"Haha ASL Brothers haha more like American Sign Language" well, actually, YES. After the explosives that made Sabo lose his memory, he also started to have difficulties hearing and Dragon had to teach him ASL. He doesn't want to worry Luffy and Ace (he's alive. Shut up) when they meet again, so he doesn't say anything. But they start noticing he can't hear them well anymore and his fake smiles are too fake for his brothers not to notice it. So!!! Luffy tells Robin and Robin actually knows ASL?? And Marco does too, so Ace also has a teacher. Then, when they see each other again, Ace and Luffy start signing almost perfectly (almost. They're pretty clumsy and Sabo sometimes has a hard time trying to understand wtf they're trying to say). Sabo pretty much starts crying when this happens. Dumbass brothers that learned ASL for him. He loves them so much.

Dude these sources on hearing loss are going to have to stop being so relatable or I'm going to have to go back to the doctor

one funny thing about being diagnosed and starting treatment for the autoimmune stuff is that my response to test results is COMPLETELY different now. most of the testing i'm doing currently is to check for organ damage and assess my risk of future complications, so i no longer have to prove i'm sick or need help. i'm just learning Specifically How Sick I Am.
when i was seeking diagnosis, every normal blood test and imaging test was fucking Devastating. like i'd have a CBC panel come back totally fine and sob about it for Hours. when i finally tested positive for some antibodies that have scary lifelong implications, it was PARTY TIME, there was not a SINGLE downside. I WAS SO PSYCHED
now that i have meds prescribed and on-paper numbers proving i'm "really sick enough," the tests are much scarier. opened my chart with the new results today, saw that there was a❗️ by my urinalysis (indicating abnormalities), and my heart fucking DROPPED. turns out the abnormality was just from not getting a clear sample, my piss and kidneys and bladder and such are fine.
all the other tests came back without that telltale❗️and i wanted to throw Another Party. YAY FUNCTIONAL ORGANS WOOOO
so anyway. this has taught me a lot about why people often go thru years of denial about a serious autoimmune diagnosis. i've known for well over a year that whatever i have is chronic and dangerous, so i wasn't surprised or upset by the confirmation -- i imagine that the majority of people who go to the doc for persistent flu-like symptoms & pain are NOT expecting to be told it's something chronic and dangerous.
like yeah most people's hearts probably Do drop when they test positive for systemic antibodies. that's completely sensible and explains some of why docs are so hesitant to diagnose without irrefutable proof.
not me tho. i'm built different

Ok, so I lost some of my hearing in my left ear about 15 years ago after getting mastoiditis (that wasn't a fun hospital visit - that was when I learned that lumbar punctures ARE REALLY FUCKING PAINFUL).
I've been living in sweet ignorance since then, just accepting that I can't hear as well from that side, oh well, there you go.
Until yesterday when I was listening to my music. As I do every. Single. Day. So much, so normal. It was a Slipknot song. Don't listen to them very often, but it was my master playlist, which has about 2,000 songs on it by now, so it's a huge range of songs.
It was a song called Psychosocial.
Everyone, I repeatedly heard 'Circumcision'. NOT 'Psychosocial'.
I shall be getting my hearing tested ASAP.

In which I draw Mercutio and Tybalt within the & Juliet universe based off of a mix of Alpharad's performance of and my school's performance of Romeo & Juliet
I couldn't tell who Mercutio was and who Tybalt was so I just went off of colors I associate them with, I'm sorry if I got them wrong

Drake: What’s that in your ear? Does it play music? I want one!
Leslie: It’s my hearing aid. It helps me to hear bedder.
Drake: Cool! Let’s go outside and play.

Before Leslie can even get settled, Dray drags him outside.
Leslie: Wow! It’s so preddy out here.
Drake: Yeah, and we have animals too!

Okay yay these loops earbuds actually help with my hearing stuff! Makes voices stand out from background sounds which is good for the days when background sounds make everything gibberish.
They do muffle things too…but some days my ears muffle themselves so whatever lol

Tl;dr
Ivy replaced Tim’s lenses in his goggles with rose tinted ones to reduce his symptoms of light sensitivity, without actually causing increased sensitivity. He wears them very often now. This is a bag of things you can choose from; I am deciding my Tim has visual disturbances as well including visual snow, shadowing/glowing around object (and people), afterimages, and things that are impossible to describe. He also has tinnitus and is HoH but I have yet to decide on those specifics.
Original post begins:
Continuing to think about Gunpowder Tim being light sensitive and his goggles being tinted to help with that.
I want to think of him as being like me because of course I do, projection. But in photos he usually is not wearing the goggles on his face, which I guess is better since his are tinted *green* (because they are for welding actually).
In my own research I have read that pink or rose tinted lenses are best for light sensitivity, however I have also seen some people use a yellow tint. Wearing sunglasses inside regularly can actually increase your light sensitivity. Because his are originally intended for looking at extremely bright light, they are quite dark. The tints on lenses intended for photophobia are not dark, they are light and do not block out light across the board.
So, I guess, headcanon that Tim aquired these goggles and used them for his light sensitivity. He was wearing dark lenses too often so Ivy took them and replaced them with a better tint, returning them while lecturing him on photophobia.
Who made the lenses and tint? Idk. Could be another mech or they were aquired from a planet they visited. Maybe they were stolen from a corpse, who knows.
Does Tim get migraines? With aura? Does he have visual disturbances? Maybe he has visual snow syndrome (VSS)? Maybe he has a brain tumor? Does he have tinnitus? It’s part of VSS and also could be a side effect of the goddamn moon explosion. If the event that burned out his eyes also affected his hearing (which it probably would) he’s likely HoH/deaf. Can VSS be caused by an event like that? I have no idea; it’s neurological, meaning the cause is in the brain, but lots of things can fuck with how your brain works, and the exact neurological cause of VSS is currently unknown.

I should be given a dollar each time I'm told that "sign language should be taught at school!" And that "is so sad that people keep excluding deaf people :(" by people that then get angry when I ask them to repeat themselves a third time when I can't properly hear them
I bet I would get enough money for a pair of hearing aids in like, less than a month

ear talk is making me focus a lot on my chronic tinnitus..ive had it since i was a kid so i thought it was a normal sound that everyone heard lol. still annoys me once in a while. I'm 90% sure it was caused by having ventilation tubes in my ears as a kid.
