I've had multiple people this month imply or directly tell me that Achilles was a worse person than the other Greeks because he was a better soldier than they were and thus was involved in more killing/destruction, and I gotta say, this argument does not make any sense to me.

They were all there doing the same things for the same reason. I don't think being "good" at the talents your culture tells you are the most important talents to hold makes you a better or worse person morality-wise. Certainly none of the other Greeks had any issue accepting the booty Achilles brought home from his raids.

#the combo of my period coming and it being valentine's day AND tomorrow being my dad's birthday #AND the day after that being the 1 year anniversary of my nanna's death #AND the stress this current show has caused me really is not a good combination #i feel like i've been on the verge of tears for like 2 days at least. #i walked by my favorite bakery today and noticed their menu board advertising special valentine's day things #and i suddenly remembered that last year i had bought stuff from that bakery for my dad's birthday #including one of the special valentine's day things. but the happy memory of that birthday treat for dad #was wiped away less than 24 hours later by grief. and only just today. 363 days later. did i remember i did that. #my dad made a 'joke' a couple days ago. saying 'nanna decided after 60 years she'd had enough of me' #referencing the fact she died the day after his birthday. which is i guess a good step in the grief process #because i know he was grieving far more on his own than he was in front of me #but also it wasn't totally a joke. it was a joke yes. but like. not a joke. he's still hurting. #and just. life needs to stop lifing. and it needs to stop being so complicated. #especially mid-february like you're already cold and dark do you have to cause all these emotions over three days come on

#it stands out to me that in this first story Billy doesn’t tell Mr. Morris about Captain Marvel #in later issues it becomes that Billy is particularly associated with Captain Marvel #even though he does talk about other things on the radio #because he’s the one breaking all of the stories about Captain Marvel’s exploits #of which there are a lot #and I do remember the narration once saying that Billy carefully words his broadcasts to not reveal his true relationship to Captain Marvel #but that’s not actually maintained in his stories #they aren’t written in a way as to make it easy to remove the transformation as a part of the plot #and Billy’s concluding broadcast often has him referencing something that happened that relates to the true nature of their relationship #for example the last Captain Marvel panels I posted were from a story where Billy temporarily gets Cap’s powers while Cap loses them #and obviously there’s no way Billy could have told that story without acknowledging that they transform into each other #but the final panels are still Billy talking about how it was fun for him to be the one with the powers for that short time #his radio broadcasts are used as the framing device for his stories #and handling the character in this way doesn’t needlessly constrain his stories #and I don’t think it broke the suspension of disbelief for the kids back then #but it's interesting to see how that unique approach wasn't conceived immediately but formed over time #fawcett comics #billy batson #sterling morris #my posts #comic panels
