On the whole “does Kaiba die / stay or get stuck in the afterlife?” thing
I never thought Kaiba doesn't get back from the ending of DSoD. Yeah, I know there was the ~untested~ tech that was mentioned but honestly it seemed more like a line thrown in for possible sequel bait or just for the sake of open-endedness/vauge storytelling style a la many Japanese story telling (re: my essay on that).
And from a character point, no, I don't think there's any way in hell that Seto would gamble the chances of permanently orphaning Mokuba again. No matter how much tunnel vision he got for his goal (and no matter how grieved he was. And I hate it that people spin it to pit the headcanoned romantic love between him and Atem against his canonical love of Mokuba and it's the possible and unconfirmed romo love that “wins”.
[I am NOT trying to bash on pride here, I actually quite enjoy that ship when work is put into it and all the nuance and complexity isn't sucked out of it for quick hurt/comfort or just turned into a glorified/romanticized toxic love horny fest]. But even if it was confirmed canon, stop pitting romo love against platonic love and have one come out as the "winner" mmkay? There's already enough damaging amatonormativity ingrained in society ok thanks.
Grief makes you do wild things, sure and everyone reacts to grief differently. But Seto has never been a gambler and I don't think after all the character development he's been though he would risk his relationship with Mokuba like that (this is taking consideration of how technically this is the manga continuity Kaiba who has done Death T and all that and messed up pretty bad with Mokuba before). I just don't think he'd run off to see/challenge/get closure from Atem and ditch his precious little brother behind with great odds that he would never see him again. Not after all the times he’s put his life on the line to protect Mokuba.
I've always thought he comes back. It just may have a cost and may not be a straight shot there and back. I think the ~untested~ tech means he doesn't know how long it will take or how much stress it puts on the user, a la the purple particles eating away at Kaiba in the post credit scene that seem to be threatening to send him back to his own dimension (again DIMENSION it's not a time machine). No, I don't think it's anything crazy like YEARS pass before he gets back. I think a couple of weeks at most. And no, I don't think Mokuba was crying and begging Seto to not have this goal in the first place. Mokuba is quite gung-ho the entire movie about getting and defending the puzzle. Hell, he headbutts Diva off the puzzle container when Mokuba had no way to know if he'd land safely or just die. He interrogates Diva to try and get the puzzle piece. He closes up the shop for Yugi and says a happy hi before the tournament. That seems far from someone who wants Seto to just let it go.
This is a bit more on the speculation side for canon hates digging into Mokuba’s feelings much sadly, but I think Mokuba has his own sense of unfinished business with Atem as well which plays a part in his motivation to help this goal. Atem is also someone he had bonded with on some level. He and Yugi were one of the first people to help him, ever, that wasn't Seto. They aided him in Duelist Kingdom. Then again in the Legendary Heroes arc when he had no one else to turn too. He seemed so...surprised in both cases. Clearly someone who's not used to being able to ask for help, much like Seto.
But now this person is gone. One of the few people Mokuba felt he could go to if he had a problem or needed to ask for help. I can easily see Mokuba thinking, “how come he cared enough to help me all those times but not say goodbye?” (though again, we don’t know exactly what happened there, if the Kaiba brothers were unable to contact or of the main crew literally just didn’t call them up, so I’m in no way trying to assign blame here, but I could see how this is how Mokuba would see it and feel about it).
I think Mokuba misses him too, or at the very least misses him as someone he can depend on and place his trust in. The following may be a bit of a stretch on evidence for I don't know who writes the lines for Duel Links, but if you challenge Yami Yugi as DSOD Mokuba and win, his expression is sad, saying, “You thought you could run from Seto without one last Duel?" I think Mokuba certainly sees the departure hurt Seto, but I also think it hurt him. I think he’s also trying to say, ‘You thought you could run from us without saying bye?’
So no, I don't think Kaiba runs off to Atem's afterlife forever for whatever reason ship or no ship and ditches everyone and everything (don’t forget KC and Kaibaland, his life’s dream pride and joy) behind in the living dimension. I don't think he fails to get back. While the prospect of something going wrong or the tech failing is an immensely interesting fic/AU/etc idea to play around with or such because of the added mysteriousness (or because it's edgy and dark or whatnot I feel like that’s how the theory Kaiba dies really gained it’s first traction lol) I don't think that's what happened. I think it may take some more time than expected, perhaps have some magical cost that the soft magic system didn't really specify (such as having a set number of uses or something until whatever remnant power in the cube runs out, be physically straining, etc.)
But I will never believe Seto gambled the chance of possibly orphaning Mokuba. That's my interpretation.
____
[Note: I’m not here to argue, of course you can have a different headcanon or reading of the events to DSoD, these are just my thoughts, with the textual evidence to back up my thought process.]

The question is brought up at Sunday brunch.
Caroline isn’t as appalled about the Question as much as she is the fact that she has turned into the sort of person who looks forward to Sunday brunch.
Damon sort of snorts, “Blondie, you have always been—“
The table shudders, and suddenly Damon’s wincing, face purple, as Klaus smiles placidly beside him. “Imagine that, sweetheart.”
“Cream puffs! And the Belgian waffles, have you tried the Belgian waffles?” Caroline asks, manically replenishing everyone’s faces.
“I would love some more,” Stefan says after a beat. His plate already has four on them. Klaus finishes off his own plate and only smiles when Caroline flicks another one into it.
Enzo clears his throat. He doesn’t know why he’s been invited, and shifts in his seat. He doesn’t even know why he’d come, but Caroline hadn’t responded to any of his emails, angry knocks, or even letters he’d had to disguise as fanmail to get her to read. All he knows is that he’d finally ran into her in the hall, and she’d all but shoved him inside.
“Right,” Enzo says, eyeing everyone at the table. “So my question remains: will the lease for your apartment be kept under your name, or will it be transferred to— ”
“Has anyone tried the Orange Blossom honey?” Caroline upends half the jar onto Kol’s stack.
“—Will it be transferred to—,” Enzo tries again—
There’s a ding of the oven.
 “The pie’s ready!”
“There’s pie?” Kol enthuses, his mouth full. “What filling?”
“Of course, Caroline is ever the hostess,” Klaus says adoringly.
 “Apple and raspberry—”
“—please, Gorgeous, the paperwork on this took me half the night—” Enzo pleads.
“—I’ve tasted the custard cream that goes with the pie this morning, and it was absolutely divine—”
“Gag!” Rebekah yells from across the balcony, because of course Klaus would make his adoration of Caroline vocal, and loud at that.
“Don’t be rude!” Klaus volleys back.
This is Damon’s time—he’s heard the not-so-rumours that Klaus can get Camille to put anything he wants in the script, and he so desperately wants to die this season, but maybe in a car crash, or something. Off screen, so he doesn’t have to show up to work, thanks. His only in is probably with Klaus, and he’d shared this secret with Stefan, who got so offended that Damon had managed to scheme over his head that he’d taken Stefan and stayed away the entire weekend.
And so Damon yells, vehemently: “Shut your mouth, rude-ass bitch!”
Everyone stops their attempt at overlapping conversations and stares.
Damon sighs and backtracks. “All right, I may have gotten too method.”
Klaus narrows his eyes, all sweet pretence gone, ready to go to war for his sister. “Method for what?”
“I want to die,” Damon points out.
“That can be arranged,” Klaus says, whipping out his phone.
“On our show!” Damon cries exasperatedly. “I don’t think I have to point this out every time, Klaus. We know what your tattoo means.”
“Oh,” Klaus says, a bit put out. “Then that’s a bit more complicated, mate.”
“What does Klaus’ tattoo mean?” Enzo asks, finally distracted from technical lease talk, and Caroline takes her cue to scurry out of the room and into the kitchen.
She barely hears Kol snickering about how, before Klaus decided to become an actor, he’d made his living as the king of the underbelly of the neighbouring city.
“Right,” Enzo nods. “So I’ll put the lease down in your name, then?”
“Let me check with Caroline,” Klaus replies, the peaceful smile sliding back onto his face, and turns in his chair. “Sweetheart?”
There’s no answer, because Caroline’s not in the kitchen anymore.
 .
 .
Bonnie is a surprise fan favourite, and she gets promoted to series regular.
Maybe it’s because she’d hired someone to ghost-tweet her fans, and they like the look of her in her usual thigh high boots, voluminous skirts, and riding crop ensemble on the show. Season five had gotten weirdly anachronistic.
She goes into trailer in her full Regency-era gown and pink Chuck Norris sneakers to find that Caroline has already started on the wine.
“Well?” she prompts, taking the glass Caroline passes her.
“I guess we’re moving in together,” Caroline says.
 They clink glasses.
 .
 .
The first night isn’t… weird. Everyone had helped Klaus move into Caroline’s space (which just meant an armful of Henleys and a stack of books, since he’d left everything else next door. Whilst he was balancing all of that, everyone helps themselves to the cheese platter).
A round of drinks leads to a round of drunk Monopoly, and unsurprisingly Caroline sweeps the board after she manages to land an unsuspecting strip while everyone else guns for the most expensive squares. That leads to charades, which leads to an argument, which leads to more drinks to placate the tension.
“I’m drunk,” Elena gasps, because she never is. Everyone else agrees that they, too, are inebriated.
Caroline brews some of the fancy loose-leaf tea she’d stolen from Klaus’ kitchen cabinets as the night dwindles down.
When the last guest (Damon, still drunk) leaves with his date (Bonnie, winking), Klaus helps her with the washing up. He presses a kiss to her forehead as he dries the plates and she ducks under his arm to put away the cutlery when he arranges the glasses back onto the rack above the sink.
“Bed?” he suggests when they finish an episode of Bojack Horseman, finishing the last of the crackers between them.
“Sure,” she says lightly. It’s just like every other night, then, except there’s something unspoken in the air about the new arrangement.
Unspoken because Caroline, queen of not talking about things, had all but managed to dodge all of Klaus’ attempts to talk about things.
He’d resorted to just move himself in until Caroline suddenly feels like he doesn’t want him there – he might’ve left some shoes and his favourite Henley behind. Caroline notices.
They brush their teeth silently, Caroline bumping his hip when she wants to gargle.
They practice some lines back and forth, the script illuminated by the twin lamps on her twin bedside tables. Everything in her room came in a set of twins; Caroline likes the symmetry of the notion. Klaus likes to joke that it’s a sign that some day, she’ll probably have twins too. He doesn’t add that he hopes they’ll be his to father.
  .
.
Klaus has been living with her, truly living with her, for approximately three weeks now. It’s nice to say “See you at home” instead of “See you later”, even though for a while, later had come to mean home anyway.
They fall into a habit that doesn’t take time to even form: to-do lists that he helps stick onto her board, packed cheesy lunches from her favourite food truck, and nights of chess on the cramped little balcony.
Sure, Kol still traipses in through the window whenever he feels like it, and they still gather at Elena’s for dinner, and Stefan still meets them at the balcony for a quick post-dinner smoke, but at night it’s just her and Klaus and their new Queen-sized mattress that Klaus had convinced her to buy, trading in from her old but dutiful King-sized one.
“I like to be closer to you when we sleep,” he whispers into her hair.
“We might as well have bought a super-single then,” she laughs.
 “Or a single.”
“You’d have to sleep practically on top of me.”
“Nowhere else I’d rather be,” he promises her, and goads her into a kiss.
It’s a light one, feather soft, because whilst the days of heat and yearning had passed, he’d found that he enjoyed the more intimate moments with her. When she’s in her used kaftan and he’s just in sweats, and he can feel every curve of her against his side.
Caroline falls asleep with her forehead pressed against his shoulder, and he doesn’t move all night for fear of waking her up.
  .
 .
And still they don’t talk about it.
Caroline’s not bothered, per se, but she’d bothered by the fact that Klaus isn’t talking about it. If anything he’s mastered the art of talking himself out of any situation, and talking her into a frenzy.
He’s all but shut up, like Stefan the Cat’s got his tongue.
Like he’s happy at playing houses with her.
 Like he’s happy.
 Well – she’s happy too.
Klaus passes her the maple syrup when she asks, and he smiles to her so sweetly it makes everything at the table taste quite bland.

I’m almost finished with rewatching all episodes of seasons 1, 2 & 3 of the tribe. So I decided it’s time for a personalized summary (under the cut). I’ll be focusing on favourite storylines, favourite characters and ships... and things that surprised me while rewatching.
So, to give you a heads-up season 1 and season 3 are far better than season 2. And, to my own surprise, it’s not just the lack of Amber that’s a problem in season 2. Season 2 is all over the place. The Mallrats don’t seem like an actual family anymore, the storylines are told throughout the city rather than mainly focusing on the things that happen within the mall, some members of the Mallrats don’t even interact with each other. I suppose, actually, that this atmosphere of a broken, dysfunctional family (and not in a good way) is precisely what the writers were aiming for though considering the turnout of season 2, which, btw, I didn’t even remember like this but it’s BREATHTAKING. Definitely one of my favourite scenes in the entire show, which was a huge surprise to me because I just couldn’t remember anything that was positive about season 2. But besides the season 2 finale, there was actually more. The attempted rescue of Trudy - I did remember this, it was a picture of the show that has been stuck with me forever and watching it again reminded me how incredible that scene was. My favourite thing about season 2 of The Tribe as a child was... who would have thought, Ellie. And she still is. She’s less biased than most people in there and looks at things with morality and rationality alike, but she always takes different perspectives. One of my 3 top characters in season 2, which leads to the surprises season 2 had in store for me: Alice and Tai-San. Honestly, I don’t remember loving Tai-San nor Alice as a child very much. I changed my point of view on them completely. Tai-San in season 1 might not be my fave, not even close, but starting with season 2, Tai-San actually becomes awesome. Her quotes were always great, but in season 2, her actions actually have consequences and she makes valid points when verbally fighting her own tribe members. I guess it also makes it easy to side with her because she constantly fights Danni, but well, that’s just a personal preference. The friendship of Alice and Tai-San is another of my fave things about this show, and I didn’t even remember it. They’re so different and yet have such a nice understanding for each other that their argument over Lex really hurt to see. However, like all good f/f friendships... a guy isn’t worth giving up a friendship about, which these two eventually prove. Therefore, Alice and Tai-San were my favourite surprise about my rewatch.
But enough of season 2, let’s talk season 1. Season 1 is great. While the first few episodes are slow-moving, by the time you get to episode 10, you just wanna keep watching and watching and watching. I don’t know exactly what it is - the drama, the characters, the fact that you basically only ever follow the events in the mall and barely anything outside of it... I don’t know, but it’s great. What I don’t understand is the hatred that some of these characters have to endure in the comment sections. This specifically goes out for Salene and Trudy. I mean, yeah, it’s not like this is the only season they’re hated on, but I feel like this season is the most constant when it comes to hatred towards both characters. Honestly, I love them. Do they annoy me sometimes? Absolutely. But basically all of their behaviour and actions are explained - post-natal depression, an eating disorder, or the simple fear of being alone (btw, all very well-developed storylines and well-explained for children); all of it is understandable if one puts themselves into their shoes for a moment. I do feel extremely bad about what happens to Ryan and Salene in season 2+3 because they deserved better but... I cannot hate Salene for it. Salene obviously has a lot of problems with herself, which she must figure out first before she can accept someone by her side who clearly accepted her more than she ever did herself. This leads us to Ryan. Ryan... God, Ryan. Ryan deserved better and I’ll forever cry about him. His character development from the guy who blindly follows Lex to the pure, freedom-loving, rebellious, kind guy who just wants to live in peace with his Mallrats is... tragic if you consider what happens to him. Never again will I forget the look on his face when he realizes that Salene is telling him he cannot see his child. So to sum this up: Salene and Trudy deserve more love by the fandom; Ryan deserved more love by the writers. So did Patsy, btw. Has anyone ever seen a child character suffer that much?
Now... what did surprise me in my rewatch? The amount of characters I actually like or even love. Actually, there’s barely anyone I don’t love. I mean, when it comes to character depth, this show is one of the most well-written ones because the characters are not just one thing or another. They’re multi-faceted, multi-layered and you can understand most of their reasonings even when you don’t agree with all of their choices. And by “most” I mean there are exceptions. Some things you aren’t supposed to understand - you’re supposed to judge it negatively. I suppose, Lex in season 1 often falls into that category. However, it’s difficult to hate him afterwards, isn’t it?! His relationship with Tai-San is nice to watch, his love-hate relationship with Bray is entertaining, his parenting with KC is... questionable but all the more fun, his devotion to Zandra even after her death is beautiful, his friendship to Ryan is interesting, his friendship to people like Alice, Ebony or Amber is just wonderfully fun and... unlikely. So, who do I hate in my rewatch so far? There’s just three names coming to my mind and I’d like to make a difference here. I hate the Guardian. Like everyone who watches this show should. However, he’s an interesting, entertaining character to watch and he’s not someone I wish had never been in the show. The other two characters I really, really, really dislike... they’re this category of characters I wish had never been on my screen: Ned and Danni. While I do see that Danni was just this poor substitute for Amber, but was incapable of making up for Amber, I just don’t see the point in Ned. Maybe the show wanted someone to kill off none of the viewers would mourn. I certainly couldn’t. I was actually happy when Moz turned around his body and his dead eyes were staring into the sky. Kind of made me like the Guardian to 1%. #SorryNotSorry. However, Danni is a more interesting case here to discuss because there’s two things that went wrong with her character. The first thing that went wrong is the fact that she was definitely too much like Amber but she just WASN’T Amber. Also, as you may or may not have noticed... I’m a Bray/Amber fan. And I do admit, I might be biased. Then again, I love Pride. Like I looove him so far. I didn’t when I was a child, but I do now and I’m happy to. Sooo, the fact that I dislike Danni must be more than just me loving Amber/Bray. But well, still, viewers don’t like having to get over their favourite characters with characters who are basically like them but aren’t them. And the second thing that went very wrong with Danni’s character was the casting choice. The actress just was really, really bad.
Which actually leads me to some noteworthy comment about the acting on this show: I was positively surprised how good it actually is. Like, duh, not Oscar-worthy. But I could have sworn it’s as bad as the Power Rangers series or teenage-driven shows like The Next Step. I suppose, that actually has something to do with the fact that I would watch the German dubbing as a child rather than the actual English versions. Now that I’m a grown-up, I’m watching the English versions ofc. And it actually isn’t bad acting. It’s better than most of the acting that I see on The 100. There are a few who stand out for being very good compared to the others and there are a few who stand out for being quite horrible compared to the rest - the actress of Danni falls into the latter category. But Dwayne Cameron, Beth Allen, Caleb Ross, Meryl Cassie and Michelle Ang actually make great leads. And there’s a couple more actors and actresses who are really not that bad. I also like to give this show credit for the fact that they mostly actually cast children and teenagers - most other children- and teenage-driven shows are incapable of doing that.
I don’t know what to say about season 3 of this show other than pointing out that it’s just well done. I love how it starts out with the rebels not being in contact with their Mallrats who have been enjailed in the mall by the Chosen. I like the Chosen storyline, I also love how it sometimes drags religion in general... it’s nice to watch. On the other hand, watching the rebels in the form of Lex, Ebony and Bray is just entertaining and fastmoving, which makes up most of season 3 anyway and goes by fast. The development of Ebony’s reign over the city is a storyline that starts pretty early on but takes up more and more screentime with every episode of season 3. She’s a great character who has always moved the plot forward and you just know that this will go very, very wrong for Bray and Amber. She’s always been established as an energetic, mesmerizing, charismatic leader who fears no means to get to her goal - season 1, 2, 3... Bray should have listened to Amber and Lex. They warned him. The only thing I dislike about season 3 is the romantic development between Alice and Ned. Then again, I really love Alice and I really hate Ned, so it’s understandable. Furthermore, unlike most of the fandom, I’m not a huuuuge Jack fan. I mean... he’s fine, but he never will be my favorite character, which is why I didn’t mind that he was gone for quite some time. I have to admit that I liked him a lot more in season 1 because he was mostly shown spending time with Dal there - and I should mention, Dal is one of my absolute faves. In season 2, Jack mostly behaves like a jerk towards Dal, which made him lose points with me. Tbh, I’d also rather ship Ellie with Dal than with Jack... but mostly still... Dal with Jack. And Ellie with Luke... or did anyone else get gay vibes from Ellie and Ebony? Because I did. Basically, I ship a lot of things on this show. Ah, right, another thing I should mention... most heartbreaking moments: Dal’s death and Ryan finding out he won’t get to see his child. Also... peak acting on this show of Beth Allen and Ryan Runciman there. Anything else... ah yes... surprises... KC. I love KC. I don’t remember loving him that much, he’s fine in season 1, he’s better in season 2, but I just LOVE LOVE LOVE him in season 3. Barely makes up for the loss of Dal, but I love KC.
Soooooo... let’s summarize obvious things. After 3 seasons... - Top 3 female characters: Amber, Tai-San, Ellie. (special mentions to Alice and Ebony... and also, Trudy and the kids and... really, I love everyone) - Top 3 male characters: Bray, Dal, KC. (special mentions to Ryan, Pride... did I mention I love everyone?) - Characters who deserved better by the writers: Ryan, Patsy, KC, Bray, Zandra. - Characters who deserve better by the fandom: Trudy, Salene, Bray,  - Favorite canon ships: Bray/Amber, forever and always. I also really like Tai-San/Lex as well as I like Lex/Alice. But we all know the best option here is Alice/Tai-San. I really am warming up to Pride/May right now... and I will always love Salene/May. I also don’t understand why the show didn’t go with Trudy/Salene when they were RIGHT THERE AND PERFECT. Istg, Ebony and Ellie are also a thing. But well... the child in me could watch an entire show on Bray/Amber... and I guess... grown-up me isn’t that different ;)

Am so in the mood for some fics where John helps Sherlock through detox/cravings/danger nights, anytime throughout the series. Bonus points for Sherlock being scared John will be mad at him or turn away, but John being supportive and understanding!!
anonymous  asked: Do you know of any Sherlock fics that include self harm? Thanks
Hi Guys!!
Since these are… SORT OF related, I’m putting them together! I don’t have many re: self-harm, so I thought I would add all the drug use, poisoning and the like fics together as well. They’re for both John and Sherlock, so I hope that’s alright! Hope these suffice!!
SELF-HARM

Self Harm Fics
Self Harm – Part 2
John is drinking too much – Alcoholism
Shut Up and Sleep by Cumberbatch Critter (T, 1,257 w. || Hurt/Comfort, Friendship) – Sherlock has a knack for hurting himself, although not entirely on purpose. John is a doctor, and it’s a good thing he’s there.
Needles by Kryptaria (M, 5,194 w. || Hurt / Comfort, Friendship, Needles, Referenced/Implied Drug Use, Doctor John) – At the end of January, 2010, John and Sherlock move to 221-B Baker Street. By mid-February, John takes up his role not only as Sherlock’s guardian and helper, but also his doctor. As the months pass, they grow closer and the trust between them deepens, until Sherlock puts it to the ultimate test.
I’m Pretty Sure This Changes Shit by cwb (E, 7,672 w. || Fluff, Cudding, Doctor/Patient, Accidents, Pining Sherlock, Blow Jobs, Oral / Anal, BAMF John, Minor Injuries, Dev. Rel.) – Sherlock finds increasingly ridiculous ways to get John to patch him up after hurting himself.

In a bid to reconnect with John, he tries to infect himself with a “harmless” virus. Neither of them is prepared for the emotional fallout that results.

Bleed Me Out by antietamfalls (E, 87,987 w. || Vampire AU || Bonding, Vampire Sherlock, Fluff & Angst, H/C, John Whump, Magical Realism) – John isn’t exactly surprised to discover that Sherlock isn’t human. His vampirism doesn’t pose a problem, even when their relationship gradually grows into something more. That is, until a deadly revelation about John’s blood sends their lives spinning dangerously out of control.
Maintenance and Repair by patternofdefiance (E, 106,650 w. || FutureAU, Augmentation || Augmented John, Depression, Body Modification, Slow Burn, Worldbuilding, Sci-Fi, Self-Care, Body Dysmorphia) – John wants to explain the rush of sensation and data, which is just another form of sensation (or is it the other way around?). John wants to say:Augmentation circuits report temperature, pressure, various forms of quantitative input. Sudden changes are reported as pain, since sudden changes are dangerous, and pain is the quickest way to encourage reflexive extraction. But all John can manage is, “Nng.” Because this sudden touch is not reporting as pain. Part 2 of STATIC
between each beat are words unsaid by darcylindbergh, hudders-and-hiddles (T, 107,998 w. || Epistolary, Slow Burn, Friends to Lovers, Angst, Happy Ending) – On their wedding night, John and Sherlock gift each other with the things they each said when the other could not hear, the things they each put down where the other could not see: a collection of writings that illustrate the way their love for one another has grown over the years. But then he discovers a lamp and finds himself in the dangerous riptide of an enigmatic man whose very existence is unbelievable, murder charges against his sister, and the growing pains of feeling alive once more.
Breakable by MissDavis (E, 117,627 w. || Established, Fluff/Angst, Depression, Paralysis, Happy-ish Ending) – After John is seriously injured, Sherlock struggles to figure out how to help him, keep himself sane, and maybe, just maybe, get their life back to the way it’s supposed to be. Unkissed Series by 221b_hound (T to E, 184,168 w. across 46 works || Established Relationship, Ace Sherlock) – Sherlock returned from the dead a year ago. John returned to Baker Street six months ago. They’ve been in a couple since then. or at least, not NOT a couple. For two smart men, they sure can be dumb. The Gilded Cage by BeautifulFiction (E, 326,887 w. || Omegaverse || Omega Sherlock / Alpha John, Friends to Lovers, Dub Con, Reproductive Rights) – In a world where Omegas are the property of the elite Alphas, locked away and treasured by those wealthy enough to buy them, John never questioned his flatmate’s secondary gender. Sherlock Holmes was an Alpha through-and through. Wasn’t he? A chance discovery turns the world on its head, and John is left grappling to come to terms with Sherlock’s past as events conspire to threaten their future.
DANGER NIGHTS
Treasure Hunt by ThessalyMc (K, 2,288 w. || ASiB Missing Scene, Danger Nights, Friendship / Family, Seek and Find Game, Smoking) – Mycroft called them ‘danger nights’ because he feared Sherlock’s mood might drive him back to drugs. John knows better. Doesn’t stop him tearing apart the flat he knows is clean, though. He’s not looking for drugs, though. He’s setting up a distraction.
Those Days by StillWaters1 (T, 2,663 w. || Friendship, Hurt/Comfort, PTSD / Sensory Attacks, Caring Sherlock) – If Sherlock had danger nights, then these were John’s danger days.

Hmm…?” He takes a deep breath, waits, lets it out again. “Look at me.” There’s no denying him when he takes this tone. “Why did you kill him? Hmm…? For her? After…” A muscle twitches in the corner of John’s eye, and he clamps his jaw down tightly, swallows and sniffs a little before continuing. “For her? After everything she’s done?” “For you.” Before he can even stop himself. Just like that.
Coming Full Circle by KCS (K+, 2,358 w. || Alternate TGG, Friendship, Drama, Violence/Death References, Drugging/Poisoning, Kidnapping, BAMF John, Moriarty POV, Introspection) – Moriarty had John for almost six hours between his abduction and the showdown at the pool - more than enough time to implement a Plan B for his escape should Sherlock call his bluff with the fake bomb vest.

Bolt Holes by PostcardsfromTheoryland (T, 4,177 w. || H/C, Angst, Drug Mentions, Pining Sherlock) – John asked, one evening, if Sherlock liked her. To which he grudgingly had to say yes, and John said he was glad. Because John was going to propose to her.
Experiment by Gwen’s Blue Box (K+, 4,222 w. || Non-Con Drugging, Hurt Comfort, Friendship) – Of course John has always known about his flatmate’s irregular sleeping habits, especially when they’re on a case. This time, however, the case is taking longer and longer, and soon John starts to worry. But there’s not much he can do, is there? Because drugging Sherlock isn’t an option. Not yet, maybe, but will it be soon? {{CW: John drugs Sherlock without his consent}}

The Dying Detective Remix by SailorChibi (K, 6,563 w. || Friendship & Family) – No one hates admitting illness or wounds more than Sherlock… perhaps that’s why no one believes him when he actually gets sick. The dim light of the moon barely allowed Sherlock to see the glassy terror in John’s eyes and the sweat that glistened off his forehead. His nose was bleeding again, blood dripping in a slow stream from his right nostril. They were both gasping for air, John’s eyes locked on Sherlock’s. There was no recognition there, just wild animal fear. Time stood still for an eternal few seconds, and Sherlock took a shaky breath. “John—”Spell broken, John spun and bolted back into the woods. Still heaving for air, Sherlock took off after him.  {{HAVEN’T READ THIS FIC YET, READ AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION}}

It Ain't Nothing but a Family Thing: Arrow 7x17 Review (Inheritance)
“Inheritance” is equal parts necessary exposition and filler episode. Not quite sure how the writers accomplished that, but they did.
Tumblr media
Let’s dig in…
Emiko and Oliver
Soooo… here’s the problem guys. I don’t really care about Emiko. The whole time I’m watching this plot line unfold I am thinking, “Couldn’t Thea have gone all evil?”
Tumblr media
Take a pause and give that a good think. How awesome would it have been for Thea to take a deep dive down the evil hole? It would have been amazing, which is why I loudly demanded it for the six years Willa Holland was on the show.
Tumblr media
Watching Oliver try to pull Thea away from the Ninth Circle would have been a good time.
Tumblr media
Not so much with Replacement Thea. The problem is I just met Emiko this season. I understand that’s typically the case when it comes to Arrow villains, but I’m supposed to bond with her character as Oliver’s sister and then be horrified when she turns out to be a villain.
Tumblr media
Arrow even tried to fast track my bonding by making Emiko into Oliver 2.0.  I’m not really seeing the individualism except for evil. Every week the writers were hanging a sign out that said, “SEE? SHE’S JUST LIKE OLIVER!” by mimicking previous OG Oliver Queen scenes. Just in case you missed any of the visual cues or copied verbatim scenes, the other characters are here to verbally proclaim Emiko is just like her brother.
Tumblr media
Eh… keep it. Unfortunately, none of this has accomplished Arrow’s intended goal which is for me to give a crap about Emiko.
Tumblr media
It should be noted that when Arrow does the “SEE? SHE’S JUST LIKE OLIVER” with Mia or “SEE? HE’S JUST LIKE FELICITY!” with William (and vice versus) I love it. Yes, I am aware this is a double standard. Maybe it’s because the kids have more personality than cardboard. Sorry Emiko. Facts are facts. Maybe it’s because they are Olicity’s kids and therefore my investment is virtually guaranteed. I don’t know. I don’t care. It’s Season 7 and I’m gonna do me.
Tumblr media
The only thing keeping me mildly entertained with Emiko is that she is evil. I’m not really interested in watching her be redeemed either. I know I know. The season theme is redemption, but come on! Someone has to burn in the fires of Hades for all eternity. It doesn’t mean anything if every character is redeemed.
Tumblr media
Typically, I am down for Robert Queen flashbacks whenever possible, but in order to make this storyline work they had to turn Oliver’s father into a tremendous pile of stinking douchebag. Robert was always kind of a douchebag what with the whole killing a man by accident, lying about it and then getting embroiled in Merlyn’s plot to destroy half the city because of his guilt.
Tumblr media
But he had gravitas. The class of an elder statesman. Maybe it’s the silver hair and grumbly grandpa voice I pray Oliver Queen will have some day. Maybe it’s because he put a bullet in his head to save his son. Annnnd… also murdered someone else in the process. Alright. Robert was a douchebag, but he was a mildly noble douchebag and I love him okay? I DON’T KNOW WHY!
Tumblr media
But the Robert Queen in “Inheritance” is a misogynistic, slimy, cheating, coward who kicks his mistress and love child out of the swanky apartment he was putting them up at and tells his daughter, “Life isn’t fair. We don’t always get what we want.” Wow.
Tumblr media
That’s a great way to create a villain, Robert. Watch Batman or Star Wars or ANY HERO STORY EVER and learn fool.
Tumblr media
Emiko worked hard to get her father’s approval or acknowledgement of her existence to the world. She wanted to run Queen Consolidated, but nope that’s a man’s job sweetie. Oliver Queen and his penis, which was whoring its way through Starling City at the time, are destined for CEO.  Emiko takes Robert’s misogyny in stride and simply asks him to back a company of her own, but he balks at that too. This is the last straw in a very long line of straws.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, Emiko doesn’t tell her father where to stick it and cut off all contact. No, that would be reasonable. Instead, she decides to go super villain on him. She impresses Dante after stealing from him and he agrees to train her. Emiko vacillates between being a Queen and joining the Ninth Circle for years, but the final brush off from Robert is the tipping point. She decides Dante is right and the Ninth Circle is her real family.
Tumblr media
Oliver follows Emiko after Bl*ck S*ren warns she may not be playing for the home team and he sees her with Dante. Oliver confronts Emiko and she sings some song and dance about not knowing who the real Dante was when she signed up with him. Now she’s trapped. It works. Oliver buys it hook line and sinker, because blindly ignoring blatant warning signs is what he does when it comes to the Queen family.
Tumblr media
He smartens up once he figures out Emiko sabotaged Felicity’s Archer program to protect Dante’s location. DO NOT MESS WITH THE WIFEY’S TOYS.
Tumblr media
Oliver and Emiko face off in a fight that’s a lot about her ponytail. It had a life of its own.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sadly, this is one of the worst fights I’ve seen in Arrow’s history. I really hope Sea Shimooka isn’t taking acting tips from KC, because it sure looks like it.
Tumblr media
WHO IS SHE LOOKING AT? I’m not putting all the blame at her feet. Stephen upped his cheese factor about ten notches too. The whole scene felt awkward, choppy and forced.
Tumblr media
Source: smoakmonster
Diggle sits Oliver down for a much needed Yoda talk. John warns him not to be so invested in Emiko’s redemption that he ignores the threat she poses. Ah yes, the evil sibling plot line also happened in Season 4 with Diggle and Andy.
Tumblr media
Yeesh, alright it’s time for this show to end. John’s need to save his brother ultimately cost L*urel her life and he doesn’t want Oliver to make the same mistake.
Tumblr media
It’s time you left yourself off the hook on that one, Diggle.
Tumblr media
It was all win from where I sat, so stop being so hard on yourself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
UGH.  I tell the man to be Jesus and then he starts acting like Jesus!!! The nerve. Oliver, being a fully realized superhero doesn’t mean you save EVERYONE. Jesus didn’t save every – never mind. The point is, after seven seasons, now the pine tree listens to me? He could’ve popped the question in Season 3 and I’d be on my way to a second set of triplets, but nooooo.
Tumblr media
Oliver wants to redeem Emiko because then it means he’s redeemed the family in some way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Why isn’t enough that you’ve redeemed yourself Oliver? You’re a Queen. You count. Yes, you were a massive douchebag once upon a time, but you stopped sleeping with Lance sisters (thank God), fell in love with sunshine, and embraced monogamy & commitment like the squishy teddy bear with abs we always knew you were. You also fight for the city, save lives, and cook your pregnant wife yummy veggies to munch on. You’re evolved dude. Cut yourself a break. And Thea isn’t exactly the Mistress of Satan. She’s off saving the world too. Two out of three ain’t bad.
Tumblr media
This whole “Right my wrongs” needs clarification. First it was the list, but it morphed into saving the Glades. Then Tommy died and things kind of snowballed. So, how many wrongs are we talking Bobby? Let’s get specific. We’ve only got 15 episodes left. Did you sell Iran nuclear weapons? Use Moira’s toothbrush and not tell her? Steal candy from babies? Are there a dozen more Robert Queen kiddos intent on world destruction?
Tumblr media
Time is a wasting. I have a spin off coming and it needs to not be about your bullshit man.
Tumblr media
Team Arrow ultimately foils Emiko’s plan. Well… kind of. They miss one drone, but no worries! It was just a demonstration. They’re worried about the next time, when it’s not a demonstration, but I was more focused on the few extra tidbits delivered in the final moments of the episode
Not only does Emiko choose the Ninth Circle, she is their leader.
Tumblr media
She is also targeting the Archer program, which means nothing good for Oliver, Felicity and their children. Despite, my frustrations with Emiko’s character I am glad they are tying this all back to Robert and the Queens. Family is where this story began and it’s where it should end.
Dante gave Emiko a gift when she was struggling between being a Queen or joining the Ninth Circle. It was the most hilariously unrealistic looking invoice from Merlyn Global, but it showed the location of the bombs on the Queen’s Gambit. Emiko knew about Merlyn’s plan and she could have saved her father’s life if she simply passed on the information at their meeting. But he rejected her once more, so Emiko sent Robert to his death and unknowingly condemned her brother to five years of hell. Damn.
Tumblr media
What Emiko doesn’t realize is that by keeping quiet about the bombs on the Queen’s Gambit she helped set her brother on a path to become someone who can stop her. In the immortal words of Leo McGarry, “ "It ain't nothing but a family thing.”

Felicity Smoak
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Felicity wins Walter White.
Tumblr media
This is something many fans have been saying for years, including yours truly, so I am quite happy the writers agree.
Tumblr media
Felicity continues to slay at all three, but a key part to “having it all” is knowing when you need help. Felicity asks her friend Alena to join the company as CTO.  Look how excited this human rainbow is. She melts my heart.
Tumblr media
Source:  felicittysqueen
Unfortunately, I don’t really trust Alena. Yes, I know she’s helped Felicity in the past, but I still feel uneasy about her. Perhaps that distrust is unnecessary and her interactions with Felicity will continue to be adorable and on the up and up. But Archer is corrupted somehow in the future and I’m keeping an eye on Alena in present day.
Tumblr media
Concerns aside, I did have myself a petty little cackle. Technically speaking, Felicity had a built in CTO for Smoak Tech on Team Arrow – Curtis Holt. Instead, the writers ship him off to D.C. and bring in Alena who, shady or not, is far preferable to Curtis. I just didn’t think Beth would agree with me. She’s like friggin Santa Claus.
Tumblr media
The biggest issue I had with the spinal technology was it didn’t really connect to the Team Arrow storyline. A character feels isolated on their own show whenever that happens. My concern was Felicity’s great individual storyline was going to cut her off from the action.
Tumblr media
The genius of this season, and the retooling of Felicity’s company, is the writers have found a way to weave it in with the vigilante storyline. Smoak Tech no longer feels like an island they are placing Felicity on, but rather it permeates almost every facet of the show – both past and present. This means Felicity permeates every facet of the show.
Tumblr media
Last, but certainly not least, Felicity continues to be a bad ass wife as she manages more Queen family drama.  The man is an Adonis who cooks, but oy does he come with family baggage. At least, Oliver’s reaction to this type of drama is predictable and Felicity doesn’t miss a beat.
When he comes back from the field empty handed Felicity knows immediately how to make him smile.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Source: olicitygifs
She tells Oliver he’s hot. That’s it. That’s how Felicity cheers him up.
Tumblr media
He compartmentalizes and hyper focuses on stopping Emiko, but Felicity tells Oliver to take a beat and process.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Of course, Oliver ignores her and becomes frustrated with the team when they aren’t moving fast enough. So, Felicity tells him to cool it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He ignores her AGAIN, but at least we are blessed with this glorious response.

Where has this gif been for the last seven years? If Oliver is going to be a stubborn ass then at the very least his wife is going to drag him for it with some patented Felicity Smoak snark.
Tumblr media
I think Felicity and Diggle have a system for deciding who talks to Oliver. Maybe it depends on circumstance. Diggle seems like the obvious choice because he had an evil sibling too. Maybe they rock paper scissors. Whatever the system, it was Diggle talking down their boy this week.
We did, however, get some quality husband and wife crime fighting team work. YOUR OTP WOULD NEVER.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

After a long day of supporting her husband, incubating their child and stopping criminals, Felicity returns to the loft to work on Archer with Alena. And this was a light Felicity Smoak episode. Damn. Queen of DCTV is right.
Tumblr media
Sweet holy Moses, how are we going to do ten episodes without her?
Tumblr media
I love Oliver Queen. He is my favorite character, but I think we can all agree Felicity Smoak makes him infinitely more tolerable. Oliver can be stubborn, grumpy pine tree left to his own devices. Hopefully, he’s evolved enough that all of Felicity’s hard work doesn’t go down the tubes the moment they are separated. He is supposed to be Jesus now. I think Slabside is evidence it won’t, but ten episodes without Felicity Smoak feels like a daunting task. It feels like climbing a mountain...
Tumblr media
only to get stabbed in the chest and chucked off the edge once we reach the top.
Tumblr media
Bl*ck S*ren
BS decides to follow Emiko and gets spliced with an arrow because she sucks at covert ops.
Tumblr media
Source:  nyssaalghl
She goes to Olicity’s apartment to speak to Felicity about her Emiko suspicions, but unfortunately the wifey isn’t home. Bl*ck S*ren turns to leave when she realizes the only person available to discuss her suspicions with is Oliver. I believe there's 0% chance of L*urel falling in love with Oliver and 99.99% chance she's already in love with Felicity.
Tumblr media
Not to be outdone, Oliver offers to bandage up her bleeding wound. He takes out antibiotic and gauze and SETS. IT. ON. THE. KITCHEN. COUNTER.
Tumblr media
It’s a very large kitchen counter too, so it creates the wide berth these two require to stand being in a room together.
Tumblr media
 Source:  nyssaalghl
We’ve gone from main love interest to stay on your side of the room. I died.
Tumblr media
I don’t know how we got here family, but we’re here and it’s fabulous.
Tumblr media
The writers are more anti L*uriver than I am, which is an impressive level of hate - if I’m being honest.
Tumblr media
I need to put on a sweater whenever Stephen and KC film a scene because brr it’s cold!
Tumblr media
The L*uriver fans expecting sexy bandage time must have been deeply disappointed. Or at least the two fans left were deeply disappointed.
Tumblr media
Of course, Oliver doesn’t believe BS because duh. My dog could’ve called that one. He tells her to mind her own business and pretty much kicks her out the apartment. Obviously, L*urel is right about Emiko, but Oliver telling her to shove it never gets old under any circumstances.
Tumblr media
Then Dinah accuses her of murdering a witness
Tumblr media
Source:  nyssaalghl
and L&urel is righteously indignant.
Tumblr media
Of course, L*urel is right. It’s not like she has ever murdered before. Why on earth would anyone ever think that?
Tumblr media
Dinah even has the nerve to bring up her dead boyfriend again. She really needs to let this Vince thing go because L*urel played lawyer for the last seven months and helped get Oliver out of a jail. See? All better.
Tumblr media
BS is redeemed now, so Dinah really needs to stop bitching. Arrow is my life tutor, so following that same logic I’m going to murder a baby and then buy a puppy because it will even the cosmic balance.
Tumblr media
The best moment is when Emiko releases images of Savior of the World L*urel L*nce meeting with Ricardo Diaz.
Tumblr media
Source:  nyssaalghl
It’s going to be pretty tough for BS to keep up the pretense she is law abiding, justice yielding District Attorney L&urel L*nce when she’s hanging out with one of Star City’s most notorious criminals.  I take it back. Emiko is awesome.
Tumblr media
Of course, I’m not delusional enough to believe Arrow is going to give BS an arc that actually qualifies as redemptive. Helping Felicity was a good start, but it doesn’t wipe the slate clean for me. Not by a long shot. Neither does being a fake lawyer. I would like to see L*urel pay for her crimes the same way Oliver paid for his by going to PRISON, but I doubt the writers will give me that much Christmas. I am very curious to see how “Lost Canary” shakes out. That said, I have very little doubt BS will betray her one true love.
Tumblr media
Stray Thoughts
“Which doesn’t mean she’s bad.” I told you Olicity wouldn’t care Emiko killed Diaz. They brought the marshmallows to his bonfire party.
“On your own.” Stephen read that line super diva and it cracked me up.
Tumblr media
“Being a father is more than just blood.” I hate to agree with a villain but damn he’s right.
Tumblr media
Every time Felicity touches her stomach I happy clap. Source: olicitygifs
Tumblr media
L*urel’s shoulder pads have to be stopped. Just say no wardrobe department.
Tumblr media
Forcing me to go without this adorableness for an additional ten episodes is not oka. I’ll go through Felicity Smoak withdrawal which is hazardous.  Source: ebett
Does Emiko visiting her father’s grave make a damn bit of sense now that we know she played a role in his death? Nope. Didn’t think so.

I was asked recently: do you enjoy writing for ll as much as you do for Felicity? You write Felicity like you can hear her thoughts. But then you go and write ll’s character and you manage to keep her IN character without making her bitchy and without pulling her to bits. Do you like writing for her?
Beyond being hugely flattered – SO FLATTERED, MY GOODNESS – and mildly sceptical – I’ve never thought I was anything special in terms of writing ability but I do love keeping characters IN character whilst placing them in new situations – I can answer with complete confidence that, yes. I like writing for LL’s character.
I like knowing just how skewed her perception is. I enjoy writing that perception because in many ways, it’s incredibly indulgent. In reality, no one who wants to be loved and who wants a family should think like LL does. It’s a point of view that’s singular and therefore, interesting. But after writing for her, I truly don’t think the writers knew what to do with their creation, and she was a creation. Just because her name is LL doesn’t make her any less of a creation than Sara. Comic LL? Well, she’s married to a cop; ergo the name Lance. This cop is abusive. Her personality is also very different and she isn’t a lawyer. The writers tried very hard to make LL morally perfect but destroyed it when they realised she’d have to compromise said morals to love Oliver. So they gave her a set of standards that no one could reach and yet had her break them every time Oliver was mentioned. However instead of showing real guilt or shame or SOMETHING that would enable her some character progression, they replaced it wit superiority. It made her a selfish character who were supposed to believe is the opposite.
But you see, well written characters – characters with substance, who aren’t there for a plot purpose but as a defined personality on a show – can be selfless and still do selfish things. They can compromise their integrity and still be morally righteous. They can be good and yet see the virtue in violence.
I give thee Felicity Smoak.
Now KC did her own damage to LL in S1 – she was very determined to make her into something she wasn’t too fast because she clearly believed this show had been created to turn her into a mask wielding superhero who’s better than everyone. But the writers are the main problem – them and the exec’s at CW who threw an actress at the show because she had a contract with them. She was SO not right for the character, but they didn’t care. She’d starred in Supernatural so her name had merit.
(just a hypothetical: if Emily had been cast as LL, would she have possessed the skill to portray the character in a way that could make us like her? I think so, though the writers made this obscenely hard with their contradictory writing. Most would have a lot of difficulty. Still, I’m almost certain that if she HAD been, Oliver would have married the BC: a BC a foot shorter with pretty blue eyes… you know like in the comics *eye roll* Her COMIC BOOK fans ignore even the comic book details.)
ANYWAY!
It’s kind of fascinating really: I made sure to watch the episodes and ingest everything about the characters I write. I don’t always do this and it’s been a while so it’s time for a re-watch (any excuse really) but a few things became incredibly clear once I started. I have a few of Felicity’s habits: I talk to myself in tangents of weirdness and get flustered/blush super easily. I’m not a genius by any definition (mostly I'm a gigantic dumbass) but I wear glasses with my hair in a ponytail and I’m not generally the first person seen in a crowded room so to speak, plus I overthink/second guess everything I say. Like Oliver, I blame myself for everything and worry too much. I’m more solitary than most. I want to save everyone but have no idea how to. I love deeply.
I don’t love easily.
I’m not like Olicity. But when I write, I sort of become them. Or I attempt to. I feel my way through each scene and it becomes quite personal, which would explain the sentence breaks where I intermingle thought and movement with descriptions and speech.
Then I started writing for ll… now, I like to remain unbiased when I analyse a character. I don’t like ll. I don’t appreciate the way she was written in any season – I’m referring to E1 LL, E2 I’ll talk about later – nor did I enjoy KC’s horrific portrayal. It’s no secret, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be fair to her character.
I came up with three literary explanations of her character and this is one of them: the medium between the other two, from ll's point of view (please remember I am at work and therefore cannot write as well as I would like) -
She’s ordinary. Totally ordinary. A normal person who lives, works, eats, sleeps. We can empathise.
She’s part of a nuclear family and she knows her family loves her. She loves them. They’re not a perfect family but they are a good one.
She has an over exaggerated sense of how attractive and intelligent she is, exacerbated by how many people have told her that she’s smart and beautiful. She knows because she’s been told: she’s never questioned her looks or her intelligence and it’s the start of all the bad really. It was reinforced by becoming friends with the two richest kids in the city.
So she’s never had a reason to doubt herself. Not ever. There’s nothing in the world that ever could.
As for how this affects the story:
Through illogical and extremely unlikely circumstances – never explained for two reasons: it wasn’t important enough to the writers and they wrote themselves into many a corner with ll’s character as they tried to fit her into a universe that didn’t want to house their forced creation – she became good friends with Tommy Merlyn and Oliver Queen.
Oliver Queen makes her do the one thing she’s never done: doubt herself.
Surely she’s pretty enough for him to choose her. Smart enough. Good enough. Strong enough. Enough. She’s ENOUGH for him. They fit each other. He’s the Romeo to her Juliette. She’s aiming high and look, he’s right there: her partner along the way to the top. Her partner and her WAY. Her financer. Her ego boost. Her meal ticket. Her proof that she’s ENOUGH. Her proof that she’s relevant. That she’s BETTER-
THAN. HER. SISTER.
Because, gosh: LL’s world is dictated, her entire sense of self validated, by the existence of Sara Lance. I kid you not. I found this in the show… and it should make you feel sympathy for her. Should make you care. But she destroys our ability to give a crap because of how she handles everything with her sister.
Sara, who is daddy’s girl.
Sara who Oliver keeps leering over and not the older, better sister.
Sara who her mother sides with all the time.
Sara with the multitude of friends.
Sara with the better body.
Sara. Sara. Sara.
Why? Laurel does everything right: she follows the rules, does as she’s told, has become the role model. How does Sara keep BEATING her?
Is it… because Sara takes what she wants and gets away with it? She takes other people’s boyfriends - Laurel’s seen her do this (Arrow S1.5 comics) - she swindles her father for more allowance, her mother gives her free reign over the phone line… she’s selfish.
Well then, so shall LL be.
Suddenly Sara’s grounded-
And it WAS the right thing to do, Sara was too young and she didn’t want her heralded as a slut so soon. Ollie wouldn’t want anything to do with her anyway, but the way she throws herself at him is embarrassing, right?
-And the ‘Ollie Express’ is open season. He says yes. They have sex. Now she has him. She’s wanted by Ollie Queen and he’s settling down for HER. No one else and certainly not Sara. She’s beaten Sara and she’s assured a future for herself. His mother adores her. She fits in.
She can breathe freely again.
And Oliver, he’s so much more than people think: he’s sweet and kind- so what if he’s not that smart, she’s smart enough for the both of them. He’s reliable and honest. He makes her feels beautiful and wanted. All is right in the world. No matter what happens, she’ll always be the one who became Oliver’s first real girlfriend, because she’s special to him. She’s SPECIAL. She’s what he-
Except he’s having an affair behind her back.
With Sara.
Sara who she’d beaten.
Sara who isn’t as smart or as pretty or as EVERYTHING as LL.
Sara who’d gotten on a boat with her boyfriend.
She’s humiliated, but more than that… she’s confused. It’s nonsensical.
She’s everything. She’s perfect. She’s the ONE so… Oliver was happy. He was ready to move forwards with her. Why did he do this? Why does Sara keep beating her? She’s BETTER than Sara.
She’s better than all of them.
If they can't see that, see her... then why do they matter?
And then the realisation: she’s hard done to. She’s the scorned woman. She’s the one betrayed. She’s the one who’s grieving. She’s the one who deals with it in the best way. She’s the one who’ll walk out of this on top.
Oliver and Sara lost at sea? That’s nothing. NOTHING. She’s the one who got hurt and she never deserved it. They should have respected her. Should have loved her more. Ollie deserved to die at sea.
And so… an impetus is born: it generates into an unbreakable mind-set, separated from reality, one that we have to put up with until she dies. Literally.
Narcissism. It’s almost a disorder.
And it’s in the most impossible form: she sets a deliberately high standard for the world to attempt to reach and she gets to watch from up high as everyone tries to touch her seat. A standard that everyone must follow EXCEPT her. If anyone fails to meet it for whatever reason (and they always do), then they fail her expectations and therefore they fail her (this was admitted by KC herself, just fyi). They’re no longer good enough.
But she is though. She’s the ONLY one good enough. She loves her family, but she’s better than them. They’re all liars and stealers and selfish – Sara – betrayers – mom – neglecters – dad – cheaters and disappointments – Ollie – and unworthy – Tommy.
She doesn’t need them, not ever. How could she when she’s better? How could they ever meet her wavelength? How could they ever understand her mission, her heart, when they can’t meet her at the top?
But then her father, who can’t appreciate her because he isn’t capable of seeing her the way he should, makes her feel GUILT about her choice to be a DA.
Uh oh. Suddenly; she doesn’t sound righteous. She sounds like she’s becoming a lawyer for money-
NO. no, LL doesn’t do that, right? She’s better, so she can’t. She can’t fall beneath her FATHER’S set of standards because her own are so much better and she doesn’t have to meet her own because they’re for everyone else on the planet who are undeserving and have yet to face her justice. No one can outrun her justice, her standards.
Except herself.
But her father’s seen something in her, something twisted. The call of money and power and status and it’s a filthy thing isn’t it? Greed. Lust. Covetous.
She becomes the expert at coveting what others have, even as she judges them.
But she has to hide the filth: she’s better than her demons because she judges even them. Her father knows nothing. He doesn’t see her, so how could he? She’ll help him see her.
She joins CNRI to prove him wrong. She’s the pure one again whilst her father’s the alcoholic who can’t get over the daughter who left instead of adoring the daughter who stayed. The daughter who fights.
She sleeps with Tommy because she can, because she’s needy, because he’s Ollie’s best friend; the closest thing to the man she loves and hates and no one need ever know the notch she tied that night to her bed post.
Ollie did it with Sara after all. He could have had the bed post instead of just the notch. He died before he could realise that.
But it happens again and again for months and she has to admit, it’s thrilling aiming down. Obeying an urge for once and she needs the release: getting a job with CNRI immediately after law school instead of the requisite two years in a firm is impossible, but not for LL. Still, it’s tiring and it feels unrewarding, which is why she also needs the ego boost. She needs the validation, that it isn't all for nothing.
This way, she’s both fucking her past goodbye and giving it the finger.
She stops once she gets the job. Stepping stones, all of it. She doesn’t need Tommy, doesn’t need her father, doesn’t need law school anymore because she doesn’t obey the rules like everyone else HAS to.
When Oliver returns, she ignores him. He should have died: it was his punishment for forsaking their happiness.
He can’t touch her anymore; he can only watch from afar. She likes him watching. Likes him seeing exactly what he lost and can never have, what he destroyed.
Sara died because of him.
Her father became a drunk because of him.
Her mother left because of him.
She had to sleep with Tommy because of him.
All whilst he sunbathed on some island somewhere. And look, he doesn’t have to work to earn a living: he’s loaded. He doesn’t have to fight for anything, doesn’t have to strive or push like she does-
She’s envious. And she misses him. And if she misses him, he must miss her. They used to be so happy-
Wait… He suffered on the island?
He was punished?
If he suffered… does that mean he learned from his mistakes and that’s why he apologised?
He earned his stay on the island so maybe… he’s earned the right to forgiveness?
Suddenly he’s too tempting. She could have him again: he’s telling her she could. Oliver Queen, playboy billionaire, learned his lesson and wants her.
Of course he does.
She’s the best woman alive.
It’s the biggest ego boost of her life; a wave of chemicals that carries her away, that makes her kiss him. That scares her because she thought she was strong enough to not ant him again. EXCITEDLY because if he’s also the vigilante who went to HER for help-
But then… he reveals that he’s damaged and still a playboy and she has to retract once he fails her standards again.
A damaged man who won’t pursue her? Not her problem. She’s not interested. That man isn’t her Ollie. She'll check in again when he isn't quite so damaged.
Yet, even as Tommy worms into her, she keeps Oliver in mind.
It truly stuns her when he gives them his blessing. He… he was supposed to want her, to show reluctance.
Why does he look happy for them? She’s not.
He’s giving up the chance of them, and he’s SMILING?
How can he be? Doesn’t it torture him? She’s choosing his best friend over him, FEEL SOMETHING. FIGHT.
But he doesn't.
And he is changing, improving. Making waves - she’s taking notice.
So let him date lesser women, they won’t last and they DON’T.
HAH.
In the meantime, she’s fighting crime. The vigilante NEEDS her – he hasn’t asked anyone else for help: there’s only her. Tommy loves HER. Ollie loves her. Her father keeps butting in because he’s afraid for her safety and he’s realised just how prominent a figure she’s becoming, how important she is, but he’s too late to have a say in her life and he must watch her advance.
It all revolves around her now, as it should have before. She's the lead of her own story. They’re all realising how right she was, how they never should have put her second and not first. How they should have never made her feel less, and it’s ridiculous how she ever let them. They were all wrong.
She was made for greatness.
And then Ollie tells her everything she already knew about herself and it’s a king-size aphrodisiac: he thinks the same way she does. He knows she was always the best, always the ONE. He’s reached her level. And together they can soar above all others. They’re in love and will evolve and will lead the city into the future together. It's all slotting into place.
But he’s not her; he’s not righteous so she can ignore him when he gives her solid advice about staying out of the Glades. He’ll learn that she knows better, is better. That the world makes way for her and not the other way around-
Tommy dies.
It’s not because of the way she thinks. It's not because she was wrong. It’s NOT.
It was his choice, not hers. She doesn’t have to listen, but he should have. She never wanted him to come get her, she was waiting for Oliver.
And Oliver does come to her apartment: they reminisce. They’re together and that’s all that matters, so she starts planning. He’ll move in with her, there’ll be a marriage and move into the mansion-
Ollie leaves.
Again.
He left. He LEFT. HE-
No, she IS his ONE and ONLY. SHE IS. But the Hood and Malcolm ruined everything. It’s their fault Tommy died, that Ollie left. It wasn't because she was wrong or that she wasn't/isn't enough.
Their fault, not hers.
So why… does she feel guilty?
She knows really, but she pushes it back, away. Admitting to it would irrevocably damage her belief system.
And… she’s always right. And because she’s right, she leads a righteous charge against the hood, because it’s all his fault. Tommy died, ollie left, she’s feeling guilty and she keeps drinking- it’s all someone else’s fault!
Except it’s not.
It’s hers.
She'd been wrong.
Her world view crashes in on itself.
Nothing happened the way it was supposed to. She has no defence because she should have never needed one. That’s what being superior means.
Drugs and alcohol. How the mighty have fallen. No one can know… but even if they do, it doesn’t matter because she’s allowed to grieve like this. It’s grieving. Not shame. She's allowed to drink and change and be self-destructive. And everyone else doesn’t get it, they aren’t being fair.
Tommy dies.
Ollie left again.
She loses her job.
Her best friend gets a position as DA, well she’s not her best friend anymore: how dare she achieve greater. Johanna was supposed to help her, not step past her. Instead, LL is left behind and if her friend won't help her, then what good is she? She doesn’t need Johanna; she doesn’t need anyone.
She’s stronger. Better.
But then Sara comes back…
Sara died. It was her punishment. She’s not serving her punishment anymore. And she's come back, looking like she'd been on a six year pleasure cruise. That isn't fair at all. She’s unworthy. She ruined LL’s life. Her death was justice. How can the source of all her problems be alive…
And beautiful
Vibrant
Intelligent
Attractive to Oliver
Beloved by her father- her father who turned against her again in favour of Sara
Sara who went through the worst and resurfaced out untouched. Clean. As if SHE IS stronger, better. More.
How can I be like that?
She can’t.
Somewhere, deep down… she knows she can’t.
And she’s humbled by Sara who made her see how much she’d fallen… and for now, Sara can be the better of the two. She can pick up the slack and LL can watch, proud of her baby sister. She can give herself a break and compare others to her sister. Measure them by Sara’s measuring stick.
But it won’t be long at all until she’s BACK. Until she’s just as bright.
Until she’s better than Sara.
Until Sara needs her.
Until her father needs her.
Until Oliver needs her, because he stopped looking at her when she fell from on high.
She wants to return, to be part of that world.
But Sara is killed before she can become as beautiful. And it’s so clear that becoming as beautiful is impossible for LL. It too hard to digest that Sara is gone: Sara, the perfect fruition of a Lance daughter. The perfect her. The version of her that LL wished she'd been. So she’ll take on the mantle to honour Sara…
And in becoming Sara, she’s able to be more again. Be better again. Get back on that high saddle once more and she’s missed it up there. It feels right. It feels REALLY good. She’s been watching and learning… and her covetous nature had never died. She can’t be as bright as Sara.
So she’ll just become darker. A better Canary, never mind that canaries aren't dark.
She’ll wear Sara’s suit but she’ll be more. She’ll own it and make it her own, because this was always meant to be. It was never supposed to be Sara.
SHE is the justice you can’t run from.
This is the world she was made for. Oliver’s world. It was meant to be. So what if he’s angry at her presence: it’s because he cares about her, because he loves her. She'll fight him for a spot. He let Sara fight with him because he didn’t love her as much, but he loves LL too much. That’s why they aren’t together. Sometimes it’s just too painful to risk.
And it’s the best therapy. No more drugs. It’s addictive and it’s painful, but it’s better than anything else- in fact, it’s better than sex. Better than Oliver-
Oliver… Left?
With Felicity?
Because… he just wants her. HER. Out of everyone. He’s casting aside the hood… for another woman.
He and ll: they're supposed to fighting together, THAT’S how this works.
Then it’s just a phase. He’ll return and fight and realise he can’t live without the hood. He can’t without LL.
Except it’s not working, her fighting. She’s not changing the city so much as watching over it. She’s not moving forward. There’s a void.
There’s no more Sara.
She needs Sara. She needs Sara more than Ollie. The world made more sense with Sara. She might be the BC but Sara showed her the way. Her compass is gone. Her light is gone. And now LL is lost. If Sara’s back, she’ll feel better. There’ll no more void. No more emptiness. And maybe her life can WORK again.
And it’s okay, because she needs it. It’s okay to use Thea, because they’re friends and LL is loved by all. It's okay if disturbing the dead because, she wants it badly enough. It’s okay that Sara kills someone because it’s for the greater good: it’s for LL.
And with Sara alive somewhere, Oliver being with someone else doesn’t feel so bad. They’re soul mates after all, maybe one day…
And then he and Felicity break up and it’s PERFECT: no more Felicity in the basement, they don’t need her for him to stare at and Sara is alive. Oliver is TRAINING her. HE needs HER. Trusts her. LOVES her. WANTS HER.
So she suggests sex and-
He… is totally unreceptive. Isn’t… remotely interested… isn’t even remotely forward.
But… he’s in love with her and no longer tied down to Felicity. This should work. It’s been leading to this, right?
She has it all: she’s queen of the basement, Felicity is elsewhere and it doesn’t matter – so what if Thea isn’t talking to her, if Sara is out of the country. She and Oliver will fight crime together and maybe he’ll learn to love her again. Maybe he’ll-
Never. Love. Her. Not the way she loves him.
Because there’s just NOTHING there for him with her. He's alone even when he's with her and she knows what that's like.
Maybe he never could reach high enough to her again.
Maybe he knows he’ll never be good enough…
Or maybe... she’s just that conceited and Felicity… Felicity is just THAT wonderful,  that necessary to him because she is, isn’t she? She was there when LL wasn’t:
Felicity believed when LL didn’t
Felicity cared when LL didn’t
Felicity led him to places LL couldn’t
Felicity is, in many ways, stronger than LL and Sara combined and that truth stings
Felicity changed him without trying to
Felicity made him better… and ll can already see the cracks in him where Felicity’s absence has hurt him.
Without Felicity, Oliver will fall: LL's presence won't stop that.
Without Felicity, the city will crumble… because in the end, ll’s just a tiny pawn in a huge movement that she hasn’t contributed much to and she admits this finally to herself and to Oliver. The dirty truth.
It was all to feel alive, not to SAVE lives. It was all for her. But that doesn’t mean she’ll just let Oliver live without her because it’s thanks to her that he got on that boat: she helped create him! She’s responsible. She’s the ALBATROSS and she will never leave him. She changed his life forever: she left her indelible hand-print: SHE IS IMPORTANT DAMMIT.
The most important.
FLATLINE.
The end.
O_O
Yeah.
There's a less harsh explanation for LL:
She’s defensive due to the bad way she was treated after believing that her life was perfect, to her own detriment. She doesn’t have the kind of personality others can enjoy and rather than try to gain friends, she decides to simply be herself no matter how she comes across.
And there’s a much harsher explanation:
LL, at heart, isn’t a very nice person. She knows this so she builds an image that opposes the inner her. Addictions make her feel better about who and what she is, but they also help her to manage the stress of being, inside, the kind of person who doesn’t feel the empathy she should. There's an image to maintain so that no one knows the truth. Becoming a vigilante is more about how it feels to break rules and gain the kind of power only a mask can provide, than it is about helping people. In the end, she’s able to gain that vindictive pleasure of knowing that Oliver will never be without her. And every version of a canary has caused Oliver nothing but grief which is fine… because he broke her. Deep down, she just wants to be bad without being judged for it. Without facing consequences, which is why black siren fit the bill so much more than E1 LL ever did.
Again, this is just an opinion and a bit of fun when writing fanfic-
Anyway, Jessica's shutting up now because that’s enough out of me for one day. Back to work.

ABTV Feb 25 Transcript
A complete transcript of the ABTV Voltron interview with Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery on February 25 2019 is under the cut.
@crystal-rebellion @voltronisruiningmylife @felixazrael @leakinghate
KC: The series is over, but we’re not quite done. We are the Afterbuzz TV Voltron: Legendary Defender after-show and we’re here to talk to you guys about season 8 as a whole. We’re gonna talk about character arcs. We’re gonna talk about the end of reality. We’re going to talk about some of our favorite moments, and we’re gonna talk about them with two very special guests. So let’s get this ball rolling and team, it’s time to form Voltron!
KC: Hello, everyone! Welcome back. We are the Afterbuzz TV Voltron: Legendary Defender after-show. This is the season 8 review. We are gonna talk about season 8 as a whole. We are going to have a grand old time doing it. I have with me a green lion, Megan Salinas.
MS: Hey, everybody!
KC: I’m black lion, Katie Cullen, and we have two wonderful, fantastic, returning guests that we are so thrilled to have in studio. Our showrunners: Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim dos Santos.
JDS: How’s it going?
MS: [cheers off-screen]
JDS: It’s nice to see you guys.
LM: Yeah, thanks for having us. We’re happy to be back and talking about the final season.
JDS: Yeah, and we have to sort of give a pre-warning that we haven’t really watched it in a while, so we aren’t really sure what season 8 is anymore.
LM: Yeah, I did, I refreshed myself on the, uh, episode thumbnails on Netflix, so at least I have like, a slight reminder.
JDS: Yeah and they spoil everything for you.
KC: No, just me.
[laughter]
KC: Things I will never be over: when Netflix marketing screws up that bad. Well, welcome back. Before we get started we are gonna do a little bit of housekeeping. As always, we have the livechat going for those of you who are watching live on YouTube. We have the hashtag for those of you who are watching live or listening later. That hashtag is #ABTVVoltron. If you’ve got something to say, throw it in the hashtag, throw it in the live chat, you may well get a shoutout. I will say that we do check the hashtag throughout the week, and it lasts longer than the livechat does, so art, links, fun stuff, throw it in there if you want it to be a little more permanent. And as always, we have our tavern of lions house rule: be nice or get out. We--[laser sound effect]--there we go. Yeah. Everyone has opinions. I firmly believe you can express your opinions in a respectful manner and if you find yourself unable to do that, you will be banned from the channel. No more Afterbuzz animation for you. Buh-bye. Most of you have been pretty dang good at that, which I appreciate. Keep it up and we’ll continue. Season 8, though, you guys.
MS: Oh my goodness.
KC: The series finale. What was releasing this last season like for you?
LM: It was…
JDS: Exhausting.
LM: Yeah. Releasing it was really easy because we were, like, out of, you know--
MS: It’s done!
LM: --out of work for, like, a month and we were like, [noncommittal noises]. We were relaxing, we were kind of like--things were nice and slow. Making it was a whole different scenario. This was where we really procrastinated a lot on a few things, like, we thought we had this beautiful idea that we’d have all this time at the end where there’s no new episodes coming up that we’d have to make and like, we’ll have all this time to, like, reboard all these things that needed to be reboarded and focus all this attention. And we had none of that time, and I don’t even know how that happened. I think what we forgot to realize was doing our regular producer duties takes the whole day, and the end of the day was when we did all of our storyboard stuff.
JDS: I think, I don’t know how the math worked in our head, but I think we assumed that, like, as soon as season 7 was done, we reverted back to being, like, storyboard artists or something, and then we’d just be like, “yeah, we’ll just, like, draw and stuff again.”
LM: Yeah, we’ll have all this time to just, like, make the finale the best it can be. Like, I remember us talking with Eugene, like, “Oh my god, Jean. Eugene, when we’re done with, like, this last batch of episodes can you imagine how much time.” And he’s like, “Yeah, it’s gonna be so great!” And then, like, there was none of that because we were still making the frickin’ show and finishing, like, episodes just in editing and in post.
JDS: Balancing act was still happening, you know, like three spinning plates at a time.
LM: One day, I’m gonna figure it out.
KC: Sending it in at 11:59 before it’s due.
JDS: We’re gonna be, like, 80-year-olds like, “We figured it out!” And they’re gonna be like, “What’s this crazy old person doing here trying to make a cartoon?”
KC: That’s what we’re all trying to do collectively. We’re making a cartoon.
JDS: That’s right.
KC: So you had a lot of story threads to bring together and resolve as well as a lot of new information to give us. Was there… was there anything that got lost in the shuffle? Was there anything you would have liked to emphasize a little more that there just wasn’t time for it?
JDS: A lot, I mean yeah. It-it’s tough. We had this massive Honerva backstory to sort of really set up and queue up, and-and we were able to do that a little bit, sort of, leading up, but season 8 was really our big push to-to get that all set up. I think, you know, that came at the cost of, like, I would have loved to have spent more time with the MFE pilots and sort of figure out what made them tick. And we got a little bit of that with, you know, like, “Day 47”, but…
LM: Yeah.
JDS: I don’t know. There was stuff like that, like incidental side characters that we just were-we were super fond of.
LM: Yeah, it’s one of those really tricky things about having a show this big. As you introduce all these characters, and we had all these great ideas of, like, they’re all gonna come into play in these many different ways. And-and so you would be, kind of, in the writers’ room with the writers, like, talking about all these things. And then slowly but surely as we needed to just kind of whittle it down and make it understandable and get the strongest points across, like, these little things would fall away and so suddenly you’d lose that-that kind of side character involvement. Like, we had this idea of, like, Slav was gonna kind of be, like, with them and figuring out all of these, like, crazy interreality traveling stuff and like he would know all the realities, he would know exactly where to go, he’ll be in the cockpit with them--
JDS: Right, right, right.
LM: --it’s gonna be crazy. And then we were like, “Oh, no. We need to just, like--do we really need Slav in the finale? Like--
KC: Yes you do.
LM: --with all the paladins? Like, we love him, but that might be a little awkward. So, uh, yeah. And honestly, just, like, the finale itself, just that last episode, like, we’ve always…
JDS: Yeah.
LM: With every finale we’ve done, um, in-in our three, like, big seasons, we--you know, Zarkon we consider to be one season, Lotor is the second season, and then this big, like, Sendak Earth/Honerva arc--each of those had a big finale and every time we would write that big finale and we would run out of time. Like, we would overwrite it and I would always try to say, like, “Guys, we need, like, at least an act of wrap-up.” And then for the big series finale, like, it would have been awesome to have an entire episode where we could just dedicate to, like, tying up loose ends, but you can’t do that. We-we wrote an episode and then we got notes like, “Hey, there’s only action in act 1, can we have action in act 2 and 3?” And we’re like, “No! No we can’t!” Like, like, we gotta wrap up 78 episodes! This isn’t just a, uh, a 26 episode wrap-up. This is a 78 episode wrap-up.
JDS: But when you-when you look at that final episode, it really is just the first act of, like, fight stuff and the rest is pretty much wrap-up. Uh, I mean, we were just saying to each other, we wished that the conversation in limbo almost could have had its own episode. How awesome would that have been to really, like, explore, deep-dive into Honerva’s POV and make that transition when she, you know, sort of decides to go along with Allura. Sell that. Uh, but, you sort of deal--
LM: It was--there’s a ton of stuff that just hit the-hit the, kinda, cutting room floor, storyboard-wise, just because we didn’t have the time and so we’re looking like, it’s a kids’ show technically still, even though we’re trying to make it more than that. You have a-a scene that’s basically an act long that’s just in a white floaty space with people talking about, like, you know--
JDS: Bigger emotional stuff
LM: Yeah. And, uh, you know, letting that go any longer than that is just like, “You can’t do it!”
KC: Yeah.
LM: “Kids are sleeping right now!”
JDS: No it’s, what’s interesting, though, is that it seems like we’re in a--I don’t know--sort of social situation now where those types of shows are becoming more and more of a reality. And we were on this, like, weird precipice where we were always working on shows that were pushing the boundaries, and maybe Voltron was on the tipping point. It seems like now animation is way--it’s broadening, like, every day, so hopefully we’ll be able to see more shows that can, like, lean in and get really, really character-centric and still have all the sci-fi, like, big action stuff to go along with it. Um,
LM: I was telling Joaquim how, you know, we were just talking about how during our time on Voltron we-we started in a very specific point in the industry where we were very used to working inside of our boys toys animation box and trying to push the boundaries. And those were literally the only jobs that were available to us because those were the only shows that studios had in animation and during our time on Voltron, like Castlevania came out and changed the landscape and now suddenly there’s all these studios. Netflix opened its own studio here. We were making a show through DreamWorks for Netflix and now, you know, we could have just gone straight to Netflix and made a show that was more geared towards, like, young adults and-and more, but that wasn’t available to us when we started.
JDS: We were, like, trying to, like, like, sneak it in the back door like “this is secretly a much deeper show, everybody.”
LM: But it’s exciting that--because that’s--it’s a reality that we didn’t know if it would ever be a thing because we were working on Korra and we would say to ourselves, like, “This is the last time we’re ever gonna get this chance, you guys.” Like, Korra is, like, a crazy creature where Nickelodeon knows they’re not making it for kids, it has no toy tie-in, has no consumer products tie-in, it’s just meant to be kind of an art project at the studio. And so it was allowed to be this very mature, different show for an audience that they didn’t really understand. And-and so when it was over we were like, “Alright, well, back to the old way.” Uh, you know, we were prepared for it and we, you know, we definitely had more of, like, a fun campy vibe to Voltron, but we still wanted to try to push those bigger themes--
JDS: I think we maximized as much of the, like, sort of pathos and-and sort of hero’s journey and sort of deep character introspective stuff as we could.
KC: Yeah.
JDS: But, you know, it’s-it’s funny too because it just seems, maybe even to ourselves, but it seemed like the lines got blurred even in how it was, uh, uh, received by the fandom and received by, even like, the media outlets. It was-it was sort of, like, on the cusp of being talked about, you know, with other shows that were way more mature like, “Oh, the Game of Thrones of it all” and it’s like “[hesitant honking noise].”
[laughter]
KC: “We didn’t kill that many pe--oh we did kill that many people. We ended reality!”
MS: [indistinct] way more people than Game of Thrones.
JDS: So we did. We did-we pushed the boundaries.
LM: Yeah, and we would--we’d find ourselves getting compared to shows that we were… like live-action shows where, like, “Oh, they should have done it like this,” and it’s like, “That, that would be awesome if that were an option at all--”
JDS: Right, right, right.
LM: “--in any way.” But, uh, us-us to consider our, like, little robot lion show being made, us trying to make this show for as many people as possible under the guidelines of a “boys toys” show, it’s never gonna be able to have, like, quite the ability to push farther that, like, a live-action, like Walking Dead on AMC that’s at 10 o’clock at night specifically for adults where you don’t have to worry about “how are my kids gonna do with this?”
KC: If your kids are watching Walking Dead, you have other problems.
MS: Either that or you’re the best parent in the world.
KC: Uh, disagree.
MS: Agree to disagree!
KC: Disagree!
MS: But was it that sort of desire to push the boundaries that, sort of, resulted in this climax where, “Yeah, we have the big action set piece leading up to it,” but ultimately the resolution is one that’s brought up from empathy and understanding.
JDS: I think so. And I think--I will say DreamWorks was incredibly patient with us with regards to us broaching a lot of these subjects. They were, you know, maybe still figuring things out in terms of how they would approach, you know, other topics that we can-we can get into a little later. But I would say the finale is almost--I don’t know, I don’t want to say unlike anything you would see in other like-minded shows, like, let’s say Transformers or Power Rangers or something that, like, Voltron was by outward appearances being compared to--but it was something, I think, really exciting for us to be able to explore because we did create villains and create heroes that worked within this very, kind of like, shades of gray spectrum. There was-there was-there was black, there was white, but we played in this really weird, morally-ambiguous zone a lot of the time and that was, I think it’s important for, kind of, audiences of every age group to see that.
LM: And, you know, we also came from working on shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra which very much pushed those boundaries as well, and were extremely groundbreaking for, you know, children’s programming and it was not something that was coming out of western animation. So, uh, I mean we, I would say we learned an insane amount from Mike and Bryan.
JDS: We just had to reverse-engineer that into the goofy cat lady. [Hosts laugh] You know what I mean? That was, like, that was our, like, little-little trick to the industry. It was like, “How do we do all that cool stuff that-that we were able to do in those shows and sort of cram it into this package?”
LM: Yeah, and honestly, like, a lot of it was just us knowing that our ability to, like, show everything on-screen, like, every type of representation we might have wanted to show. We might not get our way on everything, but at least through having these larger lessons we can-we can still push those messages of acceptance and of understanding and of, like, looking beyond. And you know, those are just important messages. I think, like, everyone kind of learns them in their life in their own way and, uh, I don’t know, like, I was such a little, like, asshole kid [Hosts laugh] that, like, I, like, didn’t understand empathy. I didn’t understand why people cried when they were happy, I was like, “Why would you cry when you’re happy? Like, you’re happy.” And then, of course, now I’m the woman who watched a T-Mobile commercial today and friggin’ cried, so--
JDS: I want to know what this commercial was.
LM: It was beautiful. I’ll describe it to you after because I don’t want to take time.
[Laughter]
LM: But uh--
KC: Advertising other brands, uh, [concerned noise].
LM: But uh, you know, there-there are things that come through, I think, life experience and through learning and our paladins had that, kind of, on steroids with their whole Voltron journey, so you know, to really show how that manifested and how they learn from it was… it’s important, and it-I think it’s just important for kids to see it, even if they’re not there in their life yet, to know when they get there they look back and, like, “Oh, I-I saw that, like--”
JDS: “I saw that happening to that character.”
KC: To be able to see it happen to someone else and someone that you’re invested in because, “Oh, it’s Lance! He’s my favorite!” and then you watch him grow from this brat to the right arm of Voltron. Yeah, actually I think this is a good point to start talking about character arcs in this season.
MS: I think so! Yeah!
KC: Let’s talk about Honerva. Let’s talk about this horrorterror! She’s-she is amazing and horrifying and not the villain I expected to make it to the very end. Here we are, I’m impressed.
JDS: Let me ask you, though, were you at all sympathetic to her and her, sort of, cause [indistinct]?
MS: 100%. Um, it-it’s so--she was one of the most fascinating characters to watch because once she gets her memory back and she realized--you know, contextually-speaking we as the audience find out who she is at the same time she does--uh, you, you slowly start to realize how much of this entire scenario she’s responsible for whether inadvertently or not. And so it’s so fascinating watch her refusal to take responsibility for her part in it but still desperately wanting that sym--you know, the human connections that she was denied. You know, human, so to speak.
JDS: Sure.
MS: Altean!
JDS: Altean.
KC: It’s telling that the perfect world that she found to slot herself into is the dimension where she died. [MS makes an agonized noise] Where-where this whole--
JDS: She was taken out of the equation?
KC: Yeah, it’s possible that it’s a dimension where the comet never happened because Voltron was obviously a surprise. The alliances were still there but the giant robots were, “You’ve brought this monster down upon us, what are you?”
JDS: Right.
KC:  So it’s-it’s telling that that’s the perfect dimension that she found is the one where she died super early on.
MS: And correct me if I’m wrong, but her--to obtain the perfect world--she was also basically willing to kill infinite versions of her son and her husband in order to get what she deemed she was worthy of.
JDS: Well, I--that’s, and that’s sort of like the misdirected love, right? Like, she was in one hand looking for the acceptance and the love of family that she never had, but she was blind to everything else, all the other chaos that she was causing as a result. That to me is-is interesting. I feel, you know--
LM: Yeah. It’s an interesting character. It’s not necessarily, like, the most honorable by any means, but you know, characters, when you can understand why they want it but then you see them doing things that are absolutely unacceptable to get it, it’s like you know it’s wrong but you know, you can-can kind of understand--
JDS: We’re hearing crackle in our ears, everybody. [Hosts laugh] That might be me, I’m just gonna go ahead and put it on the floor.
MS: It’s probably mine.
KC: It’s--your phone case doesn’t like the table. It-it’s, no seriously, it’s super weird and I’m pretty sure it’s your phone case. Sorry, I was trying to do that silently so I didn’t interrupt you.
JDS: I was going to call attention to it, please carry on, sorry.
LM: Oh no, we were talking about Honerva, or something.
KC: Great podcasting.
LM: Yeah, there-there’s something really incredible, like, interesting to me about her, kind of victim mentality where she-she really won’t accept that, like, a lot of this is her fault. She just looks at, basically, like, she’s lost her whole life. She’s witnessed it not knowing that it was hers, realizing looking back on all the things she should have done differently, that she could have done differently and it’s kind of, you know, she’s kind of trying to point that blame. I was like, “Well, if I--the quintessence hadn’t, uh-duh-duh,” you know, she-she’ll turn it on everyone except her, even though she was right there, you know, kind of diving into this whole quintessence research and bringing this whole thing about.
KC: “It’s Voltron’s fault.”
[MS laughs]
JDS: But it was also cool, I think, you know, one of the things that I was really surprised of in the room--I don’t really remember how it came up--was the notion that when she shows up in this reality and then Voltron follows, they’re like, “Why have you brought this, like, demon monster to our world?” It’s a-it’s-it’s a-it’s a crazy, sort of, flip of the script where really, you know, Voltron was doing good, but in a lot of people’s eyes and it’s, you know, in a certain people’s eyes, it could be seen as--
LM: I mean, you wouldn’t know. You wouldn’t know any better.
JDS: --bringing chaos.
MS: Voltron was the robeast in that scenario.
JDS: That’s right!
MS: You know, it’s like, “Look at this giant monstrosity that’s gonna wreak havoc on our planet.”
KC: Because Honerva parked hers out back.
LM: She was smart enough to store it off-planet, wink wink.
JDS: And we were talking a little bit before this about, you know, how there’s this portion of the fandom that’s like, “How could you, like, justice for Lotor!” and-and where, you know, “where is his redemption” and “how could you kill him off?” and obviously, you know, we feel we’re coming from a point of, you know, he’s gone so far off the deep end that-that death was really the only, sort of, salvation that he had on some level. But it’s interesting that it was-it was Lotor in that reality, there was a version of Lotor that was, you know, unaffected and uncorrupted, and-and you know, doesn’t come from that-that kind of horrific background that our Lotor did that, uh, was in essence, kind of kicked off everything being turned on Honerva’s plans.
KC: Yeah.
MS: It really does highlight how a person’s, like, the circumstances that they find themselves in really do have an effect on the person they become.
JDS: Right.
KC: But it’s also a matter of choice. Like, this up--these awful, awful things happen to him, like there’s no question that Lotor would have turned out better had his parents been physically capable of empathy. They’re kind of zombies, so it’s an issue.
JDS: There’s nature versus nurture.
KC: That’s not the weirdest thing I’ve said today.
JDS: Aww.
KC: That’s not the weirdest thing I’ve said today. Um, but even after all that happened, he made the choice to go, “You know what? Fine! Violence it is!” And lean super hard into that curve, even while he was still going, “Oh no, I don’t want to mess with my Galra heritage. Oh no, I’d rather be an Altean. Oh no, this.” Like…
JDS: Right. And-and that’s--I think that noncleanliness of, like, where he fits in and, like, the villain category, or the hero category, or the character that’s going to be redeemed, or… That is an area that we like to play in and sometimes does not have the answers that everybody’s sort of hoping for, you know.
LM: We’d like to blur those lines, but sometimes, you know, the lines are blurred, therefore the fans have their own interpretations, but ultimately it’s a story, guys. And not everyone gets to have a happy ending in the story.
JDS: I will say he was beautiful.
[laughter]
JDS: He had beautiful hair.
KC: He did!
JDS: And him and Allura together look beautiful together.
MS: Mm-hmm!
KC: This is very true.
LM: Oh, you’re treading into some dangerous territory there, buddy.
JDS: But, you know, I will--that, you know, that isn’t from a story perspective, sort of, place to, uh--
LM: Yeah.
JDS: --to work back from if that makes sense.
KC: Yeah, but, you ever see those beautiful flowers and then you go to smell them and they smell like death itself? That’s kinda that.
JDS: Hell of a point. MS: I still ship it, but no! It does not work within the framework of the narrative in any capacity.
JDS: Sure, sure.
KC: Look, there is a universe in which it happened and it was fine, this is not that universe.
MS: And that’s the--
JDS: And that’s the beauty of more--
MS: Multiverse stories! There’s an AU where it totally worked out and everyone was happy.
LM: Yes, and there’s comics to be written, fanfics, go crazy.
KC: Yeah.
MS: Yeah, well, and ultimately it’s the memory of what he was trying to do that brings Honerva around.
JDS: Exactly. Yeah. And so there was, there was goodness in him, like, you can’t-you can’t deny that. But, um, some actions are, you know, really your only way out.
KC: You kinda gotta--
JDS: From a story perspective is you gotta, you gotta kind of pay that ultimate price.
KC: Well, for Lotor there was some good in him, but uh, cool motive, still murder.
MS: So much murder!
KC: Lots and lots of murder!
JDS: Totally involved a ton of murder.
KC: Yeah, pretty sure all of the battery Alteans are super dead because I don’t think anyone else found that moon.
MS: Yeah!
JDS: Right.
MS: Talk to Bandor if you wanna hear about why Lotor doesn’t get a redemption arc.
[KC makes uncomfortable noises]
MS: I’m sure Romelle would love to hear your thoughts on that.
JDS: By the way, when that episode came out, and when we were getting, like, the recording, we couldn’t stop saying to each other, “Bandor! Bandor!” Like, we loved that read so much, like, and we love that name.
[Hosts laugh]
LM: Bandor.
JDS: Oh, Bandor.
MS: Well there were-there were a lot of fun--talking about that--there were a lot of fun references to the original series in this season. Like at the very beginning we actually have a clip from the original series playing.
KC: We did! “I don’t sound like that!” God bless Bex and their ability to sound like that.
JDS: Yeah.
LM: We, uh, we love the original show and we always had this silly idea because we played with so many different realities that, like, what if in our reality the show it’s, it’s technically live-action to them and it’s being made about them. And so it’s like, because here we are making a show that’s based on that show, and I was like, “Ooh, what if that show was based on our show?”
JDS: It’s super meta, it’s like inverse meta.
LM: It was just funny to us that, like, we could work it in. And we always wanted to work it in in some way just because, you know, we love it and we like to pay homage to it. But that, like, we-we joked about it and we actually had a few more references, like, in the episode. I ended up way super-overwriting that episode, so we cut a bunch of stuff, like, you know like the rookie writer mistake. Um, but, uh--
JDS: It was all gold, it was all gold. It just had to go.
LM: Yes.
[Hosts laugh]
LM: I paid him to say that.
MS: You have to kill your darlings.
KC: Yup.
LM: But, uh, there was a scene where they were gonna see, like, the Sven dies scene. Shiro wasn’t there, though, but like, Eddie was like, “Hunk and Keith were, like, at little viewing party with, like, Hunk’s family.” And uh, and then they see the scene, they’re like, “Wow, they’re really taking some liberties” like--
[laughter]
LM: “--they were making their own story about the paladins.” And it was just--
KC: There wasn’t a space hospital!
JDS: That’s right.
MS: I would have expired. I would not be here right now if that had happened because I would have died laughing.
KC: I would’ve been doing this show on my own this season.
JDS: There-there was a version of it.
LM: It never made it, it never even really made it past, like, the roughs and storyboard, ‘cuz again, like, I so overwrote that episode that we just started hacking stuff out.
JDS: There was also, Tim Hedrick did an amazing Pidge in the room and a lot of, like, us being so obsessed with him was just going like, “Waaaahhhh?” If ever something was, like, confusing he would just go “waaahhhhh”. Bring in more OG Pidge. Bex.
KC: Yeah, Bex’s ability to emulate that voice.
JDS: Oh, she nailed it.
KC: Oh yeah, they are just wonderful.
MS: They’re amazing.
LM: Yeah, we got to do that, we got to have the little nod to, like, Pidge’s outfit and Allura’s outfit that, like, kind of goes by real quick.
MS: Those are so fun.
KC: That was pretty great.
MS: That montage. And then we got Chip at the end, too! And Vehicle Voltron!
LM: I know! Like, we’re the biggest trolls ever, like, “here’s a show we’re never gonna make!”
KC: That and the epilogue about, “They made the next generation of Voltron!” and it’s like, “it’s happening. It’s happening!”
JDS: We queued it up real nicely for whoever wants to do it, by the way.
LM: Yeah, you know, if anyone wants to take that. But, uh, we, you know, I, so, I’m just gonna admit I never watched Vehicle Voltron.
JDS: How dare you.
KC: Same, I had to google what Chip was.
LM: But, uh, you know, like, I did my research. Like, there’s a cool idea to-idea to it there and-and my husband and I were originally recently watching Patlabor--how they call it, that’s what they call it on the thing--Patlabor.
JDS: That’s probably close.
LM: They call Labors. Patlabor was what we always called it, but they’re called Labors and it’s this, like, cop mech show and it’s really clever, like, it’s fun because they have mechs and they’re cops and they just, kind of, episode to episode do cop things. And I was like, “Well, if you’re gonna make a vehicle Voltron, you’ve got these three teams, they could basically be, like, cops in mechs.” And it would be a lot of fun.
MS: You just described my dream show, oh my god.
LM: But, uh, yeah, we queued it up and then-and Chip I just, I loved the idea, like, Pidge’s one goal in life, you know, going out into the world and seeing sentient AI, like to create one of her own and she’s doing it, like, with her brother and it’s this, like, nice bonding moment. And then the fact that Chip was, like, what, Pidge’s cousin or something?
JDS: Yeah, that’s right [indistinct].
MS: I think it was her brother. I believe it was brother in the loosest--it was really just--
JDS: I thought it was just cousin.
MS: It was--it might’ve been cousin.
KC: Well, I mean Sven had “a brother” that they found later on.
MS: It’s a little hard because they started cutting together different series to continue Voltron, so it’s hard to say.
LM: It just made a lot of sense that, you know, she would pursue that and that would be her passion. Technology is her passion. And then you’re with her family and then obviously being such a huge part of the Galaxy Garrison with Voltron, kind of, you know, taking itself out of the equation, they would then--
JDS: Sort of take up the mantle.
LM: Yeah, and then really--
JDS: I do think there’s a pitch, though, where Chip ends up taking over Earth as, like, a sentient AI and becomes the villain a thousand years later.
MS: And it’s the singularity!
LM: Hey man, I was just about to say, like, the dark version is that, like, the Voltron that Sam and-and everyone creates ultimately is, like, you know, the police and then they--yeah--they become the power-hungry, power-hungry Earth.
KC: And there’s a scrappy Galra resistance.
JDS: And they flip the script and become the good guys.
LM: There you go.
KC: Living long enough to see yourself become the villain.
MS: Oh my gosh, I love it.
KC: I don’t have time to get into how much I love this AU because we are gonna run out of time here in a hot second. I--there’s so much I want to talk about and I’m having such a hard time deciding things.
MS: Let’s talk about Allura.
KC: Oh, Allura. She had such a rough season. Incredibly well-telegraphed, very rough.
LM: For sure, I think, you know, we-we knew, like, coming down to it that with Honerva being the final villain, and basically we have two female Altean people who have had a very similar thing happen to them. They’ve lost their families, they’ve lost, like, the life they knew, and it’s just two very different ways of how they handled it.
JDS: That’s right. They’ve had very, in a weird way, similar circumstances and come-and approached it from very different angles.
LM: Yeah, it’s a storyline we wanted to originally do, kind of with Keith and Lotor back when, like, our kind of original story pitch where Shiro was gonna, kind of, exit the show, Keith was gonna be here, he was gonna stay with the team so he wouldn’t have jetted off and gone into the Blade of Marmora, and it was gonna be a big, like Lotor season where you got Lotor, half Altean and half Galra, Keith, half Galra, half human. And it’s like, you’ve got--
JDS: They sort of were--
LM: --yeah, the duality of those two and, like, how does it work out? And, you know, you see Lotor seems like the guy who has it all together in the beginning, but then ultimately Keith evolves and becomes a better person. So we got to play a little bit of that here with Allura and Honerva, who… very similar situations, but Allura going about it, like, the way that it’s-it’s painful to her. She did lose her entire family, she lost her planet, her home, and even now there’s-there’s a sense in the first episode where she realizes once this war ends, she might not even have, like, her Voltron family. It’s like, they have families--
JDS: They’re all gonna go on their ways.
LM: --like, “what are they gonna do? They don’t need me anymore.” And it’s this, kind of, very--it’s selfish in a way, but it’s beautiful because she can feel that way, but she’s not acting on it.
JDS: Right. She’s allowing herself to feel it, but she’s not acting on it.
LM: She’s not sabotaging the war effort to keep them, which, I would have loved to do that. That dark, sick, twisted version of, like, Allura sabotaging the war effort to keep her Voltron family, but, uh--
KC: There is a universe where that happens.
JDS: Yeah, sure.
LM: But uh, but yeah, it was just beautiful to kind of see how much she was willing to take onto herself
JDS: And at the end of the day, like, you know, we keep sort of using this term “boys toys show” because that’s sort of the reality of what we came into. We sort of were taking on this--this franchise that was very merchandise-based and trying to sell toys to young boys essentially. And at the end of the day it became this story, almost Allura’s story solely when you-when you really sort of, like, step back and look at it, but it was-it was this, sort of, face-off of two strong women that were approaching these problems from very different angles and who the heck would have known that that would have, you know, that would have been the--
LM: Yeah, we didn’t even really know it at the beginning.
JDS: We didn’t. We really didn’t. It evolved.
LM: But, but, yeah. It was nice. It was nice because when we-we told Kimberly, and of course she was sad and like, listen, we know it’s--we never--it’s never personal, we’re not like, “You know, I don’t like that Kimberly, let’s kill Allura.” It’s never that.
KC: At the very last minute.
LM: But it’s, like--
JDS: We also told Neil when--
LM: We told Neil, and we try to be kind and, like, let people know and so we let her know ahead of time and so she’s not just reading the script like, “What the hell?”
KC: “What?!”
LM: And she was sad, but we just let her know, like, “Listen, this is Allura’s story, like, she is literally the hero. She’s not dying to further another hero’s story, she is the hero. Like, this war ends with her.” And then I made her a completely, um, fake promise that I couldn’t really make her. But it--
JDS: I think I know what this fake promise is.
LM: Because I have no control over what they do with Voltron, but I was like, “Listen, if we do any more episodes, I’m bringing her back. We’re not--I’m not making this show without her.” But then, like, I have no control.
MS: But there’s no Voltron without Allura.
LM: I have no control after this point.
KC: Eight seasons, now we need a movie.
JDS: Honestly that the, sort of, post-credits thing was leaving that door open.
LM: Yeah.
JDS: The Lions taking off and seeing the, you know, Allura nebulae, I think, in our minds, it was sort of her quintessence coalescing and--
LM: Reforming. It’s, like, kind of coming back together, so you can do whatever you want with that, like--
JDS: Yeah, but it was--
KC: Have fun, guys!
JDS: Honestly it was-it was a door left open. Like, there’s nobody ever really dies in comics or animation.
LM: I mean, yeah. I feel like comics and animation and sci-fi in and of itself is a door left open.
JDS: Right, right, right.
LM: If the word sci-fi exists in a definition of your show, there is a door left open.
JDS: This was like one step back from the ending of Iron Giant. [hosts going “ohhh”] Like, we didn’t actually, like, show all the pieces going and the thing.
LM: Yeah, like there isn’t an Allura hand that’s just, like, crawling through space.
JDS: Yeah, there’s no hand, like, jumping through the snow.
MS: That would have been terrible! Oh my gosh. But yeah! I think there’s this misconception because Allura is a woman of color and so I think a lot of fans only looking at it superficially were like, “Oh, the woman of color was killed off.” And it’s, like, yeah, there is a trope of people of color dying to save the stupid white people around them, like I understand that trope. But the problem with that superficial interpretation is that they’re ignoring the fact that she’s the main character here.
JDS: Well, there’s that and also just to put it on the table, our original pitch was that they were all gonna die.
KC: Woah!
[Hosts scream and cackle]
JDS: And that got taken off the table.
KC: I love it!
LM: It’s teamwork! Voltron! And honestly, in my opinion, that would have been an easier, like, window to bring them back. If they all disappeared, you could pop them all back anytime and you got the team again. Easy-easy spinoff. But, uh--
JDS: Sorry if the board is blowing up.
KC: So it wouldn’t have been, like, literal bodies, it would have been just disappeared.
LM: Yeah.
KC: Okay.
JDS: We’re not showing, like--
KC: We’re not showing Lotor.
JDS: We showed, like, the melted, like, Lotor body, but--
LM: It would have been the same--
MS: Nobody’s getting Cronenberged in this scenario
KC: Except Lotor.
LM: --same scene except that we, you know, instead of Allura taking it upon herself, they all would have agreed to do it together and-and they would have gone in and essentially taken Voltron out of the equation.
JDS: Right.
LM: That was something we actually really believed for even from early on, we introduced this idea that Alfor had helped to create this thing, not realizing how dangerous it could be; kind of like, you know, the person who created the atom bomb, and, like, having that guilt. And so having Allura be part of the team that took Voltron out of the equation and now that weapon isn’t available to anyone, that was a big deal. We were told that was too sad.
[Hosts laugh]
KC: Uh, you broke chat. Alexis is in chat going, “*rocking back and forth, broken*”. Like, congratulations. Everyone, take a drink of your nonalcoholic beverage of choice.
MS: Oh that is-that is a line of gibberish that she typed.
KC: Oh yeah, no. Everyone’s just losing their noise, it’s great. I love it.
JDS: It was, you know, in a strange way I think, a beautiful sacrifice that Allura is allowed to make. And also really when you think about it, if it had to come down to any one person, she’s from, like, a logistical standpoint she’s the only one powerful enough and we’ve sort of through, you know, being a life-giver.
LM: So, we’ve had a lot of characters, like, who’ve been on, like, the death table. We’ve thrown them all out there at some point.
JDS: Right.
LM: But they all had to, kind of, get thrown out at a point in the story where it made sense that their death would have been worth it. Like, for Pidge, it would have been saving her family. Like if she had died to save her family. For Hunk, it would’ve been saving Earth, which almost happened. Um…
JDS: Hunk was, like, inches away.
[Hosts go “ohhh” and laugh]
LM: We got a yes, and then, like, you know, they were like, “Who’re you gonna replace him with?” And we were like, “A lady,” and then they said, “No.”
MS: Ohhhh.
KC: Would Romelle have been the pilot?
LM: It would have been, it was gonna be Acxa. Yeah, it was gonna be a redemption arc that takes place over this last season of, “It’s not about who you were, it’s about who you are,” and the fact that she’s done some bad things. But she truly believes in doing the right thing and moving forward and she could have been a viable part of that team.
JDS: But I-I also would argue that, like, there’s no--there wouldn’t have been enough time, I think, for everybody to, like, absorb that. If we had, like, a three season run at, like, bringing her in, getting her settled, and then having her, that would have made more sense.
LM: Yeah, that was a hesitation.
JDS: But Hunk’s was especially tragic, like, it was the moment where they were gonna--where they were taking robeast up and there was, like, that ticking time-bomb going off. He literally sees his family, but he’s never actually, like, interacted with them. So he only gets to look at them and see that they’re alive, and then he’s like, “I gotta get this thing out of here.” Sorry everybody!
LM: But he didn’t die! We didn’t kill anyone.
MS: And speaking of dark storylines, princesspony in the hashtag did some fanart of evil Chip.
JDS: Oh wow!
[laughter]
KC: They are very fast.
LM: World domination.
MS: Check out the hashtag #ABTVVoltron to check that out, it makes me very happy.
JDS: Are there red glowing eyes?
MS: No, it’s black and white, but he does look very happy.
LM: But Allura’s death was the only one that made sense from a power standpoint and even from a story standpoint that we were setting up with Honerva. And then also just on--I know, like, it’s probably gonna be highly contested--but on a feminist level from my standpoint, the-the man is always the one who gets to be the hero. Like Armageddon, Bruce Willis sacrifices himself to send, you know, friggin’ Ben Affleck back. And if-if basically Keith had gone like, “I’ll do it,” and then, you know, Allura had to stand on the sidelines and say, “Good thing Keith saved the day! I’m happy!” Like no. I want my women to be able to save the day, too, and even if it’s about making that ultimate sacrifice, if people want to interpret that as sexist, then that’s fine. But we’re just gonna have to agree to disagree.
KC: I mean, Keith tried to do the heroic sacrifice at one point and it didn’t work.
MS: They went, and you guys went, “No! Don’t do that!”
KC: Lotor was just like, “Excuse me.”
LM: We tried to kill Keith, though.
MS: This was--
LM: That’s not a lie.
MS: You guys apparently tried to kill everyone!
LM: We did. It was because we were told we couldn’t kill Shiro. Like, well, we don’t need two leaders, we’ll kill Keith. And they said, “You can’t do that.”
[Hosts laughing and sputtering]
JDS: Also by the way, we’re not kill-happy people. We’re not. We don’t kill for the sake of killing, like, there’s something--it’s a journey and there’s something meaningful, I think, to everybody’s death. And-and so when you even look at, like, melted Lotor corpse. Like, he basically had done to him what he had done to so many other people, so there’s, like, a sort of a give and a take there.
MS: And like a show where--I don’t want to rag on any other shows that skirt around death or anything like that, because again, they are writing for certain demographics--but I always appreciate when shows have, you know, actions have consequences. And sometimes character death is a really good way of conveying that. And I think for a lot of other people, people forget that Allura in season 1 is the same character that picked up Shiro, threw him out of a room right as the doors were closing, and basically could have died in that moment. She was sacrificing herself, so it’s not like this is out of character for her.
LM: Yeah, and Coran said, like, 15 different times, like, you know, “What about the risks? You could-you could not come back from this. If you give all your quintessence to the balmera, if you give all your quintessence to making this gigantic wormhole to transport Zarkon’s ship.”
JDS: “If you take the darkness into yourself.”
LM: And every time, she would say, like, “I know the risks.”
KC: Yolo.
[laughter]
MS: Until she walks into the west with the other elves.
KC: Or into the void with Honerva. I love that she had to do a hard reset on Honerva’s brain and then we could fix things. Like, she’s the only one that would have been able to do that in any capacity.
LM: Yeah.
JDS: Yeah, and it’s allowing Honerva to maybe experience the consequences that came as a result of her actions and really understand what those--
LM: It’s allowing her to get past, like, the cloud of all of the pain she’s felt, realize, like, remember the good things because sometimes you can get so bogged down with the negativity that you can forget what it was that you loved about a thing in the first place. And she was Altean and she loved discovery, she loved knowledge, and she-she reached out with Alfor and she helped multiple people before, you know, they started this quintessence project that kind of messed everything up. So she just kind of had to show--
JDS: She had hopes, she had dreams, she had heart.
LM: Yeah. At one point.
JDS: [quietly] At one point.
KC: Is there anything else that you--’cuz we’re hitting the end of our time--is there anything else you guys want to touch on now or should we save a few things for next week?
JDS: Uh, yeah, I mean, you know, look, we, I think, Lauren made a really good point in that, you know, sometimes you sort of lose sight of the good things for, you know, some of the negative things. We’d only hope that, you know, the sort of big post-mortem from the fandom at large-- even those that are super unhappy with the way season 8 turned out--sort of looks back on the series with positive feelings because I think there’s, while feelings might get hurt and feelings might--people might feel betrayed by, like, story decisions, like, the show was made with nothing but, like, love and good intentions and positivity and yes we told some hard stories to tell and characters came to certain conclusions that weren’t, like, the most popular decisions, but we were just trying to tell a story that, like, looked beyond the campiness and beyond the colorful robotic silliness to tell something that felt a bit more true and a bit more real and had, as one of our execs would always say, stakes and consequences.
LM: No, stakes and urgent stakes.
JDS: Stakes and urgent stakes.
LM: That was gonna be a restaurant.
KC: That’s one of Vrepit Sal’s new chains. It’s part of Hunk’s food empire. “Steaks and Urgency.”
JDS: But we can, you know, leave all the other stuff for our other show.
LM: Good times.
MS: Yeah, and princesspony has made a new version that’s got red eyes.
JDS: Ah! Red eyes! Red evil eyes!
KC: You asked for red eyes and in-chat they went, “I’ll add red eyes!” All for the red eyes. Well, yeah, thank you for joining us this week. This has been absolutely lovely. Are there any other projects you’re working on that you can tell us about?
JDS: No.
KC: Okay! NDAs it is!
LM: I am working on getting my floors re-done, and I’m getting the popcorn scraped off my ceilings, which is a lot more expensive than I realized it was gonna be. And-and moving all of my crap out of the house so that these people can do this work and that is a hell of a project that I would not wish on anyone.
JDS: And I just took a week off with my wife to Marie Kondo our entire house.
KC: Dang!
MS: Nice!
JDS: She didn’t come over or anything, but we definitely--
LM: Did you actually put it all in a pile?
JDS: She did with her clothes, and it was pretty epic, like, my pile went to your sister to eBay off, so that was. And my pile of toys.
LM: Oh, right, right.
JDS: Her sister is a sweet human being and like, will like, yeah. During the course of Voltron, during the production, like, super weighty dark times, I would just go on, like, eBay and be like, “buy, buy, buy, buy” and a pile of toys stacked up behind me that I never opened up.
LM: Yeah, me too. We had a cardboard box fort.
JDS: Yeah.
KC: Oh, goodness.
LM: And then he had a kid and said, “Oh no, I don’t need all this stuff.”
KC: And return to sender.
JDS: Yeah.
KC: Sounds fun.
MS: eBay.
KC: Where can the people go on social media if they would like to keep up with you?
LM: Um, all of the same places: @artofLaurenM on Twitter, @thebestlaurenmontgomery on Instagram, though I will say the Voltron posts are kind of over at this point. So maybe don’t follow me now if you’re just coming for Voltron. You’ll probably be a little disappointed.
JDS: Same for me. Um, @jds_247 on something and @jds_77 on the other thing. There you go. Underscore in between those. Sorry.
KC: So I’m gonna follow you guys now for Voltron. [laughter] No, no!
JDS: That’s fine!
LM: But if you like any of my other artwork, you’re more than welcome to stay.
KC: I like all of your other artwork.
MS: It’s so pretty!
KC: Alright, thanks again for coming, you guys.
JDS: Thanks for having us, you guys have been awesome this entire time.
LM: And we’ll be back next week.
JDS: That’s right.
KC: Yes we will! I was gonna save that announcement for a little bit. Uh, Megan, where can people find you?
MS: You guys can follow me on Instagram and Twitter at @themenguin. I was gonna say, I wanted to give a quick shoutout to Mark and Emma and Alexis who all were wearing the hashtag tonight. We miss you guys and we love you and we’ll be seeing you soon!
KC: And on the live chat in Alexis’ case.
MS: Love you, Alexis!

Barcelona FC? get back to me on this ahahah) He wore the number 7, believing it always brought luck to him and his family. kylie’s mom was just a normal girl who worked in a dress shop, sewing together sweet 15/16 dresses, which she really enjoyed and was good at. her mom’s family had a business and all the women in the family ran that little shop bc they made sure things ran smoothly. kylie’s parents met unexpectedly in a bar when her dad didn’t want to be noticed and her mom was out on the town with her friends. this turned into a fan marrying her idol sort of thing. it was super cute.
kylie’s dad got chosen to be a part of the US soccer team, this was after he was dating her mom for about a year. before he could leave he didn’t even realize that lupe (ky’s mom) was pregnant with her older sibling jaime. that led to a quick marriage BUT lupe didn’t want to leave mexico just yet SOOO while her dad went off to the states, her mom stayed in mexico working on her business and it worked out really well for the two.
two years later, after 2 years of a long distant relationship and the family dress business blowing up in Mexico, turning into a whole fashion empire, lupe finally decided to pack up and go to the U.S.A
along came kylie
kylie was the first born in the U.S.A, so she is american but she frequently travelled to Mexico during her childhood, therefore she understands both english and spanish. she is 100% proud of her ethnicity no matter how much hate she got for it growing up.
kylie was always closest to her dad, he taught her how to have thick skin and go for your dreams. every night they would play soccer on the streets and he pushed her to be better. Kylie was on several soccer teams growing up, and has a lot of photos, awards, and memories to prove it. all her siblings were in some kind of sport. kylie’s was soccer while her siblings would be volleyball or basketball. they were known on the block as the golden 3 for being involved in sports.
it didn’t mean she was a tomboy, oh no. while her dad taught her sports, her mom taught her how to be presentable. she would always say ‘let them judge you by what you wear so you can prove them wrong with who you are.’ those are words she lives by everyday when it comes to her appearance.
her parents really taught her the value of working for what you want, even when kylie did grow up comfortable. her mom’s business was growing so much it was known in chicago and some other parts in the U.S. her dad was known for being one of the best soccer players coming out of latin america (up there with ronaldinho), but they both got to where they were through blood sweat and tears.
on her down time she got really into makeup and fashion, she did it a lot for prom season, posting it up on insta that some celebs hit her up to do their makeup and of course she couldn’t say no to that. kylie makes her own makeup out of natural ingredients that she uses with her clients, it’s something she doesn’t sell exclusively, it’s her best kept secret.
she’s really popular within the latin american music scene and has done some collabs with english speaking people. those are just passion projects for her. it’s like, she’s known for different things, so she does them, but she’s not sure what she wants specifically.
since she’s tiny, people tend to make fun of her height A LOT, which she doesn’t mind, it pretty funny to her. it’s just something that’s been with her foreverrrrrr.
kylie still plays soccer in a league on her free time. it’s something that keeps her mentally grounded.
life isn’t so perfect * TRIGGER WARNINGS: anxiety, depression *
so being mexican in the U.S.A is never easy, and it definitely wasn’t for kylie that didn’t speak english until she entered school. she was constantly bullied and pushed around because of her ethnicity, because she was tan, unlike the other girls.
of course she made other friends of color and non-color that accepted her but when you grow up seeing that there are people that hate you for what you’re born into, it damages a person.
for a long time she didn’t accept her body image, trying to lighten her skin or make herself look more accepting, it caused her to spiral into depression, she had a lot of fights with her family about this.
kylie developed anxiety where she overthinks and gets panic attacks, but thats why she still plays soccer competitively.
kylie’s personality
kylie is literally F I E R C E. she’s got two types of personalities, one where she’s a home body and loves her family, will beat you in a quick game of soccer. she’s that bubbly girl with the laughter, sarcastic remarks followed by a smirk at the end of it
BUT
she is also that girl that when it’s time to work, she is scary. she knows what she wants, she know how she wants it and she will get flustered when it’s not like that. she’s got a whole ‘that BIIITCH’ personality, like when she’s on the red carpet, she just has it going for her kind of thing.
but she’s a goof, and that’s something everyone will notice. she loves to make people laugh and smile. if you’re an asshole, those are her favorite types where she’s just drawn to those people.
connections?
old school friends
old school enemies
makeup clientele
squad?
ride or die
drunk friends
sibling like friends
exes ( good + bad + messy + angsty )
crushes ?
former lovers to friends
um, anything? let’s brainstorm ! :)

Brave the Tempest: Sample Thoughts
They’re here!  Man I tried every perceivable combo of words to find the URL for the chapters and missed what it really was (yes I’m a huge nerd and will dig and dig when I’m obsessed or bored, which is always). Ah well.
First thoughts: I liked that Cassie gets a relatively quiet moment with her court out shopping.  Everyone in that court needs a few quiet moments and some normalcy.  It looks like we’ve finally made it to September.  I’d been hoping for a longer time jump, like October (Halloween in the Chanceverse!) but I’m not going to complain overly much until we see what has been happening behind the scenes a little more.  The chapters were scant on details in that regard.
What they weren’t scant on were names and more details about Cassie’s court and new friends/protectors!  We find out about some of her young initiates, Hilde, and the pink haired witch.  YES!  I love that we are getting more details about these newbies.  Also we got a new Cassie t-shirt for the collection.  It’s very apt, as always.
Mircea was mentioned, but not as a lover or the like, for the first time ever.  There was much happy dancing over here.  That doesn’t mean much, necessarily.  But nothing written about him was in a positive light.  It makes my Casskin heart happy.
Unfortunately, Pritkin didn’t feature in the lover category either.  Though, his mention was in a much more positive light than Mircea’s.  She thinks on Pritkin very fondly.  Still, his absence was noticeable.  It makes me wonder if these will necessarily be opening chapters or chapters 3 or 4 instead of 1 or 2.  Maybe the real openers explains where he is.  I want to saw KC has done this before with other books, not given us the real opening chapters but slightly later ones (Ride the Storm maybe?).
The second chapter opens up with more action and hints of Cassie’s, Hilde’s and Pink Hair’s powers.  I’m glad Cassie has finally gotten more help.  She did just fine on her own, but she doesn’t have to be alone anymore and that’s a wonderful thing.
Overall thought, I hope we see some development for Cassie/Pritkin in the book early and often.  We just went through 3 books getting him back and literal hell for him.  I want to see some pay dirt! I also want to see Cassie continue to break away from the Senate’s hold, specifically Mircea’s, and continue to establish herself as an independent Pythia.  She’s well on her way to finding her own voice and recognizing her personal strength, but she has a ways to go yet.  She’s going to have some practice within her own court it seems, I think that will be a good thing for her, if a little hard at first.  More than anything, I wish to not be heart broken at the end of this one!  I know it’s a Karen Chance book, a little heart break is expected.  Hell I would be disappointed without it, but still.  I want to see the end game of Cassie and her chosen family happy, whole, and healthy.
Oh finally, no Cassie/Pritkin baby where they repeat all of their parents’ mistakes.  I know that was a popular fan theory last year, but I don’t want to see that.  It just makes me sad to think that they would do the same thing for their child that their parents did to them.  Their kid deserves better.
The end (for now).

youtube
Katie gets VERY candid (kudos to tv echo over at previouslytv arrow forum for transcribing majority of the video)
On working on Arrow and the Arrowverse, KC: "It's been pretty amazing, ever since the pilot. our writers, producers, they've been pretty awesome. They, um - for me, specifically, you know, they've written my character very well. Then they have - by the way, spoiler alert - uh, not written my character very well. Season 4. Episode 19? Is it 419? (Pauses) Nobody knows. Okay, good, we'll keep it like that. And then they bring the character back. (Laughs) And they start writing for you again. So it's awesome."
On whether Sara and Earth-2 Laurel will ever meet, KC: "Interesting. I've actually brought this up to our showrunner, Marc Guggenheim, because when I was doing research and back story for Black Siren, I specifically asked, 'Is there a world on which Black Siren will meet Sara and/or Laurel Earth-1? And if so, what does that look like?' And he just said, 'Interesting.' Dot, dot, dot. So, I feel like that's more like, stay tuned, and we'll see how that turns out. (Laughs) So I definitely think there's a world in which they play that out, and we'll see what happens. It'd be pretty crazy."
On how the BC/BS Canary Cry is shot, KC: "In silence, atually. I'm not kidding. When I first started doing the Canary Cry and they had me bring it to screen, I was really stressed out about the fact that I would be screaming a - like, probably quite loud. And also in the middle of the night in downtown Vancouver, shooting outside. People, I don't know, they may not realize we're shooting a TV show and I'm playing the character whose scream could kill someone. Or at least damage their ear drums. So I just literally did it without a sound. So imagine just a 'haah' sound. And that's been sort of the way whoever's come after me has sort of handled the whole situation. Because we would also really love to continue having a voice to be able to work days after. Uh, and if you're screaming at the top of your lungs, chances are - yeah, I would not have been able to speak or shoot other scenes. So - it's kinda in silence. It's fun, though. It's awesome. She's amazing."
On whether she prefers to play BC or BS, KC: "I like my job. (Laughs) I can't answer that... I love playing both characters. They've been really fun. Very challenging, very different, although obviously similar. So it's been tricky, but I'm having a blast and I'm very grateful."
On how she felt when she found out about Laurel's death, KC: "Well, I cried, to be honest with you. I was, you know, obviously sad... It's so funny, we start the season, Season 4, and I'd been roommates with Danielle Panabaker and Caity Lotz - not at the same time, different times - Danielle, then Caity, and now Danielle again - and at the time, I was roommates with Danielle. And it was the beginning of Season 4 and I remember her asking me - and I think I mentioned this yesterday - and she had said, 'ooh, what if you're in the grave?' I remember looking at her and being like, 'I don't even know if anybody's in the grave. This is television. Maybe there's no one in the grave. Who knows?' No. And then yes, cut to February and getting a phone call that Marc and Wendy wanted to have lunch to discuss things. And I'm like, 'oh crap, I'm in the grave.' ... It sucked, but it happens. I understood from a writing perspective, you know, producer's perspective, because it's a platform for all the other main characters, the storyline, driving them in different directions. And I'm really glad they brought me back. I'm having fun."
On what she would change about E1 Laurel's death, if she could change one thing, KC: "Well, it was (makes frustrated noise) too simple! In my opinion, at least. She just got - out of nowhere, just like got stabbed and then what. And I also - she was alive and then all of a sudden had a seizure and wasn't.... Just that it would make a little bit more sense, I think. Or have a little bit more merit to it. Um, however, having said that, I still - I think they've done a good job so far and hopefully they continue to do so."
When asked in what way she relates most to Laurel, KC: "Laurel is very dedicated, and she's a fighter. I think that also comes along with being stubborn. I think those are some qualities that I definitely can relate to."
On what it's like to work alongside Caity Lotz, KC: "She is awesome. She's awesome. We were actually - we're so lucky. You know, I started with the pilot and then learning that they were bringing my sister back was great. But, you know, as an actor, you never really know, you know, where, who you're going to end up having to spend 90% of your time with. But we were really, really fortunate. Our cast - not only are they really good actors, but they are incredibly good people. And Caity Lotz is a huge testament to that. So is Danielle Panabaker. Everyone has been - you know, especially for the females - like I said, Shethority, that's where it all comes from. We support one another and stand up for one another, and I think that's really important. And she's a badass chick... and I'm proud of her, honestly."
(Fan question was not in video) KC: "I wish that I had had a little more of that, um, Million Dollar Baby moment. Of transitioning from, you know, Laurel into - she hits rock bottom - into the superhero... I just remember that I was just very much looking forward to that whole transition, and I put so much effort in it, time and dedication to it, physically. I do wish they would've played that out a little more.  But I'm still very fortunate and very happy with the way they went with everything."
On whether it was difficult to switch to evil E2 Laurel, KC: "I'm going to be very clear, very upfront about this question. Actually, no. It wasn't hard to. I was kinda mad. They killed my character off. So it was like, 'Okay, you want me to come back? And you want me to be mean? [Unintelligible words], you guys? Okay. That's no problem.' ... It was easy for me to channel that, you know, frustration. As I'm sure, we all can relate. You know, it's a job, a job, a job happens and sometimes - whether it be they decide to let go of the character or position or whatever it might be, it kinda sucks to be on the other end. But it's reality and you just have to rise above it... By the way, thank you to everyone who supported me throughout this whole getting killed off, being brought back - cause I actually do, I think it's been - I think you guys have a huge influence... Uh, I certainly owe a lot - most of it to you. The support was pretty unbelievable and you guys have been pretty unbelievable. So thank you. And thank you for continuing to support me."
On whether Black Siren will join Team Arrow, KC: "Ooh, I hope so. I feel like that would sort of - you know, she's a bit of a loose cannon. It would sort of mix things up a bit. But who knows? You gotta keep watching."
On what she thinks is the best part of playing BC, KC: "I think the journey that she's been through... Well, obviously Laurel. But whether it be Caity, myself, Juliana, I think we all have a certain interpretation. For me, it was - she's a fighter. And she rises above. Uh, she shall overcome is sort of what innately comes to me. And that's strength and female empowerment, uh, equality, you know, all these things come to my mind when I - as my interpretation of Black Canary. And I'm sure Caity Lotz and Juliana - they probably have other things that, you know, what it means to them. For each of us, it's probably different. But - a hero, you know."
On whether she'd ever want to travel with the Legends, KC: "Yeah! That sounds awesome... I want to travel the world. In all times."
On whether she read about BC in the comics, KC: "I did start reading 'em when my character, from Season 2 to Season 3, uh, was transitioning, but I didn't read - a lot of people asked me if I read them ahead of time. But it's actually very difficult for me as an individual to even do that when it comes to our episodes and our scripts. I wait until we finish shooting the episode we're currently on. Um, just for me, storywise, and a person, it's better to live in the moment and not take on too much, before I'm ready. So it wasn't until my character actually transitioned that I started doing research on the actual comic books and the actual comic book character in depth."
When asked about her favorite things about E1 Laurel and E2 Laurel, KC: "I like Earth-1 Laurel - well, I think all of it, all in all, I feel like, the fighting aspect. I think she's a fighter. Heart of gold. And I find that to be the similarity between Earth-1 and Earth-2... I think they are both fighters. In different ways. They've had different lives. On different Earths... They're survivors. And they've both been through a lot. And again it's that the same aspect of she shall - we shall overcome."

Just as I predicted Julie Plec did something to try to squash and diminish the Klaroline fandoms anger towards her over killing Klaus. When she released that KC deleted scene.  Even though I don’t know why they would be happy with that scene considering that it was a conversation about Cami.
But, some think that it was done to please KC Stans or give them something in place of killing Klaus, even some bragging about how they bullied the show into releasing that deleted scene.
For whatever reason it was done my point still stands.  Plec is receiving all sorts of personal hate, name calling, and nasty verbal backlash from KC Stans in her mentions.  To the point of some even threatening to physically harm her and yet is she going to come out and call them rabid like she did towards Bonnie fans.
Julie Plec can’t pretend to go with the excuse of  just defending herself against Bonnie fans and Bonnie shippers who were “bullying” her, making personal attacks against her, or taking shipping too seriously where a line is  crossed into harassment against the writers of the show.
Since she puts up with it from DE Stans and KC Stans long enough to bait them in the last season of TO.  It was always about Julie Plec being a white feminist and not liking herself being called out for her racist, belittling, demeaning writing for Bonnie.  Then how she didn’t like facing the fact that she loves to mistreat Bonnie due to her racism and resentment towards the one black woman on the show.
“Rabid” was just coded language for her.  As she always has the energy against Bonnie shippers that she never has towards her white most popular ships.
Not surprising that Plec played the KC fandom like a fiddle though,  Everyone could see them just being baited and Klaus dying from a mile away.  As I said don’t know why someone would put their full faith and trust in Julie Plec in 2018.
DE is her prized ship where as she said just enough and did just enough about KC to keep their fandom invested.  Then used it to bait them into watching the last season.  Once she had succeeded she had no problems throwing them to the side when she said she couldn’t do KC because it would be a dishonor to Stefan.
Feels like she doesn’t need the KC fandom for bait anymore since TO is overwith and since she has gone back to focusing on catering to the Delena fandom with giving them hope that she will give them crumbs in Legacies with DE mentions or having DE kids make an appearance.
The same woman who had DE have sex very shortly after SE broke up, says that she couldn’t dishonor Stefan by doing KC. So it is obvious what her must prized ship is.
No more self insert with Caroline, so go back to living through Nian by telling herself that DE is off and married with kids. lol

Klaroline Fic Rec - Day Seven
Klaroline Fic Rec Event 2020 - Day 7: Free For All Title: The Birth and Death of the Day  Author: @little-miss-sunny-daisy Summary:  AU. The Forbes-Winchester family takes on the Apocalypse. Warnings: Angst that will make you weep like a angel. Some NSFW scenes that will have you heading for a cold shower. Status: READ MY LIPS: COMPLETE!!!
Why you should read it:
I have lost count of how many posts I've made about this fic before, and I swore to myself that I would only rec stories that I hadn't previously written about, but seeing as this one has been gloriously COMPLETED, I think I have to.
When I started reading The Birth and Death of the Day, it was sitting on a six years hiatus. I did not expect to ever see it being completed, and that was FINE, because I had such a great time reading it that I was just happy to have found it. Guys... You don't know the emotions I felt reading the final two chapters! SUCH MIXED FEELINGS! I was so happy to see that <i>The End</i> there, but so sad to say goodbye (spoiler: THERE WILL BE SEQUELS! 🙌).
Birth (I can call it Birth, right? Me and this fic, we're like close friends now) is SUCH a wild journey. I came for the Klaroline factor, I stayed fo SO much more. In the end, even though the KC here is delicious, this isn't a KC fic. It's a story about Caroline, first and foremost. And it's an incredible to ride to be with her on it as she goes through so many transformations, figuring herself out through family bonds, tragedy, friendship and - yes, insane amounts of mind-blowing sex with my boy Klausy.
You absolutely do not need to have watched or even understand a single thing about Supernatural in order to read this. I didn't. I know the main characters' faces and that's pretty much it. What @little-miss-sunny-daisy does here in building up this world where Supernatural and TVD clash is BRILLIANT. I found myself caring deeply for characters that were one notch beyond OCs. Caroline's relationship with her big brothers is so sweet and so heartwarming. Sam and Dean are completely different, but both of them are fantastic on their roles as protective big step-bros. And Dean! Holy crap! Final chapters!Dean is like MY FAVORITE! I was SCREAMING with certain scenes and certain conversations here. I cannot sing enough praise to how much I loved all this. Also kudos to Castiel and Gabriel! lol Every time they showed it was guaranteed awesomeness. 👌
I cannot put into words how much I love Caroline here. She is every bit the Caroline I love and worship in my heart (but that canon unfortunately tore apart after season 5). She is strong and brave and very much her own, independent person, but not without her vulnerabilities and insecurities, which is inherent to someone her age. ALSO! This story has a fantastic depiction of female friendship between Caroline, Bonnie and Elena which I love TO BITS! 💜💜
And Klaus. HOLY MOTHER OF SWEET BABY JESUS, Klaus. He's a psycho, he's dangerous, he's short-fused, he's unpredictable. He's the Original Hybrid and you should FEAR him. He blows up and SHIT HAPPENS. But he's so, so soft for Caroline and there are some moments here that legit had me SWOONING and if this is not how Klaus is absolutely MEANT TO BE then I REFUTE IT! The final chapters have some RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING moments of Klausy losing his shit, which is, honestly, all that I'm here for.
@little-miss-sunny-daisy does a brilliant job of addressing trauma and grief and loss here. There are lots of angsty moments, but they are powerful, they pack a real punch and the process of healing is so thoughtful and so delicate. I love that things aren't just brushed away like breadcrumbs and suddenly everyone is moving on. Some of my favorites moments were precisely thos hurt/comfort bits that had characters addressing their pain and seeking refuge.
Other than that, it's beautiful, poetic and powerful writing, with amazing dialogue, full of banter and wittiness and perfect character voices, and absolutely delicious interactions in a well-crafted plotty AU world full of angels and devils and demons (not to mention vampires and hybrids). It's one of the best ever universes I've read and I am a total fan. This story is one of by absolute all-time favorites and I just know that I will be coming back to read it again over and over. @little-miss-sunny-daisy has the kind of talent for writing that makes you inspired. It's brilliant.
Thank you so much for finishing this! 💜💜 We owe you forever!

And SPEAKING OF BEING IN A BETTER MOOD, MY LOVELY ANON REVIEWER IS BACK:
Coming back to this story is like coming back hooooomeeeee, I missed these fuckers. Not surprisingly, canon KC/Originals make me want to cry because of all the unused potential. I will probably have trust issues from now on, so, if I end up dying alone surrounded by dozen golden retrievers, Plec is to blame. That is one of the (many) reasons I love your work so much (not only this ofc, but also your Originals series) - because THIS is how it should have been done. Everyone's human in this one, but it's still 100000 more IC than all of TO. First of all, I feel like I mentioned this a hundred times, but YOUR WRITING SKILLZ MAN. How do you write such pretty words, sorceress? Some sentences, especially ones relating to Klaus made me tear up a bit, not gonna lie. I'm not even sure why, they just describe him in a way that shows that yes, he's a monster and not a good human being, but looook there's something more to him. And in a way that's not over the top or anything like that. For example: "There's this whole aura about him; you can't break it. The pickpockets who eye him turn aside; the beggars are immediately off in quest of other marks; he doesn't even have to look at them." "But, see, what pisses her off most: he looks so happy, just to be walking next to her." And I love how Caroline is the one who sees something more, their dynamic and his enourmous crush on her is SO MUCH FUN TO READ ABOUT. I'm so happy there is Klaus-Enzo banter, I guess they don't like each other in any universe, and that's just how it's supposed to be. I like how Klaus stills adores horses, that scene where we see that he fills his pockets with bits of apple and carrots tugged at my heartstrings, and also a scene with the potato man, where he spent the entire show looking at Caroline because she was happy and smiling and that made him happy and smiley (I just love Klaus a lot, okay). But of course, the scene where he kills a man in cold blood and tortures him a little bit beforehand, accompanied with a witty remark, is why I truly love that murderous psychopath (see TO!Klaus, even human!Klaus is way more badass than you, you pathetic asshole). I am very happy that he is still a shitty poet, because what is Klaus without his awful poetry? A miserable excuse of a man, that's what he is. (I still giggle every time I remember bears and their pears) Caroline is still the biggest sweetheart/genious/my personal idol and who I wanna be when I grow up. Her friendship with Kol is so precious and I wish I had a friend like that (that little note that said : You are my favorite human, MY HEART). Their banter is so fun and I can't wait for Tim to realise his love for Kol and joins their team (I mean, he's already kind of done all of that). And BBY TIM. I love how he's a badass person who will not hesitate to shoot a person in the face if they touch his boyfriend, but he's also scared shitless of Caroline: "Tim bumped it." "What? I did not," Tim insists, with a touch of panic in his voice. Well, that's what you get when you don't follow Caroline's orders. Just a little sidenote - Kol really hit Stefan Salvatore with a smoke rocket of some kind, with no hesitation, like the bad bitch he is. Now, if that's not the best thing I ever read I don't know what is. More of that, please. *insert it's what she deserves kim kardashian gif* One more line, which is probably my favorite in this part is: "She has never laid her heart at the feeet of golden idols; but she has set it before every friend in all its raw and childlike wonder." If that doesn't sum up Caroline Forbes in one sentence I don't know what does, aand now I'm crying because she deserves the world. I'm so intrigued by this story and I can't wait to see how it resolves.
HI. I LOVE YOU.

Is it weird that I watch gay porn with straight guys fucking each other and gay transmen getting fucked too?
It's like when I watch a guy with a big, plump white or black ass, with some oil and hair on top of it....
I lowkey start thinking about fucking his ass too?
I lowkey find it strange, but then again I'm pan...
Asses look good on anyone. Even though I would never admit some objectifying shit like that in person.
It's like I immerse my clit as the dick that's getting sucked and fucked on.
Then I cancel out after I cum 🤣😇🥲
Lol like wtfff is wrong with me guys? I mean there are guys who like to get pegged, so I wonder do these women who strap on guys, think about the same thing that I do....
I feel really guilty because I keep saying idk if I'm ready to try dating another bisexual guy or another transman because of me getting heart broken by one.
But I still miss em' despite everything. It's just on and off, I hate you, I miss you....just like our relationship....
It was hot and cold with those 2 toxic mfs.😕
I just wanna have my chance to dominate a guy and get fucked rough and deep. Man or Woman and everyone else under the rainbow too.
I know most pansexuals will say that they don't have a gender preference, but I'm slowly starting to see where my eye keeps getting drawn to the most. And I think it has something to do with the people I messed with already.
I still miss them and maybe I shouldn't overthink it.
But it is disturbing how I keep swiping right on white guys and girls or even mixed chicks that look like Jay either as their nonbinary stage with light brown curly hair Upton, or their pre-trans stage with long curly hair or straight hair. It's the big cat nose, the eyes, the Eyebrows, the glasses, and of course the jawline and the lips, and the strong lip Bridge, all with a soft face, chubby, and the soft white skin and ass.
It's not that many out there that remind me of them, but I've talked to a few smart asses, just like them, that was a pretty close call for me. Cause Jay was pretty. I just want to keep all the good qualities about them, and take out all the bad, the mental trauma, the abusive behavior, and just have a nicer, quiet, less selfish version of Jay who actually smiles and not mean and cranky all the time.
I did match with one who's name was Ryan. And he had the soft round face, light brown curly hair, and the nose, and the lips. I was so freaking close we just clicked right off the bat and had sexted each other on snap. We were so freaking horny and excited. He was really enamored with my boobs in my bikini pic so I sent him those and he kept sending me his luscious pink dick. I haven't had real dick in a longgggg time like not since 2020, it was my ex, and I gave him head.
I still like strap.on too. Don't get me wrong.
But anywho Ryan's Canadian kept saying he wanted to come to America once the border opened back up to take me out to dinner and I said yeaaa I would so be into.fucking you in the bathroom, cause I love public sex. And this was before we started. I made sure to ask are you really coming or is this an online setting thing?
He said no, I really wanna give you this white dick in your mouth.
So I was even more turned on. We kept going snapping pictures. He wanted ass and titty pics. And then he sends me stuff of his dick getting harder and harder which I liked. He said he was 7 in....holy fuck. Wayyyy bigger than my ex Terrell.
But then when I sent ooh I want it on my clit, he stops answering after his last message was oh you want me to rub your clit. And then he goes I came so hard.
He left, yall....while I was still masturbating to this Wigga wtffff?
I even sent a question mark ❓like hellooo selfish ass what about me????
I check back on my phone and the snap I sent was still on delivered and it was 2hrs ago...
I see he posted a story...
I OPEN IT TO SEE HIM POST A VIDEO OF HIS FREAKING CAT JUST POSING ON HIS BED
AND THIS WAS ONE HOUR AFTER I SENT HIM MINE SHIT...
LIKE WOWWWW I HATE BEING PLAYED AND I HATE BEING IGNORED ESPECIALLY WHEN IM BUTTASS NAKED WAITING ON YOU TO TELL ME TO POKE IT OUT FOR DADDY MORE WTFFFFFFFFFFF
Rude ass, inconsiderate bitch.
So you know what, I checked to see when the Canadian border opens back up, it said August 8th.
BITCH THEY ALREADY OPENNN WITH YO LYING ASS!!! WHY EVEN LIE TO SAY YOU COMING???
WE COULD HAVE JUST HAD PHONE SEXXXX
Last message he got from me before I unfriended him on snap right after I saw red flag 1, ignoring me to post a cat video....#2 Canada border actually is open..
I said "Fine, I understand. I'll unadd you."
That's so.fucking selfish, I helped you cum, so help me finish idiot! That's exactly the shit I won't tolerate no more. Waiting on bitches to text me back when it's obvious they don't care, trying to be ms. Nice girl and give him 3 days....nooooooo
I ain't falling for that shit no more. I'm glad I unmatched his ass too right after.
Pissed me the fuck off, I started having flashbacks of when Jay and Terrell did that shit to me, ignoring texts and pushing me away, not giving a fuck about plans we both already agreed to. Blowing me off like I'm the idiot, I'm the sweet child that will always love them no matter how rude, impulsive, and impossibly disrespectful they were.
The 1st time I had phone sex with Jay, Jay cums and then I said what about me? Jay goes "just take a cold shower. I don't care if you cum"
I was so mortified at how cold, rude, selfish and disrespectful Jay was. Jay said the only person they care about Cumming is Ayunna. And this was wayyy earlier on before they actually did start caring if I came or not...but still that's shitty and poor etiquette.
Just like the real shitty version of Jay. That frugal McDooggle used me and lied to me.
He didn't give a fuck just like they didn't. It made me cry a little cause I was really looking forward to some dick with somebody that at least was chubby, white, and soft like Jay. And he had blue light eyes. I still like Jay's sandy brown eyes tho.
It just sucked....and yea you really shouldn't expect respect from an internet hoe like Ryan.
Kiss my ass Ryan, you'll never taste this ass and titties.
These H's are mine I tell you! Fuck yoooooouuuu.
I will admit, there was this girl by the name of KC, she doesn't seem as interested, but we talked on snap after matching on okc. She likes to read Stephen King books. So I asked her what are you reading now, cause I like smart girls like that. She said it's called The Stand. Talking about a virus that infects the world. It was nice to read that 1st chapter and connect with the character, Stu, who dealt with grief from his wife and mom who both had cancer. I started thinking about Grandma alot tho 😔 in not the most happy sense. The scene felt dark like as if more is to come.
I wonder did Stephen King lose somebody to cancer or was he feeling sick himself. It's got 56 chapters and I did say I would try reading it more. Thank God they had the 1st part of the book on Google preview.
I'm the type to dive in when I meet someone new. I like figuring them out. But so far, I noticed she hasn't texted me back with questions and stuff as much so she's really dry and probably still not sure what she wants rn...she said she's just going with the flow but I think it's a sign she's lonely but wants to see what's outside 1st before she leaves the safety of her world.
She works in retail too at a grocery store. So we connected a bit on that too. It's weird when I'm the more talkative one asking all the questions....thats not a good sign. Ppl who are interested in you, ask you stuff they wanna know too. And I did step back to give her chances to step in....so yea imma keep looking on tinder and okc.

Can you direct me to a good way to get up to speed with The Originals while being able to skip the gross parts featuring Hailey? And... pretty much everyone else that isn't Klaroline?
Okay so @klarolinemag does these recaps for TO that you can find here. They’re obviously quite biased because they’re written by well… Klaroline shippers so, if you ship KC you’ll probably enjoy them. They also comply twitter reactions from each episode but I’m not sure if those were just for TVD.
The wikia pages for each season give you a good concise breakdown of each of the season in chapters which describe the events that took place.
Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 4
I’ve compiled a list of all Klaroline/Caroline/The Originals related scenes that occurred since The Originals was announced. Below that, you can find a summary of the back story to the Originals.
Here are all the Klaroline bits that have occurred since The Originals began.

Not sure you’re going to want to watch this one but in 4 x16 before Klaus and Hayley have sex Hayley requests that Klaus free Tyler in return for giving up more of Katherine’s secrets. When he refuses she says that she’ll never get her chance with Tyler just like Klaus will never get his chance with Caroline, then they sleep together which leads to the plot of The Originals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJn1iW_gmYc&ab_channel=ElenaDamian
Klaus calls Caroline in 4x20 (The Originals backdoor pilot) and tells her how much he loves New Orleans and how much he wishes she were there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kE9lIyLvB24

In 4x22 When Klaus turns up at Carolines graduation to save her at her request, they are chatting afterward and he mentions that he was going to suggest that she go with him to New Orleans but instead he tells her Tyler is free because he understands she’s not ready to accept his offer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qooZQ4-mHtk&ab_channel=AddySaganty
In 5x05 Caroline and Tyler discuss how Tyler’s only back because Klaus allowed him to be back (Caroline asks “So this is about Klaus”) and Caroline gets mad because he chooses revenge over here so they break up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Npo9-kAiMfg&ab_channel=ForwoodTV / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4XqElqM2D8&ab_channel=ForwoodTV
In 1x07 The Originals crossover episode, Tyler comes back to take revenge on Klaus and Hayley after what happened to his mother - and his life in general. When Klaus and Elijah are discussing what could have happened to make Tyler so mad Klaus says Tyler is angry because he went after his girl (Caroline): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASNAdjGFdKg&ab_channel=jmsg411
In the same episode, Tyler and Klaus get into a physical altercation and Klaus taunts Tyler saying Caroline would be ashamed if she could see him now to which Tyler responds that Caroline will never love him (Klaus): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZX3lT__n_Bc
In 5x11 the crossover episode of TVD Klaus turns up to gloat over Katherine’s death, instead, he forgoes doing that to win Caroline’s favor. They also discuss her breakup with Tyler. He asks her to be honest about her feelings toward him and she does in exchange for him leaving MF (to go to NOLA) and never return. They have sex: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkjcWomc1Uw
After this ^ episode of TVD in episode 1x12 of TO Marcel comments on the good mood Klaus in and says he should visit New Orleans more often and Klaus smirks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqz8NhGmJgo&ab_channel=IvetaBene%C5%A1ov%C3%A1

Caroline later talks with Stefan about sleeping with Klaus and he assures he she’s not a horrible person and they discuss Klaus and Katherine respectively: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4heDog5SX4
In 5x15 of TVD the MF gang figure out Elena is actually Katherine and Tyler  voices out loud that that’s how he over heard the conversation about her (Caroline) having sex with Klaus because Katherine set it up that way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SN3c-HOeQvE&ab_channel=ForwoodTV
Caroline talks to Tyler about how she saw the good in Klaus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEaO3pfeu3Q&ab_channel=ForwoodTV

In 5x16 Damon tell Elena Caroline and Klaus slept together
When Enzo meets Caroline in 5x17 he tells her that Damon mentioned that she has a thing for men with accents (hinting towards Klaus): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqV1mQb4bqM&t=1s&ab_channel=DDR1610
Enzo also says: “From what Damon tells me I am your type… well traveled, charming accent, dogdy morals-” and then Caroline adds on and says “Totally tactless, completely unable to take a hint,” again hinting at Klaus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWParoDpRkw&ab_channel=Bombonrosa
In 2x07 of the Originals, Klaus’ biological father is resurrected and they talk. Ansel talks about how he watched Klaus from the other side and mentions Caroline but this line was cut from the scene. Ansel was supposed to say: “I saw you happy from the other side, painting, traveling, dancing with the blonde in Mystic Falls.“
In 7x13 Matt tells Caroline to flee MF with the twins and while in the car one of the twins asks Caroline where they’re going and she says “To New Orleans to visit mommy’s friend”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XG0fl_FGcmU&ab_channel=TheVampireDiariesHD
In 7x14 of TVD and 3x14 of TO which are both crossover episodes, Stefan comes to NOLA to hide and Klaus asks about Caroline: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4ewpzhCmoY
He also told him to stop being oblivious to the fact that Caroline actually wanted to keep her twins. (he also sarcastically says giving up something she loves does sound like the Caroline he - Klaus - remembers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_hqEIbJGmU&ab_channel=ChasingScenes
When he sees the Huntress’ mark on Stefan he’s ready to kick him out of NOLA because technically Stefan is  danger to his whole family but he gets a phone call from Caroline and literally commits to protecting him just to keep her happy. he also confronts her fears about her love for the twins and brings up her speech to him from TVD 5x11: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPDbLyykwRM&ab_channel=Klaroline

In that same episode, there a flash forward of Caroline taking the twins now 5 years old) to New Orleans to keep them safe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XiAvppjyMA&ab_channel=Klaroline
I should also note that in 3x14 of TO when Elijah and Finn go to Mystic Falls Klaus doesn’t come thus keeping his promise to Caroline it’s not specifically mentioned but still poignant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjsrhRyu4ns&ab_channel=TheOriginalsOZ
In 7x21 Caroline tells Stefan she was desperate for help so had to go and find Klaus (because Stefan was too busy on holiday for 3 years) and that Klaus was nowhere to be found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxeeJs0py90
In 8x16 the TVD series finale Alaric’s voice over and Caroline’s flash forward reveals Klaus has sent Caroline a letter and a donation toward her school. Alaric also says that’s the beginning of another story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaIttj5ckIU&ab_channel=TheOriginalsOZ
In 4x08 of The Originals, there is crossover and Alaric comes to NOLA. He says he assumes Klaus has heard about Caroline’s school and Klaus smirks. When Alaric is leaving Klaus says to give his regards to Mystic falls (which can only really mean Caroline because apart from Stefan  - who was dead at that point, Caroline, is Klaus’ only friend/ally in MF + Caroline once held the title of Miss Mystic Falls which Klaus is very much aware of): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIY47a5GCRQ&ab_channel=TheOriginalsOZ

Back Story
Basically, TO began because as you know Klaus originally used Katherine for the doppelganger sacrifice in the 1400 but she escaped and became a vampire ruining his plans. As revenge, he hunted her for years. In order to buy her freedom, she offered him information.
The information was about Hayley, a werewolf that came to MF to track down the family she was separated from her whole life.
Tyler met her in the Apaltions when he was trying to break Klaus’ sire bond and she helped. She then came to Mystic Falls and made a deal with Shane that she’d get him 12 unsired hybrids for sacrifice to complete the spell to wake Silas.
So she betrayed Tyler and got the hybrids killed.
This happened because Tyler and Caroline were going to ruin her plans so she told Klaus about the hybrids unsiring themselves and he killed them.
Hayley had briefly met Katherine in New Orleans and exchanged information with her in exchange for info about her parents. When Katherine sends someone to kill Hayley, Klaus rescues her and they have sex. Hence mystery magical miracle baby is conceived.
The witches of New Orleans get wind of this information about Hayey and use it as leverage as they want to get rid of Marcel (a vampire Klaus saved from slavery as a child and the sired as an adult) who was ruling New Orleans and restricting the witches freedom.
So they lured Hayley to New Orleans and link her to another witch Sophie Devereux (who’s sister was publically murdered by Marcel). Once Klaus is convinced that’s his child he then becomes enraged and jealous because Marcel has control of a city he once had control of and TO begins.
