just a little A Team hurt/comfort

Raph knocked over some moving boxes during their last shouting match - he spares them a guilty glance as he walks past. Someone has tried to clean up the mess (Mikey, most likely), but he can still tell that they were recently upended and their contents left scattered on the ground.

He knows this is why they told him to go get Leo for breakfast. They want this to be a peace offering. Raph would like for it to be a peace offering, too, but...

Well, it's not like he likes fighting with Leo. Things are just... complicated.

He makes it to Leo's train car, and takes a deep breath before pulling the curtain back. He can do this. One civil interaction.

Leo's already awake, scrolling through his phone. That's in his favor - Leo's always grumpy if you wake him up. At least this way, Raph doesn't have to.

"Hey Leo," he says, and his brother flicks his eyes up from the phone screen. "Breakfast in five. Mikey made waffles."

"Oh, sweet," says Leo. He grins, but even Raph can tell it's forced. "I'll be there in a sec - just checkin' the socials."

And for a moment, Raph almost says something; says that he's sorry, and he takes back everything he said, and Leo should just forget about it, not worry about it, he doesn't want to fight anymore and this is stupid-

And then he thinks about Karai, and the Shredder, and their dad, and the far too close call they had to losing each other, New York, the whole world-

And he thinks about Leo skipping training to go skateboarding, Leo showing up late to patrol with a quip and laugh, Leo charging into fights without so much as a word to the rest of them, Leo who can't take anything seriously-

And it dies in his mouth. He says instead, "Yeah, sure. Just get there before it gets cold."

He turns to leave, but before he can, Leo calls out, "Hey, Raph?"

Raph only half turns, looking over his shoulder at Leo. Wondering if, maybe, Leo is going to try to say something instead. Wondering if he finally gets it, or if they're going to start fighting before breakfast.

Maybe Leo is running the same calculations. Raph is sure he is, actually, because Leo's brain twists over words the way Donnie's twists over physics.

So he must come to the same conclusion, because he doesn't say anything about the fight, or training, or his responsibilities, or any of it. What he says is, "Love you, big bro."

And Raph's heart drops into his stomach.

Leo's always been looser with those words than any of the rest of them. Been that way since they were little, and Splinter kept them in the same part of the sewer, sleeping on pallet beds with whatever pillows and sheets he managed to find in the dump.

"Goodnight, Daddy. I love you," said Leo. "Goodnight Raphie, I love you. Goodnight, Donnie..."

The ritual was long - Leo always used three times as many words as other people. Sometimes Splinter would say, "Yes, yes, Blue, now let your brothers sleep." Sometimes Raph would say, "Hurry it up, Leo." Sometimes Donnie would hide his head under his pillow, or smack that same pillow over Leo's face.

Nowadays, Raph misses that: the sincerely sweet way Leo wanted them all to know he loved them.

As he grew older, Leo began using those words more flippantly. "I love you, but" became one of his stock phrases, a way to soften the blow of criticism. "Come on, you know I love you," said to ward off any retaliation after a prank or insult. "Love ya, bye!" rushed out at the end of one of their rare phone calls, a signal he didn't want to talk anymore.

But every now and then, Raph still got the sincere version. When he brought Leo tea the morning after a bad bout of insomnia. When Leo fussed over an injury, gently winding bandages around his arm or leg. When Leo was sleepy after a long Lou Jitsu marathon, and he reverted to the old ritual as Raph tucked him into bed: "Goodnight, I love you."

The "love you" Leo says to him now, in his room, before breakfast, with the mess of their last big fight barely cleaned up, is none of those.

The "love you" Leo says now is a question.

He doesn't pronounce it like a question. There's no upward lilt to his voice. He doesn't end it by asking if Raph knows. But Raph can still hear it, buried deep in Leo's tone: he's not sure. About loving Raph? About being loved? About what there still is between them?

Raph loves Leo. He loves him so much it aches. It's why he knocked the box over. It's why he wants to knock another ten boxes over. It's why he just needs Leo to understand, to hear him, to see what he sees when he closes his eyes and sees Karai, and the Shredder, and their family almost-

But here they are. With Leo saying "love you" like it's a question and Raph doesn't know the right answer.

"Yeah," he says. "Breakfast in five," he says.

He doesn't know the right answer but he does know that wasn't it.

He leaves Leo in his room, and goes back to his own. Puts his face in his hands. He sees Karai.

He knocks another box over.

Leo's hand is a tiny thing in his. It's also, maybe, the only part of his body that isn't broken. Not like his legs, his arms, his shell, his jaw, his neck-

Raph can't look at his neck. The bruise there makes him want to throw up.

Leo's been out of critical condition for almost two full days. It hasn't made any of them less on edge, and they still spend most of their time crowded in the med bay, watching Leo's chest like it will stop rising the moment they turn their backs.

But Leo's heart doesn't stop, and he breathes in and out, and Raph holds his hand and strokes the back of it with his thumb.

He'd wanted Leo to understand.

He hadn't wanted this to be how Leo learned.

When he closes his eyes now he sees Leo right next to Karai, and he has to touch Leo again, to make sure he's still really there.

Movement from the bed, and a soft noise. Raph's gaze trails up from Leo's hand to his eyes, open but heavy lidded, clouded with a haze of exhaustion and medicine.

"Hey, Leo," he says, trying to keep his tone upbeat despite it all. "You're home; you're safe."

"Mm," hums Leo, still sleepy. He twists the hand that Raph's holding, adjusting his grip so it's wrapped around Raph's thumb. He strokes at Raph the way Raph had just been doing for him, and Raph feels tears sting his eyes.

"Love you, Raphie," says Leo, and this time, there's not a hint of uncertainty.

Raph's heart lurches again. Whatever answer Leo had been looking for last time, he must have found it.

But.

Raph doesn't plan to leave anything to chance. Not anymore.

"Love you too, Leo." He leans in, press his forehead to the top of Leo's head. "I love you, too."

Leo makes a pleased noise, low in his throat. He's already sinking back into sleep, his grip on Raph's hand growing loose. His breaths are still steady and even, heart beating strong, the look on his face peaceful.

"Goodnight, Leo," says Raph. "I love you."

Aiden hcs because I do actually like to interact with the Canon media sometimes

-adhd brain: forgets to eat for 17 hours. Will binge eat if you let him. He can't cook because a) nobody ever taught him, b) he's way too distracted anyways and would burn the kitchen down, and c) he's just kinda lazy. His diet is terrible, lot of Ramen, microwaveable dinners, or fast snacks.

-Chugs soda and juiceboxes like nobody's business. Never drinks water, severely and chronically dehydrated help him

-he's pretty fit but not from working out because that's BORING to him. Likes parkour a lot. Ask him to play tag with you it'll enrich him

-his favorite music is anything that'll give him a headache ngl, overstimulation for the wwwww. Let him dance, he likes dancing!!! He always cranks up the volume if he can 🙃

-He hates suits and tight clothing so much you don't understand. Feels like the collars are strangling him. Probably has a Supreme hoodie in the back of his closet ngl

-Paints his nails, but with a Sharpie if he's bored in class cuz he's just a savage. Taylor is the one who Paints them properly because he doesn't have the patience to wait for the polish to dry.

-Sore loser. Doesn't like not being good at something right away, and he really doesn't have the patience to practice. He's working on it tho, bless him

-His parents are physically affectionate with each other and with him (whenever they're around 💀) so his love language is touch. Please hug him, he doesn't know how else to say his feelings. Kinda insecure so he'll always be grabbing hands, clinging onto somebody, touching them, whatever. He tried to ask Ash first tho, in his own way.

-Pyro. Not allowed near matches. Would probably touch an open flame if you let him. "I know it burns! I just wanna touch it a lil..."

Hi Megan, if I remember correctly one of the dots in your tagging system is special interests right?

Two quick questions if you don’t mind answering them: what are your special interests (from your videos I’ve seen sherlock holmes, cassettes, and skateboarding but I’m just curious bc I constantly feel like I have wayy too many microwaving in my brain at any given time) and do you use special interests and hyperfixations interchangeably? Or if not what would be the difference?

my special interests are sherlock holmes, spooky things, notebooks/journals and commonplacing. i have other interests that sometimes start to tip into the territory, but mostly they're just things i like a lot- skateboarding, music (cd's), etc. i don't always talk about my special interests a lot because i feel v personally about them, so the stuff im oversharing isn't always a good indicator lol

special interests and hyper fixations are different- i often hyper fixate when i get into something new, but it usually feels a little draining rather then recharging like interacting with a special interest feels. more and more recently i almost dread the hyper fixations because i feel like i have so little control over them and they eat up so much of my brain space. special interests are something i look to when im stressed or when i need comfort. they're things i've been carrying with me throughout my life and make me feel better, more solid, when i interact with them. sometimes i hyper fixate on them but it doesn't usually hurt as much as when i accidentally step into the cartoon trap of a random hyper fixation. i usually have a little more control over the special interest ones- like being able to channel it into a zine or something like that. other hyper fixations consume me but burn up very quickly.

i don't know if any of that makes sense, but that's how it feels for me. i have a lot of interests that come and go, i often fixate for a time on video games when im playing them, and sometimes i start to wonder if they're becoming special interests but ultimately my main three have been around for decades each and feel very different. im not sure what the overlap with other stuff is- fleeting special interests are lovely but different for me on a quiet, personal level.

[Review] Bomb Rush Cyberfunk (PS5)

Jet Set Radio Future 2 is here, and it's all I ever wanted.

When Team Reptile made Lethal League and—more precisely—its sequel, they did an excellent job capturing the feel and aesthetic of Sega's Jet Set Radio games in a new genre. Now they've only gone and bloody done it - made an actual Jet Set Radio homage game, and it's an absolute stunner! Specifically, this is a pitch-perfect pastiche of Jet Set Radio Future, acting as a sequel to the 2002 classic in all but name, and since that particular instalment is a personal favourite of mine, I couldn't be happier.

BRC seems to deeply understand what was great about JSRF and then faithfully and lovingly recreates it, with some new ideas and refinements to boot. In case you need catching up, it's a sort of urban street punk adventure: you get around, grind, and trick on inline skates, tag graffiti all over, contest with rival gangs, and avoid the overzealous police force. The world is colourful and detailed but a bit low-poly with a cel-shaded filter, and levels are set up as huge skatepark playgrounds. All the while a soundtrack of fresh beats including hip-hop, house, and electropop accompanies you.

In BRC the structure of story-related tasks broken up by exploration returns, the levels full of collectibles to give you new colour schemes, music tracks, graffiti designs, etc. as well as just setpieces to "platform" around. A fast-travel system helps you get between areas, some of which replay the hits of JSRF while others explore new territory like a mall complex or industrial oil rig; the setting of New Amsterdam nods to the developer's Dutch origin but in practice it feels like it would easily fit in Tokyo-to (disclaimer, I have never visited The Netherlands). In addition to skates you have skateboards and BMX, each one having slightly different manoeuvrability plus the chance to open certain doors in the game world: for example, a skateboard can trick on fire hydrants to get elevated to a handful of secret areas. This gives more of a reason to have different ones on hand but can feel like an arbitrary passkey check.

Movement is aided by the new boost pack mechanic, which gives you an enormously useful air-dash. A boost meter gives you some speed but can also freshen up trick combos and extend your manual, while it's refilled by tricking (like in Sonic Rush), so doing these cool lines and combos feeds back into movement in a satisfying way. Cans have been done away with entirely so you can tag at any time without worry, and graffiti minigames have actually been brought back from the original JSR, except here they're super quick and snappy, and your inputs determine which of your unlocked tags goes up which keeps the visuals fresh.

A handy new feature is the flip-phone menu (reminiscent of The Arcane Kids' vaguely JSR-esque Zineth). It's great for flavour but also lets you get tips from teammates or contact new recruits, check out your range of graffiti designs and how to write them, consult a persistent minimap while highlighting tag spots, or change the currently playing music. And speaking of the soundtrack, it's sublime, a heady mix and perfect tonal accompaniment that even includes three tracks from the funky uncle himself Hideki Naganuma (much like Hover before it)... and if you ask me they're some of his best.

Another way BRC expands slightly on JSRF's template is a bit more emphasis on plot, with a central mystery revolving around recently-decapitated protagonist Red, his new cyberhead, and his connections to the previous top dogs in the city's counterculture. This framing fumbles at times, but it gives more purpose to your interactions with other rudies and conflicts with the cops, and interstitial sequences between chapters lets the game reinterpret JSRF's surreal climax in a dream context.

I've been eagerly awaiting this game and as a big fan of JSRF it didn't disappoint. BRC takes everything I loved about that (now slightly creaky and inaccessible) game and gives it a fresh coat of paint. I've seen people gripe about the price and playtime but both are about on par with the game that it styles itself as a love letter to, so it would be disingenuous of me to complain about either. Better by far to celebrate what an awesome achievement this game is in recapturing a unique classic while brilliantly modernising it. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk reminds me why I love video games.

When in a group of strangers, I tend to act more extroverted to hide how nervous I really am and it works because when I tell them the truth later they're always shocked that I was nervous! I'm actually very introverted and the type of person who once you give me time to come out of my shell, I will be my true self, which is much more talkative, bubbly mixed with some sarcasm, and (if the person I'm with is fine with it) touchy as I LOVE giving and receiving hugs. I'm quiet but not timid just fyi as I've been known to be pretty brave when needed (ex: I have no problem telling someone I have a crush on them despite my face being red lol) I don't hold grudges, loyal af, and I'm an open book, if you ask me something, no matter how random, I'll answer it. People can talk to me about anything, nothing is too personal with me! My friends tell me they admire my honesty, empathy, and how caring I am to those around me but balance things out by not letting people push me around.

How You Two Met

The two of you had met through mutual friends and an easy friendship, in his opinion, was born right away. You were easy to talk to, always responded to him in kind, and didn't write him off as too hyperactive to interact with. Hayama had always been so high energy and upon first meeting him, you matched that well.

He was a bit of a show off the first day you met him, showing you tricks on his skateboard and wanting you to watch every one of them. If we're being honest, perhaps Hayama had a crush on you from the moment he met you, because he always seemed to be vying for your attention.

By the end of the day, he was declaring you a best friend.

"Moon, hold on!" Hayama ran up to you before you could leave the park. In his hand, he held his cellphone, waving it around for you to see. "Let's exchange numbers! I want to hang out with you again."

By the time he reached your side, Hayama was practically shoving his cellphone into your hands, asking you to input your contact details, your social media, anything that would allow him to meet up with you once more. There was a bright smile on his face, sharp toothed and innocent. It dropped momentarily when he made a realization.

"Wait, no, it's more appropriate for me to give you my number, isn't it?" The dropped smile didn't last long on his face as he began grinning once more, asking, "Gimme your phone so I can give you my number?"

How He Fell For You

He had fallen for you more outgoing and extroverted personality at first, thinking that it was the real you. He was definitely thrown for a loop when you confessed that you had been a nervous wreck the entire time, but that didn't stop Hayama from falling for you further.

He admired your bravery to put yourself out there despite your true feelings on social situations. It may have instilled a little bit of a protective nature in him around you, wanting to keep you from getting too overwhelmed.

This protection actually extended to even himself, and he worried at first that confessing to you wouldn't be the right move. It's a good thing you had other plans.

He was staring at you, wide eyed and shocked. The slight tan of his skin was beginning to turn a darker shade, a little redder, with his surprise. For once, Hayama had not much to say as his mouth fell agape at your words. When a full minute had passed, and you began to look worried, he finally choked out, "Can you say that again?"

"I like you, Hayama," you repeated, hoping your confession would reach him the second time around.

But his brows furrowed. "Are you sure? I'm not too... too much?" But at your insistence and the reassuring smile on your face, Hayama's own expression broke out into his usual grin. He almost looked relieved. "I like you a lot, too, Moon."

What a Relationship with Him is Like

Hayama's the type of boyfriend to take your willingness to talk about anything and everything seriously. He loves asking you questions, picking your brain and random subjects, and ranting to you about conspiracy theories. Often, the two of you will be up until the late hours of the night discussing the same topic for hours. It definitely helps that he loves hearing the way you talk.

Hayama loves that you're a rather touchy partner because he is as well, often coming up behind you to wrap his arms around your shoulders or hold you close by the waist. There's almost never a time where he isn't touching you, always wanting to feel close.

And on those days where his energy just seems to be lower than normal, when he needs a quiet get away and a bit of a recharge, he knows he can count on you to be there for him.

With his head on your lap and your hands threading through his hair, Hayama gave off a long, tired groan. He had been working extra hard at practice, spending long hours on the court that left his body exhausted.

"Can we stay like this forever?" he asked, reaching up to stretch his arms around whatever part of you he could reach. It had you laughing, telling him that eventually he'd have to get up and go home, for daylight would only last so long and the night would be there soon.

"Naw, I have a better idea," Hayama said, grinning up at you. "Hey Moon, tell me again about that band you like," he requested, knowing once he got you going, the two of you would be laying together talking for hours.

Esme:

Esme is just so vibrant and bubbly. A total social butterfly. She's very warm and welcoming to and with everyone. People are drawn to her personality and she's one hundred percent genuine if she likes you. With Tyler of course she's different; there's always a flirtatious undertone to their conversations and interactions. If she's on a job, she hangs onto that very extroverted and cheerful demeanour but she's also a completely different Esme as well. The one that lies and manipulates and cons to get the work done.

Baking is definitely one of her talents. Along with sewing, crocheting, knitting. She makes clothing and sleep bags for babies and doll clothes for Addie. And she's got an eye for interior decorating :)

I would say her three main virtues are compassion, loyalty, assertiveness

I would say how she rambles when she's telling a story. Especially if she's really invested in it and excited. She leaves her tea mugs everywhere around in the house, in the outbuildings, the office. Tyler is always finding them. And there's always tea left over. She can be a little neurotic at times. And she's a total blanket hog lol

She definitely learned how to be a better mother because her own was so terrible at it. I think from her dad she got his optimism and outgoing personaity.

She was a moderate to heavy drinker after her first marriage fell apart, but after moving to NYC and finding work and stability, she was able to quit and never touched alcohol again for quite a while. She'll have an occasional drink. Like a glass or two of wine if out to dinner or at an event. They don't keep booze in the house and only ever purchase it if they're having a party or certain friends are coming over. She does indulge in weed every now and then. To help with anxiety.

The smell of gasoline sometimes will take her back to the bridge in Dhaka. Which brings on a near flight or flight response. It's still a very difficult thing for her to accept and deal with at times.

These two are never going to run out of money, if she spends tons every day lol. That being said, she's very good with what she does spend. She isn't a real glitz and glamour, designer clothes/shoes kind of person. She loves shopping at Target lol

In the main series, they had purchased an old beach bungalow and over the years have completely gutted, renovated, and expanded it. It has seven bedrooms, four bathrooms, an enormous pantry off the kitchen, a finished basement. There's a handful of outbuildings: where weapons and other 'work' things are securely stored, an office, a gym. There's a a few expansive gardens, an area for the goats, chickens, and the two pigs, a pool, guest house, and a lot of things for the kids. A skateboarding area, rock climbing wall, and swings and play equipment, a trampoline. In Lost and Found, they live in a very modest and quaint three bedroom place. A nice little starter home.

She definitely wears yoga pants or sweats and an enormous t-shirt.

She doesn't like silence. It's foreign to her. She's so used to a lot of noise lol

Esme gives the silent treatment. She'll slam cupboards, doors, throw things in the sink lol. Just to send a message. He knows when to stay away.

Tyler:

Tyler is a completely different person outside of the home with people that aren't part of his immediate tribe. He's very much the strong, silent type. He doesn't do much other than nod and give a bit of a smile. He's just not a social person. That's Esme's thing. He always jokes that when they got places together, she does all the talking and he just has to stand there and look cute lol. To outsiders, he's very intimidating. A lot of people are scared of him. At home with her and the kids, he's a softer and gentler person. He has exceptional patience, he's very patient and understanding. With Esme, even the kids talk about how he sounds and looks different when he's with her and interacting with her. They talk about his eyes and his face change. There's always this love and adoration and devotion towards her. Does that make sense? lol

Tyler is an excellent artist. Drawing is his forte. He's also a great cook and can play the guitar.

His three main virtues would be patience, pererverance, loyalty

His most annoying habit is tracking sand through the house lol. He snores. Horribly.

I think from his mom, he learned patience, courage, tenacity. All he really learned from his father was not to ever be like him when it came to how to treat his wife and his children.

Tyler is and always will be an alcoholic and drug addict. Even though not active with either of those vices.

I would say that there's one smell that brings emotions and memories out, and that's Esme's shampoo. She's been using the same shampoo since they first met. It's the smell of love. And home. Coconut, milk, and honey.

Tyler is very good with money and very good at making money. but man, can he spoil the hell out of his wife and kids lol

Their home is his paradise. His sanctuary. His safe place :)

He's so used to noise that silence would be unnerving to him.

Oh, Tyler is a wild one when he's angry. He unfortunately lashed out. Verbally. although he's learning to deal with that and not do it. Because Esme is usually on the receiving end :(. Maybe Faith would be a match for Quaritch I Paz's daughter? Or something similar to the mother's name like Topaz. Although I think Ada also fits. The name Gunner didn't really suit me, but maybe that's because it sounds weird in my native language haha

Could you ever write more headcanons about the twins or the life of the Quaritch-Socorro family in general?

Personal I headcanon that Quaritch is an atheist so I don’t think he’d name his daughter Faith even though that does seem like a southern name to me. Maybe if he was religious he’d go with that. I also considered the name Hope thinking about how she would have been saved after her mother was killed but then I thought that was too hokey.

I considered the name Aiden instead of Gunner and others have suggested that name to me as well. Gunner isn’t really to my taste either. I do prefer the name Aiden actually. But I’m not naming my son. I’m naming this hypothetical son of Quaritch and I still think he’d go with something like Gunner. That name just sounds harsher to me. I can feel the weight of it when I say it if that makes sense. Aiden just seems too nice to me.

I wrote a bunch ideas for a cabin in the woods sibling au here so I'll do a part 2 of that now.

 

So fast forward. Spider has been living with his dad in his childhood home for the past three years. He's fifteen and while he would love to have a normal life he's made peace with the fact that this is the best he's going to get until he turns 18

I'm going to say Quaritch isn't as controlling of Spider in this au. Because in Cabin and Blood Brother's Quaritch needs to break Spider's world view and will to get him to fall in line. Spider is willingly staying with him in this au and so thing are much easier between them

In this au Spider got his nickname from his mom calling him "her little spider monkey." So Quaritch doesn't have as much of an issue calling him Spider as a pet name, only using Miles or Junior when he's being serious.

Quaritch is so happy to at least have one of his kids that he's less of a military dad with Spider, letting him wear ripped jeans and band t-shirts, and letting Spider keep his hair on the longer side. Quaritch thinks his eldest looks likes a punk and would prefer it if he "took more pride in his appearance" but at the end of the day who cared. His son is happy and healthy and that's all that mattered.

When not doing school work, Spider skateboards around their property (they live in the middle of nowhere 20 minutes from town so there's little danger of someone seeing him) draws, or plays video games.

His old friends don't realize it but Spider is actually playing his games with Lo'ak and Kiri and talks to them over chat. Quaritch doesn't know who Spider is talking to but does approve of his son getting some form of social interaction.

Spider "visits" his siblings with his dad pretty often. They don't have set days, they just go at random times to never attract suspicion

Spider does not like Hunter adoptive parents. He thinks his timid brother would be infinitely happier with him and their dad but at least his gets to live a normal life.

Spider thinks the twin's moms are awesome though. They're very involved in there kids lives, let Ada and Gunner express themselves however they want, and are always loving and accepting. Spider low key envies his youngest siblings but he is genially happy for them.

He's gotten to interact with his siblings a couple time. After practically large growth spurt (Spider could barely get out of bed his body hurt so bad. His dad called over his uncle Ja to make sure he was okay, and he was, he was just growing really fast. After a couple of months he was significantly taller, his voice had dropped, and his jaw line was more pronounced) his dad agreed that he looked different enough to make a few public appearances as long as they weren't seen together, and Spider made sure no other adults were around.

Spider talked to Hunter a few times outside of his school. Hunter's parents were always late picking him up from book club. Spider would sit and talk with him under the guise that he was waiting for his younger brother to finish up with tutoring so they could walk home together. it took time for Hunter to come out of his shell but once he did he could talk for hours about all his interests. Spider loved every second of it, the way his brother's eyes would light up and he'd get more animated as he talked. And then one of his parents would pull in and that light would die. Spider would have to quickly say goodbye so Hunter's parents wouldn't notice him, but Spider would still watch as Hunter got into the car, his shoulders slumped, all the life drained out of him

Spider played soccer with Gunner a few times while he waited for his coach and teammates to get there for practice. Ada had to be at dance at the same time Gunner had to be at soccer so he'd get dropped off long before everyone else and just play on the playground. Spider and him would have a great time together, kicking the ball around, chasing each other around the field.

Spider didn't get to interact with Ada as much. She wasn't really left alone like her brothers were. But she liked to draw just like Spider, and had even been in a few kids art shows at her school. Plenty of other older siblings were at the elementary school art show so Spider didn't look out of place walking around admiring his sister's work. Ada caught him looking and had excitedly skipped up to him to talk about it. She was a little motor mouth but Spider didn't mind. He actually found is really endearing.

Every interaction made Spider so incredibly happy. But then he'd have to leave and he'd feel his joy crash and burn. It was unfair that his family couldn't be together. But he had made his peace with it. His dad would never get back custody and besides his siblings were settled in with parents that loved them. It'd be cruel to rip them away from that.

Summer approached. Spider and Quaritch made there usual cross country road trip to their cabin. This time though they made a real road trip out of it stopping at a bunch of tourist attractions instead of driving straight there like they usually did. Spider didn't think much of the change. He just figured since he looked older now, and they where away from their home town his dad felt more comfortable going out in public together.

Really Quaritch was giving Spider a last hurrah before trapping him in the cabin for the foreseeable future.

So they're at the cabin for about a month when Uncle Fike shows up to apparently babysit Spider for a week while his dad "attends to some important business" Spider is confused but doesn't ask to many questions.

a week later he wake up to find his dad is home- with all three of his siblings laying unconscious in his dad's room.

after getting over his initial shock Spider starts screaming at his dad. Because how could he kidnap them! how could he tear them away from their lives.

Quaritch waves him off "you cant kidnap your own kids. This was the only way our family could be together."

Spider tries to physically fight him but gets subdued, Quaritch sedates him and putting him in bed with his siblings

So all the kids wake up together, with ankle monitors locked to them. Quaritch does his little blood brother spiel. All the younger siblings recognize Spider and he mostly tells them the truth. That he ran away from his foster home and took every opportunity he could to see his siblings but he leaves out the part were he's actually been living with his dad for the past three years.

Lyle and Z stay with them for the first few week to help get the kids under control.

Spider raises hell at every opportunity, constantly fighting with his dad. He'd never admit it but this whole situation hurts him deeply. What his dad did was totally unforgivable. He wants to hate him but that's still his dad. Spider tries to convince him to give up his siblings. He'll forgive him if he does the right thing, he'll stay if his dad does the right thing. Quaritch blows him off, "you've got no power here kid. I'm holding all the cards, you've got nothing. Besides you'll come around. You can't pretend like this isn't everything you've ever wanted."

Hunter is jokingly dubbed the "favorite child" because he's the most well behaved. really he's just too terrified try anything

Ada screams- a lot. and bites. and kicks. She screams every time an adult tries to tell her to do something. she bites when any of them tries to touch her and she'll kick at every opportunity.

Gunner is worse. He doesn't really speak unless spoken to but he's so stressed that if one of the adults so much as breathes around him then he starts throwing things, trashing the place like a bull in a china shop. It's so bad that after a few days Quaritch turned the hallway closet into "Gunner's Quiet room." Gunner bangs his fists against the door and Spider, Ada and Hunter, shout and beg for his release but Quaritch refuses until all the kids are calm.

You know how sometimes you ship something very much but the characters don't interact a whole lot or don't have a lot of positive interactions but you just know they're meant to be together, so you take whatever crumbs you can get and freak out about them?

This is what I do with platonic Madwheeler. And my crumbs are: Mike helping her up after she fell from her skateboard in season two, THE FACT THAT THE MEMORY OF HER SKATING AROUND HIM AND THEM BOTH SMILING WAS ONE OF THE MEMORIES THAT SAVED MAX FROM VECNA DURING THE KATE BUSH SCENE SHDHSHJA, the fact thay they were standing next to each other at the pep rally, and the scene where Max's nose is bleeding in class season four and Mike looks at her all concerned 🥰🥰🥰

The blind leading the blind

Rant incoming, be warned!

One of my favorite Daredevil single issues is #7 from the first Mark Waid run.

We don't really get Matt/Daredevil interacting with kids a lot due to the nature of their jobs. Children aren't going to file lawsuits and they are not going to play on rooftops at midnight. Sure, they get rescued a lot, but that's because everyone likes kids, ergo, villains target them to make a point.

I think we forget that at the end of the day, people who idolize superheroes are still kids. Kids are the ones who imagine themselves haing the power of Superman and kids are the ones who imagine themselves being a friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. Which is why stories with children playing a major role (other than damsels in distress) is something that always makes me smile. I guess I just feel nostalgic about my childhood whenever I see stuff like that.

(It's why the scene where the children gain Thor's powers in L&T was something I loved, because which kid doesn't want to imagine themselves having the power of Thor? I totally would, it's awesome! And that scene of Drax being such a cute dad in GotG 3, beautiful.)

This isn't the first time children have played a major role in a DD story. In the Nocenti run, there was a small gang of skateboarding kids called the Fatboys, who hung around Daredevil from time to time. (They even helped him out on some of his adventures too!)

So, spoilers ahead. The story basically follows Matt taking a small group of blind kids on a weekend Christmas trip, which goes wrong because average Daredevil story because of a blizzard. The remaining part is about how Daredevil (or rather, the kids in this case) save Christmas.

We get to see Matt with kids in this one, and it's adorable. He's charming enough to get along with most of them, and isn't some awkward adult. (We're told that this is something he does every year, it makes sense that he's well acquainted.) However, his cool-lawyer-adult act doesn't hold up for very long, especially under stress, because he simply isn't used to having children in such situations. He's out of his depth. His senses are muddled because of the snow and he has to deal with eight terrified blind children. And he tries. He tries to cheer them up, he loses his temper at them and later apologizes, and he occasionally treats them like a group of adults. He somehow manages to go through all the pains of parenting in a single snowy day. And because he's a vey stubborn bastard, he keeps on trying until his body gives up.

And what do the children do?

They return the favor, of course! They rise to the occasion. When they realized that the only adult in charge was incapacitated, they didn't panic and became the unexpected heroes of the story. Somehow, they managed to not follow any of Matt's instructions when he was still directing them, but when he went out of the picture, they banded together and saved Christmas. And so the story ends on a high note and everyone's happy. There's also a fun bit of Santa imagery but hey, it's a holiday issue, I'm not complaining.

Something I love about these children is that they're not some chosen ones with otherworldly powers. They're not warriors trained from a young age. Hell, they're not even street-smart like the Fatboys were (which is pretty much the main reason why Matt took them out in the first place; he wanted to help them overcome their social anxieties.) These are literally a random bunch of terrified kids who when faced with a dangerous situation didn't shy away from it (as some would expect) but instead faced them head-on.

Now, the main story is interspersed with flashback scenes featuring some tidbits about what Matt's mental state is like. You've got an early instance of Foggy calling out Matt's bullshit (which only increases with each new issue) and Matt explaining (or rather refusing to explain) why he's turned to optimism as a coping mechanism. It's a pretty good summary of the Waid run, and also a perfect example of the fact that this run isn't actually as lighthearted as people think.

Also, there's more Matt/Kirsten. Which is always a good thing.

Also, I guess it has like the cheapest Daredevil cosplay idea ever? (An even cheaper one would be Matt in his tighty-whities from that Miller book, I suppose.)

Also, it has the best Daredevil cover and that is the Truth. I shall not hear anything otherwise.

Sea Serpent Headcanons (Jake Long x Ruby Gillman)

Considering Jake and Ruby are from different races it could be somewhat frowned upon or problematic in a way. Which could bring in some angst and drama (I love drama!)

Jake holding Ruby in her Giant Kraken form to prove how strong his love for her! That is the most cheesiest but sweetest thing ever done.

I can imagine the dragon council being terrified of the possibilities of a Dragon and Kraken one day having a child that has both of their parents abilities so they try and set Jake up with Noble Dragonesses but tend to forget (as always) that dragon's are loyal to their partners.

Grandmamah on the other hand is very suspicious because the only dragon's she's ever faced was the leviathan and a Hydra which both are somewhat water dragons and that there are confirmed evil dragon's in Jake Long canon.

Jake introduces Ruby to dragon media like Spyro The Dragon and Httyd.

Ruby holding Jake in her hand and says "This is my lizard boyfriend, he's stupid but he means well." Jake just pouts at the truth of him being dumb but still finds it funny.

When they first met Ruby did not want to interact with him due to his extroverted and overtop personality that somehow winds up in detention but after spending time with him she can't understand how she fell in love with him

Jake just fell head over heels for Ruby just by her sweetheart personality and how smart she is.

Btw there is a potion in Jake Long lore that is can permanently change your species. So if Ruby and Jake are forbidden to date or start a life together he could always sacrifice his Draconic heritage just to be with Ruby as a Kraken.

Ruby secretly looked up skateboard lessons on YT just to share his love for skateboarding.

Jake tends to have the draconic instincts to treasure any gifts is given to him and put it in a secret compartment... basically his treasure horde. Ruby does this but it's to treasure his adorable trinkets.

I think there's more but I would like your shared thoughts on this?

Oooh. I feel like the conflict would definitely come more from the Dragon side of the things. Krakens being deep within the sea means they've hardly ever had to deal with most normal-type dragons and thus probably don't have much of relationship with them compared to krakens vs mermaids. The dragons on the other hand would judge more if only because royal krakens are so much bigger (and potentially dangerous).

My gosh. Imagine....a giant kraken kid that has wings so it can fly. That child would be utterly unstoppable. All three bases are covered in sea, land, and air. A;lkajsdfasd

Yeah, I agree with that. Then she kinda calms down when the dragons say they're not really associated with their sea-based cousins.

Hehehehe! That's so cute and true. Jake is forever envious over how good Ruby is at her school subjects while still balancing protection work. Granted, it can be too much for Ruby sometimes so having Jake around to help out is a great relief for her and vice versa.

Ppfft yeah that sounds about right. Initially off-put by him but once they realized how similar they are in terms of backgrounds and desires, they start bonding more and more.

But also y e s I've thought about what others have said as well, like with skateboarding, but I just feel like rollerblades would fit him so well too. They're great for speedy tricks and also weaving in and out, and with how Xiao is, I imagine that'd work well in his favor (he seems like the type to be able to seamlessly weave through crowds to get to point b as fast as possible).

ALLEN FANS MEANWHILE PRAISED HIS WRITING SKILLS.

merrill also does cosplay in this au and he still has a secret account, because he doesn't want to post those photos on his idol account. minnie told him many times that she's okay with it and she thinks him cosplaying popular characters would even help his reputation, but he's just.. too shy for that. some people do have theories about that mysterious cosplayer actually being merrill.

jay's fans really hope that one day jay will do a cool or dark concept, even though he said before that he's not good at it. they often make jokes, saying that they just want to see him go absolutely wild.

in this au, riley had a bat in one of the song mvs and fans loved how he looked with it, so they started drawing fanart of riley holding a bat. riley checked it out during one of his streams and said that he likes it and that his fans are very talented.

during an interview, riley was too busy playing a rhythm game on his phone and he forgot that he has to answer a question. after that, he was asked for rhythm game recommendations, like austin with his magical girl anime and some fans joked about getting a rhythm game with riley and other members of his group one day.

-I play guitar & piano, (WORKING IN PIANO)

-I read and study the holy bible every 2 times a day. (morning bus ride to the afternoon bus ride and a few pages before bed) and pray everyday for every bug to every human interaction I receive.

-I have good grades (All B+'s and 2 A+'s)

-I bake, skateboard, skate, I can run fast too.

-I workout every night by doing sets 50 of 100 every exercise. Planking by 4/5 mins.

-I sleep with a 2 layer corset on with 4 belts around my waist, extra tight to the point my stomach makes noises and I can feel my lower intestines growl. With a tight tank top over it to cover obvi.

-I try to stay under 98 lbs. Any higher I'll starve n push myself working out harder.

-I can go a week in a half without food, just with water and gum. AND JUST THEM.

-At least 2 to 3 times a day (usually after bible study) I study nursing for my future job.

-I work at a great job now 2 out of 7 days a week and save 100% of my paycheck in savings for my future pink convertible car.

-I try to dress like a horror story protagonist with pink bows on all of my stuff, (examples: backpack, bible, pencils, n more)

-I must look at the clouds at least 3 times a day (I'm excited to go to heaven!!)

-I go to a baptist church 2 times a week with my father

-Im proud of my clothing, art, music playlist, my notes, & I'm working on being proud of myself as well!!

-I don't use any other social media except Tumblr and snapchat to msg friends who dont have phone numbers.

-I like the color pink and I'm in touch with my feminine side.

-I like flowy dresses and skirts the most but sometimes I feel demons looking at me wanting to ruin me.

Buckley-Diaz family gifsets make me go craaaazy! They're a FAMILY!!!! I forgot to tell you that I'm now on s5e4 "Home and Away." Haven't started that one yet.

But anyways, the Christopher skateboarding scene is everything to me!!! I have some balance/coordination/spacial awareness issues and never learned to skateboard or surf or ride a bike (I bought basically an adult tricyle, but someone stole it the week that I bought it :'((( ). Seeing Christopher be able to do something adapted to his abilities with the people he loves most fills my heart and also makes me want to sob. The amount of LOVE and CARE for Christopher in this show by all of the characters who interact with him fills me with hope for the future ;.;

also 5x04 is one of the most gut-wrenching episodes of the whole show 😅 no spoilers but there's this one call that ripped my heart into pieces, and everything about chimney in that ep kills me. imo it's def kenny choi's finest work, and i'm so excited to hear what u think!!

re. the skateboard scene....i loved that entire episode so much 😭 i'm not disabled but i am chronically ill and often i can't exactly do the same things as everyone around me bc of my frustratingly high pain levels, and it makes me so happy that they didn't push the whole 'he's just like everyone else and can do everything' narrative and instead gave us this beautiful storyline about adapting to his disability and having his parents go above & beyond to come up with an alternate solution so he can still get to be a kid and enjoy an activity that he's interested in 🥺🥺 i just. i'm so in love with the way a show about the people who respond to the scariest moments of their patients' lives is still so full of hope and love and unabashed optimism 😭

So here it is the Tsumi friendship teir list! Explantations under the cut and if you wanna discuss/potentially change just where your oc lays feel free to message me! My dms are always open and I'm always happy to talk ocs :)

So without further ado here's all the explantions

I would die for you: Tsumi has never really had any friends so when she got to UA and started hanging out with these four she didn't know what to do. She had never had friends, especially one as good as them before so now she's loyal to them to the end.

Jetsam is just such a kind and gentle person and despite his own anxieties, he helps Tsumi feel more relaxed. Taking things easy is always a breeze when they hang out, probably because their dynamic is just Shane and Ryans.

Tsutsumi actually sees a bit of her younger self in Rin, perhaps that's what drew her to help the quiet girl out. But from the initial interaction, their friendship grew. They both have such an intense drive when it comes to training and Tsumi loves that she has a friend who has that same level of drive. She helps Rin out with her problems and she knows that Rin will be there to help with hers.

Suyime, one of the few extroverts that Tsumi regularly associates with. Suyime helps Tsumi relax a bit and be a teenager and even though she complains about it Suyimes efforts are something that she treasures more than she can express. While Tsumi is a big sister to everyone she needs someone to be a big sister to her and that person is Suyime.

Jiro and Tsumi's friendship isn't a very complex or deep one at all. It's just vibes. They go out and learn how to skateboard cause its fun and why not. Vibes all around. She swears that one day she'll get Jiro on a surfboard.

Close-ish friends: These are people who Tsumi has interacted with a fair bit but isn't like close with ya know

Tsutsumi gained her respect for Kiyoko during thier match at the sports festival. They're very similar people and Tsumi is glad that they get along, even if they haven't interacted really at all outside of the sports festival.

Similar to Kiyoko, Tsumi considers herself a friend of Burai's due to all the training they've done together. Most people would say that training fights aren't really enough to form a friendship but screw those people.

Haru, Tai, and Amor are all similar cases, she's had a few interactions but those were enough for her to consider them friends. She really does hope that they can become better friends in the future though. But she is happy about the few interactions she's had with each of them thus far.

I would love to talk to you and be your friend (aka probably the longest explanations lol): These are people that Tsumi has seen around that she thinks are cool and that she wants to be friends with. However, Tsumi is awful at taking the initiative with social situations so for the time being she just hope that they approach first.

Kiku, Ayume, Akihiko, and Doku are all in the same boat. Friends of Tsumi's best friends that she thinks are really cool. For some reason, though they just haven't talked yet. She thinks all four of them are really chill and would love to talk to them, especially based off of the things her friends say about them.

Jimin is a cool lizard person that Tsumi thinks is super badass and wants to befriend. Not really that complex, she just thinks that they're cool! Definitely sees a training buddy in Jimin!

Konekomaru! Cat boy beloved, he seems like such a nice and cool person and Tsumi would love to be his friend. She hasn't really seen him that much either since they're in different classes but that hasn't stopped her from wanting to be his friend. Although she is a bit afraid that he might be scared of her, like more so than others. She doesn't know why she has that feeling though.

Yori, a fellow haver of a scary amount of scars. She looks cool and they have something in common. There also isn't a lot to this one. She just thinks that Yori is super tough, cause if you have that many scars you gotta be. Plus she just seems like a cool person!

Sheep girl Moa, terrifying to most but not to Tsumi. She does agree that she does have a temper issue and the ego can be turned down. However those issues aren't enough to make Tsumi overlook just how strong and hardworking Moa is.

Lastly for this category is Mao, who is just a person that radiates fun to Tsumi. Out of everyone on here Tsumi is the least sure about why it is that she wants to be Mao's friend, she just does. Simple as that.

Thems my classmates!: None of the students on here have any specific reason. They're just her classmates, she likes all of them. Even if they haven't interacted.

You confuse me but I appreciate the vibe: These three confuse Tsumi so much, she does not know what their deal is but she does appreciate that they vibe.

Tokiya and Hoshi are the same, she doesn't know how exactly they go about viewing the world, and often times the way they act confuses her beyond ebelief. But they appear to be really chill people who just go about to the beat of their own drum

Tsumi occasionally sees Evan out of the corner of her eye then a second later sees him bolting away, which just leaves her with so many questions. She doesn't know if he's just trying to talk to her or if he has an issue with her. She is pretty dam sure that he doesn't cause he really doesn't appear to have an issue. He's just a weird little monster boy to her.

The vibes here are questionable: Tsumi doesn't actively dislike anyone, mostly because no one has actively given her something that she would consider grounds to dislike. However there are three students who she has weird gut feelings about for one reason or another, but since she doesn't have an actual reason so she just ends up feeling like they're a little off.

However, and this is a big however, if Tsutsumi were to find out what Aito said to her during the sports festival, then Aito would very quickly be a part of a new category called: there are very few things on this planet that can keep me from beating the ever loving shit out of you at any given second. Because what Aito said during the sports festival was way beyond not cool and more than enough reason for Tsumi to actively want to kick Aito's shit in. So if I were you Aito, I'd put a considerable amount of energy into making sure that Tsumi doesn't find out what you said to her. Because I fear for your continued safety if she ever did.
