Headcanons under the read more :]c

1. Most of the bishops wear the worshipper robes just because they're similar to their old bishop robes and comfortable, all of them do different things tho! Heket's the only one who wears the basic follower clothes since she hates the idea of looking like she would ever really worship the lamb.

2. I like to think that after being chained up for so long, Narinder has some issues with moving his arms/using them for too long + some chronic pain as a result. If anyone asks he gets really defensive about it

3. After being brought back, Shamura and the lamb actually get along pretty well! They aren't as bothered about losing their place as a bishop as much as their other siblings, and they're honestly happier just being able to be around them again without things being as strained as before.

4. All of the bishops but Narinder got to keep their funky pupils! The reason why being; Narinder sorta had most of his powers taken from him and he ended up in the form of a "follower" as a result. But the bishops died with their crowns, and since the lamb had to use parts of them to make their new bodies, they still had enough of their old powers for it to barely affect their new forms.

There's more stuff I have figured out but I'll probably wait until I have a name for the au or smth. My ask box is open if anyone has any suggestions or general questions!

Bishop Headcannons because I’m bored and should be going to sleep but I’m not :)

- Shamura, before getting their brain split in half, had really good photographic memory. They often did sketches that were almost exactly true to life.

- Kallamar is the squid equivalent of a magpie. Just collects all the shiny shit he can and stashes it away.

-Leshy can and will eat anything. He is eat first, ask questions later.

-Heket had mixed feelings about having siblings and took a while to warm up to Kallamar and Narinder, but almost immediately took to Leshy. (Definitely her favorite.)

-Narinder attachment to Shamura from the very start was strong. He clung to them, only ever wanted attention from them, and as he got older, heavily studied under Shamura’s guidance. They had much closer relationship because of this.

-Leshy is cannibalistic. When they first found Leshy, he was a wee bab and had already killed and ate another god. Heket’s reaction was basically “wow my new brother is metal as hell!” Perhaps that why they are so close :)

-Kallamar really likes weapons. Like, REALLY like them. It’s a little concerning how many he owns and even more concerning that he knows how to wield ALL of them.

-Heket loved to sing, and would hum lullabies to her brothers when they were babies. With her throat slit, she no longer can talk and by extension can’t sing anymore. She’s has learned the skill of telepathy and can technically sing that way but it doesn’t hit the same way.

-Shamura is a history geek all the way. Loved learning about historical figures, great battles, and even more obscure facts that the average person/god would not know about. Has to be stopped before going on a history info dump, else you’d be sitting there for many, many weeks.

-Narinder and Kallamar used to be super close, as Narinder would help with Kallamar anxieties and generally was a source of encouragement. Kallamar in turn let Narinder run free in Anchordeep, which caused a lot a chaos but Kallamar thought it was funny at the time.

-Leshy and Narinder are partners in crime. If one is in trouble, you bet the other one is also. If Leshy caused a forest fire, you know Narinder participated as well. If Narinder is stealing spell books from Shamura, you know Leshy will join in on the fun.

- Everyone is super sadistic, no matter how sweet/cowardly (looking at Kallamar) they appear to be. Heket and Leshy especially like torturing mortals, whether it be turning them into mushrooms or feeding them to the big worm himself.

-Kallamar embodies prey aggression, despite not being prey. Being cowardly has its downsides, sure, but if Kallamar is in fight or flight mode, god forbid he thinks flight won’t work. If literally left with no other options he has a sword, a staff, and fucking holy grenade bomb to chuck at you, and he’s not going to hold back.

Some ideas for past Red Crown vessels. Considering the Lamb gets to meet TOWW only in death and gains the Red Crown on their first death, does that mean every previous Red Crown Vessel died to receive the crown? Imagine how many times TOWW gave someone his crown with the promise to bring them back to life, give them another chance as long as they follow his word and free him.

Just imagine how many times TOWW has given someone another chance at life. Given them the chance to mend relationships, to kill out of revenge, out of hatred, to see someone dear one more time, to get back whats theirs, all as long as they form a cult in TOWW's name and free him. Imagine how many times TOWW ripped away everything they worked hard for, everything they cared for, because they keep failing and disappointing him over and over again.

I call this one "found family but it goes horribly wrong in an irreparable way" :)

I've been doing a lot of cotl comics but I kinda lost my comic making endurance after not working on art since last september, so I made this to help me flex my art muscles. Apologies for the watermarks lmao they kinda kill the mood but I've already had people repost my art when I put it on reddit so...might as well get the credit if my stuff is gonna be reposted regardless. RAMBLE INCOMING!!

Thinking about how shamura was most likely the one to find + raise their adopted siblings and help them survive the mass deicide that happened thousands of years before....OUUGH. I have so many ideas for comics that take place when half the bishops were still lil kids. I have one in progress right now actually. But it just hurts when I remember how it all ends- they loved their family for so long and yet they credit their love as what caused it to fall apart!!! The lore of the bishops only sunk in when I was dealing with my own heavy sibling angst, and I was like wow....shamura supported the sibs so much they accidentally encouraged their brother into being a heretic, and couldn't close pandora's box in time to save him or the rest of the family. They blame themself for the past 1,000 years and seem to be totally okay with dying for what they did?? Like when they get sent to the shadow realm they tell you to "finish the job" instead of leaving them in purgatory. And despite being the bishop of war, they are the only bishop to not have a "desperate" phase where their attacks get more brutal. They're not desperate, they just want to get it over with. All their other siblings are dead by then anyway so it's not like they have anything to stick around for, even if they were healthy enough to win the battle. Plus I mean...narinder is the bishop of death so they probably just want to see him one last time. Owch

Don't get me wrong I love to hate narinder and his only role in my cult is the guy who cleans the outhouse, but I really like his dynamic with shamura vs. the other siblings. I kinda see him as the troubled kid that couldn't assimilate into the family and shamura took it upon themself to try and fix him. It's interesting thinking about how they're the only one he shows remorse for despite feeling the most betrayed by them. I don't think he 100% hates them, he's just been locked in gay baby jail for so long he's had nothing better to think about than "my sibling encouraged me to experiment with my godly duties, and then punished me for it!!". He's not wrong? But also is shamura that wrong either??? Idk it's complicated with no real answer and I like it a lot, I wish the game told us more about what the bishops were like before they got their shit rocked during the schism. I would've loved to see shamura before their brain was turned to mush by their tbi + 1,000 years of suffocating grief and crushing guilt :)

PS: For clarity's sake, there are many symbols in COTL that don't actually have a certain meaning. Many of which were simply marks to indicate who made something (primarily churches and so on). This is particularly directed to the symbols thrown around when ichor hits the ground, when you open a chest, when you construct something, and even would go as far as to say chemach's followers symbols.

That is to say, they still have a meaning, however up to interpretation.

EDIT: Here is the sheet I found for reference to the "meaningless" symbols that I mentioned earlier. For anyone curious. You can find some of these in cards too. I'll go into it next time.

This is one of the few sheets of actually useful info I found during my small period of time in which I pulled an all nighter because it's actually frustrating to find anything about the symbols in COTL, because some are mere inspiration or aren't faithful to the original symbol. If you are truly interested in the meaning behind most drawings/symbols you find in this game I STRONGLY suggest you simply don't. Unless you know where to look.
