Retelling The Hobbit Chapter 16: The Song of the Lonely Mountain First chapter / Previous / Next

*crumbles into dust after finishing this* Thank you for reading! This The Hobbit webcomic adaptation thing takes a lot of effort to put together and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate every comment. I also really appreciate the people who’ve spread the word of this comic to their friends! <3
And finally, we’re at the Song of the Lonely Mountain! Within Tolkien’s canon, The Hobbit is an in-universe book that was “written” by Bilbo Baggins, who occasionally lies/embellishes/exaggerates things. The tonal differences between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings are explained by Bilbo and Frodo/Sam being different kinds of storytellers, with different relationships to “the truth.” This idea is the core of how I’m adapting the novel!  Bilbo is an unreliable narrator who is literally ‘drawing’ from his own limited experiences;  the different art styles reflect the different perspectives of other characters.   The “dwarf art style” in this chapter is inspired by stonework/metalwork in general— but especially by a mix of art deco, Celtic art, and European folk art.
The central tension of the comic is between Bilbo and Thorin, who each have wildly different ideas about what kind of  story they’re in. Thorin is in a grand fantasy epic, while Bilbo is in a lighthearted children’s book adventure.  The tragedy is, obviously, that only one side of the story ever gets to be fully told.
On a sillier note, a few years ago I had my first gay crush on a lesbian who sang while playing the piano. This chapter is dedicated to the piano lesbian. I hope they’re doing well, wherever they are. XD
I think I might need a bit of a break but I’m hoping for the next chapter, titled “Dawn,” to arrive on January 13th. And your comments/support really do help motivate me to get more done! ^_^

Marking Time In Valoran
Since there isn’t really a defined in-universe measurement of time in Runeterra beyond the fact that in the old, now-non-canon Journal of Justice they used Gregorian calendar months, I decided that Flashbangs would use a barebones basic Calendar of my own making.
Marks of Valoran
Mark Judica — Marks the time when the orbit of Runeterra’s sun has become closer to the Spring Equinox than it is to Winter Solstice. The beginning of Mark Judica is celebrated as the standard New Year in greater Valoran among Demacia, Noxus, Piltover, & Zaun.
Mark Auria — Marks the time when the orbit of Runeterra’s sun has become closer to the Summer Solstice than it is to Spring Equinox. The beginning of Mark Auria is celebrated as a time of life, and Auriel Festivals are held throughout many nations.
Mark Argentia — Marks the time when the orbit of Runeterra’s sun has become closer to the Autumn Equinox than it is to Summer Solstice. The beginning of Mark Argentia is a celebration of the end of the hottest season, as well as the legendary Progress Day!
Mark Umbra — Marks the time when the orbit of Runeterra’s sun has become closer to the Winter Solstice than it is to Autumn Equinox. Lustris is celebrated with a holiday of rest and remembrance as the winter approaches in full.
A Runeterran Year is a measure of 336 total days. Each Mark is approximately 84 days, divided into 3 months, totaling 12 weeks of 7 days each.
I named the Marks after four of the canonical major constellations in League lore, they are, in order, the Constellations of: The Judicator, The Golden Sister, The Silver Sister, and The Trickster.
Lorewise, for my world, I decided that the Calendar system would have been originally devised by Demacia, since the kingdom has had the longest-running consistent history with no major breaks in the line of rulership, whereas Noxus was canonically made up of a coalition of tribal warbands that eventually formed an imperial war machine. Noxus’ constant conflicts with Demacia led to them actually adopting the Demacia Calendar system both because it was useful to know how their enemies marked time, and because it was an efficient means of doing so themselves.
Piltover uses the system because it was a melting pot of cultures, many of which came from Demacia and Noxus originally. Although there was some immigration from Ionia and Bandle City, the simple regional logic says that the majority of the original migrants who founded Piltover would have been local to the continent, so the Demacia Calendar felt logical.
Anyway, this was a lot of random lore that really has very little to do with my story beyond providing some interesting background information for how my thought processes work! Just in case anyone cares!
Cheers!

Fire Nation Royal Family Approx. Ages
A question by @mydelusionpanda: One last question, how old are Ozai and Ursa to be in your last fanart (them cuddling in bed ) ? When did they become parents?
In the RotD AU (canon applicable), Ozai would be born in the year 55 AC, and Ursa would be several years younger than him (7 years difference or less), in 48 AC. They got married when Ozai and Ursa was at 29 and 22 years old respectively. (Year 84 AC)  They had Zuko in that same year (It’s been awhile since any royal birth), and 2 years later Azula. (3 years into their marriage). I’d think that they’d have short but happy period of marriage and family life before things took an ugly turn. I’d also think that Iroh would be 15-20 years older than Ozai, and Lu Ten would be around 12-15 when Zuko was born. Most of this is in approximation, but I guess it should be able there, if my calculations aren’t incorrect. @mydelusionpanda

I'm curious: when you write for Max, how do you typically write him in terms of his success? Like how long was Black Gold around, or how famous/well-known was he? Did he have any initial success that made him money? How long did it take for Black Gold to become as rundown and desperate as it was by 84?
Yeah so, I do actually have a timeline thing set out in my head. You know when we see him in the flashback, with brown hair and he’s setting out his new office? That is clearly early to mid 70s judging by his fashion and the kinda suit he is wearing. So let’s say it’s between 10-15 years before 1984.
I think Maxwell worked hard during this time, harder than his fellow colleagues and associates. He wanted to make a difference. His whole life he had been desperate to be someone and so he put his absolute all into his company. Until finally, he striked gold. Because yes, I whole heartedly believe he did have success at one point. Something happened that made him known to be “the oil guy” on television. I think the perfect example of what I call his rich era, is his informerical on the television, which I feel as though came out early 80s? (again, judging by the fashion).
But Max is clearly younger, significantly in the informerical. His hair is longer and styled differently. It might be the makeup he’s wearing but he just looks younger. I think he got extremely sucessful, and very rich, fast. But it didn’t last long. With the cold war and all. The oil wells dried up. We know the story from that point on. Then we see him in 84, stress lines and tired eyes. Our man just needs a few winks of sleep, I think.
Unfortunately, I feel as though BGC lost almost everything within maybe half a year to a year of Maxwell’s initial success? Even in his conversations with Simon Stagg, he talks about how he realised there was no oil in the fields but he was almost too proud to do something about it. That he should’ve looked at the data, but he simply didn’t. A hard worker like Maxwell would have looked at the data at one point but in admist all his fame and glory, he became blinded and he just didn’t. And that’s where he messed up— or at least started to mess up.
So in some kind of messy conclusion, by the time of BGC’s dissolvement, the company had been around approximately 15-20 years. I think it’s fair to assume Max is around 20 in the flashback, so. That would bring his canon age between 35-45. Max is one of Pedro’s more older looking characters but I genuinely believe a big part of that is due to the stress and anxiety Maxwell goes through during the movie. It ages him. He did have success, he did have a rich era where he owned a yacht and maybe a country club and a spa in the suburbs. Man was loaded at one point.
We can also look at Alistair, who I hc to be around six years old. I think that’s a fair enough assumption? Born in ’78? There’s a good chance Maxwell was pretty successful or at least on his way to being sucessful when baby mama got knocked up. And then he was. Until he wasn’t. And I wonder if, maybe, his loss of money and fortune was an attribute that led to his divorce which I assume was not long before ’84.
It’s all headcanons but I do try and hyper analyse canon to draw my conclusions. I hope this made sense! Xx

Comics Masterlist: Batman/Bruce Wayne (1939-2000)
Tumblr media
This guide was made to document every one of Batman’s canon appearances in comic books, giving new readers a starting point and to aid continuing readers in choosing what they may want their next comic to be. To be more specific, this post catalogs nearly everything from Batman’s debut in 1939 to 2000, covering approximately sixty-one years of the character. To give viewers a better idea of Batman’s evolution throughout his long history, descriptions of the character’s general status during each era of comics is provided. More will be included at a later date, and this guide will be refined to become as comprehensive as possible. However, it should be noted that issues featuring reprints, alternative depictions (Super-Sons, Batman's brother, future depictions, etc.), Elseworlds, Imaginary Stories, cameo appearances, and spin-off comics will not be included in this guide. On a more personal note, I have been sort of secretly making this masterlist for some time now due to several of my personal friends’ interest in Batman comics. They often tell me they don’t know where to start, so I felt it would be best to give them something to go by. In creating the guide, I felt it would greatly benefit others with the same dilemma. Enjoy your reading and be sure to send me a message in my ask box if you’re curious, confused, if there’s a mistake, or anything else. I’ll try my best to answer in a timely manner. The Golden Age of Comics (1938-1955)
Tumblr media
The impact of Superman created a wave of new superheroes. One of those characters, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, would become known as the Bat-Man in his initial appearance. His stories had a moody and grim atmosphere to them, setting him apart from the more colorful superheroes. His origin would be first presented in Detective Comics #33 (September 1939) where he would vow to crusade against crime after his parents’ death at the hands of a mugger. Early on, Batman would occasionally use lethal methods such as using a gun or killing criminals. It wouldn’t come as a surprise, for Finger patterned him after pulp heroes of the time such as the Shadow or the Phantom. This would change after Batman’s first year of publication and he would develop his famous moral code. Robin would make his first appearance in Detective Comics #38 (April 1940) after Batman’s initial year. The Dynamic Duo, from then on, would become iconic during the 1940s for their adventures. While investigating various cases, Batman and Robin would develop a hefty rogues gallery. Throughout the forties, several iconic supervillains made their debuts including Professor Hugo Strange (1940), the Joker (1940), the Cat/Catwoman (1940), Clayface/Basil Karlo (1940), the Scarecrow (1941), the Penguin (1941), Two-Face (1942), Tweedledum and Tweedledee (1943), the Riddler (1948), Mad Hatter (1948), Deadshot (1950), Killer Moth (1951), and Firefly (1952). Comics had begun to falter in terms of popularity by the late forties and would continue to worsen during the fifties. It became a common sentiment among the public that comics were partly to blame for juvenile delinquency. This would culminate in the release of the book Seduction of the Innocent (1954), which would fuel the belief that comics were promoting juvenile delinquency, among other things. Despite the questionable evidence of the book, it would be instrumental in prompting the formation of the Comics Code Authority. Most of Batman’s appearances can be found in Detective Comics (200), Batman (96), World’s Finest Comics (79), Star Spangled Comics (14), and other titles (2). 1. Detective Comics #27 (May 1939) – Debut of Batman/Bruce Wayne and Commissioner Gordon 2. Detective Comics #28 (June 1939) 3. Detective Comics #29 (July 1939) 4. Detective Comics #30 (August 1939) 5. The Silver Age of Comics (1956-1970)
Tumblr media
The fifties were a rough decade for the Dark Knight due to a variety of issues. The introduction of the Comics Code Authority, sales were beginning to plummet, and worries of cancellation loomed. For much of the fifties, to increase sales, Batman was taking on fantastical and science fiction elements more reminiscent of Superman. Most of Batman’s famous supervillains like Joker, Penguin, or Catwoman did not make many appearances while aliens and monsters invading Gotham would be commonplace. The first incarnation of the Bat Family would be established with the debuts of Batwoman/Kathy Kane (1956) and Bat-Girl/Bette Kane (1961). Other notable characters made their first appearances as well with Ace the Bat-Hound (1955) and Bat-Mite (1959). The former debuted right at the end of the Golden Age, however. These additions to the mythos would only last for a short period before editor Julie Schwartz, Carmine Infantino, and others would reinvigorate the character with the “New Look” direction in 1964. The revamp brought back more of the crime and detective elements that Batman had become known for. While the first Bat Family was removed, Commissioner Gordon’s daughter, Barbara Gordon, would be the next Batgirl (1967). A new set of villains would make their debut in the mythos such as Calendar Man (1958), Mr. Zero/Mr. Freeze (1959), Clayface/Matt Hagen (1961), Catman (1963), Blockbuster (1965), the Cluemaster (1966), Poison Ivy (1966), and Copperhead (1968). Sales would improve due to the revamp and popularity of the sixties television show, but they would gradually decrease again. The campy approach would lead to a desire for a darker Batman. Most of Batman’s appearances can be found in Detective Comics (173), Batman (119), World’s Finest Comics (107), Justice League of America (75), The Brave and the Bold (26), and other titles (41). 1. The Bronze Age of Comics (1970-1985)
Tumblr media
Starting with Batman #217 (December 1969), Batman would slowly return to his darker days. The end of the Silver era would naturally transition to the Bronze era, taking Batman into a new direction. Though, this new direction wasn’t exactly new, it was the decision to go back to the grim feeling of Batman from the period of 1939-1940. This period of Batman would set the template for the modern interpretations that would follow. Renewing the character again, Julie Schwartz would lead the effort to bring back the original Batman. Instead of the campy character previously seen, Batman would now be the fearsome “creature of the night” again and rely more on his masterful detective skills and athleticism rather than gimmicky gadgets. It would also be a time where Batman would receive more serious characterization to humanize the character. Of the most acclaimed teams to work on the character, this period was subject to several of them. Denny O’Neil and Neal Adams would work on the character primarily in the early seventies, becoming instrumental in bringing back the dark version of the character. Bob Haney and Jim Aparo’s work on The Brave and the Bold cemented Aparo’s legacy as one of the most beloved Batman artists. The late seventies would give way to the trio of Steve Englehart, Marshall Rogers, and Terry Austin in their legendary run on Detective Comics, which would be credited by some as being the “definitive” Batman. After Dick Grayson’s retirement as Robin, Batman would take in a new protégé named Jason Todd (1983). Batman’s rogues’ gallery would expand with the debuts of Man-Bat (1970), Talia al Ghul (1971), Ra’s al Ghul (1971), the Spook (1973), Dr. Phosphorus (1977), Rupert Thorne (1977), Clayface/Preston Payne (1978), Maxie Zeus (1979), Killer Croc (1983), and Black Mask (1985). Most of Batman’s appearances can be found in Batman (165), Detective Comics (157), The Brave and the Bold (111), Justice League of America (108), World’s Finest Comics (100), Batman and the Outsiders (29), and other titles (106). 1. The Modern Age of Comics (1986-2000)
Tumblr media
After the crisis event, the Modern Age would build upon the dark and grim foundations left by the Bronze Age. More storylines would revolve around gruesome themes or content. The Comics Code Authority, due to various reasons, had lost most of its ability to censor comics. This era would lead to the continuing development of Batman into the dark avenger. However, it would be a time for Batman to suffer a lot of torment as well. Frank Miller would contribute the influential out-of-continuity storyline of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns but would also write the essential canon tale of “Year One.” Other influential stories would be introduced to the mythos such as Batman: The Killing Joke and “A Death in the Family” story arc. They would lead to the crippling of Barbara Gordon (1988) and the death of Jason Todd (1989). The nineties would contain several important storylines for Batman such as Knightfall (1993-1994), Prodigal (1994-1995), Contagion (1996), Legacy (1996), The Long Halloween (1996-1997), Cataclysm (1998), and No Man’s Land (1998-2000). New mini projectors 2019
Tumblr media
The rapid development of semiconductors allowed companies to develop portable LED projectors using LEDs as light sources. As known, their practically do not heat up and do not require a large internal volume for heat dissipation. As a result, compactness has become one of their main advantages. In addition, their service life varies from 20,000 to 30,000 hours, which corresponds to approximately 10 years of active use. Today, companies usually produce modern LED projectors in the form of a compact thin parallelepiped, which easily fits even in your pocket. Moreover, the modern market also offers smartphones with the function of an integrated projector. As known, maintaining high competitiveness requires a constant expansion of the range in almost all segments of consumer electronics. Of course, pico projectors are fully consistent with this trend. Therefore, leading companies regularly present their new models on the market. 2019 was no exception. This year, the range of pico projectors has also expanded significantly. Of course, the format of the review does not allow us to consider their complete list. But it contains the most promising models. This list includes: - Canon Rayo S1 WVGA Pocket Projector; - AAXA P7 Projector; - Miroir Ultra Pro Projector M631; - WOWOTO Portable Projectors; - ELEPHAS GC333 (YG600) Full HD 1080p Portable Home Theater Projector. As a rule, any new consumer electronics usually has a maximum price in the first year of its appearance on the market. Therefore, they rarely come in TOPs from experts. In addition, they do not have positive consumer reviews and therefore are not Best Sellers. Nevertheless, they are interesting for those buyers who prefer the latest innovative models when choosing the optimal mini projector.
Canon Rayo S1 WVGA Pocket Projector
Of course, this Japanese brand does not require the introduction. In January 2019, the company introduced its new Canon Rayo S1 WVGA pocket projector. This model with brightness of 100 ANSI lm, 854 x 480 resolution and contrast ratio of 800: 1 (full on / off) costs nearly $ 260. Its optics with Throw Ratio of 1.60: 1 (D: W) provides the maximum projection at up to 84 inches diagonally at 10 ft. But such an image, probably, will be very dim due to the insufficient Lumen Output. Actually, its Estimated Image Brightness reaches of 72 nits and more only for projections with sizes up to 40" diagonally in rooms with low ambient light (https://www.projectorcentral.com/Canon-Rayo_S1-projection-calculator- pro.htm). The weight and size of this ultra compact square model model do not exceed 4 x 4 in and 0.5 pounds (0.22 kg), respectively.
Tumblr media
Moreover, the list of its pros includes: -WiFi connectivity; -Android OS with built-in web browser and Canon Camera Connect app; -4 GB Internal Memory; - 3 W Bluetooth speaker; - a smart touchpad; - compatibility with some wireless gadgets; - support to connect and mirror a smartphone or tablet; - on-screen QWERTY keyboard to type; - built-in power bank for charging; - low Audible Noise up to 18.0 dB. Unfortunately, the projector does not provide Digital Keystone and does not have autofocus. Given the relatively low price and the brand’s excellent reputation, these key features provide it with good market prospects. The video at the end demonstrates its capabilities.
AAXA P7 Projector
As known, AAXA Technologies Inc is one of the leaders in this segment. In February 2019, this company introduced the AAXA P7 1080p Home Theater Mini Projector. List of its pros includes brightness of 600 ANSI Lm at native 1080p (1920 x 1080) Full HD resolution with contrast 2,000: 1 and multiple connectivity options.
Tumblr media
In addition, its Throw Ratio of 1.20: 1 (D: W) provides 98"@ 102 inch for optimal 58 nits at Screen Gain of 1,2 (low ambient light). But, of course, video quality decreases when projection size is increased to the maximum. At Screen Gain of 1.0, the projector provides an optimal 60 nit only for a screen of no more than 88" diagonally. Moreover, the projector supports vertical digital keystone, has 2.0 W × 2 speakers, Memory Card Reader and tripod, and its Lamp Life reaches 30,000 hours. Additionally, the model can use the powerful 38 Watt Lithium-Ion Battery, which is sold separately. At the same time, the size and weight of the model does not exceed 4,7 x 4,4 x 2,7 in and 1,4 lbs, which is excellent results for such specs. Today, this model successfully competes in its segment and costs nearly $ 400.
Miroir Ultra Pro Projector M631
Of course, Miroir USA, LLC also does not require the introduction. This company has over 15 years experience in the projection display technology in close partnership with Texas Instruments. The Miroir Ultra Pro Projector M631 appeared in January 2019 and belongs to a higher class compared to previous Miroir mini projectors. It's a very portable, native-1080p projector with brightness of 700 ANSI lm, contrast of 1,000:1 (full on/off), two HDMI ports and a USB C port. Its weight and dimensions do not exceed 1.5 x 9.5 x 5.4 in and 1.98 lbs. But, of course, these specs are more suited to mini-projectors than pico.
Tumblr media
As known, Miroir positions this model as an accessory for the iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Apple TV. But the USB C port provides connection to almost any modern device. Its advantages include a 1080p native resolution with support for 4K input at up to 30 Hz, screen size from 20 to 120 inches diagonally, motorized focus and auto-keystone correction ± 40°, ease of use (controls only for focus, volume, source and power level), two built-in 3-watt speakers, USB charging port, inverting function for a ceiling mount, two HDMI ports and one USB-C. However, some experts consider a limited set of settings a disadvantage. Unfortunately, the price of this model reaches $ 650, which significantly exceeds the cost of other models under this brand. But it corresponds to such class.
WOWOTO P5 Portable Projector
As known, Chinese Shenzhen Wowoto technology Co., Ltd. is a developer and manufacturer of LED projectors since 2006. Today the company offers more than ten DLP LED models with Android OS, the brightness of which ranges from 50 to 700 ANSI lm, native resolution from 854 x 480 to 1920 x 1080, and throw ratio range from 0,25 to 1,6. This spring, the company introduced the WOWOTO P5 Portable Smart DLP Full HD 1080p 3D Projector and the WOWOTO H10 Mini Video Projector, DLP Android 6.0. WOWOTO P5 has a stylish extravagant design with size and weight of 9.7 x 4.1 x 1.2 in and 1.3 lbs, respectively.
Tumblr media
It has built-in Android 4.4 OS and uses DLP advanced IntelliBright algorithms. WOWOTO P5 provides brightness of 400 ANSI lm, has a native resolution of 1280 x 800 and supports 1080p (1920 × 1080). Its contrast ratio reaches 10,000: 1 (full on / off). In addition, the projector has a dual 10W 360° speaker and supports 3D movies. According to the company, projection size ranges from 50 to 200 inches. But it seems doubtful. A brightness of 400 ANSI lm is unlikely to provide sufficient image saturation for maximum screen sizes, even in a completely darkened room. Such an image is likely to be too dim. Built-in 15600mAh battery delivers up to more than 4 hours playtime on a single charge. Of course, this is a great result. Moreover, the projector supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection, providing an excellent set of connections.
Tumblr media
Today, this model costs nearly $ 430.
WOWOTO H10 Mini Video Projector
WOWOTO H10 became the second novelty of 2019 from this company. H10 has a more traditional design.
Tumblr media
It's $ 70 more expensive and costs nearly $ 500. H10 also supports 1080p resolution and 3D videos. But its Lumen Output reaches 450 ANSI lm. In addition, this model provides vertical Auto/Manual Keystone ±40° and uses upgraded Android 6.0 OS.
ELEPHAS GC333 (YG600) Full HD 1080p Projector
American consumers have been familiar with ELEPHAS projectors since 2017. Unprecedented low prices and high enough quality have provided them with great popularity. Today, this company is the world's largest producer of budget projectors. It has more than 10 years of experience in the audiovisual industry. Additionally, the company specializes in the design and manufacturer of digital cinema, projector screens, projector stands, 3D glasses, and Bluetooth speakers. The range of its projectors includes S1, RD606, YG500, YG400, BL45, T20, YG600, CL760 series and the company continues to actively expand it. 2019 was no exception. In particular, in February 2019, the company introduced the ELEPHAS GC333 (YG600) Portable Home Theater Projector.
Tumblr media
GC333 provides multifunctional connection and is compatible with TV Box/ Roku Stick/ Chromecast/ Laptop/ DVD/ PS3/ Xbox/ via HDMI input, PC via VGA slot, and USB drive via USB jack.
Tumblr media
Optional HDMI adaptor provides connection to smart phone. According to the company, the model provides a brightness of several hundred ANSI lm (3600 Lux) at 1280 x 800 native resolution (1080p supported) with a contrast of 3,000: 1 (full on / off). Projector optics provides a display size up to 200". But, of course, the colors saturation decreases with increasing size.
Tumblr media
But these specs seem dubious given the price of only $ 85. Otherwise, this unprecedented dumping will please many potential buyers. Built-in dual HI-FI level stereo speakers deliver booming sound of high enough quality. In addition, ELEPHAS provides a 3-years warranty and has the approval certificates with CE FCC RoHS. The best mini projector right now
This review is updated regularly with new models Last updated: August 30, 2019 As known, traditional projectors use powerful lamps as a light source. Unfortunately, they have a limited resource and high cost. In addition, their high heat dissipation requires a large internal volume and a powerful cooling system with a high noise level. But the rapid development of semiconductors has greatly expanded the capabilities of engineers, allowing them to develop LED projectors using LEDs as light sources.
Introduction
As known, LEDs and laser LEDs practically do not heat up and do not require a large internal volume for heat dissipation. As a result, compactness has become one of their main advantages. In addition, their service life varies from 20,000 to 30,000 hours, which corresponds to approximately 10 years of active use. Of course, these factors led to the rapid development of the portable LED projector segment. As a rule, companies produce modern models in the form of a compact thin parallelepiped, which easily fits even in your pocket. However, the modern market also offers other form factors, for example, Nebula Capsule or Rif6 cube projectors, and even smartphones with the function of an integrated projector. Usually, companies use the terms mini, pico, pocket, etc to denote them. Therefore, their classification by name is rather arbitrary. However, we can use the classification in terms of their portability. Of course, in this case, size and weight are some of the main criteria. Usually, projectors weighing up to 1 lb are classified as piko or porket models. The upper bounds for mini models vary in the range from 1 lb to 5 lb. But each consumer individually defines this criterion for himself. Of course, a portable projector should provide the ability to conveniently download content and sufficiently long battery life. Therefore, connectivity and battery capacity are important criteria when choosing such a model. As a rule, modern portable models support various connections, including, for example, HDMI, USB, TF Card, WiFi, AV for iPhone, iPad, Mobile Phone, Laptop, MacBook, PC and provide work from 2 hours or more on battery power. But, of course, these features significantly affect the model price.
TOPs
Of course, the selection criteria for any consumer electronics are always individual. Some consumers attach great importance to new products, preferring the latest models. Other buyers are guided by the opinions of experts, who usually focus on objective specs of devices. But many users prefer to form their opinions on the basis of consumer reviews, which, most often, depend on the price / quality ratio of the model. As a result, the contents of these TOPs are usually different. This review offers all of these options. As a rule, most market leaders regularly present their new models on the market. 2019 was no exception. This year, the range of pico projectors has also expanded significantly. The list of most promising mini projectors 2019 contains the following models: - Canon Rayo S1 WVGA Pocket Projector; - AAXA P7 Projector; - Miroir Ultra Pro Projector M631; - WOWOTO Portable Projectors; - ELEPHAS GC333 (YG600) Full HD 1080p Portable Home Theater Projector. Of course, any TOP from experts is always subjective. Nevertheless, most successful models are present in many lists, which, of course, testifies to the objectivity of their assessment. Such TOP list of mini projectors 2019 includes: - Anker Nebula Mars II; - Optoma ML750ST; - Asus ZenBeam E1; - ViewSonic M1; - Vivitek Qumi Q3 Plus; - AAXA P2-A. Usually, consumers pay more attention to price, advertising, warranty, technical support, etc. Today their list contains: - VANKYO LEISURE 3 Mini Projector; - DR. J Professional HI-04; - DBPOWER Mini Projector; - QKK (2019 Upgrade) Mini Projector; - TOPVISION Mini Projector.
Canon Rayo S1 WVGA Pocket Projector
Of course, this Japanese brand does not require the introduction. In January 2019, the company introduced its new Canon Rayo S1 WVGA pocket projector. This model provides Lumen Output of 100 ANSI lm at 854 x 480 resolution with a contrast ratio of 800: 1 (full on / off). A lens with Throw Ratio of 1.60: 1 (D: W) provides the maximum projection at up to 84 inches diagonally at 10 ft. Unfortunately, such an image will be very dim even in a well-darkened room due to the insufficient brightness of the projector. Actually, its Estimated Image Brightness reaches of 72 nits and more only for projections with sizes up to 40" diagonally for rooms with low ambient light (https://www.projectorcentral.com/Canon-Rayo_S1-projection-calculator- pro.htm). The weight and size of this ultra compact square model model do not exceed 4 x 4 in and 0.5 pounds (0.22 kg), respectively. Moreover, the list of its pros includes: -WiFi connectivity; -Android OS, built-in web browser and Canon Camera Connect app; -4 GB Internal Memory; - 3 W Bluetooth speaker; - a smart touchpad; - compatibility with select wireless gadgets, including mouse and keyboard; - support to connect and mirror a smartphone or tablet; - on-screen QWERTY keyboard to type; - built-in power bank for charging. Audible Noise does not exceed 18.0 dB. Unfortunately, the projector does not provide Digital Keystone and does not have autofocus. But projector warranty reaches 3 years. Given the relatively low price of nearly $ 260 and the brand’s excellent reputation, these key features provide it with good market prospects.
Anker Nebula Mars II
As known, Anker is the global leader in charging technology, including wireless charging, car charging, etc. In addition, in past few years, this company produces smart projectors under the Nebula brand. Today, the line of their portable models includes the Nebula Mars and Nebula Capsule series. In the spring of 2018, the company introduced Nebula Mars Lite and Nebula Mars II. They have the same design, size and weight (14 cm x 12 cm x 18 cm and 3.3 lbs). Both projectors provide brightness of 300 ANSI Lm at 1280 x 720 (16:9, HD) resolution with contrast of 1,000:1 (full on/off). In addition, they have powerful 10.0 W × 2 speakers. According to the company, their Throw Ratio of1.20:1(D:W) provides from 40" @1.15 m up to 100" @3.08 m. On the other hand, the company indicates a range Projection Size 30 -150 in, but warns that 150" is the maximum picture size and will only be clear and saturated in very low-lighting. Additionally, both models provide single-second autofocus and vertical Auto Keystone Correction ±40°. Moreover, Nebula Mars II is a smart model (Android 7.1) and supports Miracast, Streaming Apps, etc. Of course, Android 7.1 OS which comes with popular streaming apps, including Amazon Video, Netflix, and Youtube, is its significant pros. The list of its connectivity contains HDMI, USB, Bluetooth, WiFi-enabled with Android 7.1 and a 3.5 mm audio jack. 12,500mAh battery provides roughly four hours of video playtime. Unfortunately, Mars II will not be able to provide high quality in a well-lit room, but in a dark room its brightness provides an excellent result. Today Nebula Mars II costs nearly $ 500.
Vankyo Leisure 3 Projector
Today, this model is the undisputed leader among buyers. As known, the projectors under this brand first appeared on the market in December 2017. Today the company offers several series, including LEISURE, PERFORMANCE, PASSPORT, and BURGER SERIES. Leisure series contains Vankyo Leisure 3 and Vankyo Leisure 510 models. Vankyo Leisure 3 became Best Seller in Amazon in 2018 and continues to lead in popularity in the budget segment. At an unprecedentedly low price less than $ 90, this projector supports 1080p, projects an image width up to 170 inches, has Dual Speakers and provides ± 15 ° Keystone Correction. But its native resolution is only 800 x 480. The projector's contrast reaches 2,000: 1 (full on / off). Of course, these specs may seem exaggerated given the very low price. But, given the huge number of positive reviews, this model can be unprecedented dumping, which will please many potential buyers. Its projection distance varies between 4.9 ft to 16.4 ft. But a company recommends 6.5 ft for maximum image quality. In addition, the model provides 2400 Lux, which corresponds to approximately 75 Lm (LED Beam Angle: 120 °). This model uses the efficient MStar Advanced Color Engine. According to the company, it increases brightness by 60%. Connection Panel contains MemoryCard, USB and HDMI (MHL). But connecting to iPhone requires an extra Lightning to HDMI adapter (not included). When connect with android phone, you need an extra Micro USB/Type C to HDMI adapter (not included). Unfortunately, the model does not have a built-in battery and runs on an AC power cord. Of course, this greatly limits its use, for example, in the yard.
Conclusion
- Canon Rayo S1 WVGA Pocket Projector will be interesting for fans of the latest innovations; - Anker Nebula Mars II provides excellent performance with an excellent brand reputation; - Vankyo Leisure 3 is simply an unprecedented bargain. We sincerely wish you the Right Solution! This video offers unboxing and setup of Vankyo Leisure 3 mini projector. Read the full article
