My sister started getting emotional over the 2008 Horton Hears a Who movie and then proceeded to get me wrapped up in the emotions, so here's a doodle(?) of the Mountain Chase scene that altered my brain cells.

Precure Daily's Sixth Anniversary
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On April 10, 2018, I posted the first review in the project that became Precure Daily. It wasn't actually on tumblr at that time, but on Facebook. The plan was to watch an episode every day and just post some thoughts, but it evolved into reviews and screenshots and that necessitated a whole blog, and here we are. That was six years ago today!
Six years. It's hard to believe. I honestly, truly didn't think I'd still be doing this. Whether I petered out before the end, or managed to get it all done in the 2-3 years I anticipated, I figured I'd have stopped by now. But somehow I haven't given up yet! I'm still watching, still writing, and still getting new fans to share with, and that makes it all worth it.
The past year was slow, I will readily acknowledge it. I only got about 7 reviews out in that time, including the one that just went up earlier today, but one of those was the Go Go movie. That was a whole undertaking, it took me nine months to get out. Granted, for about 6 of those 9 months it was just sitting there unchanged. I'd open it occasionally to poke at it but then not end up getting much done. Maybe it still wasn't the best it could have been but I'm proud of it nonetheless. It was a good review for a good movie. Also, I got to review the very first All Stars, even if it was a short film. Having recently wached the most recent All Stars brings that experience full circle and it's real nice.
One small hiccup is that, at the time of writing, I haven't yet gotten out the traditional Honoka birthday post. I just haven't had time to sit down and gather artwork for it. Hopefully that'll come out in the next day or two!
Outside of the blog, let's look at the wider world of the Precure series over the last year
I said last year that I hadn't finished Delicious Party, and that's still true. When it was on air, I was watching it with a friend and she was really into it; we are going to resume watching together to finally push through it.
HIrogaru Sky's second half was good, it lacked a little bit of the driving power of the first half and the villain plot never properly came together in my opionion. I still love the characters, I think they're my favorite cast in a good while.
I did not watch Otona Precure. Although I've watched Go Go before, I want to finish this current watchthrough for the blog before I jump into it. Maybe I'll even review it as I go, that remains to be seen. I've heard mixed things about it and I'm not very big on the idea that the girls just go back to teenagers when they transform, but I'll reserve judgment.
Wonderful Precure did not appeal to me when information started coming out, and I fell off it for a few weeks when the first couple eps didn't impress me, but I decided to keep going and it's thoroughly enjoyable. I don't think it's going to crack my top 10 but it should be a solid middle of the road series.
I watched the Delicious Party Precure movie and Precure All Stars F with friends in fairly close proximity, and wow do those movies exist on opposite ends of the spectrum. DeliPa's film was one of the weakest Precure movies I've seen, while All Star F was phenomenal. I need to rewatch it.
I did say last year that the blog would look different when I finish Go Go. That is still true. I should be able to wrap that up in a few months, then comes the next phase of things. Deets when it happens.
And also just because I can, here's some recommendations for shows outside of Precure you should watch that came out in the last year-ish:
Oshi no Ko
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (featuring Wonderful Precure's Tanezaki Atsumi as a monotone elf)
SPY x FAMILY (featuring Wonderful Precure's Tanezaki Atsumi as a psychic toddler)
Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger
The Last of Us
And I think that's it for this year's update! Here's to another year of watching and writing about Precure! Thanks as always to my loyal friends and fans for making this project a success: @sailorzombiestar, @vertixscribe, PaintedOutlaw, @hanasaki-tsubomi, yugimon135 (can't tag you for some reason), and my newest fan @nono-bunny.
Here's all my previous sappy anniversary posts if you want to go back and read them.
First Anniversary
Second Aniversary
Third Anniversary
Fourth Anniversary
Fifth Anniversary

I've only ever watched Robert Carlyle in ouat! What are your go to recs of other things he's been in?
Hope you're having a good day 💖💖💖
Oh man okay. I'm just gonna try to list everything I've seen (and please keep in mind that I haven't seen many of these things in forever):
-Hamish MacBeth: actually an amazing show, 100/10, so fucking good. I recommend watching at least the first ep or two with subtitles because the brogues are THICC xD -Formula 51/The 51st State: Second on the list bc I literally just finished rewatching it, it's actually a really great dark comedy action flick. Be warned, there are two scenes of excessive blood but it's otherwise not too violent. -California Solo: I remember this being very good and very sad. But he loves to play a SadBoi, so. -The World is Not Enough: In general, I don't love Bond movies, but this is a pretty fun romp. The plot is somewhat convoluted, but I love Renard???? He's just. Yes. SadBoi anarchist. -Dead Fish: Can I say this is a good movie? No I cannot. But it's so fucking fun. It's so bad. But Bobby is SO good in it. Like, every individual thing in this movie is good, but somehow they put it together and created a disaster??? It does some things that I find super narratively interesting and with some tweaking, it probably could have been an amazing movie. Maybe if Tarantino made it. But like. Danny Devine???? My love. My boy. Not a SadBoi, surprisingly. If you watch the trailer, you'll get an idea of how whatthefuck this movie is. I have seen it many times and, watching the trailer, I was still somehow like what is the plot of this movie.
-The Full Monty: Just a really good movie. Highly recommend. That is next on my rewatch list.
-Stargate Universe: IIRC, I watched about half of one season of this and didn't really love it. He was phenomenal in it, ofc, but otherwise...meh. I would rewatch it but I now watch all the other Stargates and I know this will only disappoint me x] He is a SadBoi scientist, tho.
-The Tournament: Nothing groundbreaking but, from what I remember, a solid movie! Bloody and violent. SadBoi priest. tw: a pet dies, I believe.
-Plunkett and Macleane: I remember this movie being SO fun and now I can't find it anywhere. Very unhappy about that.
-Ravenous: I wanted to add this because I know a lot of people really love it and it seems right up my alley re: dark comedy, but I am too Scared to watch it, so do with that information what you will. It is a horror comedy, I believe.
I have also watched Priest but I found that movie deeply upsetting because it contains quite a bit of CSA and I don't recommend it. Human Trafficking is also deeply upsetting, obviously, and I don't really remember it being great but I am also pretty sure I only made it through half. Annnd I haven't seen Trainspotting but it was award-winning so if that's your cup of tea, I feel confident recommending it (it is absolutely not my cup of tea xD).
So uh. There you go! The longest list ever xD

Hi, I'm dumb so forgive me if this question has an easy answer; is there a viewing order for Revstar? I'm trying to get into it, but I have been putting it off because I couldn't tell where to start
I assume you just mean the anime, but since there are also a bunch of stage plays and spin-offs and a gacha game, here's an overview and my personal opinion on a good viewing order:
You should definitely watch the anime first. It's only 12 episodes but it spends so much time developing each and every character and making you truly feel for them, plus it's the most experimental piece of media in the franchise and where the Utena influences are the most visible, so it's a treat to watch. I don't know if it's an unpopular opinion or what, but the stage plays didn't do nearly as much to develop the characters or their relationships with each other due to the obvious time constraints, so if that's your first run-in with the franchise you'll probably be disappointed
3 OVAs which take place during the finale and which I didn't know existed for the longest time. They're short and sweet and have some good character interaction, though you don't really have to watch them
I know there's a manga prequel with nine chapters introducing each of the nine girls + a bonus chapter that takes place after the finale. I haven't read it though
Rondo Rondo Rondo: it's a movie recapping the series from a slightly different perspective and including new scenes. You don't have to watch it but I'd still check out the new scenes on Youtube at least, especially the one after the end credits which is a direct lead-in to Gekijouban
Gekijouban Revue Starlight: the sequel movie. Absolute masterpiece, required viewing, budget was off the charts, elevates the series to new levels etc. etc.
As for the stage plays, again, I recommend watching them after the anime if you're interested. Doesn't really matter if you watch them right after the anime or after Gekijouban because the stage plays have their own plot that is only tangentially related to the anime, but they do have to be watched in a specific order:
The LIVE #1
The LIVE #2 - Transition
The LIVE Online (prequel to #3, not really required but a fun time)
The LIVE #3 - Growth
The LIVE Seiran - Blue Glitter (spin-off about characters introduced in #2 and #3, though I believe because of COVID it ended up coming out before #3 - personally I haven't watched it 'cause I don't really care, but I've heard good things)
The LIVE Edel Delight (I'll be real I know this ties in to the gacha game somehow which I don't play, so I haven't seen this either and don't really know how this fits into the timeline)
The STAGE Junior High Regalia (prequel about characters introduced in Edel Delight)
The LIVE #4 - Climax (this only came out in Japan this year so I don't think there are subtitles yet, but I'll be watching when they come out)
As for the gacha game, I don't play it but there's a lot of content which cross-references either the anime or the stage plays so I'll just direct you to this post (meant to just share the original one but Tumblr won't let me click on the original post to get the link) which also includes a guide about the viewing/playing order. Overall I think you could start playing after watching like, the anime + Gekijouban + possibly the first two stage plays?
PLEASE don't feel threatened by all of this btw. You can just watch the 12-episode anime and Gekijouban and be perfectly fine 'cause everything else is just extra. I've only watched the anime stuff and the first four stage plays I mentioned 'cause the gacha game and later stage plays add too many characters for me to keep up with

Thanks @callivich for some fun questions! and thanks to @jrooc and @zutaralesbian for the extra push to actually sit down and think about these! haha
What’s a fic you’ve read more than once?
Oh man, the better question might be is there a fic I've only read once. haha. If we are talking about fics I've reread the most then probably Cooperative Gameplay and Like Real People Do by Grayola, Sexual Harassment in the Workplace by Shamelessquestions, The Only Fans series by GallavichGeek13 and every single fic on this soulmate AU recommendation list. I am a chronic rereader - it's a problem. lol
What’s a gifset you always have to reblog?
Dock scene. Always the dock scene.
What’s a fanart you love looking at?
@darthvaders-wife's Kinktober collection is insane. I'm not ok about it.
What’s an idea you’d love to create if you had the time/inspiration?
I really loved the movie Nimona and have thought a lot about a Gallavich Goldenheart crossover. If you have not seen Nimona yet 1) I highly recommend it and 2) this probably won't make a lot of sense, but... Like does it take place during their training years? Sure. Are Mickey and Ballister childhood best friends from the wrong bloodlines to be knights? Probably. Has Ian been forced into knighthood because of his bloodline? Also probably. Do Mickey and Ian somehow meet through Ballister and Ambrosius and immediately hate each other?! For sure. Do they fall madly in love when they realize they have more in common than they originally thought?!?! Obviously!
Anyway, I am not a writer so this will just stay a lovely little idea in my head.
What’s something you’ve discovered since entering this fandom? A new trope you love? A different analysis of the show? Something else? I had only ever dabbled in fandom before this, so I had no idea soulmate AUs were a thing. And oh boy do I LOVE soulmate AUs!
What’s an underrated trope or concept you’d like to see more of?
I haven't really gone out of my way to look for any, so maybe there are a ton and I just don't know about them, but I'd love to see more historical AUs! I'm also open to recs even though I already have 20+ fics on my "to read later" list. What's one (or ten) more!
What line/dialogue/description from something else (a poem, a book, a tv show, a movie, or something else) do you feel describes Ian and Mickey’s relationship? "It had flaws, but what does that matter when it comes to matters of the heart? We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. In many ways, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect." From A Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss
What do you think is next for Ian and Mickey post-finale?
They will eventually become parents and you will never convince me otherwise. I also think Ian will eventually get out of their business and go back to school to become some type of mental health counselor or advocate or I don't know, but he needs to help people.
The original questions are here if you feel so inclined! @lupeloto, @krystallouwho, @sgtmickeyslaughter, @francesrose3, @juliakayyy, @catluvver118, @transmickey, @tanktopgallavich or anyone else!

Don't know if you remember me but hi again. Anyway to the point I had another idea for Steve deserves good parents actually. I don't know if you'll know the cartoon it was really popular in the 80s when it came out but I don't hear a lot about it now though that could just be because I don't really find myself in the circles that talk about it. But I think it'd be real neato if Steve was raised by one of the bands from 'Jem and the hologram's '. I think either 'the Misfits' (not the irl band but rather a different in universe band with the same name it a entirely female band) or 'the stingers' would be great for comedy reasons cause those bands (to my memory) are supposed to be sorta alternative rock/metal bands (I don't know if that really comes across in the music tho) and I think it's really throw everyone for a loop when they find out Steve 'preppiest jock in Indiana' Harrington was raised by a group of rockers. But it doesn't have to be them. Also if you haven't seen it watch the Jem and the hologram's cartoon it's great, I highly recommend it, it's peak 80s kids content imo (specifically the cartoon though, they made a movie sometime in the 2010s but it didn't really keep the spirit of the original cartoon from what I know.)
Actually of ALL the 80s cartoons I've seen somehow Jem and the Holograms wasn't one of them?????
Time to fucking fix that travesty
I do love this tho like rock star raised Steve still looking all preppy and Eddie teasing him for definitely not knowing anything about rock only to be introduced to Steve's parents and fucking blue screen

Ted Lasso Season One Recap
So this show has been on my to watch list thanks to @sarahtarth and @austennerdita2533 @heatherfield @asphodelandabsinthe and @mercurial-make-em-ups ALL have recommended the show to me in one form or another. It has been on the list unfortunately for years (looks at Sarah and Ashlee and Heather). But as @wauryd mentioned gambling is perhaps one avenue to get me to do something because I like being a person of my word.
Now that I've finished season 1, i wanted to share my thoughts instead of just my reactions.
Spoilers for those that haven't seen it yet
So starting simple, I want to talk about locations.
I thought the fact that it was set and filmed in a part of England that was not London was amazing! Like you see London alot in films and show and as a person that have friends in other parts of England and that thought Brighton was amazing that for them to showcase something different was amazing also Liverpool my beloved Beatles.
Producers take note you have a rich country, you can set it in other places for your modern settings!
Characters
Let me just say I love them all to some varying degrees, but I have to say...Ted is amazing and I love him so much!
Typically speaking, you do not get a guy that is genuinely nice and kind as a main character in modern shows and movies that doesn't seem fake, that doesn't somehow make you suspicious about if they're going to turn him into something else later on.
Plus he's just...relatable. He's an optimist and he's doesn't always understand, but the thing about him is he tries! He tries so hard 🥺 and he's only happy to help people, no matter how small he just wants to help.
Also I think we should all aspire to be more like Ted.
Continuing on to another character I love Rebecca. Woman is one of 3-4 women owners in a cut throat industry, who went through a horrific divorce with a douche bag of a man that has an over englated ego. GET FUCKED RUPERT!
But she's wounded, and she lashes out at Higgens (my soft boy) and herself and anyone really because she is trying to protect herself from being that hurt again.
But she learns to let go just a little, and she owns her shit (after a time and some pressure and some positive influences (keeley is that you). She is starting to learn to trust and love herself the way that Rupert never did.
I love her budding friendship with Ted, like the hugs and the just support even when she is trying to sabatoge him and the team.
The team.
MY BOYS!!! Babies all of them! (Except you Tartt you're on thin fucking ice)
Nate, nate, my beloved soft boy!! I love how he grows this season how with the confidence of Ted he is starting to come out of his shell.
Roy...Roy...dick, but at least you know it and is trying to figure it out and the way he is protective of the team <3 <3
Sam is precious and I want to just hug him. Like this boy is the sweetest and I would die for him.
Tartt is a fucking prick. He gets marginally better, and I'm hoping better as things go on, but yes keeley deserves so much better then you!
Keeley is amazing, she's strong and kind and a real stand up gal, I just want her happiness.also same keeley fucking same about Rebecca. (Renee is not straight)
The Plot
I don't get football/sports in general, I do love things that I don't fully get because that's out of my sphere of interests. But i love that it's different, that it's not the same plot as other things.
I love that it's about a migrant to a different country that has no idea about what's going on and yet is still trying his best. Putting his best foot forward and trying to help these boys be the best versions of themselves.
Especially as this is set in 2020, it is very inspiring, and I can't wait for more.

hey lumi! I just thought of another question I wanted to ask you, other than batb, which live action remake do you think is the best? I haven't seen any and I want an expert opinion 😄
oh my gosh!!!!! i’m so honored. and i’m also SO autistic so i did so much more here than you asked. but anyway i wanted to wait to answer this until today because the little mermaid (2023) just dropped on disney+ and i JUST watched it for the first time. so i can include it in my list!!
of course prefacing with these are all my personal opinions, im not a film expert (and i pray to God i never am) i just like what i like! so without further ado: my thoughts! also this is just in chronological order, not ranked.
alice in wonderland (2010) - dude!! this was SUCH a hyperfixation for me when i was a kid. somehow, batb 2017 is NOT the first live action disney movie i’ve been utterly obsessed with. this movie is so good. i love the lightly gothic, mysterious fantasy aesthetic that is has. i love the wardrobe, i want to wear every outfit alice wears. i love how dark it is, like there’s such an edge to it while still being pleasant and fun enough to respectably be a disney movie. johnny depp does a fantastic job of course, (purely discussing his acting abilities here) he truly brings the madness into the mad hatter. all the acting is fantastic though. i highly recommend this film. you don’t really need to have seen the 1951 cartoon, i hadn’t, but it doesn’t hurt to! (i don’t recommend the sequel, alice through the looking glass, though. they really should’ve quit while they were ahead on this one)
maleficent (2014) & maleficent: mistress of evil (2019) - i enjoyed both of these!! i actually liked the second one more, but either way, it’s such a fun take on sleeping beauty. and this is coming from someone who LOVES sleeping beauty 1959!! it’s different obviously but it really is a good time, absolutely worth watching.
cinderella (2015) - beautiful! lovely!! not the most exciting film honestly but i do love the aesthetics and wardrobe. it’s a really pretty, pleasant movie. i’d love to rewatch it sometime! if only disney+ had it! which it doesn’t! for some inexplicable reason!!
beauty and the beast (2017) - i know you said besides my wife but obviously i have to still list it because. that’s my wife. anyway perfect film no notes!
the nutcracker and the four realms (2018) - i wanted to like this one so much more than i did. but it was just, so weird. it derails from canon in a way that isn’t enjoyable. ah. twas a let down, for me.
christopher robin (2018) - i don’t remember much honestly but it’s cute!! certainly worth a watch, but i don’t recall anything too special about it. it did make me cry though (that’s not hard for me to do at movies, to be fair)
mary poppins returns (2018) - CANNOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH!! THIS MOVIE IS LIKE IF JOY WAS TURNED INTO A FILM!!!! AAAHHH!!! :) SO LOVELY SO WONDERFUL!!!
the lion king (2019) - :/ genuinely not worth your time. it was TOO similar to the cartoon in terms of storyline, so it felt incredibly pointless to me. plus, it’s kind of boring that they look like real lions. i felt like i was watching animal planet but then pulled out of reality whenever they spoke or sang afjskfj
aladdin (2019) - ever since i saw this, i’ve only ever had three takeaways, and i’ll say them like a compliment sandwich. 1. visually STUNNING. the colors and the choreography, the people! all very beautiful. 2. the romance was… very flat? i honestly kept forgetting there was a love story going on. when they kiss at the end i was like “OOOHHH RIGHT!!” lmao. there’s just so much other stuff going on, jasmine & aladdin’s love story really fell to the wayside for me. 3. i LOVED that they gave jasmine her own song. she’s like the only disney princess that didn’t have her own song, somehow, so i was happy they gave her one and it was SO good. i remember it giving me chills on the first listen. — so, all in all, it was fine. not the worst but also not a personal favorite. worth a watch.
mulan (2020) - BLEGH sorry i almost threw up a little. maybe the worst live action remake of all time? let’s think: what are the best parts of mulan 1998? the music? mushu? shang’s bisexuality? shang, in general?? WELL LOOK NO FURTHER BECAUSE THIS HAS NONE OF THAT!!! :) it’s genuinely just… so bad. they took the basic concept and turned it into a freaky ass action movie. they make it so mulan was like, gifted from a young age with superhuman abilities (calling it chi, which, i don’t know the full story but i believe there was some major cultural appropriation that occured) instead of just being a normal badass human!!! and it wasn’t the villain from the cartoon it was a random witch. nothing made sense and it was stripped of everything that makes mulan one of the greatest disney films of all time. *godfather voice* look how they massacred my boy.
the little mermaid (2023) - so honestly i never really liked the original cartoon. it just never clicked with me. but i had every bit of hope that this one would maybe bring it to life for me!! and… well, it wasn’t bad! it was visually lovely and the music was fun. i just don’t think i’m a “love at first sight” kind of person. but eric was an incredibly likable nerd boy, sebastian the crab was funny, and ursula was SCARY. especially at the end oh my gosh???? anyway. worth a watch, but not my personal cup of tea. ariel and eric get points for dancing a bit AND they hugged at the end which was really sweet. couples Do Not hug enough in media.
lastly, i can’t comment on: peter pan & wendy (2023), the jungle book (2016), dumbo (2019), lady and the tramp (2019), and cruella (2021), because i have not seen them. i will absolutely note though that i despise cruella 2021 in solidarity with my friend @freakwiththeknifecollection because it blatantly disregards the canon of 101 dalmatians 1961 and they couldn’t even like?? train the dogs?? for ONE scene?? huge huge mess. i’m just scratching the surface. if you want a live action cruella, look no further than 101 dalmatians 1996. top tier live action that i loved as a kid!!

~ TMNT V.S Batman April O'Neil 💛 ~
Tumblr media
non shaded version:
Tumblr media
I haven't actually yet watched the movie but I plan to. However, from the clips I've seen so far, April doesn't appear and is not even mentioned. At least I think so. Again I have not watched this movie. I will soon don't worry. So I decided why not make a design for her?
I'll admit it was hard to think of a design for her and what I should do. I settled on making her being biracial since she the movie was made in 2019, a year after rise began and since rise was the first iteration to have a black april, I decided to go with that route. I wasn't sure whether to make her an adult or nah but went with her being around her 20s (Although I don't think my design really looks like an adult woman-). Based her design similar to 2003 April and also included took some inspo from Mirage April. Gave her a small little waist bag in which she carries small objects. Unsure what she would be like in the movie since I already mentioned two damn times I haven't yet watched it. I'll figure her character out later down the line when I watch it.
Please do give me your thoughts and or critiques on whether or not I should change her design or tweak it some way. Recommend me anything you think could help out.
I do hope ya'll still somehow like this design.

(currently in the middle of reading ch.8) I've been meaning to ask this for awhile now, and this feels like the perfect chapter release to finally ask it-
What (if any) pieces of horror media would you say inspire you in your own work?
I love this question! Horror is my favorite genre, and there are a couple different things I pulled from specifically for this project.
The two biggest influences were probably the Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and the movie Girl on the Third Floor.
I really love the way that Jackson writes about the relationship between the house and Nell. It's such a slow, maddening spiral, and the house is so malevolent and also strangely entangled with her. It's such a psychological book, and the fact that Nell is an unreliable narrator really makes it that much more compelling. I also loved the way the house exists as a character and its unique way of communicating (and the terrible consequence of what it wants.) I like that it's a tragedy that couldn't be avoided, and that what the house ultimately pushes her to do is probably the biggest mercy anyone ever allowed her. I really like horror when the monster is kind in a way that is only justified by the sickness of outside circumstances somehow being worse.
Girl on the Third Floor is probably my favorite haunted house movie, again, because of how personable the house is. It's a haunted whorehouse, and the house takes on such a personality and sensuality in a way that I've never really seen done before. The way it interacts with the protagonist is so erotic and cruel, and there are so many hauntings in that movie that live in my brain rent-free even though it's been years since I've seen it. (I don't want to spoil it if you haven't seen it, but there's a specific shower scene that - I just - )
I love the visuals of Crimson Peak and the way that the ghosts are never going to leave, and how that's a fate sealed for them long before they ever become ghosts. The scariest movie I ever saw as a kid was Monster House and I think that cemented a sentient, living house in a relationship with a human being as one of the most terrifying concepts in my mind forever.
I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones that come to mind. If anyone ever has good haunted house/ghost media to recommend to me, I'm always open to adding new things to my queue.

hi mary! do you have any book recommendations for fans of the indian lake trilogy and/or horror books in general? i love your writing (followed way back for your gf fics lol) and would love to hear if theres anything in particular you'd recommend ^^
Oh hello hello hello! You've activated my trap card.
Honestly, I read less horror than I let on, and have started reading it more recently than not, so this may be a rather short list. But yeah I absolutely have some recommendations! If you enjoyed My Heart Is A Chainsaw (I really have to read the sequel) and you like my writing, I think our aesthetic and narrative sensibilities should be pretty similar, so hopefully these will be books you'll also enjoy.
First on the list and most obvious is of course My Best Friend's Exorcism, by Grady Hendrix. It's perfect companion reading for My Heart Is A Chainsaw, also being about two teenage girls navigating a difficult period in their friendship, complicated by the fact that something supernatural may or may not be trying to kill them and everyone around them, and may or may not, in fact, exist. Abby and Gretchen and their friendship are so wonderfully drawn, the absurd humour only underlines the helpless horror of their situation, and the climax made me bawl like a fucking infant. 11/10 no notes.
I'd also recommend We Sold Our Souls, also by Grady Hendrix, for some of the same and some slightly different reasons. If you were drawn in by Jade's girl-alone-against-the-world situation and her punky, horror-movie-obsessed alternative vibe, you'll like Kris Pulaski and her heavy metal quest to get her life and her music back. Another one that made me cry, and it's only getting more timely and relevant with every passing year.
I really liked Nick Medina's Sisters of the Lost Nation, about an older sister looking for her younger sister after the latter disappears from their reservation after a secret rendezvous at the recently-constructed casino. Anna and Jade share a certain 'nobody else is going to fix this, so it's up to me' sensibility, the way the author pulls together ancient mythology and modern horrors is well-crafted and spooky, and there's a deeply intentional queer thread running through this one from start to finish. Warning, though, this is a deeply, deeply sad book.
In terms of meta horror about horror, Riley Sager's Final Girls surprised me with how good and gripping it was. I picked it up expecting easy-reading paperback fluff, and got sucked right in. If you crossed over Halloween: H20 with Twin Peaks, you might get something like this book. I never see anybody talking about it anywhere ever and I have to strongly recommend it. (Unfortunately, it didn't focus as closely on the relationships between the 'final girls' as I wanted it to, but I still wasn't disappointed.)
Joe Hill's N0S48U kicked my ass and made me say 'thank you'. This one's pretty tragic, so maybe give it a miss if you don't want to read about bad things happening to characters you like, but, well, this is horror. Notable because the antagonist is Christmas-themed, and honestly, I've never seen anyone else so effectively harness the crawling feeling of Wrongness that seeing Christmas shit in July gives me.
And, going wayyyy back, one of the first horror novels I actually read all the way through (on the advice of a friend), Stephen King's The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. If you were a My Side Of The Mountain / Hatchet kind of kid, this is the book for you. And if for some obscure reason you haven't read Carrie yet, what are you waiting for.
I also read Paul Tremblay's The Pallbearers' Club, which somehow didn't quite manage to deliver on what I was hoping for, but which you might enjoy if you liked some of the other books on this list. If you like punk music and/or characters who like punk music, meta conceits, and New England folklore, give it a shot. (I think I knew a little too much about the subject matter going in for some of the big ~surprises~ to actually surprise me.)
I've also got on my TBR list Edgar Cantero's Meddling Kids, Stephen Graham Jones' The Only Good Indians, Jessica Johns' Bad Cree, and Riley Sager's The House Across The Lake and Survive the Night. I can't speak for any of them yet, though.
(And tossing a movie onto this list, you might really enjoy Netflix's The Final Girls. It's a lot fluffier than My Heart Is A Chainsaw, but for a fun meta slasher horror-mostly-comedy, it was a solid good time. With an ambush sequence that was pretty clearly inspired by Joel Schumacher's The Lost Boys!)

9 Aesthetic Albums
Was tagged by @thequeenofthewinter. Thank you. ^^ it was an interesting way to procrastinate this morning. And following your example, I'll also note my favorite songs, though not necessarily from the listed album. ^_^
Rules: Display my 9 favorite album covers for art reasons not content.
I'll tag @rainpebble3, @sixylicious and @raine-kai cause I'm curious but also Zero pressure. 💖 (if anyone else sees it, feel free to contribute).
Without further ado:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1 - SJ Tucker -Mischief. First album of hers I ever bought and looking at it still makes me smile. She has other album covers that are pretty but I adore the whimsy here. (If you're unfamiliar with her music, I highly recommend: Playing D&D and Cheshire Kitten)
2- Amaranthe -Manifest. I like most of Amaranthe's cover designs. They always include a futuristic/fantasy feeling but I really like the contrasting colors in this one. (If you haven't listened to Amaranthe, I recommend Crystalline or Amaranthine).
3- Lyriel -Leverage. Pretty Steampunk vibes here. What's not to like? ^^ (The named song from this album is a good intro to their music. But Paranoid Circus is one of my favorites (and their most popular from what I've seen. For good reason, it's enthralling)).
4- Within Temptation -The Silent Force. There are a few Within Temptation album covers I love but there's something about the contrast of the blue and black on this one that always draws me in. It's just very aesthetically pleasing. XD (If you don't know Within Temptation: Bittersweet is one of my favorite songs though it can be hard to track down. But you can't go wrong with Memories or Stand My Ground).
5- Panic! At the Disco -Pray for the Wicked. I really like the paint blending contrasted with the harsher lines of the buildings. (If you somehow haven't heard any of their songs, you can't really go wrong with High Hopes. But I gotta say... I do quite enjoy their version of Into the Unknown from Frozen 2 (still haven't seen that movie).
6- Trans-Siberian Orchestra -Night Castle. It's a castle. Can't really go wrong there. ^_^ (If you're only familiar with their holiday music I recommend: The Safest Way Into tomorrow or Night Castle).
7- Kansas -Point of Know Return. If it's not obvious by now, I enjoy whimsy. And Peter Lloyd's work here is lovely. (I'd be surprised if you don't know Kansas. But on the outside chance; Carry on Wayward Son and Dust in the Wind are well known, and fantastic. ^_^ )
8- Blind Guardian -A Twist of Myth. Now my favorite song by Blind Guardian is The Bard's Song but that's not on this album and this album cover has a Dragon, so obviously it's the better cover, lol. (Blind Guardian is well worth a listen imo. Skalds and Shadows, and the aforementioned Bard's Song are my favorites and a good intro to their style).
9- Kamelot -Silverthorn. The cover art is so pretty! The icicles, the Corvids, the dress! Just love it. (If you don't know Kamelot, I'd think that you should listen to three songs: Under Grey Skies, Silverthorn (Instrumental version) and Nothing Ever Dies to get an idea of the range their music can span).

aloha lise! i've been following you for years and i realize we somehow always end up in the same fandoms or i enjoy most of the stuff you "promote" on your tumblr! so because of your impeccable taste, i would like to ask if you have any recommendations for books and shows?
(i very much enjoyed mcu (mostly loki and stoki thanks to you HAHA), mdzs, cql, tgcf, svsss, lymond chronicles, doctrine of labyrinth...many of the same fandoms that you are in and i got to know and like many of them thanks to you!)
hello and thank you! I certainly have well-defined tastes at the very least. I have fun and that's what matters
as far as recommendations go...oh lord anon, I read...a lot, and watch somewhat less but have still watched a lot of things, and mostly the things I do fandom for are a smaller subset of the things I like. so I almost don't know where to start with this? I guess right off the bat I'm presently rewatching The X-Files which I'm very much enjoying, and if you haven't Kinnporsched yet you might give it a try. outside of that...I wrote a recs list a long time ago that was basically "my personal 'essential fantasy/scifi' list" and favorite books/favorite books of the decade posts. You can also check my #book recs tag or my #book starter kits tag.
if you haven't read The Silmarillion I'll throw The Silmarillion on here too even though it has next to nothing in common with the other things on the list you gave. I recently finished reading the Green Bone Saga by Jane Fonda and definitely recommend that. if you hang around this blog on a regular basis I've started doing monthly reading recaps going over everything I read in the prior month and a snapshot of my thoughts on it, so there might be some recs in there for you, too.
if you enjoyed MXTX's works I will recommend trying out some other danmei, of which there are...very many. I'm a big fan of 2HA or Husky and his White Cat Shizun, which is...being published officially, though slowly, and unfortunately never had a complete alternate (human) translation online. I'm really enjoying QJJ which is basically a historical epic of war and political intrigue in the classical style that happens to have gay main characters.
I'm reading LHJC and have been enjoying it but the translation has gone quiet for a while and is incomplete. :(
this is all fiction and also reading material...I read a lot of nonfiction as well. I do watch things once in a while but really I'm very bad at it. several things on my list that I'm sure I'll enjoy when I eventually get to them but just. haven't yet. of course right now I am forgetting everything I have ever watched in my entire life. Princess Mononoke and The Last Unicorn are foundational movies that shaped my personality. Le Chevalier d'Eon is the weirdest anime nobody else I know has ever seen. I've really enjoyed what I've seen of Kingdom and My Country: The New Age but haven't yet finished either.
lord, what other shows/movies have I even watched

Honestly if you're looking to get out of your shell and get intimate with other queer folk, I would recommend Grindr-
You'll get a LOT of dms from horny men, but filter through it and you'll find some really chill and sweet T4T folk on there.
I personally like grindr bc anyone you meet there will guaranteed be kinda horny and dtf, but all the transfolk I've met on there are totally chill with making friends first, with actually hooking up being an option but not like a Requirement. Heck I've made a couple of friends on grindr who I haven't gotten sexual with and maybe never will! But bc we've met on grindr theres like an understanding that horny/kinky topics aren't taboo to chat about- we've both already seen the other at The Devil's Sacrament!
In my experience grindr is just a great place to meet sweet, flirty transfems who are chill with taking things as slow or quickly as you like and don't judge weird kinks.
I mean idk ymmv based on where you live tho i guess.
Also, put that you're shy and don't know how to date in your profile- its honestly really cute idk I'd 100% click on that profile if it were me. Most of the girls I've met on grindr are autistic weirdos (affectionate) (/pos) (including myself) so I honestly doubt it would turn them off lmao.
Nobody whos T4T on grindr is looking for a "Normal" Dating Experience, so don't sweat it. just find something you both like doing and do that- watch a movie together and chat about it afterwards if you can't think of anything better (this one is great if you're like me and Bad at thinking of good conversation topics) (or just start cuddling and making out during the movie thats also a lot of fun)
Anyway thats just my two cents. Whether or not you follow my advice, just remember you're cute and worthy of love and if you put yourself out there you will find it 💜
(Heck I'd take you out myself if you lived in my city 😘)
-Slutvember
(Feel free to dm me if you wanna chat more about any of this 💜)
(Also sorry this is way longer than I meant it to be, but until pretty recently I was also a shy virgin who'd never been on a date, so I totally relate to you and wanna help you find your confidence like I did 💜)
Ugh I feel like horny men are the only thing that exist in kink spaces. At least when it comest to dming or when it comes to go to events.
Maybe I'll just have to contiue try and a kind woman will show up and I somehow would have learned enough about how to have a conversation and be interesting and good enough to get something started
And like there is a handfull on tumblr even tho always a international flight away so maybe there is more out there idk
❤️

So I've only seen a few things with Vincent Price, but your posts and tags always really make me want to watch more! Which movies of his would you recommend the most?
Oh, I'm so glad! I am quite a new fan girlie of his, there are others here who know way more about him than I do, like the lovely @ilovemesomevincentprice of course!
The more I learn about him the more I absolutely adore him, and though I haven't seen all of his work yet what I have seen has been absolutely delightful!
Dragonwyck (1946) black and white period drama based on the novel which is very good as well. Every farm girl's dream of marrying a handsome and wealthy landowner and going to live in his manor in 19th century New York. Vinny is so very dashing, and not quite the hero (that sneer!) and there is a beautiful ballroom dancing scene out on the balcony. The Cardinal catches Mouse reading this novel on his bed in sadglo after the disastrous dinner party lol.
Tumblr media
House on Haunted Hill (1959) black and white horror film. Campy, creepy, and fun, with a very sexy dysfunctional marriage, and some delicious hair-pulling. There is a 1999 remake where Geoffrey Rush plays a hammed up version of Vincent Price which is also worth a cheesy watch, though it can't hold a candle to the original. Also, how do I become a cigarette?
Tumblr media
Tales of Terror (1962) horror trilogy based on tales from Edgar Allan Poe. Some incestous vibes, comedy, and beautiful ladies swooning in terror. In my favourite tale, there is a star of a black cat and Vinny as a delightful wine taster, and lover (almost Terzo-esque). Also a horrible wtf dream sequence lol.
Tumblr media
The Haunted Palace (1963) horror film with wonderful Poe and Lovecraftian vibes. I just want to live there with him, in his candle-lit mansion. And be assaulted in my bed in the middle of the night. I think I deserve that.
Tumblr media
Twice-Told Tales (1963) another horror anthology, based on the works of Nathaniel Hawthorne (he wrote The Scarlet Letter). More incestous vibes, blood, and Vinny throwing a pretty lady to the ground! He literally slaps in this film, I don't know if he's ever been more handsome.
Tumblr media
The Comedy of Terrors (1964) horror comedy film which is an absolute delight! So good. Vinny is an absolute jerk in this, a real dick, a bastard, yet somehow you can't help but love him! Another cat (orange this time), Vinny in a waistcoat, and sexy strangulation.
Tumblr media
The Masque of the Red Death (1964) horror film with more Poe vibes. Vinny is very Cardinal in this, he plays a literal satanist! What I would give to be taken up to his castle, and persuaded to share in his unholy faith! So much sexual tension here, it's maddening.
Tumblr media
The Great Mouse Detective (1986) I had to include this animated mystery adventure sherlock film because it was one of my favs as a little girl and I didn't even know that Vinny voiced the villain! A rat, no less! In a black suit and cape! There is also a cat, lol. Vinny performs two songs in this, and he's delightful, I just love it!
Tumblr media
Vincent was so talented, and seemed to impart a sensual depth to every villain, making them much more interesting than any hero could ever be. He is so very Cardinal Copia-esque, in his looks and in his mannerisms, so my love for him just feels natural. A wonderful man, who played wonderful characters flawlessly!
Sic transit gloria mundi.

Can you tell me one of your favorite movies and how do you think the plot would change if Mono and Six from Little Nightmares appeared in it? PS if you don't know the Walking Dead game from Telltale Games or the Walking Dead Show, I recommend you to watch them if you are interested.
OKAY SO FULL DISCLOSURE I am a huge loser. I don't think I have a lot of "cool" interests or favorite movies so I'm really sorry in advance if I seem lame ahahahaha,,, (thank you for the recommendation btw!!)
But thank you for the question! I think I had a lot of favorite movies in the past that I barely remember anymore but the one that still sticks out to me to this day is Spirited Away because it reminds me of my childhood :) unfortunately though I don't think its a very interesting answer for this question because, well, LN is already inspired by Spirited Away,,,
but if Mono and Six were in the world of Spirited Away... I think Six would take on a role more like Haku's? If she were on her own I'd imagine and draw her in a role like Chihiro's, but if it's Six and Mono together, somehow I'd see Six more like Haku! Since LN2 describes her as a "guide" for Mono, plus Haku and Six share quite a few similarities, being the more reserved and practical ones of their respective duos (at least in my perspective!) Six would also be working under the Lady of the bathhouse, and I feel like people would question her motives just like Chihiro to Haku in the movie. In a Spirited Away setting I imagine them in a lot of different ways, sometimes I draw Mono as Haku, sometimes he's in Chihiro's place, sometimes he's No Face! It's just fun to jump around and explore different ideas! I'm not sure how much Six and Mono would change the plot though, because more or less I'd see them taking the same actions that Chihiro and Haku do (given the assumption that they're normal kids here and not heavily traumatized), although I haven't seen the movie in a long while so maybe I'd see things differently if I decided to delve into it more.
Thanks for the question! Sorry if my answer is a bit lacking (´ . .̫ . `)
