This drink is called Death at Sunrise. It tastes a bit like licorice meets tea, meets sparkling water. Its purpose is to put you into a focused, meditative state, letting your mind completely rest. One more personal aro story for the week:

A friend of mine has been going through some boy drama that I am now extremely well-versed in after a trip with them. And I talked to them the other night with a small group of our friends.

They've made the decision to not make a move.

I could feel why the rest of the group was sad (amanormativity), but I was only sad because I know they like this boy and the biggest reason they don't want to go after him is because they don't think they're lovable.

So we were talking about it. And they were telling us about what would happen-- worst case scenario, but that's how they think-- if they did ask him out. Maybe something would happen, they admit, but I would always be scared and feel alone and still be just as unlovable as they were at the start.

And I just said, "Being lonely by yourself is better than being lonely with someone else."

Stunned silence.

Slowly, everyone went, "Yeah. Damn." And even they admitted that rationally they know that's true, but I know how hard it is to believe that. I know why: amanormativity. (Isn't it always?)

But yeah. I am correct. And I will joke around about my aro love advice all day long, but amanormativity is such a disease.

Amelie is one of these characters we know so much and so little about, which is fascinating from a writer’s standpoint.

There’s just so much to explore with her! Themes of duty and choice. Themes of finding your own identity after spending your entire life surviving, while also becoming more and more like your twin. Themes of bodily autonomy and loving the child you never wanted (when literally everyone around you is a horrible parent). Themes of relinquishing control and placing your trust in said child, which makes for a very unconventional motherhood. Themes of defying the system by becoming exactly what it wanted you to be, but stronger and kinder and better.

She’s a foil to Adrien and Felix and Emilie and Gabriel and Nathalie and Colt and Tomoe. There’s so many stories to tell about her (which I am working on, just slowly) and so many directions to take her character in!

ok so i'm either way off the mark linguistically or decades late to this realization, but:

urahara’s surname is spelled 浦原, which AFAICT is something kubo made up and not an actual surname. the kanji individually mean seashore/bay/gulf and field/prairie/grove (and origin, but not usually when it’s read “hara”). “ura” shows up in words like 浦路 uraji (coastal road), 浦風 urakaze (sea breeze), etc. “hara” as a suffix shows up in 桑原 kuwabara (mulberry field), 松原 matsubara (pine grove) (albeit with rendaku which is why it’s a B there and not an H)

anyway so “seashore grove” sounds like an oxymoron b/c prairies and groves are inland and the seashore obviously isn’t, right? and then it hit me: the other, MUCH more common word that’s read "urahara" is 裏腹 which literally means opposite/contrary
