now I may be cornplating here but. One interesting thing I noticed about MTAS and MTAP is the difference in how the research is structured in terms of the roles the characters have in the system.

in the My Time Universe (MTU for short ig) its notable that the seperation between research and archeology is a lot less clear, with archeology informing researchers on how to view the machines theyre studying and what exactly to look for, and research informing archeology about the purpose of what they find. They are very much close together, as being a researcher is less about discovering new solutions and more about discovering how old solutions worked and how to reappropiate them in a world where they’ve backslid in knowlege. Archeology is still very much about the stories and history of locations where research is still very much about the science, but the line dividing what those two things mean is a lot more blurry.

Now, you can see this seperation a bit in MTAP, with Petra being more archeology focused and Merlin being more research focused, but both are still interested in the other fields, both of them wanting to discover both the how of the science and the why of the archeology. Merlin and Petra work closely together, overall united in their goal of discovery for the sake of discovery.

However, MTAS takes this more cooperative approach and splits it, into Qi and Grace, showing you both sides seperately through two people who do not get along, using their fields to say something about how they think as well, and I think thats an interesting change. It sort of shows you both parts seperately, but brings attention to how they are still closely intertwined.

Qi has no real interest in people or individuals, and doesnt really care about how stuff got there. He does still speculate, like when you find the equitorial mount and hes like “there was probably an observatory here” and he still has a lot of knowlege of old world stuff, obviously. But his focus is very much on the innerworkings of the technology, how he can use it and how he can improve it (and how he can make silly things that cater to his specific interests,) hes also not really interested in it for discovery itself most of the time and will just straight up avoid things he has no interest in (Rosy) despite the fact they would probably further knowlege.

Grace, although she also is interested in how the tech works and knows a lot (both because of her actual job and interest in archeology), is more interested in the personal side. I dont know if she was actually writing a research paper on the Breach or if that was a hoax, but I feel like regardless of if shes an actual archeology student on the side or not, she did take a class on it and it is an interest of hers, because I cant think of any other reason she would want the thing’s she asked you to get. Grace is more interested in what objects say about people than how they work. She also has a goal other than discovery itself, she wants to use this knowlege to help her discover how people themselves tick. 

This makes them sort of at odds with eachother, and although their actual fields dont really come up, its more of a symbollic type of battle. Is efficency more important or is the human experience? Do we focus more on the human component, truly understanding and engaging with the past, or do we focus on the best way to optimize and improve past technologies? And really, its a false dichotomy. Both exist, and they exist together and inform eachother, as shown with Merlin and Petra. 

I just find it interesting the approach they both take, MTAS taking the system shown in MTAP and elaborating on it with stronger personalities both interested for more selfish reasons. I dont really know if I worded this correctly but I tried I hope you see my vision.

You and your long-term boyfriend, Pablo, were currently on vacation in Jordan. As you and Pablo passed by, there were many tourists on the hike, just like you two. A sudden tap on the shoulder made Pablo turn around, and soon you. A couple had kindly asked if your boyfriend could take photos of them, which he agreed to do. Pablo kept instructing the couple to be in a certain pose, straighten their backs, or put their hands somewhere, almost like Pablo was a professional photographer, which probably could be due to him acting like one.

"My girlfriend taught me how to do this," he chuckled, making the couple erupt in a light laugh. But it was true; you made him take many photos for your Instagram. Whether it was for fun or for a simple ad, it was always him unless it was a very professional advertisement.

Even though the couple only wanted one picture, Pablo managed to take a couple hundred or more. The couple said a quick thank you before scurrying off, and soon after that, many other people happened to ask Pablo to assist them with pictures. It was about 45 minutes later, and Pablo was on his 5th client. You were so bored that you just scrolled on your phone, occasionally looking at what he was doing from time to time. After that, he looked tired from crouching and laying down to take good pictures.

"I'm so tired now, I don't even want to walk," he said, slowly dragging his feet against the sand. You pulled his arm, which forced him to walk faster.

"I told you I'm tired!" Pablo whined, trying to keep up with your rapid pace. He was about to say something else, but you gave him a look that made him shut up.

"Well, that's too bad!" you said, walking faster so he could suffer.

At the end of the day, you both plopped down on the hotel bed, your sore legs not so sore anymore. A relaxed exhale escaped, and you looked at Pablo who also appeared relaxed. You initiated a cuddle which ended up with you two sleeping wrapped in each other's arms for the whole night.

Ed stared at the corpse. He felt... nothing. Not... vindication, not anger, not grief or... anything.

His eyes flicked first toward the child backing away down the alley into the dark street, curly blonde hair sticking out from under a plastic viking helmet. Ed dropped the shard of glass that had been digging into his hand. He didn't even remember picking it up, but there were several other bottles littering the street, so he must have grabbed one.

Was that his blood or...

The glass shattered loudly in the too silent street.

"Beo, I..." Ed started weakly. He'd promised both of them he would never expose Beo to violence. Not after everything e'd already endured.

The child turned and ran, disappearing into the dark.

Ed didn't dare chase after Beowulf. E wasn't safe with him anymore. He had no right to take care of Petra's child after what he'd done.

Ed sank to the ground, his body aching from the abuse he'd endured in the fight. He wasn't a fighter, he had no experience or training in martial arts or street fighting, but when he'd seem that man, drunk and pinning Beo to the wall with a predatory look in his eyes, when he heard the things he said he'd do... Ed snapped.

Ed could feel the gash in his side, his shirt sticky-hot and plastered to his side. That would need stitches, if not surgery.

The state was going to take custody of Beo since Ed was clearly violent and unfit to take care of a child. Or at the very least while the investigation was going on.

He turned to Alan, finally registering that he was there. He knew he could trust Alan to take care of Beowulf, even if he hated the idea of burdening Alan with a kid he probably didn't want. He turned to him with a desperate look on his face. "Please... Look after Beowulf for me. E has no other place to go right now..."

creek is an artist. always has been and always will be. creek is also, at the start of misfit mania when he meets axel, not very good socially since his only friends / people he knew his entire life were his brother tide (who is also terrible socially) and pike (who is also terrible socially).

so when he and pike arrive to beacontown alongside petra and cal, he’s had a bit of time to get used to Speaking with people who are different compared to his and pike’s more hesitant / natures.

but axel throws him on his head a bit. axel’s a lot like cal, and creek does find them both attractive, but axel’s Wilder. and he takes an immediate interest in creek and his background, both for creek’s odd appearance and the company of pike. pike Hates this because she thinks axels “too rowdy” but we aren’t talking about her

though he takes much more interest in creek than his companions. the mutual physical attraction is there, and they both off the bat want to get to Know each other. there’s mutual interest, and axel not being Weirded out by creek’s appearance also makes creek very interested in him. plus they have cute banter and it makea me smile .

we get axels Full pov of creek in ch25 of misfits but theres a lot of silly moments between them where axel pulls out more and more of creeks adventurous / silly side and creek actually very much enjoys hearing About his adventures … and more banter . i love love their banter .

and this bit From chapter 25 thats a flashback that i really Really like . probably one of my favorite crexel bits . i adoreeee the banter and the way these two bounce off of each other Everyone ship crexel NOW . Joke . Half joke

in misfit mania i Really lean into two things i notice in the mcsm fandom: people never really … ship axel with anyone. there are No popular ships involving axel. so i dig into this with axels character: its the part of himself he hates the most, but hes jealous of his friends and their romantic relationships. nobody looks at him like how jesse and lukas look at each other. nobody looks at him like how olivia and petra look at each other. but he learns to live with it, pushes the Want for something like that down, until he meets creek—who Does want him.

and when the time comes for the “confession” scene they dont really Need words even if creek is trying to put words to it in the moment. the two of them throughout the fic have a whole “we like dumb people” thing going on and its very cute … they r everything to me i love you crexel

OK FIRST OF ALL I HAVE TO SAY if you were one of the people i messaged i must confess i did not move away I LIED!!!! i just wanted to be alone and didnt want anyone coming to my house to check on me if they thought i was dead. I was also like NOTTTT going outside except to work my shitty job that i hated and was overcompensating by partying way too hard but also being chihuahua level scared and noided at the same time. I maybe seized in a parking lot a little bit. Maybe. I dont remember. It is okay now. So i started getting paranoid (normal paranoid, not mentally ill paranoid) that ppl were stalking me and doxxing me and i was afraid for no reason that ppl were following me around town and coming to my house. So i wiped like all my social media and told ppl that i moved away. THAT WAS CRAZYYYYYY im okay now.

Soooo whats actually been going on with me? Welllll although i did not actually run away, a little part of the messages i sent was actually true! i quit my shit ass bartending job and now i am….a medical marijuana farmer!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE LIFE!!!!!!!!!! I also met a bunch of friends irl but they r very libfem so i have to tone down the troonhating irl. However now i get to party (RESPONSIBLY. Most of the time.) and i am very happy. Got to do a shroom (just one) and have more opportunities for more shroom in the future. All i ever wanted. I watched chainsaw man. I read chainsaw man. okay so i shouldve put this down at the start but i couldnt write it down without crying.

this sounds pathetic but i dont think i trust my diary even though its an INANIMATE OBJECT.

god what is wrong with me.

ive never told anyone about this, only my mom knows.

it happened when i was in my mom's hometown in mexico for the summer, i went to go run some errands or my mom, since it was a small and safe town (or so i thought) it was common to see little kids walking around alone, i was ten at the time, so i guess i was one of those kids, i was headed to the grocery store when i was pulled into an alley by a middle aged man, i tried to scream but her covered my mouth. he started running his hands through my body, he was unbvttoning my jeans when my mom's friend, doña petra, who had a store infront of the alley ran in and knocked him out with a broom, then called the cops, she walked me home and told my mom what happened. i never walked out alone in mexico again.

its heather day! since heather is one of me and jaime's favorite songs, we celebrate heather day every year! we exchange sweaters and jokingly talk about people we were jealous about (classmates, celeberties, fictional characters, etc..) while we eat ice cream. i skipped out on the ice cream since i didnt want to gain weight (lost 4 pounds since nov 6 :DD) it was still really fun though! i wanted to talk about how jealous i was of mei, i was jealous of her hair, her clear skin, her flat stomach and hourglass wait, her straight teeth, and that she had jaime, and i didnt. as soon as i thought of mei, jaime started talking about how he had canceled plans with mei to be here, i was preparing myself to hear more about mei until he told me how much he'd missed hanging out with me.
