Achieved start of the year goals

Didn't fulfill my last year's goal of making commissions a full time job. I mean, I did for a little bit while but it's still not the right time yet.

Though what I did unexpectedly accomplish is that my fear of cockroaches had decreased. We had a family of house shrews this year (usually we had mice) and I learned they mainly eat insects. I still like to avoid killing the few huntsman spiders we have hanging around so the next big insect available would normally be a roach. So I'd bonk one if I find one (instead of immediately bolting out the room) so I can feed the shrews. I mean cockroaches, specially the American cockroach, still freaks me the heck out. But, like, it's shrew food.

Oh, also bought a display tab. I'll always be grateful to the Ko-fi supporters for reaching this goal! I'm still in the middle finding my rhythm with the tablet. Considering getting a paperlike screen protector to minimize the glass texture.

2024 goal

A new laptop of course. My ideapad is in the cusps of dying. 😭

I don't feel that productive in the drawing department this year. :/ My current day job does pay a little higher than my commissions and ko-fi requests combined... But I really don't fill fulfilled when I make less drawings. Let's see if I can make commissions a full time job this year. Or at least try to see if I can make my top source of income drawing related.

There are other goals I hope to accomplish this year, but these are the main drawing related ones.

Regarding commissions

There will be some adjustments to the background prices in regular commissions. Because, like, I shouldn't price it lower than the base price if I spent as much time drawing it. Lol

I think I'll rate Ko-fi doodle requests based on what the piece literally contain instead of basing on the amount of time spent drawing the request. It'll make things simpler specially with comics. I'll make a post about the changes when I decide on the settled rates

I had a pretty clear idea for this piece so I did not sketch much and I was pretty happy with the first sketch so I'm also adding some more process pics as I also did a little color test

help me and my parents pay for college! (writing commissions)

i really hate having to do this but i wouldn’t if i had any more options left, hi! my name is leo, and i’m currently in my third semester of college as a psych major in méxico. me and my family have always had financial difficulties but lately things have taken a turn for the worse and i’m in desperate need of financial aid to help pay for my next semester. 

my dad runs a self made business that’s been struggling well before the pandemic and he got sick a couple of years ago with nephrotic syndrome- in remission now, but its still a hit to us financially. my mom had to find work when things got tight, but as the last of four children, i’m having a really hard time getting through my college education.

writing comissions are open for fanfiction, oc work, and poetry, as you can see in this post here. i can also work as an english/spanish translator, editor, and beta reader. here’s a link to my ao3 if you wanna see examples of my work, along with my masterlist here on tumblr, though i haven’t written much for this site in a little bit.

on the topic of privacy tips and ko-fi commissions, it sure seems to be these days that websites hide the log out button in a less enticing place than... every other action you would be reaching for, and some that you wouldn't otherwise be reaching for. if you aren't already clearing login data every time you close your browser, this further disincentivises people from logging out of things. giving more opportunities to collect data that you only agree to give as a user / that can now more easily be connected to you as a user.

#important piece of context i missed: i had to open a second menu to log out of ko-fi like i do with tumblr these days #o-ver-pow-ered. that spells op #firefox has total cookie protection that prevents most cross-site snooping (even if they can still find other common data & trade info) #but you may recall that chrome and derivatives still have the biggest market share. websites can count on its lack of privacy interests #they Will design with that in mind. continuing to use lowest common denominator privacy measures enables their data brokering
