With the legendary edition of Halo: Reach, one of the bonus items was a top secret ONI packet. Padded. Black. Sealed with the ONI emblem.

Inside was a really cool piece of game memorabilia: Dr. Halsey's personal journal. It included things like news printouts, a scattering of Spartan-II files, and her ONI ID badge.

I have a copy because a college friend dug one up on ebay as a birthday gift soon after release, when they were pretty available.

Luckily, someone uploaded scans of it and shared them on Reddit.

I've reuploaded those scans.

Okay okay okay - y'all

I had clicked into this fic bc I had just finished Halo: Reach for the fourth time and I was craving some of that good team dynamic content (we were robbed, I tell you!) and when I say I was so, so, so pleasantly surprised???? No, that's an understatement. I was working at the time and had kept telling myself to wait, to save it for later, and I only barely managed to do that.

So, what does this fic entail? Why should you even bother clicking into it when you haven't even played the Halo games, let alone Halo: Reach?

That's the beauty of it, you see. You don't really need much context to enjoy this fic (but it does make it more enjoyable if you know the characters). They're a team of Spartans (enhanced, armored super soldiers) that were deployed on Planet Reach. The team's name is Team Noble. Newest member: Noble Six (your character, in-game). Noble Six's face is never shown, which allows you to interpret them however you see fit. In this fic, the author went with their own interpretation and made him albino. Reach is currently being invaded by an enemy alien race, the Covenant. If you intend to play the game and care about spoilers (the game was released in 2010, folks...), then I suggest holding off until you have done so - as this could be classified as a 'fix-it' fic.

This fic contains a large number of my favorite tropes. I will always be a thirsty bitch for found family and protective team dynamics. On my rating scale (which will fluctuate and be inconsistent, like me), I put this at: Bookmarked and downloaded to my Kindle library (yes, seriously).

Nowwwwww, I facetiously mentioned at the bottom of this post about the Halo: Reach achievement:

To do that, you have to go under or close to par time on pretty much each level ON LEGENDARY.

I have beaten Reach on Legendary but it probably took me closer to 30 hours than 3 because I did my slow, methodical strategies to get through. I did the par time achievement by running past everything I could on Easy. Can I combine the two successfully?

I decided to give the first level "Winter Contingency" a try (after watching some Youtube vids on getting this achievement, of course 😉). Par time is 15 minutes.

That was my third try, the first was 16 and some minutes, the second got it to 15 and some and then that one got under the par by 32 seconds! I should note that this is considered one of the easiest levels to do on Legendary and the guide I watched by the ever-awesome Halo Completionist did it under 12 minutes and you're going to need every spare second you can scrap together to give you a buffer for some of the long, difficult levels. But still!

It's silly, I know, but I feel so proud of me! I'm an old lady (well, middle-aged, if I'm being generous 😜) playing Halo with shaky hands but I made under par time on Legendary! 🥳🥳🥳

PS - Tried it again and got 13:55!

Kig-Yar Appreciation Post Compared to the other members of the Covenant, the Kig-Yar have been the most unique due to having three distinct subtypes throughout the Halo games.

We have the Ruuhtians featured in Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Reach and Halo Infinite, the T'vaoans featured in Halo Reach and the Ibie'shans featured in Halo 4 and Halo 5 Guardians.

Shame we didn’t have all three suptypes in Halo Infinite.

Oh by the way: My favourite subtype are the Ibie'shans. 😝

Did You Know the Plasma Launcher returned in Halo 5: Guardians? On March on Stormbreak, a coding oversight caused some Grunts to spawn with the weapon. When used by a player, the weapon lacked a HUD icon and a 1st person model, and its projectiles were unfinished.
