Rabbit Gazing At The Moon :: by Huang Quan (16th century).
All things coming to limit of their course reverse into their opposite or change form. This is why “tigers, deer and hares,” explains Pao-p’u-tzu [Baopu Zi], the celebrated fourth-century alchemist, “live for 800 years and then their hair turns white; they change into wolves and foxess who live 500 years, and then take human form.” -Isabelle Robinet, ‘Metamorphosis and Deliverance from the Corpse in Taoism’

Let's Go Behind The Scenes...
...with Author Nicole Comforto!
Q: Pieces of writing or writers that have inspired you as a writer?
A: There are so many! I read widely and constantly. There are countless great books out there, but the authors that keep me coming back to their novels again and again are ones that write ambitious, international stories that transport you to unexpected places: Isabel Allende, David Mitchell, Abraham Verghese, and Barbara Kingsolver, for example. I'm also a sucker for a spicy romance and can't get enough of Bridgerton and books by Jasmine Guillory, Casey McQuiston and Helen Huang. I love a good mystery — Tana French is a favorite. And I'm a big fan of humor writers like David Sedaris (the first writer I went to see speak post-pandemic!)
_
Wow! Those are some awesome folks - and hey! If you want to read something inspired by these awesome genre writers, take a peek at Agent Ella, on StoryLoom! Don't want to hop onto your computer to take a look? No problem! StoryLoom has launched the mobile app. Read Agent Ella on your phone, tablet, or other mysterious piece of tech that you have on hand.

There are plenty of complete filmed opera performances available on YouTube, which you can watch for free. Unfortunately, not all of them have English subtitles, but if necessary, you can always find a translation of the libretto online to follow along with.

Books by BIPOC Authors August 2023
🦇 I grew up surrounded by a melting pot of cultures, diverse communities, and unique experiences. Despite the different sources of those multicultural voices, their stories still covered universal topics of colonialism, migration, identity, and race. Each story was another flavor, another sweet spice adding to that melting pot. Today, we have books by BIPOC authors that put those unique voices to the page. If you're interested in traveling to different worlds, whether familiar or foreign, here are a few books by BIPOC authors to add to your TBR! 🦇
