I love your writing omg <3 it's MARVELOUS I'm so jealous!! could you do finnick odair flirting with a shy!gn!reader? Like he calls them cute and they just freak out and hide into their shirt or a blanket, etc etc? And he just keeps flirting until reader just covers his mouth and they make eye contact and it's a HUZZAH moment before finnick just kisses them?? sorry if this is really specific!! thank you if you fulfill this request <3
A Little Shy
Finnick Odair x Reader
Hunger Games Masterlist
Summary: you go out to town to find some supplies for fishing as it's the perfect season. You find yourself inexperienced with tridents, and someone comes along to help you find the perfect one to fit your needs.
Note: this is a super cute request and will probably take awhile to post because I want to make sure it is absolutely perfect, also thank you!! I try my best to write as nicely as possible
Warnings: mention of death and killing, slap (hand over mouth)
You had wanted to go to the market in district 4 for awhile, wanting to see what there was to offer at this time of the month. It was the prime time for fishing, so a lot of people had been stocking up.
You stayed for a few hours getting the basic supplies, making your way over to the tridents. You had never been a pro even as a district 4 victor, but had always admired people who were able to use a Trident so easily.
You looked around slowly at all they had to offer, wondering at that point if maybe you should get your own and try it out.
"that one's nice, huh?"
You jumped at the voice that came from behind you, quickly turning around. You should've recognized the voice, of course it was Finnick.
Naturally, you got shy knowing how much you admired his Trident skills as he'd won with them as the youngest in the arena. You hated the games, but loved the skills of the weapons that came with it.
"are you good at using a trident? I've never seen you use one"
He was watching you? I mean he was your mentor back then, but you were really a nobody. You thought your win was a bit sad compared to other people who had won with skill. It was the career in you talking, quickly coming back to realize the horror that came behind it all and that you were lucky to be standing here alive right now.
"not really, I'd love to learn though.."
Your voice was quiet and faded off as you glared at other ones surrounding the two of you.
"how about you come down to my house later and I'll teach you a few tricks y/n?"
You turned to him, his charming smile placed on his face as he found your eyes.
"sure"
A blush found your cheeks, a little intimidated to be taught to use a trident by the Finnick Odair. Even though you should've learned how to use a Trident in the training for the games, you focused on your hand to hand combat and nature tips and tricks then the main weapon of your district. It made you feel a little more reassured that you wouldn't die by accidentally eating the wrong type of berry.
You picked out a trident fitting to your hand, comfortable in your hold. Then it was time to start walking to the victors village that was surrounded by ocean. Their backyards went out to a beautiful beach, and then water. Constant, neverending water leaving room to do anything you aspire to.
The walk was peaceful, as usual. The weather was hotter than usual so if you were going to be in the water, why not change into a bathing suit? You quickly went home and put on a bathing suit beneath your clothing, hiding it before you got to his house.
You knocked on his door, his footsteps getting closer and your heartbeat faster. The anxiety hit as he opened the door. You just now realized his height compared to yours and how shy you were. It's the Finnick Odair. How could you not be a little scared?
"come in"
He said with the same charming smile as before, gesturing for you to sit anywhere you'd like. His place was nicely decorated, ocean themed items around you at every turn. Tridents sat on the wall, some framed and some just hung as a decoration.
He had gone to the kitchen, his back turned towards the living room. You looked at his hair that always looked amazing and you wanted to ruffle it and run your hands through it- wait. We're you actually thinking of.. no. This was Finnick Odair. Loved by the capitol, loved by the people in his district and by the other victors. He was an amazing person despite what he had gone through, most not being able to handle it all.
He brought out some cookies and sat them on the table in front of you. He sat down, the couch dipping with the new weight beside you slightly pulling you toward him, slowly sliding. Your cheeks now had a light blush again from simply being in his presence. His eyes glistened in the light of his house, his hair fluffy and his face charming and cute. You thought Finnick Odair was cute. The Finnick Odair.
He stared at you for awhile before breaking the silence.
"soo, you've never picked up a Trident before y/n?"
You nodded your head no. He sort of knew when he was training you many years ago, just a year older than you, wondering why you didn't pick up a trident. He admired your other abilities back then, knowing how to identify different leafs or berries and hand to hand combat were great abilities in general, but especially because you got put in the arena where you'd need just those skills, like it was almost fit for your win.
It's funny because you were by far the shyest tribute he had ever seen, you didn't talk much or make a fuss like many other tributes had done, but instead listened and took any and all information and tips and tricks from the past victors that only wanted to help. Why did people go out of their way to make a fuss?
Your head was turned down from his, scared to actually make eye contact with him no matter your past relationship.
"you can look at me y'know. I don't bite?"
He laughed, your head hesitantly turning upwards, scared that you'll reveal the layer of red forming on your now heat-radiating cheeks.
"no need to be nervous, y/n."
He said, and you swear he was teasing you at this point. You looked into the distance again, seeing him taking in your facial features from your peripheral vision. His eyes widened a bit before his classic smile appeared on his face that he always wore, except it seems a little more.. genuine than before.
"you're cute."
Your eyes then met with his again, and now greatly flustered in front of the man. He memorized your face in the moment, how your cheeks gained more color and your eyes widened. You couldn't even make words come out of your mouth, your heartbeat pounding too loud and mind too fuzzy to make a coherent sentence.
"huh-?!"
Was all that came out of your mouth. He slowly lifted himself up to where his arms were to the side of your face. You quickly pulled up your shirt, covering your slowly reddening face to where you might've been radiating heat, heat that he must've felt through the fabrics that layered because it was so warm.
"You're so cute. Shy hm?"
Your heartbeat pounded louder and louder within your chest as you once again admired the man who was above your sitting, now laying form. You buried yourself even deeper within your shirt before he could see even more obvious and powerful hints of red on the rest of your face.
"look at you. So red. You like me calling you cute sweetheart?"
A slap echoed in the room as you couldn't handle it anymore. You put your hand over his mouth, your heart not being able to take anymore of his flirting. You could feel his signature grin form under your hand as he put his hand on your arm. His hand slowly slid up til it reached yours, taking it and kissing the outside of your palm.
Your eyes met with his sea green. His other hand creeped onto your cheek, his head slowly getting closer to yours.
his lips collided with yours with a deep need to feel your lips for the first time. He deepened the kiss, his soft lips feeling amazing on yours. You couldn't believe your first kiss was with the Finnick Odair. Part of it because you were already in your twenties and you had never kissed anyone before, not having any partners when you were younger. But mostly because it was him.
You let him take the lead, not knowing what else to do. You let go as you had to take a breath even though you never wanted to let go of his soft lips, feeling like you had been in another world while kissing him.
"promise me you won't explode if I kiss you again?"
He laughed as you nodded, going in again for another kiss that had sucked you in, captured you.
You had just kissed Finnick Odair. Twice.

I need people to love Cato as much as I do. I don't see enough Cato love. The way he died was atrocious but people just forget about him because he was a career and an obstacle that Katniss had to get through.
(Don't get me started on the careers. I will defend them forever.)
But he got the worst death in the series for me. It lasted for hours. He was chewed apart by mutts. He screamed and whimpered and begged for it to end. But Katniss let it drag on because she knew it's what the Capitol wanted to see. And she had one arrow left that she wrapped Peetas leg off with.
Even at 12 I knew the boy didn't deserve the way he died. It was the worst way any of them went. Most of them had fast deaths at the very least. The movie really did a disservice cutting it out. It was good to see him go a little more gently but the book showed the horror of it.
Even if you hated him by the time he died you was begging for it to end as well.

Like the music in the new Hunger Games movie but not really know anything about folk/bluegrass/country? Here are some quick recs to get you started!
(This is not comprehensive and the genres here are a little whack, these are just songs I listen to as someone raised on good Appalachian vibes. Not necessarily from just Appalachian artists, particularly in the second section. Just think it’s nice that people are getting more exposure to folk + bluegrass!)
Protest Songs / Coal Criticism
(Hazel Dickens I would give you smooches.. also these are just the ones living in my playlists rn)
“You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive,” Patty Loveless
“The L and N Don’t Stop Here Anymore,” Jean Ritchie
“Coal Tattoo,” and I’m exercising my free will and linking the Hazel Dickens version
“The Yablonski Murder,” Hazel Dickens
“Coal,” Tyler Childers
“Trip to Hyden,” Tom T. Hall
“Coal Miner’s Daughter,” Loretta Lynn
“Devil Put the Coal in the Ground,” Steve Earle
Assorted Personal Favorites
(where my love for Sierra Ferrell is really on display)
“West Virginia Waltz,” Sierra Ferrell
“Across the Great Divide,” Nanci Griffith
“Blue Ridge Mountain,” Hurray for the Riff Raff
“Iowa (Traveling, Pt. 3),” Dar Williams
“Rhododendron,” Bella White
“Boulder to Birmingham,” Emmylou Harris

The heart broken look on Katniss’s face when Peeta volunteers in CF. She could have handled her second reaping without losing her composure if Peeta did not have to come with her. She could have handled the thought of killing again, dying, never seeing Prim again… if in the back of her mind she had hope Peeta was somewhere safe and away from the Capitol. Peeta was better at acting than she was anyways, he was better at life after the games. He could make it. She just wanted him to be okay. More than she wanted to live, she wanted Peeta to be okay.

One of my favorite undercurrent themes from The Hunger Games is how Katniss and Peeta use the power of intuition and self-trust to win, and eventually overthrow an entire tyrannical government.
I’ve always felt that the Hunger Games movies were pretty decent in regards to being a faithful book adaptation. I mean, we’ve seen a lot worse (hello, Ender’s Game), and it felt like the central idea of the story was at least preserved. The characters felt true to themselves most of the time, and important relationships were mostly kept. Plus we got extra Effie, so.
But the thing I miss the most from the books is the first person point of view, especially the inner dialogue Katniss had during the first games, and how much she had to really trust her own intuition to survive.
In the movie, when supplies were delivered from Haymitch, a note with context is included so that we don’t have to guess what the items are for, and because there was no way to really portray that on screen since the POV was changed to an omniscient and silent narrator. When she receives the jar of medicine from Haymitch, there’s a little note that reads “You call that a kiss!” So that Katniss will understand that she needs to amp up the romance between her and Peeta so that sponsors will send more supplies.
But in the books, Katniss has to just use her intuition to understand and make connections between her behavior and the appearance of sponsor drones. She doesn’t get any convenient little notes with explanations in the drones. But Katniss is a successful hunter because she has learned pattern recognition, and she is able to use this skill to anticipate and manipulate a situation in her favor. She is astute and calculating-because that’s what survival requires. She figures out what Haymitch is communicating to her by understanding who he is as a mentor and remembering his words before the games. Which is impressive considering that she is half starving and being hunted by the other tributes, along with caring for Peeta when he is injured.
And even though he figures out that Katniss used his kisses as leverage for sponsors, Peeta understands why she had to. Peeta sees Katniss for who she is, and loves her for it. In fact, before the Capitol gets to him, Peeta trusts Katniss implicitly. Not because he is just a simp for her, but because he has the ability to use his intuition and trusts his own judgment about her character. This is a power that few people have, and it balances them out equally.
Both agree to eat the berries without hesitation. Katniss can trust Peeta because she first learned to trust herself. Peeta can trust Katniss because he first learned to trust himself.
This is how they survived.

The role of Fashion in The Hunger Games saga a brief analysis.
Ok now with the hunger games renaissance we need to discuss the role Cinna plays in the whole series, and the role of fashion in the hunger games. I read this series when I was 11-12 years old, I grew to become a very, very queer fashion designer (I work for drag queens), I didn't think I truly understood how much THG series impacted me until very recently when I saw/read the whole series again. Like yes, Suzanne Collins makes the Capitol this shallow society, putting a real effort in making their citizens be superficial only caring about their looks, looking super extravangant and absolutely disconnected from the suffering of the districts. While their looks are vibrant, large, shimmery, and totally over the top (showcasing their opulence) the way they dress on the districts (specially 12 and 13) is minimalist, modest, the colors are washed, old. Their each other's antithesis. And of course Katniss expects only that from the people of the Capitol (classic Us vs. Them), and when Cinna, whom I think is very queer coded, comes in, and treats her like a human being, she starts to let her walls down, to let herself be guided trough this horrible thing she's got to endure. In the books when Cinna and his team are pampering her, she doesn't see herself as a symbol, she never really wanted to be one, she feels really dehumanized. Her only motivation upon this point is surviving and get back to Prim on her home, she still thinks everything on the Capitol in stupid and unnecessary. It's only when Cinna puts them in this very intricate and thought out looks inspired by their district industry (coal mining) that I think Katniss starts to understand the power of fashion, the power of symbols.
And later in her interview with Caesar we have the infamous red dress that catches fire and that lefts the audience gagged (if any of y'all have been to a drag show you know how amazing a good reveal is). This moment is so important because now fashion doesn't become something merely functional, or oppressive. Fashion is empowering, this moment is Katniss getting confidence in herself, asserting herself over her circumstances thanks to Cinna, thanks to fashion. It's also very brilliant because this is also catered to the Capitol, to the viewers and consumers of the games. One of the first things Haymitch tells Katniss is to make herself desirable, and this totally makes sense, the Capitol now roots for her, relate to her, so that later she can get sponsors and SURVIVE.
Tumblr media
On Catching Fire we have another iconic fashion moment, fire is a very present theme for Katniss. She is of course the spark for the rebellion, and when she understood it, the message not only becomes clearer, it becomes a protest against the games, against the Capitol. The way she and Peeta are almost regal their second time on the games, shows how much she's understood the power of fashion, the power of the message it can send. They look like a piece of coal refusing to cool, refusing to stop burning. And this was all Cinna's mind.
Tumblr media
And my absolute favorite. The wedding dress, such and iconic moment and dare I say, a pivotal moment for the rebellion. In the books Katniss and Peeta are doomed to keep their fake relationship for PR reasons, so they get engaged, and make their whole wedding (bear in mind they're both 17 ish here) a reality show-esque moment for the Capitol. Even after they've won, they still have to entertain them, a winner can never rest. The districts are never winners. So when Snow decides to make his personal quest that of making Katniss miserable, thus making his All Star version of the games, knowing district 12 only has 1 female winner...oh if that isn't some evil shit. On top of that, he is the one who request she wears her wedding dress to the interview, the dress that symbolizes all she never wanted (get married, have kids, loose her agency, being controlled by the Capitol). Snow does this hopping Katniss feels ALL THAT, and Cinna being the genius designer he fucking is, turns a 180 on it and gets the wedding dress as a façade, he uses the dress as a symbol of the tragic lovers that never got to wed, the wedding the Capitol never got to see because of the games. And it works. It fucking works.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then, the dress burns up revealing a beautiful black dress with wings, a mockingjay, she literally becomes the rebellion, she embodies the rebellion and all that comes with it. The power of fashion in the middle of an uprising, and how much it strikes the Capitol because it's said in their language. All of these moments were essential in the history because the people on the districts already knew about the injustices, about the hardships of their conditions. But the consumers didn't. And Cinna, trough Katniss made them see that, he took everything that made the Capitol shallow and gave actual meaning to it. And without of all of it, who knows if the rebellion would've gestated as fast.
Tumblr media
TL;DR: the hunger games saga made me a fashion designer, and fashion is really important in the story, dare I say it's a really clever use of fashion and Cinna is a FUCKING genius.

The Hunger Games movies were fantastic but the one thing that sucks is the fact Peeta is not an amputee. I feel like with this Hunger Games resurgence is forgetting Peeta has a prosthetic in Catching Fire on.

In the midst of this Hunger Games Renaissance here and on TikTok, I am a little upset that I have yet to see someone do a Hunger Games Version of the "Every Friend Group should include" sound. So since I am currently off TikTok for the sake of my mental health (I've been stuck on PoliTikTok since the Nashville shooting), I have decided to do it myself here.
Every Friend group should include:
A mean Bisexual
Tumblr media
An even meaner Lesbian
Tumblr media
He/Theys
Tumblr media
She/Theys
Tumblr media
A Token Straight that's on Thin Ice
Tumblr media
(Or if you want to exclude the Prim Reaper from the Friend group)

And Last But not Least...
A Short King

Sleepover
Peeta Mellark x Reader
Hunger Games Masterlist
Summary: waiting for the revolution to take place in district 13, you and Peeta decide to have your first sleepover before everything goes down.
Warnings: weight insecurity/body image
You never knew when it was dark out, relying on the timing of district 13 to tell you when it was lights out. It had been a weird switch. Staying underground constantly made you feel a little claustrophobic in a sense, like you weren't able to ever go above ground.
You hated how an easily erased schedule made your whole day, you wished you'd have more free time throughout. Although you really didn't care about the classes, you'd still gone to them and took notes, knowing how over dramatic they are about their schedules. It's like if you're off by one minute, you've automatically messed up their whole system.
You walked back to your little housing situation, sharing one with Peeta, your best friend. And now because of the games your relationship has progressed into a romantic one, needing to quickly as you wouldn't have been able to make it out of the games alive if not.
The capitol had rushed it, making everything go by so fast. You two couldn't enjoy simple moments together, Peeta proposing immediately after the tours you had been through. Just for the pleasure of the capitol and Snow. You both absolutely couldn't stand Snow, so being in district 13 helped a lot.
"I'm so tired"
You yawned loudly as you collapsed onto his bed, it being the closest to you from where you were.
"hey! I just made that"
"too bad"
Your body relaxed on his bed, taking in the scent of him that calmed you. No matter what it was, if it was of him it always comforted you.
"hey- what are you doing!?"
You felt his hands on your waist, and all of a sudden he had lifted you over his shoulder. You were pretty heavy, wondering if it hurt him a bit. His blanket hit him in the face as you hung onto it well being lifted to try and keep yourself close to the bed, obviously not working.
"how are you even this strong? I'm pretty heavy-"
"your perfectly fine if I can carry you sweetheart"
Your heart pounded when he called you names like that. Sweetheart. Your face was now a bright red, the anxiety and nickname working together to create it.
He carried you over to your bed on the opposite side of the room, carefully dropping you as he didn't want to hurt you. You quickly covered your violently red face with his blanket, feeling like he could feel the heat radiating off of it from where he stood above you.
He yanked it from your arms, wanting to uncover your face and retrieve his blanket for his freshly made bed.
"hey come on give me my blanket back!-"
He finally managed to get it from your tight grip, slowly processing your face before you turned your head into the pillow. He always loved to absorb your emotions, enjoying how you reacted. And this one was new to his eyes.
"are you-"
"shut up!"
He laughed, filling up the room as it echoed. You loved his laugh, it always made you smile. But right now, it was only making your face even redder. He sat on the bed beside you, the mattress deepening from the weight. You somewhat rolled toward him from the weight difference, tapping his back with yours making contact.
"come onnn, roll over y/n"
"You're just gonna make fun of me"
Your voice was muffled by the pillow you were on, not trusting yourself to be able to look at him without a red blush.
"I won't I promise. Please"
He thought of what else could convince you in the moment, trying to grab your waist and turn you to face him.
"please.. sweetheart?"
Your face grew even redder, not knowing it was possible to feel your heartbeat and warmth this much.
"please-"
Your voice trembling at this point,
"I can't handle it, you're gonna make me even worse"
"even worse?"
You finally turned to him, giving in. His eyes were staring deeply at your face, then your hair, then your eyes and lips. he went over them all carefully, memorizing the blush and the emotion in your eyes. The way they looked at him with embarrassment, but also lovingly.
"you see how red I am? I'm basically a heater."
He laughed again, gaining another laugh from you not being able to contain it after his. You admired the way his mouth lifted into the laugh, his eyes too, same with his hair. Everything about him, you realized, was amazing.
"How about we have a sleepover hm?"
"You're always laying with me. Just stay here a little longer and call it a sleepover"
You both laughed, basking in each others company.
"have I.. ever kissed you in private y/n?"
Your eyes widened in a bit of shock. It was quite a random question, but your face still reacted fast.
"without a camera in our faces?"
"no- no.. I don't think so...why?"
He placed his hand gently on your cheek, slowly leaning down to your level on the pillow.
"may I sweetheart?"
"how could I say no to the Peeta Mellark?"

For some reason, I love that Johanna is actually mentioned in the first book. She existed in Suzanne’s mind before Finnick even. And her performance is so memorable for Katniss that she mentions her strategy in some of the first chapters. We call that girl power ladies
