I agree that would've been lovely to see but there's a few things to keep in mind here. The American Music Awards aren't exactly merit based, they're primarily a TV show. They were created in the 70s by legendary TV producer Dick Clark to compete with the Grammys when the network he worked for (ABC) lost their contract to air that show. And since they were created with that intent, they have always made a point to nominate/award artists they think are going to draw the most attention/ratings (officially they claim their criteria is based on 'commerical performance' which is a fancy way of saying it's about name recognition) and since their switch in the early 2000s to the winners being fan voted, it's become even easier to guarantee the broadcast is centered around the most popular or headline-grabbing names. I, of course, say this with all the love and respect in my heart but it makes sense that 5SOS doesn't quite fit that criteria at this moment in time.

However! It appears that 5SOS5 just missed the window of eligibility for this year's show so who knows what could happen by next year!
