Junepei: i am horrible at explaining things so sorry in advance: childhood friends, they get separated, like 10 years later they get thrown in a death game together, survive, get separated again, get thrown in another death game, survive, depending on which timeline they end up following they either get married or get separated again and junpei spends the next like 40 years searching for her where again depending on timeline (and through yet another death game) he either never finds her, finds her dead or finds her alive but entirely focused on her plan to save the world from this awful disease with timeline jumping stuff so they never get their happy ending in those ones Byler: They're childhood friends to lovers. They pine both platonically and romantically. They can't function without the other. When Mike thought Will was dead, he cried while looking at all the drawings Will gave him. Will had to move away and neither handled it well at all. They both look at each other with such longing whenever they think the other isn't looking. The pining worsens since it's the 80's so they think they can't be together and there's no chance the other will ever be gay too.
