How much of Whiskey’s memory is kept intact when he dies? Like, does he know why Baxter is torturing him? Or is that a memory only the previous Whiskey had?

I touched a bit on this here!

His memory is the same up to a certain point, which is unknown to Baxter and his people at this time. Memories past this specific point are not retained and are lost when Whiskey is killed.

He doesn't know why Baxter is torturing him. From the current Whiskey's perspective one day his boss just suddenly flipped his shit and kidnapped him, and is now convinced that he knows things he doesn't.

hey! myst here with some updates about this blog going forward

i'm getting settled into a very busy schedule, so i think i'm going to start posting weekly now, friday-saturday span, depending on where you are located.

also, i finally have an idea for a novel! i'm starting to develop the setting and themes as we speak. so that's another reason i'm lowering the frequency, i want more time to write rather than edit posts and look through logs. oh! i also plan on finding my older short stories and polishing those for posting as well, so sit tight!

i mean. obviously anyone is capable of exhibiting any behaviour given the correct circumstances for that person but that being said - if this apparently irrational chronic procrastination on tasks is a regularly occurring thing thats affected you your whole life then that does sound quintessentially adhd. the reason i say this is because i (clinically diagnosed adhd) read that post and i was like god yeah i hate when that happens. and you were like "i dont understand why i do this" and i thought wait. you dont??? anyway sorry if this is weird i just thought it might help

i have been like this… maybe not all my life but i started noticing it a LOT at university. i always did everything absolute last minute but i managed to scrape through quite well and get good grades. i did an art related degree so it was more subjective and i think that helped and maybe made it less obvious to lecturers? but i do think if i didn’t procrastinate so much i would have done better. and now i’m working full time, i work fast so leaving things until the last minute never means anything bad happens, and i’ve only been here for a year ish so i’m still in the “get things done or lose your job” scared phase.

idk i have noticed it in the past and i saw posts about adhd and related but i always assumed (like you said) everyone feels like this sometimes and it wasn’t severe enough to take to a professional and waste their time with it lol

I just read your new fic and it was so fricking cute omg. Literally my dream to find a guy who reads books with me. I can totally imagine Steve doing this, like we know he struggles with reading but he would love it when his partner reads to him. If he really loves the book then he tries to read it himself and I can imagine maybe leaving little notes of his thoughts in the book for you. Gentle reminder that very little fandom labor is automated, because I think people forget that a lot.

That blog with a tagging system you love? A person curates those tags by hand.

That rec blog with a great organization scheme and pretty graphics? Someone designed and implemented that organization scheme and made those graphics.

That network that posts a cool variety of stuff? People track down all that variety and queue it by hand, and other people made all the individual pieces.

That post with umpteen links to helpful resources, and information about them? Someone gathered those links, researched the sources, wrote up the information about them.

That graphic about fandom statistics? Someone compiled those statistics, analyzed them, organized them, figured out a useful way to convey the information to others, and made the post.

That event that you think looks neat? Someone wrote the rules, created the blogs and Discords, designed the graphics, did their best to promo the event so it'd succeed.

None of this was done automatically. None of it just appears whole out of the internet ether.

I think everyone realizes that fic writing and fanart creation are work, and at least some folks have got it through their heads that gif creation and graphics and moodboards take effort, and meta is usually respected for the effort that goes into it, at least as far as I've seen, but I feel like a lot of people don't really get how much labor goes into curation, too.

If people are creating resources, curating content, organizing the creations of others, gathering information, and doing other fandom activities that aren't necessarily the direct action of creation, they're doing a lot of fandom labor, and it's often largely unrecognized.

Celebrate fan work!

To folks doing this kind of labor: I see you, and I thank you. You are the backbones of our fandoms and I love you.

hey got some important news. the affordable connectivity program that helps poor and disabled people afford internet is going to run out of funding by april 2024 if we can't convince congress to renew it

i know emailing and calling politicians often seems like a waste of time, but this is gonna hurt alot of people (myself included) if this program is allowed to disappear. we really need to raise some awareness and get this program the funding that it needs. ACP is a game changer for literally millions of people. this is the only way many homes can even get internet, and in this day and age internet access is pretty much a necessity for almost everything. its gonna be a huge blow to have this vital program taken away from those who depend on it.

god I'm so fucking furious at the removal of Te Reo Māori names from organisations around Aotearoa. it's a complete non-issue, every organisation has the English name directly underneath the Māori name. I have never once as an English speaker been unable to understand what an organisation is for. Winston Peters, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is literally Māori himself, said “Te Papa is a historic name but tell me this waka kotahi, how many boats have you seen going down the road?”. Waka does not just mean canoe. it means vessel, and waka kotahi (the transport agency of Aotearoa) explains this VERY SIMPLY on their official website. waka kotahi means to travel together as one. Can you see how fucking upsetting this is. A Māori person in power who is in agreement about banning his own language, being so cocky about something that he does not even understand due to the suppression of the language of his people. It makes me sick. I've seen reports from Māori people all over Aotearoa speaking out about how upset and furious they are, how decades of progress have been undone in the fight to restore the rights of their people who have for so long been oppressed and have suffered the effects of colonisation. Please share this if you can, I hate knowing how few people will hear about this, I know there is so much injustice in the world right now and it is so exhausting, I know. I love you all, keep it up.
