abyss makes me want to throw myself off a cliff...jack and daniel are the two moral centers of the show and they're usually at odds with each other, which makes for messy arguments and big emotions from both of them. and the payoff is abyss. daniel spends the whole episode trying to get jack to ascend but jack doesn't think he's good enough, and now suddenly it makes sense why he gets so frustrated with daniel throughout the previous seasons - jack doesn't think that he's a good person, so he gets angry when daniel tries to convince him to do the "right" thing, or when daniel tells him that he is a good man that shows the best of humanity's potential. in jack's mind, ascension is for people like daniel, not for people like jack, and the whole episode is the culmination of all of the previous tension in their relationship.
