Ed: Never thought about it like that. I suppose I do work for Blackbeard.

I am OBSESSED with this line. Ed has spent the vast majority of his life being whatever he's doing. He says "I'm Blackbeard" later in that episode, and "I'm the Kraken" in the next. He has never had a job, he has only been his job. He had never gotten to be himself.

From the first second he meets Stede, from their first interaction, Ed is put into a new position: he is EDWARD. He works for Blackbeard, and that's a fact about him, rather than his identity. This is so important to his and Stede's relationship. Stede is the first person to ever see Blackbeard as Ed's job rather than his identity. He respects the job, and values that Ed is damn good at it, but he understands that Ed needs to turn it off.

This is in direct contrast to Izzy, who sees any time Ed is not in the Blackbeard role as time wasted. He sees Ed as a waste of a person, only meant to be Blackbeard.

I need more people to see Blackbeard as a job and give Ed a goddamn hug.

Let’s say season 2 is ten episodes long, what episode do you want an Ed and Stede reunion? As much as I want episode one so they have nine episodes to fix their shit, imagine the parallel between S1 and S2. S1 showing Stede without Ed for the first 3 episodes so we understand who he is. S2 showing Ed without Stede for the first three episodes so we can see how the Kraken has developed while they’ve been apart.
