one of these days i'm writing some kind of essay about lost media and humanity's need to solve loose ends. people only care about it because its lost. people only know its lost because somebody cared about it. it's such an achingly beautiful concept. it's such a horrifying fate. it's about mortality and the traitor that is memory and about love. its about the human spirit and a new kind of folklore. all forms of media preservation are a race against the deprecation and physical decomposition of their storage medium. i hope there's a heaven for art.

my philosophy for the shop is that every print or piece of merch or whatever i make for it should be something i want to have/use in my house, to decorate my desk, etc, and then i just make extras other ppl can buy if they want.

so far this is making the process of deciding what to make WAY easier and obviously WAY more fun. trying to think "what will ppl actually buy, even if i'm not into it..." always stumps me, but when i just trim down to ideas i like so much that i'd hang them up for myself too, i have a good time and then in the end end up pretty confident other ppl will like it too, so i'm stressing way less. plugging steadily along!

i missed lino carving so i busted out my supplies last night and made some hivemind block prints 🕺 theyre a little janky but i had fun

me making the two b&w ones. i somehow got these ones down just right but when i tried to print in my sketchbook i either overinked or underinked them. perplexing to be sure

me putting down the different color layers! i basically just put masking tape over the letters i didn't want to print, inked the block, then ripped the tape off and printed. once again i forgot to take a pic before i put orange down on the bottom right one so that one's yellow layer is lost to the ether

and just for fun here are the "duds" from the color layer prints. top one is fun but the aberration doesn't look as good as the other two's, and the bottom one is just incomprehensible. i over-inked the block and i KNEW i over-inked it but i just said fuck it and printed anyway LOL

#linocut #printmaking #fanart #? of a lyric video LOL #an alien's i love you #uchuujin no I love you #utsu-p #vocaloid #one of the most heartwrenching songs on earth <3 #also. pajama pattern reveal? i guess??? when my clothes break too much to fix i cut em up to use as fabric #its good for like rags for cleaning or painting but its also a good medium for stuff like this! #some of these i'll hem the edges and use em as like patches #the broken clothes lives on to be used to fix holes in my other clothes... the cycle begins anew #the top two and especially the top right one are kinda fun because like #the fabric was like. gathered? on a fabric level not a stitching level so there were wrinkles that couldnt be ironed out #but because of that when i printed with my schools printing press it kind of like #gave these interesting 'cuts' in the design from where the fabric had folds #neat!
