one of my favorite things about salome is that she sincerely doesn’t care how she is perceived for speaking in a patois. her current, learned dialect of common is still heavily influenced by her native alzhedo, but it is still nowhere near the typical form you would encounter out of someone from even the lower city. in fact, i imagine it is extremely incongruous to see it being utilized in high society at all.
some words are clipped, others swapped for same or similar variations of a multilingual variety due to the constant and vibrant cultural exchange in the poorest parts of the city, and it relies heavily on universally understood gestures that can be perceived quickly to those who don’t have full fluency.
so knowing that i headcanon salome’s accent — the one she was raised speaking — as specific to certain athkatlan calishite families of an upper-middle class or higher background? makes it all the more interesting when she doesn’t or refuses to code switch in those spaces, as she certainly could pass in them if she wanted. or simply revert back to her old manner of speaking, but she chooses not to.
it’s a rare side of herself, like most of her past that she keeps locked away, and salome doesn’t share it very often. not unless certain checkboxes get ticked off.
