#human/turian flirting

yes yes i love shakarian because those two just understand each other intrinsically. but i am foaming at the mouth for more cross-cultural differences that don't quite translate. i want garrus to be horrified by the idea that milk comes out of humans and babies drink it. i want shepard to be grossed out that turian parents chew up food for their babies and spit it in their mouths. i want shepard to not quite realize that when she arches her neck it's actually super suggestive and "uh babe, why are you flirting with my father like that?" "what, no, i'm just stretching." i want garrus to not 100% understand sarcasm because humans don't have subvocals and why would they ever just lie boldly like that? i want shepard to get used to the idea that turians have never once evolved to use utensils when they eat (hello? they only have three fingers?) and has to come to terms with garrus gnawing at huge chunks of blue, way too undercooked pieces of meat with his claws. i want garrus to be awestruck with the different amount of ways that humans can style their hair, and how does that not hurt? you're yanking your fringe and clipping it back? are you sure that's comfortable? i want shepard to turn her translator off every now and again so that she could hear the little chirping noises garrus makes to himself when he's concentrating. i want garrus to secretly adore watching shepard curl into chairs and twist her limbs onto couches because there's simply no way he could ever bend like that and be comfortable. i just want more.

Okay so I know "turians purr" is like. Old hat and basically accepted fanon at this point, because they are Space Kitty People, but.
I like the idea that it's not necessarily a direct translation to "this turian is happy".
Like a human smile, it's all wrapped up with other body language and can mean a dozen things - a smile can be sad, or uncomfortable, or pleased, or passive aggressive, or threatening.
ME1 Shepard is paying close attention to her new alien crewmembers, so she figures out fairly quickly that purring suggests satisfaction or contentment more than outright joy - he purrs when she tells him "Good shooting today, Vakarian," or when he's finished a good meal or when he's cleaning his rifle, which she knows he finds relaxing. She knows Nihlus made a purring noise when she gave a response he approved of.
ME2 Shepard finds out that turians also purr as comfort, similar to the human shhh. When she goes to the battery after Aratoht and feels her face crumple and bursts into tears because 300,000 innocent people are dead and she couldn't save them, he wraps his arms around her and rests his chin on her head and rumbles into her hair until she calms down. And it's not just to comfort others - she hears him purring when he's semi-conscious in the medbay after he takes a rocket to the jaw, and when she alerts Mordin he helpfully clarifies for her that she doesn't need to be alarmed - Garrus is hurt, and scared, and he's self-soothing. He also purrs when he's floundering trying to flirt with her in her cabin before the collector base, and her translator chip interprets it as nervous laughter.
Like. It's a social behaviour. It's evolved out of "I am content" in some ancient Palaveni animal into basic comfort ("you are expressing distressed body language, so I am demonstrating calm, contented body language to reassure you there is no threat here") in primitive turians and into a dozen multifaceted social cues in an advanced species with a complicated culture that calls for formality and politeness.

Do you think it confused the other species that the turians of all people are the ones humans bonded with best? First Contact and the minority of humans who hate aliens aside, the most emotional species in the galaxy latched right onto the most emotionally constipated species.
Oh, it definitely confused them. Because other species have had attempts at bonding with the turians before.
The salarians were too hesitant and cautious for them.
The asari acting superior and looking for their own interest.
The krogans are fun to wrestle with, but their core beliefs are just too different for them to work together.
So what's better than the galaxy equivalent of overly curious animals who just can't sit still without packbonding with something around them?
Don't forget that even on earth, humans have this weird relationship with birds. They tend to accidentally mate with us because we pet them so much. Hell pigeons have been in a symbiotic relationship with us for so long that they can't leave our cities anymore. It's their jungle now.
And turians like any other birds would probably latch onto the humans giving them chin scratches and dextro seeds.
Much like how talented bartenders take it as a challenge to make non-alcholic versions of cocktails. I feel like human chefs and scientists would try their best to create dextro versions of our food just so the Turians could eat it. Humans made wine suitable for cats. Why wouldn't they make dextro chocolate ice cream for their beloved turians' neighbour?
We're loud, expressive with our emotions, blunt with our flirting, and very, very ready to latch onto an alien for eternity. Turians gotta respect our loyalty and countless attempts to understand their culture, truly understand it and not just an on papers clinical documentation.
We're also relentless. We fail at something and keep trying. We had so many people die when we first discovered the artics, but we still kept sending researchers over to figure it out. No, like it was voluntary, we were so interested in this cold freezing hell that talented people kept agreeing to go there even if it cost their life.
I bet you every turians have met at least one human they admire, we're stubborn and petty, but use these traits to accomplish something and as fuel for our passions.
Look at how fast the humans bounced back after first contact war. Dude, if it was the asari or hanar, I bet you, my liver, that they'd never let their war with turians go and always hold a grudge.
Not that humanity didn't hold a grudge, but when all the new generations are seeing are friendly adorable featherless birds who are so fun to poke and tease until they come out of their shell, it's hard to remember the grudge from a war you weren't even old to participate in.
We've had countless wars with ourselves, the turians aren't special. And when an entire race is raised upon public service and discipline like them, they must be so repressed for a wild human to come along and be a bad influence on them.
Like live a little! Make bad choices, take risks, and be a little more selfish. Likewise, there are humans who will come along and help strengthen their core values, give your best to others, stay honest and loyal, and help people without looking for payback.
Turian and human duos become far too common that they're excluded from the galaxy program to integrate every race into each other's military and jobs.
Every turian ship has had at least one human working on it. Some even develop a taste for dextro food and cut any risk of contamination by never bringing other foods onboard. Teaching the other turians fun games or showing them human music. The humans proved they could keep up with the turians, even join in on their wrestling matches just for fun.
and while the humans didn't have the same thing because of how much we outnumber them, every human ship at least has met a turian ship and sent them a hello or told them their ship is very pretty then moved on their way.
And it's not all sunshine or rainbows. There are incidents where turians and humans just could never agree or meet eye to eye. Especially with how blind turian loyality to their group can be and how individualistic humans are. Turians are used to accepting orders from highers above without questions, while humans are used to having a vote and a say in every important decision.
We think giving up our individuality is basically the same as dying since you are truly alive if you're not free to be yourself? Nothing defines you in this life but you, doesn't matter what group you leave behind.
they think giving up their clan is basically the same as dying. Because exile must have meant death for them before, if someone isn't loyal to their group, how can they be loyal to anyone?
Some humans and turians just could never get along, but the majority of them proved their ability to overlook the differences and work together despite all.
Turians who become close to humans learn how addicting the taste of freedom is. Humans who are close to them learn how reassuring being a part of a community is.
There is a reason why C-Sec is mainly made out of humans and turians. We both are looking to make a difference in our own way, prove a point, or find a purpose.
I like the idea of humans and turians being the first races to ever look past each other's different appearance and actually see each other's spirits. The first two races to pass the test of the universe and work together and start relationships despite knowing they can't have children, fall in love, and grow old together.
The novelty of an alien falls off very quickly. It takes a human 3 months to develop a habit. After 3 months, you'd stop introducing your friend as Viteponia the turian and just start introducing them as Via, my pal.
You'd even forget the fact they were a turian, like they obviously are, duh, but you just don't think about it anymore. To you, they're Via, the person who held you back from texting your ex and the person who you share your dextro snacks with. You bring them over to your family and forget to mention the fact they're a turian.
I think at some point, turians would try to get you to wear face paint because they forgot you're human and got sad over the fact you don't have any clans. That you're such a good and loyal person, you don't deserve to be bare faced, so here, let them paint your face with their clan colours.
Also I think they're very curious about human hair. Birds love human hair, pulling at it, sitting in it like a next, even using it to build their nest. Turians must have looked at human hair and felt a very weird primal urge to touch it and test how it feels.

how does fanon get Shakarian wrong? 👀👀
*inhales*
I'm gonna start off by saying that I'm a turianfucker too and turians are hot and I get the thirst I get y'all
BUT
too many people are attracted to turians and want a turian romance so badly that they ignore Garrus's entire character for the sake of getting a turian romance and just basically strip him down to nothing but his species. People who are into turians and have a primal kink or something, which like. I also get I'm a monsterfucker too that's fun. are also projecting too much of that kink onto turians and Garrus specifically because Garrus is just unlucky enough to be the romance option. People write a generic alien/human relationship while ignoring most of what the Shakarian dynamic looks like in canon because. Well I actually don't know why. But the amount of turian/human fics, and yes, Shakarian too, that include some kind of "turians are a bit feral or actually aggressive/possessive" take is terrifying. Have we played the same games? Turians are literally described over and over as uptight having a stick in their ass sticklers for the rules. Garrus is an awkward nerd who doesn't know how to flirt with his girlfriend. Even when he he does the evil he does it in the most rule-obedient way possible. He's a mess and he relies on Shepard a bit too much especially in the first two games. This man is NOT the growly dominant alien character insert you want him to be I'm sorry. Turians have 15,000 more years of civilisation than humans. They are not going to be feral creatures just because they have sharper teeth. The human would be the primitive uncivilised alien in a turian/human relationship if you need someone to fill that role (also, why would you?).
Not to mention Shepard being treated as a self-insert which is. well it is a lot more forgivable in my eyes, but even as an RPG PC, Shepard still has a lot of distinct character. I think this is the first time since playing The Walking Dead that I've seen a player character with such a strong personality despite the genre forcing her to be different things.
To be fair I think a lot of the problems with fanon characterization of not only Shakarian but pretty much everyone who gets commonly mischaracterized (look at the woobification of Tali) could be fixed by regularly checking back in with the source material instead of, which I understand and can also be guilty of sometimes, immersing yourself in more and more layers of fanfic until you can't tell apart the fanon Shakarian from the canon Shakarian.
Dishonourable mentions (things that aren't common bad fandom practice but bother me personally): sub Shepard and actually worse yet dom Garrus, any AU where Garrus is a human (like??? lmao. his entire personality and conflict is driven by him being a turian, that is so central to his character that I can't imagine why you would take that away and think that's the same person), Shakarian retiring to the beach (Garrus said tropical. He didn't say beach. He hates swimming he would drown save him)
Also obviously this should go without saying, but there are TONS of great fanfics about Shakarian out there. This is just a list of what people get wrong that I wrote in like ten minutes on my phone sitting on the floor in my kitchen. It's not some magic truth scroll of fandom transgressions. Also obviously everyone is free to interpret fictional characters however they want even if it's different from the source material. Sometimes ignoring canon is better, trust me. Do whatever you want and don't let me spoil your fandom experience for you.
But yeah
TL;DR: I think that Shakarian and Garrus in particular suffers a lot from Garrus being the only turian romance in the games.

My Life Needs Calibrating (Male!Reader x Garrus Vakarian)
Requested by @jayfeather965 for  What about a short fic on Garrus confessing his feelings for reader?
Tumblr media
Garrus Vakarian has an undeniable charm.
At least... to you.
Let's be fair, though. It's easy to fantasize but a lot harder to process in real life.
Garrus is taller than any human you've ever met, and though you find him cute, he doesn't emote in a way recognizable to you as a human. His facial plates are cool to the touch and hard, more like ceramic than anything you'd feel resembles skin. His hands only have the three fingers, and really, it's impossible to forget that he is not human - he can't even eat the same physical category of food that you can.
But, if you set aside the physical incompatibility of your bodies' designs, there are still things to love about him.
He is strong, of will and heart as well as body. He only fights for causes he truly believes in, and he doesn't back down easy.
He is whip smart, with an amazing memory and head for tactics.
And he is committed to his morals in a way that is intensely human. He cares for the parts, not the sum, and in a war where it's all life against the Reapers, that's kind of a wonderful quality to maintain.
And when it comes to romance, he's got the most endearing amount of awkwardness.
It's very clear that this man's only experience with flirting has been Fleet and Flotilla, the turian-quarian limited series epic romance, but somehow it just makes him more lovable.
Take the time he confessed his feelings for you.
He invited you out onto the Citadel under false pretenses.
Claimed to need your eye on a new set of armor.
Which you really don't know much about.
He was far more nervous than usual, kept glancing over at you and trying to speak.
And it just got suspicious by the time he had taken you halfway around the whole Citadel without finding the armor store he supposedly wanted to bring you to.
"Garrus, not that I don't like spending time with you, but what the hell is going on here?"
Garrus tries to look away but you smack his arm, demanding his attention.
"I've been trying to ask you out!" Garrus finally snaps.
"Well, how was I supposed to know that?" you snap back.
"I don't know! Maybe it's because I've been in love with you for months and months!"
You start to laugh then, and Garrus chuckles with you.
"Okay, this was bad, wasn't it?"
You nod. "Not the worst, but yeah. Bad. How long did you say you were in love?"
"You heard that part?"
"Yup. But it's okay. I think I've been in love with you for longer."
"How about a redo? Wanna get some food?"
You wink. "Are you asking me on a date, Garrus Vakarian?"
"I most certainly am."

Oooo, you play mass effect, it finally clicked in my head. Who do you romance in Andromeda?
Also, I really did enjoy the game regardless of the amount of hate it got
ZOMG, you must've missed me at my most Andromeda obsessed, lol! I haven't actually been able to play it since last November, when my previous computer gave out and then this one has been super lousy. However, as soon as I can hopefully get my Vegas back on and thus be able to GIF (and vid) again, I'm planning on going back to Andromeda to finally finish the big Ryder twins romance GIF project I had going, lol!
In short, I've romanced every single option available except Scott/Peebee and Scott/Jaal. Scott/Peebee was in progress when I got derailed. But here are some posts I've made about various things, if you'd like to see them!
Sara's romances with Jaal, Reyes, Peebee and Vetra
Scott/Cora and the shocking, unexpected Scott/Harry romance 😂😜
I was working on the Scott/Gil vid here
I've vidded Sara/Reyes, Scott/Cora, Scott/Gil and my final vid ever was about Scott and his dad, Alec
Mass Effect: Andromeda incorrect quotes
Me at the bottom talking about doing an Insanity run and showing my Sara in her Mjolnir-like tanky armor plus the name of my crafted weapons 😂
I absolutely adore this game and I've honestly missed playing it so much! Also, did you know that Kate Kennedy aka Kai from Halo is the voice of one of the Angara?
Tumblr media
I romanced Avela as Scott JUST for that fact alone, lol!
Anyway, like I said, I never did get the chance to finish making GIFs for all of my romances and I still hope to finish those last two for Scott. As for which are my favs...
Sara: Reyes. I'm a sucker for that scoundrel, what can I say? 😍😇 But Vetra is a close second. I have to physically restrain myself from flirting with her if I'm planning on romancing somebody else because there's no way I'd hurt my best Turian girl like that! 😱😉
Scott: Gil surprisingly became my favorite "I have to make SURE not to click the flirt options if I'm romancing somebody else" romance. I also, no surprise, loved his romance with Reyes. Cora also was great!
I honestly really enjoyed all of the romance options, except for Keri's (the reporter) and not for any fault of hers but I disliked how she looks kinda uncomfortable with either Ryder flirting with her while she's just trying to do her job. I felt like a real creep, I have to say! 😩Then at the end, after I've annoyed this poor Asari at her workplace this entire time, the "payoff" was we went from a table at the Vortex to Ryder's just suddenly outside of her room? Not even a kiss? 🫤(I legit have headcanoned that Keri never actually let Ryder into her room, just went in herself, closed the door, and left them out in the hall, lol! "That's for continuing to come on to me and never taking the hint while I'm clearly just doing my job, you creep!" 😖😂😉)
If I could've romanced Evfra *points up at his pic above* I totally would have because I'm a sucker for a good "enemies to lovers" trope, lol! And I think Evfra would haaaaate himself for falling for the human Pathfinder. 😍😍😍
I clearly have put a lot of silly thoughts into Andromeda, lol! Anyway, thanks so much for letting me ramble about this! Who did you romance? Have you played as both twins or do you prefer just the one? Default or custom? Do you mod? My computer was coming off the rails at the time so I've only stuck to what's available in-game but I've seen some beautiful Ryder twins and some awesome clothing options with mods. 😉💖💖💖

behold! my masterpiece!
(explanations for who everyone is under the cut)
Rowan (he/him): The son of my F.F13 S/I! About 19. His father was never in the equation, so he's very close with his mother. Has an enemies -> lovers arc with N.oel from 13-2
There's an AU in which he takes L.ightning's place in the third game as God's Savior. Why? Because his mom has been taken hostage by B.hunivelze.
Nalia (she/her): The daughter of my XB.1 S/I and D.unban! About 17. She's very kind and loves flowers. A bit of a cousin to N.ikol. Has a British accent.
There is an AU in which she gets transported to the third game (F.uture R.edeemed specifically) and meets my XB.3 S/I. Seeing someone who looks so much like her mother but isn't her + that woman being in a relationship with another guy isn't something she takes well.
Lillian and Thorn (she/her and he/him respectively): Lilly and Thorn are the twins! Both about 16, kids of XB.3 Ash and M.atthew. They're pranksters.
Kirrahe (she/her): Adopted daughter of M.ass E.ffect Ash and G.arrus. Human, almost 17, loves aliens a lot. She's a human biotic and often uses her powers for silly things ("Kira, why is the TV remote floating?")
Aster (he/him): Adopted son of M.ass E.ffect Ash and G.arrus. Turian, about 17. A little confused about human customs, but he's getting there. Skilled with machines and loves spaceships.
Violet (she/they): About 15, kid of Ash and A.qua! Aspiring Keyblade Wielder! Loves Z.ack F.air and absolutely has games on her phone.
H.i-F.i R.ush Kid: I haven't developed this kid much so I can't say much, but they love jokes and music a lot! A lot like their dad!
Daughterdota (she/her): Daughter of Ash and K.yohei. Likes skateboarding, basketball, and her dog. About 17.
Older S.hura Son (he/him): Older son of Ash and S.hura. Doesn't have a name yet because I haven't thought of anything. About 18. Is a huge flirt.
Younger Shura Son (he/him): Younger brother of the kid above, about 14. Also doesn't have a name yet. Sorta quiet, but one of the funniest people I know.
F.raldarius Daughter (she/her): Eldest children of Ash and F.elix. Heir to House F.raldarius. About 17 and a student at the Officer's Acadeny. Despite her light-hearted and jovial nature, she takes her responsibility and works herself to bone to be someone she feels is worthy of her future position.
Fraldarius Son (he/him): Younger brother of the kid above, about 15. Bit of a bookworm and aspiring mage. Generally very polite and well-mannered, but he's a lot more comfortable with a fireball in his hand than holding a conversation.
Demyx Kiddo (he/him): About 17, son of Ash and D.emyx. As the son of two musicians, he's a musician himself. A little shy, but has a heart of gold.

Mass Effect 2 replay, Kasumi’s loyalty mission:
-Needed to recruit Mordin first so I could research upgrades, but Kasumi’s up next so I can get the locust.
Omega:
-If you go paragon when speaking to the Patriarch after Aria’s asked you to get him to safety, you hear the first mention of a krogan’s krantt.
Krantts are a fantastic addition to the world building for krogans. They add some much needed depth to how they relate to each other beyond killing.
-It’s a shame the Patriarch doesn’t come back in ME3. The quest positions him as potentially regaining some influence if you go paragon – he could have been leading a rebellion against the Cerberus forces in the Omega DLC or the like.
-Aria’s past is built up in ME2, but again nothing comes of this. Just vague hints that major shit went down.
-According to Gavorn if you go renegade, slavers regularly kidnap vorcha to sell. Lovely.
Bekenstein
-As many have noted, its ridiculous that a garden world so close to the Citadel was left unclaimed until humanity came along. The game doesn’t even try to justify it.
-General observation: Why are women in Mass Effect normally in dresses for casual wear?
The exceptions I can think of are outfits for Shepard and colonists. But on the Citadel or Omega, the casual wear for all women are dresses.
It stands out to me given that I’m far more accustomed to seeing women wear pants than dresses or skirts.
Also, I’d like an option to put femShep in a suit for formal wear.
-As many have have noted, it’s strange Kasumi didn’t dress up for the mission. Honestly, the real reason Hock didn’t let her is because she probably didn’t meet the dress code.
-It says something about Mass Effect that guests to a fancy party are permitted to keep pistols. It’s the norm for everyone to be armed.
Unless you’re a human refugee in the Omega slums, apparently.
-I do appreciate how ME1 and ME2 had several missions that did not involve combat. Or at least parts of missions. ME3 could have used more of those.
-There is transient dialogue at the party about how Shepard is dead.
Seriously, what was up with Jacob saying that the general public doesn’t know they’re dead? How did that line make it to production?
-The mercs are Eclipse, but the ones at the party are all human. Given that Eclipse is primarily Asari and Salarian, that’s notable.
-And nearly all the guests are human too.
-Does Hock have ties to Cerberus?
He’s shady, involved in several questionable activities, and signs point to human supremacist. It’d be natural for him to be connected to Cerberus.
-You’d think an alarm would go off when the power to the barrier for the vault is disabled.
Sure, Kasumi may have taken care of that too but there’s no indication to it.
-Why does Kasumi hack the first security door, but then leave me to hack the second?
She’s definitely laughing at my struggles.
-As others have noted, the krogan anime playing in the security room is interesting.
I really want to see in universe media of Mass Effect. Can you imagine Mass Effect anime? It’d be a trip.
-You don’t even need to pass a speech check to get Hock talking if you flirt with him. He just goes off.
-Why does Shepard need to speak to Hock, anyway? Couldn’t she just linger around him while he speaks to other guests? Study the fish or something.
-There’s a statue from Illos in the vault. It’s labeled a prothean statue. Given this is from Shepard’s point of view, it indicates Shepard at least believed that’s what protheans looked like.
-Why does Hock have so many statues of krogans? There’s four or five.
-Why is turian art unusual outside of Palaven?
Is it because no one else vibes with turian art? I don’t think so – Kasumi said it may be the most valuable piece in the collection.
So the implication is that turian art is rare.
That feels unlikely; it’s pretty typical for large governments to commission art pieces to show them off. If only to one up other governments.
I suppose turians could just not value art, but outside this line there’s no indication of that.
Give me more cultural world building, Bioware!
-Why is the locust on the same podium as the gray box? Why is the gray box even on display in the vault among a bunch of statues? Where are the rare books, etc.?
I’m grateful for the opportunity to see all these statues, but logically the gray box would be stored somewhere else. And not with a submachine gun.
-I am not enjoying my insanity playthrough of ME2. I just ran through all my ammo for the first time.
How are thermal clips superior to ME1 overheating again? Is there some reason I can’t keep a gun that uses overheating on me as backup in case I run out of thermal clips?
-Thank goodness that there’s a checkpoint in the fight with Hock’s gunship. Once Kasumi destroys the shield, if you die you reload at that point.
-I debated whether to have Kasumi destroy or keep the graybox. I’ve always let her keep it before.
I think it’s healthier for her to destroy it, but it’s not really my call to make.
Also, ME2 mechanics at play here. I need to make sure I have enough paragon points to resolve the Tali/Legion quarrel later. So let her keep the graybox it is.
Normandy
-Emily Wong assumed Shepard’s “death” was them going undercover. If I recall correctly, a few others believe the same.
Again: Everyone knows Shepard was dead. What was Jacob talking about?
-And the Blue Suns offered to take over the security for Mordin’s old clinic. Fortunately, Daniel told them no. Hopefully he lives long enough to make it stick.
-Early Mass Effect 2 is heavily weighted to tech. I already have two, plus the decreased cooldown time they unlock.
I don’t think you get any upgrades for biotics until after Horizon, if my memory is correct, unless you play the firewalker dlc.
As someone who always plays biotics, this is painful.
-Miranda has no new dialogue, oddly enough.
Jacob
-I do not understand why Jacob is with Cerberus. This is starting to feel like a toxic relationship.
Past experiences with Cerberus make him assume the worst of everyone. He’s wary of friendly overtures because they’re normally false. Not trusting other people is the norm.
Jacob, why are you here? Do you assume TIM will kill you if you leave and don’t trust Shepard enough to tell them that?
If so, kudos to you based on ME3 but I wish that had been discussed at some point.
Talking to this man feels like trying to gain the trust of a feral cat that’s accustomed to being kicked.
-He says that the Alliance doesn’t people handle their own problems and Cerberus is the same, but puts more effort into hiding that they’re spying on you.
I’ve lost track of how many times it’s come up that the Normandy is under surveillance. Does Jacob consider this subtle? What does he consider blatant?
-Once again, it feels like threading a needle to not trigger a romance with Jacob. And once again, he makes it very clear that he’s not interested.
Shepard has the opportunity to tell Jacob that since they’re interested, they’re going to assume Jacob’s down for it too.
The romance with Jacob is both incredibly icky and very hard to avoid. I don’t know what Bioware was thinking.
Mordan
-Just like Wrex, Mordin dismisses the concept of a krogan scientist.
It would have been hilarious if we had recruited Okeer and the two had to share a lab. We would have been down one teammate.
-Now Mordin opens up to you and tells you about reinforcing the genophage.
He claims it’s because he wants you to know that he’s willing to do what’s necessary, but it comes off as wanting reassurance that he did the right thing.
As much as he insists that it was necessary and not genocide, his guilt is obvious.
-Interestingly, going paragon nets you 6 paragon points. Going neutral earns you 4 paragon points.
Neutral doesn’t push back against the genophage. It just validates Mordin telling you about his work. Bioware could easily have had it provide no points, but gave you the opportunity to earn paragon points without opposing the genophage.

Shepard AMA Round 4
Even better this time because I've found a keyboard to use with my phone :D As usual, using @spookyvalentine 's list of questions! (Note: A few were answered already & just cut and pasted lol)
Round 1
Round 3
1. When was the last time Shepard cried? - Just after Thane's death. This is another one that may get a full drabble treatment, but the gist of it is: goes to pray because she's taken a lot of hits recently, seeing her husband killed (and because of my developing thoughts on Kepral's and all, his health had probably been improving or at least moderating)? She barely keeps composure in the hospital and by the time she's there to talk to... like her patron goddess at this point, she can get in like three words before just. Completely breaking. Like- she's definitely shed plenty of tears, but usually managed to keep it relatively contained and quiet; this is full on finally raging at the situation she's been herded into and truly swallowed by grief and despair for a little bit.
But there's work to be done, so once she's cried out the worst of it, she picks herself up and gets back to the Normandy. No, she's not fine- but everyone's losing loved ones right now. Hers isn't more special, and she can help prevent there being more.
2. First impression of Miranda—and does it change? - Dangerous. Very, very dangerous and might sell you to satan for one corn chip. While the impression of dangerous doesn't fade, she does come to to respect Miranda's bluntness, and is delighted to count her among 'loyal ally' once Miri gives her resignation on the Collector base.
3. The game Shepard will always win: - She's got some exceptional balance and flexibility that make her a Twister champ.
4. Do they like living on a ship? -It's made up the bulk of her life, disliking it was never really a choice lol. She definitely enjoys it though, it's nice that there's always others around. Even in an apartment situation, she'd find anything else unsettlingly lonely for a while.
5. What skills come naturally to them? - Cooperation and diplomacy, she has a very strong, inherent sense of fairness that is damn near impossible to turn off.
6. What abilities have they worked hard to hone? - All her combat skills, particularly her sniping and biotics. The biotics are an extra point of pride towards the end, since she pretty much had to relearn using them from scratch after being brought back. Also, her language skills, you don't give a debate speech in turian dialect as a kid for nothing!
7. The very first time they killed someone: - At about twenty, and it's not a particularly dramatic story. She was fresh and on a small mission to bolster protection of a colony that had been facing batarian raids. She was positioned high up and far, and did her share of picking off slavers as they came along.
8. Shepard walks into a bakery. What do they order? oh my god I forgot this one
Big slice of black forest cake.
9. How did they feel about being promoted to Spectre? Hollow. Like- Adrian knew, logically, she ought to be overjoyed, this was the pipe dream her parents had had in mind for her, the long shot that was never going to happen but she'd kind of been prepared for just in case. It meant the world to Anderson. It meant so much for humanity. It was a magnificent step in how she could serve the galaxy. She tried to rationalize it as shock, but even to her dying day, she could only muster up empty indifference to that moment.
10. Favorite drinking buddy and why: - Wrex. 1- he can keep up even after the cybernetics. 2- he always stayed pretty calm and had the best stories. (Thane's probably second, even though neither of them go hard- she just very much enjoys barside flirting with him.)
11. What does Samara think of Shepard? - Fairly respectful. Admires Shepard's aim to preserve peace but willingness to fight should the situation call for it, but also finds her a little... overly attached and sentimental, as it were.
12. Where do their thoughts linger? The past, present, or future? - Present, mostly. She doesn't like dwelling on the past, and while she thinks of the future... well, she always dealt with a serious sense of forshortened future, even before dying the first time. Best just to focus on the here and now.
13. It’s Shepard’s turn to cook. What’s on the menu? How does it go? - Cold sandwiches and that's if you're lucky. She's fucked up MREs, over or undercooks meat, and just never nailed timing and often winds up burning things, and once managed to start a fire in the pursuit of sauted onions. (That said, especially being a biotic, she has like 5 varieties of candy and protein bars on her person at any given time. Can't cook, but her squad can always count on having snacks during a mission!)
14. Describe Shepard’s funeral:
Which one?
Her first death was a decent but overall average affair- widely recognized, several speeches from Alliance brass, her parents, Anderson, even some words from the asari Councilor. Some from the Normandy crew, of course. But it comes and goes in a couple of hours, that's about it.
After the battle of London?
The Normandy crew hold one after the crash, even though the ship needs repairs. It won't be confirmed for a while, but they know Shepard's gone, Chakwas has a bottle of brandy and they've got time, now.
There are countless smaller memorial services held throughout the galaxy over the following year, and Shepard is mentioned but not singled out in many- one for lost Alliance soldiers, one for casualties of the Citadel, for casualties of the Reaper war in general, for Spectres killed in action. The dedicated service isn't until the following April 11th.
Shepard had stipulated, that should she be KIA and no remains could be recovered, just make it a celebration of life, no symbolic burial or anything (If there were remains: cremation & scatter at sea. No body this time.) 'Talk, get Ash to read something if you can. Whatever gives everyone closure, I'm not planning on hanging around.'
She hadn't been slacking in helping people before her first death, but her undertakings throughout 2 & 3 see an outpouring of people from across the Milky Way whose lives she directly impacted, there's a solid couple hours for open talk before the prepared speeches start to account for this.
Hannah and Adrian Shepard try to give a second eulogy for their child, and it's painfully apparent that while never outright estranged, there was a rift that never did properly mend.
All the Normandy survivors say something or another. Wrex is the only one who doesn't start straight up crying in some fashion. Garrus can't make it through, and Joker just passed up speaking entirely. Ashley is the last, and ends the event around twilight with a reading of The Old Astronomer.
15. What draws Morinth to Shepard? - Novelty. First human spectre, back from the dead, so notoriously... nice; drawing in and corrupting Shepard would be delicious.
16. How well does Shepard know Kai Leng? - Not at all.
17. During a mission, Shepard breaks an arm. Badly. How do they handle it? - That's the risk you take on the field. She doesn't like it by any means, but she'll get it set as best as possible, carry on, and wonder if this will be the new most bullshit thing Chakwas has had to fix on her. (It isn't- that honor still goes to 'being doused head to toe in thresher maw acid and still not coming back to the ship for 4 hours')
18. Three rumors about Shepard:
- Paid off by aliens to sabotage human interests.
- Relies on bribery and threats, her charisma is just Alliance propoganda to get the wider community to accept such a high-profile human.
- A small but very dedicated one: Is the unnamed photographer behind a number of landscape photos that have appeared in Fornax over the last 7 years, as some of them are very hard to access unless you're military or similar, and how the fuck else did Fornax get images of Ilos before anywhere else?!
19. Table manners? - Flawless when they have to be, decorum was definitely among her lessons growing up. But on an ordinary day... eh. Not a slob, but she will definitely talk with her mouth partially full.
20. What was their first reaction to seeing their glowing scars in 2? - Very fucking unnerved. Of everything that's happened to her, that's probably what gave her the most pause, and she was /very/ glad to see them fade.
21. Why did Nihlus choose to nominate Shepard as a Spectre candidate? - She was pushed on him, really. He was wary about human candidates, considering Anderson's failure, but the Alliance never eased up. Combined with Shepard's history and closeness with Anderson, he felt he'd at least give a token trial. Either she failed and he could at least say he tried, or she surprised them and the Spectres got a solid new addition. Nothing could possibly go wrong with that plan, right?
22. Describe their posture: Most of the time- tall and confident- shoulders back, head up, alert and attentive. Often rigid, even when she's supposedly 'relaxing', ready to go at a moment's notice. (Thane's the only one who's really seen Adrian truly 'down'- she tends to slump and curl into herself a bit and rely on whatever's nearby for support- chair, desk, him, the wall...)
23. Was Shepard born to lead, or was command hoisted upon them? - Yes. With Adrian being a Spacer/Sole Survivor, it's very much a 'yes to both' sort of deal. Her family has longstanding military service, and in my timeline, her parents both served in the Relay 314 incident/First Contact War, her father in particular gaining some notoriety, and her parents definitely pushed for their child to be an absolute pinnacle of humanity. They never thought Spectre was actually a possibility, but they damn well ensured she'd be a good candidate anyway.
She rarely specifically sought out leadership, though- but that wound up being part of why she so often wound up in charge of things. She was competent but not overbearing, good at mediating but kept things in line once a decision was made, and didn't act like she was entitled to boss anyone around. She just gets shit done and people tended to flock to that.
24. Do they fall in love easily? - Define love lol.
Ok for romantic love, no- Adrian would defined herself along the lines 'aromantic until proven otherwise' if pressed for specifics; Thane really took her by surprise. (But under other/broader definitions, oh yes. She loves freely and frequently, even if she never puts it into so many words. Really excited to answer the love languages question in the other set xD)
25. Does Shepard dream of the starchild, or does it take a different form? - So I'm workshopping some ideas with this thing & it's also slowly leaning into just declaring Clarke's Third Law the rule for handling ME's relationship with telepathic/telekinetic shit-
All this to say yes, and yes. It first appears as a child, because it's not used to making connections to individuals and it's learning on the fly- humans are protective of their young, right? But it becomes apparent Shepard isn't more protective of kids than anything else in general, so it slowly shifts tactics- the voices of loved ones, glimpses of old enemies, but it still morphs, until the final confrontation: it imitates Adrian, whole and hale like she'll never be again.
26. A lesson that was hard to learn:
You can't save everyone.
It's arguable if she ever did learn that- related to the above, if she ever did, it was only while talking to some abandoned AI as she was dying.
27. Who was their first crush? - When her parents were stationed to the Citadel when she was around 15, there was a salarian in the area she was kind of into, but for very many reasons that never went anywhere.
28. How do they feel about all the new cybernetics Miranda installed? - Honestly she really digs them. Like- yes it was unconsentual but Adrian never bought into that Ship of Thesus cyberpunk moralizing bullshit. She'd always been fine with bodily augmentation of all sorts, and had even had some done early on in her career.
29. Does Shepard remember dying? - Yes. Goes with an answer from the first set I did, it's slated for a writeup 👀
30. One of the dumbest things they’ve ever done: 'Okay no trust me guys I can drive this at a 90 degree angle right up a mountain this thing kicks ass-'
That was her first ground mission with Garrus and Tali. They were upside down for ten minutes and got so lost, Joker couldn't find them for another 30.
31. What is their favorite story to tell? The one that they get such a kick outta sharing that the gang could probably recite it from memory by now - Garrus and Tali actually do get in on this one since they were there- 'so I managed to talk a completely indoctrinated Saren into shooting himself-'
(Garrus also gets to mouth along to one from the SR2 era, because it was impressive and becomes meaningful but also lost all gravity to him immediately because he got to see Shepard at possibly her most flustered ever as a direct result of it: 'It seemed like an easy enough one, we might not even get invovled in combat, but it'd get Thane some ground time and see how he fit in, you know? But then there's this nest of Eclipse mercs...')
32. What kind of drunk is Shepard? Affectionate, weepy, belligerent…  - Loud and actually close to relaxed for once in her life.
33. Describe their laugh: Warm- like sunlight from late on a summer day over a fast river.
34. What was it like, facing a reaper on foot? - Numb. Like, logically? Terrifying, but so much was happening that she just kind of bypassed terror into pure flow. If asked about it later, she genuinely can't recall anything about the fight.
35. Are there any friendships that form among the crew that surprises Shepard? - Wrex and Ashley. Before Virmire, Wrex had been one of the first to join in Ash's attempt at a book club, and even after, the two seemed to butt heads but like, in a respectful rival sort of way; and they always seemed to fight well together.
Of the SR2 crew: A few (Jack winds up hanging out with Samara- ostenssibly to see if she can make her crack; Grunt spends hours in the armory chatting with Jacob), but the standout moment was Shepard coming back in from a long ground mission to refuel on snacks, only to find a moderately inebriated Garrus and Miranda... basically comisserating on daddy issues. She never brought it up to them. They never said anything to her. But she did ask EDI about it like a week later to make sure she didn't have some kind of hallucination.
36. What sort of thrills do they purposely seek out? - Fight Big Thing On Foot. Yeah, anyone can take out something with a tank canon, but bringing it down with smaller guns and way less armor is phenomenal.
37. The first speech Shepard ever gave. How’d it go? Poorly, but she was like 13. Mock debate about how humanity should go about interacting with wider galactic society. Shepard was assigned the more... 'pro-human' side. Her speech itself was technically fine (re: prepared by her dad because 'the Shepards have a reputation to maintain, dear'), but she failed & got a hell of a lecture for giving it in a (very broken, admittedly) turian dialect.
38. Do they celebrate holidays? Which is their favorite? - She's almost always up for celebrating a holiday, but her favorite is, oddly, New Year's! All of them. She likes the energetic, hopeful vibes they give everyone, and how it seems to be one that shows up in all species and tends to carry similar rituals. (There's three she gets the most involved in though, are: the galaxy Citadel standard, the one set by Earth's Gregorian calandar, and one following Rakhana's lunar cycle.)
39. Longest friendship? - Joker. In my canon, I like the idea that Shepard & Joker crossed paths a bunch growing up and were pretty good friends, keeping up online when they had to be apart. She tried to get assigned to ships he was piloting, and they were absolutely thrilled to show up to the Normandy and find each other.
40. What does Udina think of Shepard? - Hates her. Like, deep, visceral hatred for her. She could be the shining beacon of human interest and advancement, and instead, she's more interested in playing nice with the Council and has directly stated her refusal to put humanity first. So much potential, absolutey wasted.
41. If they were sent back to any moment in time, when would it be, and what would they change? - She's really not sure. Akuze is obviously the first thing that comes to mind, but... as much as she's ashamed of her actions, she can't deny that she vastly prefers living to dying, and she doubts she'd be able to get them to leave. Maybe Eden Prime - if there could be any way to warn Nihlus?
42. What song is their anthem? - The Fly
43. They come into an insane amount of money. How do they spend it? - Donate it/split it up amongst her friends. She doesn't feel she needs all that much, really.
44. What sort of relationship does Shepard have with the council? - Rough. She wants and tries to work with them as much as possible, but also oh my god will you get your heads out your collective ass/cloacas. (She also has very choice words for the idea of the council only being representative of three/four species of the like, dozen or so who agree to abide by Citadel law...)
45. Three things Shepard is bad at:
- Cooking anything more advanced than 'cold meat + cheese + berad'
-Saying 'no' when someone asks for help, even if they're clearly shady as fuck
-Driving.
46. Favorite candy? - Cotton candy. (Or anything that's vaguely fruity flavored sugar, really.)
47. Who is Shepard’s date to the Citadel party? - Sadly she never got that experience xD
48. What is Thane’s fate? - Died from injuries sustained defending the council- pretty true to canon tbh, but injuries that were severe enough he'd have died Kepral's or not. (Honestly as much as I love the final scene, I'm also a bastard who sometimes wants to say he was just DOA.)
49. What’s the perfect lazy-day shore leave? - Docked at one of the major ports, everyone gets an extra hour or so of time to sleep/fuck off as desired. Adrian herself usually tries to spend some time with a few people through the day (although Garrus and Tali are almost always a package deal lol), and if timing lines up well with Citadel stops she and Joker try to catch a meal with Anderson. SR1 era tended towards big group dinners out, SR2 era usually sees Shep & the crew picking up fresh supplies and heading back to the ship early to cook- usually it's Gardner, but some of the others pitch in here and there. And as things progress, of course, she and Thane do try to get some time out together.
50. What’s do they think of the leviathan? - Lack of DLC strikes again xD But I can give a thought there that to some level, she would find them amazing - she's always found deep ocean life fascinating and something that's still a source of mystery among most worlds. They're awesome in the classic sense of the word, almost sort of the realization of a dream.
+1. How long can Shepard hold their breath? - Her best time was nearly 7 minutes, averages around 5 & a half; N7 training and a love of swimming really helps. I imagine post cybernetics, it might be increased even further.

when we fuck the heels stay ON
ship: female shepard/garrus vakarian
rating: explicit
synopsis: turians think humans in heels is really hot. garrus thinks shepard is really hot. smut ensues.
“Everyone’s going to see,” she said.
“Let them. They’re too drunk to notice or care.” Shepard noticed that, when Garrus liked to flirt with her, his unplated area of his neck turned a deep blue tinge. He preened his neck at her-- another little trait she picked up on that more often than not led to her on her knees. Garrus leaned in, pulling her waist into his body as he kissed up and down her neck. His tongue playing on her skin caused a shiver.
“I thought you were going to behave,” Shepard whispered. She wouldn’t-- or couldn’t-- push him off of her. She was tipsy, just tipsy enough that the public affection caused the pressure to mount between her legs. He had told her once, maybe the second or the third time that she invited him up to her quarters, that he could smell her when she was aroused. Part of her that was growing larger and larger wanted him to smell her, wanted her to torture him.
“How can I, when you’ve been looking like that all night?”
Shepard leaned her body completely into his. She could feel him out of his slit between his legs, pushing against the fabric of his suit. His breath hitched in his throat as his hands made their ways to her waist. He knew that humans didn’t have the sensitive midsections that turians did, but it was still nice to feel his fingers kneading up and down her sides.
“Am I making this hard for you, Vakarian?”
“You’re an impertinent little thing, aren’t you?”
“Is that supposed to woo me?”

It's been forever since I made a Mass Effect post but today I'm here to talk about
Translator Shenanigans
You cannot tell me that at some point during downtime Shep and Garrus haven't swapped translator chips so they can each hear what the other one hears
So Shep gets to hear herself as a Cipritini(?) turian, and Garrus gets to hear himself the way Shep hears him in-game. And it turns out Garrus's translator actually makes a stab at giving her appropriate subvocals, which, parsing and translating emotion into a form of communication that doesn't actually exist in the original language is quite complicated for a computer program, so when she asks how good it is, Garrus pulls a face and guesses at around 80-90% for other turians with different regional languages, and more like 40-60% for aliens depending on the race - quarians have something similar to subvocals themselves, so Tali is fairly easy to read. Shepard is in the middle - tone is hit or miss, but he can fall back on body language to judge whether the translator is misreading her. Wrex is a struggle.
- That that means the other 60-40% of his ability to read other people relies on his ability to read up on, memorise and then look for behavioural cues in completely alien species. If he's not sure, he'll default to interpreting interactions as Professionally Polite, which. Explains several months of fruitlessly flirting with him, at least .
- And maybe everyone around them sounds different using each other's translators too? Because the translator programs essentially use the voices of voice actors who sound appropriate for each species, and the program picks voices to mimic like, the pitch and quality of the original speaker as closely as possible, but the pool of voice actors is different for each species and in-species language. Wrex is deeper and more growly in Shep's translator than Garrus's.
- (Shep tries out Wrex's translator chip, once. Hearing Garrus with a beefy krogan's voice is An Experience.)
- Shep realising Garrus actually knows quite a bit of English! His mouth isn't made for pronouncing a lot of her language's sounds - case in point, the sh sound in Shepard - but he understands more than he can speak, and when he's borrowing her translator chip, she can watch him recognise words in real time as his head tilts when he tries to figure out a sentence from a few words or when he goes to answer her - and then laughs when he remembers she now can't understand him. He likes listening to humans, he claims. Human speech is musical. Catchy. Lots of funny sounds.
- (She kind of thinks turians sound like velociraptors, a little bit. But that doesn't mean she doesn't like turning off her translator and listening to him hum and trill and chirp technobabble to himself in the battery, sometimes.)

How far have you gotten in Mass Effect 2? Also have you gotten any other pets or just your fish?
I'm doing Legion's loyalty mission, and then I will go to the omega 4 mass relay. I've done all other loyalties
Just fish for now, I did get Kelly to feed them tho, the scene was very disappointing.
I got the varen to follow me on Tuchanka after I fed him some meat but he never on ship.
Oh and a space hamster! Is he the reference to Boo and Baldur's Gate? Foshkdjsw I loved Kelly's comment about him and the cute little squeek he does when you interact with his box.
I did the admiral Hackett arrival mission by accident because I didn't realise it was the one- I was underleveled with like two snipers and 5 upgrades but eh I managed.
I have several n7 assignments left but I read that I should do them after the game ends.
I'm thinking of ng+ but apparently doing that disconnects your ME1 import or something and your choices get ereased? Or is that just a rumour, Idk.
I think imma go with Thane's romance, the siha was the final nail in the coffin that sealed by fate. I'm very disappointed by how surface level they made Jacob when he has so much potential, his loyality mission was the third on the list of the most horrifically and emotionally scarring ones to do and yet we get very little in the aftermath or from Jacob himself during it.
The overlord takes the first spot no doubt, my god.
It just felt unfullfilling and like Shepard is the one gunning for a relationship when Jacob doesn't want it, only something casual and that's after a lot of time convincing him. I miss how Kaidan or Ashley would flirt with you by themselves without having to initiate it and you can reject them or encourage them.
Here I think they did this for the player's comfort, like in that Halsin scene where he asks if you're sure multiple times. But that was bear sex! We're talking about normal smooching here or holding hands.
Instead, it butchered the romance, and it feels like Shepard is making them uncomfortable and insisting on a relationship, pressuring subordinates at that too.
Maybe it's different with maleShepard? Maybe other romances would've been different. But Garrus and Jacob fully felt like they would rather be at another room. Garrus himself says he doesn't have a fetish for humans but will try for us. That's after he tells us to go sleep with another human instead since it's closer to home.
With Garrus, I don't want someone to fix it. I don't want a rapid dog to pull the leash of every time he wants to bite. It feels like I'm just here to make sure he doesn't murder others, he seems more emotionally immature than before. Hesitant and lost, I don't want to be the one to figure who he is for him, he should do that himself.
Thane so far feels the most romantically available funny enough despite how much he simps for his dead wife. There are still some few throw away lines flirting with Shep that are subtle enough to miss.
Calling you "siha" an angel, one of the messenger of his gods, a protective angel that helps and aids people. Before you two have any commited relationship.
Describing how he remembers everything in great details even the smallest kiss and lets the comment be, if you say it made you uncomfortable then he apologises.
And he loves his son, that's always the biggest green flag. While Jacob buries his emotion and is defensive when talking about his father, meanwhile Garrus changed so much, where did my polite kind turian go?
It also fits, he still loves his wife, my Shepard still loves Kaidan, and he doesn't have much time left to live. I see Shepard and him finding solace in each other's arms before one has to eventually leave. Shepard comforts him during his last years of life while he helps them mend their freshly broken heart. A win win. A mutual agreement.
The good cop bad cop roleplay also was the closest thing to playful I have ever encountered in a loyalty mission.
I tried flirting with Samara, man that stung.
Liara came to my room but didn't make a move?
Pov: You're Liara seconds after blueballing my Shepard and actually only coming over for wine.
Tumblr media
I hate my romance options. I liked Tali's mission tho it was super fun and I don't get a lot of chances to yell and play the loudest human in the room.
Anderson betrayed us and knew about Horizon, you can go to confront him and say how he was your only friend left. He doesn't apologise and says it was a necessary risk, that made me lose respect for him a bit. Shepard does not have a single soul on their side in this lifetime.
I did some DLC by accident? That's kinda why I wanna restart with ng+ and do everything in the recommended order. Plus, the widow sniper is amazing, and I don't wanna part with it just yet :(
I liked taking Legion everywhere, but it's already end game. I had put off recruiting him because I didn't know the FF mission was his, I thought it was the last mission before the endgame missions, so I must do it last.
He looks so...ominous in every screenshot, like it's taken moments away before disaster. Ik it's just his headlights but man he looks ready to jump me. It made me realise how scary the Geth can be when you're not viewing them from a sniper's lens behind a crate miles away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought the last empty space was for Liara but she left.
The game is 10/10, steps on your heart a lot and more angsty than the first game, Also everything is so expensive and I am so broke. The Alliance used to pay me per fucking kill, Cerberus are so stingy.
Gonna either start with a ng+, re-import my ME1 character or just move on to ME3.

@smokedanced asked: send me ‘ 😏 ’ and my muse will honestly answer the following q’s: / love from garrus

Tumblr media
How physically attracted they are to your muse
Tony's been with turians in the past - most in the aftermath of the Relay 314 Incident, which led to a lot of drama - but he can honestly say that none of those turians are as striking as Garrus. Not surprising that Tony immediately starts flirting with him the first time he lays eyes on him, even if it's mostly in a sort-of distracted way on the way to speak to the Council about the incident on Eden Prime.
How romantically attracted they are to your muse
With Tony's tendency to flirt with anyone and everyone he finds attractive, he's actually fairly oblivious to when he's romantically attracted to someone. But it definitely takes time, as he needs to genuinely get to know a person and find trust and friendship with them before there is any romantic interest. But when Tony falls for Garrus, it's all-consuming and sappy to the point of longing glances whenever Garrus isn't paying attention before Rhodey finally gets sick of them both and locks them in a room together to make them talk about their damn feelings for each other.
How often they would like to have sex with yours.
Tony is known for being very sexually active and adventurous, so he'll be more than happy to blow off some steam with Garrus whenever he wants, sometimes even making himself late for meetings and such until Pepper starts yelling at him for it if no one's there to keep Tony on his business schedules, because sex with Garrus is more fun than board meetings or listening to the Council drone on and on about how they're not going to help.
Where they would most likely have sex with yours
Tony owns many properties throughout Citadel Space and a few in the Traverse, so there's no shortage of locations even when they're groundside somewhere rather than on the Normandy. That said, Tony's not shy about having sex anywhere in his penthouses, his mansions, his workshops, various Stark Industries board rooms (he'll set the windows to privacy mode so no one can see in), etc.
Whether they think yours would be “good” in bed
With that sniper precision and focus? Hell yes. In fact, he'd be willing to put money on Garrus being better than in bed than any of the other turians, humans, asari, or any other species he's slept with in the past.
What titles / nicknames my muse would like to call yours during sex
Tony uses pet names and gives nicknames to people all the time, so there's no telling what's going to come out at any given moment, though if Garrus wants to hear Tony call him something specific, it'd take very little coaxing to get him to do so.
Up to 3 kinks they would like to explore with yours ( with consent of course )
Tony is rather adventurous in bed, and at roughly 40, fairly experienced as well, so he tends to be far more indulgent of what his bed partners wants, since his biggest thing is making sure they're enjoying themselves thoroughly as they enjoy him. And with Garrus being a younger than he is, he'd definitely prefer to let him take the lead on that front, because there's very little Tony won't try at least once before deciding whether he likes something or not.
What sort of sex they’d prefer to have with yours ( slow & sensual, quickie, etc. )
Tony lives life fast and hard, and most of his sex life has been casual encounters full of one-night stands. Though there's often a playfulness to sex with Tony, as well as his tendency to be adventurous in general, actually forcing him to slow down and just feel would absolutely do things to him - probably even rendering him speechless, for a few minutes, at least.
What type of relationship my muse would like to form with yours. ( typical couple, friends with benefits, etc. )
He'd probably set out for a 'friends with benefits' thing with Garrus, understanding turians better than most humans, particularly where the casualness of their sex lives are concerned. When they both finally realise they've caught feelings? Garrus thinks Tony spoils him as just a friend - just wait until they're actually partners. There's plenty that Tony might get wrong in the process, because for as intelligent as the man is, he doesn't always keep track of how or why he knows a thing is associated with a person (he gifted strawberries to Pepper once, only strawberries are the one thing Pepper is allergic to; so he knew there was something about Pepper and strawberries, but lost the memo about "food allergy" somewhere along the way).

Ink and Blooms
So, the amazingly talented @autodiscothings updated her fantastic fic Acts Of Repetition recently, and the latest chapter featured an incredibly lovely turian tattoo artist. Smitten, I asked Auto if I could write a lil thing with her boy and she agreed.
So! Here’s my ode to @autodiscothings sweet turian bae, Nous. Naturally I have a human lady falling for him because I am predictable trash.
Zenellia D’kafi, the asari matriarch who ran Thessian Impressions floral boutique was a force of nature when it came to cultivating new clients.
“Everyone is a potential client,” she informed Faustine from behind a large mug of tea. “A random hanar apostle might wish to leave flowers as an offering to the Enkindlers. The elcor business man, away from home too frequently, would like a bouquet to send to his wife as a reminder he’s thinking of her.”
Faustine glanced up from where she was meticulously measuring out gold silk ribbon. “And Adamius Studios?” She glanced out the shop window to the studio across the street. It used to be a mattress store, though little of the building’s past life remained on the exterior.
Zenellia smiled, the light sparkling in her cornflower eyes. “Nous Adamius,” she said, drawing out the surname. “Now there’s an artist who’s in demand. The tattooist of the elite.” She followed Fautine’s gaze. “Hmm. In his case, he’s hosting an art exhibition for select clientele next week. The who’s-who of wealth and influence will be there--they always show up for art exhibits.”
“And our supplying the floral arrangements might garner other high-end customers in addition to Nous,” Faustine surmised.
“Smart girl,” Zenellia said, taking a prim sip of tea. “You know, I have a mind to let you finalize the arrangements with Mr. Adamius.”
“Really?” Faustine clasped her hands to her mouth with excitement. “A solo consult?”
Zenellia chuckled, leaning against the glass counter. “I’ve already discussed the arrangements with him, so this will just be hemming in the finer details. Where he wants the vases placed and so on. You’ve been with me on enough consultations and set-ups, you can do this on your own.”
“Thank you Miss Zenellia!” Faustine reigned herself in. “I can handle this,” she said, straightening her posture. “When do I meet with him?”
“Tomorrow morning, before his studio opens.”
                                                    **********
Faustine enjoyed fashion. And art and flowers and color. Her wardrobe was a blend of bright color and textures. Her grandmother used to say that she would have loved Earth back in the 1980’s and based on pictures she’d seen, Faustine was inclined to agree.
But today was professional. Her mentor was trusting her to make a good impression and Faustine needed to represent Thessian Impressions while also simultaneously reassuring Nous--Mr. Adamius--that he’d made a wise choice in ordering floral arrangements for his event and should consider doing so again.
Faustine chose a slate pant-suit with a violet camisole from the back of her closet. It was from an elite fashion line, but had been on clearance since it was from the year before. Still, as she slipped on black high heels, Faustine felt a sense of empowerment.
She hesitated over her hair. Did turians even notice human hair? Should she take the extra effort to curl it? Deciding it couldn’t hurt, Faustine brushed, curled, and styled her auburn locks until they gleamed under the artificial bathroom lights. Some mascara and bright red lipstick completed the look and before she could second guess herself, she was hailing a skycar and then stepping out in front of Adamius Studios.
She normally walked to work, but doing so in heels was out of the question. These were shoes for show, not practicality. Pulling up her omni-tool, she contacted Mr. Adamius to let him know she was from Thessian Impressions and here to speak to him.
The windows to the studio were opaque, but in a slow parade of light starting from the back of the building, the room lit up. The door opened as Faustine leaned closer to peer inside.
“Hello.”
“Hi! Mr. Adamius?”
He nodded, opening the door wider for her to enter. She’d seen him before, of course--he worked across the street. She’d never seen him up close, though. He was a good deal taller than her but held himself tightly like a curled fern frond. The effect gave him a shorter, hunched appearance.
He had pale plates, not quite white, but a light tan. His hide was a deep molten red with eyes that reminded her of orange, autumn leaves.
His most notable feature wasn't his eyes or plates or posture. He had bold, purple colony markings which ran in thick lines toward his eye sockets like a roadmap. The plating on his arms bore similar lines of the same color. Faustine wondered if colony markings extended all over the body. She’d never considered it before, but as she admired the bold, black, geometric patterns that spiraled away from his neck plating in a decorative collar, she decided that this was art, unrelated to the colony markings turians were so famous for.
Mr. Adamius cleared his throat loudly and Faustine realized with racing horror that she’d been staring at him with wide eyes and an open mouth like he were an exhibit on show.
“Oh!” It was her turn to clear her throat. “Your tattoos are beautiful,” she murmured, looking at the floor.
“Thank you.” His voice was soft. Not at all loud and bold like his art. “You work for Matriarch Zenellia?”
Faustine released a small sigh that they were moving on. “Yes, I’m her protege, as it were. She wanted me to finalize the details with you for next week.”
She smiled, tilting her head in a friendly manner. Mr. Adamius flicked out a mandible in what she associated as a turian smile, though he avoided looking her in the eyes. She wondered if that was a personality thing or something… maybe he doesn’t like me?
“I was thinking of an arrangement on the reception desk and a few smaller vases along the wall,” Mr. Adamius said, pointing to where several bed posts were mounted and functioning as coat racks. A large, framed canvas sat beneath the racks. On it was what looked like an abstract shoal of fish with luminous, foreign script weaving through it. Faustine didn’t recognize the writing but felt it safe to assume it was turian.“I discussed using a mix of thessian, earth, and palaveni flowers,” Mr. Admius continued. “I want the color scheme to stay cobalt, gold, and white, but I’m open to flower types. Nothing too lavish, the art is the focal point.”
“Zenellia mentioned that,” Faustine said, wiping away any concerns about her likability for the moment. Pulling up her omni-tool, she moved closer to Mr. Adamius to show him the samples of different arrangements in the colors he’d requested. This close, she could smell a slightly acrid scent of what she assumed was ink. But overpowering that was a woody smell that reminded her of pine trees. Mr. Adamius smells like Christmas, she thought.
She glanced up at him from where he was admiring a proposed arrangement. He was wearing loose fitted clothes that placed his heavily inked hide on full display. Zenella had mentioned he was younger, but the asari considered everyone younger since she herself was 876 years old.
Nous seems like he’s my age. Maybe a little older. Early to mid thirties?
“I like this one best,” he said, oblivious to her internal musings. Faustine looked at the arrangement he’d chosen. It was the one she’d put together. Not the four Zenella had proposed, but the one she had done.
“I did that one,” she told him proudly.
“It’s beautiful,” he said in a softer voice, looking not at her eyes, but seemingly her hair. “It’ll work perfectly for what I have planned.”
Instead of replying Faustine responded by grinning at him like an idiot. She was high on accomplishment, she’d convince herself later. But it was thanks to this that Mr. Adamius nervously glanced away, toward a small, unassuming painting partially concealed by the reception desk.
“Is that an anchor?” She pointed at the familiar shape which was the main subject of the painting.
“Yes. I’m fond of the nautical themes found in all cultures. The convergence of design between them, be they human, asari, or turian. We’re all interconnected by the oceans of our worlds.” He let out a quiet hum, unfurling from his tightly held hunch. “It reminds me of my childhood, too, I suppose.”
“You grew up near the ocean?” Faustine asked curiously. “I thought turians weren’t the biggest fans of deep, open water. No offense!” she added, horrified she’d possibly insulted him.
His easy chuckle immediately set her at ease. “Overall, you’re right. Most turians avoid the open ocean. But my homeworld is different.” His mandibles flicked outward as he looked down at his hands. The three fingers of his left hand each bore a small fish tattoo on the knuckle. “Rocam has a huge fishing industry. I grew up around the sea and fishing boats. My childhood involved lots of fishing and playing in the surf. Eating charred salmo around a beach fire with my grandparents. Listening to fisherman swap stories on the wharf.”
Faustine watched the fish tattoos flex with his fingers. Remembering the other canvas leaning against the wall, she looked closer at the framed picture. The fish looked like they were formed from ink splats, honed with a pen to give them more definition and shape.
“You did that?” she asked pointing.
Turning, Mr. Adamius nodded. “I did all the nautical themed paintings in here,” he said. Faustine felt like the quiet, rolling subvocals under the spoken words were proud.
“You’re so talented,” she sighed, feeling mildly envious. “Do you have other paintings like that one?”
“Yes, but they’re in the back. I’ll put them out next week for the exhibit.”
“Oh.”
“I…” a soft whine escaped through his tightly clamped mandibles. “Would you, um. Like to come to the exhibit?”
“Your art exhibit next week? Of course I’d love to go!” Faustine forced herself to school her features into a more poised look. “I mean, if you’re inviting me, I’d absolutely love to see the rest of your work.”
Nous let out a huff of air. “It’s not just my work, all the artists in the studio are going to display something. But if you’d like to come, I’d love to see you. At the event.” He cleared his throat, stepping away from her personal space which at some point he’d entered.
“Thank you,” Faustine whispered, feeling a blush creep over her cheeks. “Um, I’ll let Zenella know which arrangement you selected and where and how many you wanted.” She made to head for the door, but forgetting her high heels, tripped and nearly collapsed face first into the deep blue and white rug.
A strong arm seized her around the waist and held her until she was steady on her feet again. “Damn shoes,” she muttered, more embarrassed then she’d been in years. “Nous, I--”
“Not a problem. Are you all right?”
“Fine, I’m fine. Only thing injured is my pride.” She gave him a sheepish smile, sure her face was beet red.
For the first time since she’d entered his studio, Nous looked her in the eye. “Wounded pride isn’t the worst injury,” he said in that soft, smokey voice.
She stared into the swirling amber of his irises. Turians had smaller eyes than humans, but their gaze was intense. She wondered what he thought about her own hazel eyes.
He bowed his head after a moment, rubbing the back of his neck. “So, I’ll see you at the exhibit?”
“Before that, actually,” she replied, blinking away whatever trance she’d fallen under. “I’ll bring the flowers by an hour before your exhibit starts.”
“I look forward to seeing you then.”
So do I, Faustine thought, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear as she headed out the door. So do I.

Tali: Shepard, why don't you ever date anyone?
Shepard: Too busy focusing on the mission
Tali: But none of them seem to mind if you're busy... and many military members make relationships work...
Shepard, a little shifty eyed: Well, I guess I'm just bad at it-
Tali, watching Shepard get even weirder when Garrus walks by, refusing to look anyone in the eye: Oh
Tali: You just like that one
Tali: And you're acting like a teenager about it
Tali, falling into giggles: This is hilarious
Shepard, covering her face in embarrassment: Please don't tell anyone
Tali: And miss all the fun of watching this awkward situation implode? Never
