no, they dont make it to canada. they abandoned that idea after feather was killed. instead her funeral and burial is held in california by her dying wish and her family drives/flies over. graystripe and mosspelt took feather's car, but mosspelt flies back home via plane. graystripe is staying wirh storm indefinitely and eventually meets millie.

with storm's blessing, bramble,tawny, crow, and squirrel take the van back home. tawny is dropped off on the way, but crow insists on tagging along to thunder because he's not ready to be alone yet. his family is pretty small and he's not sure his parents will be able to help much, as much as they may try.

dodging the draft can get you into trouble, but there are many that got off scot free and bramble was one pf those lucky fellows (especially with firestar's involvement. he made sure bramble wouldn't have it held against him in return for keeping squirrel safe and bringing her home). firestar was furious at both bramble and squirrel but he's not cruel and unsympathetic, especially considering they just lost a very close friend (and that gray isnt coming back for a while).

this is where crow and leaf meet, crow is kinda bunking with bramble at his place and even had plans to move in for good. his parents were pretty combative but couldnt do much since he was a few states away!!! they dont know where the fuck thunder-whatever is. but eventually he gets a call about his father's rapidly declining health and immediately abandons his plans to stay. he asks leaf to come with him but leaf still isn't finished with med school (she doesn't know she's pregnant yet) and they part ways. crow makes it home to help ashfoot care for deadfoot in his final few months and fills in after his father dies. it's something he didnt plan to continue but its notnlike he HATES doing the work. eventually meets+marries nightcloud a 1-4 yrs later

leaf meanwhile continues med school. being unmarried with kids is still a social taboo, especially at such a young age (im imagining she and squirrel are around 18-19 by now, 17 during the road trip). squirrel and bramble, however, had been in a relationship with one another for a while after coming back home. sure, it got a bit messy when ashfur came back from vietnam and got a bit too close to squirrel for comfort, but they sorta resolved it and eventually bramble/squirrel got engaged. leaf confided in squirrel for her help with the pregnancy and squirrel immediately offered to take the children in as her own if leaf needed. it was a huge jump but leaf took the offer. bramble was let in on the plan the closer leaf got to her due date. he thought it was a very impulsive decision and they fought a bit about making the decision without him but he was enthusiastic about being a father regardless.

the others in town had their suspicions but dont ask dont tell.

theres some other parts i havent fully ironed out yet like where hawkfrost and mothwint come in.

as for the actual lake territories, they coexist with the forest territories by just being in different states LOL windclan and thunderclan's territory was pretty consistent in terms of The Basics so theyre mostly in the same general area (tc is east coast forests, wc is southwest-midwest prairies. theres a lot of cowboys, farmers, and ranchers in "windclan" as a result). shadowclan i can see being in the southern swamps, especially florida or louisiana, and riverclan is kinda interspersed alont the mississippi and ohio rivers. maybe a few along the east coast, too, as the lake territory equivalent. skyclan is probably in the rockies or the redwood forests out west. maybeeee old skyclan is in the appalachias???? idk LOL since the cats are so far apaer now the conflicts are a little less wide scale and more personal if rhat makes any sense at all. of course this whole au is a huge work in progress so some of what i say here may change!

the clans are rural/small/poor towns in my head. tight knit communities that have to rely on each other. kittypets are urban/suburbanites as a contrast and keep the 'kittypets r fucjing spoiled' theme going . you inow the city slicker junk LOL

bloodclan is probably a gang in new york. at least scourge's bloodclan. the other iterations are probably in other huge metropolitan cities. idk what warriorclan is, and the tribe is a whole can of worms im trying to be very careful with so im not gonna talk about them as a whole quite yet other than imply they exist

Is Crowfeather's parenting and abuse of Breeze going to be any different and/or handled differently by other cats in BB? Thinking about his honor title being for Feathertail and... ugh this poor woman having to watch a cat who named himself for his love for her be so horrible to his own kin after she's torn from hers so soon. She should get to come down and knock some sense into him, if that's even possible

I haven't been able to get into BB!Feathertail yet, but she's fascinating honestly. I like the vibe that Feather x Crow is like this cosmically doomed ship, destined to torpedo itself time and time again for various reasons, and that's the foundation of them in BB.

They were NEVER going to work. Crowfoot has a ton of issues he's working through. Feathertail values herself too much to allow him to mistreat her in the meanwhile. If Feathertail never died, the breakup would have been good for him. He REALLY needed it, actually. Calm, funny, easygoing Feathertail just laying their problems on the table, why she doesn't want a relationship, but still spinning it in that way-of-hers that softens a hard blow.

It wouldn't have fixed him overnight, of course. It just would have been a spark. Paws on a better, happier path. Not a lover in another Clan, but a friend, if he took her words to heart.

But she's dead. She died horribly. And her memory is this perfect fantasy for the magical, flawless love they could have had, an impossible standard Crowfeather viciously holds all of his future lovers to. So as a spirit guide, with all her eloquence, she'd say to him, "That's not very cash money of you."

But anyway, on Breeze's abuse.

For one, I absolutely would want to make sure to stress Breeze's good qualities sooner and harder, and explicitly make them friends at certain points.

The Tribe Journey in particular, where there's a lot of opportunities to get him away from Crowfeather. By the end of it, I would want to include a poignant moment where they have one final nice moment together, before Crowfeather barks for him, and it's gone.

(and, also, add a couple of cats who help The Three discuss their complicated emotions towards seeing their bully being abused.)

I would also actually remove the way that the cats of WindClan "look to" Crowfeather on how Breezepelt should be treated, particularly from Crowfeather's Trial. I feel it misses the point and ends up saying that Breezepelt could NEVER get the social approval he craves unless his abusive dad CHOSE to stop mistreating him.

Like!! FUCK no!!! You do NOT need the approval of a guy who NEVER would have given it without 3 different women and Onestar screaming it into his ear!

Instead, I'd stress how the Clan was beginning to turn on him as soon as his problems escalated into active reckless endangerment. His abuse was causing his social alienation by making his behavior worse and worse.

That seems like a minor change, but it's one of my bigger complaints. ALL of WindClan shouldn't be looking to an abusive parent to model how they'll react to his son. PLEASE let the cats have their own unique social opinions.

One of Breezepelt's adult defenders is Brushblaze. I will be picking more-- but there's always going to be some cats in his corner besides Nightcloud and Heathertail (and Harestar of course who is poly with Heather and Breeze in BB.)

(though Pro-Breeze cats are in the minority unfortunately.)

MOST of the Dark Forest trainees from WindClan were personal friends of Breezepelt. Harespring, Sunstrike, Furzepelt, and Antpelt all came into the training because of him.

All that said, not much else is different about the setup of Breezepelt's childhood abuse! It's a part of canon I think is good and I would like to stay relatively faithful to it.

His arc also continues into BB!AVoS. Continued distrust of him after fighting for the Dark Forest, misplacing his anger onto Harespring when he manages to take deputyship, and Dishonor Titles from Onestar end up causing him and his friends to feel so rejected that they join The Kin.

Its message, that they are "The Kin that the Clans abandoned" appeals to over a dozen cats from other Clans who are shunned for various reasons. HalfClan cats, codebreakers, and Dark Forest trainees alike all come together, because BB!The Kin is mostly comprised of Clan cats, particularly ones from SkyClan, NOT rogues.

There's about 6 or so non-Clanborn cats in The Kin; Rain, Raven, Flame, Dragonfly, Roach, Nettle. If I end up keeping Silt, Thistle, or any of the 7-10 unnamed cats, they'll get shuffled to be Clanborn.

(Max, Loki, and Zelda are cut. Many of Zelda's roles are being absorbed by Dragonfly, who is remaining with Violetshine after The Kin disbands)

re: WC misogyny

This is solely to get my thoughts out abt this bc I’m probably not gonna be able to articulate this to the best of my ability but I feel like it’s incredibly important to say that these books are pretty damn misogynistic and so was the fanbase for the longest time.

Not saying that to be "throwing the word around without knowing what the word means", because misogyny is defined as a dislike/contempt against women. This can also absolutely be an unconscious bias (which is primarily what I see anyway!) I've seen far more people dismiss these characters while holding up male ones that do similar/worse things (i.e. Thistleclaw primarily but a lot of the MV characters to an extent)

The reason why discussion about sexism usually ends up against cats like Mapleshade, Squirrelflight, Frecklewish, and Nightcloud is primarily due to how the universe of the books is written to chastise these characters while their male counterparts go thru barely half of the shit thrown onto the girls.

Mapleshade gets her kids and herself exiled for breaking the code while Appledusk literally gets a slap on the wrist for breaking the same code she did? The Riverclan leader just tells him "well, you'll not do it again so you don't need to be punished" while Mapleshade doesn't even get to bury her kits. Even if she's the Warrior Cats evil woman that's still really fucked up!? And this goes to Frecklewish as well, who does not watch them drown oh my god. The flood that kills Maple's kits is incredibly loud--saying Freckle would have been able to do anything else OTHER than watch dismisses the fact going to the flooded stones was an idea doomed to fail (of which Mapleshade has a lot of in MV specifically.)

Frecklewish absolutely ended up in the Dark Forest over Oakstar or Ravenwing (who both condemned the kittens to their fate instead of?? idk punishing Maple and not the kits who didn't even know they were half clan?) because of the way the fandom perceived her at the time. Freckle's a lot like Squirrelflight where fandom opinion only recently shifted to people defending those characters--she's pretty awful for calling the same kits she doted on half-clan creatures! But I don't think she deserved to go to cat hell forever when the cat who actually caused those kittens to end up dead (and every other cat in MV!) ends up in Starclan without even so much of a trial.

Speaking of trials--Squirrelflight and Leafpool literally end up almost being sent to CAT HELL for following Starclan's orders. Leafpool ends up having forbidden kits but Starclan goes "it's okay!" until it isn't. Brambleclaw almost being involved in Firestar's fox trap murder never gets mentioned or brought up while both of the girls are questioned about if they even belong in Starclan because they "broke the code and lied"?? There's a pretty damn big bias towards the toms for doing bad/worse actions but Bramble never went to Starclan and had his ticket for heaven almost revoked. Oakstar didn't get put in the Dark Forest because he exiled 3 innocent kits.

I think it's important to note the fandom has a lot of say over how characters like these get interpreted (which is why Nightcloud ended up being hated a lot despite the fact Crowfeather is just. actually abusive to Breezepelt.) That's why I brought up unconscious biases, because I think generally a lot of WC content creators tend to stick to presenting the stories in a more radical/black and white way.

I think the discussion really should be that the books and the stories ARE pretty misogynistic but unconsciously so? A lot of the story beats I mentioned weren't written by just one person, and the Erins have different opinions on these cats than the fans do. That's not me stating an opinion, that's just me saying recognizing that it's very male-oriented IS an issue these books have.

Anyways this got way too wordy, Ashfur is one of my favorite villains so I don't even know why I typed all of this up /j.

I had this idea of OneFire hypoparent versions of Squilf and Leaf and couldn’t not do it so here they are!

Pretty much at the start of tnp little Ploverpaw and Squirrelpaw are separated across borders taken by each of their dads, Ploverpool with Onestar and Squirrelcurl with Firestar. To finally stop the constant fights from Windclan as Onestar wanted one of his daughters. Ended up with a whole au for them that I actually really love.

Beware long au explanation of the two

Squirrelcurl

Small curly cat so full of energy it’s like she’s got the wind in her heart. With more of her father Onewhisker’s stripes but a warmer tone and shape like her papa Fireheart she’s very torn with her loyalties. While she does have the spirit for the moor she was very easily divided with her papa because of her coat, height, and stumpy legs. And while she does love Fire a lot she sometimes wishes her and Plover could’ve been raised closer together. Does not get along with her father Onestar much the two butting heads harshly and with differing opinions very quickly getting into fights.

She does not get with Bramble but instead with Crowfeather after they got close over the journey, meeting him more under the guise of visiting her sister. The two were close and said they’d run away together! Find a place where all can love with no borders tearing them apart! Until it all crumpled as Squirrel couldn’t leave all her family and friends behind and Crow started to find he didn’t like the true fire in her heart. They split harshly breaking both cats hearts in a massive fight, running back to their own clans. Except Squirrelcurl was expecting his kittens and she’d have no way to explain them away.

Squirrelcurl makes a plan with her sister who is also expecting and they leave with Mothwing and Nightcloud to have the litters under a guise of a vision. She has Starlingkit and Ravenkit who she knows she cannot keep, they look far too much like their father to ever stay. On the way back she gives the two to Nightcloud who promises to love them for her, deciding to rename them Hollykit and Breezekit for their parentage of the forest and the moors.

Eventually after the secrets revealed by Hollyscratch and Breezecloud she makes amends with both her kittens, and finds she loves Nightcloud with the two becoming mates once she divorces Bramblestep.

Ploverpool

Tall curly and powerful their was no hiding the clear mix of blood in Ploverpool’s pelt she was a very mixed cat. Having Firestar’s pattern, ears, and strong paws but Onestar’s coat, eyes, curl, tail, and height she was clear from her birth where she came from. But with her height and slight fear of shadows she was kept by her father Onewhisker, having to watch her sister walk away. Very early on she found a solution, if she was a healer she could travel across borders and see anyone she wanted! And learn the secrets most cats can’t even touch. As such she was trained under Barkface.

She does find love across borders, right by a little flowing creek. A cat much like her in statue such just beauty it struck her speechless she had to know her. And then at her first moonpool meeting to see just the cat saunter up she fell head over paws. Plover and Moth fall in love, using the excuse of their healer duties to hang out often having Squirrel or Nightcloud tag along with them. They thought nothing bad could come from this as long as no one found out. Until someone did. Plover knew someone had seen them when she found a moth wing and thorn snuck in her nest. Paranoia seeping into her pelt.

Plover realizes she’s expecting just a few nights after her sister came to her telling her similar news. They make a plan to all leave with Mothwing and Nightcloud in case anything were to happen, have the kittens in secret and figure out what to do after. She has three beautiful bundles of fur. Fritillarykit, Jaykit, and Tadpolekit. Sadly as they travel back Tadpole becomes too weak and passes away, buried just between the River and Wind borders by their mothers. Fritillarykit is kept by Mothwing and Jaykit is taken by Squirrelcurl who could easily pass the little pale kitten as her own.

When the secrets revealed Ploverpool finally breaks and moves to Riverclan to be with her mate and eventually raise their second litter of Dandelionkit, Hawkkit, Sparkkit, and Alderkit. Fritillaryblaze ends up also following his moms across the border to be with his new family, Jaydream crossing over often as well.

makes me go unhinged ppl are like nightcloud 'attacked' crowfeather and ignore the fact he is deliberately watching breezpelt get beat down by lionblaze (who has almost killed crowfeather before) like not even running to get help or verbally telling them to stop and then when leafpool intervenes and gets hit by breezepelt in the process thats when he steps in to attack him and then nightcloud pulls him off and he threatens to hit her too until breezpelt steps in the way

The way the scene has been exaggerated or completely removed from its context to make Crowfeather look better is so telling. It's not great Nightcloud grabbed him, but there is too much going on to say this is any sort of "normal" behavior going on from her. Meanwhile, Crowfeather behaves exactly the way we've seen from him in previous books: waving red flags by belittling Leafpool and being shitty to his family.

The fact that Breezepelt felt the need to get in between them and defend his mother is so telling. I don't think Crowfeather would have hit her (because imo Nightcloud would have rocked his shit), but Breezepelt doing so anyways....no red flags there apparently to some people. The way they describe Breezepelt's wail too, it really is telling.

they’re so. they’re so i love them (my bad this turned into a mothpool story ramble instead of headcanons)

- leafpaw sees mothpaw once and her lesbian eyes widen like she just saw god

- mothpaw is super anxious and leafpaw makes her feel unjudged and like an equal

- yes i made moth a paw still, i’ll have it so moth was changed to a med app shortly before her warrior ceremony, explaining why she’s an app and hawkfrost is a warrior

-mudfur names her mothwing (after the fake sign hawkfrost planted) before he dies

- anyway back to the gays

-they’re both lesbians, mothwing is a trans girl :) for me bc im trans and i like making characters trans and also for biological kits purposes

- in the lake territories, leafpool has a crisis when she realizes she loves mothwing. they have a little abandoned cave slightly past the territories they’d meet in i think

- mothwing confesses first, not caring for the code (in ripples, meds can have mates just not kits unless they have a replacement while they step down to care for their family) (half-clan relationships are still forbidden until bristlefrost’s law is made, allowing cats to switch clans to be with their mate)

- leafpool gives in and they are mates!!!

- they almost run away. go back to save thunderclan :( just like leafcrow in canon

- shortly after, leafpool realizes she’s pregnant!! luckily, squirrelflight confesses that she is too. they concoct a plan…. leafpool will give her kits to squirrel to raise, and no one can ask where they came from bc of the queen’s rights law in the warrior code

- (leafpool can’t raise her kits herself bc she’s the sole medicine cat, her clan would be left without a healer)

- they openly tell everyone squirrel is expecting to take attention off of leafpool, brambleclaw immediately assumes they’re his — squirrelflight doesn’t refute him. she only sees him as a brother, but if she denied it the only other cat as a possible father would be ashfur, or a rogue. neither of those options are good for others to assume in her opinion

- as canon, squirrel and leaf go off, and luckily they give birth at the same time. squirrelflight gives birth to hollykit and breezekit, and leafpool gives birth to lionkit (name change maybe), jaykit, and dovekit. they do this at the moonpool, and the wailing attracts crowfeather. he and squirrelflight get emotional, muah muah, cutesy, agree to separate, crowfeather takes breezekit for his friend nightcloud to raise with the kits she was currently giving birth to. that’s the reason crow was out, to get her a nice stick.

- they go back to tc after a patrol helps em carry the 4 kits, later on dovekit dies, squirrelflight is devastated :( so is leafpool :(

and brambleclaw ig

- holly, jay and lion are raised as siblings

- after the reveal, i kinda don’t want leafpool to die as i’ve said before so i think she’ll go to riverclan to be with mothwing, but she’ll be there as a warrior

- theyre so sweet :( leafpool picks flowers and puts them in mothwing’s mane

- leafpool headbutts, a trait she shares with squirrelflight

- mothwing curls around her every night to keep her warm. in greenleaf, leafpool often has to kick her away bc the heat is STIFLING

- leafpool brings the thunderclan herb pouch craft to riverclan, which afterwards becomes quite popular

- leafpool takes her swimming lessons from mothwing, and doesn’t do half bad! she ends up enjoying it

- similarly, she enjoys fishing and how calm it is

- whenever she can find willow she weaves it into necklaces and crowns for mothwing. they are all over the medicine den

- mothwing loves her wife so much she uses her healer privileges to get her the best piece of prey

- leafpool acts as mothwing’s guard, which just means leafpool is required to accompany mothwing on most patrols. leafpool is delighted by this.

- they bask on rocks together!!!! leafpool is entranced by the way mothwing glows

- “i don’t know her god, but i’m no stranger to devotion”

- maybe they’ll even have more kits… who knows?

ohmygod this blog is just amazing! thank you for doing a post about WoodWhistle!!! (I'm the one running daily whis btw, just so you're not confused about this rando gushing about the two WindClan sillies)

rarepairs are truly a thing I adore too (I love random yuri and will never stop creating random ships), but I'll try to not request too much, but could you maybe do a little post about sedgewhisker x petalfur? They've even got canon interactions lol, in The Fourth Apprentice's Beaver Quest. I just like both of these girls and thus decided to get them together.

#2: Petalfur x Sedgewhisker

So, Petal and Sedge were very hostile towards each other before the journey. Sedgewhisker especially. They've hated each other since first meeting when they were both on a border patrol.

So imagine their surprise when they meet with the others chosen to be on the journey... and see each other just standing awkwardly among the others.

Sedgewhisker was not happy.

But they continued on regardless, they had no time for petty squabbles and such, after all!

anyways, in the middle of the night, while the others were asleep, Sedgewhisker sits down and looks up at the moon. She cannot handle what was going on in WindClan after the reveal in the gathering. All her clanmates can only ever talk about Crowfeather, Nightcloud, Leafpool....

She jumps, Petalfur had woken up and had left the makeshift den. Sedgewhisker narrows her eyes, she didn't have time to argue with the molly right now.

But instead... Petalfur joins her, sitting down beside her.

Sedgewhisker suddenly feels awkward. She didn't expect that to happen.

Petalfur reluctantly asks how Sedgewhisker was doing in WindClan, and Sedge answers with, of course, a lie.

"Are you sure?" Petalfur replies. "I thought that after that whole... Thing... back at the gathering, things would be awkward.

Sedgewhisker sighs, whipping her head to look at Petalfur. "Why do you suddenly care?"

Petalfur looks taken aback. "I...I want to put this petty rivalry behind us." She confesses. "I don't want to argue, or cause a spat." Her eyes light up as the moonlight illuminates her pelt, "how 'bout a truce?"

So after she accepts, in the morning they start talking more during the journey. They considered themselves acquaintances for the whole journey!

So timeskip; after the whole Rippletail fiasco, Petalfur is distant and sad. Sedgewhisker tries to talk with her, but Petalfur either only replies with a nod, a shake of her head, or doesn't respond at all.

When they return, everyone bids a farewell. They leave, going back to their territories, except for Sedgewhisker and Petalfur.

Sedgewhisker asks if she could walk her friend home, and Petalfur reluctantly declines. Sedgewhisker is... sort of hurt, but she understands. Her friend needs time to grieve, after all.... But Petalfur asks if they could meet up at the next gathering (if she was ever chosen to go), and Sedgewhisker tells her she would see her there.

So they meet up at the gathering, and they keep meeting up after that. It got so bad to the point of them sneaking out just so they could be with their friend.

Sedgewhisker is the first one to confess, but it was just in the middle of one of her long rambles. She quickly shuts up once she realizes what she did, and her mind spirals into a state of panic. She cannot look at Petal anymore, she felt so embarrassed and horrified.

So... she runs away, back to her camp. She can't disobey the code, she can't be around Petalfur anymore.

(Timeskip) during the next gathering, Sedgewhisker notices Petalfur & Dovepaw chattering and talking.

Sedgewhisker felt so angry, embarrased, and horrified when Petalfur called her over, & she was angry at Dovepaw for sneaking into WC territory... so she turns away, padding over to her clanmates that were huddled around the corner of the island.

When Sedgewhisker reluctantly turned to look back at Petalfur, she felt a pang of guilt and sadness when the molly looked hurt. But she didn't apologize. She just hesitantly turned back to share tongues with some of her friends.

After that whole ordeal, Petalfur & Sedgewhisker avoided each other. They didn't want to be around the other anymore. Petalfur tried to make herself distracted by hanging out with her friend Mallownose, but she just couldn't stop thinking about Sedgewhisker... Petalfur wanted to tell her that she loved her too, but how could she if they were avoiding each other?

(Another timeskip (Like... inbetween NW and SOtM) Sedgewhisker couldn't hold it in anymore, so in the next gathering, she apologizes to Petalfur.

Petalfur forgives her, and asked her if she really meant it when she confessed that she loved her in that way.

Sedgewhisker admits that she does, trying to apologize again for that, but instead of Petalfur getting mad at her---she confesses back!

So they talk more often and meet up a lot. They loved spending time together, especially when they were gfs!!

But during AVoS... Tragedy struck. Petalfur was killed by one of Darktail's followers, & when Sedgewhisker hears about the news, she let out a loud cry of anguish and grief, running away from the island.

She didn't care if she caused a scene. She didn't care if she was trespassing clan territory; she just wanted to see Petalfur one... last... time...

Sedgewhisker stops at her grave, which was for some reason located somewhere in ThunderClan territory.

She recognized her scent. The scent of fresh-water & daisies. She let out a sob, sitting by Petalfur's grave.

She was punished for trespassing and causing a scene, but she didn't care. She didn't care about any of that. She just wanted to see Petalfur back.

It took two arcs (AVoS and TBC) to make her move on from her lovers' death, but she was doing fine during ASC. She still misses Petalfur, but she knows that Petal wouldn't want her to grieve and hurt herself forever.

Sedgewhisker sometimes races with Petalfur

Petalfur taught her how to swim & hunt fish :)

Not really infodumping more so than sharing a scenario I would REALLY like to happen in canon. I wanna see Breezepelt be an overbearing and smothering parent to his children.

AND NOT BECAUSE I THINK IT'S CUTE, OR RIGHT, but because I think it would be really interesting to see Breezepelt try and be the exact opposite of what Crowfeather was to him when he was a kit. Instead of being the generic warrior cats Good and Caring Father™ I want Breezepelt to try and overcompensate for his own childhood by just being absolutely 100% Too Much for his daughters.

He doesn't wanna be like his shitty dad and neglect his daughters, right?? So what should he do instead?? Share their breathing room and boundaries!!! Getting to know every single teeny tiny little aspect in all of their lives!! How are they feeling, what kind of dreams did they have? Can I go on patrol with you? Who are you talking to, do you like them, do you want to be their mate, what's their blood type, what are you gonna name your future babies?????

I just think that would add some interesting conflict in all their lives and add a lot more depth and chances to explore and go deeper, rather than "Breezepelt is a Good and Perfect Father and Husband"

This makes for such an interesting dynamic, he would be so protective... He'll visit the nursery so often the other queens think he should just make his own nest. He'd probably speak with Harestar to make sure their mentors are someone he trusts. (Hence why Appleshine and Woodsong were mentored by their older sisters lmao) Breezepelt would keep track of their training, praise them for every little catch of prey or task they do. Probably panic if he does a head count and doesn’t see or smell all four of them. And definitelyyy the intimidating father you don't want to meet, I'd imagine he's scared off potential mates a few times 💀💔...

They love him but his daughter absolutely have to ask Heathertail or their grandma Nightcloud to make him step back often but I'm not sure if he'd really grasp that he's going too far

Jaykit nuzzled his mother’s belly fur, sinking in the sea of warmth her long fur provided and shielded himself from the biting cold of leaf-bare.

She allowed it, but Jaykit felt a heavy feeling start to drip from her again, so he scooted away.

Nightcloud sighed and swept her tail through the nest to pull him closer, he found himself cheek to cheek with his brother. Jaykit frowned but still closed his eyes and soaked in the warmth. Why does she pull me close if she doesn't want me?

Is not the first time Jaykit realized the resentment his mother seems to hold towards him, the way she rushes her words when speaking to him, the way she seems to groom him briskly in comparison to doing it methodically and lovingly for Breezekit.

He thinks she loves him, she must, he is hers after all. But the amount of times he searched for an ounce of love under all that coldness and heaviness and found none were too many. And now, he feels that heaviness building up on his stomach too, why can’t she just want him.

Breezekit nuzzled his cheek and started purring, Jaykit’s bitterness was overpowered by a wave of warmth emanating from his brother, he purred back.

Nightcloud cooed, a flash of warmth came from her, Jaykit’s heart stuttered. But then it was followed by something cold. The same startling coldness cats get when they know they did something bad. Nightcloud wrapped the kits with her tail and laid her head down.

Did Nightcloud do something bad?

Jaykit drifted to sleep.

Jaykit dashed through the nursery’s entrance along Breezekit.

They ran towards the fresh-kill pile, Jaykit was proud of how he didn’t trip once, he finally knew the camp by heart.

“Not fair, you started early!” Breezekit said as he crashed into Jaykit, (Who by the way, won.) “You always say that when you lose!” Jaykit retorted, shoving his brother off him. “It doesn’t even apply, you were in front and I caught up to you.”

“Now, Breezekit. Jaykit won.” Crowfeather padded up to them, Breezekit huffed but said nothing, Jaykit shoved him playfully. Their father nosed through the freshkill pile looking for a meal for them, Jaykit could hear his unenthusiastic movements and could feel Breezekit’s growing unease.

Nightcloud caught a case of whitecough and was ushered to the medicine den by Barkface as soon as he smelled it, she was reluctant but finally decided to go once Crowfeather agreed to watch the brothers for her.

Jaykit doesn’t know how to feel about his father, he’s there but that almost doesn't really mean much. Whenever the kits try to play with him he’s stiff, whenever they try to talk to him he’s brief and whenever Jaykit tries to initiate physical contact he gets hit with this overflowing wave of painful sadness that makes him recoil immediately.

That’s what Jaykit doesn’t understand, why is his father so sad all the time? Well, when he’s feeling something. Most of the time Jaykit searches in him for something he’s met with a whole lot of nothing, just a startling void of numbness. (Concerningly apathetic, he overheard Ashfoot mutter despairingly at Whitetail one evening Oh Whitetail, where have I gone wrong?.) Crowfeather’s mind seems to be a mystery to the whole clan.

So he doesn’t really know what to make of his father, but his mother and brother definitely do. Whenever Nightcloud and Crowfeather are at close proximity the air seems to shift and become as dense as water, Jaykit realized he’s become better at swimming in it than his brother.

Breezekit gets really upset, but since he’s not Jaykit apparently he doesn’t know about the sadness, he only sees how their father never wants to play with them and how he angers their mother who does play with them. This image is only amplified by both Onestar and Webfoot, the ever-present fathers in their kits lives.

Crowfeather picked up something and hummed to get the kits to follow him, they sat down to eat under a gorse bush. Crowfeather dropped the prey and proceeded to do nothing, “Umm, can’t you open it up for us?. We don’t like the fur, Nightcloud does it for us.” Jaykit said while sniffing the prey, rabbit. “Oh” was all the tom said after some heartbeats before grabbing the rabbit again, Breezekit bumped his brother's shoulder to get his attention.

“Why can’t you just call my name, I’m not deaf.” Jaykit said annoyed, his brother bumped his shoulder again “Just making sure.” Breezekit said snarkily, he felt a wave of discomfort emanate from Crowfeather. “What do you want?” he leaned down to take a bite of the rabbit their father had poorly opened up for them “Well since we are 4 moons already, Onestar might already be considering our mentors. Who do you think you’ll get?” he heard Crowfeather almost choke beside him, weirdo.

Jaykit chewed “Well, I would like Ashfoot since she’s the best fighter I know.” Their grandmother was fierce and strict with all cats alike, except the both of them “But I wouldn’t mind Tornear, he always brings the biggest rabbits.” Though the senior warrior may be a little hard to get along with, no one can deny the quality of the prey only he can catch.

Breezekit hummed in agreement while chewing beside him “I guess I’d like Ashfoot too but I think Weaselfur would be more fun, since Ashfoot’s the deputy and all.”. Even though Ashfoot holds a soft spot for them as her grandkits, Jaykit admits that probably won’t extend to their apprenticeships. Weaselfur is the type of cat Breezekit would look up to, he’s brave and confident, likes having fun.

“Jaykit” Crowfeather started, his voice unsure. “Yes?” he answered, already feeling his father’s heavy discomfort and his brother’s growing indignation. “I just want you to know… that no one would think less of you if you don’t-” there it was “But he will!” Breezekit snarled, though Jaykit felt touched that his brother defended him, he can’t deny hearing his father saying it stung.

He’s known since he was young, I mean how could he not? And obviously everyone around him knew. He has overheard everyone make a comment about it once or twice, never encouraging. He hates it obviously, but what can he do? Nightcloud, as unsure as she seems around him, is still fiercely confident that he will make it, so Jaykit is grateful for that. Crowfeather, like always, is just sad-Jaykit resents him for that, what can being sad do? And Breezekit loves him (he never said it of course, they’re both way too prideful.), so he’s upset about it all, he hates his brother having to be so angry all the time.

“I-I’m just saying-just in case he-” Crowfeather stutters, the sour sadness and cold regret emanating from him in waves. “What about grandfather?” Jaykit said, trying his best to keep his voice from wavering. Crowfeather paused and audibly gulped.

“Well Deadfoot was disabled too but-”

“But he made it, didn’t he?”

“Yes! but it’s really not-”

“He got the support that he needed and made it!”

Jaykit knew his fur was bristled, he might be trembling too actually “I just-” his voice cracks so he snaps his mouth shut. “Oh Jaykit- I only-” Crowfeather takes a deep breath.

“I only want to keep you from getting hurt, it’s going to be hard and different and I don’t know what to do-”

“You don’t have to do anything!” he snarls. Breezekit presses against him, his own heart beating fast as his.

“You just-” he breathes in and out, the air thick and so full of emotion it makes him sick “You just have to be there.”

He waits for Crowfeather to argue with him, to start crying or to just straight up get up and leave. But he only pulls both kits close to him and licks both of their heads, the usual bitter sadness shifting to the warmth he’s normally unused to when it comes to his parents.

“Ok” his father says in a trembling voice, “I’ll be there”.

Jaykit struggled to keep his eyes open, even though he felt tired, the bristling excitement of tomorrow was still coursing through his bones.

Onestar has passed through the nursery early this morning and has informed them that tomorrow morning Breezekit and he would get apprenticed, Jaykit remembers the shock at the overwhelming love and pride that flowed from his mother.

Heatherpaw, Harepaw and Kestrelpaw were all apprenticed last moon, (Harepaw got Tornear, but oh well, at least he was getting apprenticed. Kestrelpaw is Barkface’s apprentice now so Jaykit is safe from that.) so both he and Breezekit were getting restless at the empty nursery. And so was Nightcloud apparently, windclan cats are not made to be kept inside.

He honestly didn’t think Onestar would even consider making him an apprentice, he has this no-nonsense type of attitude Jaykit knew wasn’t fond of him in particular. Whenever he’s near, Jaykit gets flooded with pure sour annoyance. And he wasn’t fond of his father either, so whatever Crowfeather did to get their leader to agree must have been costly. Jaykit is thankful.

“Jaykit, the first day is always rough, you’ll need the energy.” Nightcloud purred, amused “Thanks for not giving up.” Jaykit slurred while he pressed against Breezekit’s sleeping form. Nightcloud stilled and Jaykit prepared himself for a wave of cold regret, but only she licked the top of his head until he drifted away “Make me proud Jaykit, this is only the beginning.”

He fell asleep to her words with warmth in his heart, so he didn’t immediately realize where his dreams had taken him.

He couldn’t always see in his dreams, they’re normally more about sensations and feelings. And the times where he could see were only on one type of dream and incredibly hazy, he was on the snow, surrounded by other warm pelts and enveloped by pure love and gut wrenching sadness at the same time.

But right now he got whiplash by how bright everything was, not that he has ever seen it but he assumed this is what the night sky must look like. He looked down and was greeted by his own paws, gray tabby they had told him, he imagined he was bigger. He walked forward, taking in his surroundings and sniffing the air. Could this possibly be starclan?

Oh no.

Has he died a day before getting apprenticed?! Breezekit was going to kill him-

“You’re not dead, young one.” a melodious voice spoke, Jaykit turned around with a hiss of surprise. A cat was sitting there, she was blurry and starry, and since he had never really seen another cat before he wouldn’t really know, but she looked wise.

“Who-who are you?” he cursed himself for stuttering, he attempted a fighting stance but by the she-cat’s curling amusement he probably looked dumb. “I’m Moth flight, I was Windclan’s medicine cat many, many moons ago.” Emphasis on many, of course.

Jaykit bowed immediately “I know! Sorry for not recognizing you!” she purred and walked up to him. “I’m actually surprised you remembered the stories you were told about me, many kits don’t tend to care” she paused and Jaykit resisted the urge to fidget under her bright green gaze “I guess you are different”.

“What would the first medicine cat have to say to a mere kit?” he asked, he was getting a bad feeling about this but he would be lying if he said he wasn’t curious. “Well you’re not exactly a mere kit, are you?” she smiled gently and placed her tail on his back, her starry fur soft but strange “You might not know this but mere kits can’t feel other cats’ feelings”.

“You don’t say.”

She giggled “Well I guess it is quite obvious, you know, you’re not the first cat starclan has given powers to. Many others have walked this path that you have been destined to.” she paused and sighed “Even if that path has been a little altered.”

“What does that mean?”

“Nothing. Say Jaykit, won’t you consider becoming a medicine cat?”

“What?! No way, besides I can’t take Kestrelpaw’s position!”

“Well that wouldn’t have been a problem if only-” she snapped her mouth shut and sighed again “He’s a good cat, trusts in Starclan, I shall talk to him and he'll understand that your destiny takes priority over his and-".

"No don't say that! It isn't true!" A day before he gets what he wants, really?!

Moth flight face tightened "Jaykit, this is for starclans sake!" Jaykit bristled with anger, his own mixing in the air with hers.

"And why do I need to be a medicine cat for that?!"

"Well you-your parents fear for you Jaykit, If you become a medicine cat you'll bring them peace of mind. Isn't that what you wa-"

"No! You can't just bring up my parents to avoid a question, you are hiding something!"

Her piercing green eyes were swirling with anger, but she just sighed again “I guess this is what I get.” Jaykit’s heart was beating so loud in his ears he had a hard time understanding what she said “What-”.

“I’ll be watching over you, Jaykit.”.

He blinked and suddenly he couldn’t see anymore.

Some Anons asked for CrookedBlueThistle and SandWhisker, so I made an AU for both!

When Doestar tells Pinestar to kill Tigerkit, he instead is lured to the Dark Forest due to his Emotional Turmoil. This leads to Thunderclan becoming like a combo of Sol influenced Blackstar’s and Brokenstar’s Shadowclan - unsafe for anyone but unable to do much. Those who protest wake from horrible dreams covered in claw marks.

Bluefur and Thistletuft are two who want out. They bonded over losing siblings in some fashion to Pinestar - Snowclaw as his newest mate, and Sweetpaw to illness that could have been treated had Pinestar not outright banned the medicine cats from the clan. When they realize that Bluefur is pregnant, there is much panic. When they find Tigerpaw literally torturing a kitten, it gives the pair the determination to leave. They run for Riverclan, having befriended Crookedjaw at a few gatherings and border patrols. Hailstar is horrified, Pinestar having lied and the DF cats distracting the Starclan cats to keep the moon out at gatherings, and welcomes them with open arms. The clans attack Thunderclan, and a Dark Forest/Starclan battle is waged. Pinestar and his lackeys are defeated, Tigerpaw vanishes into the twoleg dens, and Sunstar rises to power. The medicine cats return, and things settle. Hailstar is down to his last life when Crookedjaw starts nesting with the newly renamed Otterfur and Sweetheart, and they name a kit in his honor before he joins Starclan.

Back in Thunderclan, Sandpaw gets angry at her mentor for being weak-willed, and has a good Run to get her emotions out. Onepaw sees this and gives her pointers on aerodynamics, and they bond over mentors and being fast. Sandstorm (for her fierce personality instead of Whitestorm) eventually joins Windclan after realizing she isn’t comfortable in the woods, and Sunstar and Tallstar agree - as long as she’s happy, they’re happy too. Onewhisker and Sandstorm bond even more, and no one is surprised when kits happen. Heatherfoot and Nightcloud become a couple and love Breezekit and Jaykit to pieces, and Gorsebloom and Crowfeather have an on-and-off relationship that results in Hollykit and Dandelionkit, who have a supportive family even if their parents aren’t together.

Yes of course! As the mother of Sedgewhisker, who is later revealed to be the true third member of WindClan's 12, I have a lot I've written about her. She's such a fun cat to really think about and make headcanons for. I also updated her design.

She's Genderfluid. Most of the time she sticks to her she/her pronouns, but how she truly feels - tom or molly wise - depends on the day.

She and Crowfeather are littermates.

She was named by Ashfoot after Gorsepaw, Morningflower's kit killed by Tigerstar.

She's sassy and has a bit of spoiled attitude like her brother. When your deputy dad dies in battle and one of your siblings dies from a cold at 3 moons old, the clan puts in extra support to make sure you're well taken care of. Her and her brother get away with a lot.

She keeps her brother in check, though he does the same to her. Their snarky retorts are only matched by each other, and most of WindClan questions if they like each other or not even. While they were genuinely close as apprentices, it is unclear if they get along now, or are distant and act this way due to general dislike of each other.

She delayed her apprentice ceremony in hopes of her brother coming back, unaware he was on the Great Journey. She got picked on by some of the younger apprentices for still sleeping in the apprentice den when she was "so big". When the forest territories began to be destroyed, she realized life is too short to wait around on something she can't be for sure of, and takes her name as Gorsetail. She was the last WindClan cat to have a warrior ceremony in the forest territories.

She's excited to see her brother when he returns, but he's very dismissive - a shell of the snarky and arrogant brother she knew. Instead he's withdrawn, cold, and pretty quiet. She only really pieces it together when he names himself Crowfeather and she learns of the journey...

She sided with Onewhisker during the WindClan civil war.

Nightcloud yelled at her when her kits snuck off to the tunnels because the black she-cat couldn't believe a mother could let her three perfectly healthy kits get up to something so dangerous. Gorsetail doesn't really hold much resentment though, knowing how overprotective Nightcloud is of Breezepaw and all.

Guess half-clan relationships run in the family, because her mate is Beechfur of RiverClan. Her and Crowfeather don't fess up to each other until Crowfeather gets outed for his ThunderClan kits at the Gathering by Lionblaze [in my AU, but you can view it as Holly]. She's sympathetic to her brother and admits to everyone in WindClan after the gathering that she had her own RiverClan mate and half-clan kits, in an act of solidarity with Crowfeather. Though Sedgepaw, Thistlepaw, and Swallowpaw are pretty miffed about this since they didn't sign up to get ostracized.

She's a friend of Nightcloud's and always rooted for her and Crowfeather to work out, even always putting in an effort to be nice to her nephew, Breezepelt. However, their friendship goes a bit sour after she admits to her own half-clan relationship.

Do you have any plans for BB!Nightcloud's relationships beyond Crowfeather? Her divorcing him and marrying Leafpool isn't... feasible, unfortunately, but it would be the funniest possible thing she could do. Are there any WindClan cats she could wife/husband/spouse up while giving Crow the well-deserved finger?

I want her to have some friends, but the cornerstone of her character is that unfortunately she is quite lonely.

She doesn't want to be like Hillrunner. Hillrunner taught her about fear, she taught her to always have a backup plan, she taught her to watch her tone, her actions, the amount of space she was occupying at any moment. She taught her not to trust.

She doesn't want to be like Hillrunner. She lost a mother she doesn't remember to Crookedstar and Nightstar. She lost her Mi to TigerClan. She lost her sister to BloodClan. She lost her rebellion leader to StarClan's fury.

She doesn't want to be like Hillrunner. How do you not be like Hillrunner? What does it look like to be unlike her?

Keeping friends is difficult. It feels like everyone is just tolerating her. Nightcloud doesn't know the right things to say, or if they even like her or if they're just pretending. Crowfeather makes this worse; try to be genuine with him and he'll turn that against you. Argue too much and he'll accuse her of not listening. You can't play fair with unfair people.

Breezekit makes sense. This is the first time anything has felt easy since Tawnyfur died.

So I don't know if romance is really in the cards for her. She would like it, wants it, but Crowfeather has soured it badly. What she really needs is some friends.

I have a few interesting ones in mind;

Whitewater of ShadowClan: she is the secret parent of Harespring and Kestrelflight with Mudclaw, I think it's interesting if her and Night were close-ish as rebels, but now, looking at each other... brings up complicated feelings. Maybe Nightcloud can request to mentor Harepaw.

Addersong: A kit that Tallstar saved while he was a warrior, grew up into a happy and joyful adult. He was Nightcloud's mentor, but joins the Elder's den sometime after arriving at the Lake. I feel like he should always be someone Night can turn to.

Willowclaw: Background warrior who's getting a boost because WindClan needs more going on. Fellow fantastic warrior who likes to spar with her. Maybe when Nightcloud is out of the relationship with Crowfeather she starts actively trying to hang out with Willow, who's kind of secretive.

(Note: Leafpool x Nightcloud is one of my very harmless squicks. I mean no judgement to others, I know it's popular with other Nightcloud fans, but I strongly dislike it so it's never going to be considered in any way for BB.)

To the LeafCrow not making sense anon, I think the logic behind it goes like this tbh:

Leafpool was a young and open hearted cat, and if my memory serves me right, was making small mistake after mistake which was causing issues with she and Cinderpelt (which I think she internalized). I could be wrong ofc, but from what I recall, that’s why Cinderpelt reacted the way she did when Leaf was seeing Crow secretly. And I think Leaf had been waffling if she should even be a healer cat at that point, too.

For Crowfeather, he was still suffering from Feathertail’s loss (regardless of how shallow or not that whole relationship was) and was probably very vulnerable and felt a connection with Leaf simply because he was able to save her, something he couldn’t do for Feathertail. Tbh I also attribute this to why he got with Nightcloud later. He was probably vulnerable after Leafpool when he genuinely thought she was his chance to be happy again. (This is coming from someone who only read the main series books ofc! If I’m wrong bc Crowfeather’s trial revealed much more, absolutely don’t listen to me 🙂)

I’m indifferent to LeafCrow as a ship, but from someone who read the books multiple times before the newer issues came out, that was how I always interpreted it. And that’s to add that LeafCrow was still likely dysfunctional later, I think it falls into unfortunate circumstances that they may have fallen in love (or believed to have been in love).

nightcloud and mapleshade for about the same reasons nightcloud bwcause she just. plain didnt do anyhting wrong, the worst thing she ever did was scratch crowfeather (im pretty sure she was trying to pull him away from something?? i need to reread a few books) and mapleshade for a boatload of reasons but mostly because like. tge fandom hates her too much, yeah shes like. mean, she murder i guess but the fandom bashes her while loving the male villians, she didnt really do anything wrong either, she just kinda snapped because she was being treated shitty, she is. still a bad person dont get me wrong but cmon guys dont. call the funny red cat a whore (directed at somebody i know cough cough) anyway girlbosses woaw

for the nightcloud thing, i believe ur right, she was just trying to pull crow away from? something, i genuinely forgot. i believe he was arguing abt smth and she was pulling him away from doing more dumb shit. nightcloud is an extremely misrepresented cat, she has done no wrong i love her

and mapleshade. oh god i could go on an entire tangent abt HER STORY. her story is a textbook cautionary tale/unreliable narrator. its so WEIRD people hate her more than the male murderers? why tho... i wonder why that is. i had to cut like 5 sentences cuz i went on a tangent I TOLD YOU I COULD GO ON ONE

TBH, I can't get into depictions of Crowfeather that sand his edges either. But I feel for me it's both because canon grabs you by the ankle and drags behind you about how much of a tortured soul he is for losing his crush (he isn't) and that it's actually okay he hit his son once and constantly neglected and snapped at him because Nightcloud is a mean, coddling, lying hag (she wasn't) that sours 'kinder' depictions for me, AND how it's only bad fathers like Crowfeather. Nobody (besides Bonefall with his depiction of Lizardstripe) is making more charitable depictions of bad mothers, so why should I care about shitty dads being written to be good lmao? Especially when people can't even handle the idea of mothers like Curlfeather actually caring about her kid despite hurting her (something that, you know, actually makes more sense than Crowfeather caring about his own son since we see her die for Frostpaw)?

Oh absolutely hit the nail on the head for me, it's one thing if the author doesn't necessarily think Crowfeather is a bad father (loud incorrect buzzer noise), but I think even with people who acknowledge Crow's canon behavior it's just such a big NOPE for me. The writing team and the fandom spent so much time being abysmal towards the subject, it's left too much of a sour taste in my mouth to enjoy the character at all. I just don't think anything's going to salvage Crowfeather for me. He's a light in the mist, he's running for deputy, Breezepelt doesn't resent him, Nightcloud doesn't resent him, and Leafpool nearly got sent to cat hell (and also doesn't get to resent him). I do not like him <3 I need him to drop dead <3

Really good point about depictions of bad mothers (looks at the "bad mother" map. where is the bad father map people, where is it). Seeing as how people like to make Nightcloud worse ("Nightcloud would use her son as a therapist" "Nightcloud physically and emotionally abused Crowfeather" "Nightcloud was a predator", that one au map that sort of implied Nightcloud was transphobic(???), the list goes on), I'm not interested in stuff that attempts to make Crowfeather better. Once again, no hate towards the author or any AU's that do this, I just have Strong Feelings and otherwise avoid that stuff.

Also big agree, I don't understand why Curlfeather caring about Frostpaw would be such an awful thing, we don't need another antagonistic mother who's evilness is tied to her lack of maternal instincts. On my hands and knees PLEASE.
