Hello, I'm an aspiring fanfic writer and I'm just asking: how do you do it? Like, how do you get the confidence and motivation to write? I'm so worried about making and posting my work after spending hours on it for it to be hated. Another question, how do you write non-dialogue parts so well? I feel like I can write dialogue well, but I'm worried about writing actions and stuff like that will be too difficult and too "non-fluid like"; it just being non descriptive. I'm asking since you are one of my favorite authors on the site, and I want to get your advice on this matter. Thank you for answering if you do!
First of all, I am very flattered you are asking me for advice! It’s wild that people come to me to seek help like this, I still remember when I was 11 writing terrible fanfiction for the first time lol.
Personally, my main piece of advice regarding motivation is this: find an idea you really like, for starters. This may sound obvious but a few times I’ve liked a few things I want to write in theory, but then I sputter out half way through and realise that I was only writing for a small segment and had no idea what to do after this. Obviously, this is still fine, and is what oneshots are for - and it also makes good practice! But motivation wise, always find an idea that really makes you want to sit down and write it all out! I often do fanfictions in one big burst of inspiration in a few hours, but for other people this may be different.
Secondly, never let yourself be talked down out of posting anything! Like I mentioned, I’ve been writing since I was 11, and let me tell you some of those first fics are…interesting, to say in the least. But the act of posting them, even if no one interacts with it, should give you pride and confidence in yourself. Because you’re awesome - you just wrote a story and posted it! People can choose to interact or not, love it or not, but at the end of the day this is still a massive achievement for you.
Try not to get caught up in whether a story is doing “well” or not (for example, views, likes, kudos, etc). This doesn’t matter. If you are happy with your work, this is half the motivation to keep going. You often find one or two people that are really hooked with your story no matter what - personally I think the fanfiction community (at least the ones I’ve been in) are very kind and don’t interact just to hate. The feeling of having even one person loving your story is enough, trust me.
If the performance of the story matters to you, I highly suggest polishing off how you write summaries if you want to grab people. Personally, a confusing summary with excessive emojis or an unclear description makes me less likely to read something. I would advice posting a small snippet of your fic, and then a general summary (this is what I do for all my fics).
If you are struggling, I don’t mind creating summaries/proof reading fics for anyone! It’s hard, especially as a new writer, to do these things. For this, the old saying is the best - practice makes perfect.
You also asked about how I write my descriptions, so I will share my tricks of the trade. Most importantly - visualise the scene in your head.
I mean this literally. Imagine the conversation. How do you want your characters to be acting? Are they standing still? Where are they? How is the environment interacting with them? What are their feelings, and can these be described? Who are they talking to, and what is their relationship with them? Many of these questions can be answered much easier if you picture the entire scene in your head, from start to finish, and then write out all these little actions that you may miss.
Additionally, you also ask about the less literal things, like my descriptions and such - these are actually my favourite parts to write, so much so that I get a little carried away. I cannot really give much advice on this I’m afraid, apart from I write them just by expressing what comes to my mind as it comes. I don’t plan these segments like I do with plot and dialogue, but more so on a whim to extend the characters feelings. Is the character sad? How deep does this go? How does this actually feel? Like churning waters of anxiety that they can’t escape from, or small waves slowly increasing as the tide draws inward? Feelings are very abstract, and so you need to make the most of this. Metaphors are good ways to do this, or descriptions of these feelings also go well. It gives depth to the character and situation they are in, expressing more to the reader exactly how high the stakes are emotionally and physically.
Also, I would advise reading other fics, and picking what techniques you like from those. For example, if you like the way someone describes environments, write down why and then try and replicate this yourself. It helps narrow your writing style, and refine your skills, like finding an art style.
As a final, I would like to say - no one is perfect. No one is amazing at any skill right off the bat. It’s impossible and is never expected from any sane person. What is most important is that you are proud of your work, and this will provide all the motivation you need to keep going and growing as a writer.
For me, personally anyway.
Seriously though, thanks for liking my stuff!

So, these are the fics I’ve been working on. They’re all one shots, nothing impressively long, but longer than anything I have written here so far. There are two seperate collections/series containing fantasy, royal, sci-fi and supernatural stories. I’m excited about all of them, but there are a couple that I’m super excited about. But, if I can be honest, I’m a little worried that I’m getting too excited about this project after posting the first instalment, Bound. I’m wondering if maybe this is not a genre people want to read and I’d be better off sticking to slice-of-life type works.
So I guess we’ll call this an interest check. Not all the banners for the second series is complete yet, as you may be able to tell, since I only have a rough outline of the story for some so far. I will still write on them, just not make them as much of a priority if people prefer something else.
Series A: sci-fi/royal
Tumblr media
Snippet: His body was so hot it felt as if there was fire burning in his veins. His bones ached. Light was searing through his closed eyelids, as bright as if he was staring open-eyed into the sun. His breathing was deafening in his own ears, and behind that was silence—even the silence was loud.
Tumblr media
Snippet: Never in a thousand eons did you think you would be in a situation like this. Having just broken a criminal out of prison, you were crouched in the black of night, waiting for said criminal to swing back around and pick you up in the air-ship you had arrived in. Your body was not thrilled with the situation either; your kneecaps and hands groaning from the long crawl through tight metal airways, your neck strained and your back also complaining. But your body would just have to get used to it. You were a rebel now.
Tumblr media
Nothing yet…
Tumblr media
Snippet: Standing in the junkyard was like standing in an oasis of opportunity. A wilderness of abandoned parts and scrap metal. It was worth getting up before dawn to beat the peddlers flocked to the place and took all the good gear. The markets sold android parts, of course, but it was always worth perusing the junkyard for any overlooked scraps that might be reused.
Series B - supernatural/fantasy
Tumblr media
Snippet: Your magic has been weaker lately, leaving you feeling drained and lacklustre. This occurrence seems to have coincided with the disappearance of your familiar at the last full moon, and he'd never stayed away this long. The empathetic bond you shared with your familiar was strong, and you could sense that something wasn’t right, that your dear companion needed your help.
Tumblr media
Snippet: Looking at Taehyun, you could see he was burning up. What you were able to see of his chest with his low neckline was fire red, his brow wet. "Taehyun, what did you see?"
Tumblr media
Summary: Beomgyu's been working so hard at his job, he hasn’t been thinking about anything else—not even the moon cycles. When you can't reach him by text message, social media or phone calls, you take it upon yourself to go to the apartment.
Tumblr media
Snippet: The thought nagged at him again—or maybe, was it his conscience?—that he shouldn't be this close, that this was not how things were supposed to be done. But he turned his back on that voice of reason. He felt his presence was needed.
Tumblr media
Snippet: You spent a lot of your childhood on your father's boat, reluctantly dragged out to sea where he did most of his work. One bright afternoon, you were staring onto the water, wishing to be anywhere else, when you noticed a blur beneath the blue. A head broke the surface, dark but warm eyes smiling at you as a boy held his finger to his lips.

Hello!
I’m currently working on a reader x Rengoku fanfic. It’s the first fanfic I’ve ever written. I’m excited and scared!
I know I’m so late to the party, but I hope people enjoy it as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it.
I’m forcing myself to put at least a snippet here, and if all goes well, I’ll post it to Ao3
(Rengoku x AFAB reader, canon divergent (Akaza didn’t show up at the end of Mugen Train), fluff and smut)
***
Kyojuro is never quiet when coming home from missions.
In combat, the man moves with stealth and graceful speed which could put even the sneakiest alley cat to shame. But returning in the dim morning light, excited and elated simply to be back home, he bounds toward you with an apologetic grin.
“I’m back!” he declares, as though his footsteps didn’t just shake you from the bed.
But you can’t find it within yourself to be annoyed at him for waking you. Ever.
It doesn’t matter that it’s hours before you’re due to rise, or that he and his crow probably woke the whole damn village on their return. Before you know it, your smile is mirroring his, and you’re crushed to him, not knowing who closed the space between you first. You breathe in the scent of battle, dwindling smoke, and the comfort of him.
Your fingers press to his back, sliding up towards his shoulders, your heart squeezing with the relief that he’s home. He won the battle. He survived.
Strong, sturdy, and real beneath your hands. And yours, entirely.
You could cry; the lump in your throat is dangerously close to choking you, but tears would only make him worry. So you press your face to his chest, letting him hold you, rocking you from side to side as he rests his cheek on the top of your head.
You sigh, breathing him in. "Do you want to go and tell Senjuro and your father you're back? Senjuro was so worried."
"In a little while," he says, tightening his hold on you. "He usually wakes after sunrise."
You can't help but smile.
“How was it?” you ask, muffled in his embrace.
“Hm?”
You pull your face away to let your voice carry to him. “How was the mission? The demon on the train?”
“Ah. Good.” He smiles, raising a battle-hardened hand to gently stroke your cheek. The intensity in his fiery gaze softens as he acclimates to the safety of your shared home. “We prevailed. But it took too long.”
“Agreed. You were gone for two months.” You lean into his touch. And, knowing due to his hashira stamina, it’s likely untrue, you add, “You must be exhausted. We could go back to bed for a while?”
He chuckles softly, catching the meaning behind your seemingly innocent words. “I should clean up first. I’m sure I smell less than—”
His sentence dies against your lips as you pull him to you, unable to delay what you’ve been craving for months. And after a muffled gasp of surprise, he reciprocates the kiss.
Kyojuro kisses like he fights; with every damn fiber of his being, burning you up as he drives you backward, pressing you to the wooden frame of the door and pinning you to it with his body. At once, you’re lost to the world, and all that matters is his lips, his fingers tangled in your hair, and his muscled thigh pressing between yours. Your body reacts to him so quickly you become lightheaded; heat pooling everywhere he touches.
Yours. He’s yours. And he’s home.
A sigh escapes you as he takes your hand in his, and pins your wrist to the door frame above your head.
You could list a thousand reasons you love this man; one of them being the way he can snap in an instant from dazzling light and exuberant warmth, to an altogether more blistering, primal sort of flame. And you have always reveled in that blaze.
You slide down a couple of inches, pressing your core to the sturdy length of his thigh as you tug his lower lip between your teeth. A quiet groan escapes him, those gold and crimson eyes of his half-lidded as he drops his hand to the opening of your robe.
Kyojuro can (and has) spent all night undressing you and letting your excitement build before granting you release after release. And every time you’ve basked in that drawn out pleasure, trusting him entirely as you do, that the delay will be more than worth the reward, but not tonight. Not after two lonely months of nothing but your hands on your cunt, and gasping his name into the pillow.
To be continued...

hi a!
i’m back with another “gentle reminders” ask. it goes in line with one of my personal goals this year of trying to work on my kindness and how i show that kindness to others.
the beginning of a new year is always a bit tough for many people, for many reasons but at the scale of the fandom, i have noticed some negativity starting to spread. maybe it’s bound to happen on any social media but i always considered tumblr to be different, to be over the kind of discourse you could find on other apps. this place has been a true haven for many of us and i would like to keep it that way, so i thought, as a way to counterbalance this negativity, i could compensate with a nice message for one of the driving forces in the fandom: our dear writers.
i would like to begin by saying thank you.  thank you for dedicating your time, your energy, your love and sharing pieces of yourself with us. the fandom wouldn’t be what it is without you: just like a body needs a brain or a heart to function properly, fandoms need writers like they need others contributing. thank you for offering diversity, engaging with different tropes and characters to reach as many readers as possible. i will admit, some things proposed are not my cup of tea but i know they can be enjoyed by others, the same way some of my favorite fics wouldn’t necessarily attract others. so thank you for giving a chance to everyone to find what they enjoy, to discover, to learn, to cry, to laugh, to love and to be able to do so in an open, safe space. thank you for interacting with us as well. thank you for responding to our questions, sharing snippets when we get impatient, teasing us with your new ideas and making life a little more fun and exciting every day. and of course, thank you for doing all of this for free. for expecting so little in return when you give us so much.
now a few things i want you to remember:
although we’re all thankful for having access to your art, your first fan should be yourself. write what you enjoy, write that self-indulgent fic, write your favorite trope, an improbable duo or crossover because you’ve always wanted to. do it for yourself. in the same way, have fun with it. writing is a hobby, it’s not your job, it’s not supposed to be a chore. so do what makes you happy. don’t worry about updating fics, about being slow, about posting too much or too little. some things might take time, some might need an hour to be posted but in the end, they all matter just the same. they’re worth being read and cherished and we will appreciate them. whether you have thousands of notes or barely a few hundreds, you have your place here. you’re still an amazing writer, you’re still an artist regardless of the stats.
whether i've had time to binge-read your stories or just discovered you. thank you. i love you. i’m grateful for you. i see and appreciate your work. your efforts. you.  i’m sorry if you’ve ever been received with negativity but i hope this can make up for some of it.  you deserve nothing but kindness and appreciation and i hope you know how much you matter here.
sending you all my love,
anna 💗

anna 🥹🥹🥹 omg, this was so incredibly sweet and I don’t even know what to say to how lovely, thoughtful and kind this is. I am so glad that you’re a part of this fandom and that you’re so generous with your time to send this!
I loved the part on us, the person making the art, being the first fan and I agree so much. that’s what is important. we should love what we do before it gets shared to others 🥹
you, my lovely one, deserve all of the kindness and appreciation too my love. I’m so glad you’re here 😘🩷✨

Oh goodness gracious…I’m not going to lie, this made me a tad bit emotional. I haven’t posted much of my work. And honestly, that’s partially due to the level of negativity that has been propagating lately in this fandom. For me, it makes it a lot harder to just let go and write and post what I want to.
Hell, I currently have a WIP that I’m genuinely loving but I’m so afraid of subjecting it to an audience that can be so unforgiving. But no more. None of us should let that fear control the art we produce. It’s a story I want to tell so it deserves telling.
Kindness from folks like you heals a little bit of my soul. It reassures me to know that amidst the discourse and negativity, there are plenty of people who also just want to hang out, have fun, and spread love. Thank you for taking the time to send out these asks to folks in the community. Please know that your words mean a great deal and that they’re hugely appreciated. Take care of yourself and don’t be a stranger, Anna. 💛

@bottomlessabyssposts hiiiiiiiiiii! I have. So many things to say ab Bianca but I wanted to share at least a lil bit even if i cannt write them all down??? The thing is, like, MOST of it is written down but not necessarily in a way that’s coherent to anyone except me RIP, so i’m going through & looking for snippets that are like. Easiest to understand, y’know? & also with the spot i drew from from canon to arrive at my headcanon—this is sure as shit not “analysis,” exactly, but there’s so much blank space left in the riordanverse (& don’t get me started on rick constantly contradicting his own work—i’m obsessed w/canon compliance or at least canon adjacency so he drives me BATSHIT bc his stuff DOES NOT MAKE SENSE IN THE UNIVERSE HE MADE—)
(Also! Hi @chiquitablanquita! We haven’t interacted much yet but i figure pjo is a shared interest so might as well tag you in this??? 🤷. Still getting the hang of tumblr friends/etiquette/mutual-ship lol. This is a no-pressure tagging zone!!!)
Okay. Bianca. I adore her sm. I’ll have to make a series of posts ab her probably to write all my di Angelo headcanon stuff down but I figure—I’m not sure if i should start w/her in Tartarus, her pre-the books, or my headcanon for what happened to Maria that’s soon to be jossed RIP.
I think i’ll start post-move to america, Maria’s death & casino era, & not delve into pre-move to america headcanons just yet? Yeah, that makes sense. Might dip my toe into headcanons for her powers/potential powers tho!
First thing you have to know, i think? Bianca’s fatal flaw is holding grudges. Bianca’s—not Nico’s. Obviously that’s not what killed Bianca in the end… (except, it kind of is. Running from that parent of herself, acting in accordance with it… except that wasn’t the only factor influencing her). So many think her flaw relates to responsibility, accepting it, evading it, etc. But Bianca herself feels her fatal flaw—or at least, one of her major flaws—is holding grudges. Being resentful. Being resentful of her brother, specifically.
She loves Nico. She loves him so, so much. He’s her world. And she hates him. No, wait, of course she doesn’t hate him—he’s her little brother, and she loves him, and it’s not like he’s doing anything wrong, it’s just—it’s the little things. (This bit draws a bit from the preview—just that Bianca & Nico shared a bed in the Lotus Casino according to Nico’s nightmare/memory dream sequence, which tracks for me in terms of sibling dynamics). He’s just… he doesn’t get it. How dangerous things are. She protects him from it. And he’s always around, always needing her, wanting to her play his game and help him with homework and hold his hand and—she never gets a moment to breathe. To bond with her classmates, not that she’d been making much headway on that, anyway.
She resents him for getting to be young and innocent and letting her worry about the big stuff and depending on her and following her rules and not following her rules. She tells him not to go watching the pg-13 movies and he’ll listen, mostly—but how are you supposed to parent a kid through making friends? How are you supposed to parent, period?! She knows she snaps at him too much, lashing out—she knows she’s not what he needs, and she feels guilty as hell for it, but also resents the hell out of him for putting her on the pedestal, shoving her in this role. Then she hates herself for resenting him, he’s only ten, and she loves him, he doesn’t deserve this, doesn’t deserve her, and all her messy, frustrated love, but she doesn’t want this role. She doesn’t want to be a mother. She’s only 12. And there’s no one to talk to, it’s only him, and he can’t listen to her cry or he won’t listen to her, she needs to be the adult for him, their teachers are next to useless.
It’s worse when he tries to help, not better. When he’s sweet and protective and gives her space…. Because then she’s angry at him for not being able to be enough, to be all she needs, because she doesn’t have anyone else either, and he doesn’t even give her the chance to find others, clinging to her like—like a goddamn boa constrictor. And then she hates herself for putting him in that position, of having to take care of her—she’s the big sister, and he’s so little, and he needs her, and then she’s back to resenting him again, and it makes her want to scream. (Or rather, to run.)
Nico’s different. She knows it. She watches his cheeks bleed red, regaling her of conversation after conversation with a boy in his grade (she’s seen them together. The boy doesn’t seem interested in talking to Nico, but is too shy to tell him so. Her heart breaks for her brother, even as she empathizes with the other boy, but all of it is so… numb. Detached. So she listens and nods and doesn’t say a word). She’s not sure if he knows, if he remembers… but she does. And she doesn’t know how to protect him. She doesn’t know how to help him. Is loving him enough? Can it be? When it’s her messy kind of love, cutting and protective and distant at once?
She ignores him, sometimes. He’ll be having a bad day, or a hard day, or a restless night, or a violent one—it’s written over his face, every time, he’s always been so easy to read (for her, at least). A coiled ball of energy and rage and fear and pain, unable to process it, any of it (is it because she hasn’t taught him how? (How could she, when she’s barely learned herself?)). He lashes out at her, too, you know, for all she lashes out at him, for all he’s young and innocent and sweet and doesn’t understand—she lets him rage and lets him storm off and lets him cry and doesn’t feel a thing. Or—feels dull, dreary, waiting it out like a thunderstorm as opposed to reaching out, asking what’s wrong, asking how to help.
She’s not sure if this makes her an awful person or not. Does she not care? He’s her brother, her world, he’s hurting, and she just—
But it’s also a matter of survival, she knows. Nico feels things, and they fill up a room, they don’t leave space for anything or anyone else. Numbing herself to it is how she gets through, how she can stay calm, talk him down from it… on the days she talks him down from it. But she can’t afford anything else, or else he’d fill her up inside, and she’s have no room left for her.
She needs to be selfish to survive. If she doesn’t survive… she doesn’t know what happens to him, if she doesn’t survive. Her messy, selfish, flawed love is all he has, the shield between him and the rest of the world. So she lets herself be selfish, for her own sake, for his. And she tries to make it to the other side.

i would like to begin by saying thank you.  thank you for dedicating your time, your energy, your love and sharing pieces of yourself with us. the fandom wouldn’t be what it is without you: just like a body needs a brain or a heart to function properly, fandoms need writers like they need others contributing. thank you for offering diversity, engaging with different tropes and characters to reach as many readers as possible. i will admit, some things proposed are not my cup of tea but i know they can be enjoyed by others, the same way some of my favorite fics wouldn’t necessarily attract others. so thank you for giving a chance to everyone to find what they enjoy, to discover, to learn, to cry, to laugh, to love and to be able to do so in an open, safe space. thank you for interacting with us as well. thank you for responding to our questions, sharing snippets when we get impatient, teasing us with your new ideas and making life a little more fun and exciting every day. and of course, thank you for doing all of this for free. for expecting so little in return when you give us so much.
now a few things i want you to remember:
although we’re all thankful for having access to your art, your first fan should be yourself. write what you enjoy, write that self-indulgent fic, write your favorite trope, an improbable duo or crossover because you’ve always wanted to. do it for yourself. in the same way, have fun with it. writing is a hobby, it’s not your job, it’s not supposed to be a chore. so do what makes you happy. don’t worry about updating fics, about being slow, about posting too much or too little. some things might take time, some might need an hour to be posted but in the end, they all matter just the same. they’re worth being read and cherished and we will appreciate them. whether you have thousands of notes or barely a few hundreds, you have your place here. you’re still an amazing writer, you’re still an artist regardless of the stats.
whether i've had time to binge-read your stories or just discovered you. thank you. i love you. i’m grateful for you. i see and appreciate your work. your efforts. you.  i’m sorry if you’ve ever been received with negativity but i hope this can make up for some of it.  you deserve nothing but kindness and appreciation and i hope you know how much you matter here.
sending you all my love,
anna 💗
omg sweet anna!! 😭 where do i even begin??
this is incredibly kind. despite all the discourse that’s happened lately on social media, people like you who choose to spread kindness trump all negativity.
my page being called a safe space is truly the highest praise, thank you 🥹 genuinely hope people find my blog as a safe space to be who they are, and to just be. 🫶🏼
thank you so so much for your generosity, and the gentle reminders. i’ve been down in the dumps about my writing lately, and this just boosted my confidence and motivation. 🥹
you unknowingly made my whole MONTH with your sweetness, and i just want you to know how grateful i am for you. your love and warmth is palpable, i wanna grab you and hug you through the screen! thank you for being here and for being you. 🫂
i love you, sweet girl!! 🩷

Anna, this makes my heart so so fucking happy.
I sometimes feel like my content and writing is never /enough/. I have so much self doubt and insecurities, it’s insane! you sending this is such a sweet reminder to be more gentle with myself.
I make too many deadlines. I overanalyze everything I post.
but it shouldn’t be that way. I am here to have fun and make incredible friends (like you!!!) ❤️
I love you! thank you a million times over!!!
