Ok ok trying to get my thoughts in order. Even still, this is going to be all over the place.

Tup coming up with the idea of using the Umbara sarlacc monster to trap Krell was so damn clever.

The moment Dogma broke and realised he’d been betrayed just absolutely broke my heart. He thought he was doing the right thing the entire time. He was trying to do the right thing. He was trying to be good. Omg good soldiers follow orders nooooo now is not the time for that thought. 

Do we know what happens to Dogma? Please tell me we find out what happens to him.

Jesse’s shoulders are so broad. That shot of him from the back in his upper blacks in the brig was just, omg, sir why are you so broad?

WHY THE FUCK DID THEY PUT A MEDIC IN A FIRING SQUAD?! WHAT WAS KIX DOING THERE?! WHY?! WHAT KIND OF MESSED UP NONSENSE IS THIS?!

Also, they put Tup in the firing squad as well?! It seems like Tup and Dogma are close so I’m assuming their close or best friends or maybe batch mates but WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!

I got the distinct impression that Jesse was much less impressed with what was happening than Fives, who seemed like he’d accepted his fate, until…

THAT ABSOLUTELY BADASS SPEECH! FIVES! You have all of my heart. All of it.

I kept mentally screaming “Where is Cody?!” during the scene where the 501st and 212th attacked each other until I realised that Waxer was in charge so of course Cody and Obi Wan aren’t there.

The whole scene where the clones attacked each other was just utterly heartbreaking. Emotionally destroyed. I was clutching my face and shaking and making pained noises and tearing up for pretty much all of this episode but that scene. Ugh. Omg. I do not have the words. I am completely devastated. The way Rex fell to his knees. The looks on all the clones faces. How the 212th clone Rex was holding fell to the ground. *sobs*

Waxer had a sticker of Numa on his bucket *WAILS*

And the tear right before he dies?! *SOBS*

I know it’s an “animated kids tv show” but it really made no sense that there were all these injured and dying clones and there’s no blood. Especially when Waxer was coughing and wheezing. That’s the point you’d expect him to be coughing up blood but there’s nothing. Also, Rex’s face when he asked Waxer who gave the order them to attack. It was so gentle and caring and sad.

Speaking of sad, the end where they’re all question what this is all for. They’re so right. So much pointless death and killing. 

Rex when he went down to execute Krell. Omg, you poor, poor man. So many emotions. He was struggling with so much. I know this is his line of “On your knees” comes from, and twice. And it was definitely a badass moment and I’m sure in time with further watching it’ll become one of those moments where if Rex said that to me in that voice I’d impale my knees through the floor immediately but at the moment I can’t separate it from the situation and what was happening. He was shaking.

I’m going to have to watch through these episodes again and do more of a live-blog style reaction to everything as I watch it, similar to 1x5 ‘Rookies’, 2x10 ‘The Deserter’, and the recent Wolffe episode, because I know I’m missing so much. But I also wanted to get this immediate first emotional reaction out first becomes omg ALL THE EMOTIONS

Of course the evil baddie starts monologuing. You could see his eyes turn yellow.

Ah, so this is the episode where the badass shot of Rex putting on his bucket while marching with a bunch of the 501st comes from. 

How did Fives, an ARC Trooper, not notice Dogma, who was in binders, had taken his blaster? And why did they take Dogma out of the brig in the first place? I may be reading into this way too much but I think mayhaps Fives (and Rex?) knew what they were doing? Maybe? Even I’m not sure reading that back. But Fives doesn’t dual wield like Rex, we’ve seen him very clearly use a DC-15 blaster rifle many times in battle. Though Wookieepedia says Fives “began using twin DC-17s like his friend Rex, though he continued [to] use the DC-15A from time to time.” and cited episode 4x8 ‘The General’ as the source for that quote. I think I’m just overthinking this now. Also, sobbing at that quote from Wookieepedia where Rex is referred to as his friend rather than Captain.

Waxer had tally marks on his armour too. Has Rex started a trend?

Who was the clone who reported to Rex at the end of the episode that Umbara had been taken? Was that Appo? He seemed very “generic standard clone”, with no different paint or tattoos or hair.

I’ve noticed that unless they’re specific characters, the rest of the clones (background clones? extras?) seem to be all the same. Which makes sense from an animation perspective, you’d just copy and paste (heh) the same model and save time by not having to customise every single one. Though I wish we could see some of that individuality in all of them, rather than just the main and supporting ones.

A lot of the lighting, especially of the clones' faces, is very stark, almost horror movie-esque. Like when you put a torch under your chin and tell spooky stories. 

Ok I’ve sort of run out of steam and fallen in an emotional heap now so I think that’s it for this and I’ll have to come back to everything in the re-watch. 

I’m going to go and curl up in a ball in the corner and cry or something now. Or I’m just going to watch it all over again.

Luke gave Leia a puzzled look. “We just discovered a way to send a message to the past and you want to say that?”

Leia crossed her arms. “Yes. You said the message had to be five words or less.”

“I was thinking more like ‘Palpatine is a Sith Lord’.” Luke said.

Leia rolled her eyes. “Then they’ll go to apprehend him, the Emperor will beat them, and he’ll execute Order 66. You’d simply be hurrying up history. No, we have to prevent the Order 66.”

“But the Jedi knew about the chips. They didn’t investigate them all that further because they thought the clones went crazy without them.” Luke countered.

Leia gave him a condescending look. “I think the Jedi are bright enough not to buy the aggression inhibitor excuse when they get a warning from the past about it. I’m certain everything else they need to know will come to light as they investigate the chips.”

Luke frowned. “Are you sure they’ll figure it out? We don’t have enough words to tell them about Order 66 or mind control.”

Leia sighed. “I have to trust in the Force that they will.”

Luke nodded. “One minor edit: Clones level five brain scan. So when do we send it?”

Leia’s face darkened. “Before Umbara.’

It was very hard to ignore a five-word message when the same two Force projections appeared to every Jedi Master, Padawan, and Youngling. After the first dozen, Coruscant Guards all had tumors in the exact same spot it became apparent this wasn’t a design flaw. Especially upon closer inspection of the tumors and the reports of a lack of memory problems after removal.

After that chips were removed so fast executing Order 66 would have been pointless and the splicers were working so quickly Palpatine realized he couldn’t cover his tracks fast enough. The Chancellor fled Coruscant mere hours before all his crimes were discovered.

The war wasn’t over, but things were better.

Meanwhile, Torrent’s newest shinies were awaiting de-chipping. Dogma had come in and out of surgery just fine, but Tup...well, one of the Jedi had a Bad Feeling and a scan revealed why.

Tup’s chip was rotted and surgery was going to be a lot rougher on him. Thus why he was lying on a gurney looking absolutely terrified. Dogma held his hand and ran a thumb over his brother’s white knuckles.

“Can you just sit with me until it’s over?” Tup asked.

Dogma shared a look with the medics, who nodded.

“Just stay there and let us do our job,” Kix said, “and you can stay.” The medic placed a mask over Tup’s face. “Big breaths, vod’ika, big breaths.”

Tup did as he was told and Dogma watched the fear slip off his face as he slipped into a deep slumber. The surgery was over quickly, but recovery was going to be anything but.

Tup moaned in his sleep and Kix checked his pain meds and winced. “Sorry, Tup, but I can’t give you any more.”

“My head’s killing me though…” Tup moaned as he rolled onto his belly and buried his face in his pillow.

Kix chuckled. “Well, you wake up quick. Do you think you can stomach some water?”

“Nooooo.” Tup wriggled deeper into the covers.

Dogma frowned and crossed his arms. “Tup, listen to the medics. In medical situations, he outranks even the General.”

Tup raised his head to glare at his brother. “My head is killing me and you spout regulations at me? You are cruel brother.”

Dogma rolled his eyes. He tried to avoid eye contact as Tup stared at him imploringly.

Finally, he broke. “Fine, scooch over.”

Tup let Dogma slide in before flopping face-first into his pillow and on top of Dogma. His breathing quickly deepened as he dropped off to sleep. Kix shook his head.

“Guess you’re stuck until Tup feels better, Dogma.”

“But my reports! Can’t I-”

Kix wagged a finger. “No way, the light might wake my patient.”

Dogma watched him go in horror. “But Tup sleeps like a rock and my reports…” But Kix was already gone and Dogma felt his eyes growing heavy. Just going to rest his eyes…

And that was how Rex got one of his favorite holopicks.

The Motels: S/T (Side 1)

The first incarnation of The Motels (yes, there were two) formed in Berkeley, California in 1971. It lasted a few years and even had a record contract offered, but the band rejected it and disbanded. Then in 1978, Martha Davis and lead guitarist Jeff Jourard (formerly of a pre-fame version of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) decided to reform The Motels. Extensive auditions resulted in a new line-up of the band being formed, consisting of Jourard's brother Marty, who played both the saxophone and keyboards, Michael Goodroe on bass, and Brian Glascock on drums. This history would seem to be a recurring theme for the group. As is often the case of a professional working band, line up changes are common. The band reached most of its success in the early To middle 80s, as they came into the spotlight thanks to MTV with both “Only The Lonely” and “Suddenly Last Summer” in heavy rotation. This album is the band’s first. It does show a bit of maturity (for a debut-probably largely due to the bands pre-history) but still smacks of a rookie debut. It’s a mixed bag of sounds and styles with very little direction and guidance. Side one begins with “Anticipating”. A slow start, but showcasing Martha Davis’ unique, smokey voice right away. Decent rock and Missing Persons level structure. Something lacks though, there is no punch. “Kix” follows and is certainly a better choice for number one in my opinion. A punkier edge, including elements of Heart with this one. It’s more cohesive and more driven. “Total Control”-which was actually a single off the album- is a slow jam. Building riffs and such, but it never really pays out. The seeds of the band’s future success are certainly there. I even hear hints of a Quarterflash vibe. “Love Don’t Help” is also slower and more confined. Trying really hard to be soulful. There is difficulty in describing this but it isn’t bad, just unnecessarily funky. Rather weak. “Closets and Bullets” is the closest thing to the future version on the band. Most indicative of the sound they would eventually adopt. Better and best bluesy solos with light new wave action. The Cars-like in nature with driving solo work (#seewhatididthere). This was actually the first single, but it flopped. I am not sure why, because in my humble opinion it is the best tune. At least on this side. If I remember correctly, side two is much better.

The Twins: Passion Factory (Side A)

The Twins are a German synthpop and new wave duo. They were popular (possibly) in Europe during the 1980s. Their successful singles include "Face to Face - Heart to Heart", "Not the Loving Kind", "Ballet Dancer" and "Love System” though NONE of those appear on this, their 1982 debut Passion Factory. It was very difficult to find any information on this band, but as usual I let my gambling instincts take over. When I saw it, I was immediately drawn in by the Kubrick/Clockwork Orange-esque art. It seemed German (check) which means brilliant or weird, probably both. It seemed new wave or electronica (check) based on the time frame, and because of those two things it seemed there would be a good chance I would enjoy it (double check!). Oh, also it was 50 cents, so...I mean, right?!!? Well, now I am very glad I forked over the fifty cents and very sad I couldn’t find much on them, because they were pretty great. Apparently they still play too! She thanks to internet nerd-dome I have been able to piece together that this is their first effort. Another rookie debut! Unlike the previous effort by The Motels though, this is a well polished gem from beat one. It is new wave tea steeped in electronic worship. 2 (presumably) German dudes-one on percussion and one on “compurhythms”. No shit, that’s what the jacket says. Well, sign me up brother, because I want to play compurhythms too! Dark, dreary and gothic at time, but happy, upbeat and upscale at others. Rich with Devo-like vocals and Tubeway Army-like synth work. Do I even need to spell it out?!? It’s F#$*%&+ FANTASTIC!! “The Passion Factory” (appropriately) starts it off. I am not even joking when I say, if your eyes were closed you would think it was a Gary Numan outtake. Sick compurhythms and parallax syntax! Killer harmonies seal the deal. “X-Ray Eyes” May end up as my favorite (but hell, I haven’t even heard Side 2 yet...let’s not jump to conclusions). This jam has keyboard SFx all over the place with great builds and a catchy follow through. It’s midi-fi heaven. These guys did their kraftwerk (#seewhatididthere). “Satellite City” is slower and more picturesque. There are beautiful floating bass keys and more math like precision. Well, crap. We are only 3 cuts in and I’m in love. “Runaway” punks it up a little. Tempo is elevated to times two. That is to say it is slightly faster than the previous offerings. Still present are the catchy riffs and flashy fills and fringe. For a 2 piece this band has a very full sound. A more introspective take on this one, perhaps. The final track (nooooo!!!) is “Electric Bats”. Yes BATS, not beats. I think this literally may be a Numan cover, but a quick check of the liner says otherwise. Well, an homage or borrowed riff at the very least. Also, ROBOTIC VOICE Y’ALL!!!! Independent hi-fives all around. It’s subdued so it’s basically BG noise thus making this effectively an instro outtro. I think it is an absolutely fair and accurate description to say this is Gary Numan’s “Cars” reinterpreted five times. And each one is DELICIOUS!! Wow. I am truly impressed by this. And you know what? Hi-five to past ME. For having the insight and knowledge that future me would really dig this! I don’t know, I think I see playoff predictions for these dudes...needless to say, great stuff.

The Motels are not just a place you stay, but a band that plays early 80’s radio rock with a new wave angle! Who knew! They burned 135 calories in 19 minutes over 5 songs on their debut. That equals 27.00 calories per song and 7.11 calories burned per minute. Also, they earned 10 out of 15 possible stars. The Twins are not just a baseball team in Minnesota, but a synth-pop band that is now one of my favorites! Also debuting their goods they burned an impressive 187 calories over 5 songs and 24 minutes. That is 37.40 calories burned per song and 7.79 calories burned per minute. The band earned 13 out of 15 possible stars. The Twins clearly have a passion and it’s manufactured in their factory through compurhythms! Today’s winner are The Twins!!
