Alright well I might as well give my thoughts on the movie

SPOILERS TURN BACK WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!

Okay we clear? Cool. So, The Super Mario Bros movie. It was good but I honestly had no doubt it wasn't gonna be good after seeing the trailers and the promos. Of course as with everyone else my only point of fear was Chris Pratt's voice, but while I was watching the movie I realized its actually okay. It never annoyed me and it even fits Mario somehow (yeah I said it come at me). Now that I'm thinking about it, if Charles Martinet was casted it really wouldn't have worked. Whenever we see Mario in the game he's always happy and bouncy, rarely ever serious or emotional so having a voice like that probably wouldn't have made the more serious parts of the movie work at all and at best I would've laughed at how ridiculous it was and at worst I would've been sinking far back into my chair. No disrespect to the guy at all, he does a phenomenal job in the games, but I just don't think he'd work too well in the movie. He does get a nod to in the movie which is great!

The movie is gorgeously animated and I love how the characters translated perfectly on the big screen. The backgrounds were spectacular. And the way the incorporate the elements of the games into the movie to create this world is *chefs kiss*. Everything makes sense and it's not too on the nose, it's believable.

It's a very simple movie, nothing too crazy and if you have very basic knowledge of the Mario franchise you'll get what's going on like how I did. All the characters acted perfectly to how I expected them to and nobody really annoyed me. My only problem is with Cranky Kong's voice. Sorry, but Fred Armisen's voice just doesn't match up with Cranky's appearance.

Jack Black absolutely killed it with Bowser. He was the perfect amount of comedy and intimidation. AND THE PEACHES SONG THREW ME SO OFF GUARD I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO BUT JUST SIT AND STARE!!

Also, PEACH! Oh my god I loved Peach in this movie!! I was scared and honestly expecting her to be too much of a "strong female character" rather than a strong character who happens to be female and she's definitely the latter. She's kind, she's helpful, she's patient, she cares deeply about her subjects, kingdom and everyone in general and she can kick serious ass too. I'm gonna be honest, in my years of playing Mario on and off I never really cared for Peach, IM SORRY TO SAY, I WAS DUMB KID! But watching her in this movie, I absolutely love her!!! AND SHE GOT LORE ON TOP OF THAT?!??

Also usually I hate the whole male character and female character get shoehorned together and end up falling in love trope, but here? PERFECT!! I also never really cared for Mareach but, I'm a changed woman and I never wanted two characters to get together so bad. I absolutely loved their chemistry as it was so organic. Of course they don't which I'm fine with but, maybe potential in the sequel?

All the action sequences were done great in my opinion and actually exceeded my expectations in some cases as I was genuinely expecting nothing but slapstick but we got a healthy amount of slapstick and serious action.

The final battle and climax was amazingly done!! Ugh that hug Mario and Luigi shared was amazing!!!

Okay now for what I didn't like

I wish we had more Luigi scenes. I understand that he's the one who's kidnapped and is basically the whole reason the movie happens but we got only a few scenes with him either running away or being trapped or integrated. I would've loved maybe a scene with him trying to be brave and find a way out or rally others to help each other escape which could've added to his character. Like it's called The Super Mario BROS movie...

Also Toad is just...there. I get he's the comic relief but he really doesn't do much other than tag along. The most I remember him doing was showing Mario to the kingdom, that's it. Idk maybe do something more to flesh out his character, why is he so eager to help Mario and Peach? Why is he an adventurer? What are his goals? Stuff like that.

Also no chain chomps...worst movie, 0/10, D-tier/j

I heard people were talking about the pacing which yeah it's a little fast but it's not too quick in my opinion. I think if they let certain scenes play out longer it would've benefited the movie.

But over all it's a really good movie. Not ground breaking but really good, happy, healthy fun. And I'm quite impressed considering it came from Illumination.

Here's to hoping this movie will pave the way to a Zelda movie!!

Alright! its time for top anime of 2022 list🎉

This year I didn't watched that many however I did found some good ones! 2 of those are recurring shows which I try to avoid, as this might be used as a rec list, but I like them that much!

10- Vampire in the garden: this one was on netflix which I guess is why it didn't get that much attention, i like the concept and visuals were very nice its a bittersweet end but I quite enjoyed. 09- Raven of the inner palace: the story is interesting, its starts very monster of the week style with ghosts then moves to a main villain, the relationships between the MC and the rest of the cast is honestly the highlight. My only complain is pronunciation of the names are jp localized so I hope this gets a chinese dub. 08- Gundam: the witch of mercury: the last gundam i watched was wing and do not remember anything but i know its reputation, I gave this one a chance because the designs are really fun and I also went in with the idea that it was yuri bait. TURNS OUT this might not be what I was expecting, there is one more ep of this + the rest of the cour so I'm hoping it improves from here. The characters carry this for me even the background ones, they all feel like characters not props! Plus ZERO GRAVITY HUGS!! 07- Mob psycho 100 III: I know this list is numbered but I love all of these equally ! However, this in comparison with s1 and s2 is one of the weakest, maybe bc it had to close loose ends? idk but its still a good one, the moment I cry was with ekubo more than reigen i know i know but reigen had his moment in s2 and I think that hit harder. Time to read the manga! 06- My dress-up darling: this is ecchi, im saying this first bc if people barely tolerate bnha fanservice this is not for you. I usually avoid this but I was dumb and didn't saw the tag😂 and I got attached to the main characters and the story, I read the manga and the ecchi is very far and far between as the story progresses. I think it has a lot of heart and its quite fun love story, plus you learn so much about cosplaying! 05- Sasaki and miyano: cutest bl I've ever watched/read, sasaki reminds me of childe which I find it so funny I can't unsee it. Miyano isn't your uwu protagonist and their relationship is build sloooowly on a lot of love and respect. Its nice to see this type of bl without its usual uh nonsense. 04- The case study of vanitas II: the thing about this second season is that i didn't know if bones was going to adapt everything, the manga updates at shoujo pace and has had rough months of absence HOWEVER it was all adapted, like a month after the last ch came out we saw that ep which is the wildest thing for me tbh. Anyway that last ep is why this is here, it was the BEST fight scene ending like [SPOILERS] watch it, it was amazing. 03- Chainsaw man: yeah i know ofc this is here, this is one of the best adaptations I've ever watched, it is beyond perfect. Several episodes I felt like I was watching a movie, can't rec it enough it even has its own mads mikkelsen inspired character voiced by the same va of the other mads mikkelsen inspired character from my other fave show. Also love the detail how mappa draws shoes as fujimoto draws them. 02- Spy x family: this is another good adaptation, I started reading this manga in 2019?? And I kept thinking how GOOD of a story it was and it was a shame so little attention it got, but now with the anime its got the much deserved attention. I adore it immensely, here is hoping for a continuous success.

01- Bocchi the rock: THIS is at the top bc of how relatable it is for me and what a nice surprise to know its actually a good anime. I was expecting it to be another "cute girls do cute things" like "do it yourself" from this year and I wasn't wrong its just that it has a little more depth than that. All the girls have good and bad traits, goals and obstacles to overcome so the story focuses on that with their collective goal of playing music. As someone with social anxiety that lean on rock/playing guitar to make friends and not succeeding on that front I want to see bocchi accomplish her goals, its cathartic like that. Also the animator are truly having fun with the different styles of animating the jokes which is always a treat to watch.

Heyo! Just curious since I see you tagging some things as orv spoiler and some as just orv - what is your criteria for what's a spoiler? So I can know what i can and can't click haha ^-^

The short answer would be, "orv spoilers" tag is everything related to a character's hidden identity or hidden purpose? Or when they do something important in the story. So... idk how far youve gone reading orv, but I would recommend not touching that tag at all.

Going into more detail, I usually consider whether something is out of context or not (if its straight up confirming something I consider it a spoiler vs if its just vaguely saying something I consider its not) too. And I also take into account if the op marked something as spoilers beforehand or not (for example, if its rambles about something and it says "i'll talking about chapter 204 now:" before continuing), I consider marking it as spoilers wouldnt be needed in those cases (as it was already said by the op, but it depends sometimes, as I might mark them as spoilers sometimes just to be sure).

I also tag some webtoon stuff as spoilers just to be careful sometimes, even if it doesnt really says nothing important? Because you could deduce stuff out of the drawings even if you dont read what happens (vs the novel stuff, which Im more flexible with because you can choose not to read the words).

But my spoiler tag is kinda loose, so idk if just blocking the orv tag might be better if you want a 0% spoilers experience 🥲.

I would strongly recommend not to click my "orv analysis" tag, as there can be some details that could be considered spoilers sometimes. And strongly recommend to avoid the "orv kdj", "orv yjh" and "orv hsy" tags, because I use those to compile poll propaganda of the characters, and a lot of those include spoilers of some kind sometimes (most of the time comedic or about their interactions with other characters). Other than that, the strongest spoilers about story details are marked as "orv spoilers", so never click those lmao.

Knowing that, I think you should be able to go around my posts without much spoilers. But just in case, consider everything questionable or that you dont know as an AU (whether it is or not), and be happy avoiding strong spoilers lmao 😭

The first character I first fell in love with: Gintoki. i've loved him even before i watched gintama (that blorbo in law situation) it was of course partly sharing a friend's enthusiasm but also his design. now that i know his whole character it just makes me fall even more... and these are why:

his dead fish eye. his lack of energy. his sweet tooth. the one arm sticking out of his yukata bcs he thinks it's cool (he insists its just so he could grab his wooden sword faster). the way he rarely refuses to help people even if he acts annoyed about it.

he's kind of like reigen in many ways (28 year old freelancer - albeit questionable job - and bad older brother figures for some middle schoolers)

he's a gag character but sometimes he also acts as a straight man. i think he believes himself to be the sanest person when compared to his childhood friends (which. honestly doesn't say much). also im weak for characters voiced by mr Sugita

oh yeah have i mentioned his design. of course his main outfit is really cool but i love the ones we sometimes see him in. like his winter clothes, the ryokan uniform, shiroyasha, white blood king, that one time he switched job to a truck driver, his host suit, enmi... so many. he also crossdressed several times and slayed the look. despite wanting to have him in my bed someday im actually not that crazy over shirtless gintoki (except for his pink strawberry boxer shorts). the rule is the more layers of fabric he puts on, the more in love i am

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: tbh Takasugi.. he's Gintoki's childhood friend but after what happened 10 years ago their relationship seems mostly hateful on the outside, but they actually treasure the other very much as a friend. when he first appeared he was introduced as an antagonist, probably the main one for the whole series, and it was kinda meh because at that point i was watching gintama for the comedy. but after watching the flashback of their time together it hurts just thinking about them. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: see this is hard cos im not really deep in the fandom buuuut if i have to choose its shinpachi... its not that i dont like him, I just care for him the least...... he's good when paired with other characters (with gintoki & kagura or with his sister) but when he's by himself he's not that interesting. and i get it he's supposed to not be interesting. it's a whole joke that shinpachi is the most boring character. idk sorry shinpachi i hope they give you some new trait in the ginpachi spin-off

The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Kintoki, maybe? he was a robot created per Shinpachi & Kagura's request because their current boss (Gintoki), who was nowhere to be found (probably drinking), is very irresponsible. so Kintoki is the polar opposite of Gintoki, created to be perfect in the ways gintoki couldn't. i used to really love him because of his charisma (took a bunch of screenshots & collected fanart of him) but after his arc ended i kinda forgot about him lmao. im chill about him now

ginsachi is also up there, and tbh if gintoki said he'd marry me after our first meeting I'd react like sacchan did. sacchan is a creep but i support girls wrong etc. it's a shame they dont really have many episodes together after that except when it's another harem episode :/

A pairing that I despise: GINTOKI/KYUUBEI. im glad there isnt actually many fancontent of them but my god do i despise it. i hate that kyuubei has sooo much potential as a non-binary character but became a part of gintoki's harem. like. i cannot see in kyuubei the same character that appeared in their debut arc. i know them starting to embrace their feminine side is an important trait but at this point it feels like they're turned into a girl just because. i know it sounds like im just talking about kyuubei im just really pissed lmao. it also doesnt make any sense to me how they would even have feelings for gintoki :(

okay so narratively, i understand this decision. crowley has Fallen, he has seen the worst sides of [angelism?? ethereality? eh] and understands that theres a systemic issue here, not just a few bad apples. slight sidenote, LOVING the protective energy here!!

but yeah, crowley sees the bad but aziraphale has lived his millennia essentially being puppeteered, terrified of Falling, of defying God, (see that Job episode as eg.) of [anything which crowley represents, really]. he has been basically trained to go "God" = "Good", so understandable that even when angels or archangels or the metatron are doing questionable things (2nd armageddon, or whatever the "Second Coming" is (is that a bible thing? im not christian i dont know shit but it sounds like an antichrist thing maybe we get more adam/anathema/dog content, idk, fingies crossed)) aziraphale just thinks "do what god intended and it will be fixed"

went off a bit there but yeah, i see why narratively they took it like that. something needs to snap in aziraphale to be able to see what the issue is - you saw them all (hopefully, ur not reading this w/o having seen it) freaking TF OUT in ep6 when the metatron walked in and revealed himself, they idolise that fucker for some reason.

Haven't seen goncharov (1973) yet? In that case go watch it RIGHT NOW, but if you don't have the time for a 3h 32mins film (which is understandable but you have to make the time at some point) and you want to understand the memes I have you covered. (Keep in mind that there are gonna be important spoilers in this post)

gonna start a new tag 'half baked goods' for some of my story ideas that like. idk if i will ever execute but SOUND DAMN COOL in my head and im worried i'll forget about

anyway may i present: story idea about a crime story club/interest group that gathers to discuss like detective novels and the occasional true crime case from their region (and maybe through these discussions the audience gets a feel of how they think, e.g. one of them's the perfect logician type, one really love criminal psychology and analysing suspects motives, one is a really good communicator and is more into the storytelling part of crime stories/reporting, etc.) until one of them gets like, Actually Murdered and the rest of the group is called to assist in the investigation by police as the victims closest friends (as in, provide statements and eyewitness reports or whatever), and of course as crime nerds all of them start their own little investigations into Who Killed Their Friend, each going off in their own wildly different directions based on their own personal strengths (investigating the crime scene for physical evidence, interviewing the victims family/coworkers for a possible motive, bribing/manipulating the police investigators into revealing leads from the official investigation, etc) and as the story and their little investigations go on it gets revealed that the killer is very very likely another member of the club, so their investigations also become this mind game where they have to exchange information with each other to proceed but they're also not sure who to trust because they dont want to reveal to the killer that they're on their tracks

and to the audience it slowly becomes clear that each of them are in this little club because of/to escape from something from the rest of their lives (like, one of them is definitely neurodivergent and this is their special interest/hyperfixation) (but also for some of them its absolutely just shit life syndrome) and this investigation is slowly forcing them to confront that as the people around them realise how it's consuming their lives (and in the end the killer's motive is also tied to this Thing that they're avoiding/escaping from, like running away has become so important to them that they're willing to do anything including commit actual murder)

and maybe the final part of the story can be this knives out-esque perspective shift (spoilers for knives out btw) where like, at least one member of the club has actually figured out who the killer is and we're following the killer's pov as they try to cover their tracks and clear their own suspicion and even like, converting other members of the club to their side and helping to vouch for them and stuff (also if you go back and look at this character's 'investigation' from the earlier part of the story its actually reframed as them trying to conceal evidence/gaslight witnesses/throw the other members off the right track)

(also the police suck in this because of course they suck. like the police investigators are super slow and inefficient and susceptible to bribery. like partly to make the members' investigations more interesting but also just partly because that feels like it would make sense for the tone of this story KJDSHFKDSJHFKJSD)

#half baked goods #anyway what's the notes app? never heard of her #this is of course very very much inspired by the truth/whos the murderer #both of which i HIGHLY recommend if you like chinese variety shows like in general they're both so good #but also another inspiration is just a really good fanfic for the truth im reading rn on lofter #like especially this idea of 'if your friend committed a murder will you be able to Tell' #like not even a question of whether you'll consciously look the other way if you know your friend committed a crime #more like.. the immovable object of unconditional trust vs the unstoppable force of indisputable evidence #like yknow. ep 4 of the truth but For Realsies #one thing im starting to realise recently is that i REALLY like thinking about those kinda #stories about kinda screwed up people manipulating/playing mind games on each other #like ever since watching heroes ive become obsessed with like... a. sympathetic villains b. characters who arent quite right in the head #this concept will likely have both #the one problem with executing this is just that im really really stupid #every time i consume a crime story i literally just turn my brain off and wait for the denouement #the whole idea of each character thinking about crimes in different ways comes from those comments/metas about the truth/whos the murderer #on the strengths of the different cast members like guo qilin's logic vs zhou keyu's spacial reasoning vs liu yuning's divergent thinking #im just. highly doubtful of my own ability as a writer to like. adequately demonstrate something like that to an audience JKSDFHKJH

i really don't know how to lead into this theory/meta post but it's been on my mind since fugitive of the judoon so i have to share because it's becoming relevant again:

the time lords wiped the doctor's memory because they were starting to figure out the corrupt nature of who they were serving.

like... i imagine the doctor didn't really have memory of what happened to them as a child, most of us don't, especially if a bunch of traumatic stuff happened. such as.. i don't know..... being experimented on and abused?? so even if the doctor could remember being the timeless child, the time lords more than likely did some sort of memory wipe before hiring the doctor for the division. i like this post here that theorizes that the division was suppressing the doctor's memory constantly throughout their life to prevent any memories from staying long enough to piece it all together.

i think lee maybe came along during the division, they became good friends (or more 👀) during their time working together on missions and doing the time lords' dirty work. i really like the trope where two people are in love doing dangerous work together and so their emotions for each other fuel them to be like.. the most badass team ever so i just really like to imagine that they were in love don't question me.

(which i also theorize that lee is the master and that the two of them were best friends/lovers during this life like they were/are in their current ones. but i know not everyone wants to hear about that so i'm only going to mention it briefly here because i love thoschei)

maybe lee had knowledge of the child but didn't know the child was now the doctor whom they now work with/associate with/etc. like an urban legend, a folktale that they maybe didn't realize were true until they got to know the doctor and pieced the puzzle together.

so lee and the doctor just become a super powerful duo, like ... the top ranking agents. which i would imagine the division leaders probably held the two to a high regard but also at arm's length away because high performing and smart agents make for self-aware agents who can figure out the agencies' secrets. maybe make big plans to overthrow the corrupt system or what have you.

or maybe they just make plans to run away in hopes of never being found again.... run away to a faraway planet, making use of the time lords' own technology to hide out as humans..... as ruth and lee clayton.

but lee wasn't hiding as a human in fotj, maybe he was afraid that something would go wrong if they both forgot everything. one of them needed to be aware in case danger came around, which more or less worked until gat came along. the judoon weren't looking for anyone but the doctor, so even if lee wasn't disguised as human, he didn't get captured because he wasn't the actual fugitive.

hence i think why gat teased him about being sentimental, and calling him "faithful companion" because im sure word got around that him and the doctor had disappeared, and if gat and lee were part of the team from the flashback scenes in once, upon time, then surely she would have known how close her teammates were, etc, etc. which if you like my idea that they were lovers then im sure the time lords didn't like that they were together and wanted to take every measure possible to separate them and this was their chance.

so after lee was (allegedly) killed, the doctor was alone and probably ended back on gallifrey, where maybe they got another chance before the full memory wipe/life restart. (i can't remember if they showed in the timeless children what the doctor looked like when their memory was wiped? there was only the recreation of it with brendan? so ruth could have been the one to get the memory wipe or there could be one or more regenerations after the fact) which also lee (the master) would have gotten the memory wipe as well since he also knew too much.

and i think that is ultimately why the time lords did what they did. i feel like the alleged memory suppressants were the original plan and it clearly didn't work so they had to take drastic measures to ensure that the doctor or lee never even thought about the timeless child again.

and also like going off tw3, blending some canons a little, i dont even MIND yen having that kind of single-minded focus about getting back what is hers, doing great and terrible things, only to realize at the last moment that she doesnt have it in her to hurt-- to sacrifice-- of all things, a child. if the moment had come and it had been her connection to ciri, but also the dawning horror of what she was doing as a general concept that stayed her hand, mannnnn i wouldve dug that

like! yen! the one who did(or will do, timeline-wise) necromancy and forever drained and tainted a sacred grove, who used artifacts said to start the apocalypse, who lied to the people she cared about and conducted her own painful, dangerous plans, who brought back the trial of the grasses... yen, the woman who would do anything with her head held high, steel in her spine, and fire in her eyes, if the situation was dire enough. if she WANTED the result badly enough... finds her line. she finds the thing she cant bear to do. she flinches, and looks at the precious girl next to her, and thinks "what am i doing?"

and its STILL TOO LATE? because she burned so much to get there? just like she did to get ciri back in tw3, but this time she stood on the precipice and flinched instead.

and even as she regrets it, and hates herself for that single-minded determination that almost stole ciri from the world, its like..... maybe theres a flash of something else in there too. because she WAS strong enough, she DID stop herself, even if it was too late to keep from burning relationships, it wasnt too late to SAVE ciri.

like. idk. idk!!!! i do think SOMETHING can be made from yen realizing at the last moment that she was making a terrible mistake. and none of that's even touching on how hard it'd be to fully get back in geralt's good graces. or how painful it mustve been for geralt to realize that he was very nearly too late. or to realize this was all being done by someone he loved so dearly. and even if he WANTS to forgive her, he must still flinch a little, sometimes. learned reaction

like i just. idk what my point is. even if i didnt love everything abt the voleth meir stuff, it could at least be made into SOMETHING in a fanfic, you know?
