Remembering Pelé, Vivienne Westwood and Ruggero Deodato
Today we lost three celebrities in one day. Here is my combined remembrance:
Remembering Pelé 1940-2022
Soccer legend Pele has died at 82. He is possibly the biggest soccer star of all-time and one of my favorite one-name celebrities. Within pop culture, he acted in several films including John Huston’s Victory and he even wrote, produced and composed music as well.

Remembering Vivienne Westwood 1941-2022
Fashion designer Vivienne Westwood has died at 81. She was instrumental in the look of punk rock and new wave music. In the 1970s, she and Malcolm McLaren ran the boutique store SEX in London, where she made clothes that became a part of the British punk scene being spearheaded by McLaren’s band he managed, The Sex Pistols. In early 2014, I visited an exhibit in Paris about Europunk and some of her work was on display. Countless looks in punk and new wave are derived from her vision!

Remembering Ruggero Deodato 1939-2022
Italian director Ruggero Deodato has died at 83. He is mainly known for pushing the envelope with his violent horror films like Cannibal Holocaust, often cited as being the original found footage film. I just recently saw him featured in the Sergio Corbucci documentary Django & Django, where he was interviewed about being Corbucci’s AD. Eli Roth was heavily influenced by Deodato and even cast him in a small role in Hostel: Part II.
