The worst thing I have realized upon me having so much extension mecha knowledge despite not watching a lot of mechas and more specifically knowing how much significance Getter Robo, my favorite one, has to the genre despite no one outside of Japan talking about it much is the fact it being the first combiner is what led to fucking Voltron happening.

Because Voltron, originally known as “GoLion” in Japan, was likely based off of either Combattler V or Voltes V because they are all “mecha’s piloted by five people, and the former ABSOLUTELY was inspired off of Getter-The main pilots name is fucking Hyoma, even if that is a actual Japanese name that’s just Ryoma with the first letter change-given Getter was the first mecha to do multiple people in robots or more or less “combiner” mecha.

So if I wanted to compare Getter to something more known I could say “yeah it’s kinda like Voltron because there’s multiple people in the robot” until I remember how Voltron is literally one of the most infamous shows just thanks to its reboot and I would not be surprised that it’s probably a factor as to why people are turned off from trying mecha even if it was (technically) a western one for the reboots case.

Because as a outsider my GOD it seemed like a dumpster fire in both writing and the fandom.
