boutonniere on his jacket, “I am not royalty…not really…”
He took a deep breath holding it before letting it out slowly, “You know my answer to that…but I feel like it might be something else that is bothering you. Did the satyr upset you?”
“No! Oh no!” You shook your head quickly looking up to his face smiling, “He was very kind and surprisingly insightful…sometimes it’s just hard to look into a mirror.”
Hades could relate to that he thought as he looked at the flowers in the crown. They were tight a moment ago, but now they bloomed. He glanced up at the satyr who simply smiled in acknowledgement.
“I hate to pull you away from here, but it’s time for the meeting.” Hades told you taking your hand in his, “Are you ready?”
“Too be apart of a council meeting full of gods who are angry and upset that balance is being shifted, entirely not!” You squeezed his hand, “I don’t know what use I’m going to be…I’m mostly the problem.”
“You are not the problem.” He spoked quickly as you both walked, “We should have never locked him away…”
You stopped looking at him as he trailed, “Hades…he…”
“We need to go.” He didn’t want to talk about him, and he knew you were going ask questions or reassure him of their decision.
It was a quick journey the castle with Hades around. Guards simply opened every door immediately at the sight of him. When they reached the council chamber opened the door watching you nervously step in before him. Everyone was standing around a large table talking and drinking. He shut the door getting several people’s attention.
“Y/N!” Hades looked over with you as Persephone ran up to you throwing her arms around her, “It’s been too long! I had hoped to see at the Spring festival, but I…understand.”
As you blushed when she made eyes at both of you, Hades turned his face away clearing his throat as you spoke, “I’m sorry Percy, I wanted to see you too. Things...got out of hand…”
“I don’t blame you in the least. I’m very proud of you though for standing up to that witch.” Percy beamed looping her arm with yours, “Your crown is beautiful…”
Hades excused himself leaving you securely in Percy’s capable hands. He walked over to Zeus who was finishing up a heated discussion with Hera, “Brother, everything alright?”
“Hades, good, I’m glad you’re here.” Zeus pulled him out to the balcony worry filling his face.
“Zeus, what is it?” He watched his brother take in a deep breath looking out over the city, “Zeus…”
“I can’t reach Athena…or Ares…” He leaned forward gripping the railing, “and they were not in attendance last night…”
Hades felt his chest tighten, “Ares has always been defiant…It would be like him to not respond and try to push you by not attending the celebration.”
“And Athena…” Zeus looked at him worry filling his eyes, “She is the wisest of us…strategic and would not miss her sister’s celebration. This is him…this is Cronus…taking the strongest of my children first…”
Hades frowned stepping to him, “What do you mean?”
“I went to Tartarus without your permission…” Zeus spoke after a moment of silence with tears in his eyes, “He’s not there. I wanted to believe that I could make this all disappear…I was a fool.”
Hades turned around balling his fist up as he shut his eyes tightly. No one was to go to Tartarus without good reason or without his expressed permission.
Opening his eyes he saw Poseidon looking at them a rage building behind his green eyes, “Gentlemen…”
“Poseidon…” Zeus didn’t get a chance to explain as he was pushed over the railing. Hades yelled grabbing hold of Zeus with one hand and pushing against Poseidon with the other.
“When did you go?” Poseidon glared at him pushing him further over the side gripping his shirt tightly, “When!?”
“Stop!” Hades shouted at him.
“How long has he been out polluting the world with his vileness!?” Poseidon boomed.
Zeus stared into his brother’s eyes swallowing the down the knot in his throat, “The last council…”
Hades felt as if he was punched in the gut, “The one you specifically told me not to got to Tartarus alone…sweet Gaia, Zeus…that was almost two months ago.”
“And from what I could tell…he’s been out longer. The guards we’re dead…but everyone else was secure. I gave life to our soldiers again…” Zeus stared into Poseidon’s eyes still, “Push me over if you must…I’d certainly welcome the pain that comes with the fall.”
“And you’d deserve every ounce of it you little prick!” Poseidon pushed him further as Hades called for him to halt again.
“Whoa whoa whoa!” They all froze looking over to you walking with your hands held out and eyes wide, “Stop stooping to a mortal’s standards. You’re all better than that…”
They all stared still confused as you spoke softly as you stepped closer, “You know, pretty boy being held over the ledge while other pretty boy who’s more athletic holds him over the ledge because pretty boy did something stupid. All the while a very handsome attractive man who is the more logical of the three attempts to get both parties to stop and see reason…it’s usually over a girl, but I’m thinking the stakes are higher because you’re gods…”
They all stared for a moment longer before bursting into a fit of laughter. Poseidon pulled Zeus back over the balcony before looking at Hades, “You have certainly been blessed by fate when they decided to have her line tie to yours.”
“I’m not going to argue with you.” Hades nodded at his brother before looking to you making you smile at him.
“Why was he the only man in the scenario?” Zeus pointed at Hades as he looked at you.
“Because he’s the oldest and it’s a fact that he’s handsome and you’re pretty…” You smirked a little putting your hands behind your back.
“Well, I for one am fine being the athletic pretty boy.” Poseidon shrugged a little.
Hades watched as his brothers began to bicker as if a moment ago had never happened. He looked across to you seeing you smile at them, but there was concern in your eyes. He pushed through the pair making them fall silent, “What’s wrong?”
“Its nothing really…” You shook your head a little looking away from him.
“No, no…” Zeus stepped over a crease forming on his forehead, “What’s wrong with my favorite sister-in-law?”
“Yeah, sis, what’s up?” Poseidon also stepped in looking down to you.
You stared at all three of them tearing up a little, “It…it was my fault, wasn’t it? When I got hurt…and we came to Olympus… that’s why Cronus broke out…that’s why you’re fighting?”
Hades had wondered how long it would take for you to work out the prophecy. He was about to console when Zeus stepped in, “No, dear, that falls to me. Come, let’s start the meeting and I will explain to everyone why that is…”
Zeus explained everything. The real prophecy, the fact that he changed it, and his deliberate disobedience by entering Tartarus. The original six were a mix of emotions ranging from fear to anger. Hades understood, when he found out he was angry that Zeus chose to keep him in the dark and afraid that the man who tortured him for years was out. He would have reconsidered so many things had he known.
For the rest in the room, they had only heard stories of Cronus’ cruelty. He wasn’t as real to them. It was Artemis who spoke up first. Her eyes were focused as a hunter’s should be, “Do we have any idea what to expect? What we should be prepared for?”
Zeus swallowed looking at everyone, “The worse…expect the worse and prepare for it…I think everyone should move here. Limit your time on Earth.”
“And what about her?” Hephaestus pointed toward you making you perk up, “Isn’t she the reason the chains are broken? She could be the key to solving everything. Maybe we just give her to Cronus.”
“Out the question.” Hades glared across the room at him.
“Is it? Olympus and it’s inhabitants are in danger and every time you brought her here you brought Cronus’ return closer until it happened.” Hephaestus retorted staring at Hades with intensity, “I know you care for this mortal but she-”
“She is my wife,” Hades stopped him, “and if you think…”
“Hades…” You stopped him by putting your hand on his arm. He looked down at you leaving his sentence unfinished. You were giving him a small smile before you looked at everyone else, “I don’t know if I’m allowed or have the right to speak at this…”
“Of course you do.” Zeus nodded waving for you to continue.
You looked back to Hades for a moment before looking at every at the table, “I can’t claim to understand what’s all going on. You all have more experience and abilities that I can only dream of.”
“But I am also afraid of Cronus…” You frowned seeing people flinch at his name, “My Papa and Gigi would tell us all the story of the Titanomachy…The creation of the world…the Titans…their war, to your war…I’m not just a random mortal. I came looking for Hades…I believe in all of you, I always have.”
There was a surge from your belief that rippled through each of them in the crowded room as you went on, “I would understand if you didn’t want me here. I’m a liability having no powers, no gifts. However, I don’t want you all to do this alone…there has to be something for me to do. Whatever it is I will do it. I’m not just…a mortal anymore…I’m an ally.”
“And speaks like a queen.” Poseidon raised his glass toward you, “I will vouch for her, and anyone who speaks against her speaks against me.”
“I second that.” Apollo raised his glass winking toward you.
Hades watched as several others nodded agreeing. Others were still hesitant and still not convinced. His attention was pulled back to Zeus leaning on the table looking at everyone, “We need everyone together on this. Right now, our focus needs to be on finding Media…Gy…”
Everyone looked at the young god hiding amongst the rest of them. He shifted his glasses nervously, “Yes?”
“You are the best at what you do…” Zeus looked at him seriously, “and the closest to our missing friend…I think it’s time you start letting us know what you know…”

Hades stared out the back windows at the river. How he envied the water and how it only had one purpose, to move forward. The river didn’t have emotions to deal with or anyone to protect. The river didn’t have a loved one angry with them for trying to do what was best for them.
“You did the right thing.” Hera put a hand on his arm pulling him from his thoughts, “She’ll be home before you know it.”
“It still doesn’t feel right…” He glanced at her crossing his arms over his chest, “She was so angry, Hera.”
Hera smiled trying to be reassuring, “Y/N, will forgive you. She knows that you’re doing all this to keep her and her family safe.”
Hades took in a deep breath shaking his head, “You know what she said when I told her that?”
“No, what?” She stared at him with curiosity.
“You’re my family, all of you.” Hades let his arms drop defeated, “It’s strange, I feel like a part of me is missing. We’ve rarely been apart since she arrived.”
Hera looked over at Zeus discussing something with Apollo, “I know what you mean.”
Hades looked at her again before looking at his brother, “After everything he’s done, you really forgave him, truly?”
“I did.” She smiled at Hades taking in a deep breath, “It wasn’t easy, and it certainly didn’t happen overnight, it didn’t even happen for several years. He did change, Hades and he tries so much harder…he is a good father and a wonderful husband, and I love him very much.”
“You always have. You always knew you two were meant for one another.” Hades pulled her into a hug kissing her forehead, “If you can forgive him, then there’s hope for me.”
“Hades…” He let Hera go turning to Zeus. His brother looked worn, something he wasn’t used to seeing, “I have Apollo meeting up with Hermes. They’re going back to the school, maybe there’s something he left that will indicate where he went.”
“Doubtful…” Hades sighed looking at Zeus as he took Hera’s hand in his. His heart ached as he longed for a simple touch from you. Your support had gotten him through so much this past year, “He’s been biding his time for this. Y/N said it herself, he wants me.”
“But why?” Hera shook her head confused, “He took all of us and tortured us. He lost, what good will it be to go after just you again?”
“Because I’m the first son…his failed prodigy.” Hades swallowed thinking back to earlier with you. He’d been so worried as he paced in the kitchen until you came in through the garage entrance.
“Y/N…” He pulled you into a hug after you took you helmet off. He pulled away looking at your tear stained face, “Are you alright? Did he hurt you?”
“I’m okay…he didn’t hurt me…he just talked to me.” You told him stepping into his chest again so he would hug you again, “I didn’t think he’d look so normal…”
Hades frowned shutting his eyes as he held your close allowing you a brief moment of solace, “I know…I don’t want to push you but…I need to ask you a few things.”
“Right…of course…” You pulled away as you heard barking down the hall worry filling your soft eyes, “Is everything okay here?”
He sighed nodding a little, “Yes…Poseidon and Apollo are here…”
“Are they okay?” Your eyes got wide.
“Yes, we were searching for Media and the others.” He told you quietly.
“Others…Cronus, h-he said something about keeping a few others…” He watched as you began to dissolve on him, “Who is it?”
“…Athena and Ares…” He spoke softly trying to keep you calm as he guided you to the dining room to sit, “They are capable and can survive this, and we will find them.”
You sat as he knelt in front of you keeping your hands in his. Despite everything you seemed to be taking everything as well as one could. He didn’t think he’d be able to if he was in your position.
“Y/N, I need you to tell me everything that happened, can you do that?” Hades squeezed your hands reassuringly.
You sniffed as a tear fell down your cheek striking his hand. It burned rolling down his skin as you began telling him everything. It did seem like Cronus was verifying until he had no doubt that you were his companion.
“It was like he was fact checking me…making sure I was who he really thought I was.” You looked at him frowning, “He made me feel so small.”
“He has that effect on people.” He brought your hands to his lips kissing them, “You won’t have to worry about him anymore.”
“Y-you found him?” Your eyes followed him as he stood up.
“No…but you’re going to go home until this is over.” He turned away from you preparing himself for what you had to say.
“…but I am home.” God…just a simple phrase broke his heart. He’d fought so hard to get you to that point. To accept that this place was safe, and comfortable, and where you could be when the world was ending. Where you could be with him.
But, he needed to send you away. To ensure nothing would happen to you or your family. You didn’t deserve this.
“And one day I hope you can return.” He could hear you stand up behind him.
“Hades…please don’t…” The pain in your voice was enough to make him reconsider, “Please don’t send me away…”
And this place just made everything you were feeling that much more. Agony rippled through him, “You’ll be safer with your family…”
You moved in front of him grabbing into his arms tears already falling once more, “You’re my family, all of you…please Hades, don’t…I need to be next to you through this…”
He wanted nothing more than to keep you by his side. He swallowed taking your hands away from him, “You will be safer…away from me…Cronus will only use you against me.”
“Don’t you see this is exactly what he wants!” You shook your head staring into his eyes, “He wants you to be alone, he wants you to feel isolated, please Hades don’t do this! Please…”
He did it anyway, sending you with Hermes to drop you off and set up a protection spell over your family’s homes. He knew he wouldn’t be able to let you go if he did it himself.
“Hades?” Zeus got his attention, “Where were you just now?”
Hades looked at him and Hera giving them a small sad smile, “With my heart…”
Hera quickly embraced him, “We will make fast work of this and bring everyone home.”
Charon popped in suddenly, “Forgive the intrusion, your majesties…I’ve just received word from Olympus. Athena is there.”
“What?” Zeus’ eyes widened as he stepped over to the gatekeeper, “Did they say if she was okay?”
“The message said she is hurt but managing and requesting an audience with her father.” Charon told him quickly.
“Go, both of you.” Hades told them as he handed Hera back to Zeus, “I won’t be long after.”
Zeus stepped over to him offer his arm to him, “Brother, we will get this bastard and reunite you with Y/N. I won’t let him live this time.”
Hades clasped his brother’s arm firmly giving him a nod, “Go to your daughter. I’m just closing up shop here.”
Zeus nodded letting go, “Don’t take long…none of this feels right.”
Hades had to agree with his brother as he watched them leave. After assuring him he’d be right there a few more time, they left leaving him alone to his thoughts. A dangerous scenario if there ever was one.
He wandered the halls from room to room seeing you everywhere. Little things that he hoped to bring you back to soon. You’d only been gone a few hours, yet it’s felt like eternity. You filled a hole inside of him that he'd grown so numb to until you began to heal it.
He went to each room shutting the doors. He’d already sent Cerberus back to his post in the Underworld. All that was left was the Shades and Charon.
He walked into his office to grab his work. Not even Cronus could stop the Underworld from working. Stepping over to his desk, his phone went off. He opened the text smiling a little despite the pain he felt reading it. You weren’t made enough to not text, it was a good sign.
At mom’s, Hermes just left…please be safe…
He took a moment to answer you. It was the least he could do.
I will, I promise this will be over soon. I love you.
He sniffed setting down the phone to look at everything he needed to bring. He heard a shuffling noise behind him assuming it was your favorite wandering soul, “Lilly, I'd like you to gather everyone in the foyer for a meeting, please.”
Hades felt his blood run cold at the response, as his phone buzzed on his desk going unattended.
You sat on the couch looking out the window rubbing your chest. It had been a week since you’d been forced to leave, and you were bitter. No matter what you did you couldn’t shake this ache in your heart.
He didn’t even have the decency to drop you off…now he was rarely texting you and when he did it was short. Merely hello…goodbye…good…ok…soon… It didn’t matter that Hades was a god, he was a typical man.
You let out a heavy sigh again making your mother speak up, “He’ll be home soon…”
“I know…I’m just worried. He said he had a lot of work and it might take longer.” You rambled off the story you created for her, “Just wish I could have gone with him.”
“Y/N…” You blinked looking over to her, she rarely ever used your name anymore, “I have never seen a man look at anyone like how Nick looks at you…not since your father…”
You got up walking over to where she sat, in your father’s chair, “Oh ma…there will never be a love as bright as you and dad’s.”
When you hugged her, she patted your arm, “Don’t worry…you and Nick will be fine. Distance always helps a relationship. My heart ached when your father went to a Greece, but he always returned.”
You smiled at her, “I know…it’s just hard. I feel like half of me is missing and I can tell he stressed out. I feel it right here.”
You pressed on your chest as this dull ache surged for a moment. Your mother put her hand over yours before smiling, “It’s probably heartburn, I’ll make you lunch!”
You let out a soft laugh as she got up. Of course, everything could be solved with food. You stretched as you walked back to the couch.
You were just about to sit down when the door burst open, “Y/N!”
You stood there startled as Zeus looked over to you holding on the doorknob, “Wh-what are you doing!?”
“We need you. You have to come.” He raced over to you plant his hands firmly in your arms, “Hades needs you.”

I got really inspired, soooo yay double update!

Your eyes snapped open for the hundredth time that night. You couldn’t find any rest since Hades told you of the prophecy. Your mind raced over how many instances you could have triggered all of this…how if you had never been here maybe nothing would have happened.
You sighed throwing the covers off yourself frustrated. Stepping onto the cold floor you weighed your options feeling like you’d been here before. You walked the halls down to Hades room not bothering to knock as you walked in.
You crept in slowly to his bed wrapping your arms around him making him wake up slowly, “Y/N?”
“Hm…go back to sleep.” You whispered to him as he rolled over securing you into his arms.
“Everything okay?” He blinked a few times squaring himself off to you to better see your face.
You leaned into his hand as he brushed your hair out of your face, “Restless…”
“Still?” He frowned a little caressing your face with his thumb, “No one is blaming anyone at this point…there’s no meaning to it, and we’re going to find Media soon.”
“…yeah…” You sighed staring into his blue eyes. How did you end up here? The story was simple, but out of all the believers in the world desperate for something…how was it you that ended up here in the arms of Hades?”
“What is it?”  He stared at you obviously trying to figure out what was on your mind.
You simply smiled at him tightening your arm around him pressing your body against his, “I love you.”
“Yeah?” He quirked an eyebrow at you, “Why?”
“Why?” Yours shot up in surprise, “I…I believe it’s because you’re handsome…and loyal…and smart…and care so much about your family and…do I need to keep going?”
“Mm…no…” He leaned forward planting a kiss on your lips, “You sure know how to make god blush.”
You laughed a little, “I doubt it anything I say could really make you blush.”
“On the contrary…a beautiful woman climbs into my bed in the middle of the night and tells me she loves me.” He rested his forehead against yours, “I’d say that’s surprising and blush worthy.”
You sighed contently shutting your eyes, feeling completely secure in his embrace. You listened to him take breaths in and out in a soothing rhythm. You wished you could just stop time and stay right here.
“You know you can start in here.” Hades murmured as he began to drift off.
“Start?” You breathed against his neck.
He chuckled a little, “Yes…if it helps you get some sleep, you can always come to bed with me to begin with.”
“If we weren’t already living together, that would sound an awful like you asking me to move in.” You hunkered down next to him.
“Maybe you should…” You looked up to him cracking his eyes open, “move into my room…”
“You serious?” You stared at him amazed that you could be having such an easy ordinary conversation with him. With everything going on, it was almost surreal.
“Why not?” He smiled at you his eyes lighting up as he did, “We are technically married…”
You felt your face get red instantly. You’d just gotten to the boyfriend stage, but everyone kept saying wife. You had thought about it…you were okay with it…you thought.
“Hey…if you don’t want to, it’s not a big deal.” He spoke softly when you fell silent on him.
“No…I mean…” You shut your eyes sighing, “I would not mind…in fact…I like the idea.”
“You do?” You nodded slowly before he went on, “But…”
“No but…” You shook your head as he stared at you, “What?”
“I’ve been around you long enough now to know that something is bothering you.” He propped himself up on his elbow letting his other hand caress your arm, “I also know you keep a lot to yourself because you don’t want to stress me out and I’ve told you numerous times that nothing you say will change anything.”
You pouted a little, “There isn’t anything and if there is I will let you know…but you need rest, especially with you having to go out and help search everyday…we should just go back to sleep.”
“Y/N…please talk to me.” God the look he was giving you would made you crazy. So much concern and love for you just oozing out of his eyes. It was wonderful.
“I promise I will if there is anything.” You smiled at him, “You know what I want right now though?”
“What?” He smiled as you inched closer to him.
“I think you already know the answer.” He chuckled as wrapped you up pulling you into a kiss.
Later you sat alone in the house absentmindedly throwing the ball for Cerberus out of the living room as you surfed the internet. Not going to school had left you free to figure out what to do…which meant nothing…
You surfed social networks, looked at videos, browsed stores…nothing really kept your interest long. You often found yourself looking out the large back window to the river. Hades had told you it was the Styx and what you were seeing was just an illusion.
“It’s important to see it. Any signs of trouble for the Underworld usually starts there.” He told you as he looked down at a book on his desk.
“Does trouble happen?” You looked back at him sitting at his desk. The window lined the entire back of the house so he could see it no matter what.
“Occasionally.” He wrote something down in the book before setting it aside and picking up a folder, “When a tragedy happens…the banks overflow and well its how shades are created. They need a new purpose, since their life ended before it was supposed to…so it’s a lot of work afterwards.”
“…has it happened recently?” He glanced up at you when you stepped up next to him.
“Um…yes.” He nodded glancing at the stack of folders on the corner of the desk, “Unfortunately.”
“Well, maybe I can help?” You tilted your head a little, “I could hand out assignments…”
He smiled at you turning his chair toward you, “I would like that, but it’s a little more complicated then just handing out details. You’d need to be able to traverse from realm to realm freely…”
“Ah…right…mortal means of travel only for this one…” You hung your head as he took your hands, “I just want to help. I hate that everyone is able to do something and I’m just…stuck here.”
“Hey, I will let you know as soon as you can do something.” He kissed your fingertips, “Until then, relax, you’ve been through a lot this last year. Maybe go visit your mom and your brother.”
Relax…sure thing. When people you cared about were out there looking for a psychotic goddess who was in league with your loved ones even more psychotic father…
You were brought back to what was in front of you when Cerberus dropped a slobbery ball on top of your hand. You made a face, “Cerby…really!”
He pawed at you giving you a goofy look making you laugh. You tossed the ball as your computer pinged letting you know that you had a new email. You watched Cerberus prance off after the ball before opening it up.
“Huh…” You read it over a few times. It was a letter from Professor Talbot reaching out about being a guest in class.
Hades looked at you over dinner when you told him about, “Do you think you’ll go?”
“I don’t know.” You held your wine glass in the air thinking, “Maybe…I did like his course, what little I went to. He seemed really open to talk about different perspectives and didn’t think I was off my rocker when I told him I believed in you all.”
“You should do it.” He told you after a while.
“I don’t know…I mean with everything going on…” You shook your head setting the glass down.
“Y/N, just because you’re part of my family now doesn’t mean you stop your life.” Hades reached over taking your hand, “I’m actually really worried that you’re shutting yourself off from the world because of us.”
“I’m not…I call my mom all the time.” You told him squeezing his hand, “And I text my brother…”
“You know what I mean.” He smirked at you a little, “You had friends and you liked riding your bike…go be a guest for the class…I’ll be here when you get home.”
You couldn’t imagine anyone being more supportive. That’s not true you could think of one, but he was likely in Elysium now with Papa. You really did need to go see your mom and Gigi more often.
A week later you were back in the classroom discussing your belief in Hellenism. The class asked a lot of question about rituals, sacrifices, and whether or not you danced around a fire naked. Of course, you answered them to the best of your ability, putting to rest a lot of the misconceptions. You told them that most of your family had converted to Christian Orthodox but retained a strong belief in the Hellenistic gods.
“How does that work? How can you believe in one thing and then something that completely opposes it?” A young freshman girl asked squinting at you.
“Uh…good question. I mean…my grandparents were very Hellenistic. They would pump it into every bedtime story and they were so superstitious. Since my father was raised that way it translated over, it was my mom who was more the Christian Orthodox.” You smiled at her, “We went to church, had communion…but uh…my parents never made me choose.”
“So…which is it?” Another student asked.
“Well, you know about a year ago I would have said Christian Orthodox, but I have had a bit of journey this year.” You told them leaning against the front desk, “At the end of the day I guess I believe in it all now, but I put my faith in only a certain few.”
“What ones?” You flushed a little as everyone stared at you expectantly.
“And that is all the time we have for today. Everyone join me in thanking Ms. Petrakis for being willing to share her beliefs.” Professor Talbot stepped next to you clapping his hands getting the rest of the class to join him. He assigned them all some work as they filed out.
You collected your jacket and helmet turning to him, “Professor Talbot, thank you for inviting me here today.”
“No, thank you for coming. I missed having you in class.” He smiled at you as he button up his suit coat, “I heard about what happened with your father…I’m sorry.”
You took a deep breath in nodded as pain hit your heart, “Thank you…”
“You seem to be fairing well.” You looked at him as he started collecting papers off his desk.
“I have a good support system around me. Not sure I’d make it without them.” You told him setting your helmet on a desk and zipped up your coat.
“I bet, having the whole of Olympus does make one feel comfortable I imagine.” You froze momentarily as he continued to pack up.
He turned around big smirk planted on his face. You felt your mouth go dry as his eyes pierced yours making you shiver, “Well…Hellenism has it’s perks that way…”
“Hm…you’re very bright.” He stepped toward you as you picked up your helmet, “I can see the appeal I suppose.”
Your heart thumped against your chest wildly as a tingling sensation filled your nose, “E-excuse me?”
“You’re a very hard person to kill, Ms. Petrakis.” He ran a hand through his hair, his handsome features disappearing turning into a dangerous look as you began taking steps away from him, “Then again I was relying on an incompetent youngling…”
You swallowed down the knot in your throat, “What did you do with Media?”
“I put her away.” He shrugged a little as if it was an everyday occurrence, “Along with a few others, not to worry…”
“W-what do you want from me?” You felt a tear fall down your face as you bumped into a desk.
He stepped right up to you, taking your chin in between his finger and thumb gently with care, “Media, already told you what I wanted. I want you to break Hades’ heart. Shatter it…send him spiraling down the rabbit hole back where he belongs…”
“He’s your son…how can you-ah!” His grip tightened quickly silencing you.
“He…is a tool…one I intend to reforge to use for my purpose and believe me…” He leaned in right next to your face, “if you don’t do exactly as I say…you will watch him destroy everything you love and hold dear once I have ahold of him.”
He let go of you standing up straight giving you a smile, “Have a good day, Ms. Petrakis. Thank you again for your wonderful presentation.”
When he finally left, everything seemed to catch up with you. You grabbed your helmet running for the bathroom into a stall getting sick several times before collapsing into a sobbing mess. You could feel your arm burning and soon your phone was ringing.
You pulled it out seeing Hades’ number. You answered it letting out another sob, “Ha-hades…don’t come here…you can’t come here…”
“Y/N, what’s wrong.” Hades looked at Poseidon as his hand went to his chest feeling distress, “Calm down and tell me what’s happening.”
“Cronus…he’s here…I don’t know how but he’s here.” You shuddered pulling your knees closer to yourself as tears soaked into your jeans, “H-he did something to Media…and I think someone else…”
“I’m coming to get you.” He turned from Poseidon who had already summoned his trident. Your immediate protest made him pause, “Y/N, you’re not safe there…”
“I-I’ll go…I just…” You took in a deep breath, “I just need a minute. I’m okay.”
“You’re not…” You could hear his fear through the phone, “You’re not okay…let me come to you.”
“No…that’s what he wants…” You sniffed putting your hand to your chest, “He wants you.”
Hades felt his world drop from under him. After all this time locked away in the darkest depths of this world, his hatred for Hades still existed.
Hades cleared his throat, “Go straight home. I will meet you there.”

Gosh it sure has been a hot sec since I posted anything...
I promise, I'm still here. The coronavirus has got me working some strange and unusual shifts. On top of that who knew my graphics job on the side would boom during this!?(fuck I didn't, shit... 😭 Good bye spare time)
Anywho I just wanted to drop in and say hi! I love you all and I hope you're playing it safe during these scary times! (Pssst I work for the government, nothing scary has come down from chain of command, just distance yourselves, keep clean, and stay hydrated with proper amounts of rest!)
A new chapter is coming, I just find myself wanting to play in what little time I have free, so I've been dabbling in FFXV imagines for a while now. The two I have going on @amarabliss give me great joy!
As does All hail the new queen... Just this project is something I intend to move onto bigger things, so I wanna take the proper time and make sure this climax is written well .
I hope you understand ❤️
Remember to love and be kind always!

Hades sighed looking down at his watch again. They were going to be late at this point so what was a few more minutes. He was sure everyone would understand. At least Zeus would, he knew everything that was going on, which meant so did everyone else.
He looked in the foyer mirror adjusting his tie. He was never good at getting it in the right place. He sighed holding it letting his hand slowly fall when he saw you walk up behind him.
You wore a simple spring dress, with a shawl draped over your arms. You looked less then thrilled to be going to the spring event with him in Olympus. You had asked him not to go, but unfortunately it was the one required event of the year. You just happened to fall into his life at the same time as all the other required events of the century…
Things fell apart for you after your father’s passing. You begged him for days to see him, to which he had to heartbreakingly tell you no. Eventually, you told the school you were taking some time off…indefinitely. Too many things happening all at once…
“Y/N…” Everything he wanted to say to you he felt he couldn’t. A distance had built up between the both of you.
“Let’s just get this over with…okay?” You forced a smile avoiding eye contact with him, “I’m feeling tired and…I really don’t want to go…”
He nodded slowly offering his arm to you as he walked toward the door, “For what it’s worth…you look lovely.”
You glanced up to him as you nose got red as you took his arm. You looked away quickly trying not to smile, “Thank you…”
He smiled for you, something he told himself he needed to do for you sake. If you were struggling to be happy he would try to be happy for both of them until you were ready. He paused at the door looking down to you again, “I will try to keep this short…but there is some expectation. As soon as my duties are done, we can go.”
“I understand…” You nodded slowly. Hades understood everything, but he still wanted you to be part of his world. That meant doing things you didn’t want to for his sake.
He opened the door stepping through to Olympus. He watched as you stepped through your mouth dropping open as you looked around at it everything. You never got the chance to see it the same and each time it always seemed to surprise you. He hoped that at least the aesthetic would brighten your world, even just for a little while.
“There’s so many flowers….” You reached out to one of the pillars nearby caressing the flowers petals.
“Persephone.” Hades whispered to you as he stepped close plucking the flower gently before placing it into your hair. He smiled at you when you looked into his eyes as he brushed your hair into place, “This is her and her mother Demeter’s celebration. Relighting the life in the world…and in us…”
Taking your arm, he looped it into his escorting you into the crowd. He nodded to several other gods and goddesses as they made their way up to the front. He stopped at the edge of the stage seeing Hera waving him up.
He sighed turning to you as worry began to fill him, “I have to go up there as a show of support to Persephone…”
“I’ll be alright.” You told him with a small smile and curt nod.
“Don’t worry, Hades. I’ll act as chaperone for a moment if you’re worried.” He heard behind you. Looking over your head Hades saw Apollo approaching with a cup in his hand, “Go on…I’ll keep her safe.”
Hades held you hands in his for a moment staring at Apollo before looking down to you, “Apollo will keep you safe, if that’s alright?”
You looked back to Apollo who held his arm out to you. You nodded slowly looking back to Hades, “If that’s alright with you…”
Hades nodded slowly letting you go. He watched you take Apollo’s arm staring up to his face. He didn’t have a moment to ponder what could be going through your head as Hera came off the stage grabbing him by the arm, “Hades, it’s time!”
Your head snapped back over to him as you saw Hera practically dragging him away, “Oh…”
“He’ll be fine. He does this every year.” Apollo told you patting your arm.
“Yes, but he’s not fond of getting up in front of people…Hera knows that…” You watched him take his place next to Persephone, “You all have eternity to do things, she could be more patient.”
“My, my, you are very brave to say Hera needs a lesson in patience. Luckily she didn’t hear you.” Apollo chuckled raising his glass to his lips.
“And if she did? What?” You looked to him eyes narrowing slightly, “Would she strike me down? A poor mortal wouldn’t stand a chance next to the fierce rage of Hera.”
“…what happened to you?” Apollo began to pull you away when you scoffed at him. The stage disappeared from view as he refused to let you get away when you tugged for him to stop.
“Apollo…let go…” You frowned looking back across the crowd as Hera took her place and began speaking to everyone, “They’re starting…”
“You didn’t seem to keen to listen a moment ago.” He pulled you out onto one of the balconies, “Now…you are not the same young woman I saved a few months ago... What happened?”
You stared at him for a long moment, “…w-why does it matter? Why does anything that has to do with me matter to any of you!?”
Apollo glanced over to the crowd seeing a few people look over curiously, sighing he pulled you away from their view, “Because…it’s our job to care about mortals…without you all there isn’t a point to our existence, is the short answer. Now…what’s wrong?”
You stated at him a long time before stepping away looking out over the sea, “Nothing…”
Apollo sighed in frustration, “Y/N…”
“No.” You looked back to him again tearing up, “The problem is…nothing…everything is good. I’m happy…I’m surrounded by people who care about me. Everything is…fine…”
“…I don’t follow…” He stepped next to you, confusion falling over his handsome features, “If everything is fine, why doesn’t it seem like you’re fine?”
“My father died, and I was sad…I mourned him, but then it was fine…” He watched you take in a deep breath before letting it out as tears fell down on the guard rail, “Everything was fine. I didn’t feel an absence o-or anger…or…anything…and-and I just feel like I should feel something, if I’m crying all the time…because I’m always crying.”
Apollo let out a long sigh looking out to the horizon as he began to understand, “Oh mortals, you feel so deeply in everything you do…Especially loss. I understand loss of a loved one…”
You looked to him seeing a great pain fall on his features for a moment before he smiled again, “Everyone deals with death differently. Even gods. I…when Zeus killed my son…I was so angry. I blamed him and my Uncle Hades…enough that I killed the Cyclops that makes father’s weapons, but killing him didn’t help ease any pain.”
“I was sent away for a while, but I take after my father, so I didn’t learn my lesson right away. We fought for years…eventually I came to realize that it wasn’t Zeus I should be angry with…He could care less about balance…it was Hades. So consumed with life and death…perfect at his job… He brought the problem up and Zeus resolved it.” He sighed shutting his eyes as his hands tightened on the railing thinking about it.
“Asclepius?” He glanced at you as you looked at him curiously.
“You’re very smart…” He smirked a little before chuckling.
“I really liked my Gigi’s stories.” You smiled at him before your eyes narrowed a little, “But I thought Zeus put Asclepius in the stars?”
“He did.” Apollo looked up sighing again heart heavy seeing his son resting high above, “And one day he promised to make him a god, a full one.”
“Why not now?” You looked up at the twinkling stars trying to imagine what it was like.
“Balance…always about the damn balance. Asclepius had surpassed us all in the world of medicine, a feat every father would normally be proud of, which I am by the way…but it’s not time for him yet, the world isn’t ready…” Apollo looked back to you, eyes full of wisdom, “The point is…what you’re feeling is okay…I reacted with anger for a long time, I…still do…there are still pains, there always will be for people we love.”
“But that’s just it…” You sighed crossing your arms, “There isn’t any pain. Hades he…he kept such close eye on me. Even after I yelled at him…so many times…he stayed. I think about my dad and all the happy things come back to me. He was a good man, and a good father. I think I want to feel upset but I have no reason to be…maybe…”
“Answer this for me then, why do you cry?” Apollo stepped close to you. When you didn’t answer him, he reached up taking cupping your cheek to look at him. You were still that curious little girl to him and he wanted to make sure you stayed true to yourself, “Don’t be afraid to admit everything your feeling.”
“Cause I feel…” You stopped short staring into his eyes. His head tilted a little as formulated the words, “…so loved…and it scares me how much love him. How perfect everything feels…”
Apollo smiled letting his hand drop from your face taking yours in his tightly as he kissed your fingers, “Hades…is a very, very lucky man to have someone like you love him so brightly.”
“Oh my…oh my…” You tensed up hearing the click clack of high heels behind you. You watched as Apollo’s eyes shifted from you to the woman behind you, “It’s so, so sweet…lovers in the dark…”
You turned around finally looking at Media walking up like a cat ready to pounce, “Why are you so…cruel?”
She laughed stopping in front of you both cocking her hip out, “Cruel? Me? I like to think of it as being honest.”
“Honest…that’s very sad of you, if you think what you do is honest.” Apollo squared off behind you as he crossed his arms over his chest.
“And you’re just a bright ball of sunshine as always, Apollo.” Meedia glared at him before returning to you, “Do you honestly think the god of the Underworld…King of his cold dark dismal land actually loves you? He could have anyone…anything…do you honestly…really honestly think he’s settling just for you? A mortal who will grow old, and frail until you’re dust…”
“I’m not going to listen to this…Apollo…” You turned and started heading for the party.
“Right behind you.” He stepped in front of Media who tried to follow you, “No…you’re done for the night.”
“Am I?” Meedia quirked an eyebrow before patting the side of his face winking before she walked past him.
You pushed past people in the crowd whispering ‘excuse me’ to get past. You just wanted to get back to Hades and go home. You glanced back to thank Apollo, but he wasn’t there. You stopped looking back through the crowd seeing him frozen on the balcony, Media nowhere to be seen.
“Looking for me?” You turned quickly hearing her voice in your ear. She smirked as she started to circle you, “Ah yes…no one to protect you right now…and you don’t wanna cause a scene, do you? Mortal girl, surrounded by gods who could simply snap their fingers and ruin everything in your pathetic life.”
“What do you want?” You hissed at her glancing up at the stage seeing Persephone speaking to the crowd as she took Hades’ hand. He was giving her back to let life spring again in the world.
“I like you…straight to the point, no filler episodes needed.” Meedia perched her chin on your shoulder wrapping her arms around your waist making your skin crawl.
Look at me… You pleaded in your head staring at Hades. You watched his hand clench and flex as his head swiveled to the crowd eyes scanning to find you, you hoped.
“I want you…to break his heart…in front of everyone here.” You looked away from Hades stepping from her rapidly, “Don’t do anything stupid, Y/N…”
“Stupid…what is wrong with you!?” Your voice rose and people moved away from you, “Why are you like this?!”
A hush fell over the crowd as everyone’s eyes moved to you both. Meedia looked around straightening up, “My dear I’m…”
“If you say a god…so help me…” You stepped toward her closing your fist at your side, stopping in front of her, nose to nose, “I feel sorry for you, Media…that you feel so inadequate about yourself…so broken that you have to bully anyone who is happy.”
“I do not feel…” You raised a finger to her face stopping her from speaking.
“I don’t care! Wanna know why?” You raised your eyebrows before pointing up to the stage, “Because I love him. I love Hades so much that your cruel and angry words cannot shatter that, and I feel sorry that you will never get a chance to feel what I feel for him because of how you act. Because you build relationships out of poison that festers and kills any hope there is.”
“…is there a problem?” Hades voice washed over you from behind. You turned seeing his concerned look ready to throw down as he stepped through the crowd.
“No…not anymore.” You smiled before pushing up on you toes kissing him deeply as your arms slinked around his neck. Chuckles, giggles, and exclamations were heard before the crowd began to clap. You were too consumed with the man in front of you to notice Media slink back and disappear.
You pulled away looking into his eyes seeing them dazzle in surprise, “I love you, Hades.”
You watched his mouth drop open slightly before it turned into a smile. He cupped your cheek letting his thumb absently caress your cheek, “I love you too.”
You smiled at him as he pressed his forehead against yours nudging his nose lightly. You stayed in the moment for little longer before your eyes widened in worry, “Apollo…”

Zeus took a deep breath in through his nose as he stared at the house through the gate, “Charon…”
“Yes, Lord Zeus?” Charon asked from his guard post leaning back in his chair with his feet propped up as he turned the page of the magazine he was reading.
“Could you please try again?” Zeus huffed as he began tapping his foot.
“I could Lord Zeus, but I believe the last four times will give you the answer of the fifth time.” Charon spoke without looking up, “Is the request urgent?”
“…not…particularly…” Zeus pinched the bridge of his nose as he muttered, “Who allowed this stupid rule that Hades had to grant other gods permission to enter the Underworld?”
“I believe that was you, Lord Zeus.” Charon smiled at him as he sat up from finishing his article.
“Thank you, Charon. You do have a good memory…” Zeus groaned as the ferryman disappeared, “What could he be doing that keeps me out here?”
“Lord Hades?” Charon spoke quietly as he appeared in the dining room next to Hades.
Hades held up a finger, “Drinking a cup of coffee is something people do every day, alone or with friends, at home or at work. A researcher following the theory of symbolic interactionism who is observing two people enjoying a coffee together would primarily point out that…”
He watched you take in a deep breath, “Uh…that coffee has become more of a symbolic morning ritual?”
“Close enough in my book.” Hades handed the note card over to you as he looked to Charon, “Hasn’t left yet?”
“No, sir, he seems insistent on seeing you today.” Charon smiled at you both.
You looked up from reading the full answer, “Hades, if you need to go…”
“No…today is important for you. I want you to feel as prepared as you can.” Hades looked back to Charon, “Tell him to return this afternoon, I’m busy helping Y/N.”
“Yes, of course.” Charon smiled as he turned sticking his head out the guard house, “Lord Zeus…My Lord Hades has requested you return this afternoon when he’s finished indulging Y/N in her studies.”
Hades looked up from the card in his hand as he heard a loud wail. Zeus…ever the baby of the family. He found it truly amazing that his little brother had single handedly rescued him then after led a war, “I’m sorry…my brother’s pure distain distracted me, what did you say?”
“It’s fine, I know it’s right.” You took in a deep breath closing your book before standing up from the table, “I have to get going anyway, I need to pick up some scantrons.”
“Are you sure? We can go over it again…” He stood up scooping up your study cards, “Or I could drive you there, squeeze in a few more questions.”
“As much as I appreciate it, I think I just want to take a nice drive on Lana and relax a bit.” You smiled at him before leaning up on your toes kissing his cheek, “Thank you…I’ll be home late.”
He smiled a little reaching up touch his cheek. You were so gentle with him and he never understood why? He was a god; he didn’t need you to be gentle. He asked you the other day and you told him it was because you knew his heart was fragile. Which of course led to him asking how you knew that? You responded with a bright smile telling him you just knew.
Thankfully his brother heeded his request. He had a few hours of peace before he came calling again. He finished signing off on a few things as Zeus walked into his office taking a seat in front of his desk with a huff.
“It wasn’t that long of a wait.” Hades shook his head before looking up to him. He froze a little seeing a scroll in his hand, “You took the record out of the library?”
“I asked permission, they know I have it.” Zeus told him taking a deep breath, “I’m on to something and I wanted to talk to you about it. I could use your council right now.”
It had been close to five hundred years since Zeus had asked him for his help on a serious matter. Hades bowed his head taking off his glasses, “Of course, Lord Zeus…”
“Oh stop that…” Zeus stood up setting the scroll on the desk before putting his hands on his hips, “We’re still brothers, Hades…”
“Just wanted to make it somewhat official.” Hades reached over untying the scroll, “What has you so bothered?”
“Y/N…” Hades looked to him seeing his eyes serious, but raising his hands to let him finish, “Not her, really…Just her family’s access to this.”
He laid your grandmother’s book on the table next to the scroll, “I don’t understand.”
“That scroll is a blessing record from Hecate.” Zeus planted a finger on your book, “And this is the blessing. Ways to create doors to our realms.”
“There can’t be a door to everyone…” Hades scoffed pulling from his brother’s index finger staring at him, “Zeus, that would have been…”
“Completely irresponsible? I don’t remember being exactly an example of following rules and being responsible.” Zeus sighed taking a step back falling into his seat, “I asked Hecate again and she really doesn’t remember doing it. It was back when Dionysus was roving the world. Magnificent parties…but the stuff was hard stuff and even I had my hazy moments.”
Hades began flipping through it seeing several he instantly recognized, “Shit…”
“That’s definitely one word.” Zeus began rubbing his temples with his thumb and middle finger, “As far as I know, this is the only one. At least there’s solace in that.”
“What are you going to do?” Hades shut the leather book, keeping his hand on top of it. This was a serious matter, mortals weren’t supposed to exist in our realms and those that came were privileged and only allowed brief stays at the protection of a god.
“I’m not sure. I’m unsettled that they were able to just…walk in…but as far as I can tell they only did it a handful of times and for acceptable requests.” Zeus let his hand fall to the arm rest, “And I suppose since Y/N is in possession of it and she is residing with you…we don’t have much to worry about.”
Hades leaned back relaxing a little, “You seemed as if there was a problem, but it worked itself out, didn’t it?”
Zeus looked away trying to find the right way to speak the next few sentences, “Do you remember the Prophecy of the Rise?”
Hades tensed as his eyes widened. This was the second mention of it in the course of a couple weeks, “What of it? It’s a fairy tale.”
Hades watched his brother shift uncomfortably, “Not exactly…”
“Zeus, stop dancing around the problem and spit it out!” Hades glared at him, “You’re freaking me out.”
“You should be…” Zeus swallowed finally looking at him, “The Fates…They called on me when they were young…very young…I first thought they wanted to play a game as children do…but then Atropos took my hand and her sisters fell in line with her and they spoke the immovable words.”
“The doors will open; the brother shall mark a strengthening of bonds by the spilling of mortal blood. It shall be then, the exiled one shall awaken from his cage causing an age of pain and the dawn of evil, and a rise of a new god by greater sacrifice.” Hades shook his head slowly, “I’ve heard it, we all have…It’s nonsense…”
“It’s what I fed everyone.” Zeus looked away ashamed, “Everyone was healing…mortals were worshipping…everyone was happy…I didn’t want fear to rule everyone again.”
Hades felt a cold chill run up his spine, “W-what did it actually say…Zeus?”
“The doors will open, when the moment comes that summer ends, the young one shall cause a rise of faith and an age of justice. Mortal blood will spill in the halls of Olympus, upon that night the exiled one will awaken in his cage.” Hades felt his throat tighten as fear crept over his features, “The monster will break his chains bringing pain as he steps back into this world, seeking vengeance. The old one will walk away, as the newcomer’s sacrifice marks the rise of hope, upon that day what was shrouded will be revealed…”
“I’m sorry…Hades…” Zeus hung his head when he finished, “I think we all know who it speaks of…”
“You should have told us…” Hades whispered as he clenched his fist.
“I know…I just…” Zeus cleared his throat, “You were just beginning to move on…I didn’t want this to hang over you…all of you…”
“I would have never allowed her here!” Hades snapped at him, “What the Fates say is law! I would have never let her near this place! Dammit Zeus!”
Zeus watched Hades stand to his feet looking out the back window at his kingdom, “Hades…”
“She’s been to Olympus twice…the first time she was dragged across the floor and threatened…The second time…” Hades felt everything inside of him crumbling, “Media…”
Zeus stood up setting his jaw, “What about Media?”
“Gy…” He turned to his brother worry in his eyes, “He came to us and warned us…I thought it was story, so I dismissed it as a youngster overthinking…but Media, she believes in this prophecy…enough to try and make it come true.”
Zeus nodded slowly, “Hades I am truly sorry, but I don’t regret keeping it from you. Prophecies become forced if you dwell on them…and that girl…that woman…Y/N, she’s good for you, and you would have never known her if you knew everything.”
Hades looked away for a moment before looking back seeing Zeus heading for the door, “Where are you going?”
“I’m going to fix this…unlike you,” Zeus glanced back at him when he opened the door, “I don’t let prophecies tell me what to do, and even as they come true…I gotta believe that if we’re lucky they left something out…They usually do.”
Hades stood alone in his office staring at the book on his desk…the doors… He took it throwing it into his desk drawer locking it away. The Fates were always cruel to him.
He shut his eyes tightly thinking of you. He felt more faith then he’d felt in a long time when you entered his temple the first time. Then living with you daily, your passion fueled him. Maybe because he was drinking it up from the source, but he knew that already two points of the prophecy was true. He just had to keep you from Olympus for as long as he could.
He played Zeus’ words over and over trying to decipher any other clues. Time slipped away from him as evening came. Still he sat there, eyes shut repeating the words slowly. He was only brought out of his trance when he heard your voice.
“Hades…” His eyes flashed open as he pushed away everything. He had to make sure everything well for you. Today had been a big day for you.
“Y/N, how did…” He stopped as he saw you standing in the middle of his office. His heart jumped to his throat as he saw the blood trickling down your neck. Everything shook inside of him as he saw your soul standing before him. You were dying somewhere…
Your eyes looked through him as you spoke again. It was this time he noticed the distance, “Hades…help…”
The apparition of you faded leaving his heart pounding in his ears. You were still with the living, but he didn’t know for how long. He snapped his fingers as he appeared outside on the tallest building of the city his bident in his hand. He shut his eyes tightly clenching his empty fist trying to draw your connection to him. It was faint…you were still at the school.
Another snap and he was outside the barrier he’d put up months ago. His pushed against it closing his eyes tightly. He could feel you on the other side as he whispered, “I’m sorry…I have to break my promise…”
He raised his other arm up thrusting the bident into the barrier shattering it shattering it across the entire campus. Instantly his connection to you strengthened. He hadn’t realized how dampened it was while you were at school, even now as it grew weaker with every drawn breath.
He raced to the top of another building looking over the campus. He was breaking all the rules tonight as he shut his eyes locating you by connecting to your brand. He felt inwardly sick breaking his promises to you, one right after another…but he couldn’t apologize to the dead, could he? He would bear it this time…
His eyes connected to the source in the distance, seeing a dull purple glow. He wasted no more time as he phased over to the source. He stood in a parking lot hearing a struggle. He turned his head sharply seeing young mortal struggling to get someone into the back seat of the car. That someone lit up like light to him.
Hades could not contain the rage inside of him as he strode forward throwing bident into the car pushing it away from them. The young man turned frightened right into his clutches. Hades relished the small noise of fear that escaped him.
His eyes flicked over to the car where he saw you, unconscious in the backseat, clothes disheveled, blood down you neck. His eyes darkened as a cold wind began to circle around his feet. He spoke as he lifted this pathetic mortal off the ground, “You dare…”
“What the fuck!?” The panic that overtook the clawing man only angered Hades further.
“Silence!” The lights in the parking lot shattered at Hades’ demand. The mortal fell quiet, only whimpers escaping him, “You dare lay a hand on her?”
“I…I didn’t…” He shook his head stammering only seeing the deep purple glowing eyes, “Please…please who are you?”
Hades pulled him close the wind picking up as his voice lowered, “I am thing your world has turned into a twisted mad villain, full of rage and ready for vengeance…so I will play the part and I will play it well…I am Hades, King of the Underworld and I am having a very bad day…”

Hades walked briskly through the stacks and stacks of records of the Underworld library. Until he finally found his brother standing there, lantern floating above him as he pulled another dusty scroll out of its place holder, “Whatever this is…make it fast.”
Zeus looked at him blinking several times, “What is so important that you can’t indulge me?”
Hades rolled his eyes before they landed in his brother’s face again. He raised a hand pointing at Zeus, “You shaved.”
Zeus frowned looking back at the scroll, “I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Y/N was right, wasn’t she? Hera didn’t actually like it.” Hades smirked a little watch his brother scowl more. Hades chuckled before crossing his arms, “What are we doing here, Zeus?”
Zeus put the scroll back, “I’m looking for a blessing record.”
“A blessing record?” Hades straightened up finding his brother to be here for a serious reason, “From who?”
“Hecate.” Zeus chuckled when Hades got an even more confused look, “I know, she’s not really a blessing type of person, but that’s what my source told me.”
“Source? Did you ever think to ask Hecate?” Hades reached up grabbing the lantern and began walking away leaving Zeus to catch up.
“I did, and she said she didn’t remember.” Zeus told him finally getting in stride with him, “In fact she said she did some strange things back in the day and things are a little fuzzy. They started to clear up when she came to visit Percy in the Underworld and then when you asked her to stay on to help here and there…that’s when things become clearer.”
“Well, any blessing will be recorded under whatever god or goddess granted it.” Hades led him over to Hecate’s section, “You know Hecate sorted this library out for me, I’m not sure if you’re going to find anything. What’s this about?”
Zeus began running his hands over the documents looking at the descriptions and titles, “I don’t know, I just have a feeling. It’s time for me to be king again and take an interest.”
Hades watched his brother taking in a deep breath as he looked at his watch. You would understand…he knew you would, you always did, “Zeus, if there’s something you need to talk about…”
His brother looked at him seriously for a moment before he broke out into a smile, “I’m sure it’s nothing, and besides you are dressed in a very nice suit. What’s the occasion?”
Hades didn’t freeze much around Zeus anymore, but he wasn’t sure if he wanted the whole of Olympus to know about his progression in relationship with you. Not that much happened after your cousin’s party. The whole way home he’d ran through different scenarios.
Several that might even make his dear younger brother blush…
Hades glanced over to you as he drove into the driveway. You had become very silent on the ride home and it worried him. Things had moved so quickly in a manner of an hour, he hoped you didn’t regret it.
He parked, turned off the engine and looked at you, “Y/N…I…if I’ve put you in a position…”
“Hades,” You interrupted him with a touch on the arm and a smile, “I wouldn’t have done anything if I hadn’t wanted it.”
He felt a knot in his throat as he gently took your hand kissing your fingers, “Good…”
You smiled at him taking your hand back as you reached for the door. He could see that you were sincere with your answer but there was something in your eyes that clouded this happy moment.
He got out quickly coming around helping you out of the car taking your hands in his, “Y/N, is something wrong?”
You swallowed looking away, “I’m not very good at hiding things from you…I never have been.”
“What is it?” Concerned crushed any heat from his mind as his role as a protector overtook him.
“…I think there might be something wrong with my dad…I don’t know I just got this feeling as we left.” You finally looked him in the eyes, “I know he wouldn’t say anything…and I know mom she would be telling everyone…”
He nodded listening for a moment, “…I could look…if it’s what you want, but Y/N…knowing when someone goes…it often doesn’t work out the way the person intended.”
You hung your head nodding a little, “I know…it’s just…”
Already he could see your emotions becoming wild and out of your control. He stepped forward pulling you to himself hoping to shield you from it all, “I promise if I find out anything, I’ll let you know, but…you have to promise to ask him yourself.”
You promised quickly wrapping your arms around him. The rest of the night was quiet. What he had expected to be passionate and awake, ended up being reserved perfection. Reading by the fire while you studied, until you could do no more falling asleep against his shoulder.
The side of his mouth twitched as he looked at his brother, “It’s just a suit…”
“Oh don’t think I didn’t notice those electrified eyes of yours just because it’s dim lit and I’m on a mission.” Zeus’ eyes narrowed on him, “Hades…”
“Fine…I’m taking Y/N out for dinner.” He shut his eyes preparing for the onslaught that would be coming his way.
“Well it’s about time! When this all happen? Unless…is this when it’s happening?” Zeus slapped his brother’s back raising his eyebrows.
“If you are referring to us become a more unified couple instead of roommates?” Hades internally groaned at the satisfied grin on Zeus’ face, “A couple weeks ago…”
“How? I must know!” Zeus smiled at him brightly, “Was it her? Was it you? Who made this sudden move for the better?”
Hades felt his cheeks burn, “I’m not talking to you about this.”
“It was both of you! It’s kismet!” He threw up his arms.
“That’s not ours brother, shame on you.” Hades shook his head, “Especially down here…”
“The Fates can go suck it…kismet is much more poetic.” Zeus smirked at him, “But seriously, I am happy for you.”
Hades looked at him for a moment before he smiled, “Thank you, if you need anything…”
“I will not dare disturb you tonight.” Zeus waved his hands shooing him away as he walked back down the stack, “I will manage and make sure that I am out on time, I promise. You’ll not have any trouble from me, so don’t worry.”
“Zeus…” Hades watched him stop looking back at him, “You look good.”
“I do, don’t I?” Zeus winked at him before he turned away, “Tell Y/N hello for me, oh! And I’d still like to see that book if we can arrange it?”
Hades waved his hand to him as he exited the library into the foyer of the house. Cerberus ran up to him tongue hanging out happily.
Hades smiled scratching behind his ears, “What are you so happy about?”
“I just had a long tug of war session with him.” Hades looked up seeing you in sundress with a shrug. His mouth dropped open slightly as you smiled at him, “I hope this is ‘dolled up’ enough?”
He chuckled at the reference to the text he sent you earlier in the week requesting you get dolled up for their date this evening, “Quite. Does the request date me?”
“No.” You stepped up to him eyes twinkling, “It’s sweet.”
“Glad to know.” He offered his arm to you, “Ready?”
“Very. Everything okay with Zeus?” You looped your arm with his.
“Yes. He’s just investigating something.” He smirked a little as he lowered his voice, “He shaved by the way.”
Your laughter brought him joy, “But I doubt he’ll admit that I was right.”
“Never.” He opened the door leading you outside to the car, “He also mentioned a book he needed to barrow from you?”
“Oh, that’s right.” You closed your eyes nodding, “I was talking to him about the book I used to get to the Underworld. I could go get it now…”
“No…we can arrange something when we get back. Zeus has taken up enough of our time tonight.” He opened the car door for you.
“You sure?” You stopped in front of him smiling sweetly.
“Very sure, he’s waited this long, he can wait another day.” He could see that you were not entirely sold on this, “Fine…I’ll have…uh…”
He snapped his fingers trying to remember the shades names as you watched him, “…Lil..”
“Lilly, yes…I remember. I’ll have Lilly find it and deliver it?” Ever since you’d arrived the shades had begun to change. They remembered who they were in a sense and you’d been requesting them by name. A few even moved on. He still struggled with the idea of addressing them differently from what he’d been doing since…oh you know…ever, “Acceptable?”
“Yes, it’s on my desk.” You leaned up kissing his cheek.
He grinned as you stepped into the car before he shut the door. He stepped around the other side shutting his eyes reaching out to Lilly giving her the instruction. She acknowledged as he sat down starting the car looking to you, “Done.”
“One day you will have to teach me all of your secrets of communication, so I no longer have to get out bed and still participate in class.” You smirked at him, “So, where are we going?”
“A place with food.” He reached over taking your hand as you gave him an unsatisfied look, “It’s an old curry joint on the ocean. I normally order out, but recent company has prompted me visit and sit down.”
“Aww, I’m getting you out of the house.” You squeezed his hand, “So you like Indian food?”
“I do.” He glanced at you slightly worried, “Do you not?”
“I can’t say I’ve had much of it. What is it you like?” You seemed to watch him intently as he answered.
“Uh…well not much grows in the Underworld.” He spoke softly, “It was the colors of the spices that drew me first. Then when you try everything…the taste…”
“It’s hot right?” You made a worried face.
“It can be, but it’s more flavorful.” He saw your face and smiled, “It’s about how you cook it…I know the chef, I’ll make sure he’s gentle with you.”
“Good…I wouldn’t want anything to prevent what happens after dinner.” You looked away smirking when his head turned to you, but he caught your reflection in the window.
Hades sometimes felt he was in over his head with you. Your world was fast and new. His was old and slow. You lived in the now, while he lived for the future. You were a mortal…he was immortal.
Yet, every time he looked at you there was this spark. Something began to burn inside of him that he couldn’t explain. It was in everything you did; it gave him a rush that he’d never felt before.
“How is it?” He smiled watching your eyes begin to twinkle from the first bite you took.
“It’s…” You put your hand to your mouth as you continued to chew, “oh my gosh…it’s like heaven.”
He chuckled as he filled the water glasses again, “Good, I’m glad you like it.”
“I can’t believe this place is in town, I’ve driven past here so many times.” You spoke with exuberance, “How did you find it?”
“I…walk Cerberus…occasionally…Sometimes I need some fresh air,” He told you awkwardly, “and about 25 years ago I happened by here. It was just opening.”
You laughed a little, “I forget who you are sometimes until you say something like. What do you tell the owner? That you’re, your own son?”
“Yes…I used a glamor last time…changed my nose a bit.” He chuckled as your eyes widened, “What?”
“So…you choose how you appear to someone?” You reached for your glass letting the question rest between you both.
“If you’re worried that I’m not who I seem to be…don’t…I didn’t have a chance to change what I looked like when you came. You took me by surprise.” He liked the way your eyes lit up behind your cup when you heard the admission, “God…you do things to me…”
“Excuse me?” You blinked several times confused, “What does that mean?”
“You do things to me. The way your eyes light up when you talk to me. The way your smile makes me want to draw you near.” His smile only grew as you blushed, “You bring light into my very dark world and bring warmth where it’s been so cold.”
“You don’t mix words do you, Hades…” You licked your lips staring at him.
“I try not to. I find being direct gets you want you want.” He leaned forward putting his hand over yours, “Though if you prefer something more flowery and poetic…”
He watched your face get a strange look as you stared off behind him, “Hades…isn’t that…”
He looked back toward the bar were several gentlemen were at all dressed in business suits, but there was one man dressed to the nines with thick rimmed glasses. His dark complexion practically reflected the blue light from the overhanging lights. Or was it simply his god like charm feeding everyone around him.
Technology…
His eyes met Hades’ and nothing prepared him for the look of concern that fell on the young gods face. Hades turned back to look at you seeing worry. He smiled squeezing your hand, “Whatever happens in the next few moments, know that you are safe.”
You nodded slowly before looking up to the approaching Gy. Hades looked up to him waiting for what was about to happen, “Hades…Y/N, enjoying your meal?”
Hades nodded slowly, “Yes, things are always good here. Looks like you have business?”
“Yes…some developers.” Gy looked back over to the group of men who barely seemed to miss him, “Ground breaking work on a new OS. It’s going to be revolutionary, especially for the medical field. You might have heard of it Y/N, Metis.”
Hades watch your eyes get wide, “I…I have. It’s the new system to basically give faster imaging for x-rays, CAT scans, MRIs…everything. It’s going to be a fluid system, results will be something almost from a sci-fi novel, almost instantaneous…”
“Fluid…like water to an ocean…it’s why they thought it fitting to name after an Oceanid.” Gy smiled at you, “I happy to hear the hype is working, should get them the funding they need to accomplish their goals.”
“Good, sounds like your priorities are in order.” Hades gained Gy’s attention, “You should tell your friend to follow suit.”
Gy’s smile fell quickly, “That’s actually why I came over. Hades, have you heard of the Prophecy of the Rise?”
Hades shifted uneasily, “It’s a fable…something the Fates fabricated to keep young gods inline from going too far.”
“The doors will open; the brother shall mark a strengthening of bonds by the spilling of mortal blood. It shall be then, the exiled one shall awaken from his cage causing an age of pain and the dawn of evil, and a rise of a new god by greater sacrifice.” Gy told you both frowning, “Meedia, she believes in this prophecy. She has devoted her spare time to it, and she tried to drag me along.”
“I thought you two were tight?” Hades looked over to you when you spoke seeing a look of confusion and worry.
Gy sighed a little, “Often times we have to work together…she’s had an outlet since town criers were a thing, but she really took off when I came to be. You could say a light bulb went off…radios, telegraphs…we work in tandem, but not always in sync. Right now, her goals lay far, far away from mine and I want no part in her misguided attempts to power.”
“What would Media get out of this, if the prophecy were true?” Hades stared up at Gy.
“She believes the awakening of whoever this exiled one is will grant her a great favor. Give her more dominance of the realm of gods.” Gy looked away from him, “Look, I don’t want to be involved in this, but I know she is a devious bitch. Watch yourself Hades.”
Hades followed him with his eyes as he left the restaurant. His mind far away reading the lines of the prophecy over and over until an echo in the void slowly drew him back, “…ade…Ha…s…Hades.”
His eyes snapped to you, “I’m sorry…I was…”
“Worried.” You frowned looking at him, “We can go home if…”
“No.” He smiled shaking his head, “No, it’s nothing to worry about. Just a silly string of words to frighten everyone.”
“Are you sure?” You asked when he took your hand in his again.
“Yes.” He closed his eyes bringing your hand up to his lips kissing your fingers. “I love you for caring so much.”
He looked back to your face seeing it flushed a deep red. It took him a second to realize why. As he began to babble about how of course he meant ‘I love you’ as a form of endearment to your character, that in no means did he expect anything as strong in return at this time, you leaned over the table and kissed him.
You pulled away biting your lips together staring into his eyes as he tried cleared his throat. Finally you smiled, “Hi…”
“Hello…” His voice held a slight husk before he swallowed feeling everything from the moments before slip away. He found such a calm feeling when he looked into your eyes. It was enough to make him feel confident to move on with the evening, “We should go…”

Zeus flipped through the pages of the old book astounded that Hecate could be so careless to leave it in mortal hands. Yet he looked through the family’s history and they very rarely used it. They sought out Demeter once when crops were bad and then once with Athena when they needed protection.
Hera walked over to him, “Dear what are you looking at?”
“Did you know Hecate gifted the way of doors to a family of mortals?” Zeus held the book out to his wife watching her take it, “And that family is Y/N’s?”
“What?” Hera looked at him shocked, “How did you find that out?”
He held up the blessing record before setting it down standing up, “Hera, I fear somethings coming…and that girl is in the center of it and Hades is going to be wrap up as well.”
“Zeus…” She stepped up to him seeing the worry on his face, “You’re scaring me.”
He looked into her eyes forcing a smile, “Don’t be, I’ll figure it out. I always do.”

You sat in your parent’s couch letting out a soft sigh as you brought your coffee back to your lips. You made the mistake telling them you were in an accident. That’s what you had decided to tell everyone. Bike accident…
They insisted on seeing you more. You tried your best to get out of it but they threatened to find ‘Nick’s’ house and storm it. You were sure that Hades would be irritated when you told him you were expected to be elsewhere, but he surprised you saying he thought it would be a good idea.
He even came with you almost fifty percent of the time. Zeus had been calling him away a lot recently. He wouldn’t discuss it with you, but he’d often show up in the afternoon to pick you up. However, when he stayed he was roped into doing a lot of manual labor.
First you were furious! This was so…so beneath him…but then you saw how much Hades enjoyed it. Mowing the lawn, weeding, painting, and even building a new deck with your brother and father. He wasn’t good at most of it at first, but by the end of the day he was spot on with your brother.
“You’re still so pale…” You looked at your mother rolling your eyes, “You should eat something!”
“Ma…I’m fine. I live with a doctor, he is more worried then you and he even says I’m doing alright.” You told her letting out another sigh, “You guys really shouldn’t work him so hard…he’s…he’s a city boy…”
“Nick can handle himself, especially living with you...A girl who is so accident prone and riding a death machine!” Your mother threw up her hands shaking her head, “I don’t know why you keep it.”
“You know why…” You looked down to your lap picking at some lint, “And it wasn’t my fault, I told you that. I’m always safe…”
“It doesn’t matter Lígo…” You looked at your mother full of worry, “I already almost lost your brother…I won’t go thru that again.”
“Aw…Ma…” You scooted over wrapping your arms around her, “That’s not going to happen. I promise.”
She kissed your head as you both rocked a little watching the boys out back working on the deck. You smiled seeing Hades rolling his neck back and forth trying to get his muscles to relax. While relaxed clothes was not his style, you didn’t mind seeing him all sweaty.
With everything that had happened he was actually being the most reasonable. He only hovered over you the first few days in Olympus, but once you were home he seemed to relax. He relayed the story to the school, and since it was almost break for the holidays he managed to get you excused. Not that you doubted he could.
Then he told you he put the barrier back up. When you asked about Scott his face contorted with anger briefly. He told you the boy was the one who hit you. He didn’t remember anything, but being stressed and tired it was possible to hit a person on a motorcycle.
“He doesn’t remember anything?” You frowned shaking your head, “As in…you told him not to remember?”
Hades shook his head in frustration, “No…I mean he doesn’t remember anything. Hecate is looking into it for us. So far she recognizes that it was a spell or curse. Someone wanted this to happen.”
“What does that mean? Why?” You wrapped your arms around yourself tightly as you got worked up.
He stepped forward pulling you into a tight hug. “I don’t know, but we’re going to find out. Zeus, is not amused by this turn of events and plans to get everyone involved.”
“You love him.” Your ears turned pink as you looked at your mother’s smiling face.
“Ma…” You let her go huffing as you sat back into the couch.
“Don’t try to deny it.” Your mother stood up, “Even Jonah as said something to me, and I know it’s serious when he brings it to my attention. He has three little ones to run after and barely takes notice to anyone else.”
You rolled your eyes as she walked out. She wasn’t wrong though. You just didn’t want the first person to hear it to be her. You sighed again as you let your head fall back shutting your eyes. You didn’t know why you felt you couldn’t just openly say it to Hades, but every time you got there…it just didn’t happen.
“Go tell the boys dinner will be ready in 15 mins!” Your mother shouted at you.
With how loud she was, you were pretty sure they heard her, but you didn’t dare disobey her. You stood up walking toward the back slider meeting your brother as he entered. He smiled at you, “Lígo…”
“What?” You stared up at him as he had a smirk on his face.
“We heard her…but I wouldn’t go out there right now…” Jonah shut the silder.
Your eyes narrowed on him, “…why not?”
“I think dad is giving Nick the family talk.” You instantly tried to move past him, “Hey…no…this is something that needs to happen sis… I like Nick, and we all see how you two are around each other. It’s time.”
“Jonah, you don’t understand…Ha…Nick, isn’t as traditional…” You began to explain.
“Yeah, but, we are. He’s gotta know what he’s marrying into. This is dad’s thing, so let him have it okay?” Jonah ruffled your hair as you scowled slapping his back as he passed making him laugh.
You stared out the back seeing your father handing a beer to Hades before sitting down next to him. You couldn’t help but smile a little seeing two of your favorite people next to each other. You only hoped that this… ‘talk’ went easily enough…
“I can’t thank you enough Nick for all your help. I know you work hard at the hospital, so to invest your time afterwards here…it means a lot.” Hades looked at your father taking a long enjoyable drink.
“It’s not a problem, sir.” He told him before sipping his own, “It’s been nice to do things with my hands again…”
“Good. Manual labor is one of the most rewarding things man can do.” Your father waved his hand out toward the deck, “Instant gratification…you see your progress and feel it’s completeness. What more could a man need?”
Hades looked at him, “I don’t know, Mr. Petrakis…”
“Please…you’ve been here enough times now…call me Chris.” He smiled at Hades, “I’ll tell you what is better, son…Family.”
Hades swallowed before looking away a little, “I suppose you’re right. Family above all, right?”
“Right…” Chris nodded slowly, “I know you love my daughter. I see the way you look at her when she’s not looking. It’s the same way I look at her mother.”
Hades felt the back of his neck get hot, “Uh…”
“It’s alright. I approve.” Chris patted his shoulder looking up at the sky, “I can only thank the gods that you were sent her way. You have brought this family so much, Nick. You saved my boys legs, allowed him to live again, and now you take care of my baby girl. I only hope you intend to do right by her.”
“I do…” Hades nodded slowly feeling a weight in his chest. Of course, he couldn’t tell this man the reality of everything so he…lied? Was it a lie when he did intend on never parting from you, “I just am waiting for the right time…She’s still in school…I’m trying to get my loans under control…I just want it all to be right…”
“I am glad to hear that.” Chris raised his drink to him clinking the bottles together, “But Nick, that’s only part of what I wanted to say to you. Like I said family is important and I know it’s important to you from how you talked about your brothers and sisters from time to time.”
Hades watched as Chris slid off the deck to stand next to him as he went on, “I see how you care for my daughter, and I appreciate it so much. She gives so much to everyone all time it is nice to see someone giving back to her. For that I am proud to call you my son.”
Hades felt a knot form in his throat as he looked down into this drink. He didn’t know why his words hit him quite so hard but they did. He sniffed and cleared his throat, “T-that means a lot, sir…thank you.”
“Nick, I get the feeling your father wasn’t exactly the man you wanted him to be.” Chris spoke quietly next to him.
“That’s an understatement…” Hades whispered clearing his throat again, “He…never really wanted any of us, but he tried everything to make us into what he really wanted. When it wasn’t enough he’d just…try repeating the same thing to see if it would work eventually, but it was never enough.”
Chris put his arm around Hades’ shoulders squeezing him tightly as a tear slipped down the old god’s face, “I’m sorry…”
“You know, even now…I have so much that I’ve worked for, so much that I’ve accomplished…” Hades didn’t know why he kept going, it just seemed to spill out of him like his tears, “I have it all…and it still wouldn’t be enough for him, and even now I still just want him…I just want him to be proud of what I’ve done…but it’ll never be enough.”
“Oh son.” Chris set his beer down and pulled Hades to him hugging him tightly. Hades froze for a moment before embracing this man back burying his face into his shoulder, “You have nothing to prove anymore. You are so much more then what he ever wanted from you, do you understand?
Chris pulled away planting his forehead against Hades’ to look into his eyes, “You made yourself from the clay he refused to help shape. You molded yourself into a bright and beautiful soul that gives back to this world. Any man who can’t see that is a fool and doesn’t deserve a second thought.”
Hades took in a shuddered breath before nodding, “...thank you…”
“Any time.” Chris kissed his cheek pulling him into a hug again, “Even if for some unknown reason you and Y/N choose to part, you call me. I will be there.”
Hades nodded as he parted from him tapping his cheek lightly before moving back on to the porch telling him it was time for dinner, “I’ll be right there…”
“Don’t take too long or else Jonah will take everything. He acts like his wife can’t cook…” Chris grumbled as he walked toward the slider smiling when he saw you walking out. He pulled you into a hug kissing your cheek, “My Lígo...I love you.”
“I love you too.” You smiled at him as he walked inside. Hades glanced over to you as you walked up, “Hades?”
“I’m alright…” He sniffed looking away from you as you slid of the porch, “I see that you are just like you father…”
“Why do you say that?” You moved in front of him wrapping your arms around him finally seeing his puffy face, “What happened?”
He looked down to you finally putting both of his hands on either side of your face caressing your cheek with his thumb, “I made deal with a mortal woman…and she brought me home to meet her family and I have never felt more at peace…”
You smiled at him as he leaned down kissing you for all to see. You took a deep breath through your nose when your eyes shut and he pulled your closer. When he parted from you, you wobbled a little allowing him to steady you before you opened eyes looking at him.
He brushed your hair back into place before taking your hand in his giving you a big smile, “I’m told if we don’t hurry, there will be none left.”
You laughed a little, “Well you’ve been informed correctly.”
He smirked as he put his hands on your hips lifting you up onto the porch making you let out a yelp. He moved in between your legs holding you there, “We do have food at home…”
You blushed as he breathed heavily on your ear, “…w-we do…”
“But it would probably be rude to leave right?” He whispered as he kissed your neck.
“Mmm…” Your eyes shut as you cleared your throat, “Uh…Ma probably would not…uh…”
“What was that?” He nipped your collar bone.”
“Oh god…Hades…” You rasped out putting your hands on his shoulders, “…she would be very upset.”
He chuckled before he gave you a peck on the lips releasing you, “Then I suppose we need to go inside.”
You nodded as you let the small breeze cool you off as he crawled up. He held his hand down to you and you accepted, “You have got to stop putting me in these positions when we are here…”
“I suppose I just feel enough at home here to put you in any position without caring too much.” He smirked at your face turning bright red as he slid the door open for you hearing your mother yelling for them to hurry up.
Meedia stared at the gate holding her breath for a long time before feeling the rumble beneath her feet. A wicked smile fell across her features as she pushed the door open, “Finally…”
Long withered fingers grasped the door for support before a pair of golden eyes darkened from rage met hers. Quickly, his grip on the door was replaced with her throat the sound of dragging chains echoing against the prison walls, “Tell me…everything…”
Meedia’s eyes widened in fear as she was lifted off the ground, “…Y-yes…I-I will…”

All hail the new queen... - 17 (Hades Original Story)
You fought your way through the maze of the underworld to make a deal with the King…intrigued the lonely king listens…
Part One Part Two Part Three Part Four Part Five Part Six Part Seven  Part Eight  Part Nine  Part Ten Part Eleven  Part TwelvePart Thirteen  Part Fourteen  Part Fifteen  Part Sixteen
Tumblr media
After doing a quick run around and saying hello to everyone, helping your mom dice some tomatoes, you quickly made your way back to the garage. Hades had given you such an adorable look of pure ‘please help me’ that you had to make sure he was alright.
You came back out wiping your hands on a dish towel and saw him with a beer in hand talking to the other men of the party. He looked completely different then his normal self, and you didn’t like it. You told him to dress down and he did, but man…you missed his suits. The beer just took it too far…you weren’t even sure if he liked beer…
Everyone seemed intent on his words and it made you wonder if he’d used his godly charm on them. You had asked him not to unless either of you slipped up, but you knew he’d been pretty nervous about this whole situation despite denying it every time you asked him.
You stood there watching him speak with hands a little before everyone laughed aloud. You took the opportunity to walk over and give him an out if he needed one, “Hey, what grand story were you telling this time?”
“Oh, just the one about my brothers, Zack and Phillip, crashed through Zack’s wall wrestling and how Hannah reacted so poorly and then somehow I was wrapped up in the story of how it all started to begin with, so in the end all three of us ended up fixing the wall.” You smirked at him knowing exactly who you were talking about, but had no idea to what incident he was referring to. Thankfully, Hades clued you in, “You cousin Leo, regaled us how your brother and he decided to go swimming and dive off the roof but instead had to fix the chimney when they pulled it down. They asked if I had done anything like that.”
You put your arm around his back like a normal couple would do. You felt him tense only briefly before relaxing into your embrace putting his arm over your shoulders, “I do remember that, Papa was angry. It took them all summer to fix it.”
“It seemed logical that roping the chimney and scaling it would work for two fifteen-year olds.” Leo shrugged as your other cousins punched his arm and ruffled his hair laughing.
“Well gentleman, the ladies are restless and would like to meet my date, can I steal him for a while?” You quirked an eyebrow looking at them all.
“Oh no…Nick, it’s a trap.” Your uncle waved at him to stay, “You won’t come back they’ll rope you into all of their lists.”
The rest of the laughed but didn’t disagree as you laced your fingers with his walking toward the door. Hades set his beer down on a work bench nodding to all of them, “I don’t know, might not be so bad, I’ll get a better portion if I get on the ladies’ good side, right?”
You giggled as you pulled him inside stopping in the entry hallway where they could be alone for a moment. You looked up at him in the small space, “How are you doing?”
You watched him take in a deep breath before he nodded, “Your family is very animated.”
“Yes, as most Greeks are. We love to be expressive, but are you okay?” You squeezed his hand.
“I’m doing alright.” He smiled at you as children ran in from outside pushing you toward him. He grabbed you around the waist pulling you close so you wouldn’t be trampled by the laughing parade.
You stared into his eyes for a moment as heat began to rise on the back of your neck. His eyes were so blue right now as you felt a tingling sensation on your arm, “Sorry…”
“Don’t be…” He whispered keeping you close to him still.
The magnetism you felt in that moment was undeniable and you were disappointed when you heard your aunts calling your name, “Coming!”
You stepped away adjusting your dress a little, smoothing it out before looking back to him, “You might have wanted to keep that drink, ‘cause this is where the fun really begins.”
His eyes widened a little as you brought him through the house. From fear? From panic You would never know as you showed him around as you went. It was an older retro house, and the décor hadn’t really left the 70s, but it was home even with all the strange angles and walls covered in pictures of every generation.
You brought him into the living room were the ladies sat drinks in hand. They all looked up at you as you stood with him. Instantly their eyes widened, and mouths drop openly slightly at the sight of him.
‘Damn straight, and about time.’ You thought to yourself with satisfaction, ‘Now leave me alone you harpies…’
“Everyone, this is Nick.” You smiled putting a hand on Hades arm.
Your mother stood up walking over to him smiling, “I remember you. You were Jonah’s doctor.”
Hades eyes widened in surprise as your mother pulled him into a tight hug, “Oh…uh…yes, I was.”
“I can’t ever repay for what you did for my boy. You gave him back to us.” You could see some tears in her eyes as she kissed his cheek several times.
“I was just doing my job…” He looked down to her before looking over to you, “Actually, it was Y/N, who brought me the case. If she hadn’t, I wouldn’t have done anything.”
You smiled at him as he boasted for you, “Well you made an impression that first visit to the clinic. I had to try everything…”
He reached down taking your hand, “I’m not complaining in the least.”
You mother clapped her hands together suddenly bringing them to her lips kissing them toward Hades, “And now you’re making an honest woman of my daughter.”
“Mama…” You blushed instantly embarrassed by her antics, “people don’t talk like that anymore.”
“Oh hush, I’m your mother.” She smiled at you looking back to Hades, “Nick please come sit down, Y/N, get him a drink.”
“I’m alright…” He looked at you as your mother started dragging him toward the couch. This time he did not let go of your hand like before. He was not going to be left alone again it seemed.
You squeezed his hand following him. You perched yourself on the armrest as he sat next to your mother. She began to grill him on every topic. Profession, childhood, parents, siblings, past relationships, current relationship, future relationship…
You were mortified, but every time Hades answered, he did so beautifully. Every answer was crafted in a way that told the truth while keeping their charade up. He was truly wonderful, and you were going to have to repay him somehow. Especially as he weaved his answer for the last question.
“Well, Ana, I know Y/N and I haven’t been dating more than a few months.” He rested his hand on your knee looking up to you smiling, “But I can honestly say, she has made me a better person. She brings clarity to my decisions that I didn’t know I needed, and I hope that I make her as happy as she makes me.”
You took his hand giving it a squeeze as the room buzzed how he should have been a politician. If they only knew that he was in his own way. If they only knew who they sat with, would they fall down prostrate asking for forgiveness? You doubted it and you didn’t care about what the hens clucked about in that moment. You were just focused on what he said thinking to yourself as you basked in his very presence, “Hades, do you mean it?”
Your eyes widened instantly when you heard his voice in your head as he lifted your hand to his lips kissing your fingers as he stared into your eyes, “Every word.”
Your heart thumped loudly in your ears as heat just burst through body. Your lips parted slightly as your free hand began absently fixing your hair. What was happening to you today? You swore the curse of the Underworld must have followed you here because you felt like your emotions were at eleven on a scale of ten.
“Y/N, you should go introduce Nick to Gigi. She’s in her room. I’m sure she’d welcome a new friend.” Your mother told you as she and a few aunts stood up, “Then come join us in the kitchen to serve everything up.”
“Right, will do.” Hades was to his feet first offering his hand to you. You took it as you licked your lips staring up at him as everyone else moved from the room, “Did…did you…”
He leaned down pressing his mouth to your ear whispering, “Every single word.”
His face came back into view. Not only had he heard you, but you heard him. You chalked it up to being bonded to him for the moment, but the idea that you could do that was…exhilarating and terrifying. What else had he’d heard from you over these few months?
Your face flushed a deep red at all the thoughts he may have heard as you took him down another hall past the kitchen to a length that only held doors. You passed all of them coming the last one that was opened slightly.
You stopped turning to him, “Gigi…she’s gotten sick over the last few years and…well she doesn’t talk anymore, but she’s still knows you’re there. So just…for few minutes we’re going to visit with her. It’s okay to be a little awkward.”
“I understand.” He nodded before following you into a room covered in old Greek runes and a small alter burning incense. You could tell by the way he looked at everything he recognized all the detail Gigi had put into it.
In the center of the room sat your grandmother in a wheelchair. She had a blanket over her lap as she sat a little slumped staring off to where you didn’t know. You hoped someplace happy. It always broke your heart to see her like this.
“Gigi…” He followed you to a small love seat next to her, “I wanted you to meet someone really special to me.”
Her expression and eyes never changed even as you took her hand in yours. You sighed closing your eyes for a moment before looking at him. He gave you a warm smile of encouragement. You knew no one else was down this way to overhear, so you took a deep breath looking back to your grandmother.
“This Hades, Gigi.” You felt him shift next to you as you spoke softly, “He saved Jonah’s life and in exchange I…I’ve become his consort... I wouldn’t have been able to believe in him, if it wasn’t for you.”
You looked at Hades who stared at you surprised for a moment before looking to your grandmother, “…hello…Gigi…”
You giggled a little, “I know it’s a little strange, but I know she can hear us even if she can’t respond.”
“It’s not that…Hold on.” He stood up looking out into the hall before he shut the door. He turned back to you taking off his jacket tossing it to the couch and began rolling up his sleeves.
“What are you doing?” You looked at him worried.
“The faith in this room is something I haven’t felt in a long time, and she believes in all of us. I can hear her right now. She says that dress looks very flattering.” You stared at him eyes wide as he knelt down in front of her, “It’s so uncommon, that I believe it’s time she be rewarded for her diligence in this changing world.”
Looking into Gigi’s eyes before he smiled he spoke with such attention you felt a lump in your throat, “Kyra, can you hear me?”
You watched as your Gigi blinked once. Hades reached out taking both of her hands holding them to his face as he gently placed his forehead against hers. Gigi’s eyes shut and you watched them both carefully in the still room.
Finally, you saw a tear roll down her face as Hades smiled again. Worry filled your chest, you trusted him, but you weren’t ready to say goodbye to her yet, “Hades…”
“It’s okay.” He whispered reaching out taking your hand instinctively. A blinding flash filled your vision and suddenly you were in a wide-open field. You looked around confused until you felt a pair of familiar hands grab your shoulders. You looked back seeing Hades, “Welcome to Elysium.”
He pointed out away from them. You followed his direction and saw a couple standing near a tree. They were locked in each other’s gaze. The young man held the woman’s face in his hands as he smiled. They were so happy…so in love…
“She missed him so much…but she said she’s not ready to be here yet.” Hades spoke softly to you helping you calm down, “It wasn’t hard to find Atticus though, their love is strong and even in death he stays true to her.”
Your hands went to your mouth as tears came to your eyes until you finally spoke, “That’s…”
“Yes…” He nodded coming to stand by your side taking your hand in his, “That’s your grandfather, your Papa.”
“You did this for her.” You looked up at him tears falling down your face, “Hades…thank you…thank you so much…She…I…”
He brought his hands up to your face brushing away your tears. You never felt so safe, so cherished, “No crying. I did this because I know how much she means to you. You mean just as much to her.”
You stared into his eyes felling overwhelmed. He cared for you enough to allow this. You knew it probably wasn’t something he often did, or even if it was allowed.
He kissed your forehead before embracing you tightly which only made things worse. You felt so vulnerable around him sometimes and today around your family…and then this…how you were you supposed to not cry?
“Y/N?” A familiar voice without its normal rasp touched your ears, “Is that really my little bird?”
You looked over as your Papa and Gigi walked up. They looked so young, just like many of their pictures of being in Greece. You nodded wiping the tears away as Hades released you, “Papa?”
“I know I look a little different…” He laughed but threw open his arms and you ran forward as he hugged you tightly, “But I still know how to hug my favorite grand daughter…Gigi, told me what you did for your family. Silly girl…always running in with your heart on your sleeve.”
“Shush…you’ll insult him.” Gigi slapped his arm and you couldn’t help but laugh as he winced away still holding you, “Forgive him Lord Hades…”
“He isn’t wrong.” Hades smiled stepping closer to you when you let go, “She did just that, ran into my temple, heart out, with no care for herself, and I accepted it.”
“Gigi…” You looked at her so young and vibrant. You choked up feeling emotions you didn’t know you still harbored. Your grandmother was the only one who listened to you and understood, “I…”
“Oh dear.” She reached forward pulling you to herself, “I am so proud of you. So, so proud. We all are, though I know you don’t hear it enough. Always outshined, but I see you even if I can’t say anything, I want you to remember that. I love you.”
“And I am always thinking of you. All of you.” Your grandfather touched your shoulder looking over to Hades, “I think it’s time for you to go sir…”
You looked over to Hades seeing sweat dripping down his forehead as he smiled shaking his head, “Take your time.”
“Sir, I know the laws and you may be able to bend them as this is your domain but living souls shouldn’t be here.” Atticus looked to Kyra, “I miss you so much…but I will be here when you’re ready.”
Kyra stepped up to him kissing him. It was enough to get you crying again as you stepped back to Hades. He took your hand and whispered, “Shut your eyes…”
You obeyed feeling a cool breeze brush against your skin until the familiar smell of your grandmother’s incense filled your senses. You opened your eyes seeing a sweating Hades staring into your Gigi’s eyes a smile firmly planted on her face as he spoke softly, “Thank you, Kyra…”
You sat concerned and confused as he placed her hands back in her lap. He leaned back sitting on the floor running a hand through his hair. You checked on Gigi first wiping the tears from her face before you sat on the floor in front of Hades, “Are you okay?”
“I’ll be fine.” He smiled at you taking in a deep breath in, “Your grandfather was right, I shouldn’t have done that, but for one so devoted how could I not.”
“Hades…I…” You stared at him unable to find the words to express how much this meant to you.
He shook his head as he kept smile, “It’s okay…I’d do it again just smile for me the way you did there.”
You felt a whirlwind of emotions beating against your chest as you sat there with him. Unable to contain it any longer you leaned forward kissing him. You felt him fall back a little catching himself with one arm as the other landed on your side.
You expected him to pull away from you as your hands landed on his chest. To finally remember that you were a mortal and that he wanted nothing to do with you in that manner. That you were just a companion like you had originally agreed to be. Not his consort. Not his wife… just Y/N.
But he didn’t. His lips moved against yours as he pushed back gaining his balancing. His other hand found your neck keeping you were you desired to be until he was done with you. At which point he rested his forehead against yours nudging his nose with his, “Is it too early to go home now?”
You laughed a little shaking your head, “Don’t tease me.”
“I would never.” He whispered against your jaw before he sighed, “But this is a conversation for another time…”
Licking his lips, he helped right yourself and you both stood up in front of your Gigi. You blushed clearing your throat, “I’m so sorry, Gigi…”
Hades reached down touching Gigi’s hand, “She says it’s the most entertainment she’s had in a while.”
You laughed again before leaning down kissing her cheek, knowing that is exactly how she would have responded, “I love you, I’ll come visit more alright? Maybe even drag him a long with me.”
“I won’t mind.” Hades told you as he put his jacket back on.
You stepped out into the hall with him slowly walking back down toward the kitchen. You swallowed looking at your hands, “Well…we…”
He stopped you putting a hand arm and pushed your chin up to make you look at him. He smiled a little before leaning capturing your lips for a second time. You trembled as you reached out grabbing onto his jacket as you pressed on to your toes to push into the kiss.
He parted away from you again brushing your hair back into place for you. His eyes were bright like stars in the sky as he spoke, “You taste like sunshine and I just want to bask in it.”
You swallowed nodding dumbly in a haze from the last fifteen minutes of events. He took your hand in his kissing your finger as he led you down the hall to everyone. He very calmly told them that he was being called away for work. You said your goodbyes promising to not be such a stranger.
You stepped into the car looking back at the house seeing your father stepping down the driveway. You felt a tightness in your chest as he smiled and waved at you as you backed out of the driveway. He blew you a kiss like he always did and of course you caught it putting your fist to your heart.
Hades looked at you as he drove off taking your other hand in his, “Everything alright?”
You kept your hand to your heart nodding slowly, before looking to him with a smile, “Yeah…everything’s good…”

Hades sighed adjusting his glasses as he stared at the paperwork that had only been piling up on his desk recently for the past few days. Zeus did not find a diplomatic solution to Poseidon’s request and souls were arriving left and right for days since Poseidon released the storm weeks ago.
To make matters worse, he only wanted to help you with you prep for the MCAT. You were entirely too understanding to him coming home to late to help, and for whatever reason you only insisted to having dinner with him to make up for it.
He let out a heavy sigh tossing the paperwork down with his glasses. He was going to have to have a talk with the both of them and Demeter. The devastation was just too much this time.
“Hades?” He looked up seeing you poke your head into his office making his heart skip.
“Y/N…hi… uh yes? Come in…” He sat up eagerly as he straightened his desk.
You smiled at him as you walked over, “Don’t worry about the mess, I just had a quick question I needed to run by you.”
“Okay…” His brow came together with concern. You looked nervous as you wrung your hands in front of him, “is everything alright?”
“Yes! Yes, actually it’s quite nice I just…this is a strange situation…and you can totally say no. It would definitely be perfectly acceptable, and I would totally understand…” You rambled for a moment.
He stared at you for a moment before standing up coming around the desk to stand in front of you. He took your hands in his, “Y/N, you are not making much sense right now. So, why don’t you ask your question first, and then we’ll decide what I do?”
He smiled at you trying to put you at ease as you nodded slowly, “Right…of course…okay I don’t know a better way to put it, so here goes nothing…um…w-will you please be my date to my cousin’s birthday?”
“Your cousin’s birthday?” His eyebrow shot up. He was expecting something…well he didn’t know what he was expecting really, but it certainly wasn’t this.
“Everyone is going to be there… she’s turning 3 and I guess that’s a special number for out family…but the fact of the matter is if I show up without a date everyone is just going to be up my ass about when I’m getting married and try to set me up with some Greek boy they know…” You squeezed his hands as you went on.
“Okay.” He answered you as you continued the tirade.
“Then it’ll just go to how long I have to reproduce and how it’s my duty to the family to continue the great Grecian lines…”
“I’ll go…” He smiled a little as you kept babbling.
“And I know it’s not really your thing, and I know you’re really busy…” You kept going as you looked everywhere but his face.
“Y/N!” He let go of your hands replacing them with your face as he smiled at you, “I’ll go, it’s not a problem.”
“It’s not? You’re sure?” You stared into his eyes, “Because I really won’t be offended if you thought it was beneath you.”
“Nothing that has to do with you is beneath me.” He smiled at you, “We talked about this…”
You looked way as he took his hands back. After the Titanomachy Celebration he did as he promised and sat down with you to talk about your position in the Underworld.
“It’s not necessarily a misconception.” He told you has he handed you a cup of coffee, “The deal we made is in a way a marriage…and the way the deal was originally worded presents it as such as well.”
“You didn’t propose or anything…” You sighed holding the cup between your hands, “I don’t understand…”
“It’s the old ways…I’ll have your daughter as my wife, and I’ll give you three goats and two cows.” He sat down on the coffee table across from you, “In this instance, I gave your brother his mobility back. I presented the offer of…of wanting you…and you accepted when I promised you that your request would be fulfilled.”
You stared into his eyes for a long time chewing on your bottom lip, “…okay…so what does it exactly…entail? Mean for me? I mean am I supposed to do things for you…for the Underworld?”
He could see a little heartbreak in your eyes. He could imagine being told your married might do that. Some people dream of having a wedding and a loving relationship to look forward to. He wondered if you might have been one of those people.
He took in a deep breath, “Uh nothing really…I don’t expect you to fulfill any part of it. It wasn’t part of our deal, despite the technicality that yes…we are in a way married. I wouldn’t expect you to do more then what we’ve already discussed.”
“…Hades…” You looked down into the mug. There was something the way you said his name that made a knot form in his throat, “anyone would be lucky to be your wife. I’m just afraid that I’m not…worthy…to hold that title.”
You looked back up to his face as his mouth dropped open, “Y/N…I wouldn’t have ever brought it up if I didn’t think weren’t.”
“W-what do you mean by that?” You stammered sitting up a little as his words settled over you.
“I think you know exactly what I mean?” He stood up leaning down kissing your cheek, “But as I’ve told you before, I will never lay a hand on you, or make you uncomfortable. But I can’t deny that I feel something for you, something more than just…friendship.”
You stared up at him as he went on, “I promise you, we would be equals in this…if you see our standing in that fashion…I would never hold myself greater then you.”
“Hades you could have anyone…I mean you had the most beautiful goddess I have ever seen so far as a wife…you can’t really see me equal…” You trailed off shaking your head.
“But I do see you, and for the first time in over a thousand years…my vision is clear, and that’s because of you. You bring me clarity.” He told you quietly. He wished he could show you everything he saw in you and show you that you were just beginning to blossom. It was what he loved about you, that you seemed to grow in his presence when most things withered, “I don’t know how to make you believe me…it’s something I know mortals struggle with, but I hope one day you will see it.”
“Right…right…” You nodded again, “I’m sorry…this whole thing is still…”
“I understand.” He sighed a little, “You don’t have to apologize.”
“Sor…I hate these conversations. I just go in circles.” You rolled your eyes a little as a smile showed up on your face.
“So when is this celebration?” He leaned back on his desk crossing his arms.
“Saturday.” You informed him, “It’s nothing fancy, but we should probably just go has a couple…not you know…married…my mom would probably kill me and the ask you to bring me back…it would just be awkward and a hot mess. The God of the Underworld just snapping his fingers making it happen. Then there would more questions…”
“They would probably ask why you’re too Greek at the point right?” He smirked as you laughed, “Saturday it is then.”
“Thank you.” You smiled to him, “I mean it, it will be nice to go home and see family.”
He frowned a little, “You can go see them whenever…you do know that, right?”
“I know, I just made this choice to keep my distance.” You sighed, “There’s a lot to my family and all this being real, like really real. I think the only person who would understand would be my Gigi. Everyone else would probably have me committed.”
“So…” He pushed off the desk deciding to take a chance. He slid his hand into yours watching your face turn red quickly, “I assume I will be Dr. Aides again, and you are…a student I met and found attractive?”
“Uh…w-well I mean…I guess…” You nodded a little, “T-that should work…They know that we were acquaintances.”
“Ah yes…I remember now.” He stepped closer to you gently cupping your cheek with is other hand, “You were a student visiting at one point for classes. Trying to figure out a specialty. I liked you then, of course, but you were a student and I shouldn’t push my luck, but then you came back, this time with a case. Your brother…”
“I couldn’t refuse. It was fate.” He smirked a little, “Of course after a few follow ups with your brother’s physicians, making sure he was recovering alright, I asked you out. You accepted and the rest is…well we don’t necessarily have to go into details.”
He looked down into your eyes wide listening to him. Finally, you broke into a big smile as you laughed, “I was wondering if your dramatic flair would ever show itself…”
“I was once very into the theater. Shakespeare had even tried to sell me his soul once, but I told him to write that down instead. Draw from his desperation…” He smirked at you as his thumb absently brushed your cheek. Your blush only deepened as his hand left your face, “Does it seem like a reasonable story if I’m asked how we met?”
“It’s certainly better then telling them that I ate a mushroom and practically drank swamp tar to find a doorway to the underworld…” You made a face remembering the ritual.
“I would assume so…” He chuckled taking a small step away sensing his chance may have been missed, “We should think of a name for me. I don’t think Hades, King of the Underworld is going to fly.”
“Could be what your students call you?” You smirked as you poked fun at him, “Do you have a preference?”
“I pride myself in my name, but I suppose it doesn’t really matter.” He crossed his arms looking at you, “Georg?”
You scrunched your face up shaking your head, “You don’t look like a Georg.”
“Arron?” He quirked an eyebrow, “Arron Aides.”
“Two As bad…bad…they’ll think your parents hate you.” He chuckled as you shook your head.
“What do I look like then?” He turned around hearing the flutter of more paperwork showing up on his desk.
He glanced up as he put on his glasses seeing you moving around his desk. You had your hands behind your back as you stared at him a beautiful smile lit up your face when you spoke, “You look like Hades.”
He felt the tips of his ears get hot before he cleared his throat, “Well…I…certainly appreciate that, but I’m don’t want to scare anyone away…”
“I’ll think on it. We have a couple days.” You glanced at the paperwork on the desk frowning, “Is…”
Hades moved around the desk quickly, “Don’t worry about it. It will work out.”
You looked up into his eyes sighing a little. He’d tried very hard to keep you away from all this but you were inquisitive, which is a great quality for a doctor. Not so great when you live with a god sometimes, “Just remember to take a break, okay? I don’t want to drag you out for dinner again, but I’ll do it.”
He raised his hands up surrendering as you pointed in his face, “I’ll do my best.”
“Good.” You smiled at him as you stepped back around the desk eyeing him. Your eyes brightened suddenly when you stopped, “Nicholas Aides, Nick, it’s definitely not you, but I think it might be as close as we get.”
“Nick, I’ll remember to answer to it.” He chuckled a little as you started out.
“If not, I’ll just start calling you babe, you’re bound to answer eventually.” He looked up at you as you left. You’d gotten feisty the past couple days, saying small things in passing that would catch him off guard. Flirty little things.
It started with just mentioning his eyes over dinner.
“That’s it! I finally figured it out.” He looked up at you staring intently fork stabbed into your pasta.
“You’ve discovered something in the linguini?” He raised an eyebrow curiously.
“No, no, there’s been something different about you recently.” You put your fork down inching forward on your seat as you stared at him, “Your eyes.”
“I have two of them, yes.” He delighted in your noise of frustration. He looked back to his own plate swirling another portion onto his fork, “What about them?”
“They’re blue.” His eyes shot up to your again, “They’re gorgeous and mesmerizing. I just…I know Persephone told me they were blue once, but they’ve always just been this majestic violet with a blue shadow. I can only recall them looking like this one other time.”
“I…uh…Y/N, where is this going?” He set his fork down reaching for his drink as his throat began to tighten.
“I was told it means you’re happy.” You rested your chin on your palm as he took a long drink, “I’m just wondering if that was true?”
He was very happy. Happier than he’d been in hundreds of years. He felt like himself again and he knew it was because of your presence. That and a few good hard nudges from his youngest brother and his ex-wife.
Now pulling up into a subdivision on a sunny Saturday afternoon, he felt terrified. Is this how mortals felt when they met someone’s family? Tight chest, sweaty palms, and heart racing?
“Hades?” You reached over taking his hand after he parked, “Are you alright?”
He smiled swallowing down the burning sensation he felt in his throat, “Yes, of course, and it’s Nick, remember?”
“Right, well, Nick, when you want to go just let me know. You have the best profession for excuses and being pulled away.” You winked at him before reaching in the back of the Mustang grabbing a small gift bag.
He quickly got out adjusting his sports jacket. You told him to dress casually and it was awkward to him. He liked suits and being in jeans and sneakers just seemed not him, but it did seem to be Nick. He had to keep reminding himself that, that he was Nick, spine specialist, not Hades, King of the Underworld.
He met you at the front of the car and smiled at you when you put your arm around his back and like a fluid motion he put his arm around your shoulder, “So remind me again…Jonah is your brother, Gigi is your grandmother…”
“Chris is my father, and my mother’s name is Oriana, but everyone calls her Ana.” You looked up at him, “You don’t have to be nervous, you’re already a winner by everyone’s standard. You’re Greek and a doctor, and if they only knew the truth…”
Your giggle set him at ease a little as they walked up toward the open garage. Several children ran by with balloons and toys as traditional Greek music could be heard playing through a stereo inside. As they walked in several gentlemen all stood to their feet, none looking very happy.
Finally, and older man with dark hair took a step forward a serious look on his face as he looked between the both of you. Hades had never felt so scrutinized before; it was enough that he took his arm back from your shoulders. You glanced up at him confused.
Finally, the man looked to only throwing his hands out, “Y/N…my baby girl!”
“Dad.” You smiled at him giving him a big hug.
“It has been too long; I don’t like that school keeps you from home so much.” He pulled away looking at your face, “You’re working too hard.”
“Dad, you don’t become a doctor without a lot of hard work.” You smiled again as he hugged you another time, “Dad? Dad, you’re suffocating me.”
“As it should be.” He told you giving you another squeeze for good measure before letting you go, “So is this the other reason you are too busy to come home?”
Hades froze slightly when all eyes landed on him. He swallowed looking to you for help, “Uh…”
“Dad…” Your tone told him that you were telling your father to play nice as you stepped over to him looping your arm through his, “This is Nick. Nicholas Aides, and he is my boyfriend.”
Hades watched this man, who was a head shorter than him, walk over with a presence that would rival Titans. He stared him directly in the eye before he smiled extending his hand, “Sounds like a strong name, are you from the mother country?”
Hades took his hand firmly shaking it, “Yes, I have family over there.”
“This is good, you’ll stay out here with us then while Y/N goes in and helps her mother.” And just like that he was stolen away from the only security he felt in the open world and when he looked back for help you were only smiling at him as you stepped inside.
