I’ve seen the “Liara taking Shepards DNA and making a kid for the next game” theory floating around and ngl if that happens I might actually kill myself. That would be as bad as Alistair and Morrigan having to have sex and make a baby to save the day but at least that’s a choice that you don’t have to make. But if Liara takes Shepard’s DNA and makes a kid without consent even if you don’t romance her that will actually be my final reason.
But if it is Liara’s kid then have her have it with Feron or whatever. Because otherwise it’ll just feel like Gil forcing you to have a baby in Mass Effect Andromeda.

I had the sudden urge to draw them. Gotta say, I've had worse attempts at drawing a character for the first time. Love how cheesy it turned out.
Please don't repost my art. Thank you.

Oooo, you play mass effect, it finally clicked in my head. Who do you romance in Andromeda?
Also, I really did enjoy the game regardless of the amount of hate it got
ZOMG, you must've missed me at my most Andromeda obsessed, lol! I haven't actually been able to play it since last November, when my previous computer gave out and then this one has been super lousy. However, as soon as I can hopefully get my Vegas back on and thus be able to GIF (and vid) again, I'm planning on going back to Andromeda to finally finish the big Ryder twins romance GIF project I had going, lol!
In short, I've romanced every single option available except Scott/Peebee and Scott/Jaal. Scott/Peebee was in progress when I got derailed. But here are some posts I've made about various things, if you'd like to see them!
Sara's romances with Jaal, Reyes, Peebee and Vetra
Scott/Cora and the shocking, unexpected Scott/Harry romance 😂😜
I was working on the Scott/Gil vid here
I've vidded Sara/Reyes, Scott/Cora, Scott/Gil and my final vid ever was about Scott and his dad, Alec
Mass Effect: Andromeda incorrect quotes
Me at the bottom talking about doing an Insanity run and showing my Sara in her Mjolnir-like tanky armor plus the name of my crafted weapons 😂
I absolutely adore this game and I've honestly missed playing it so much! Also, did you know that Kate Kennedy aka Kai from Halo is the voice of one of the Angara?
Tumblr media
I romanced Avela as Scott JUST for that fact alone, lol!
Anyway, like I said, I never did get the chance to finish making GIFs for all of my romances and I still hope to finish those last two for Scott. As for which are my favs...
Sara: Reyes. I'm a sucker for that scoundrel, what can I say? 😍😇 But Vetra is a close second. I have to physically restrain myself from flirting with her if I'm planning on romancing somebody else because there's no way I'd hurt my best Turian girl like that! 😱😉
Scott: Gil surprisingly became my favorite "I have to make SURE not to click the flirt options if I'm romancing somebody else" romance. I also, no surprise, loved his romance with Reyes. Cora also was great!
I honestly really enjoyed all of the romance options, except for Keri's (the reporter) and not for any fault of hers but I disliked how she looks kinda uncomfortable with either Ryder flirting with her while she's just trying to do her job. I felt like a real creep, I have to say! 😩Then at the end, after I've annoyed this poor Asari at her workplace this entire time, the "payoff" was we went from a table at the Vortex to Ryder's just suddenly outside of her room? Not even a kiss? 🫤(I legit have headcanoned that Keri never actually let Ryder into her room, just went in herself, closed the door, and left them out in the hall, lol! "That's for continuing to come on to me and never taking the hint while I'm clearly just doing my job, you creep!" 😖😂😉)
If I could've romanced Evfra *points up at his pic above* I totally would have because I'm a sucker for a good "enemies to lovers" trope, lol! And I think Evfra would haaaaate himself for falling for the human Pathfinder. 😍😍😍
I clearly have put a lot of silly thoughts into Andromeda, lol! Anyway, thanks so much for letting me ramble about this! Who did you romance? Have you played as both twins or do you prefer just the one? Default or custom? Do you mod? My computer was coming off the rails at the time so I've only stuck to what's available in-game but I've seen some beautiful Ryder twins and some awesome clothing options with mods. 😉💖💖💖

N7 Month, 2023 - Day 16: Storm
A soft little go-nowhere fluff piece for Ryder and Gil
++
It hadn’t been in Ryder’s plan to stop for long on Eos. A quick drop in with the Vault to ensure that everything was still running smoothly beneath the surface. But once they’d sat down in Prodromos, Vetra had gotten Kallo mixed up in some haptic interface optimizers one of the research scientists was working on, and so they stayed an extra few hours so those could be installed.
Of course there’d been a fire fight with the Kett on the way back from the Vault. Once they returned to the Tempest—and just as Vetra and Kallo had promised to be back aboard—Drack had gotten an urgent and private communique and had tracked off into the wastes, said he’d be back in four hours.
Then, of course, Liam decided—as long as they had the time—he could fiddle with the Nomad and finally install the stereo he’d first purchased back on the Nexus weeks ago. This still wasn’t done as Drack came back, armor scuffed and face blackened with soot, and so they waited.
Ryder was trying not to hover over Liam’s work, and had instead sat down by the big windows at the back of the ship, read a book, and watched the light on Eos go from burning bright, to a dusky orange.
“There you are,” Gil came up the stairs, gave Ryder a furtive grin. “I was looking at the weather report out of Prodromos. Looks like there’s going to be a big storm just skirting the edge of the mountains over there.”
“Hm,” Ryder didn’t pay it much attention, but warmly smiled at Gil as he sat down next to him. “A what? A storm?”
“Yeah, you know, kind Eos was famous for. Well, before the Pathfinder opened the Vault and made it livable again.” He looked at Ryder expectantly, but Scott only shrugged. “Do you want to go up on the ridge and watch the storm roll in with me?” He waggled his eyebrows.
“Gil,” Scott gave a worried look at the falling sun. “Soon as Liam’s done in town, we’ve got to get back in space.”
“Please, Scott?” Gil leaned in, lifted an eyebrow. “Do this with me?”
Scott sighed.
Twenty minutes later, they were atop the ridge, the Tempest and Prodromos small and distant down below. As the sun set, the sandstorm blew across the horizon. It was a tendril of living black that seemed to flow parallel to the ground, its interior flashing sparks of blue and green as the static within churned. As it poured before the setting sun, it turned to gold along its edges, casting a shadow that came almost to the foot of the ridge they were sitting on. They sat comfortably, sprawled on the rocks, side by side. They listened to the faintest of distant thunder rumbles and the sound of the wind growing calm as it spread from the storm.
“This really is beautiful,” Scott said softly. He leaned his head on Gil’s shoulder. “It’s funny, when we first set down here, I hated the constant storms. All the time, destroying everything we were trying to build. I’ve never seen one like this.”
“Me either,” Gil put his arm around Scott and leaned back against a rock. “On Earth, I used to watch the storms go over the hills. Never seen a big sandstorm like this, though.”
Ryder looked down at his wrist, noticed the communication light on his omni-tool was blinking. Probably Kallo telling him they were finally ready to go. The sun sank below the horizon, its last rusted hues swallowed up by the storm, until it was dark and only the distant lightning gave any indication the storm was still there. But Scott could still feel it, static scintillating on the air. It made him hold Gil tight, breathe in the ozone and the faintest hint of Gil’s soap.
“Thanks,” Scott said at last. “This is… part of why I love you, honestly. Nights like this. Gives me perspective on things.”
“You’re welcome,” Gil chuckled, turning his face into the breeze from the south. “Honestly, I just wanted to watch the storm. I wanted to watch it with you, I mean,” In the dim light, Scott could barely see Gil’s eyes. “Share something else with the man I’m sharing my life with.”
Scott smiled. They had better be heading back, they could be in space in an hour, and back to the Nexus by tomorrow afternoon. But, with a sigh, he made up his mind that they would spend the night planet-side. He couldn’t explain why, something about perspective.

I wanted to restart playing Mass Effect. My first Mass Effect game was Mass Effect 3, with no dlc. My first romance was the one and only Kaidan Alenko. After I completed my playthrough, I got all the games and dlc. I have played Andromeda since the launch. It wasn't perfect, it had some issues. After the first patch a lot was fixed. Scott will be romancing Gil Brodie. I would recommend the whole Mass Effect series to anyone who loves RPG and Sci-Fi.

They Include You preview
Jaal had never known any other time in his life that he had been so terrified, or at the very least, he couldn't think of one now. The time he felt closest to this feeling, on the top of his head, was back at the Archon's flagship.
Yet this was worse. Back at the flagship, S.A.M. had some degree of guarantee that he could bring Scott back. However this time, S.A.M. being forcibly taken was the reason Scott was down once more.
Jaal had checked for a pulse, as he had Liam tell him to do after they'd return to the Tempest with the relic that seemed like such a long time ago.
He felt nothing.
Barely keeping himself from going to hysterics, Jaal stood upright once more and tried contacting the Tempest once more while Drack tried forcing the door open by brute force alone.
"Rrrgh! Open!"
"Tempest, the Pathfinder is down!" Jaal growled into his Omni-tool for the umpteenth time, "Come in!"
Fear was clenching his heart tightly in its fist, and Jaal could hardly breath. He couldn't lose his Taoshay, not to the Kett. Skutt, not to anything.
As if it was an answered prayer, that was the moment they heard a sharp intake of breath and see Scott sitting up. Not even waiting five minutes, he zoned into the console and staggered towards it.
"Ryder! You were dead."
Jaal would've made a comment that stating the obvious wasn't necessary, but he was still reeling in his emotions. He wanted to hug Scott, to kiss him for all he was worth, to cry tears of relief and gratitude that he wasn't forever lost to him. But the Angara had been too stunned to react, and Scott's urgency to keep moving despite just coming back from the dead...
Again.
Ignoring the remark, the Pathfinder leaned heavily against the Console, as if his body was drained of energy once more after Scott took a few steps towards the console.
"The Hyperion's dark, S.A.M. with it..." Scott huffed, "We need to get back."
Understanding the implications of that statement, Jaal looked alarmed. "Wait, wait! That door is Remnant," he emphasized, like Scott needed the reminder. "You need S.A.M."
"We need" Scott strained, yet he sounded more determined than usual. "to get back."
Planning to write a complete fic of this in ao3

Playing Mass Effect Andromeda and seeing that Zaeed's son was there but remembering Zaeed made me realize that I forgot about the ME2 rather quickly. The only ones who really left an imprint were Grunt, Mordin, Thane and Jack. And I only liked Mordin in 3 , I liked Thane because he was actually interesting and fleshed out, I adore Grunt because I like Krogan's anyways and again, I only got really attached to Jack in 3, like I did Mordin.
I forgot all about the Asari milf justice car lady, the thief lady and.... idk who else there was. I remember Garrus and Tali but I'm gonna be honest, even though I like her, I forget Tali exists sometimes and Garrus has been homie since 1 so he's never gonna be forgettable. Even though Tali was in that one too.
I feel more attachment to the crew in Andromeda than the ME2 crew, even though they're kinda meh in their own ways sometimes, but they're honestly funny and I have fun with them. Drack, Jaal, Vetra, Cora, PeeBee, Suvi, Kallo, hell, even Gil and Lexi and I barely talk to those two at all because I find them boring, I barely even talk to Liam's annoying ass, but their background chatter with each is fucking hilarious, walking into the room and seeing Vetra and Jaal tell off Cora over a board game analogy almost made me pee myself.
I never really got moments like that in ME2, unless it was with Garrus.
ME2 was Suicide Squad 2016 while Mass Effect Andromeda was The Suicide Squad 2021. Meanwhile ME3 (even though I haven't finished 3 yet) was Guardians of The Galaxy and ME1 was just... idk, I don't have a movie analogy for it, fucking any military movie.

Why does Mass Effect hate Gay Men?
So, I know I'm pretty late to the party, and plenty of people have said it better, but I've finally been getting around to playing the Mass Effect games, and I can't sleep until I get this out there. Also, apologies that I'm all over the place. It all just adds up, you know?
Disclaimer: There is a lot to really like about Mass Effect. This isn't a review, just an attempt to voice a frustration.
Where to start? I first played Mass Effect in ~2010. I was in college, and still very repressed pretending that homosexuality is totally a choice. Like most people, I imagine, I really appreciated the way that I could tailor Shepherd to my vision. He wasn't a blank slate self-insert, but had just enough flexibility that it was really easy to slip into that skin and imagine I was a badass commander out saving the galaxy.
Then the end happened and Ashley raped me. Obviously with Shepherd it was consensual, but for me identifying and connecting with Shepherd it felt deeply violating. I was leaning heavily into Paragon, and genuinely thought I was just being a good nice person. I had hardly ever spoken with Ashley, and I didn't think I had said anything particularly suggestive that was the direction I wanted to go. As a result I swore off everything Mass Effect for over a decade.
I've grown a lot since then. It's finally time to give it a fair shake. I still don't want any unpleasant surprises, so I did a bunch of research to figure out what I want to do about romance. Of course I ran into the same problem that every gay man playing Mass Effect runs into. Where are the m/m romance options? It's fine though. I decide I'm going to save myself for Gay Kaiden, and honestly it's very poignant. It's frustrating that it took 3 entire games to pay off, but even that worked into the character arc nicely.
So I played through the trilogy, hated the ending, but overall really appreciated the moments I got with Kaiden. It was pretty emotional for me too, just because it made me realize how much I needed that kind of representation. It was a catharsis to the trauma of being pushed into sleeping with Ashley a decade ago.
Moving on to Andromeda, there's still not nearly enough gay representation, but it's ok. I'm down with Gil. Then there was the scene that set off this spiral. Gil casually mentions that his only friend Jill gives him crap for being a gay genetic dead end. I tell him that's not cool, and he brushes it off. This is deeply uncomfortable, but maybe they salvage it. I have to know more.
End preamble, begin rant: Why does Mass Effect hate Gay Men?
What the ever living fuck. Gil's *entire* character ark is his "best friend" pressuring him into being her baby daddy. The first thing I had to know is who wrote this and are they gay. If they're gay themself, then maybe they're just speaking to personal experience that I happen to find distasteful and unrelatable. I couldn't find out much about the guy, but I suspect not.
So first - To straight writers writing gay characters: Just write them straight. Kaiden was written in such a way that it works either way, and it *works*. Yes, I want gay characters that deal with uniquely gay issues, but I don't trust you. To explore something as deeply personal and fraught as a gay man choosing whether or not to have children and how is not a plotline you just slap together. Just write them straight and then flip the pronouns and descriptors when appropriate.
But now I'm just gah! We've already established they're extremely lacking in the m/m romance options, but let's take a look. Gil and Cortez, the two exclusively gay men. Why are there no gay men party members? For fuck's sake! Every single exclusively gay (and lesbian?) romance option is confined to the ship. Just... I think you already know how fucked up that is, so I'm going to stop.
To move on to character arcs. I've seen people defend this, but frankly shove off. It's like these narratives' primary purpose is to make sure that everyone knows they're gay. It's show don't tell gone horribly, horribly wrong. You want to know how you show that a gay man is gay? Show them flirting with men. You don't need to consume the entire character arc showing how Cortez has a dead husband and Gil might not have children. I can cut Cortez some slack since dead spouse isn't a specifically gay arc, but even the way it's presented just puts way too much emphasis on the "husband" part.
But speaking of specifically gay character arcs... Maybe whether or not to have children isn't specifically to highlight that Gil is gay... Oh wait it totally is. This game is *loaded* with interspecies romances that will never have children. Why is the only relationship where this "problem" is highlighted the one for which it might be deeply traumatic?
I can't talk about interspecies romance without talking about the Asari. Perhaps it's the first problem, but for me it will have to be the last. I know it's been beaten to death, and scrutinized from every angle, but it's just so bad. In many ways the Asari are at the heart of the "Why does Mass Effect hate gay men" problem. A mono-gendered, naturally bisexual species that exists to fetishize lesbians for the benefit of a straight male audience. (Anyone who says they aren't technically female deserves to be punched in the face)
So with that I'll conclude: Bioware owes gay men big time for this travesty. Make a mono-gendered, naturally bisexual species that's coded as male. I dare you.

"Say You Won't Let Go" (Scott Ryder/Gil Brodie, Mass Effect: Andromeda)
"You made me feel as though I was enough..." Gil's point of view on his relationship with the Pathfinder.
I decided to playthrough every available romance for both Scott and Sara and I was honestly floored by how much I loved Scott and Gil! They just seem to have such *happiness* in being together, it really hit me right in my fangirly heart. When I stumbled across this song, I immediately wanted to vid it for them. (And I was pleasantly surprised that there was enough footage ~barely~ to support Gil's p.o.v., lol 😉)
If you choose to watch, I hope you enjoy! I'm pretty sure that Andromeda's not done with me yet so expect to see a couple more vids set in the Heleus Cluster whenever something strikes my muse's fancy. 💖
PS - If Gil's voice actor sounds familiar, that's because he's Gethin Anthony, who played Renly Baratheon in Game of Thrones. 😉
