A soft frown etches into the features of the red head’s face. Eyes observe the man for a moment before turning away again. “Do you make a habit of helping people you don’t know? Seems dangerous” probably a little more bitter than she should’ve been. Afterall, he had kind of saved her ass from that other creep. She should probably show a little more gratefulness, Kaylie wasn’t really the best at the whole…people thing. “Thanks” she finally submits, hands sliding into her pockets. “Do you need a ride somewhere or something? My car is in the parking garage over there.”

Warning - spoilers for Oculus below
The mysterious mirror which was found in the hold of the Bay Breeze when it docked 6 weeks ago is now thought to have connections to the Gunning family. The history of the mirror known as “The Lasser Glass” has been uncovered by our very own local historian Dr Sarah Gunning – and with it, a shocking Gunning family tragedy.
Dr Gunning's aunt, Eliza Russell, left Crockett Island with her 4 year old son in 1968 after her husband Peter died in a boating accident. It is thought she argued with Sarah's mother Mildred before she left, and the sisters never spoke to each other again. In the months before her departure Eliza also refused to set foot in St Patrick’s Church, where she had previously attended regular Mass.
Dr Gunning says that she has never understood what caused the rift between the two sisters, and that sadly she is now unlikely to learn, as her mother is in the grip of dementia.
"I researched the mirror, it's so unusual it was fairly simple. And it turns out I have a personal connection," Dr Gunning told us exclusively, "I'm wondering if my mother must have made arrangements for it to be sent to us before her illness, or if someone sent it to provide her with a keepsake of the family she lost."

The "loss" she refers to is the tragic story of her estranged cousin, Alan. In 2003, just weeks after purchasing the mirror at auction, Alan and Marie Russell were shot dead by their 10 year son, Tim. Tim was sent to an institution, but upon his release in 2014 he brutally murdered his older sister Kaylie using an elaborate mechanical device. Heartbroken twice over, Eliza died in 2015.

After being found in the hold of the Bay Breeze in June, the mirror was taken by local teacher Ms Beverly Keane to be used as "the perfect prop" for the Crock Pot's own theater group, The Crockett Island Players. Their next production, The Haunting of Hill House, will take place in October in the new Pruitt Community Centre. Proceeds from ticket sales will be put towards the fund to send beloved Monsignor John Pruitt to the Holy Land.
Ms Keane says "I'm delighted that, given its unsavoury, truly awful history, Dr Gunning has decided to leave the mirror with us at the presbytery until the community centre is complete. While she's not a regular figure at church like her dear mother was, she will be contributing to the Monsignor's journey to the Holy Land by helping with our wonderful play. Our very own Dolly Scarborough will be portraying Eleanor, and I just couldn't be more excited to watch her go mad - especially with this mirror as part of the scenery!"

OCCULUS
How does it correspond to my work? The connection is that it is another world, another possible Dimension that is full of mystery and terrifying wander, that it possibly or does lead you to another world. Which is like my idea, another world with uncertainty and expectations, anything can happen, however for the most part no signs of life or threats, which is a good comparison, as this has entities and ghosts within a mirror, where my idea you don't know if there is or there isn't, or is it all in your head that there are things there, which is way more scarier than knowing that something is there.
What is it about - After the death of parents of the two kids Kaylie and Tim Russel. To the point where Kaylie is obsessed to finding what the deal with this antique Mirror, that she assumes has supernatural abilities and have some connection to her parents death and is cursed. With the story focusing on Psychological affects to individuals, family issues, supernatural elements and a whole other world behind this mirror, of creepy and uncertain outcomes.

I remember her From doctor who as Amy Pond, one of the complex characters in doctor who history, not as complex. However complex enough to stand on their own.

KAYLIE RUSSELL ~ AGE: 29 ~ OCCUPATION: POLICE OFFICER
IN A PAST LIFE:
When Kaylie was a little girl, she and her family moved into a new house, and her father purchased an antique mirror to decorate his office, However, unbeknownst to anyone, the mirror possessed terrifying supernatural power, and it began to terrorize the family. Kaylie’s parents were both driven mad, and were ultimately killed, and Kaylie was separated from her younger brother Tim; who was wrongly suspected of killing their parents. Years later, when she and her brother were adults, they reunited and Kaylie became hellbent on destroying the mirror that had torn her family apart. but only once she had documented its power and proved her brother’s innocence. This proved to be a fatal mistake, for the mirror once again took hold of them, and Kaylie was accidentally killed by her own brother. Upon her death, she was transported to the town of Chicanery.
HERE IN CHICANERY:
Kaylie’s new life started very similarly to her old one. Her parents were killed under mysterious and horrifying circumstances when she was a child, and her younger brother was blamed and institutionalized for it. However, Kaylie wanted to get away from everything as she got older and tried to cope with her loss. Once she reached adulthood, she relocated to the small town of Chicanery hoping for a fresh start. At first, she had wanted to become a hairdresser, and while she was good at it, she soon realized that she had developed a crippling fear of mirrors. She never expected to join the police force, but the opportunity crept up on her. She had grown to have a strong sense of justice, and she wanted to protect other people and prevent anyone else from suffering a similar tragedy to the one she had. She’s bold, driven, determined, and courageous, and above all committed to her task.
WHISPERS AROUND TOWN:
Kaylie works alongside the police chief Larry Talbot, and fellow officers Lucy Westenra and Clarice Starling, and has pleasant professional relationships with each of them. She has a burgeoning friendship with Sam Emerson, as he reminds her of her younger brother, and has offered him and his older brother protection should their gang history ever catch up with them. She’s on good terms with Wendy Torrance and Anna D’Antoni, who helped her out when she was initially trying to become a hairdresser. She sees Nancy Thompson for therapy sessions regularly, and has written to Elsa Frances occasionally as a coping mechanism. She has potential acquaintanceships with Kate Lloyd and Brigitte Fitzgerald. She has arrested Garrett “Ghostface” Teller on several occasions.

Review: 2021 US tour
A review of the show in Dayton, with special mention of Jenny, Tugger, Jelly/Gus, Mistoffelees, and Grizabella's numbers; plus nods to Trevor Nunn, John Napier, Gillian Lynne, and Andy Blankenbuehler, and the sound and lighting design.
Text reproduced below the cut in case it vanishes.
The memory indeed lives again.
Andrew Lloyd Webber and T.S. Eliot’s landmark, seven-time Tony Award-winning musical “CATS” is in purr-fect shape at the Schuster Center as the season opener of Dayton Live’s 2021-2022 Premier Health Broadway in Dayton Series.
Yes, this story about a tribe of cats hoping to ascend to the Heavyside Layer for rebirth is still all about the dancing (a great pleasure thanks to Andy Blankenbuehler’s outstanding choreography modeled after Gillian Lynne’s iconic routines) as well as The Big Song. Nonetheless, there are many strong performances in this terrific national tour that keeps the material breezy and engaging under Trevor Nunn’s skillful staging, which provided the benchmark for musical theatre spectacle when “CATS” debuted in London 40 years ago.
In addition to superb junkyard atmospherics bolstered by Natasha Katz’s dazzling lighting design and Mick Potter’s moody, mysterious sound design, here are five particular felines worth your attention.
JENNYANYDOTS: THE OLD GUMBIE CAT
After the enticing opening number (“Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats”), the audience is introduced to a series of cats in consideration for the journey above. The first contender is humorous Jennyanydots (a.k.a. the Old Gumbie Cat), gleefully portrayed by Michelle E. Carter. Tapping up a storm in bright orange fringe (original costumer John Napier’s designs remain first-rate), Carter’s radiance is an early tone-setting highlight.
THE RUM TUM TUGGER
Zach Bravo attacks with flashy flair as the attention-seeking, seductive and strutting Rum Tum Tugger. Conveying his role with a delightful Adam Lambert-esque bravado, Bravo proves he’s a natural showman and there’s no use doing anything about it.
GUS THE THEATRE CAT
In one of the production’s most touching, poignant moments, Gus the Theatre Cat, elderly and coping with palsy, reflects on his glory days on the stage. John Anker Bow, unhurried and meaningful, charmingly captures Gus’ warm sentiments with gentle remembrance and a very magnetic demeanor. Bow also receives lovely support from Kayli Jamison, who introduces Gus’ story as Jellylorum.
MISTER MISTOFFELEES
Decked out in an amazing technicolor jacket, Paul Giarratano displays exceptional balletic finesse as the wonderfully whimsical Mistoffelees, who comes to the aid of Old Deuteronomy (impressive tenor Indalecio De Jesús Valentín). Giarratano glides across the stage with graceful ease and an infectious exuberance befitting his sprightly role.
GRIZABELLA, THE GLAMOUR CAT
As the glamorous-turned-ostracized Grizabella, Tayler Harris has the plum assignment: to sing “Memory” with every fiber of her being. Thankfully, she embraces the giant task without one morsel of melodrama or histrionics. Harris’ remarkably beautiful rendition, firmly planted in the wistfulness of Grizabella’s past and her hope for a redemptive future, leaps forth with passionate power, giving credence to the joy that comes with second chances.

I made a tier list for Pokemon Masters voices for all characters as of the current update.
Definitive voices are those that I just can’t unhear as the voice for the character eclipsing all others. Good voices are those that do just fine but either could have done better, suffer from comparison to better voices in other renditions of the character, or sound too similar to other renditions for it to matter. Bad voices are just...ugh, just what the Hell were they thinking!?
List behind cut (with updates applied):

SONJA JIMENEZ is THIRTY. People say they look like AIMEE CARRERO, but they don’t see it. They were once known as KAYLIE RUSSELL from OCULUS, but now they’re just your average VICTIM. I’d watch out if I were you, I wouldn’t want to get on anyone’s bad side. You never know what might happen…
Since Sonja was a child, she has noticed dark figures lingering and/or racing past her whenever she gazes into reflective surfaces — especially mirrors — for too long.
Although she told her parents about the ominous figures she’d see, they just summed it up to her just having an overactive imagination.
When experiencing severe amounts of stress, the silhouetted figures linger in her peripherals, even if she’s nowhere near any reflective surfaces.
Has a slight phobia of mirrors.
Is a pro at putting on her makeup and doing her hair without a mirror. She’ll only take a peak at how she looks for no more than a few seconds.
Can always be seen wearing the evil eye necklace gifted to her by her  superstitious abuela.
She was very close to her grandmother growing up and thus managed to adopt a lot of the older woman’s superstitious beliefs.
Whenever Sonja’s gone through emotional events that are too much for her to handle, she turns to baking. Her abuela taught her this could be one little way she could bring brightness into her chaotic world.
What are you characters intentions in Deacon Falls?
Since the passing of her abuela a year ago, Sonja’s negative relationship with mirrors have gotten increasingly worse; she even detests looking into reflective surfaces as a whole, and it has gotten in the way of her job at the grocery store. She’s tried meeting with more than one mental health professional about her problem, but none of their attempts with exposure therapy have been successful. Having overheard about an experimental study being done on phobias and how to overcome them at the university, Sonja’s desperation to stop seeing the haunting figures just about everywhere she goes has her seriously considering volunteering herself.

Blog Post # 3
A: Post screenshots of your sketched wireframes:
Tumblr media
B: List the links you’ll use in your portfolio:
I’d like to keep my portfolio very bare-bones with just two to three categories. This allows the person viewing my portfolio to navigate easily without any distractions from my work/personality.
Portfolio: This portfolio is essentially an extension of myself, so it’s important that I put my best work forward. I’ve only got a moment or two to wow potential employers and I want to showcase the type of work that I can confidently reproduce time and time again. It needs to be work that I can see myself doing on a daily basis. Illustrating, logo design, beverage packaging,  and artist branding are some things that I would like to showcase.
About Me: This section will include details about my design interests as well as a little bit about some of my passions. It’s important to me to express that I can offer a unique perspective to music industry clients having been in the industry myself for over 10 years.
Contact me: This is where I will share my socials, as well as contact information, I think this is also a great location to display a downloadable PDF of my resume for viewing.
C: Which project will you showcase on your site?
1. A music related project: This would be one that I’d still have to create, I could redesign an old artist brand, create branding for a fake project, or branding for my own musical project.
2. West Coast Bath Lab Logo: A freelance logo for a bath and body company. This particular logo really suits my style and I would like potential employers to know what to expect from my work.
3. Cara’s Covid Safety Guide: This is an illustration project I worked on for my independant studies class. It’s a kids story that I wrote and illustrated to help kids in understanding the Corona Virus.
4. Care Plus: This is a volunteer-based caregiver program designed to help alleviate the stress associated with caregiver burnout. I designed the logo, brand identity, booklet and soon to be website.
D: Review your proposed showcase projects and determine:
1. I need to writeup rationales for each project, I want to make sure that I include the following:
Brief
Challenges
Goals
Unique Solution
2. I’d really like to work on a passion project branding a musician. I’ve just never had the opportunity to work with one yet but I know that that’s something I’d really love designing and would like to do in the future so I’d like to include that in my portfolio to show that interest.
3. Update my Instagram & dribble with newer work.
4. Revamp my LinkedIn. I’ve always had an account I just never use it.
E: What platform will you use?
I’ve looked into two different platforms.
One is an app that I used to build my old band’s website called Sparkle. I like it because I already know how to use it, It’s a lot like an Adobe program and I like that I can build it from the ground up. Its a bit of a headache to launch on the web but it is possible to do as I’ve done it before through HostGator.
The other program is called Semplice that Joe introduced me to. It seems really good but the problem is you have to buy it to use it (no free trial) I’m a bit afraid that I won’t be able to use it without trying it out first.
I looked into Squarespace but it had me feeling very frustrated.
F: What will your domain name be?
I’m torn between using “scotiadawndesign.ca” or “kaylierusselldesign.ca”
Scotia Dawn Design: Has a nice flow/sound to it, allows me to be a little more incognito.
Kaylie Russell Design: Doesn’t sound as nice to me but It is good self promotion that’s a little more direct.

My Interpretation of the Ending
Another long post no one asked for hurray! This one’s about the ending of Doctor Sleep. Spoilers ahead.
My very first reaction to Dan’s death was well, shock and confusion, because the film deliberately makes you think he is alive for a second. I had very mixed feelings about it and I wasn’t sure I liked it. One thing was for sure, Mike Flanagan was very brave for making a move like that, killing off the main character. Like many others, I was confused about what message it was trying to send out. Why did Dan, a recovering alcoholic who struggled so hard to be better, not get to live? I compared it to Luke from The Haunting of Hill House, a similar recovering addict who did get to have a happy ending.
Then after a couple more rewatches I slowly warmed up to the idea, but now I’m really realizing that I’ve been looking at it the wrong way. So I tried looking at it from Dan’s perspective, in regards to death particularly. The director’s cut gave more insight, foreshadowing, and parallels that were really helpful. Throughout the film Dan’s attitude towards death has always been indifferent; it’s not a big deal to him. Dr. John asks him how he feels about dying people, he replies, “Not at all. The world’s a hospice with fresh air. We’re all dying.” Then when he talks to the hospice patients he reassures them, “We don’t end.” Charlie is afraid that there’s nothing, no hell, no heaven, just nothing. Dan is certain that there is something, and he never sees death as an end to anything. It’s reaffirmed by Abra’s “We go on after, we go on.” She knows Dan is okay.
Then there’s Dick Hallorann telling him, “But you still owe a debt. Pay it.” One of the major themes is how things go full circle, “Ka’s the wheel”, and cirlces also have no end. Something that’s in the directors’ cut but not the theatrical cut is Dick mentioning that Wendy paid her debt, which really stood out to me. What did he mean? What was her debt? It’s not clear but the director’s cut showed more of Danny and Wendy’s relationship, and how they seem to mirror each other in the end. Helping Abra with her powers wasn’t the only way he repaid his debt, but also sacrificing himself to blow up the Overlook Hotel to save them. Another thing left out of the theatrical cut is how Wendy couldn’t bear to look Dan in the face when he was in a rough spot. We know from the theatrical cut that Dan couldn’t look Wendy in the face when she died, death flies and all. The director’s cut mentioning that Wendy had a similar parallel experience to that changes everything for me, because in the end when Dan dies he and Wendy are finally looking each other in the face. That brings so much closure to something they both couldn’t fulfill during their lifetimes, and to me it was the largest factor in making me like this ending. I’m sure there’s more to unpack with Dan/Jack Torrance’s relationship but I’m much more interested in Dan/Wendy’s so I’m not going to get into that here but I loved the red bathroom scene with Dan/Jack too.
It’s not Mike Flanagan’s first time killing off a protagonist (spoilers). This seems to be a recurring theme in a lot of his work. In Oculus he killed off Kaylie Russell, and then the film ended with Tim getting arrested, the ghosts of the rest of his family in the window, and the ending was bleak. Some of the Crain family in The Haunting of Hill House die, but some are spared. However, they’re not the same. In interviews and podcasts Mike Flanagan has talked about how his writing sometimes reflected different stages in his life, and how when he looks back at the ending of his earlier work like Oculus, it was more cynical. Dan’s death is more hopeful than Kaylie’s, and just because he’s dead doesn’t mean Dan’s life and character ceases to be meaningful.
