College party
Klancetober ‘21 week 1
Maybe it’s because midterms just ended and Keith is still riding off the adrenaline of taking four two hour tests all in the span of three days. Maybe it’s because his system is still functioning on 99% coffee and 1% actual sleep.
Whatever the cause is, Keith really did not mean to kiss Lance. Not at a frat party and definitely not on a random Thursday night in October.
They’re held up in some unoccupied bedroom, Keith needing to get away from the party atmosphere for a little bit and Lance obliging his wishes even though he’s the type that lives for parties.
But here Keith is, one hand braced on Lance’s thigh as he leans in to kiss Lance, caught up in the euphoria of having his best friend and crush sitting beside him and his hot breath constantly brushing against his cheek whenever he talked.
Once reality returns, Keith hastily pulls back, wide eyed.
“Shit,” he says, snapping his body back and refusing to look at Lance. He drags a hand through his hair, harshly tugging on the strands as if the pain might wake him from the nightmare. He can only stare at the floor. The soles of his boots are wearing thin; he’ll have to find a new pair soon.
“Keith,” he hears Lance say, a little distantly but that’s only because his mind has retreated into itself, trying to ignore what happened. He ruined everything. Suddenly he feels another hand in his hair--Lance’s--that starts to untangle his own. His grip loosens, falling limp at Lance’s touch. “Keith, say what’s on your mind.”
“I’m sorry,” he says, mumbles it really, as he gathers the courage to look at Lance. When he does, Lance’s expression is gentle, curiosity shining in his eyes and a dimple forming when his mouth quirks to the left. His hair remains curled from the heat of the dancefloor, where he already worked up a sweat. Keith wants to run his hands through it, to mess it up even more. “I didn’t mean to kiss you.”
“You did. You never do anything you don’t mean.”
Keith sighs. “Alright, I didn’t mean to kiss you tonight,” he amends his previous statement.
Lance rests his head against the bed frame, watching Keith with a slowly evolving smirk. “Should have done it sooner.”
“What?” Body stiffening, Keith looks at Lance in shock, lips remaining parted. He wonders if he misheard Lance and if just being in the proximity of alcohol has muddled his brain even though he hasn’t had anything to drink.
Rolling his eyes, Lance scoots closer. Their knees bang together, jostling Keith back into some semblance of clarity when Lance leans in. “Honestly, Keith, with how many hints I had to throw your way during our study sessions, I thought I’d grow old before you made a move.”
“You could’ve done something yourself,” Keith lightly argues back, shaking his head. Hesitantly, he lifts his hand to Lance’s face, his thumb gently brushing across the top of his cheekbone, over a spattering of freckles, and smiles when Lance leans into the touch.
“I know,” Lance admits, “But I had to make sure you wanted it too.”
“Well, I do.”
Lance laughs. He takes Keith’s hand in his own and brings it to his mouth, kissing the back of it. “Clearly.”
They never end up returning to the party, claiming the last hours of the night for themselves and an impromptu first date.

MEMORIES OF THE TENTH (CHAPTER 4)
Keith rarely functions well in the morning. He is part of the bigger chunk of the GenZ population that thrives during the early hours of the day, and sleeps during the time “normal” people call “morning.” It wasn’t because Keith didn’t like rising with the sun, it's that most of his best thinking happens when he’s fuelled with energy drinks and the silence of 2am giving him solace and clarity. Besides, mornings at the Shirogane-Kogane house was rarely known for the early bird hustle and bustle. His parents, whenever they were in the area, worked the night shift. By the time the clock strikes 5, their parents pad their way towards their bedroom to relish in a much-needed slumber. They’d wake up by lunch time to eat and resume either napping or actually starting on their activities. This was the routine he grew accustomed with (which is why he also chose the afternoon schedule in college) that made him not a morning person.
When he heard a distant voice singing from downstairs, he had no choice but to wake up--that and because the familiar warmth of a body he was acquainted with last night seemed to have disappeared from beside him. He automatically sits up, eyes frantically scanning the room for Lance who was nowhere to be found.
Suspicions confirmed, he gets up to make his bed before making his way downstairs where he was positive a certain Cuban was putting on a show.
He was almost down the steps when he heard Hunk laugh and the music changed into something more discotheque that buzzed energetic waves across the room.
“Lance,” he hears Hunk say in between laughs. “Here, use this.”
He finally peeks into the room, his presence unnoticed by the pair who were (apparently) making breakfast in their kitchen. He watched as his boyfriend, who wore a zipped up jacket and shorts, sauntered to the other side of the counter that divided the kitchen and the dining area, a wooden spoon in his hands. He clutched it as if it was a microphone, and used it as if it was one.
“I wasn't jealous before we met.” Lance sings along. “Now every woman I see is a potential threat.”
‘You mean man, right?” Hunk corrects him as he continues mixing in a bowl. That earned him a snap of Lance’s fingers with a wink to the big guy’s direction and a “yes, you’re right.”
He continued on singing along, abandoning the wooden spoon and picking up one of his dad’s cowboy hats that hung idle against their clothes rack as he sang: “And I'm possessive, it isn't nice. You've heard me saying that smoking was my only vice.” He puts his two fingers close to his lips after he sings the last line, inhaling then letting out an exaggerated exhale as if he was smoking himself.
He puts on the cowboy hat.
“But now it isn't true.”
His fingers graze the zipper of his jacket.
“Now everything is new.”
He unzips it, his movements in sync with the music.
“And all I've learned has overturned. I beg of you!”
Lance takes off his jacket as he breaks out the chorus, dropping it on the floor with a swing and a flourish. Meanwhile, Hunk traded the bowl he was holding with a phone, filming Lance as he sang and danced in the dining room. Keith slowly creeps in closer, vague memories of a movie scene that Lance made him watch one night, slowly resurface in his mind. He recalls his boyfriend telling him to watch that scene intently as he sang along with the two characters with an obvious flush on his cheeks.
Lance makes his way to the wall, almost directly at Keith’s direction but not looking at him, instead his boyfriend was looking at Hunk’s phone as he held his arms out, palms touching the wall, as his hips swayed back and forth as he sang.
“It was like shooting a sitting duck. A little small talk, a smile and baby I was stuck.”
There are moments that Keith wants to cherish behind a curtain (or in his case right now, a wall) but there were also rare occasions that joining in the foolishness that was closely reenacting a scene from one of the world’s popular lesbian and bisexual awakenings might not be entirely the worst thing in the world. Besides, if he didn’t toy around with his boyfriend at this part of the song (if he remembers it correctly) his boyfriend will never forgive him for passing up the candid opportunity.
With a sigh, he makes his presence known.
Now, Lance was a performer. There was never a sliver of doubt from Keith when it came to his boyfriend with these forms of entertainment. He had always admired the fluidity in his movements every time he dances and the way he has a boyish but melodious charm when he sings. In an alternate reality, Lance would have probably been majoring in drama instead of astrophysics. He might even be one of the big names in Broadway, winning 10 Tonys and earning 20 nominations.
Basically, what Keith’s trying to say is that he shouldn’t be surprised that his sudden appearance wouldn’t jolt Lance out of his performance.
Instead, he detaches himself from the wall, a playful look in his eyes, as he reaches down in a crawling position, making his way towards Keith, singing: “I still don't know what you've done with me. A grown-up man should never fall so easily.”
Keith drops to his knees to meet his boyfriend. He was glad to do so, fearing that his knees would betray him and fold at the intensity of Lance’s attention. But mostly, Lance motioned with his head for him to get down in almost perfect mimicry of the scene.
By the time his boyfriend reaches him, noses almost bumping, Keith wraps his arms around his neck as Lance continues to sing with a soft smile. “I feel a kind of fear. When I don't have you near.” Keith could feel his heart racing as Lance continued to sing to him, not once breaking out of character. Or maybe, he wasn’t even really acting at this point? And that maybe the lyrics he was singing along to were somewhat meant for him?
Lance’s fingers weave their way into Keith’s hair. “Unsatisfied, I skip my pride. I beg you, dear!” He pulls Keith on top of him after he sings the last word. He managed to catch himself before he could slam hard into Lance’s chest---which would definitely ruin this moment--- and balance himself as Lance encouraged him to sing-along. “You can do it!” His mouth says over the music.
If it makes his boyfriend happy, fuck it, right?
He cups Lance’s cheek as he tries to sing along. “Don't go wasting your emotion. Lay all your love on me.”
And then in unison: “Don't go sharing your devotion. Lay all your love on me!”
They shared a chaste kiss as the song continued to play in the background.
Hunk shows them the video later and Lance laughs at how red Keith looked towards the end of the video and for once, Keith doesn’t mind.
Waking up like this, with Lance in the kitchen singing and dancing like no one was watching and having him have Keith roped in his shenanigans, was something he could get used to. It was something he wants to get used to.
He buries his head in his significant other’s shoulders and mutters a “Good morning to you, too.”
This is a snippet of Chapter 4 of my Klancetober fic (which is now complete!) feel free to check it out! Im uber proud of my progress and I hope whoever reads it enjoys the fluff 😌

pumpkins
Klancetober ‘21 week 4
“For someone with a knife fetish, you’d think you’d be better at carving pumpkins.”
“Is it a contest for you to try to say the stupidest line of the day?” Keith growls as he stabs the pumpkin, trying to anchor the blade to cut out a triangle eye.
Lance holds his hands up in surrender. “Hey, don’t take your inability to carve a pumpkin out on me.”
“Sorry,” Keith mumbles but continues to focus on carving. He saws back and forth until a piece of pumpkin falls onto the table. After a few more cuts, he successfully carved his first jack-o-lantern.
Well, maybe not too successfully.
Lance’s pumpkin isn’t perfect either with a jagged line here or there where the knife slipped. But it is nowhere near the level of horror (and not the good kind) that Keith’s has reached. One of the triangle eyes looks like a square. The mouth wobbles into more of a grimace than a smile. A tooth is hanging on by a thread where Keith accidentally cut too far inward.
Lance studies Keith’s pumpkin, his hand gripping his chin as he gathers his thoughts. “Honestly,” he says at last, “This is a masterpiece; it should be in a museum.”
Keith rolls his eyes at Lance’s exaggerations. “It’s ugly.”
Lance whacks him on the arm. “Don’t insult your pumpkin! It can probably hear you.” Leaning in closer, a stupid grin resting on his face, he points to the (accidental) slices above the jack-o-lantern’s eyes. “Aww, you even gave it angry eyebrows.” Lance looks at Keith again. “They almost match yours. You could be twins!”
“You have five seconds to run.”
“Yeah?” Walking toward Keith, Lance grasps his face and kisses him square on the mouth. Caught off guard, Keith almost stumbles forward but Lance holds him steady. Eventually, Lance pulls back with a smirk. “Thanks for giving me a head start, babe.” He grabs Keith’s pumpkin and sprints.

Magic
Klancetober ‘21 week 2
“Hey, do you want to grab a bite to eat?” Lance asks after he enters the shop. The brass bell above the door falls silent by the time Lance reaches the checkout area. He has a grin on his face as he rests against the counter while Keith just looks at him with a deadpan expression.
This vampire has been bothering Keith since he took over working at the shop a month ago when Shiro and Adam went on their well deserved second honeymoon.
Running a witch’s shop is as boring as he suspected. He creates charms, casts spells, and brews potions for well meaning clients. But everyone comes and goes. He hasn’t seen the same face twice over the past couple of weeks even though the shop has been relatively busy. Except for Lance of course. Basically, he’s the only customer Keith gives a flying fuck about.
Lance makes the work day interesting with his stupid jokes and brilliant smile. If Keith hides a small grin whenever he spots Lance walking past the large front window, that is nobody’s business.
Keith arches an eyebrow. “Am I the meal in this scenario?”
“Haha, very funny. Pun was so not intended.” Lance bares his teeth in a grimace, fangs and all. “Besides, your blood probably tastes terrible with all your witchy protection charms.”
Keith’s long hair spills around his shoulders, catching in the collar of his shirt, as he leans forward. His lips quirk into a slight smirk. “You know the saying: you don't know until you’ve tried.”
Eyeing him with some interest, Lance skirts his gaze over Keith’s exposed neck. A dark blush rests faintly on his cheeks. Keith almost laughs. “That sounds like a challenge you don’t want to make,” Lance finally says, visibly swallowing.
Keith sighs and refocuses his energy on why he’s behind the counter. He plasters on his fake retail smile--he promised Shiro he’d be on his best behavior after all. “So what do you want this time? Looking for more spell books for your friends or sunblock potions--though I’m pretty sure I made you a batch last week.”
Lance’s friends seem to have him do all the errands, on the sole fact that Keith has never seen them step into the store since he started working--though, he has heard all about them. It’s always Lance alone. But he never appears to be put off by it, so who is Keith to judge?
It takes a moment for Lance to respond, and Keith absently fiddles with a charm he has to put on display, peering at Lance through his fringe.
Sheepishly, Lance palms the back of his neck, ruffling his short hair. Then his hands slide into his jean pockets as he rocks back on his heels. “Uh no, I was actually serious earlier. I was wondering if you wanted to go out to lunch with me. As in, like a date.”
Keith’s head snaps up; a bright blush burns his face. “Oh.” He stops fiddling with the inventory before him. He’ll catalogue those charms later, and he pushes them into a haphazard pile off to the side. More pressing matters call his attention. “Seriously?”
“Yes seriously.” Lance’s eyebrows shoot up so high that they become hidden behind his hair. His mouth pops open in disbelief or outrage--one of the two, Keith can’t tell. “Why are you so surprised!? I’ve been flirting with you since we met. Don't tell me you never noticed?”
“I’m sorry; I didn't realize you calling me a jackass when we first met was your special brand of flirting.”
Lance waves his arms, gesturing wildly at Keith. “I was flustered! You caught me off guard! I was expecting Shiro.”
Keith hums in response to Lance’s defense. As much as he loves to watch Lance flounder, that cocky, confident attitude disappearing in a flourish, he quickly shows mercy. “I have ten minutes until my break if you don't mind waiting.”
It takes a second for Keith’s words to sink in. He watches as Lance’s eyes slowly widen, his mouth moving upwards at the same time. He hops up onto the counter with so much delight that even Keith isn’t cruel enough to tell him to get off. Lance leans forward, his shoes pounding against the side of the counter rhythmically. Keith arches his head to look up at him.
“I don’t mind at all.” Lance grins.
Keith mirrors his expression openly.

Halloween
Keithtober ‘21 day 31
Sitting alone on an old couch while a Halloween party rages on around him had not been Keith’s first choice for the evening. Unfortunately, Pidge, who dragged him here originally to ‘have a life,’ already abandoned him to play video games in the basement. He was welcomed to join, but after a week of midterms, he had no energy to walk down a flight of stairs and plopped himself on the first available seat in silent protest.
Now, he kind of wishes he made the ten extra steps.
“What are you supposed to be? A time traveler from the 1980s?” Lance asks him as he walks towards him. His eyes zip over Keith’s body, nose scrunching in displeasure. “Is that an ugly wig or just your hair?” Lance reaches out to tug on Keith’s long hair--something he’s been stupidly fixated on since they met freshman year.
Unfortunately to round off the spectacular evening, standing before Keith is Lance from biology, Lance his dorm neighbor, Lance the guy who he (accidentally) started a rivals-with-benefits type of situation with, and most importantly, Lance his crush.
He should have known he would have run into Lance at their college’s most popular Halloween party.
Keith slaps Lance’s hand away. “Very funny,” he says dryly. “What’re you supposed to be?”
Lance’s dark gray-blue shirt is unbuttoned enough to reveal his collarbone and a sliver of his chest. His brown hair has been gelled back with the front slightly spiked. Which looks ridiculous. He even has a line of fake blood--probably red marker--running from the corner of his mouth like he just came from having a bite.
“I’m an attractive vampire.” Lance waves around fake plastic vampire teeth, popping them in for a second and grinning. They look uncomfortable in his mouth. Unknowingly proving the observation, Lance takes them out not a second later. Though, it is more like he spits them out ungracefully into a nearby napkin.
Keith squints when Lance turns his body enough that the low, orange lighting of the party seems to refract off of him. “Are you--are you actually wearing body glitter?”
“Well, yeah,” Lance says with a ‘duh’ expression once he sets his full attention on Keith again. “How else am I expected to sparkle?”
“It hurts my eyes.”
Leaning forward, Lance invades his space. “Is that your way of saying you can’t keep your eyes off of me?” Lance asks, eyes gleaming. Inches away now, Keith can see all the individual sparkly specs on Lance’s dark skin; they cover him like freckles. Lance quirks his lips. “If so, I accept the compliment.”
“That’s reaching and you know it,” Keith replies before sighing. He places his chin in his hand, elbow resting on the arm rest, and tiredly stares at Lance. “Did you just come over here to insult me or did you have an ulterior motive?”
Now Lance has the decency to look a little sheepish. Moving out of Keith’s space, he ducks his head, palming the back of his neck, mumbling, “You looked lonely. And I want to dance with you.”
“You could have started with that, you know.”
Tilting his head, Lance smiles, already holding his hands out in front of Keith, waiting. “But it’s so much more enjoyable to make fun of you.” He wiggles his fingers.
They work like magic, drawing Keith off the couch. He places his nearly full drink on the coffee table--the beer tasted terrible anyways. Grabbing hold of Lance’s hands, he interlocks their fingers. “Never say I don’t do anything for you.”
Lance rolls his eyes and smiles. He pulls Keith forward, almost enough to cause him to stumble. “Yeah, yeah, just get on the dance floor.”

autumn
Klancetober ‘21 week 3
“So you decided for our two week vacation that hiking and camping was an appropriate date idea?” Lance grumbles, following behind Keith. His steps are heavy as he pushes himself up the trail. Keith rolls his eyes. “Because I was picturing more like lounging on a beach near a seaside resort that we would book for a whole weekend.”
“It’ll be worth it,” Keith says.
Sunlight pokes through the bare spots in the trees, and leaves rain down in his path whenever a gust of wind weaves its way through. It’s warmer than usual for a mid-October day. Keith tied his jacket around his waist and threw his hair into a ponytail almost ten minutes into their hike. Despite that, the air settles comfortably on his skin. He breathes in deep, the forest filling his lungs.
A small cabin waits for them at the top of the trail. It will be fully furnished, though probably a little dusty from the time between its last occupants, and will be all theirs for a week.
This is the most alone time they’ve had in months. No Blade members looking for orders, no planets asking for help. Just them and nature. In all honesty, that’s the main reason why Keith decided they should go camping (or, a less rugged form of camping). He needs to recharge away from people for a while. He’ll let Lance choose their vacation spot next time.
“What if we get attacked by a bear?” Lance asks. His voice carries a little, still a ways behind Keith.
Spinning around, Keith starts to walk backwards so he can set his most deadpan expression on Lance. “We’ve fought countless battles against much larger opponents and you’re scared about a bear?”
Lance looks at him, nose scrunched. He holds up a hand to shield his eyes since the sun rests directly behind Keith--it warms his back. “Unlike those battles, I don’t have a weapon nor heavy duty Altean armor on me. So yes, Keith, I am worried about running into a bear.”
Keith extends his hand to help Lance over the fallen log. “I’d protect you.”
“That’s so sweet of you.” Lance’s voice drips in sarcasm. But he takes Keith’s outstretched hand and hops over. They’re almost nose to nose now that Keith has pulled Lance closer. Lance’s cheeks are flushed from the exercise. A light sheen of sweat glistens on his brown skin, probably because he hasn’t bothered to take off his oversized jacket yet for whatever reason. Stubbornness probably. “I’d leave you for dead of course.”
Smiling, Keith says, “Naturally.”
The further they walk the more the sky begins to darken above them. A light gray covering if anything, but it has Keith looking up when the sunlight in the forest dims and the shadows meld into each other. Soft rain begins to patter his head.
From sun to clouds, it only takes a few seconds for it to start drizzling. With the only dark clouds above them, it is really no more than a sun shower and will hopefully be over soon.
Holding out his hand, drops pinging against his palm, Lance raises an eyebrow. “Forgot to check the weather?”
“Shut up,” Keith mutters with little bite.
Sometimes it’s hard to remember the small, but important, things after being away from Earth for so long. It had looked sunny when they left, so Keith assumed it would stay that way. In all fairness, however, in the distance, there is still a large patch of sun. So Keith starts heading towards that.
The rain does not last long as predicted--it never even becomes strong enough to soak them, especially with the cover the forest provides. A few remaining drops catch in Lance’s eyelashes. He blinks them away. Keith reaches out to brush away a stray raindrop that started to slide down his cheek.
“Thanks,” Lance says, quietly. He returns the favor by tucking back a lock of Keith’s damp hair behind his ear. “So how much longer is this torture going to last?” His lips twitch slightly, amused already by whatever ridiculous thing he is about to say next. “It’s been hours.”
It’s probably only been forty minutes.
Keith huffs with a shake of his head. “We’re almost there.”
Lance hikes his backpack higher up on his shoulders. “Good. ‘Cause my feet are about to fall off.”
“I’m not carrying you.”
Lance smirks, shrugging unperturbed. “Worth the try.” Tugging on Keith’s ponytail, he shoves Keith lightly in the shoulder and makes his way past him to take the lead on the trail. Keith stares after him until he realizes he needs to start walking too, which is only prompted by Lance’s “You coming, slow poke?”
The bastard wasn’t even tired at all.
Luckily, they make it to the top just in time. They stand out on a rocky ledge that overhangs the valley below. The fading sun paints the sky in pinks and oranges, every strip of blue slowly consumed. Lance wraps an arm around Keith’s waist to hold him close. Keith listens to Lance’s steady breathing, his constant heart beat, and smiles.
Despite all the places, the worlds, they have travelled to over the years, nothing has ever quite matched an Earthen sunset.
“How’s this now?” Keith says, continuing to stare at the horizon, watching the sun sink lower and lower. A few stars have already made their appearance as twilight descends upon them.
Lance turns his head, shifting his body. “Amazing.” He pecks Keith’s cheek, his lips warm. “You’re amazing.”
