i like how prophetic dreams and prophecies in itself different from visions are interpreted in different ways and in diff directions but also by different people for eg stannis and Mel, Rhaegar and dany or other targaryen kings. Jojen and bran, Cersei and Maggy etc...
Melisandre usually tumbles and makes mistakes she sees what she sees but not exactly she wants to see what should be accurate considering how her major azhor ahai is stannis, was a mistake and an error. However recently we know she sees snow in flames. jon. but im skeptical about him being prince that was promised or AA, when you have....daenerys right here. But she still commits mistakes idk maybe rh'ollor is lil unhinged and is messing with her, but no. i think she is prone to change and her prophecies change too. Mel doesn't stick up to one interpretation and pretty sure will leave stannis in long run if she believes who is AA to her.
But stannis, is stubborn and crude. As a skeptic and well part atheist, he took her words and religious ventures too seriously and has attached with the prophecy too vehemently as if he has to be AA at any cost not knowing prophecy can't matter in the end even, but its so funny to me he risked most of the stuff for red priestess who just came to her and is like, "ight u be the king cuz u have targaryen blood"
Jojen reeds dreams are like mostly about starks and wolves and how they will come back again and when bran and others ask him if what he sees can be changed, he says no. which means him seeing something can be finalized testament or something that will happen one way or other since starks coming back or wolves coming back, is like obvious thing since they have their might broken. Bran is currently well being trained by bloodraven so his views weren't yet in first books but evolved with time.
And my fav part is cersei's prophecy of valonqar and maggy. She is destined or was to marry king not prince and she would have 3 children while robert 16 bastards, and we never knew and it was strange to me how lannisters never acquired or were even mildly amused by idea of magic all the way but cersei going to a witch when she was in casterly rock with her companions was like a major twist for me since i never assumed her to be like that, however she knows her fate will end by valonqar and a young more beautiful queen (def dany) will replace her and take what she holds dear. However cersei's reaction to this prophecy when she herself asks witch to tell her fortune is volatile. She takes to anger and resists it from coming true. She even shapes her life and everything according to not letting the prophecy come true but it follows her to in a way that she does marry robert and has 3 children by incestuous relationship. At the very best however, she avoids it because she hates the truth of it. She steers away from it.
Rhaegar is a different matter to me. I like how he was born as melancholic and amidst grief during tragedy of summerhal and well overall, for me had tragic demise but he took the prophecy too serious differently than stannis even. He made sure to follow and correct it and apply it aptly on his marital life and social life. He even kind of got too carried away and dreamy with it that he didn't himself realise the situation changing with Robert's rebellion and everything happening. Rhaegar however we knew was kind of intellectual and sensual personality so maybe he took the targaryen grief of years of no dragons too seriously too. And in the end well...prophecy really didn't work for him and most of his actions failed him and those around.
Dany is so different in this regards tbh. She is part of two prophecies for me the 'prince that was promised' and AZHOR AHAI. and the last 'younger more beautiful queen'. I mean it's startling. Unlike her brother and even old ancestors of her blood, she intrinsically is tied to so many of these prophetic verses and proves on so many occasions especially after birth of dragons that she indeed can be Azhor Ahai or maybe - the best candidates for her. She doesn't really is obsessed with it or neither is she forcing someone to tell her fate like cersei and then meet the rejection with rudeness infact she kind of subverts expectations one has of glaring prophecy which everyone imagines to be a prince...or a man. But dany really isn't a man lol and neither a prince. Aemon did say too the translated prophecy can have error too and it was not really prince who is promised but could be well...princess if that's even the correct term. Her birth of dragons explained in numerous posts and metas is so phenomenal and makes her ever so wonderful and magical than her all ancestors who died in all tragic ways because they made the prophecies too tied to their lives and were utterly obsessed with it. They were reminiscing over grief of dragons but daenerys bought dragons that to, three back to world after stepping into drogo's pyre and performing a ritual she herself only realised in the end what she was doing and thanks to well MMD. She realized later but still did she realise how the stone eggs did exudate warmth and called to her. Im pretty sure all other targayens and their expectations and experiences were all in vain or went down drain. Dany on the other hand independently alone and on her own without help of anyone but only subtly joining clues and hints, sorted out and stitched the importance and relevance of it. The dragons and ritual. It was anyways a one time magical event too, no wonder her bringing dragons to world is written as " music of dragons" and night came alive with it in AGOT. (interesting that grrm says music of dragons and well rhaegar also liked playing sad music at ruins of summerhall, an emo prince yea)
And Daenerys doesn't really is tied herself to prophecy but most of the prophecies are tied to her. The Younger More Beautiful Queen one indicates at her..tbh and really no one including cersei and her knows about it. The AzAhai one also points to her because she was born in salts of dragonstone and smoke refers to birth of dragons and cracking of sound and smoke during pyre. The sword forged from flame can obv be pointed to drogon whose birth is like fire made flesh of a dragon hence that, and also when Xaro X Daxos says, of her dragons 'as flaming sword'.
but not getting into details of AA as dany because again, there are a lot of essays to it.
I just pointed out how stannis makes prophecy his and forced a little on people, how jojen trains bran too in a way and he still takes time to learn this green visions thing, cersei staggers away from it and damages people to not fulfill it or prevent it from engulfing her...but dany has no idea yet as far of any prophecy only a dream, and house of undying visions which she herself doesnt yet believe all so much we rlly dont know, yet she fulfills def 2/3 prophecies.

So decided to do a lil thing! Gonna explain my choices for different Redacted Playlist I've made (and am still working on)
Starting with Gavin and the Freelancer, cause rn their playlist is the longest and can be found HERE
I also want to preface this with, if a song is gendered one way or another I just tried to ignore it. Unfortunately, there aren’t as many songs where the second party is not given pronouns :c
So the first few are just general ones that I felt had the vibes for the duo (there are a LOT of sexual vibes in this one, for obvious reasons), and I don’t really have a specific reason for picking them. Those are
Make Me Feel by Janelle Monáe
Dream of You by Chung Ha (with R3HAB)
Troublemaker by Olly Murs (Ft. Flo Rida)
Bad Boy (English Version) by Red Velvet
Kiss of Death by RiffShop
Bicycle by Chung Ha
I Like Me Better by Lauv
The next ones are more specific and will be under the cut, just incase I go on tangents. (I will also update as I add new songs)
The Devil's Backbone by The Civil Wars
I imagine this song is from Freelancer's perspective, set during the period of time where Gavin was being questions for breaking covert. Specifically how the song says “There wasn’t a wrong or a right he could choose, he did what he had to do.” with how he chose to help Caelum free Ivan from Vega’s grasp of his own because he knew it was the only way. Then the line “Don’t take that sinner from me.” Where they don’t really know what’s going on and are just scared because he is gone. I feel that's probably the time frame when they truly realized how in love with him they were.
Deity by Valeree
This is 100% Gavin to the Freelancer. I legit heard it and was like "this is something Gavin would fuckin say". This is def more set before they get into their relationship. Hell the song even starts with “Honey, you look lost” and their first interaction the Freelancer was looking for directions lol.  Also the “i don’t believe in punishing the sinner, unless punishment’s the kind of love you want.” that is LEGIT something he would say and no one can change my mind.
Somebody - Crimson Apple
This is one of the ones I feel is again the Freelancer to Gavin, but it could also work the other way as well. But the way i hear it, this feels like pre-romance but set around the time that everything was hitting its peak (the Kody situation, the stuff with Vega, their school stress) and this song is their plea to Gavin since he was the only thing NOT going bad during that time. He is giving them something to cling onto even if it is just chilling and the sexy times, the line that sticks out the most is “Eyes as deep as the ocean, set me free for a moment.” They needed that release from the stress of everything going on.
Only Wanna Dance With You - Kesha
Ngl, this also just had the right vibes for them. But it gets a special mention because it talks about "playing hard to get", "falling in love on accident" and the most important mention "7-11" 🤣.
Walls by All Time Low
So this one is another that could be from both perspectives. Obviously Gavin had a lot of walls surrounding his heart and it took a bit for him to come to terms with the fact that he loved the Freelancer. But from what we got about the Freelancer, they also have those same types of walls (Ex. Lying to Lasko about their parents accepting their magic, not telling Gavin LITERALLY ANYTHING THAT WAS HAPPENING TO THEM, etc. etc.) So this feels like a coming to terms that they’re in love with the other and wanting to stop keeping themselves walled off.
Sinners by Lauren Aquilina
This was picked for 2 reasons. Reason 1: The second verse starts with “You showed me feelings I’ve never felt before. We’re making enemies, knocking on the devil’s door.” So that like, obviously Gavin has felt desire from people but he hasn’t felt that love that he and the Freelancer share. Then that second line reminded me of the whole Vega situation. And Reason 2: the chorus says “The world may disapprove, but my world is only you. And if we’re sinners then it feels like heaven to me” and that just...knowing that Gavin is kind of shunned and looked down upon by the rest of his people. That line really hit home to that. I could legit hear him saying that, or a line similar to the Freelancer.

though the mist might prevent some from seeing it, JANE MÁRQUEZ is actually a descendent of HYPNOS. it’s still a question of whether or not the TWENTY-SIX year old DEMIGOD ELEMENTARY EDUCATION MAJOR from NEW ORLEANS, USA has taken after HER godly parent completely, but the demigod is still known to be quite SACRIFICIAL & STUBBORN.

THE POSITIVE & NEGATIVE; Meme.
Tumblr media
Mun & Muse
Tumblr media
fill out & repost ♥ This meme definitely favors canons more, but I hope OC’s still can make it somehow work with their own lore, and lil’ fandom of friends & mutuals. Multi-Muses pick the muse you are the most invested in atm.
tagged by:  Stolen from: @niflheimqueen tagging:  @pinkheartedfool, @divinesilverlove @delusorydetective @rock-you-like-a-hurricxne @foolishwinds @chibitantei @apocalypsxmaidxn @mcmcntomorii and everyone else who hasn’t yet! You have been tagged!
MY MUSE IS:   canon / oc / au / slightly canon-divergent / fandomless / complicated.
IS YOUR CHARACTER POPULAR IN THE FANDOM?   YES? / NO.
IS YOUR CHARACTER CONSIDERED HOT™ IN THE FANDOM?   YES / NO / IDK. (Have you seen his charm!! PLUS HE’S A RANDOM FOODAHOLIC DORK X3 and be weirdly cute in his own way :3  If you don’t believe me. wait until he Reveals His Right Eye)
IS YOUR CHARACTER CONSIDERED STRONG IN THE FANDOM?   YES / NO / IDK.  (Here’s the thing with that. It really depends if someone likes him as an MC. I’m sure their are probably others out there who may prefer Yu Narukami as a better Protag, or Akira the new P5 protag. So it depends on the person. But for the most part, I’d like to think he’s pretty well widely enough known in the fandom as the P3 Blue-Emo-Jesus who saved the world x3)
ARE THEY UNDERRATED?   YES / NO / IDK. (In terms of having his own personality, maybe a little bit? Since he’s only been able to express his own personality in the few spin off games we got for P3. Yu has been able too more, but for a while he wasn’t able to until Persona Q(P4 Side) and until the movie and now Dancing In Moonlight as well as Persona Q 2. But his personality in the P3 Manga if definitely underrated in my opinion, not too many people talk about the Manga)
WERE THEY RELEVANT FOR THE MAIN STORY?   YES / NO
WERE THEY RELEVANT FOR THE MAIN CHARACTER?   YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG./
ARE THEY WIDELY KNOWN IN THEIR WORLD?   YES / NO. (In my AU Main verse, he’s a famous Paranormal Investigator with his own show, so yes in my AU verse. Tho popularity level depends on verse, Main verse its his first season and he only just blew up. In my P5 Verse its 5 years after P4AU so he would be in his 4th season by then and only then be widely known)
HOW’S THEIR REPUTATION?   GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL. (As a Paranormal Investigator, all his successful cases have gave him a very good rep within the Ghost Hunting community, it was thanks to his credibility how he was able ro get a
tv contract deal. In P3 he has a great rep with his friends as their reliable leader and friend, but a not so good rep at school too many dates.. xD nice one Minato  )
HOW STRICTLY DO YOU FOLLOW CANON?   —  (Because I started to RP Minato when there’s wasn’t much games where he didn’t have his personality shown yet(2015)   I based him off more from the Manga’s interpretation of him, But now canon wise in terms of Personality, I still tend to use mostly his Manga personality, but now I’ve added a few small tidd-bits of how he is in the movie and how he is depicted in both PQ’s as well as Dancing In Moonlight.)
SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting
in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.  —    (Oh boy here we go. Minato is a food loving and very random dork who tends to be quiet and stoic 88% of the time, but he’s very kind, he always puts his friends before himself, he tries his very best to be the best leader he can possibly be and he is an all around easy person to get along with, just expect him to zone out here and there, to sometimes be very weird, VERY random. And expect him to randomly start snacking a lot x3 )
Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).                      (He can sometimes have a tendency to overthink things waaayyyy too much and if it’s really eating at him a lot, it will permanently plague the back of his mind. He can sometimes be lazy, but its a habit he’s trying to break. If he’s really super hungry, he will gorge and when he gorges, his tables manners are absolutely terrible XD )
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RP YOUR MUSE?   —  (I guess it was how I saw him when   I read the Manga. I played P3 FES first, then after beating it, I wanted to read the manga as soon as I found out about it. I also think it was the fact he dies and seeing how his friends grew up without him, it made me really want to see what it would be like if he survived, I guess I felt his death at the end of the game was just a real shame, I suppose I thought he would have been a great character to bring back in future Persona games, I understand the reason for his death and I have nothing against it. It was just that thought I had of “Man Minato could have been so much more if he survived” that drove me to pick him up )
WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING?   —  (Well, I’ve been in the Persona fandom for 5 years now. Before when I came back, I wasn’t getting many rp’s. But ever since I came back and found an active Fuuka(MinaFuu is a ship I rarely got to rp) so that started it back up, and then it was seeing all these familiar faces(Or blogs in this case xD) come back, my motivation has been through the roof. So I guess the revival of the fandom and the wonderful people of the Persona community has fueled my fire and it keeps on burning for more!)
Some more personal questions for the mun.
Give your mutuals some insight about the way you are in some matters, which could lead them to get more comfortable with you or perhaps not.
DO YOU THINK YOU GIVE YOUR CHARACTER JUSTICE?   YES / NO / I SINCERELY HOPE I DO? (I think so, I’ve Rp’d him for 5 years now, I’d like to think I know him inside and out?)
DO YOU FREQUENTLY WRITE HEADCANONS?   YES / NO / SORT OF? (When the motivation or idea’s are there then yeah I totally do)
DO YOU SOMETIMES WRITE DRABBLES?   YES / NO (I definitely do, not as many as I’d like to tho, but when the idea comes to mind that you just can’t express in an rp with someone else, then its best in drabble form.)
DO YOU THINK A LOT ABOUT YOUR MUSE DURING THE DAY?   YES / NO           (I’m a very musical person myself just like Minato so every time I jam I do and I’m always jammin ;3)
ARE YOU CONFIDENT IN YOUR PORTRAYAL?   YES / NO / SORT OF?
ARE YOU CONFIDENT IN YOUR WRITING?   YES / NO / A LITTLE BIT. (In the beginning I wasn’t, but I kept at it and eventually I built up enough confidence to really make him soar. The thing with Minato is since Persona protags are silent and the game lets you make up his personality. But since I incorporate him more from the Manga I try to really channel that version of him. I’ve had a few people tell me they like my portrayal. So I must be doing something right?)
ARE YOU A SENSITIVE PERSON?   YES / NO. / SORTA. (tbh I’m more sensitive when it comes to my friends or family. Most times I’m pretty level headed when it comes to myself, nowadyas anyway.)
DO YOU ACCEPT CRITICISM WELL ABOUT YOUR PORTRAYAL?   —  (For the most part yes and I don’t usually let any negativity get to me.  But if someone doesn’t like my portrayal for some reason then you’re welcome to unfollow me. Maybe I’m not the Minato for you then?)
DO YOU LIKE QUESTIONS, WHICH HELP YOU TO EXPLORE YOUR CHARACTER?   — (DEF I love any questions I get so please def ask me stuff if you are curious.)
IF SOMEONE DISAGREES TO A HEADCANON OF YOURS, DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY? — (Yes, just so I can get a better idea of the flaws it may have, then I can better construct it if I see it as a valid reason for possibly not working. If I don’t see any problem with it then it’s still staying )
IF SOMEONE DISAGREES WITH YOUR PORTRAYAL, HOW WOULD YOU TAKE IT?   —  (If my portrayal doesn’t fit your idea of Minato then perhaps I’m not the Minato for you and the unfollow button is always there. No harm done really. )
IF SOMEONE REALLY HATES YOUR CHARACTER, HOW DO YOU TAKE IT? — (Hey man, just don’t try and kill my vibe by cutting down my muse right in front of me and we’re good. Of course there is always the unfollow button. )
ARE YOU OKAY WITH PEOPLE POINTING OUT YOUR GRAMMATICAL ERRORS?   —  (Totally, I make quite a few sometimes, if it ever bothers you, please let me know kindly and I’ll have no problem fixing it, But if it doesn’t bug ya the we good. )
DO YOU THINK YOU ARE EASY GOING AS A MUN? — (I like to think so, I used to be pretty shy on here, but after 5 years on here I’m chill with pretty much everything. )

thank you so so much for this ask! so i’m gonna be honest --- i love this aspect of August’s character. so much. i can’t wait to explore it more and I say that because.....well, I haven’t done it a whole lot of justice yet as far as development goes lmao. forgive me for that, as time goes on i should def have some specific examples of the types of stories he creates and tells to his clientele. but i’ve only had this boy since late april of this year, and developing all aspects of my muses so they resemble a multi-faceted, nuanced person has always taken me some time. took me five years with my last muse n i’m still not even all that content with him hsjdns.
ANYWAY! ALL THAT ASIDE. i do have some lil headcanons about Gus and his storytelling / creative process, so here’s a quick lil list of random bits n bobs about that ! :
August puts a lot of time and thought into his stories, especially re: his audience and the kind of mood he’s in. does he want to instill a moral lesson in the more impressionable youngsters? does he want to captivate kids with a sense of immersive adventure? or does he want to HORRIFY and INTRIGUE the adults who are seeking a little entertainment, and get a little ego stroke from watching them JUMP in their seats? for a gentle giant, he does have a deep fascination in the macabre and the frightening. whenever he has an audience of teens and adults, it’s a real treat for him. he loves telling horror stories!
he’s very organized about the aforementioned considerations. he has stacks upon stacks of journals in his bedroom where he writes down notes on his tall tales and sketches the people and creatures featured in them, be they wholly original works or his own twists on stories passed down from each generation. and he separates them all on the shelf by genre!
true to traditional spoken-word form, he’ll usually modify the tales a bit each time he tells them, to better connect with his given audience that day.
he loves using any medium he can to tell his stories --- spoken word being the most obvious. but Gus has even been known to write and perform songs which recount the tales, or cook any mentioned food to serve to his forge’s guests while they gather around his anvil to listen. and he especially loves to make grand, symbolic metal sculptures of the characters or beasts featured in the stories as he spins them. he wants to make the whole experience feel as physically present and real for his audience as he can, no matter what age they are.
Gus draws a lot of inspiration just from people/ nature-watching! there’s not a day that goes by where he isn’t sat outside his workshop on a lunch break, taking notes on whatever he sees. he uses the “and then” approach for drafting his stories a lot. for example, he’ll just jot down anything simple he sees, like a man drinking coffee, and let his imagination run wild with it until he’s got the bones of a plot. it’s not very cohesive at this stage and definitely lacking a lot of substance, but it’s a very fun start for him. honestly? even if he ends up scrapping the whole concept that day, he loves seeing just how far he can push the boundaries of believability with his stories, how grand he can get away with making them when they sprout from such an everyday premise.
storytelling even takes shape in his weaponry creations, although these focus much more specifically on the individual. Gus’s guns and blades are purely artisanal designs, and therefore he makes it MANDATORY that anyone commissioning him for weapons shares a drink or two with him first. he never knows who he might be making a firearm for --- the next great american bounty hunter? an infamous outlaw forever immortalized by history? an unarguable hero to mankind itself? but even if they just end up amounting to a simple farmer protecting his land from coyotes, he designs his works with the hopes that they’ll be a FEATURE in that individual’s life. hopes that the weapon crafted by his hand will be just as renowned as its wielder. they’re highly personal pieces, tailored with the commissioner’s life in mind. and being a man who creates and retells folklore himself, Gus knows that it makes storytelling much easier if the guns are as unique as the characters. and have names. he will also require that you name the piece before he gives you your purchase lmao.
in verses where he has partners, and even kids? they’re definitely the first to hear his story ideas so that he can get some feedback. he also creates personal creative works for his lovers/ spouses/ babies/ friends and honorary family. meant only for their eyes and ears.
he’s as avid a reader as he is a writer. on his days off, you won’t find Gus at the saloon, but at the bookseller and printing shop asking the owner (and his longtime buddy) Barney what new works he’s got for sale.  by the late 1800s, public libraries were also popping up all over the US! and chances are, if he’s not at Barney’s making conversation about his most recent purchase, or at the hardware shop scouring the stock for dying discount plants to bring home and nurture back to health? yeah. he’s at the library.

Literally all of them are me tho??? How can y’all just pick 4.
Saw this lil trend, which usually I hate lol, but since it’s about music - I’m here for it sis. Literally just go to google and type in “Bill Clinton swag generator” and you can pick your top 4 fave albums :) I broke the rules tho clearly. But here are minezzz <3
So the all-time-faves, I posted first:
Channel Orange - Frank Ocean (actually obsessed with him, he’s in my Top 3 of LIFE!)
Graduation - Kanye West
Man on the Moon - Kid Cudi (his first album<3 I’m biased though because this is my number one guy forever and ever, amen)
Days Before Rodeo - Travis Scott (one of his earlier ones, hes a rapper out of Houston, I went to high school with him soooo I like ride his dick hard haha but hes super well versed and was signed with Kanyes label and works with a wide array of people sooo gotta lot of love for my dude)
Alt/Rock Faves: (This was hard)
Currents - Tame Impala (all time fave artists/group, think they’d make my Top 5)
Sound and Color - Alabama Shakes (they aren’t together anymore :( but the lead singer Brittney Howard went off on her own and she’s amaaazing)
Stadium Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers FOR LIFEEEE
Brothers - The Black Keys (I love anything Dan Auerbach, the lead singer; he also had a side band called The Arcs that I was obsessed with - listen to their song “Put a Flower in Your Pocket”
Electro/Chill Albums that caught my attention:
GENERATIONWHY - Zhu (FUCKING LOVE THIS GUY, sooo glad I saw him at Middlelands )
Urban Flora - Alina Baraz (I used to listen to her on repeat, voice is angelic and I’ve seen her live and its just…wow)
Bloom - RUFUS DU SOL (super awesome group)
In Return - ODESZA (*does chefs kiss into the air*)
H TOWN SHIT:
Astroworld - Travis Scott (his last album from 2018, literally features Tame Impala, The Weekend, Frank Ocean, sooo many more - and he paid a lot of homage to H town in this and sampled alot of OGs lol, but super diverse sound, some chill/slower songs and some hype upbeat shit - def one of my faves)
Con Todo El Mundo - Khruangbin (THESE PEOPLE!! Ok honestly, if I had to pick one album for you to listen to, it’d be this one or their last one - they’re a trio out of H town and they just collabed with Leon Bridges and ahhh they’re just this funky, chill lil psychedelic band thats great for literally any time of day)
Lemonade - Beyonce (I’m just gonna drop the mic and walk away to these one, nothing needs to be said, pure perfection)
UGK - UGK (underground Kingz) basically I wouldn’t be allowed to rep Houston if I didn’t put them on there lol this reminds me of just ridin around town with my homies
R&B/Slower, Soulful Albums: (You will, and should, cry to these lol)
Blond - Frank Ocean (I honestly have no idea which album of his I like more, they’re both fire, hence why they both made it)
November - SiR (he’s signed to TDE, Kendrick Lamars label, and basically I love everyone out of there, but this guys on some other shit - a lot of people prefer his newer album, Chasing Summer, but this is my all time fave)
CASE STUDY 01 - Daniel Ceasar (honestly yet again, hard to pick a top album, as I like them all, but definitely his latest project takes the cake in my book - listen to Cyanide)
Trilogy - The Weeknd - ok, to be fair, all of his albums SLAP. Like, haarddd - so this was tough- but I think I played the fuck out of this the most.
Homage to the Oldies:
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill - Ms. Lauryn Hill - this babe is an OG in the game, from the Fugees obviously…but this is a timeless piece. If you have Spotify, look up the podcast called ‘Dissect’ - its a series that dives into albums and dissects them or breaks them down song by song, and they did hers among others….so awesome)
Aquemini - Outkast - literally hard to choose a fav album by them, but this one I have jammed the most - sooo many artists have sampled this album too lol so just love it top to bottom.
Axis: Bold as Love - Jimi Hendrix - used to jaaaaam this with my parents, timeless.
Exodus - Bob Marley (BOW DOWN TO ONE OF MY TOP 3 FAVE OF ALL TIMEEEEE)

With such a rich and dynamic history that started in 1970's New York, the Hip-Hop development has since spread far and wide, advancing, transforming and changing to suit its environment. In spite of the fact that its steady change has built up new and one of a kind accounts, viewpoints and subcultures, subjects of solidarity and fellowship have remained. Much more in this way, the craft of inspecting has permitted Hip-Hop makers and MCs to reproduce and reshape the old, continually uniting various specialists and animating greater imagination thus. Right now, have gathered my main five Hip-Hop reverences and re-understandings, whose innovativeness is reflected through a regard for the workmanship and its craftsman.
Tumblr media
5. Lewis Allen - Playa (2010)/Kanye West's All Falls Down
In December 2010, New Jersey's Lewis Allen discharged a 7-track collection qualified Ode For Ye, which includes the Vitamin String Quartet performing organized renditions of a portion of Kanye's best beats. Lewis' new coast style of rap (very reminiscient of Lupe Fiasco) truly supplements the group of four, and his verses frequently reflect the easygoing stream that make Yeezy's raps so infectious. Playa stood apart for me, incompletely due to the symphonic instrumental of Kanye's All Falls Down exemplary, yet additionally in view of Lewis' story of tragedy that I'm certain we would all be able to identify with.
4. Mos Def and Talib Kweli - Children's Story (1998)/Slick Rick's Children's Story
Off a collection that profoundly exemplified a sentiment of Black character during the 1990s, Black Star came to reclassify what Public Enemy had decided to do 10 years prior: tending to Afrocentric goals with regards to the social, political and social awareness of contemporary America. Kids' Story is a cutting edge take on Slick Rick's 1989 hit of a similar name. The expressive substance of the first denoted a key point in Hip-Hop's Golden Era, where narrating in rap was turning out to be increasingly noticeable. Mos Def's adaptation starts with precisely the same verses, however as the tune advances he begins to include his own story in with the general mish-mash.
3. Elzhi - Detroit State of Mind (2011)/Nas' New York State of Mind
It's an entirely huge accomplishment to cover what is apparently probably the best track in Hip-Hop history. Well Elzhi went above and beyond in 2011 and chose to cover one of the best Hip-Hop collections at any point composed - Nas' 1994 ageless exemplary, Illmatic - with his collection ELmatic. He doesn't exactly better the first, however regularly remains consistent with its rhyming pentameter, which is truly great when you're attempting to communicate your own musings to the audience in an engaging manner. His verses are strong all through the collection and his tone and phrasing inhales natural air into the instrumentals. Detroit State of Mind is an extraordinary model, carrying that Detroit vibe to a New York great.
youtube
2. Blemish - Single (2010)/Lil Wayne's Single
Blemish is a Dutch Soul/RnB artist we've been following for some time now. In 2010 he began an undertaking called Mar Variations, which has him re-interpretting his main tunes in a special manner. Blemish's form of this Lil Wayne track is nearly in exactly the same words, he essentially adds an absurdly smooth song to some severely misogynist verses. A fine mix.
1. Flying Lotus - Fall in Love (2009)/Slum Village/J Dilla's Fall in Love
My number 1 must be Flying Lotus' instrumental adjust of basically my preferred Hip-Hop track ever. The melody is really a tribute to the late extraordinary J Dilla, who died in 2006 from uncommon blood malady TTP. The adjust is flooding with a despairing that is significantly increasingly unobtrusive in the first, which makes it substantially more one of a kind. FlyLo's trademark side-chain pressure and background noise cause the track to inhale, suspending this tribute to flawlessness. Totally splendid.

i think i thought of a fun idea!! could u maybe go through ur awtto playlist and explain why u put it on there?? like, why u think it fits them, or whose pov it’s from, stuff like that ☺️
AAAAA holy shit this is so cool thank u for asking!!!!! i feel Passionately about my playlist and im so glad i can share some of my thought processes or w.e with it!!!
I do update this playlist every once in awhile, but here's what's on there so far!
- talk too much by coin: the lyrics of this song is So awtto tbh its a very fun and playful song, def awsten's pov
- lavender bones by stand atlantic: i really love this song a lot. the "i know i'm out of my depth, but i just float in it" in the chorus feels very otto to me, but this is a p Early Awtto song where they're both in a weird spot with their sexualities
- california waves by postcards: i like the talk of nostalgia in this song. it's very aws-in-LA and otto-in-houston song. it sorta has a bitterness to it too, really, and i see it in otto's pov
- moscow by autoheart: if i had to choose a single song on this playlist for awtto, it'd be this one. it's so cute and upbeat and the lyrics themselves are so strange and fun, i think it suits them so well. different lyrics fit for both of them, so the pov is sorta split depending on line. i Adore it so much!!!
- unsweet by DNCE: i LOVE dnce and this song is So Cute, about loving someone who doesn't fit in with the norm. otto's pov
- smithereens by twenty one pilots: this song is fucking Hilarious and so sweet. i thought it was sorta funny, tyler talking about how he'd fight someone to defend jenna, even though he's so tiny, and that felt very otto to me
- our time now by plain white t's: really fun song. i don't have much of a deeper meaning for it tbh, it just felt like it suited!
- beating heart baby by waterparks: honestly i put this on here because of my own fic! i think awsten's voice is so sweet in this song and i lov 2 imagine him singing it to otto
- imaginary parties by superfruit: this song is so silly and lighthearted while still having a sorta,,, Suggestive undertone, which is p much awtto's whole relationship. pov wise, awsten would be mitch's parts (the higher ones) and otto would be scott's. the line "i can call the shots and you can call me what you want" is SO awtto
- knuckles by moose blood: ive always heard this one in awsten's pov, but it could work either way. this song is p angsty, but that sort of pining for someone who's taken felt a lil like the "otto's dating grace and awsten's in love with him but otto has no idea" au we've touched on. the chorus is beautiful and fitting
- let me down easy by gang of youths: if moscow was my first choice for an awtto song, this would be my second. the lyrics of this song are GORGEOUS, id rly recommend reading them! i could break this one down verse by verse and how it relates to awtto, but that'd be a whole seperate post, but definitely otto's pov
- millions by gerard way: i like this song a bunch. it has a really fun melody but the lyrics are a bit darker, very bittersweet in their own right. also some ha ha blowjob references, so that was a selling point lmfao. awsten's pov
- sweet pea by doll skin: one of the rare Actual Love Songs on this playlist! it's a beautiful song abt a ldr and i see it from awsten's pov
- trust by the jonas brothers: otto's pov. this came about after we talked about awkward!otto and also i think this is one of the bests on happiness begins, it's a good tune and the lyrics are pretty fitting!
- god in jeans by ryan beatty: a teenage/very young adult awtto song, awsten's pov. i love the lyrics of this sm, the naivety of it. it feels like awsten's first time with a boy, waking up next to him and thinking "if god would send me to hell for this, id go willingly". it's kinda a tongue-in-cheek anti religion song, and it feels very fitting for little fumbly scene awsten who's so in love with otto, a boy,
- in bloom by neck deep: i wanted an actual breakup'y sorta song on here, and this one deals a bit with an overbearing relationship. def otto's pov. and it sounds breakup'y, but the "you're the only voice i want to hear in my head" offers a bit of hope still, and thts very awtto, to not rly end anything

I've been getting into kanye's music recently and since you're bandom's resident kanye fan I was wondering if you had any song recs. So far my favourites are through the wire, all falls down, and flashing lights, but I haven't listened to much yet
OMG omg omg okay im so excited i love getting people into kanye i think he’s such an insanely talented artist but so many ppl write him off cuz of his……history… but anyways okay so def recommend listening to singles first yknow cuz like most popular songs are most popular for a reason plus it gives you a taste of each album so like stronger, all of the lights, heartless, gold digger, can’t tell me nothing, power. if u go thru all the singles u basically listened to all of graduation so i think that’s why it’s the best album to listen to first (also i totally see like insane similarities between infinity on high and graduation but that’s for another post :p) plus you already like flashing lights and the album generally sounds like that . personal favorites from graduation are good life (best feel good song EVER like literally so hard to not dance to) and drunk and hot girls but like everyone hates that song for some reason so maybe i don’t recommend it HELP. i think my beautiful dark twisted fantasy is the best album ever (also it’s totally kanye’s folie a deux) and runaway is the best song off of it and also kanye’s best song in general. i think listening to the album in full is the best experience but if you must it’s still amazing on its own. monster is also an insane song and nicki minaj’s verse is SO insane . also def recommend gorgeous i love kid cudi. idk there’s like a lil bit of everything in his discography, if you want a more lowkey listening you would go to 808s and heartbreak : i love welcome to heartbreak (another kid cudi feature lol) robocop, and love lockdown. i really love the life of pablo however post 2010 kanye music has waaaaay more like …. shocking lyrics and that’s def not everyone’s taste but i think it makes it funny so i vibe on. ultralight beam (idk why but just yelling out I MET KANYE WEST IM NEVER GOING TO FAIL gets me hyped every single time even tho the song itself is like laid back lol) and ALSO speaking of hype definitely recommend facts (charlie heat version) i need kanye to scream more but also it totally has those O__o kind of lyrics so like not for everyone but it’s fun if you look past it LOL. okay anyways here are just some other random songs i rec: diamonds from sierra leone, i thought about killing you, blame game, the new workout plan, no more parties in la, bound 2, black skinhead, jesus walks. tbh this isn’t even a reclist these are just my favorites and i have weird taste LMAO . okay sorry i hope this is like coherent but anyways if you get anything out of this i must say over and over again LISTEN TO MY BEAUTIFUL DARK TWISTED FANTASY i always promote it it’s soooooo insane and like artistic and just like the best album ever runaway is the best song ever . i hope u enjoy at least like one song off of this :]

10: Musical Discourse: Slime Language 2
Young Thug’s new project, Slime Language 2, is almost reminiscent of Pi’erre Bourne’s TLOP4, except more features (Thug got all these niggas in the studio and told them “We’re doing this now or never”), including ex-girlfriend and entrepreneur Karlae, Jim Jones, Drake, Travis Scott, and Coi Leray. There is a heavy YSL l influence (obviously) as well as some OVO features (hey Drake, hey Nav!), Coi Leray (no comment), and even a Rowdy Rebel feature, fresh from the pen. This project does a good job at touching different extremes of the rap music spectrum – Thug manages to get some songs for the ladies (“I Like”, which, to me, is very reminiscent of the City Girls, “On the Low”, and “Trance”), typical athlete walk-out music, and some songs that follow that “no one ever believed in me/everyone leaves me” kinda vibe.
If we’re gonna keep it 100, the album in itself is not necessarily a stand-out – very few songs have that “wow” factor - and to be honest - it’s mid, as the kids would call it. BUT, in the spirit of neutrality, I’ll be breaking down my favourites, as a self-proclaimed know most and trap music enthusiast, especially since today marks the one-month anniversary of its release - and if you disagree, suck ya mum (JK….kinda.)
“Take It to Trial” – Young Thug, YSL, Gunna, Yak Gotti
This track is probably one of the best on the album, and not just because the Yak Gotti feature ties it all together, but for the overall cohesiveness of everyone on the track, which almost makes it sound like one person entirely throughout. Take It to Trial was one of the tracks on the album that was released before the drop of SL2, giving it some time to marinate before the drop of the project in its entirety. While the beat is nothing too crazy, it’s still a standout due to the lyricism of the track and the abnormally high pitch Thug manages to hit on the chorus, as he adamantly requests to take this shit to mf’in trial.
I don’t know if the herpes bar making me think of NBA YoungBoy makes me a bad person, but I guess only time will tell.
“I Like” – YSL, Karlae, Coi Leray
Now, listen. I am not going to lie and say that I support all women. Somewhere in my heart, I know Coi Leray got to where she is due to a combination of light skin privilege (insert noises of disgust), some form of nepotism, her marketability, and her longstanding time in the industry (she was, in fact, one of the Mindless Behaviour video girls, so that in itself should tell you how long she’s secretly been in the game. She’s almost like a slightly darker Alexa Demie, except she isn’t lying about her age).
But this song???
THIS MF SONG?
There has to be crack in it. Because it’s not that good - the beat is not one which you run back for its complexity, nor its lyricism, but DAMN, it’s a good ass song.
Both she and Karlae captured the effortless sexy feeling certain songs are supposed to give you (fellas, not sure if you’ve ever felt it, but I feel like the laydeez know what I mean). It’s giving very much Uber Black on the freeway in an amazing outfit, drunk out of your mind - and I’m here for it! While I do feel like Karlae can rap circles around Coi, if given the opportunity, I think one thing I can say is that Coi does have the unabashed confidence of a man in her same position and that in itself makes this song *that* much more powerful.
“Mil in Vegas” – YSL, Young Thug, NAV
When I’m old and in my nursing home of choice (Astagfurallah, but you never know), I hope Young Thug drops a purely R&B album; something like Hndrxx but a lil’ less suicidal.
Or that the nursing home has enough money to hire him for a mid-afternoon senior citizen concert, but let’s tackle one problem at a time.
This track is almost like the niggas’ version of “I Like” but instead of boo boo Mizz Leray, we get a melodic NAV feature. In addition to my appreciation of him realizing he needs to stop using the fucking n-word (he shouldn’t have been using it in the first place, but progress is better than perfection), I think there’s something to be said with rap songs that are done outside of the major key; it def adds a little pinash, and some depth that wouldn’t have been there before – and NAV’s voice is suited perfectly for these otherwise challenging scales.
The only other thing going for this song is the way Thug looks in that yellow turtleneck on the Spotify visualizer – and with that being said, I hope niggas will be rocking more bright colors in the seasons to come.
(Also, what the fuck is NAV’s obsession with Los Angeles? I swear there’s at least one bar in every song).
“Slatty” – YSL, Young Thug, Gunna, Lil Duke, Yak Gotti
Mark my motherfucking words - when we have in-person sporting events, I will bet my Large Telfar bag that at least one draftee has this song as their walk-out music.
This track incorporates the one word that every nigga in YSL records (and current rap culture) has heat-stamped in their vocabulary, and while the word “slat” has been massacred by hordes of white teenage boys on TikTok, I will say that this chorus is catchy as fuck.
The real star of this song (shockingly) is the juxtaposition of Yak Gotti’s gritty, emory-board vocal cords, the raspy voice of Lil Duke, and the familiar buttery sound of Thug’s vocals.
Why the visualizer has P. Diddy in it, God only knows. But our adeer is doing his thing in those big ass Versace shades, so who am I to say anything.
“Diamonds Dancing” – YSL, Young Thug, Travis Scott, Gunna
I have no commentary other than asking rappers to please stop using Dr. King for any of their metaphors – he cheated on Correta with a white woman (and only one that we KNOW of, for that matter).
So, I stand here humbly before you, petitioning for the alternative bars including:
“Dripped in Dolce & Gabanna / Black diamonds like Thomas Sankara”
“New girl like Lori Harvey / chain Black like Africa, Marcus Garvey”
or something along those lines. Even a Sojourner Truth bar, at this fucking point.
“Solid” – YSL, Young Thug, Gunna, Drake
Of course, OF FUCKING COURSE, this track was saved by none other than the culture vulture himself - the man, the myth, and apparently now, the fucking candlemaker, Mr. Aubrey Drake Graham.
(Sidenote: Why is graham such a hard word to spell?).
I know y’all niggas heard - and felt - him very clearly when he said he needed some head and some moral support right away (not like y’all are gonna get any, but understandable if you felt it).
Something about the subtle use of steel pan, and mafioso type beat that the OVO clan has such an affinity for, really brings this hoe all the way together.
Another interesting point to note – and why I think Thug and Gunna make such an incomparable duo - is the fact that Thug and Gunna could almost pass for one another on the second verse, and even in the chorus. The only distinctive giveaway in this is the fact that Gunna does not make use of the whimsical bars in the same way that Thug does (because who the fuck is putting macaroni and cheese in their pockets besides the man who made a whole Instagram live about having a dirty dick? Exactly.)
Surprisingly though, this is one of the only songs on the album that hasn’t drilled holes in my eardrums, even after listening to it for an entire month, so bravo on them for that.
“Proud of You” – YSL, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, Yung Kayo
I’m going to use this song to expose my corniness in saying I’ve definitely thought of using this song for some Instagram captions.
I think the combined genius of Thug and Uzi is often overlooked due to everyone wanting to worship Uzi with the androgynous Vampire Ma- I mean, Carti (who also makes a great duo with Uzi in his own right, but Uzi and Thug just remind me of two eccentric uncles, minus a few decades).
It was also rumored in 2018 that these niggas had over fifteen hundred songs together and I honestly wouldn’t it put it past them for that to be true.
Will they all be hits? Probably not, but it’s nice to be a dreamer – plus, their previous tracks (What’s the Move, It’s A Slime and Strawberry Peels) can’t be disregarded either.
“Really Be Slime” – YSL, Young Thug, FN DaDealer, YNW Melly, Bslime
In my honest opinion, I think YNW Melly (and TayK!) should have been pardoned from jail way before Reptar (Kodak) or the other gremlin, Mr. Weezy F Baby – not doubting this artistry, but I do think this man requires a serious rest; musically, emotionally, and physically).
This nigga Melly bodies every feature and brings such mischievous energy to every single track. Also, the minute the rhymed “butter pecan” and “Puerto Rican”, he was fr a genius in my high school eyes.
You can’t deny that the other niggas on the track, even Young Thug himself, fall a little short and that FN DaDealer is trying a bit hard to give us Lil Baby teas, but for what it is, it’s not a bad song. The beat, again, nothing too impressive, but I’m honestly just so glad to hear a YNW Melly feature after what feels like forever.
And that about wraps it up – overall, I’d give this project a solid 5/10. It could have done a bit more; and for the number of features (as well as their duality), honestly could have been more experimental. I get that this was highly anticipated, but in that case, I’m sure niggas wouldn’t have minded waiting a bit longer for it to go the extra mile.
If you feel like I missed any important tracks, that’s too damn bad; but feel free to argue with me in the comments of Instagram.
Until then…*turns on “I Like”*.

Rap Beast: Here comes the up-and-coming artiste, ASYRFNSIR, the spellbinding KL-hailed musician who recently puts out the antidote rap track “VIRUS”
Tumblr media
You might not want to miss out on this one because this artiste right here is about to blow up and become the next big thing inside the music industry. He’s ASYRFNSIR (pronounced as Asyraf Nasir). Having been recently crowned as the champion of RapStar ERA, where he toppled down other equally prodigious contestants in front of the music industry virtuosos as the judges, the climbing moves for the effervescent rap star doesn’t stop just there. In an introspective interview with writer Ainaa Amirrah, ASYRFNSIR lets us in on the analytical facet of him and his first commercial single “VIRUS” which is collaboratively produced by Def Jam South East Asia and Universal Music Malaysia. Could be, “VIRUS” is all about the current pandemic that we’re being faced with right now? This is where the “secrets” get revealed.
Words by Ainaa Amirrah
When was the first time you realized that you're into rapping?
I’ve always been into hip hop since I was in school. The first rap song I heard was “I’ll Be Missing You” by Puff Daddy (his name at the time la) and I just got hooked into the genre ever since. But taking rapping more seriously started three years ago when I decided to join this video making competition about a potato snack with an old classmate I had not seen since I left high school! I randomly decided to go makan (eat) very late at this mamak stall I have never gone to around the neighbourhood and bumped into him. He shared with me that he does video editing full-time and so, I recommended him to tag along for the competition. We had to lip sync the words and while filming the scenes, my friends was saying how I should try writing actual songs because zaman sekolah dulu (during the high school years) I liked to do parodies! Long story short, we won and managed to meet SonaOne for the first time because he was the jingle for that video competition. Pretty overwhelming considering that was the first time I won anything before! After that my friend tried to convince me to rap for real, and the deal he made was that he’d shoot every music video I do for free to help build my career. And damn, I guess here we are! Crazy times. I owe a lot to this guy, if not, I might have not taken that step to start. Much love to you, Nicholas Bong!
How does it feel like being crowned as the champion of RapStar ERA?
Surreal. That is the best word that I can think of. Okay, so I’m going to be honest and say that none of the participants expected that this thing was going to be that big! I saw the poster online and thought it was just a standard challenge where you have to upload a 1-minute video of you rapping and boom! Done! Sadakallahul'azim, finish already and we have found a winner. But no man, from the ‘Gram we had to go for live auditions and from there it was an intensive 2-week journey with daily challenges! Every day we had to write fresh 16 bars on a new beat and memorize it for the next day! If this was another ‘upload video on Instagram’ thing takpe la (nevermind), but we had to perform in front of actual judges in the music industry! (Fariz Jabba, Joe Flizzow, Navigator, SonaOne). Dah la (What’s more) we had the finale show some more, and it was a legit concert! So to put it simply, very overwhelming because the journey was very competitive and the hype about the whole competition was building up along the way so the pressure for me personally, was high. My whole family for the first time came to see me perform live kot that night of the finale! What made me join the competition by the way, is of course the opportunity to work with Def Jam South East Asia, but also, I always try to participate in any rap challenges on Instagram. I feel like it pushes myself to continue to come up with materials creatively (because you have to make videos too kan) and personally I feel like if you want to get anywhere, we just have to take every opportunity we can to showcase our skills you know? We can’t be too picky and selective on what we want to take part in, because the true fact is that how you perform will determine the outcome.
Now that you’ve become the RapStar ERA champion, what plans do you have in mind for the next phase? Are you still going to actively produce more of free verses posted on your Instagram, or perhaps, we could expect an extended play or an album coming from ASYRFNSIR?
Writing never stops. Since RMO started, I’ve been coming up with this series called #Quarantingz where I would come up with a fresh verse every two days, based on the stories of other people during quarantine! I enjoy putting up content and it challenges my writing capability to explore new flows, so yeah, you can expect more free verses! I’ve had plans of coming up with an album by the end of this year, but RapStar ERA happened, and right now, I just want to recalculate my steps for a solid game plan you know? We’ll see.
Tumblr media
You've significantly been known to have always included your personal trademark of "#AYangLuMinati" in your bars. Perhaps you could enlighten us about the meaning behind the words?
“AYangLuMinati” was a completely accidental tagline. So my hand sign which is the shape of an ‘A” was interpreted by a lot of random kids who said that I’m showing ajaran sesat (heresy) and promoting the Illuminati agenda whatever that means. But I wasn’t mad or anything, I just thought that it was hella funny on how the internet can have so many different interpretations. So what I did was put up in my Instagram stories of the ‘actual’ or common Illuminati hand signs or symbols and show that it clearly is very different. And this is where the tagline came about, I put a poll that said: “What do you see in this hand sign?” A) Illuminati. B) A-luminati. C) A-Yang-Lu-Minati. From what I thought was a very lame pun, people actually voted and responded to C! So instead of taking all the concerning comments [and teguran (reprimands) in DMs too] as a form of negativity, I embraced it and turned it into my trademark. Also, Altimet used to refer to himself as ‘A’ a lot in his music. And one of the last few words he mentioned in an interview before he retired from performing was telling the new rappers to “be better than me”. So I guess as a personal interpretation, I wanted to strive and be better than the OGs in the game eventually in my journey to the top.
Can you tell us a bit about your first single “VIRUS” produced by SonaOne of Def Jam South East Asia? Could be, is it about the current Covid-19 pandemic that’s happening right now?
A lot of people assumed that it is about the Covid-19 before the song was released, but I’m afraid that it is absolutely not related at all. This song was made before the RMO and I think the pandemic only just started to slowly spread in Malaysia. In the spirit of current news, I thought it would’ve been fun to use that as a reference in the song as a means of saying that my music is contagious. But then, the more I thought about it, this song is going to be my first introductory single into a wider audience in the music industry. I needed to make sure that this leaves a memorable mark in everyone’s minds. Thus, I embraced myself to be the ‘virus’ itself. Hoping to ‘infect’ the eardrums of listeners who had just heard of me for the first time, leaving them wanting for more. As much as this ‘spreads’ as a ‘virus’, it is also an antidote to ease everyone who’s been deprived of a good hit during the quarantine period. So without mentioning Covid-19, if you analyse the lyrics, there’s a lot of keyword elements about bacteria, hygiene etc. But they are interpreted as life lessons instead.
Tumblr media
Could we also expect any forthcoming projects of you with Def Jam South East Asia after this?
Well, I don’t know yet. (No really, I don’t!) But if God wills, if “VIRUS” achieves its goal, let’s hope you guys will be addicted for more! So stream it everywhere and stay tuned! Regardless, my promise to you is that I’m definitely going back into the lab and continue writing more bops for you guys!
I’m pretty sure that the fans out there are curious about the cash that you won from participating in RapStar ERA. What was the first thing that you bought using the money?
Well, so far, I haven’t used the money yet. But this has always been my thing since I started performing, which is that whatever I earn from music, I try to put it back to the growth of my music. The first few pay checks I got from my early gigs, I used them for buying a new studio mic and headphones for better quality. So I won’t spend it on other material items but instead, probably build my home studio or channel it back into my future music video productions!
What are the reasons that especially keep you motivated and positive in pursuing your dream of becoming a successful artiste?
What keeps me motivated is honestly, the scene itself. I feel like listening to great materials by other rappers, both old and new, keeps me fired up. It’s like collecting the great energy around and channelling it into your own you know? Also, the goal is to share the good stuff I have because I would like to believe that I’ve got materials and a style that the world would want to pay attention to.
Tumblr media
So it seems like you’ve been venturing more into trap music as heard in your discography. Would you one day, like to any other genres in showcasing your rap ability?
I’m actually flexible in different sounds, I guess my recent releases have been more into trap but I’m more open to trying out other genres as well! People always think rap needs to only be in hip hop, but rapping is just a skill like singing. If you can sing in other genres, surely rapping can apply too, no? Break the barriers! If not, we wouldn’t have Rage Against the Machine! Linkin Park! Old Town Road by Lil Nas X!
What do you really hope the world sees in ASYRFNSIR’s music?
The energy I bring in every track. I always try to associate myself with good vibes and good tunes for people to have a good time you know? The message will come together of course, and it may be about other issues instead of my own story. You can give my first release a listen called “Sunshine”, which is an ode to all women in conjunction of International Women’s Day. Plus, I don’t curse in my lyrics so you guys can bet your 3-year-old niece to listen to my music too.
Any hope for the local music scene in Malaysia?
A lot. I have so much hope and expectations from the music scene in Malaysia. We got young blood filled with talent who’s just trying to do what they do best you know? Some of these newer acts also have crossed borders and gained fans in our neighbourhood countries like Midnight Fusic. GARD is also one of the gems we have in the hip hop scene. Have you heard his EP with WUZGUT titled CPR (Club Perenang Rohani)? So yeah, I think we’re headed the right direction. Just let the people do their thing! And do your part in showing support as well. Also, one more thing I want to add, I feel like in order for us to push the standards, we should remove ‘local’ when we announce our talented musicians. For example ‘local singer’ or ‘local rapper’ or ‘local music’. An artiste is an artiste, and if people can take out the ‘Malaysian’ label in our artistes, we can finally improve the mind set of putting these people on the same pedestal as other international artistes.
QUICK TRIVIA Q&A WITH ASYRFNSIR!
Tumblr media
Be rich or be smart? Smart. Smart people always have ways in making money. Boom.
Be handsome or be famous? Famous. Looks alone may not get you anywhere. Fame can help give you a greater voice of influence. It’s a great tool to create change in less fortunate communities and the lives of others as well.
Have a song with Eminem or Tupac? Tupac. The values and messages he carries in his rhythm and poetry.
Beat SonaOne or Joe Flizzow in a rap battle? Hmm, okay in RapStar ERA, Joe Flizzow was the judge for one of the rounds we had which was a rap battle. No disrespect, but if you could be the judge, then damn, they should just give you the crown already.
Live in Paris or Japan? Japan! Have always admired the Japanese lifestyle and values they have. They’re also very innovative! Constantly levelling up! Amazing. I can imagine living there.
Have 9 lives like cats or own 9 Porches? 9 lives man. Create a new legacy in every life you’re given. Boom! Also, you got 9 Porches for what? Parking susah guna Grab jugak. (At last, you’re going to be using Grab anyways because of parkings.)
1 million dollars to save in your bank account or give it away to charities? Invest in things to help yourself first and the people around you. Only then use the tools and influence you have to help the less fortunate. I am sometimes sceptical on donating money to charities, because you don’t handle the accounts so you don’t know where the money goes and what is spent on.
Eat pizza for your whole life or rendang instead? PIZZA FOR LIFE!

Here Comes The Pain: Hip-Hop’s Biggest Wrestling Fans
When you think about it, it’s really no surprise that many rappers are avid fans of professional wrestling. Predicated on clashing egos, pageantry and more than a hint of bravado, there’s plenty of shared attributes between the rap game and what transpires within the famed squared circle. As such, transposing the sights and sounds of the mid 2000’s hip-hop landscape into audacious hand-to-hand combat for Def Jam: Vendetta and its superior sequel Fight For New York was an almost seamless process. Larger than life characters in their own right, it’s only natural that many rappers would gravitate towards the bombastic heels and triumphant babyfaces of the time-honoured profession.
From artists that have subsisted below the mainstream’s glare to some of the biggest MCs to ever step in the arena, it’s time to separate the casual viewers from hip-hop’s resident grappling fanatics. To clarify, this isn’t going to be an exhaustible overview of every rapper that’s thrown in a token reference to a wrestler or devastating finishing move here or there. Instead, we’ll be charting those MCs whose careers are inextricably linked to sports entertainment in one way or another, either from drawing a heft of inspiration from its tropes or actively participating in its culture.
Mark Dadswell/Getty Images
It should come as no surprise that Ric Flair has morphed into one of hip-hop’s informal patron saints. Nowadays, nods to the rolex-wearing, jet-flying, wheelin-dealin’ son-of-a-Gun are commonplace, with the Naitch even showing up in a plethora of music videos and rhyming couplets respectively. But long before Offset expounded on the virtues of having the “Ric Flair Drip,” it was a man that’s no stranger to upsetting the status quo that opted to bring him into hip-hop lore in earnest.
The centrepiece of 2011’s PL3DGE, Dungeon Family veteran Killer Mike ushered in a career rebirth with “Ric Flair.” Formed of his obligatorily punchy verses and some of the iconic wrestler’s greatest promos from Crockett-era WCW, the Georgia native would go on to expand on his love for “The Man” during Run The Jewels’ edition of Pitchfork’s Over/Under. Amid a typically fiery rant that saw him run down the soon-to-be disgraced Hulk Hogan, Mike explained that it was the ideology of the Ric Flair character that drew him to old Space Mountain himself.
“He endorsed women, drugs, Mercedes Benz, fur coats in the summer… That is the true heavyweight champion of the world, that is the only heavyweight champion of the world. He wore big gold and Hulk Hogan is nothing but an oversized model.”
Remaining on the southern side of the Mason-Dixon line, another beloved icon that’s long maintained a penchant for the squared circle is Lil Wayne. When he wasn’t dabbling with skateboarding or experimenting with electric guitar, Weezy— who has referenced a cadre of the profession’s all time greats including Andre The Giant, the N.W.O and Sid Vicious— spoke to Bleacher Report about his love for the medium and his aspirations of testing his mettle in wrestling’s leading organization:
“Vince, Vince McMahon. Well first I want to say why the hell does he walk like that? Has he been to prison before? That strut kills me but I respect him for what he does, he basically built an empire. I do need to talk to Vince though, as you know I try to be the best at whatever I do, so I am planning my pro wrestling debut.”
When pressed to expand on his blueprint for a career between the ropes, Wayne produced a moniker and finisher that’d lead you to believe that he’d contemplated it before.
“Well I would be BWA, which stands for Best Wrestler Alive [laughs] and my special move would be call the toilet because I am the ish and I just be doodooing all over the other wrestler’s, ya dig?”
Ronald Martinez/Getty Images
Shifting generations, there are no shortage of modern-day stars that are beholden to wrestling for inspiration. Among the colourful and charismatic MCs this side of ODB and Biz Markie, Flatbush Zombies have an unrequited love for all things WWE. From the outset of their career, Meechy Darko was eager to refer to himself as “Randy Savage On Acid,” even declaring the late Macho Man to be the “greatest wrestler that ever lived” during an interview with Nardwuar. Alongside staging a “Zeltron Vs Zombies” soundclash against Denzel Curry, Meech, Zombie Juice and Erick also engaged in a spot of ill-fated CZW-style backyard wrestling for their “New World Order” video with Durt Cobain sporting a vintage Dennis “Rodzilla” Rodman NWO shirt for good measure.
Remaining in the Empire state, Smoke DZA has made his fondness for sports entertainment pronounced since the outset of his career. Although he’d been prone to a lyrical nod here and there, his fandom became undeniable with the first edition of his Ringside EP series. Launched on the night of Wrestlemania XXX in 2013, he has since turned in another seven instalments of the grappling-oriented project that repurposes themes and contorts them into his normal brand of kush-sprinkled rhyming. If that isn’t enough to satiate any cravings for wrestling-themed hip-hop, be sure to check out the work of Pennsylvania’s Mega-Ran. Longtime friends with The New Day’s own Xavier Woods, 2016’s Mat Maniais a masterclass in fusing the two mutually appreciative subcultures.
After performing “Invincible” at Wrestlemania 28, the ever divisive MGK spoke to Wrestling Inc about how he’d extracted strength from the artform in his youth. Or at least he did prior to Kevin Owens fulfilling the dreams of Eminem stans all over the world by hitting Colson with a powerbomb through a table.
“Wrestling in the 90s was a huge part of mainstream culture and definitely in the area where I’ve grown up, the Midwest,” he declared. “That was our Monday Night Football, you know what I mean? That was the people that we were looking up to because wrestlers give off that underdog vibe, like the John Cena’s and the Rocks… they overcome all this adversity, and it’s inspiring.” Although he’s expressed a desire to do further work with the company, his rep as a wrestling fan is certainly dwarfed by another MC that’s sporadically appeared on WWE fans’ screens.
Wale is the embodiment of a grappling aficionado that uses his platform to meld his two passions in any way he can. On top of hosting a controversy-garnering rap-battle between The New Day and The Uso’s on Smackdown! Live and staging an annual Walemania convention during Wrestlemania Weekend, the Gifted MC also summarized the plight of the beleaguered long-time viewer like few else could during an interview with The Undefeated, saying, “When wrestling is good, it’s amazing. When it’s not good, you hoping nobody’s seeing you watch the shit.”
Having shared a panel on wrestling with Wale at Complexcon, the only artist that could possibly rival Wale’s encyclopaedic knowledge of wrestling’s golden age is Mr. Baklava himself, Action Bronson.
Speaking to HNHH in February 2015, Bronsolino— whose debut album’s title Mr. Wonderful was an ode to WWE Hall of Famer Paul Orndorff in itself—outlined his favourite in-ring performers of all time and cited some names that go way beyond the average casual viewer. “I used to love watching all types of wrestling, man. Tito Santana and Rick Martell when they were the tag team (Strike Force) and split up. The Hart Foundation, Kamala, Bruno Sammortino… Papa Shango, Koko B Ware, Arn Anderson, Dean Malenko, Psychosis,” he relayed.
But where “Bam Bam” has penned odes to infamous jobber Barry Horowitz and dubbed himself to be the “Intercontinental Champion,” he’s abstained from using a wrestling reference for a side project in the vein of Westside Gunn and Conway. A homage to “The Outsiders” from WCW, their deep-rooted respect for the lineage is so strong that Westside Gunn took to Instagram to voice his umbrage with what he saw as Drake’s aesthetical foray into the subculture:
“Drake is probably a Kool dude who knows, but my company logo is the scorpion and coincidentally he names his album Scorpion. I was at Coachella wearing the hat and somebody says, ‘Is that Drake’s hat?’ I almost smacked him, now he’s rocking Scott Hall sh*t when I’ve never seen this ni**a anywhere at any wrestling event and I go by Hall…”
George Napolitano/FilmMagic/Getty Images
No matter how infatuated they may be with the realm of scripted combat, there is one wizened rapper that’s more synonymous with the industry than any other. Snoop Dogg breached the walls of sports entertainment’s most hallowed club when he was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame.
A harmonious and reciprocal relationship that has withstood the test of time, hip-hop artists and wrestlers are bonded by a shared desire to not only be the best in their field but to get their due respect for their unmatched prowess. As a parting gift, enjoy the incredible “Pay-Per-View,” a vastly underrated gem which features Ruff Ryders’ Drag-On, Eve, Jadakiss and Styles P rhyming almost entirely in mid-90’s wrestling references.

Note
would you by any chance be up to just answer all of them rn
sjdnflskjdsnfdgsdfg this is gonna kill me and i’m so excited
READ MORE FOR ONCE to spare yalls dashboards
and i took out the ones i answered already tbh OK LET’S GO
1 : What age-group do you write?
YA!!!! i have always always wanted to write for teens. since i’ve gotten older, i do also wanna write for young adults but definitely like anything between 13-25 is the people i rly dedicate my stories to
2 : What genre do you write?
again, the closest thing i’d subscribe to genre-wise is YA... i get bored only doing the same thing over and over, but atm i have the most scifis (the most being two) so i guess that! i do fucking LOVE horror and realistic fiction tho
3 : Do you outline according to big ideas or small details?
how small are we talking... i do rly obsessively outline tho, i get the main big plot points down and then i like to know what those lil details in between are.. so...
5 : Do you write better with or without deadlines?
DON’T GIVE ME A DEADLINEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE..................
like, sure, i’ll DO it, but will i LIKE IT.. NAH... PROBABLY NOT... i did nanowrimo once, it was a great experience but was the final product good? nah... so... nnnnnah
6 : What would be the biggest compliment you could hope to receive on your current WIP?
GOSH I DONT KNOW.... JUST... ASKING FOR MORE, I GUESS??????? actually the biggest compliment is people building on my ideas or asking me questions about it tbh, anything that shows how engaged they rly got is NICE... i also do rly like when people compliment my prose tho kfgsdfgs
7 : How long is your current WIP?
tsg is 9449 words as of rn! i am far too lazy to open up the other documents and check but they are FAR shorter!
10 : Do you brain-storm story ideas alone or with others?
bothhhhh... i do have way more fun with other people though, and i think other people help more cuz they can make connections and ask questions i wouldn’t think of. most importantly, if there are plot holes, maybe they’ll find them for me.. or maybe even solve them!!! eee the best
11 : Do you base your characters off of real people?
y e s yes yes i do i have so many... like, there’s a cara in every story, there’s a maeve and britt in every story, if i know you for long enough, you’ll def appear SOMEwhere.
12 : Is your writing space clean or cluttered?
what is this ‘clean’ you speak of
13 : Do you write character-driven or plot-driven stories?
def characters, man, i wouldn’t even write a plot if you’d let me... i literally have so many stories where the plot IS just the characters kind of just. living. yes. so good
14 : Do you have a favorite writing-related quote?
if i DID i forgot it
15 : If you transport your original characters into another author’s world, which world would you choose?
imma be honest, if i had to pick any author in the world it would be britt @mmementommori‘s verse. i absolutely fucking ADORE everything that went into that story, the verse is fascinating and perfect and my characters would fit in so well and also would be tortured for all of eternity. what could be better???
19 : Would you rather live in your characters’ world, or have your characters come live in our world?
i wanna live in tsg cuz then vampires would be real and i could finally be one, y es
20 : What book would you love to see adapted for the big or small screen?
i’ve been watching a lot of... rly... gay... amazing movies... like, beautifully made and SO grand and larger than life and so CAREFULLY LOVINGLY made... like the handmaiden or moonlight.. and because of that, i would LOVE to see tsg as a movie. i think it’d fit right in and the idea of a lgbt horror movie hitting the scren is... g o d
21 : Do you finish most of the stories you start?
yyyees and nnnoooo....more no than yes... the furthest i get usually is the first draft and onto revising and then i get bored and move on but i’m getting better
22 : Has your own writing ever made you cry?
what is this ‘cry’ you speak of
actually once i did this rp scene with @mvgitek and... imma be real... there might’ve been a tear or two
23 : Are you proud or anxious to show off your writing?
anxious the first couple of seconds, proud the rest of the time. i don’t doubt that my writing is good but also... WILL THEY THINK MY WRITING IS GOOD???
24 : When did you start considering yourself a writer?
in the 3rd grade when i started making lil paperback books for all the kids in my class. maybe even a lil bit before that
28 : On a scale of 1-10, how much do you stress about choosing character names?
def a 1 omg. name is usually one of the first things that pop up for me. if it doesn’t pop up immediately when my baby is a lil shyer, i give them a placeholder. no big. it’ll come eventually
29 : Do you tend to underwrite or overwrite in a first draft?
overwrite... in that... i write the first draft like its the only draft, cuz it pretty much will be i hate revising so much jfkgsg
30 : Does writing calm you down or stress you out?
calm, i suppose... i can and have zoned out and just written for hours, like, ten hours straight, more than that... that’s a nice feeling yes
31 : What trope do you actually like?
what’s with the phrasing of this question... as if i’m only pretending to like most tropes...also i can never remember tropes off the top of my head and i still have 20 questions to go sO..SKIPPING...
32 : Do you give your side-characters extensive backstories?
Y E P.... is it really a side-character if you don’t obsess about them more than the mains at times because they’re so complex and you love them so much
33 : Do you flesh-out characters before you write, or let their personalities develop over time?
nah those fuckers jump outta the brain womb fully formed, pretty much. their personalities do develop more as i write but i have a rly good grasp of them before i even start the story
34 : Describe your old writing in one word.
amazingwhatalittlecutieohmygodimisshavingthissymplisticwritingstylelikeyoubitchyoudidntevenrealizewhatyouhadandnowitsGONE
35 : Is it more fun to write villains or heroes?
VILLAINS... duh....
36 : Do you write with a black and white sense of morality?
nah... largely cuz my own morality is skewed, also because most of the point of the stories is exploring morality and what it means and seeing how it gets corrupted in the protags
37 : What’s one piece of advice you would give to new writers?
you will be so much happier if you stop writing like anyone else and stop writing what people want you to write and just write for you and you only, everything else falls into place after you accept this!! AND PRACTICE
38 : What’s one piece of writing advice you try--but fail--to follow?
i hate almost all writing advice so there isn’t anything i’m attempting that i’m not doing tbh cuz i don’t wanna do any of it i’m a brat haha
39 : How important is positive reinforcement to you as a writer?
it’s important as in i’m narcissistic so anything negative puts me into a blind rage which is a damper on my mood omsfjgsfgs. also it keeps me vibing and keeps me hyped to channel out more work faster
40 : What would you ask your favorite author if given one question?
‘how the fuck’
41 : Do you find it distracting to read while you’re writing a first draft?
NAH i feel it to be absolutely necessary tbh. when i don’t read, i don’t write nearly as often and sometimes not even as well. i find other books to be rly healthy friendly competition, and when i read, immediately after i think ‘why isn’t my stuff published? why isn’t my book on the shelves with this one? i should get to work holy fuck’
42 : Do critiques motivate or discourage you?
depends! again, narcissistic, but i’ve gotten better and i do want to learn more. as long as it’s constructive and, by constructive, i mean that it still compliments me a lot and gives me the good AND the not-so-good then it’s fine, i get motivated. i never get discouraged, i’m either hype or i’m livid, which gives me evil hype and i write more outta spite haha
44 : How do you decide what story idea to work on?
i just get... the vibe... where suddenly i wanna work on a story so i do. sometimes i can tell a story isn’t ready so even if i feel like working on it, i won’t, but otherwise, i just wait for the vibe...
46 : What Hogwarts house would your protagonist(s) be in?
slytherin: red, bert, nora, amara, nathaniel, mal, katherine, tyler, eve and avery
gryffindor: black, nisha, rachel, caleb (unless i’m mean and make him a slytherin), cupid, aurora, frank, nicky, tasha, sinclair
ravenclaw: aaron, andrey, astra, antionette, blair, lucia
hufflepuff: jackie (unless i’m mean and make him a slytherin), cassandra, danny, ezra, emily, skylar, anna, null
47 : Where do you see yourself as a writer in five years?
book or two published, working on another three or so but who knows omfhsjgs
48 : Would you ever co-write?
i wanna co-write something so BAD......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
49 : Are you a fast and rushed writer or a slow and deliberate writer?
fast and rushed omfg i can’t write slow for shit.. wish i could.. i’m getting better
OH MY GOD I’M DONE WOWWWWWWWWWWWWW THANK YOU SO MUCH ANGEL

color vision soulmate aus
ok so my favorite (and also the most terrifying) version of the “you are colorblind until you meet your soulmate” concept i have seen is as follows:
all of the regular tropes - plus, if (before finding your soulmate) you fall for anyone who ISN'T your soulmate, you gradually lose your vision and can eventually go blind.
that is such an interesting addition, and also upon consideration, would make for a FUCKED UP society. and yet the person who I saw come up with it didn't seem to give any indication that they REALIZED how fucked up that world would be. they were just doing a romance RP thread yknow? sometimes people just wanna play some cheesy tropes straight. and don’t get me wrong, i respect that.
but it hit me in a weird place because seriously. that would be so dystopian. society would probably discourage people from having close friends or dating before finding their soulmate bc like...”what if you get TOO CLOSE to them & are vision impaired forever??” people who lost their vision completely would probably be stigmatized as like bad judges of character or as promiscuous or some shit (because 'society is terrible to those who don't fit the narrative' wouldn't just disappear as a Thing That Humans Do).
that world seems specifically designed to make people super lonely prior to meeting their soulmate, and predisposed to be unhealthily dependent on their soulmate after they find them because now they’re (probably) adults who don’t have any experience making close friends or trusting other people & that shit is hard to learn. (although to some extent modern western society already does some of that isolating/alienating shit...well i guess that’s something for a story set in such a world to maybe explore.)
it would be So Messed Up y'all. and so fascinating to explore. i love dystopian fucked up soulmate aus.

Undies is a weekly radio show focused on all things hip-hop with a focus on underground and experimental, and hosted by me, Casey Chamberlain. Due to the relatively light load of recent releases in this trying time, this week I’ll be doing something a little different, as during my time inside this week I decided to revisit each of Kanye West’s studio albums in chronological release order. Though this is by no means a new idea, I’ll be doing a breakdown of each album here, and my current thoughts on each project. I’ll also add my favorite and least favorite songs from each project, as well as my favorite features to spice things up, since Kanye’s ability to bring together a star-studded cast is so integral to his work. I’ll be back to normal write-ups next week!
Here we go, from the top:
The College Dropout
A certified classic. A wonderful introduction, and Kanye at his most joyous. On this album, Kanye just feels so energized and full of life. Everything about this project is joyful, the feature list is stacked, and it feels like an incredibly strong entrance onto the scene. Widely influential and full of some of Kanye’s best and catchiest tracks, there’s little bad to say about TCD. While I don’t revisit it all that often compared to some of Kanye’s later work, and I think it runs a little long, it’s an excellent album.
Favorite tracks: “We Don’t Care”, “Spaceship”, “Jesus Walks”, “Last Call”
Least favorite tracks: “The New Workout Plan”
Favorite features: Talib Kweli and Common (”Get Em High”), Jay-Z (”Never Let Me Down”), Mos Def (”Two Words”)
Late Registration
This is where I think Kanye really started to shine. On listening to this album again, I was surprised by how well it stood the test of time, which is not something that can be said for all of his work. While the energy is similar to a lot of what Kanye brought to College Dropout, LR feels a lot more focused, and features some really excellent emotional tracks like “Roses” and “Hey Mama”, as well as some poignant moments of commentary such as on “Crack Music” and “Diamonds From Sierra Leone”. I think LR has some of the highest highs of Ye’s career, and very few lows. The features are once again excellent as well- the rapport Kanye and Jay Z have on “Diamonds From Sierra Leone - Remix” is infectious, and “We Major” is Kanye at his grandest and has an absolutely killer verse from Nas. In retrospect, Late Registration kind of feels like the transition from the style Kanye came onto the scene with to the more pop-oriented sound featured on Graduation, which I’ll get to. I’m almost surprised by how much I love Late Registration, and I think it easily stands as some of his best work and an ambitious classic.
Favorite Tracks: “Diamonds From Sierra Leone - Remix”, “We Major”, “Crack Music”, “Roses”, “Hey Mama”, “Late”
Least favorite tracks: “Addiction”, “Celebration”
Favorite features: Jay-Z (”Diamonds From Sierra Leone - Remix”), Nas (”We Major”), Lupe Fiasco (”Touch The Sky”)
Graduation
This is where my thoughts on Kanye’s discography may start to differ from many others: I don’t like Graduation all that much, and every time I revisit it I hope to like it more, usually to no avail. I think a lot of it hasn’t aged all that well, and it really sounds like it’s from 2007. While it has some of Kanye’s most popular songs, I think it has some of his weakest as well (who thought “Drunk and Hot Girls” was a good idea?). It’s definitely catchy, and it’s got some standouts, like “Stronger”, “Good Morning”, and my personal favorite, “Everything I Am”. While I don’t think it’s Kanye’s weakest, I think it’s one of the least fully realized. Coming off of the last two, it feels less complete, and much more of it’s time. Of this original “trilogy” of Ye albums, it’s definitely the weakest.
Favorite tracks: “Everything I Am”, “Stronger”, “Good Morning”, “Glory”, “Big Brother”
Least favorite tracks: “Drunk and Hot Girls”, “Good Life”, “Champion”
Favorite features: Lil Wayne (”Barry Bonds”), DJ Premier (”Everything I Am”)
808s & Heartbreak
Alright, I just don’t like this album that much. I think it’s super weak compared to the rest of his work, and listening to everything in order you really can see the left turn this was. While it’s absolutely essential, I just really don’t enjoy a lot of the material on this album. While it’s got a few great songs, as a whole package it just feels messy to me. I don’t think it’s really bad per say, I just don’t enjoy this style, especially from Kanye. I don’t really have much to say about this one, it’s really you love it or don’t care all too much. I’m in that second boat. “Street Lights” is a top ten Kanye song, though.
Favorite tracks: “Street Lights”, “Welcome To Heartbreak”, “Heartless”
Least favorite tracks: “Pinocchio Story”, “Amazing”, “Bad News”, “See You In My Nightmares”
Favorite features: Kid Cudi (”Welcome To Heartbreak”)
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Still easily my favorite Kanye album (hot take, I know). The way every single thing on this album comes together is seriously something special. This album sounds like it could have come out today and it would still be in a league of its own. The sheer scale of this album, the features, the songwriting, the emotions, it’s completely unrivaled. Some of Kanye’s catchiest, most accessible songs sit on this album while never being simple; every single song has so much going on, so many great verses and moments, nothing feels out of place. Coming off of his previous work, this is such a massive step up, from good or great to absolutely amazing, that it’s almost hard to look back and think this was the quality Kanye is capable of when you look at what he’s currently doing. This album is truly something special. “Runaway” is obviously the highlight here: it’s one of the grandest and most heartfelt, brutal songs I’ve ever heard, and, I think, seriously one of the best songs ever written. “Devil in a New Dress” is classy perfection, and Rick Ross delivers arguably the best verse on the whole album, which is saying something. Nicki Minaj demolishes everyone else on “Monster”, Pusha T on “So Appalled” is too good for human comprehension, and Justin Vernon’s contributions are just the icing on the cake. Honestly, a perfect album.
Favorite tracks (can i say every single one?): “Runaway”, “Devil In A New Dress”, “Gorgeous”, “POWER”, “Lost In The World”, “So Appalled”, “All Of The Lights”
Least favorite tracks: “Blame Game” (I guess? I still love it, I just think the Chris Rock skit is a bit... much)
Favorite features (again, everyone, honestly): Pusha T (”Runaway”, “So Appalled”), Rick Ross (”Devil In A New Dress”), Kid Cudi (”Gorgeous”), CyHi The Prynce (”So Appalled”), Nicki Minaj (”Monster”), Bon Iver (”Monster”, “Lost In The World”)
Yeezus
Oh boy. Ok, so... I love and hate Yeezus, but I think I lean a little more towards love. This is easily Kanye’s most controversial album, maybe apart from ye. I think the abrasiveness of this album is a bit much, and it’s got some songs I really don’t care for, and really detract from the album in my opinion (“Send It Up”, parts of “Guilt Trip”, “I Am A God”, “I’m In It”- yes, I realize I just named half of the album). But, despite all of this, the highlights of Yeezus are seriously gorgeous. The outro on “New Slaves” is heavenly; “Hold My Liquor” is surreal; and more than anything, “Bound 2” is Kanye’s second best song, ever (second only to Runaway). “Bound 2”, to me, is the perfect encapsulation of what Yeezus means, at least to me. That juxtaposition between the abrasive noise, and the beautiful soul samples, that infectiously emotional hook, and some of Kanye’s best storytelling all lead to a this song feeling like an admission of fault. It feels like this whole album is Kanye pretending that there’s nothing wrong, that he’s infallible, and that “Bound 2” is him finally admitting to himself his vulnerabilities and issues. It’s moments like this that make it hard to say I don’t love Yeezus.
Favorite tracks: “Bound 2″, “Hold My Liquor”, “New Slaves”, “Blood on the Leaves”
Least favorite tracks: “I’m In It”, “Send It Up”, “Guilt Trip”, “I Am A God”
Favorite features: Frank Ocean (”New Slaves”), Chief Keef (”Hold My Liquor”), Mike Dean (”Hold My Liquor”)
The Life Of Pablo
This is where things start to get really weird. This is probably Kanye’s messiest album; hell, this isn’t even the originally released album anymore. But as a whole package, it really just works, and it’s got some of Kanye’s best work. To me it’s always felt like Dark Fantasy-lite: it’s got the same feeling, but it’s a lot messier and a lot less ambitious. But the tone and me-against-the-world vibe, combined with the stacked feature list, makes this album feel like Fantasy’s successor, at least looking back at it now. Pablo has some of my absolute favorite ye songs, like “No More Parties In LA” (how do you get Kendrick Lamar on a track and still outdo him?), “Wolves”, and “Ultralight Beam”. Is it a cohesive album? Maybe not as much as others in his catalog, but the strength of so much of this material carries it towards the top of the pack. Plus, the interludes are golden; “Siiiiiiiiiilver Surfer Intermission” and “I Love Kanye” are hilarious.
Favorite tracks: “No More Parties In LA”, “Ultralight Beam”, “Real Friends”, “Frank’s Track”, “Waves”, “FML”, “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1″, “Saint Pablo”, “Freestyle 4″, “Famous”
(I told you, I love a lot of the material here)
Least favorite tracks: “Highlights”, “Feedback”
Favorite features: Kendrick Lamar (”No More Parties In LA”), Chance The Rapper (”Ultralight Beam”), Frank Ocean (”Frank’s Track”), Kid Cudi (”Father Stretch My Hands Pt.1″, “Waves”), The Weeknd (”FML”)
ye
Alright, I’ve gone on far too long, so I’m gonna keep these last few short: there isn’t much to say anyway. ye gets a lot of hate, and I do understand why. It’s short, underdeveloped, and has some of Kanye’s worst ever bars and hooks. But the strong stuff here is nothing short of amazing. “Ghost Town” and “Violent Crimes” are incredible. Honestly, the only track I really hate is “All Mine”, which is straight up atrocious. In that sense I kind of wish this album was even shorter, just cut out that track and it’s very decent. Middle of the pack Kanye for me, but the real mark of decline going forward (with the exception of KSG, but I’ll get to that).
Favorite tracks: “Ghost Town”, “Violent Crimes”, “No Mistakes”
Least favorite tracks: “All Mine”
Favorite features: Kid Cudi (”Ghost Town”), 070 Shake (”Ghost Town”, “Violent Crimes”)
KIDS SEE GHOSTS
This one’s kind of cheating. If I include this, I should have included Watch The Throne, but whatever. This is my second favorite Kanye project, and both ye and Cudi absolutely killed this project. It’s short, concise, minimalistic, and therapeutic. Every single song is a standout. It feels like both of them are in the absolute right headspace here, and are almost just venting and talking things out on this experimental and boundary pushing project. Almost nothing bad to say about KSG, it’s really, really great.
Favorite tracks: “Cudi Montage”, “Kids See Ghosts”, “4th Dimension”, “Freeee (Ghost Town Pt. 2)”
Least favorite tracks: none. Seriously.
Favorite features: Pusha T (”Feel The Love”), Yasiin Bey (”Kids See Ghosts”)
Jesus Is King
Alright, that’s it, I’ve talked about all the albums, there’s nothing left.
Nah but seriously, this album is lame. If you’ve heard any of the original material here that was supposed to make up Yandhi, even the good you can salvage from this is ruined. I really hope he doesn’t stick to this style. I’ve really got nothing else to say, this is absolutely not it and easily the weakest project in his catalog. I guess I’m happy for him if he’s legitimately found God but I really hope that faith doesn’t continue to manifest into whatever the hell this is. “Follow God” is a cool track though.
Favorite tracks: “Follow God”, I guess “Selah” was almost cool?
Least favorite tracks: everything else
Favorite features: The Clipse reunion was ok I guess?
And that’s it! This was a much longer write up than anticipated, but it was a fun way to spend some quarantine time. I truly love Kanye and I think (almost) all of his projects are of at least some quality, and he’s really made some incredible work. Back to normal next week! Thanks for reading!

The 25 Best Songs About Butts: A Ranked Guide

The 25 Best Songs About Butts: A Ranked Guide
The 25 Best Songs About Butts: A Ranked Guide
If we’ve learned one thing during the course of the last year or so, it’s that butts are back—and with them the resurrection of a the booty song. While some critics have commented that a healthy backside never really went anywhere, we respectfully disagree. To wit: There once was a time when Jennifer Lopez‘s most defining feature was her shapely butt.
Throughout the late ’90s and early 2000s, Lopez was an enigma in a world of stick-skinny models and actresses, causing critics and the public alike to gawk like she was some sort of mystical creature whose derriere was a thing of wonder. But somewhere around the mid-aughts, ultra-thin became the norm in Hollywood again, and it seemed that J.Lo’s booty went the way of Juicy tracksuits. Then in 2007 a girl named Kim Kardashian appeared on the scene, and the topic of celebrity butts was once again at the forefront.
Now, a decade later, it’s at an all-time high, with everyone in Hollywood tripping over themselves to prove that they have the biggest, roundest, sexiest ass. Even J.Lo’s back on the butt train, trying semi-desperately to steal back her title, having launched a not-subtle single called “Booty,” and promoted it with—what else?—a photo of her own backside.

But there’s a long history of moneymakers being idolized in song—from Queen’s 1976 hit “Fat-Bottomed Girls” to 1992’s defining ass anthem “Baby Got Back”—so we decided to do a deep-dive into  music’s vast booty-themed catalog and come up with a ranking of the 25 best songs about butts.
25. “Anaconda” Nicki Minaj
When Nicki first appeared on the music scene, her rap skills were bananas (if you haven’t heard her ferocious verse in Kanye West‘s 2010 “Monster,” seek it out, stat), but it’s safe to say that her lyrics have declined. Not that we don’t love a good lettuce reference, but “he tossed my salad so good we be calling him romaine” is maybe less than brilliant.
24. “U and Dat” E-40 Ft. T-Pain and Khandi
Most of 2006 was spend tryna to get to yooouuuuuuuuuu and that booty.
23. “Shake That” by Eminem ft. Nate Dogg
There’s the stuff that made Eminem interesting, then there’s stuff like this. It’s a forgettable party track, but it gets points for featuring the ever-smooth Dogg (RIP.)
22. “Booty” Jennifer Lopez ft. Iggy Azalea
All the ingredients for a perfect pop song: Catchy, sexy, a little desperate.
21. “Salt Shaker” Ying Yang Twins Ft. Lil John and the East Side Boyz
God bless the Dirty South.
20. “Shake Your Rump” Beastie Boyz
If anyone doubts the inventiveness of the Beastie Boyz lyrics, Google this song.
19. “2 Much Booty (In da Pants),” Soundmaster T
If you were listening to pop radio in 1994, you’ve probably still got “DANCE! Too much booty in the pants!” in your head.
18. “Tush” Ghostface Killah Ft. Missy Elliot
If it sounds familiar, it’s because it was censored and played on the radio in 2003 as “Push.” Not surprising considering its crowning lyrics include “tush, tush, tush/Wanna slide in the bush, bush, bush?/I’m on top, you like push, push, push/Keep it low like shush, shush, shush.
 17. “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” Trace Adkins
We realize this 2004 country track isn’t exactly good, per se, but we’d be remiss to not include it simply for the fact that its ringtone alone received more than 75,000 downloads and there’s a European compilation album built around various mixes of the song.
16. “Pull Over” Trina
Early-aughts rapper Trina was deemed “as nasty as Lil’ Kim used to be” when her album “Da Baddest Bitch” dropped in 2000, and this song pretty much proves it. Trina might have faded away after one album, but this jet ski-heavy video lives on.
15. “All About That Bass” Meghan Trainor
We know the retro-tinged earworm is about having a big ass, but it’s safe to say nobody knows what being all about bass really means. Let us help: “You know how the bass guitar in a song is like its ‘thickness,’ the ‘bottom’? I kind of related a body to that,” Trainor told Billboard.  We assume that means the treble is a lightweight.

14. “Low” Flo Rida
The song that sparked shorties everywhere to get ‘dem Apple Bottom jeans. And boots with the fur. And Reeboks with the strap.
13. “Culo” Pitbull ft. Lil John
Before Mr. Worldwide exclusively dressed like an extra from “Scarface,” he bopped around Miami in tank tops, bellowing “CULO!!!” Suffice it to say, you need not be a linguist to know what that means.
12. “Bubble Butt” Major Lazer ft. 2 Chainz, Bruno Mars, Tyga and Mystic
An all-star lineup spewing some of pop music’s most profound lyrics. Behold:
Bubble butt, bubble, bubble, bubble butt Bubble butt, bubble, bubble, bubble butt Turn around, stick it out, show the world what you got a Bubble butt, bubble, bubble, bubble butt Bubble butt, bubble, bubble, bubble butt Bubble butt, bubble, bubble, bubble butt Turn around, stick it out, show the world you got it!
11. “Big Ole Butt” LL Cool J
This story has everything: Milkshakes, the mall, shrimp and steak at Red Lobster, bamboo earrings, pipin’ hot pizza, and a hoe named Tina who has a BOB.
10. (Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty” KC and the Sunshine Band
This 1976 confection was considered controversial when it came out, thanks to randy lyrics that include “shake shake shake/shake shake shake/shake your booty.” A testament to its longevity: It’s still played at every catering hall wedding, ’70s theme party, and bar mitzvah in America.
9. “My Humps” The Black-Eyed Peas
Arguably the song that put Fergie’s lovely lady lumps on the map.
8.  “Back Dat Ass Up” Juvenile
His name kind of says it all, but we still dig this 1998 banger.
  7. “Bonita Applebum”  A Tribe Called Quest
Granted, this classic isn’t about butts, per se, but we’re giving it a spot because of its title. And because it’s awesome.
6. “Ms. Fat Booty” Mos Def
Arguably the smoothest song about butts ever written.
5. “Fat Bottomed Girls” Queen
Freddie Mercury and the gang made waves with their 1976 celebration of curves.
4. “Bootylicious” Destiny’s Child
You know the story: This song’s immense popularity causes it to be added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2004.
3. “Rumpshaker” Wrex-n-Effects
As soon as people heard that first saxophone lick (sampled from 1972’s “Darkest Light” by Lafayette Afro Rock Band) they were hooked on 1992’s now-classic. Fun fact: The second verse was written by a young Pharrell Williams.
2. “Baby Got Back” Sir Mix-a-Lot
Oh. My. God Becky, we know this song normally ends up at number one on lists like these, and while it was groundbreaking in its own way, there’s no doubt it’s become a parody of itself, thanks to a Glee cover and an ad campaign for Charmin toilet paper that showcases an animated bear rocking out to the original song.
1. “The Thong Song” Sisqo
We herby declare this absolutely ridiculous song number one on our list, thanks to its creative use of strings (performed by violinist Bruce Dukov, believe it or not), it’s early-aughts benchmarks (Sisqo’s bleached hair, belly button tattoo, flowy all-white outfit, fingerless gloves on the beach), agile gymnastics moves, and the fact that the entire world was trumpeting “THONG-THA-THONG-THONG-THONG” with straight faces as we rung in the millennium.
