No. 11 Cambodian kuy teacher soup with pork loin, shrimp, rice noodles, green onion, fried garlic. San Francisco CA📍 @braisedbread 📱 ••• The soup broth was super flavorful! Although I should’ve ordered extra noodles or something because it wasn’t a lot of food. 🍜 • • • #soup #kuyteav #cambodianfood #noodles #pork #shrimp #lunch #food #foodie #foodporn #foodstagram #foodphotography #vittlemonster #feedme #nofilter #instafood #eater #nomnom #foodgasm #yummy #tasty #eatersf #sfeats #sffood #sffoodie #bayareafoodie (at Braised + Bread) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_P6R9aFBaI/?igshid=qcx0u5fokcc9

Quarantine Mother’s Day
Mother’s day 2020- we decided to have a gathering at my brother’s house, and invited my uncle’s family whom we haven’t seen in 2 months. Only my aunt and one of my cousins showed up at the start, I picked up my younger cousin later. My aunt has been going through tough marital times, and it shows - she lost weight and wasn’t as cheery. She stopped putting effort into her looks when before she loved to dress up. My SIL made spaghetti, bacon wrapped scallops, cut up lots of fruit, and also had a salami + gouda plate. They also bought pizza and donuts.
We started the day by watching crazy rich asians. Half of us have seen it already, but my dad had not. 20 min into the film, he declared, “this movie is bullshit. having a rich husband is every female’s fantasy” LOL. anyway, my mom and grandma were very happy on this day because they finally got to leave the house and doll up. i helped them take nice pictures. my other uncle arrived later and also brought a yummy taro cake.
my brother’s house is pretty big - i was chilling in one of the rooms with my younger cousin when my aunt came to find me. i was laying down and she sat next to me at edge of the bed. she ended up crying to me in front of my cousin (who is 8-9) about her marital struggles and her desire to get a divorce. i’ve never seen her in so much pain. my cousin looked up at his mom and then left to the next room to continue playing on his ipad. when he later left that room, he checked back in our room to see that his mom was still crying - he then decided to go downstairs. i felt so bad for my aunt - she said my uncle started changing 3 years ago. they’ve been married for 16 years. hearing things like this makes me a little terrified of getting married.
after the therapy session, she seemed lighter, and we were able to proceed in celebrating mother’s day. my brother set up DDR - a game that we played all the time as children. it was nostalgic for me to play my favorite song back in the days (end of century). i was panting halfway through the song and failed it. it’s definitely good cardio. they also sang karaoke and watched an old hong kong movie staring michelle yeoh (nick young’s mother). we planned for a trip/picnic to castaic lake this upcoming weekend. :)
running updates: i ran 24 miles since the start of may. i am aiming to complete at least 50 miles this month - probably the most i’ve ever run in my life. i am improving, and although sometimes i dread going for the run (and hate it during the run), i always end up feeling good and stronger afterwards. i am following peloton videos - olivia amato is my girl for running. i feel like i’m dependent upon having someone yell at me and motivate me to continue running, so i question if i’m able to do the same distance on my own. but whatever. right now, it takes me about 34 minutes to complete 3 miles. i hope that i can get it under 30 in the months to come.
i’m grateful that i can concentrate on my athletic side thanks to quarantine. i realize how much sleep i need when i’m training- when i’m working at the office or always on the go (commuting, running errands, and tending to social events), i don’t have that time. it’s easier for me to focus on getting stronger when i’m stuck at home. i sleep more, eat more, and have more energy to workout. i have less distractions and expend my energy less outside of workouts (because i don’t leave my house).
i’m happy that i feel stronger now than i did when i trained for my half marathon in 2016. i was kinda clueless back then about running, and also very small/weak. even though it gets on my nerves when matt is critical or has high standards of me, it is quite effective in getting me to improve, so i’ll give him that lol. he’s helped me put on some healthy weight (this is the heaviest i’ve been my whole life) and pushed me to have a stronger body.
i’m relearning how to eat at age 28. i use to focus on the quality, taste, delicacies and comfort of foods, but now i kinda see it as categorical food groups or what the food actually is as processed in the body. for example, i love to eat noodle soup (pho, kuyteav), but if i were looking it at based off of what the food actually consists of - it’s just a lot of carbs and sodium, with some protein. i’ve definitely become less picky of food during quarantine, in an effort to eat more. but i’ll always appreciate exquisite food hehe.

Probably the priciest kuyteav spot catered to the well to do locals. I have never seen a foreigner eat here. Superb ingredients, large bowl, and great broth texture. Highly recommend this. 🍜 #breakfastwithounio #dmforname (at Phnom Penh)
