Mission: 2 - Secure a Wife

~Comparing to Manga~ Chapter 2

The difference between Manga and Anime~ \_(ッ)_\

Now first, we all know that episode 2 has had a opening theme, but since this episode is long, so there's no ending theme in episode 2, but we finally have ending in episode 3, which is a good thing :))

So first, let's talk about the opening song: Source: Internet(some of them, I mostly do by my own.

Mixed Nuts (ミックスナッツ, Mikkusu Nattsu) is the opening song for the first cour of the SPY x FAMILY anime. It is performed by Official Hige Dandism.

Did you know: According to the Wikipedia of SPY × FAMILY: Mixed nuts are a mixture of various nuts such as peanuts, almonds, cashew nuts, and walnuts. However, peanuts are considered a legume and not a nut.

+The genre of the song is J-pop with some jazz and rock as well as pop. Spy x Family shows off a stylish opening sequence and reveals more of its voice cast, which includes actors from Attack on Titan and FMA.😲

Prelude music~

Starting off with a puddle reflects the cresent moon, which resembles of Agent Twilight (the meaning of Twilight was explained in FACTS post 5), and the explosion in the tunnel. Then we saw Twilight driving the car floating in mid-air to dodge the bullets from the enemies.

Did you know: this Cold War-inspired comedy's opening features an art style reminscent of 1950s and '60s pop art(pretty classic to me :)). The opening is set to the song "Mixed Nuts" by the Japanese pop group Hige Dandism, and shows off the dual lives of the Loid and Yor Forger, and how they are perceived by their new daughter, Anya.

First lyrics: "In this world like nuts packed in a bag, Everyone is snuggling up to someone they meet. We are mixed in there and smiling, By pretending we are all nuts like peanuts." -> "Nuts packed in a bag": numerous types of nuts in a bag, where you are surrounded by various people but in a limited place, but you seem to think it vast. ->"snuggle": to move yourself into a warm and comfortable position, especially one in which your body is against another person or covered by something, to surround with love and care, where you can feel the warmth and coziness with someone you truly care, in Anya's case, it will be Yor and Loid. ->"mixed in there smiling, nuts like peanuts": (now this is very special indeed) it's like a metaphor, a deep meaning in this phrase is the lyrics explained that we looks like smiling nuts, more specifically, peanuts. Peanuts represent happiness and connection, as when you open the shell of the peanut, it always come with a pair or three of nuts but never one, even the Anya design is from peanuts, that's why she loves peanuts, or nuts in general.

+We see the three Yor, Anya, and Loid but in funny drawing, which kinda describes a lot about Anya's childish drawing skill :)) From the lyrics to the art resembles the joyful beat of the music and the art of a "6-year-old" if you take a good look at the first half of the song, before the third lyrics. While Anya is running, Loid and Yor are covering the rain with an umbrella for her. It's like a parenting thing, protecting their children from any risks and problems so that they don't have to worry anything about life, other than high scores, respect and hopes to please them (classic Asian parents :0).

+There's a sequence in orange of a little girl looking alike Anya and Chimora plushie that Anya always carries at 0:15. Next, Anya in her uniform goes exploring the world through different places, and she met at a library. We see in the background is Becky, Damian, and Mr. Henderson respectively. And then that sequence again, but in pink.

+After that, Anya in her other casual outfit, passing Franky's tobacco workshop and humming. Then there's a comic book featuring Anya wearing a mask like the Agent in Spy Wars, and the number 007 is Anya's number when she was at the lab, thinking Dad Liar (loid lies a lot huh); the second comic book featuring a song name I guess, and big word Bang, some Japanese name, and (K)NOW_NAME; and the third comic featuring a lady spy holding a gun and the comic book name is SPYWARS. *Actually, now that I notice, the lady is kinda like Nightfall, are these spoilers for the part 2 season 1 \@0@/! And is that man Yuri!?

+Then of course we see the Fullmetal Lady, Handler observing and the pink word WISE shows up. After the rain pours, Anya takes out her umbrella, and walking under a beautiful rainbow.

Second lyrics: "On the template of happiness, behind the surface which is literally picturesque, We can't be as we are, even when we put our hands together sitting around a table." -> What we see at the outside of someone or something, it is beautiful like a piece of art, but we will never what the inside looks like. This is true about the Forgers family, Yor, Loid and Anya have to hide their real identity for the sake of eachother. ->We have to hide our true identity, and with a "fake" apprearance, it's nothing else other than a lie as we can't be who we are, even when we are a "family".

+ Then there are sequences of the family visiting many places: the elephant zoo (mostly Green), the aquarium (Blue, Indigo, some Purple), the rodeo? (Red, Orange, some Yellow), the party (Light Yellow, Light Orange, some Light Blue, White), the train station (Dark Rose, Red, Redish Pink), and iceskate (all types of Blue, some Light Pink).

+Then the three are some sort of running out of the TV, like getting back to reality, and Anya looking left and right somewhere...

+Continue the sequence: the chilling afternoon view (slight Orange, Pink, chilly Yellow, some Purple), on the train (I call this romantic Purple, Violet, Pink), view the airplance on the sky (Light Blue, some White), the cloudy beach (Yellow, Blue, White), the flower park (Yellowish Orange, Red, Orange, some Green).

+The family member's favorite relaxing place/leisure activity: Anya: a peaceful pink room with three windows, and a tree bloom some red flowers in the back, Yor: reading a book in the bath, Loid: lying on the sofa drinking some alcohol. Notice that both Yor and Anya ahve some spots pattern, while Loid doesn't. Why? Hmmm

+Below that: swimming with the family (Purple, some Pink), gather around Christmas (joyful Red, White, Light Yellow, shiny lights), the city at night (Indigo, with White & Yellow stars, and dark buildings).

+Then the three at home enjoy their family party, and that's when Loid turns off the lights, the art style changed into more anime drawing style than childish ones.

-> I also realize the meaning of him turning off the lights. The first half of the song in childish drawings represent their daily life on day time, after turning off the lights represent their life at night time, kinda like their dark secrets.

+Third lyrics: "Home with full of secrets and patches, you know? Even though I chew up the real emotions, they still don't disappear, they are still stuck in my teeth. My life is so insecure and drifting, and I know. Every day is so mediocre, but I'm here and so are you. Just by this truth, my stomach feels heavy." ->"Home with full of secrets and patches": Home is always thought to be a safe place where you can hide your secrets from anyone, even the ones you love is it? It's true for the Forgers family as Yor is an assassin, while Loid is a spy, and Anya, who gains mind-reading ability, was subject 007 in the labratory, and the only one who knows the family's secrets. ->Even when "we" try to let alone our real emotions, and false it with the fake expression, they can't be disappeared. ->Because of that, their lives are drifting in insecurance, everyday is always "normal" and boring, but they will always be together. Lieing too much can make your stomach feels a bit heavy, right?

+Here comes the grand and mysterious agent who comes out of the dark, Twilight! And the skillful and beautiful, (sexy) assassin who has a cold face during battles, Thorn Princess!

+Twilight and Yor's action moves are so cool(click link)😩💖 Those 2 have to lie about their secret idenity for their "daughter" by a fake smile, but deep inside is true emotions. Both of their information about their personal background are secret, top secret, ultra top secret, eyes only, and then Handler appears. I wonder what's the meaning of her having one eye reflects a TV?

-> Now I notice: Spoilers already appears in the opening if you take a closer look.

+One thing is certain, they put Anya in a frame with pearls and sparkles, which means they value Anya very much, because she is the key to success in Operation Strix. If Loid had had another child, Operation Strix would be a bit challenging for him, because the kid wouldn't have known about it, and since he/she is still a kid, they would be stubborn and disobey their parents. The worst case, there might also be a divorce!

+ I love Yor's outfits, so stylish and colorful: Watch from this moment

+Then Loid appears looking at the window remembering his past as a spy through harsh training, though I can't see clear the images in his flashbacks.

The end the opening~

Franky Franklin the "ugly" wife :))) (sorry Franks)

"Yeah, i know what you think, the make-up is so cursed lol", even Anya doesn't want "this mama". There was actually a small inner dialogue of Loid in the manga: Though I've met woman who look worse (Is it Karen from ep 1? Also, I hate Karen)

Franky was also angry at Loid of why not giving him the disguise like a face mask or something else, but instead giving him some make-up. In the anime, Franky spoke whispering and he was holding a mirror, while in the manga, he angrily yelled at him. I was like, what if Anya noticed, but well, she already knew that so that didn't bother or surprise her much, but I guess Loid would be a bit panic.

One little different detail is that in the anime, Loid said: Although Anya has passed the written exam in order for me to sneak into the pretigious Eden Academy... I never thought the presence of both parents would be required for the interview... , but in the manga: We managed to pass the entrance exam needed to work our way into Ostania's elite Eden Academy... but we failed to anticipate that both parents would be required to attend the mandatory follow-up interview. That kinda feels different in the manga, as Loid has never mentioned anything to Anya about Operation Strix, so she would never know about it (except reading his mind would do the trick), and in the anime, he mentioned that thanks for Anya's having passed the written exam, he managed to sneak in the Academy. Well, the differences are the manga didn't mention Anya's help, but only written "we", and I don't know if the meaning of "written exam" is similiar to that of "entrance exam".

Personally, entrance exam has various ways to test students to see if they really has a good standards to enter; it could also be a mutiple choice exam, written exam, speaking test or team-building test to see if all of them manage to pass,... or something like that

There weren't much changes of the anime comparing to the manga, so yeah, that's all I could find.

Yor and her colleagues

I know how sassy these little bitches I mean, ladies are, but I just feel so bad for Yor for how naive and single-minded she is. How worrying (no wonder Yuri cares so much about her).

A little difference: Camilla said that her department was robbed, while in the manga, it said that her office was robbed. I dunno if they are the same meaning...

And I guess a booger = snot :/

I feel like Camilla and Millie are mocking Yor, well, Millie's dialogue is a bit different from the manga. She said: She's so out of this world, no guys would ever approach her!, while in the manga: Come back to Earth now and then, Yor, and maybe you could actually meet a man.

In the manga, they wrote: Bachelorette, so for people don't know what that is, it means a young woman who has never married. And the case of that 30-year-old lady being single got arrested is so weird and there's no justice and no proof at all.

When Camilla invited Yor to her party, she reminded: And make sure to bring someone, but in the anime, it was more specific: With your partner, of course.

In the mocking Yor dialogue, they said in the manga: Maybe she could bring the pervert who broke into our office, the anime didn't mention that, but say in general instead: Maybe the buglar would be lured in her. I think they don't want to specific about the "pervert" to make the anime seems less "offensive"?

Though this is not the important part, I think the anime removed the phone dialling pic since it was not very necessary.

The order of the dialogue in the anime changed a bit compared to the manga: Yuri called Yor first, then she realized it was her brother, but the manga is the opposite.

The manga actually specifics Yor's job at the cityhall, but the anime didn't.

One more detail about the frame: in the manga, it was only taken the portrait, which is only the top half of Yor and Yuri, Yor still kept her normal hair, and Yuri's face seemed a bit... old? and he wore informal clothes; yet in the anime, it was taken full body, Yor wore an ivory suit, and Yuri wore a black suit. I suppose, this photo was taken when Yuri got the job or he got a good promotion, and Yor was with him at the ceremony.

When Yuri was worrying about his sis, in the anime, the background was still in her room and the window showed the building outside as well as Yor herself, while in the manga, it showed the dark sky with stars.

In the manga, while Yor was struggling about Yuri introduced his sis about a guy, Yor was still sweating a bit, but the anime removed that.

When Yuri said about Mr. Dominic, he said in the manga: Then I'll get Dominic to give me a full report on this boyfriend of yours, in the anime: I'll just ask Mr. Dominic later about what kind of guy he is, then. I think that's like Yuri order him to do so in the manga, like a demand :/

I feel like Yuri was "commanding" Yor, so she was pretty intense and pressured to find a good boyfriend for Yuri's approval. I guess it's true for someone like her, not only hiding her secret identity but also finding a good guy as long as he is approved.

1. What part of the writing process is the most enjoyable?

Ooh, I love the initial brainstorm. I love the moment where an idea clicks and suddenly I’m racing to type fast enough to get all of the ideas out - I live for that. Such a good feeling!! And then of course comes the fighting with the words to get it to actually feel the way it feels in your head, but that initial moment where the idea sparks is just chefs kiss

11. Who is your favorite character(s) to write about and why?

sfsdhfkshfks,,,,you make me choose between the boys,,,,,here,,,on my own sns tumblr,,,,,,honestly, it’s probably Sasuke, because I love writing the way his thoughts betray him almost constantly. He’s so filled with love and emotion and he’s so angry about it. It’s such a fun dichotomy to explore. That said I’ve also become a bit obsessed with trying to capture Naruto’s deep-rooted denial and the way he suppresses his negative emotions so, so well. I think it’s really tough to do but I do love a good challenge. Both of these things are very much in Two is a Crowd so they’re totally on my mind haha! Okay if I have to choose, Sasuke is probably the most fun to write about because so much of him is under the surface, and writing his POV means you get to explore all of that. (but,,,,Naruto has a lot of that too, just in different, more hidden ways that are harder to portray I think)

Word game!

I was tagged by @sio-writes with the words string, color, bath, and fright! This is such a cool idea, I love this!! Thank you so much!

Okay this is super long, so I’ll put it under a read more. But if you want some excerpts, here you go!

STRING - I wrote this one recently in The Forest! Some spoilers in there for you :> This one features Braith (a human traveller who stumbled into the very magical forest not really knowing what he was doing) and Fern (one of the wood elves that lives there. He’s very protective) - but we’re almost 100k words in at this point ;)

“You can ask,” Fern said softly, and it was a permission that Braith…hadn’t expected. Hadn’t expected so easily. He’d at least expected something tight, strained, hurting in Fern’s voice, but…

Braith looked down.

“I—” he said, twisting the frayed bits of his sleeves together. “You mentioned your mother, once, but I thought that—she’s not—”

“She’s alive,” Fern said. “She…my parents are…in the heart. Of the forest.”

“Oh,” Braith said, letting the relief and surprise mix in his breath. “You don’t…”

“They are not in a condition to be…visited. Often.”

Braith felt his eyes widen, and he quickly looked away. Not quick enough, though, with the way Fern sighed.

“They are alright. They…here.”

He breathed out, and Braith stared at him as he sat up.

“Hold out your palm,” he said, taking something from his neck. There was a string, nestled amongst the leaves—tucked underneath them, or maybe they’d grown overtop—

He pulled the string free, and a small leaf fell into his hands.

Braith’s uneasiness grew.

“I—” he said, staring. “I don’t—”

“You feel it,” Fern said, and Braith didn’t need to nod. He knew it was written all over his face.

“I don’t—” he said, flinching as Fern let the weight grow heavier—he still held the string, but Braith held the leaf, and he felt—he felt— “What am I—”

“In times of great pain,” Fern said softly, “some of us need…time. Some of us need to heal. Away from the world, that keeps going without us.”

Braith stared at him.

“My parents are in this form,” Fern said softly. “This is a leaf of their tree.”

He twisted the string back around his fingers, and Braith stared as it lifted back into his hands. He resisted the urge to catch it, to flinch towards it—

“You understand, now?” Fern asked, and Braith’s nod felt quick and hurting. Nowhere near Fern’s hurt, obviously, but he—but Fern—

“They did,” Braith said, “they needed that, but you—”

“I was needed elsewhere,” Fern said, looking away. “I know nothing of the form. I don’t know that I could do it if I tried.”

Braith opened his mouth, but no sound came out. He stared at Fern for several seconds longer than he should have before he finally tore his eyes away.

“Will they…recover?”

Fern breathed out.

“I’m told so. I don’t know any better,” Fern said, looking out into the brambles, the trees… “It may be foolish to hope.”

Braith let out a breath.

“Well, I…I wouldn’t say that,” he said. “But I guess I’m not the best person to talk to about that sort of…stuff.”

Fern looked back at him.

Braith shrugged, looking back down at his shoes.

“My mom didn’t just leave,” he said. “She left without her magic. The main way she survived. It’s not—there’s really no way that she—”

Braith shook his head and looked away. It was like he couldn’t even talk without crying.

“I hope anyway,” he said, persisting. Clearing his stupid, stubborn throat. “I have to. At least I could find out what happened to her.”

COLOUR - This scene is from The Forest as well - featuring Fae (a fairy, and witch in training) and Lola (a human carpenter). They’re working on sending a letter to Lola’s home town, Woodhaven.

She twirled back around, taking the cloth with her, and Lola watched the way her dress fluttered with her. It was blue and purple today—that sort of layered, translucent colour that changed with the way she moved. It was like Fae had something different and beautiful every time she saw her…

“Do you mostly wear dresses?” she asked, and Fae turned back to her. “I’m not sure I’ve seen you with anything else.”

“Yes,” she laughed, tucking the cloth away. “Yes, I like having my legs free. Nothing to catch to my ankles, you know. The sleeves can catch in the branches, but I love the way they feel in the wind.”

Lola ducked her head.

“I remember,” she said, and Fae’s gaze grew warmer. “Do you have many of them?

“Many? Mm,” she tilted her head, “I suppose. Too many for storage. Not enough for my messes.” She laughed. “I keep them tucked away and shrunken, if that’s what you were wondering about. I have to share the space around me, and not all of my walls will leave fabric healthy and happy.”

She gave Lola a teasing glance, and Lola smiled.

“Not really a traditional closet,” Lola said. “Or, well—I suppose it’s only traditional for me, but—”

“No, yes, I know the one you mean,” Fae assured her. “I do miss the ease of a closet, I will say, although I never had one for long. In Woodhaven, though, maybe,” she said, frowning thoughtfully, “I did. I’m fairly sure. Speaking of!”

She straightened up and hopped across the room, grabbing—oh, a piece of paper—

“Oh!” Lola said, standing to move to her side. “oh, yes, we’ll—I can write.”

“Well, we’ll have to go back to your cabin to grab the redcurls anyway, but for now—let me spell it and test the weight.” She scribbled a bit of ink on the page, and folded it one…and then again, and once more. Each fold was different and angled, and Lola peered over her shoulder before—

Oh.

A butterfly.

It sat on Fae’s finger and gave its wings a few slow, calm flaps.

“There. They need to have wings, of course,” she said, and Lola laughed. “Now, if I tie something here…”

The butterfly dipped and fell before it righted itself again. Fae followed it with her hands outstretched, ready to catch it—

“It seems to be holding,” Lola said, and Fae’s eyes didn’t waver as she nodded.

BATH - Immediately thought of this scene - from Enter Naruto! Sasuke’s had a pretty bad day. This is a modern AU fic!

Sasuke wandered over to the bedroom door, but Naruto grabbed him before he got there.

"Nope," he said. "We're taking a bath."

"A bath?"

"Mhm," Naruto said. "Go to the bathroom. I'm gonna get my laptop."

Sasuke didn't question it. In spite of being wide awake, he felt completely exhausted. He could barely keep up a conversation; every word felt as if he was tearing the energy out of himself, and he had yet to recover any of it.

He sat down on the bathroom floor, waiting for Naruto.

"Sasuke." He heard a whisper—he opened his eyes, not realizing he had closed them.

Naruto was back, taking the mug of wine from his hand and putting it on the counter. He could see the blonde was tired, but the worry in his eyes hadn't wavered all night.

He knew Naruto was scared that he was upset, or angry, or that he blamed Naruto for his father leaving, but…right now, he didn't feel much of anything. He was just...hollow. Weak. Numb.

Naruto bent over the tub, feeling the water with one hand, before straightening and pulling his shirt over his head. Sasuke raised an eyebrow at the blonde as he slipped off his pants.

"I mean—you can wear clothes if you want..." Naruto gave him a sheepish grin. Sasuke let out a puff of air through his nose before dutifully undressing.

"Mkay, here." Naruto laid down in the bath, and held his arms out.

The water was hot—very, very close to being unbearable. Sasuke slowly lowered himself into the tub, not quite able to relax into it. He shifted, not really knowing where to sit.

"Sasuke," Naruto said softly, wrapping an arm around him and easing him back until he was resting against Naruto's chest. He shifted his legs, squeezing Sasuke when he tried to give Naruto a bit more room—

"Don't worry about it," he said, pulling Sasuke closer. "You just relax, okay? I'll tell you if you need to move."

It was easier said than done, but the water was warm and Naruto's skin felt even softer than usual…Sasuke sank until his mouth was below water, stopping only to keep his nose above it. He heard a noise and opened his eyes to see Naruto pulling on a little table, bringing it closer so he could use the laptop.

The wine sloshed threateningly beside the computer. Sasuke tilted his head so his mouth was out of the water.

"Usuratonkachi, be careful," he muttered.

"Mm," Naruto said, pulling away with a laugh, "you mind sitting up for a sec? You're holding my nuts hostage."

He laughed harder as Sasuke sprung up, face red.

"It didn't hurt, don't worry." He reached behind himself and pulled a towel off the rack, leaving it on the floor in front of the table, before he reached forward and pulled Sasuke against himself again.

"C'mon," he said, "what do you want to watch?"

Sasuke let out a puff of air through his nose, letting his mouth sink underwater again without replying. Naruto only smiled and kissed the top of his head.

"Okay, let's see…"

The water really had reached a nice temperature, now. It was almost like a warm blanket all around him—and the feeling of Naruto was only helping. He closed his eyes—just for a little while, to ease the sting…

FRIGHT - This was the hardest one! I had to cheat a little. Does frightened count? ><’ I went all the way into one of my ficlet series - the only time I’ve ever written Boruto in a story before! This was such a challenge to do!

"I don't succeed, then," he says, and they look up. "I don't kill Itachi."

"No," says Boruto, "no, you do."

Sasuke's brow furrows.

"But I am still alive," he says, and it takes Naruto a moment to breathe in. His head snaps up and Sasuke meets the frightened, wide-eyed gaze with nothing. So? Was he really, honestly surprised? Sasuke had never made any attempt to hide himself. Unlike some.

"You—yeah, you are, but um—it's a mistake. Killing Itachi, I mean," Boruto tells him, and Sasuke glares at him. "That's why I'm here. That's why I'm—listen, after you kill Itachi, he tells you the truth, but by then it's too late, so—"

"What," Sasuke growls, "truth?"

The man breathes in.

"Itachi was acting under orders."

Sasuke's mind spirals. Boruto spins a tale of betrayal and deceit and lies and secrecy, and Sasuke hears it and soaks it in. Swallows it. Feels it swirl in his stomach like a poisoned drink, tumbling and twisting and making him sick. Making him sick.

"I'm gonna be sick," Naruto whispers.

Sasuke hardens into stone.

"Fine," he says, nothing. Nothing, nothing, nothing. "Is that all?"

The man looks surprised. Sasuke gives him nothing.

"Ye—I mean, I—"

"And you're Naruto's son," Sasuke says, nothing. Another betrayal. Look at him.

He never gives up on you. Sasuke wants to laugh.

"Does he make Hokage?" Sasuke asks, and Boruto gives him a startled look, and a startled nod. He looks over at Naruto as if asking for explanation, but Sasuke's head is relentless, relentless and hot and spinning, he steps forwards and speaks—

"Who is your mother?"

Boruto's mouth closes. Is he afraid? Is he afraid of the look in Sasuke's eyes? Knowing Naruto has his happily little separate life like Sasuke always knew he would—oh, but of course, he never gave up on him. That's what this would be called, right? He turns his gaze onto Naruto and dares him to speak—

"I—" Naruto starts, and Sasuke looks at him.

Sasuke looks at him. Sasuke looks at him and tells him everything, spits it out of his eyes, he knew it. He knew it. He knows this world better than anyone else ever will, the bitterness burns a hole through his tongue and sets his head alight, and oh. Oh! Naruto had tasted oh, so sweet, hadn't he? Hadn't he? One thing to keep Sasuke here. One thing worth being weak for.

Sasuke. Wants to. Laugh.

"They're divorced," Boruto says, and Sasuke's rage stumbles. Naruto's head jerks between them, his breath heavy and panicked— "They're...oh."

He breathes out a laugh.

"They're divorced, Uncle Sasuke," he says, with a laugh that says he may have just realized something. "And you stay at dad's house every night."

Sasuke goes dark.

Boruto shakes his head.

"I knew something was—mom knows. Fuck, mom knows, that's why she—oh I am gonna—" His head jerks up. "Is that why you two were here? Now?"

The lies are gone from his tongue and the burning is back in his eyes. Sasuke swallows and looks down, unblinking, unwilling to give in, not yet—not yet, he—

But there is no rage to protect him anymore, and so Sasuke is forced to feel everything else.

The floor is already wet, at least.

"You were—you got married too, by the way, don't blame dad, you're both—" Boruto laughs again, and Sasuke is so bewildered he forgets he is crying. "I can't believe you both—oh, I am gonna kill my—"

"Sasuke is married?" Naruto asks, and Sasuke stares at him. It's a voice that's almost a whisper, and a familiar, familiar, familiar pain on that face.

Naruto doesn't look at Sasuke.

"Divorced," Boruto corrects, and the relief is palpable. Naruto breathes in with a nod and looks over at Sasuke with eyes that are too nervous to hold—

Too open. Too obvious. Sasuke knows what aching, searing betrayal looks like on Naruto's face, and that had been it.

Sasuke suddenly feels like he might collapse.

I feel like I haven’t talked about things going on here in awhile so!! hi hello I hope you’re all well, here’s a quick run down of some things going on

1. Me and Kinomi are in the middle of our Patreon anniversary event! There’s still a few days to join either of our Patreon’s if you want to be a part of that :>

2. Starting this month I changed the $10 tier on Patreon to get a 4x6 print every month, woo! (so if you are interested in that Sasuke preview, you have until the end of the month to get your hands on it)

3. I am very, very slowly working on opening up a shop this year! My goal is to open up sometime in July :> It won’t be much at first, but I hope to add fun stuff over time. So far I’ve been doing a lot of print tests.

4. I am going to be in A LOT of zines this year! Right now the count is at 4 O: I don’t have plans to be in any others, but I also didn’t plan to be invited to a couple zines this year so... I guess we’ll see. I’m a guest artist for the Iidaten zine, and I’ll be participating in 3 others I can’t talk about just yet! (1 as a guest, 2 as a contributor!)

So things are real busy over here, and I am very tired, but it’s all good stuff and I’m real excited about it!

Hey friends!! I’m a little late on June’s monthly summary this time around, but it was a super busy month, so I hope you’ll bear with me :>

A little late, but better than never! I spent most of my month writing Kindred, our Anniversaryx3 Event fic! If you didn’t see it yesterday, I posted up the first scene on here, so you can check it out for free if you’d like :) It was a ton of work, but it was a really fun event to do, and I'd love to do something like it again! It was so fun to get ideas (especially live on stream!! loved that) and I really loved being able to work with Ninjaduelist (but you all know that already, haha). The whole event ended up lasting through May to June, with an outline that went pretty much like this: character design survey --> Ninjaduelist stream --> finalized character designs --> plot survey --> writing streams 1 & 2 --> final story. I definitely learned a lot about the time I need to incorporate a lot of ideas into a plot that makes sense, haha! But it was delightful, and I’m so happy I ended up being able to do it. 36k words in a month and a half is pretty big for me!

We also got a little further in The Forest, meeting another new character (finally!). Over in The Daydreams, we put up some pretty introspective prompts, we talked about alternate universes over in The Ideas, put up a whole bunch of my Kindred brainstorming and deleted bits in The Sketches, and talked all about unreliable narrators in The Drafting Table. It was our third year anniversary, so I tried to go all out in as many areas as I could. And since it’s been that, I’m feeling all sentimental and nostalgic, so I want to give a little thank you here, too. I already rambled at my patrons already, but to those who have my notifications on, or always like my posts, or comment all the time or just quietly read my stories and enjoy them on your own - thank you. I’m writing more than ever, and all it’s making me want to do is write even more. I want to be able to do it forever, and even though there might come a time where it’s not sustainable anymore - I’m grateful to have come this far. I’ll keep trying as hard as I can.

TL;DR - lots of love from me. I love telling stories :) See you around for the next ones!

6. Describe what you do and your feelings after posting a chapter. (For example: When do you usually post a fic/chapter update? How do you celebrate a posting? Are you the type to refresh constantly?, etc.)

Hahaha oh man, okay, for the first like few hours I suddenly become convinced that this is it, this is the fic that everyone is going to hate, I’ve suddenly lost all of my writing capability and I just didn’t know it yet, it’s secretly terrible. And then I chill out because I’m just nervous about putting my work out into the world, same as always. I do tend to celebrate by just taking it easy in some way, I find I get so preoccupied with what I’ve posted that I can’t really focus on writing something else, so I try to post after I’ve written whatever else I needed to :> I do refresh my emails a lot, but that’s just a habit of mine TT_TT

8. Talk about any friends/connections you've made as a fic writer.

Aw, man, so many! Internet friendships are weird, there are a whole bunch of people I think of very fondly, but they’ve moved on from the social medias I knew them from. I don’t mind, but I do hope they’re doing well and think of them from time to time. Life is busy and hectic, but I’ve often described myself as an NPC with no relationship drain over time - if you’ve got me to a certain level, I sit there :P I have a lot of really lovely friends that I have ongoing conversations with - where we reply like every few weeks or even months. Y’all know who you are <3 It’s lovely. It’s like waiting for letters every now and then :> Probably the biggest/most obvious example of a friend I’ve met through SNS is my fellow void buddy. Looking at you Megan :D Forever thrilled that I randomly messaged you that one day!!! But honestly, I could list so many names. If you’re thinking “I dunno, is Kinomi talking about me…?”, yes, yes I am.

12. What is your favorite theme/subject matter/trope/ship to write about? Why?

Hahaha well it’s SNS! Still, after all these years, although my OCs in the forest have really come to steal my heart. I’m really fond of writing in canon nowadays, because I love that complexity. I love that the pining has been ongoing for years, and that they’ve gone through all of this character development to get to a place where they really understand each other. It’s got all the emotional impact of a long novel without having to write the rest of the novel, haha! But I do love writing the rest of the novel, too ;D

In general, though, I just love to write about love. I think a lot of my writing comes from emotion, and love has so much power in there - it’s so fun to play with that. Falling in love and confessions, especially the mutual pining bits - ah, that’s the good stuff. As far as other tropes go, I love me a coffee shop au and I’ve written “there’s only one bed” into so many stories, I cannot possibly not list it here. I love writing stuff that makes people smile. Of course, I love the angsty bits too, but only because it’s so much better when they’re healed :>
