Haruka clenched his fists. “Y-you would be surprised if you woke up and -- and -- and your cell was full of ice cream!
I was just thinking of this line from your last Mikoto drabble and wondered… Can you make this happen?
I certainly can >:3 I tried for a while to frame this as straight-up comedy, but it actually worked so much better as something sweet, with silly lines here and there :) Thank you so much for the request, it was so fun!! (Also, I wrote John using Mikoto's name for ease, but in my mind he's switching between first person pronouns.)
There was someone unexpected in cell 009.
No, no, it’s not like that. Everyone was very aware that there were two distinct residents of that cell. John himself was very aware of his position in that cell.
The thing was, someone else ended up in there, too.
John kept his eyes shut, feigning sleep. The other person was here on a mission. They’d slipped in without creaking the metal door. Their footsteps were nearly inaudible against the floor. He would have thought it was Kotoko, with skills like that, but she would have leapt to an attack. This person was busy doing… something.
He strained his ears. It was impossible to tell their goal. They were going in and out, moving things around. Was it a trap? There weren’t enough materials in the prison to set a trap. Were they stealing things from around the room? He had nothing of value. Plus, he was sure Mikoto would have given anything to anyone who asked. What, then?
Unable to come to any conclusion, he readied himself. He’d protect himself. He always did.
In one fluid motion, he rolled out of the bed and pinned the other to the ground. The perpetrator let out a high-pitched squeak. Impossibly wide and frightened eyes looked up at him.
“Haruka…?” That was the last person he was expecting. John squinted around the room. “What the --”
Ice cream. He didn’t know what it meant, but that’s what Haruka had been arranging. Dishes and dishes of ice cream. Everywhere. Plates stacked on the desk. Bowls strewn across the floor. All vanilla. There was a scattering of toppings; some with colorful sprinkles and others dripping with chocolate sauce. When he’d tackled the poor boy, he sent another dish of it clattering across the ground.
“I’m sorry! Ah, I-I, ah, I’m sorry!” Haruka squeezed his eyes shut. “It-it’s a, it was a surprise, for you! For M-m-mikoto…!”
“A surprise?”
“The other d-day he said, we were, we were talking ab-bout --”
“He asked for this?”
“Uh, no, but --”
“He didn’t know about it?” John’s eyes narrowed. “It’s some kinda prank?”
“NO! No, n-no I’m not being m-mean. It was f-fun. A fun surprise.” Haruka held his palms up, unable to make his smile anything but panicked. “...Surprise!”
John stared.
Despite how nonsensical the whole situation was, there didn’t seem to be any danger. He rose. Haruka scrambled to his feet.
John gestured to the extensive supply of sweets around them. “How did you get all this together, anyway?”
“O-oh!” Haruka wrung his hands. “I was, uh, planning it for a while. I requested ice cream three times in a row. And I n-never ate mine for dessert. I’ve been saving it. Es asked why, b-but they still let me keep it.”
“And why did you? Why do all this for Mikoto?”
“I t-told you, it was sup-supposed to be fun...”
John braced himself against the desk. He was just wondering how long it would take to take care of this mess. He mused, “it’s all going to melt.”
He might as well have thrown a punch, the way Haruka’s expression shifted. “I’m sorry! I’m -- I… I didn’t think of that…”
“Eh? You don’t need to apologize or anything. It’s fine.”
They fell into silence. Haruka shifted on his feet.
“Y-you… can have it, if you want. The ice cream. I didn’t let anyone else have it but-but, you can, I think. ”
“I don’t want the ice cream.” He wanted to be left alone. He wanted the cell clean so Mikoto didn't stress out about cleaning it. He wanted to avoid being bothered by bizarre ‘surprises’ first thing in the morning.
His stomach disagreed, apparently. It let out a loud grumble. Both prisoners looked over.
He muttered a curse. With a huff, he picked up one of the bowls.
“Alright. But even if I did eat this, or Mikoto did, there’s no way I could finish it all.” He shoved it into Haruka’s hands. “You made this mess, you’re gonna help me deal with it.”
The boy nodded frantically.
“Come on, you can sit here. Pass me that one, with the syrup. And hurry it up.”

Somebody needs to explain why I'm feeling the sudden urge to have Joey be younger then all of them, at like idk 16, and for Shelby to be the ONLY one who knows
Like, so in my timeline(for now), empires took place over about a year(17 months with the prequel I'm doing) so that'd make Shelby like uh, 33? In the witchcraft smp book?? It's a 4 year time skip instead of the canon 10 years
So, Owen 17, false and oli would be like, 16 when WC takes place, Emerald 5, nightlight(yes I changed the dragons name) 4, Thorn 4
Why am I ranting about that? I dont- I don't know- also im just now re a lying how many kids I'm planning on giving to shelby and i- it's like 6 and I am very tempted to give her Joey as the 7th because he was abandoned and Shekby just casually picks uo stray children she finds
She found the twins in the forest, Nightlight on Olis back, Owen she gave consciousness too, Emerald was found in the swamp and she was pregnant with Thorn-
Like the universe, me, looked at this elytrin/witch and went "lol, your gonna have parental powers. Go find you children whoa re stuck in a fucking tree and hiding in a bush lol good like with the 4 that follow soon after lol"
But they all have some type of trauma related to be abandoned, you understand me right!? And so does WC!Joey-- I have to finish watching his pov and wtahc the others(aside from shelbys) btw- motherfucker was thrown out of the only home he'd ever known-
Shelby just sensing that, evaluating it, realizing he's 16, and slapping adoption papers infornt of him like "You're my child now, sigh here please :)" is hilarious to me and I- well fuck now I wanna do it- should i??
Joey going to roast Pris only to realize his mom shelby also uses water and losing all his will to fight her in shame-
And Empires Joey and Katherine chilling, watching the kids like "....Katherine you wife has adopted another child. I can sense it." "Oh that's nice"
.....imma called witchcraft Scott Scotch and witchcraft Joey JJ because.....those are gonna be shelbys nicknames for them-
Shekby also adopts Scotch but more in that odler sister way, unlike JJ who she's like the mom to now

We’ve talked in the past about Julia’s red shirt (in her season 1/season 4 outfit) showing her sympathy towards Carmen. What about other parts of her outfits?
First, to contrast with the red shirt peeking through her dark pantsuit, we have Julia’s ACME suit.
[ID : two cropped screenshots from the 2019 show Carmen Sandiego. The first one shows Julia Argent on the train in India, in her dark suit with red shirt outfit. The second one shows Julia in Rio de Janeiro, in her ACME suit. End ID]
The ACME suits, being uniforms, are all the same (the biggest difference being skirts for the women vs pants for the men), the same way the agents are asked for uniformity, conformity and following orders.
The suits have no color apart from a navy so dark it’s close to black - in fact, depending on the lighting they look almost black and white. Quite like their way of thinking.
[ID : a screenshot from the 2019 show Carmen Sandiego. Agent Zari and Random White Agent stand on either side of a door. They are in the shadows and their uniforms look dark and desaturated. End ID]
As I noted on a previous post, at the same time Julia receives her suit and as such lets go of her red shirt, she is asked to renounce her feelings that Carmen is innocent. Season 2, where she almost exclusively wears the ACME uniform, is the one where Julia briefly doubts Carmen and struggles to reconcile following her superior’s orders with her convictions. Ultimately, when she does not manage it, she resigns (season 3) and as such goes back to her red shirt outfit. It is in that outfit that she teams up with Carmen in a substantial way in season 4.
Other agents (and, notably, agent Zari, the most featured ACME agent apart from Julia and Chase) tend to wear black gloves. In line with their behavior, this suggests keeping a distance with their environment, refusing to feel things too deeply. Julia doesn’t wear gloves, however, not even in Stockholm where the weather would definitely justify it. Despite Chief's insistance, Julia keeps paying attention to her feelings.
Then, Julia’s glasses. Her glasses in seasons 2-3 are ACME regulation eyewear : once again, they’re part of the uniform, so the same model as the other ACME agents. Big, bulky, they’re almost rectangle in shape, all sharp angles : this suggests rigidity and an absence of flexibility in ACME’s mentality. Also note the dark lenses : they symbolically obscure the vision.
[ID : a screenshot from the 2019 show Carmen Sandiego. In Indonesia, Zari and Random White Agent stand against the sky. Their glasses' lenses are noticeably very dark. End ID]
And what about Julia’s original glasses, the ones she wears before joining ACME and those she returns to as she leaves ? They are the exact opposite of the ACME glasses : round and clear, what you need to look at the world as it is.
[ID : a cropped screenshot from the 2019 show Carmen Sandiego. In San Francisco, Julia wears her red shirt outfit with her round glasses. End ID]

Me BSing hcs like: The fact that Kae is not only able to create a shield when he is dangerously low HP but also the fact that he is able to regenerate HP when he hits opponents with Frostgnaw is definitely due to him receiving his Vision when Diluc had tried to kill him in their Confrontation...but could it be possible that his familial ties to the Abyss Order could have influenced that HP drain of his-

got requested to share my xueyi build so!!! here it is :]
(+ EU server crew - shes on my supports rn if u wanna add me to try her out alongside e1 RM and e0s1 blade)
anyway some notes:
a bit of xueyi 101 to start out jic - the atk orb and break rope are the standard for her; her break effect to dmg% conversion A2 trace makes quantum dmg a joke whereas her sources of atk are very limited. build-wise as this freaky puppetcore weirdgirl crit/break hybrid she wants it all rly; both crit, BE and atk, but prioritizing crit until some sort of 1:2 (guides tend to put 60/120 as the baseline) is key.
S5 aeon is perfectly fine and its what i used to have on her, i pulled indelible promise in order to end the custody battle over aeon between her and DHIL lmao (+ new gacha 4* LCs in hsr are like new 4* charas luckily - indelible promise after its initial release patch in 2.0 is now a permanent offrate on all banners except for beginner, phew). the crit on it is especially nice, rly hope i get spooked with some superimpositions in the future.
she shouldnt be on glamoth anymore really - this showcase is with her on spd boots (as you can see. duh) and she does reach the 135 spd for the 1st glamoth buff requirement when with RM (which is every time i play her) so its fine, but as i swap to atk boots when with sparkle im sure you can see why it would be... suboptimal. problem is. well. look at her rope. still havent managed to roll a comparable salsotto one so 💀 we live with this.
her relics are still a bit scuffed (chest and both her atk and spd boots are. fine. but could be better) but since i often have fx and sparkle patching up her crit its fine for now.
also yes i shouldve unlocked those last few quantum dmg and BE traces ages ago but its not rly that impactful when her dmg% is already as high as it is with the amount of BE i have on her so oh well x)
obviously given her dependence on break xueyis far from an universal dps - i only use her in heavily quantum weak fights (or in SU where u can get blessings to spam her ult for the weakness ignoring attack) but when she gets to shine she shreds So hard i love her sm 🥰🥰
+ heres the atk boots build ig. not that much changing as you can see but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

actually jokes aside i appreciate that from octo, side order seems to have removed a bit more 'randommess' that can come from the carry over stuff (8 balls don't fall off this time - if you get bumped off of the map pearl drone will carry you back onto it) because failing a rouglelike to elements like that would fucking suck

In defence of silly matters...
So, I've been on the tumbles too much today and have had to get off of it after a while when it was making my head hurt...
So, I wasn't into the Super Bowl today. I'm not much of a sports person, but I didn't even bother watching it for the commercials. It was all "Meh, none of our teams are playing and I'm not so big into either Usher or Swift." And, of course, it's not like the commercials cannot be seen later online. Instead, I was all "Ooh, Cartoon Network is running reruns of Adventure Time and Futurama!" and I was reading fanfictions that people had put up for a fanfiction challenge in one of my fandoms that I am a part of.
But browsing tumblr.... just outrage-post-after-outrage post over the ongoing Gaza genocide and lots of "why aren't more people outraged at this?" "How dare Americans be distracted by a football game when this is going on?!" and... it's just...
*Sigh.*
News of the latest series of atrocities... definitely enough to cause compassion-fatigue and I do not *want* to stop caring. I want to continue doing what I can (which is not much, mostly complaining to people online and in real life. I wrote my senator, but while he's progressive on most issues, he's identical to the fiercest Republican on this one and has been known to taunt pro-Palestinian protesters. You've probably already guessed who he is, haven't you? Basically a progressive-traitor). My rep's a Republican (despite my personal vote) and isn't gonna do shit. And this is really the boat most of us are in.
And I'm at a place where I simply cannot be aghast and outraged all the time, or it will overload my system. So, yes, I am going to turn away from the news and from people telling me to be aware and outraged at all times to watch a damn cartoon.
And this is why I defend people watching and enjoying the Super Bowl.
Maybe it's trendy to be ANGRY! THAT! AMERICANS! ARE! ALL! ABOUT! SPORTSBALL! when the Horrors are happening, but I think that maybe enjoying the sportsball and the musicians is just a thing that many people need right now. They can't really do anything, so cheer on a team, beer and snacks.
I learned last year, before all of this happened, on a very personal level just how important distraction is just to keep you from losing your mind or laying down and dying: I lost someone very close to me last year to an unexpected, sudden death.
A lot of what kept me going? Trigun: Stampede (a reboot of an anime that was pretty much my entire life in the 2000s. I have a fanblog for it now, fandom renewed), and acquiring The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and playing it every day for about two and one half solid MONTHS after I picked up my pre-order.
I did these things while being heavily involved in memorial / funeral planning, a task I had never done before.
My nephew's memory was a "more important" thing. Gathering his friends for a memorial service / party was a "more important" thing. Getting his last affairs in order was a "more important" thing.
But enjoying a damn anime and a damn video game were also important.
And so I don't condemn people for taking a frigging BREAK. We can always continue holding our leaders' feet to the fire and screaming out into the void about the utter injustice present in our world.... But we've also gotta self-care.
(And yes, I get mad when I'm finding a boss-battle in a video game to be too hard. It doesn't mean I do not care about more serious matters in the world at the same time).

one of my new year resolutions was to make 5 practical crochet things, and i've nearly accomplished that already! two headbands, a scarf, and a hippy bag (just completed last night). i also made that table runner, but it's decorative rather than practical, so it doesn't count here. it feels good to make things.

A (somewhat) Comprehensive List of Where and How I learn about Western Historical Costuming
I have made it no secret that I am deeply interested in history and, particularly, historical costuming. And though I understand it is a very niche topic that not many people are interested in, I do want to provide a list of sources that I find helpful for learning and writing about western historical costuming. From websites and books to youtube videos and extant garments and portraiture, I aim for this to be a guide for everyone, regardless of their preferred method of learning
Websites:
My main source for general overviews on historical costuming is fashionhistory, an excellent source for overall trends of a decade with a mixture of descriptions and visual references which I find incredibly useful
For a much more comedic and entertaining but still informative source, I’d recommend frockflicks as they’re very entertaining, often cover movie and tv show costumes and are generally a good read whilst still being informative and educational, you can really tell they know what they’re talking about
Youtube:
Though not my preferred source when writing about historical costuming, the beginning of my interest in historical costuming was through being recommended certain youtube videos and youtubers. As such, I want to recommend a few youtube channels that are valuable for learning about historical costuming, particularly if you are beginning to, or for simple entertainment value
Karolina Żebrowska is my all-time favourite costume youtuber, her videos are an excellent mix of educational and comedic and it was her content which sparked my interest in historical costuming. I will always recommend her because her videos are just chef’s kiss, incredible
Another very close second for me and someone else who also helped fuel my love for historical costuming is Bernadette Banner, she’s so eloquent and witty that her videos are so easy and enjoyable to watch for me, I highly recommend her
Another of my favourite costume youtubers is priorattire who does videos about the process of dressing in historical costuming as well as some other goodies! I find her videos useful when writing about the process of dressing and undressing and as a visual aid
Some other youtubers who I don’t regularly watch but are valuable nonetheless are Morgan Donner, Sewstine, Lady Rebecca Fashions, V. Birchwood, Samantha Bullat and many, many others I’m sure I’m forgetting
There are also a few channels that are more of a collective, usually in association with a museum or foundation such as English Heritage, CrowsEyeProductions and, of course, American Duchess
Books:
For writing specifically, I tend to reach for books more often than anything else, so here’s a few of my go-to books for writing about historical costuming
The v&a’s 18th Century Fashion in Detail and 19th Century Fashion in Detail are excellent visual references for the more intricate details of fashion, with images from extant garments
The Chronicle of Western Costuming by John Peacock is also an excellent visual reference with small descriptions which are quite useful and, if you’re specifically interested in English costuming, Nancy Bradfield’s Historical Costumes of England from the Eleventh to the Twentieth Century is also a good visual aid. On the topic of English costuming, Ian Mortimer’s ‘The Time Traveler’s Guide…’ series often contains descriptions on historical clothing which can be quite valuable and, if you’re like me and are into the very, very niche time period of 1660-1670 England, Liza Picard’s Restoration is so valuable for everyday life in London in the 1660s but also as a guide to clothing, with her detailed descriptions, it’s easily a go-to when writing about the restoration era
Extant Garments:
I don’t have much here since I only really visit the same two sources, that being The V&A and The Met Museum though The Kyoto Costume Institute is also incredibly useful
Those are all the sources I use regularly, as well as a range of ones that I don’t particularly but have used in the past, I hope this is valuable to at least someone and I fully encourage other people to share their own sources so that we can all learn something new about historical costuming
