most of my past hyperfixations have been pieces of media with a fandom i could interact with but it seems that plane crashes dont have the same cult following of gay people

flint fascinates me bc he comes off as rlly polite and kind

they apologize often and it seems like they try to be nice to others, but then u look deeper and take into account different details

one of the biggest things abt flint that gets overlooked is that he likes drama .

i dont think liking drama itself is bad, why else do we have reality tv shows yk. but i think they actively indulge in it and one of the biggest things that points to this for me is how they treat the satellite investors

he seems to talk bad about them behind their backs, then can't handle the comeuppance of cosmo yelling at him.

this is further implied with cosmo saying they're "goin' around spreadin' lies", meaning flint does actively talk shit on what might be a regular basis. and flint saying "oh, no, I shouldn't have said that" implies FURTHER that they KNOW they're gonna get yelled at for it but continue to do it anyway with the hope cosmo wont find out. like hes not sorry for doing it, only sorry for getting caught.

cosmo gets HEAVILY neglected both in the community as a whole and whenever flint is brought up even though they have a really interesting and honestly hilarious dynamic (but thats for another post..)

whenever cosmo DOES get brought up in the context of he and flints relationship, people defend flint and blame cosmo for being "mean" to him. but tbh, i think cosmo has a fair point in this particular text. Flint can talk all he wants, but at the end of the day can't handle the consequences of it and lacks the confidence to put his foot down. He's a follower, not a leader (unlike cosmo, who flint looks up to canonically. WHICH NO ONE TALKS ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!)

flint also seems to have an interesting habit of apologizing even though he actively and intentionally attacks the toons right after

which i think is interesting. i think it's just a habit of his to say sorry when he knows he's doing/has done something wrong (especially bc he doesnt like facing the consequences), even if hes not actually sorry. Considering this is the same person who claims they like setting toons on fire, i dont think any of these apologies are sincere:

speaking of not being able to handle the consequences, when flint does get defeated by toons, there's a line that sticks out.

Specifically the "i'll be back" feels vengeful. Like he takes the defeat personally, and doesn't want to give up because it makes him feel weak and he wants to come out on top.

something else i find interesting and almost jarring in flint's dialogue is some of their Power Trip dialogue:

this dude is incredibly power hungry. he craves confidence and the ability to be a leader, given how he looks up to cosmo and is drawn to graham, who also appears confident.

speaking of graham, i think it's important to note that earlier, when flint was talking shit abt the satellite investors, he was saying that specifically to graham, who encourages flint not to "let people walk all over him".

graham encourages flint to feel more confident, which is not inherently a bad thing. confidence is great! and its something flint deserves. but i think there's an issue with how they choose to express this "confidence" on the rare occasions they do.

shown throughout this post, flint's way of trying to be confident is being power hungry, talking shit, and fighting toons . i think it's pretty clear that flint has been walked all over in the past and present, and it's caused them to become shy and a bit of a doormat. which he clearly doesn't like (more evidence of this is the fact that he explicitly dislikes belittling.)

and on the rare occasions when they're "allowed" to be confident, they proceed to belittle OTHERS, like toons. in a lot of their dialogue, they come off as condescending towards the toons, even if it's pretty awkward.

i think Flint deserves to feel confident, but the way they go about it is unhealthy. They've clearly been treated like a doormat and is fed up with it, and it seems like they lash out as a result. I think he has a good and genuine heart, but he almost comes off as bitter due to being walked all over constantly. its rlly interesting to dive into flint's flaws and the way they act due to their desperation for confidence, something they really lack.

The Damselette

She’s much more like a ghost than a girl. If you're in the Palace for long enough, you'll notice this.. feeling first. It starts out as a sense that you're being watched by something, then climbs up into a feeling of unease the more time you spend there. That's because she is watching you. She watches everyone, everything, at all times.

She's sensitive and feels all of her emotions at the fullest. Being around her is like standing in the middle of a hurricane, hoping that it spares you when it inevitably moves you into it's storm. Although it's said that she moves from plaything to plaything quicker than Dottore, her obsessions never truly fade. If you hurt her, she will feel that for centuries to come.

Everyone has reported a sense of unease in her presence. This sort of... existential dread, as if something about her were very very wrong. Even the bravest soldiers cower in her presence. It doesn't help that she's often spotted returning to her home, the blood of some unknown victim smeared over her mouth and in her teeth.

If you catch her staring in plain sight with wide, open eyes, do not look in them. That is how she will end your life. She can take it before you even process what's going on. To her, you're nothing more than a simple little slip of paper containing a story that she doesn't care to read.

Nighttimes in the Palace aren't particularly enjoyable. One of the reasons why is this constant voice in the background, an angelic melody ringing throughout the halls. If you chose one night to follow the voice to it's source, you would find her sitting by a windowsill. She spends so much time caught up in her own mind that she won't notice you, continuing to sing away. However, again, the sense of dread will strike you. You'll have to get out of there quickly.

The thing that gets me about chat gpt is how tempting it is. If everyone was aware of the flaws and willing to do their own research on topics then there isn't really a problem. In that case, it could be like any other chatbot or AI generator that people mess with for fun or out of curiosity to see what it says.

Given that it generates stuff based on all the relevant sources it can get its metaphorical hands on, it's pretty good at seeing what kinds of thing people would talk about for a subject. It's GREAT for analyzing cliches and very typical structures in writing, if you give it vague creative writing prompts (fun exercise: tell it to generate some fiction writing prompts, then give it each of those prompts. get ready for some of the most generic fiction you've ever read.)

For research...I mean. Sometimes it does give a good overview of something but as the topics get more and more niche and there are either fewer papers/articles about it or the ones that exist are behind paywalls, chat gpt becomes less accurate and more of an estimation of what it thinks a paper about this should sound like. (using thinks loosely here). And as I said, so long as people are willing to do their own research, this is fine.

But getting a quick, easy, overview of the facts without having to do potentially hours of research, having a summary of many sources already synthesized rather than going through all of them and trying to mentally compare and contrast what different people say as you go...if it could work, any college student or knowledge/research-based professional can see how tempting it would be. "Wouldn't that be great? Think about all the time and effort saved!" your average person says. But your average person does not work in AI. Your average person does not work in data science either. Nor does your average person work as a librarian, archivist, or related field. Some of them do, but enough of them don't. The average person has already ignored every teacher's advice that there is really, unfortunately, no substitute for looking through as many different reliable sources as you can. We know the AI is mostly for fun, curiosity, or perhaps a jumping-off point, but they think "well it's accurate enough isn't it? The things it says are based on way more sources than I could read in the hour or two I'm willing to spend. So it's better, right? And it's so much easier." My beloved but misguided dude, a Wikipedia article is based on way more sources than you can read in an hour or two. And that at least has a fact-checking/review process! People have to add sources! Chat gpt is an estimated imitation of a Wikipedia article, but without the weirdly dedicated nerds (complementary) who check things for accuracy. And Wikipedia isn't even considered a good source. You'll notice that it's considered...a jumping-off point. *gasp* exactly how you should treat chat gpt if you ever want to use it to actually start researching something. Pls for the love of academic integrity just do further research.

But people are sooo tempted by the easy answers (understandable). And that's why so many people are blindly trusting chat gpt.
