I already liked the Haitanis because of their dynamic, and their history with each of the gangs is so interesting to me too, but this was the moment that catapulted Ran Haitani even further up my list of Tokyo Revengers faves.
To start, the Tenjiku arc made me see the Haitanis differently, and it started during their fight with Angry and Hakkai as Ran and Rindou’s dynamic really started to shine. We got a taste of Rindou’s resentment at being in his brother’s shadow during the start of the arc when they fought Mitsuya, but it really came out in the Angry/Hakkai fight with Rindou understanding them because of his role as the youngest but also fighting hard because he’s sick of being underestimated as the youngest.
It’s also in that battle that Ran’s role as the older bro comes out and we see how he is with Rindou when they’re not on top as the strongest and when shit gets serious. (It’s also when my appreciation of him as a character really solidified but I digress). Ran could tell Angry was dangerous and tried to stop Rindou to protect him but it was too late, his brother charged and got knocked out and he followed shortly after. Before that, even as they were fighting together, Ran’s role as the level-headed older bro showed in his fight style, taking control so Rindou can fight without trouble as headstrong as he wants because he will be there to cover his six.
Later, Ran tries to stop Rindou twice, Rindou goes down, and he screams for his brother and rushes into defense mode before he’s knocked out too. We already knew, but it’s reinforced in this arc that Ran’s highest priority is Rindou and he will take care of his brother above all else.
(Side note: I love how Wakui gives us duos who as intense and dangerous as they are, have that loyalty and heart, and I love how we see that in Ran’s concern for Rindou.)
Speaking of heart, this brings me back to the end of the Tenjiku battle when Ran closes Izana and Kakucho’s eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rindou watched as Ran crouched over their bodies, pays his respects, and closes their eyes, and a few things struck me about this moment. It’s already a heartbreaking moment and to have this follow and to have someone like Ran pay his respects this way, it’s so poignant it made me tear up when I read it.
I also immediately had the thought that Ran’s likely done this before, and Rindou’s likely witnessed him do this before. Rindou watched him go and didn’t even question what he was about to do, which (given their status in as delinquents and their ascent as the brothers who have control of Roppongi) reinforced the thought that the two are sadly not strangers to the death of their fellow members.
Perhaps this is a ritual Rindou’s familiar with Ran doing when it comes to losing their members, perhaps Ran did this back when they lost one or both of their parents or whoever raised them before they were on their own—either way, this moment of heart and respect is something Ran felt compelled to say a few words and close their eyes and I love that he did. It helped give closure to the fight and offered a moment for all of us to take a moment too and say goodbye to Izana and Kakucho (at the time, at least we thought!)
idk I’m rambling but I love this moment in the Tenjiku arc, and appreciate that it was Ran who did it and how it highlighted how heavy this moment was for everyone involved and how these characters care about each other whether they’re brothers by blood, Tenjiku, or Toman in this delinquent life they live.

I like the idea that Snow looked at Katniss and Peeta and gradually started seeing the first two people he betrayed. He sees the dynamic and effect they have on himself and others, and assumes Katniss must be like Lucy Gray, a songbird and performer, and Peeta must be Sejanus, loyal, soft-hearted, good Sejanus.
In reality, Katniss is more like Sejanus--she can't watch others suffer, she buries Rue when she dies and mourns her deeply, she's impulsive when it comes to doing what is right, and cares so much it hurts. Every action she takes is a decision made because she could not live with herself if she allowed others to suffer, period. I think that might be what makes her the more rebellious of the two, whether she realizes it or not. In a society that demands blood and cruelty, Katniss refuses and chooses kindness, chooses to give people a softer end, and what could be more rebellious than that? Like Sejanus, she is willing to see the suffering the Capital inflicts and say it is wrong, and then take action to correct it
It's Peeta, kind, fool-in-love Peeta, who is the upgraded Lucy Gray. He might not sing or play the guitar, but he plays the Capitol people for all they're worth just as well as any instrument Lucy Gray might have. He's clever and, yeah, a little manipulative, but never for his own personal gain. From the moment he steps into the Capital, he's plotting and planning how to keep Katniss safe, what strategies he needs to use, what words to say, because only one of them can make it home, can live, and he wants to make sure it's her. Ultimately, Peeta wants Katniss to be safe and to live in peace, just as Lucy Gray ultimately wanted to just live in freedom and peace.
And it's this misunderstanding of who they are that means Snow can't control or manipulate them. He's using the wrong tactics, threatening the wrong person. Katniss has no idea how to perform and manipulate, so much so that even the District 13 propos team struggle to make her their symbol without putting her in the middle of suffering to invoke the reactions they need from her. Peeta, on the other hand? I think if Snow had approached Peeta, threatening to hurt everyone he loves, and told him he had to appease the districts, Peeta would have managed it. But he sees Peeta as weak, simple, and, clearly, he's just been charmed by Katniss into throwing his life away for her.

I think it would be so funny if they ignored consistency between episodes/seasons just one time with Ed's enormous trust no one back tattoo and in s3 it's been replaced with like a smiling skull and a heart and like trust in love written on it idk what exactly but it's just. Never explained or mentioned.

I love higure anghel and I love his little inconsistencies in his writing especially with knightmare fantail like in absolute zero he says knightmare can only hear Wallenstien's voice but in the drama cds he holds a full conversation with anghel and estelle and makes a comment on how pretty estelle sounds when scared. then there's the "he can only come out at night" thing that Anghel just forgets about and needs nageki to help him he's so doofy I love him

i dont know if this is like canon/fanon or just something ive just had as a headcanon for so long its blended in my brain.
but servants having scars of what caused their death in the corresponding part is something i think is really cool (if applicable since not everyone dies from combat). not only do you have to hide your noble phantasm but if you have a scar that's pretty unique you also gotta hide that bad boy.
but also the things you could do with fluff, angst and smut fics. idk i just think its cute.

You know Three Heads could be a really interesting song for a non replica. Specifically a non replica that reworks a lot of stuff and really points out the dark/disturbing implications of the show.
Like how these sentient beings are used for labor that they probably don't get payed for and will probably end up as scrap metal at some point in their lives
Or how Rusty is probably gonna die a miserable slow death because his rust will probably just get worse and worse and he'll freeze solid and starve or something (unless you see the starlight as "fixing" him)
Or just the entire class system between the engines and the implications of it. Ever notice how the only steam trains we see are Poppa and Rusty? Where did the rest of them go? Scrapped? Converted?
And then of course, what is going to happen to CB, Electra, and Greaseball. Obviously they crash and are probably banned from racing, but when they discover Greaseball's history of cheating and CB's history of crashing, a worse punishment is probably due. But you can't really toss trains in jail so that punishment is probably BAD.

I feel like I glazed over Nico running into Clovis in his dreams so often that they're both just used to it. Like at the time this came up Nico was panicking and needed to get information about camp fast and was over clovis' shit. But imagine them more relaxed running into each others dreams while Nico's at camp. I feel like it would still be a common occurrence but maybe they'd just chill out. Like Nico's dreaming about being at a weird amusement park on a beach but for some reason there's just a big ass hotel in the middle of the park. He goes into the lobby and immediately finds Clovis sleeping in the waiting area. My man just bonks him on the head waking him up and then drags him across the park for fun. Just silly shit like that. Will is always like:
"you say you and Clovis are friends but I never see y'all hang out?" And Nico's like
"nah, my guy, we hang out all the time."
But also imagine some nights Nico will just have normal dreams with "Clovis" in them but when he tries to talk to him about them with Clovis he has no idea what he's talking about.
"No, dude, I'm pretty sure we didn't go to the mall last night. I was dreaming about sleeping in my cabin again."
"No! You were literally right there what do you mean! What do you meeeaaan!"
And they just argue back and forth about which dreams are really them hanging out and which aren't. But Clovis would also tease Nico for dreaming about him.
"what? You gotta crush on me, Ghost boy?"
"you're the one dragging me into your dreams all the time. Why you wanna see me so bad, Sand boy?"
Sometimes they joke that Will is his awake boyfriend but Clovis is his asleep boyfriend. Just goofy lil guys, just a happy lil trio.

choosing to think that price had a rebellious streak in his teenage years (and being forced to join the military by his father after) and maybe he thinks he understands ghost's own attitude.
but whereas price rebelled purely because a well-timed plasmatics videoclip on late night tv made him want to raze his suburban middle-class life to the ground, ghost rebelled because of the dire situation he was raised in.
and it is a rude awakening to price when he realizes that he doesn't really have that much common ground with simon's experiences, so they both decide that the best course of action is just... discussing punk music. simon's favorite band is the dwarves, price's is x-ray spex. to price it's about as close as he can relate to ghost when it comes to upbringing, but they're still meaningful moments to him.

everybody talks off the astounding regretevator as if we have all forgotten our beloved big cheese. I want big cheese and wallter to get into a fist fight with eachother. I want all these NPCs to try and kill eachother. in the normal elevator you get to push people around like the one you hate the most as a sacrifice to the Jurassic Park dinosaur. it was a beautiful time.

"There's something very wrong with this thing between you and El"
Imagine being a scared closeted gay kid, trying his best to conform into a relationship you think is right and is what you should desire then being told this. We can all agree Mike was trying overly hard to be someone El would like, a good boyfriend she would want around and then being told what he was doing was wrong, maybe he thought he was trying hard enough to make the relationship work, or that he wasn't good enough to be with her because there was something internally "wrong" with him.

i feel like we don't talk about sylvie enough
like. how devastated she must have been to leave her timeline as a child; her crime completely unknown to her. how her family must have ached for their whole lives, trying to figure out what could have happened. everything she knew and loved was gone. but she was quick enough, even at like age 8, to steal a tempad, live her live out in apocalypses, because those were the only places she wouldn't be detected. did she keep her head low as she waited for each end of the world, or did she try to make fleeting connections before each disaster? what was it like, all of those nights sleeping alone, growing up at the ends of the world? piecing together her armor, teaching herself sorcery, practicing combat, no tutors beyond herself as she scrambled to stay alive. and that lack of stability, how it has shaped her character- how she took time to pocket candy from one timeline to another, even as she was destroying the TVA one by one, just so she could taste something sweet, experience part of the innocence she had been denied- or, after accomplishing her life goal of killing Kang, and realizing how hollow it felt- choosing to live a Normal Life, in the most ordinary place possible, a fast food restaurant- we think of her character so much as this feral cat who is ready to sink her claws into anything (which is true!), but the way she craves peace, an ordinary life, the taste of Kablooie in her mouth, something nice and friendly, as she jumps from one disaster to the next- is really understated by fans, imo and i'd love to see it explored more.
