I’m thinking about how Angel/Anthony is both the second son AND a twin. Some families with inheritances have that whole “heir and spare” crap, and if that was the case with this family he’d always be seen as secondary to Arackniss.

In previous stuff after the spider bros that Viv released we see that Arackniss is the more “competent” one who presumably carries on the family business, while Angel is the disappointment.

And with being a twin, he may have felt/been treated like an “add on” to Molly. Something they didn’t necessarily want or plan for but are now “stuck with.”

Add the fact he was gay in the 1930s in a male dominant environment (and possibly had an eye condition? I know a while back there was that one drawing that mentioned that his eyes look different because Arackniss hit him before he died, idk if that holds up or not so I’m mentioning it in parenthesis cause it’s not expanded upon.)

What if the reason he was so willing to let go of “Anthony”, the reason he holds onto the persona of “Angel Dust” isn’t just because Val wants him to, but because he really doesn’t see the point of being “Anthony.”

If he was told his whole like he was a disappointment, superfluous, and then is thrust into a world where he is valued by someone, wouldn’t he want to hold onto that? Valentino may have told Angel all he’s good for is sex, but at least he’s good for SOMETHING.

(And the whiplash of being at the hotel. Where they don’t want him for his body. So maybe at the beginning he doesn’t try cause what’s the point? He tried at Anthony in his life and failed. But then is slowly shown that no, he is part of their family and they like him as his true self.)

Like I've said, Arackaniss and Molly found Angel's body. Thing is, Arackaniss and Molly found Angel before he died. He was barely there but he was still alive. Molly freaked out, she immediately ran out of the room to fing medical help. Arackaniss ran to Angel immediately. He set his head up on his lap, he wanted him to be stable. He didn't need to search for a bullet wound, he knew what Angel did. Angel was barley alive but he could make small sentences. Arackaniss and Angel got into a big fight before Angel overdoses. Angel was using his last words to tell Arackaniss that he was sorry. Sorry for the fight, sorry for being a bad younger brother, sorry for the messes Arackaniss had to clean up. Arackaniss shushed him, telling him that he was his best friend and that he did everything right. As a husband, as a father, as a little brother. Arackniss's last words to Angel was that he loved him so much. Angel didn't hear him, he already died. Arackaniss broke down immediately. He just craddled Angel's head and cried, repeating that he loves him so much. Whe Molly ran back in the room with a paramedics, she saw Arackaniss and Angel's dead body. She never let herself forget she wasn't with her twin brother when he died.

Molly called Angel a faggot when he came out. She didn't mean too. It was genuinely just a slip of the tongue. Angel never forgot it though.

Angel gave Molly the scar on her eyebrow when they got into a fight. Angel gave himself one as a apology.

Molly went out alot quicker than Angel did. She shot herself in the side of the head. Arackaniss heard the shot in the middle of the night. He also found her dead body.

Arackaniss killed himself after Molly's funeral. He couldn't stand being without his family.

Molly was never the nicest to Isabella because she knew that Isabella was just a child that was made to make Carmilla and Angel look straight. She wasn't outright mean to Isabella but she was no means a loving aunt.

Henroin was the only one able to comfort Angel after Carmilla died. He pulled Angel close to him and let him cry over his shoulder.

Angel and Molly tried to joke about the death of their mother once so they could cope with the loss. They were about 12 and genuinely weren't trying to make fun of her, they were still upset they never had a mom. Arackaniss freaked the fuck out and screamed at them. He accidentally, in a fit if anger punched Angel in the face. Considering Arackaniss was 19 and much bigger than Angel, he knocked his tooth out. Angel has to get his gold tooth.

Henroin sometimes has resentful thoughts about Molly and Angel. Angel and Molly were a high risk pregnancy which ended up killing their mother. Henroin sometimes wishes that his wife survives instead. He immediately gets sick thinking about his children's death like this.

Henroin later found out in death from Molly that Angel was gay. This caused a breakdown. He didn't understand what he did that made Angel feel like he had to hide this part of him and create a marriage of convenience.

Molly and Angel have these small rabbit plushies. Angel is a light pink while Molly's is light orange. They were given to them by Henroin. Arackaniss has a light green one. Henroin later gave Isabella a light purple one. It's a small family tradition. When Angel died Molly slept with the two plushies, inconsolable for weeks. She refused to separate them. (This was her way of coping with the fact she wasn't with Angel when he died.) Later when Molly died, Arackaniss made sure that Angel's, Molly's, Isabella's, and his plushie went with him. He wanted the family to be together.

Isabella doesn't remember Angel. She's really young and considering how long she's been dead. She knows she had a dad she just doesn't know where his is.

Isabella doesn't know Angel's in hell. This leads her to be really upset her dad isn't with her. She still waiting for her dad to come back to her and tell her everything will be okay.

Henroin used to sing a personal lullaby to Arackaniss, Angel, and Molly when they would have nightmares. Angel would go on to sing this to Isabella. When Isabella died, Arackaniss would sing it to him to help with his crying.

Molly used to do drugs with Angel. She did it as a solidarity, to make him feel like he wasn't alone.

I have a lot of thoughts on Henroin Ragno (Angel Dust’s dad) bc I know that on the Wiki it says Angel’s dad is homophobic and hates him and that’s literally it. Me personally? I HATE THAT. Yeah Angel probably was a disappointment to his gang leader dad, but there’s so much more to it than that??

Duh, he’s Angel’s dad. But imagine him as a father of a son, not just Angel Dust’s father

I believe that as much as Henri did say awful 1930’s Catholic Italian gang-esque things about Anthony's sexuality, or just ignore it point blank, the moment Anthony stumbled home one night with a black eye, heads rolled. That the moment anyone else in the gang said anything at all that even pertained to how Anthony dressed, Henri had them outside with a gun to their temple.

The small little things between dad and son, I want them to have that.

Just, just think about it like this:

I want a dad who, as frustrated as he is, can’t bring himself to kick his son out. So Anthony stays in the house until he’s in his thirties, and probably would’ve kept living there if he’d lived past that.

I want a dad who, for as much as he’d been taught by his own father and the Catholic priests back in Rome, couldn’t bring himself to beat the gay out of the kid he’d watched toddle around the floors of their cramped one bedroom back in the days when they couldn’t afford much. So for as many fights as they get into, Anthony never has to fear being hit.

I want Henri walking home from a shit day at work and finding his son in an alleyway, something bad on his chin and something worse powdering his nose, and he ignores the voice in his head telling him that this is wrong, all so very wrong, because Henri still has blood on his fists so really who is he to judge, so he just cleans the boy up and carries him home.

I want Anthony to want to buy a fur coat and Henri takes him to his favorite tailor, thinking he can finally get his son to dress more manishly, only for Anthony to absolutely fall in love with the most feminine fur Henri has ever seen. And as humiliating as it is for his favorite tailor to see this play out, Henri can’t say no to that face, so he pays and walks Anthony home and they snack on peanuts from the street carts and at the very least Henri is keeping his son from overdosing in a an alleyway for one more night, so who really cares what words are buzzing to fall from Henri’s tongue.

I want a dad who is not great but tries to love as best as he can. I want a dad who comes home with the usual greeting joke of “Still alive, Tony?” on his tongue, only to open his youngest son’s door and be hit with the ice cold realization that he will never hear a response to that question ever again.

"You're lucky you make me money!"

That line Valentino says to Angel Dust has been stuck in my head lately.

I saw a discussion on Reddit about Angel's acting skills, and one commentor shared a really interesting theory:

I'm a fan of the theory that in life, his Mafia family ran gay clubs (pretty much all the gay clubs were Mafia at that time given the laws) and they had him get close to important or wealthy individuals, get compromising evidence, like pictures of them having sex, and using it as mob blackmail material. That's DANGEROUS if you're not a very good actor who can improvise.

I think I like that theory too. Because it would be thematically appropriate to Angel's story, and make his situation with Valentino so much worse.

Maybe Anthony chose to come out as gay (well, "a homosexual") to his family, or maybe he was outed somehow. Either way, I wonder how such a tough Mafia family would have reacted. They could have rejected him...

...or, as the commentor suggests, they could have used it to their advantage. They could have let him act on his attraction to men, under the condition that it was done in a way that would benefit the family business.

I can imagine Anthony getting into an argument with his father, and Anthony's "homosexuality" being raised as a sticking point. I can imagine Anthony pushing his father's buttons and his father lashing out by shouting something like, "You're lucky you make me money!"

I can imagine Anthony's father being ashamed of his son, wanting to get rid of his son out of sheer disgust, but grudgingly not doing so because his son is useful to him.

I can imagine Anthony understanding all of that, just from hearing, "You're lucky you make me money!"

And then Angel hearing the same thing from Valentino would be extra levels of heartbreaking.

He didn't rejoin the family business in the afterlife. He went into sex work instead, because he had more freedom to do so. And I wonder if he fell in love with Valentino initially, and believed the moth demon loved him back.

But instead, he's hearing that same phrase again, in a very similar context: "I have killed bitches for less than this attitude you're giving me. You're lucky you make me money!"

And they do say there's no smoke without fire...

It would cement the idea that Angel's only asset is his ability to act sexy and bring in the cash. It would make Angel believe that he doesn't have anything else to offer. That people just want to use him. That he's a money spider, not a person, and certainly no-one with any intrinsic value.

It would make Angel believe that no-one could ever just love him for himself.

*Arackniss rolls his eyes and follows his father. He turns on Isabella's nightlight before shutting the door.*
