Ok I feel like we're finally back on track with this season now

It feels like a bucket of ice water’s dumped over his head as he finally accepts that something is very, very wrong.

Roswell New Mexico Fic Rec List
For a show that’s only had 13 episodes so far, the Roswell New Mexico fandom has produced alot of great fics and media. My criteria for inclusion is simple - these are the fics I like and in most cases, have read multiple times. If a character or pairing doesn’t have a listing, it just means I haven’t found something I want to list, not that I don’t like, or object to that character, person or ship (but I will never link to character-bashing fics). This is an ongoing post that will be updated (as I need to go back and re-read a few potential additions so I can do the summary/comments). If you’ve got suggestions, hit me up via comments, DM’s, whatevs.

You looked down at the cake before you with a nervous sweat running down your back. Was it possible the monstrosity in front of you could even be called a cake? You weren’t the only one scared of the sugary monster on the counter in front of you. Standing to your left wearing a very pink and flower apron was Stan marsh, also known as Kyle’s super best friend, and to your right was Butters who had come to help the two of you bake. However, you had no skills in the kitchen; Stan wanted to be captain of this horrendous group project so he was always battling with Butters who actually knew how to bake anything from a singular cupcake to (probably) a seven layer cake. You stood there, watching the cake slowly fall to the side and onto the counter, leftover egg splattered across the countertop dripping over the edge with shell mixed in with it.
Today was Kyle’s birthday, and you had gotten Stan to join you in on the idea of making him a homemade cake. However, due to your sour thumb in baking the two of you had enlisted the help of Butters. Now, with the kitchen, practically a mess, the superb party for the ginger was about to go on everyone was in panic mode. You still wanted to make something homemade for Kyle, you loved him after all. Looking at the toxic goop beginning to bubble and form on your counter, you felt your heart sink into your stomach as you crouched down and fought back tears.
“O-Oh hamburgers, are you okay?! We can fix this, really we can—“
“No, we can’t Butters! The party starts soon and we don’t have enough of ANYTHING to give Kyle… I just wanted to give him something hand baked made with the love of my heart because that’s, ya know, what they do in the cheesy animes and movies but this,” you pointed to the leaning tower of sweets in your kitchen, “this is just a fucking abomination!”
You continued to crouch in the middle of the kitchen floor, crying softly to yourself at the fact you were unable to do something as sweet and as simple as making the love of your life a cake. As you sat there crying, Stan felt a bit guilty for all the fighting and arguing he had done with Butters. If he had just let him lead like originally planned maybe this wouldn’t have turned out as bad as it did. Stan walked over to the counter, staring down at their monster baby before carefully picking it up from its pan and just dropping all of it into the trash can. Hearing the clattering, you looked up and witnessed your friend throwing out the failure of a cake before returning to you and crouching down.
“Listen, we have some batter left we can maybe salvage with the help of Butters, it’s not over yet. Besides, I want to make something for my SBF just as much as you want to make something for your crush,” Stan smiled. Butters seemed to look around at what was left, grabbing what he could and cleaning up some of the mess before looking back at the both of you.
“Well, if we start now we can have a small first batch out and iced when people get here. If we play it right we can bake until people are full, so it’s not completely ruined!” You couldn’t help but smile, using the sleeves of your shirt covered in flour and other cake ingredients to wipe off your tears before standing with a nod of your head in determination. You were going to give that Jew the best cupcake he would have in his whole life.
As time rolled by and you listened to Butters like he was your Lord and Savior, you and Stan both followed his instructions to the T, mixing things appropriately and even triple checking with him that you guys had measurements right and things filled correctly. You had decided to use your house for Kyle’s birthday since your parents were conveniently out of town for the day, so you guys could do almost anything while they weren’t here. As the doorbell went off, you carefully set the large mixing bowl down on the counter and wiped your hands hastily on your baby blue apron before leaving Butters and Stan to fan down the fresh cupcakes so they were cool enough to be iced. As you ran over to the front door and opened it, you were only greeted by Token and his gang. You gave a wipe of your brow in relief, scared it was going to be Kyle with the ass-hat and Kenny.
“Oh, sorry if I look like dog garbage, I’m uh. Still busy in the kitchen with stuff, however normal food is ready, the sweets aren’t done yet. Help yourself to the TV, new games I bought for us, and any music from the stereo. If you go upstairs, stay out of my top dresser drawers and completely out of my mother’s room. Thanks,” you didn’t give the boys a chance to say anything back before you ran off back to the kitchen.
You could cry in joy at the sight before. Though the boys certainly weren’t the artistic kind, the cupcakes were cool enough now and being iced. You were giddy, excited to feed the sweets to everyone, considering how hard you and the three had worked on these fuckers. You ushered Stan to go get changed and cleaned, telling him you would finish and he could hang out with Kyle when he got here. As he put the piping bag down, you took it up and began decorating in his place, the living room easily echoing into the silent kitchen as Token and Clyde began playing what you could only assume was the sound of Smash Bros on your TV. You stood there, decorating each mini-cake with a little determined pout on your face til you heard Butters stifling his laughter while looking at you. You finished up the current cupcake and relaxed your grip as you turned to him.
“W-What the hell is so funny Butters?!”
“Well it’s just, you’ve never been the super girly girl type, but for Kyle, you’re wearing one of your mother's frilly aprons, covered in flour from head to toe from trying to bake him a cake. It’s just really funny because it’s very unlike you.”
“Well, I just. I really like the guy, okay? He’s sweet but also a smart ass, and I think he looks cutest when angry and fighting with Cartman. Look, I’m, my heart is gay, okay? Like it’s weird, ignore me, can we finish?” You began to ramble without meaning too, trying to avoid eye contact with him and not wanting to talk about your feelings.
Butters simply smiled and went back to help you bake and decorate cupcakes. You decided to take it upon yourself and make a very pretty one just for Kyle. There weren’t any special colors, but you decided to simply try our very hardest on this particular cupcake. It felt like you were defusing a time bomb as you slowly covered it in beautiful swirls and curls. The doorbell continuously went off as you were in the kitchen, and each time you paused to listen in on everyone, hoping to catch names in the wind. Luckily, none of the outbursts were loud ‘happy birthdays’ which meant Kyle still wasn’t here yet. As you wrapped up the little Cupcake you personally decorated for the ginger, you set it aside before turning to Butters as he finished up the last bitch just minutes before Kyle walked in.
“BIRTHDAY BOY IN THE HOUSE!” You froze in your spot as everyone began cheering and laughing. Oh god, Kyle was here, he was here and you looked like fucking shit. You had batter smeared all across your apron from the first monstrosity birthed from your oven as well as floor and icing caking, pun intended your hair and face. The last thing you had wanted to do was look like a fucking wreck in front of the one person you actually gave two shits about. Deciding to take a makeshift bath in the kitchen without getting completely undressed, you tossed the apron across the kitchen and told yourself you’d have to wash it later. Turning the sink on to MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE, you let the water becoming scalding hot before washing your hands and doing your best to get the crap out of your hair and off your face, though it was awesome because now you’d be smelling like the Pillsbury Doughboys asshole for the next few days. In the meantime, Stan was busy occupying his group of friends, doing his best to keep them from the kitchen.
“Stan why the fuck is your hands covered in girly Band-Aids,” Kenny muffled. Kyle grabbed his friend’s hands and raised them. Multiple Band-Aids with the little face of Hello Kitty was on them and cursed Butters for being a piece of shit sometimes.
“I was helping out in the kitchen with food, before you guys got here, (y/n) really wanted to make a cake for you Kyle, though in the end, it looked like a monster from a movie in the 1970s so they salvaged what they could with mine and Butters help,” of course he would never admit to playing around with a knife and then getting hurt from his stupid actions. At this information, Kyle seemed to brighten up just a bit, the sound of you making something just for him? He couldn’t wait now.
You managed to run into the living room, looking decent and greeted everyone with smiles and hugs. As you reached Stan and the group, you gave Kyle a tight hug from behind before popping up in front of him with a little jump and shouting ‘BOO’ and watched as he faked his fear. The two of you shared a little laugh as Cartman gagged in the background and rolled his eyes.
“Sorry it took me so long to get out here I was busy in the kitchen.”
“You’re fine, Stan was just telling me you were baking me a homemade dessert,” Kyle smirked. You felt nervous and your heart melt. You felt your face growing warm and panicked, was your face red? Could they all see that you were embarrassed? You gave a nervous laugh.
“Y-Yeah, I guess I should go get those for you then, shouldn’t I? Sorry, it’s not a cake and instead cupcakes, but I hope you enjoy them.” You ran off to grab the tray of multiple cupcakes, the more decorative one in the middle surrounded by nineteen candles. As you heard Stan call for everyone to gather around, you carefully lit each candle as fast as possible before picking up the tray and moving slowly as to not blow out the fire. When you began to peak around the corner, everyone began to sing quietly to Kyle, who had a big joyous smile on his face as you walked over. As you set down the tray, the little candles flickered from where they were resting, and you carefully sat down across from Kyle.
“Happy birthday Kyle, make a wish.”

I really don't understand why Seb is coming back? There doesn't seem to be any plot reason for it. I suppose there could be in the episodes but it appears like Robron have a lot going on that week anyway. It seems like he's there again to remind us that Robert has a baby with Rebecca (as if we could ever forget). I just don't understand why he's treated differently to every other baby that's ever been on the show. I want Robron to move on from what happened in 2017.

The Sports Desk – The Switch Sports Roundup

When the Switch came out, I expected the viable sports game options to be scarce. Fast-forward to today, and the genre still isn’t a strong suit of the system, but the Switch has put together a decent roster. Surprisingly, it’s not just all the same franchises you might expect.
Although the Switch will never have the online support or features of games on the other systems, here are some of the standouts on the console (sans racing titles, BTW). If you want to check out some less-traditional/popular sports, there are a variety of options from OlliOlli: Switch Stance to Rapala Fishing Pro Series, and Trials Rising.
Super Volley Blast ($9.99)*
Developer: Unfinished Pixel
In a video game context, volleyball could be simple to the point of bland, but Super Volley Blast avoids such a fate. The 2-on-2 title (including 4-player multiplayer) requires some positioning teamwork and strategy with your partner to set up your volleys across the net. There is some variety where A.I. opponents place the ball, and the timing of jump spikes can be hard to master (and a little inconsistent in my experience). Moreover, Super Blast Mode’s gameplay variations (there’s also a story mode) include Chicken Ball, Bomb Ball, Max 2 Hits, and others. Chicken Ball, in particular, replaces the ball with poultry with a penchant for erratic movements, making for a fun variation.

I’ve included these two games in one entry because they are already known quantities and for what they share in common: They’re modeled after famous triple-A counterparts on the other home consoles, and while they’re not 1-for-1 ports, suffering in areas such as graphics, online play, and other differences, they still offer solid sports experiences on and off the court/pitch. Click here for some of my thoughts about FIFA 19 on Switch in particular.
Football Manager 2019 Touch ($39.99)
Developer: Sports Interactive
The text and menu-heavy nature of this port of Sports Interactive’s revered soccer management title isn’t ideally suited for the Switch (here are some thoughts about this year’s game overall), but it’s worth it due to the options the game gives you as a manager. Oversee as little or as much of your team’s operations, from training to in-match tactics for the team and individuals. Football Manager can be a daunting game, but the Switch’s portability and streamlined nature of this port help it be more accessible.

Mario Tennis Aces ($59.99)
Developer: Camelot
Aces (click for Kyle’s review) gives the franchise a return to form thanks to the inclusion of a full-on Story mode, augmenting the stellar gameplay, boss battles, racket break system, and first-person Zone Shots. Nintendo doesn’t deal in a lot of first-party sports titles, but Mario Tennis is good enough that it easily beats out less-accomplished licensed games like Tennis World Tour on the system.

Rocket League ($19.99)

Not much more needs to be said about this fabulous and famous soccer-with-cars title other than it won’t take you long to get hooked on its crazy charm. It’s also worth noting that it has cross-platform play with the other platforms.

NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 ($29.99)
Just before release 2K stepped in to publish this title, adding it as an arcade-gameplay counter to the publisher’s sim-based NBA 2K series already on the Switch. This sequel retains the gameplay of the first title, which is a good thing, surrounding it with more modes like Playground Champion and Season. Getting good players is a grind (aided by microtransactions, of course), but the arcade basketball itself isn’t bad.

New Star Manager ($19.99)
Developer: New Star Games
This title was a free mobile game, and as such, it revolves around card packs for fundamental elements in the game from players to training, etc. The Switch version doles out packs as you level up, changing the tone of the title, and the optional analog stick gameplay is better than mobile’s touch controls. Overall, the game is about working your way up the promotion ladder while managing your players, staff, and stadium along the way.

Mutant Football League: Dynasty Edition ($29.99)
Developer: Digital Dreams
The Dynasty Edition of this spiritual successor to 1993’s Mutant League Football adds a multi-year Dynasty mode (complete with trades, and XP system, custom playbooks, free agency, and more), four new teams, and additional dirty tricks giving depth to the on-the-field experience that already pushes the envelope of the sport with traps and player deaths. Football Heroes Turbo ($14.99)
Developer: Run Games
Similar to Mutant Football League, Football Heroes offers a non-traditional gridiron experience. The title lets you punch players out of your way by button tapping – including when you’re on defense – and gives players power-ups like powerful hurdles, fumble-inducing tackles, and sure-handed catches as they level up. Your team also gets better as you make your way up the seasons ladder, adding more money to its salary cap and training points for the players. I played the Early Access PC version of the game, and was charmed by its look and rough-and-tumble gameplay, and intrigued by its team-building options.

It’s Saturday morning and Kyle’s been up since 5:30. He’d like to say he did it on purpose, because waking up early with the express intent of going on a run and completing other various errands on a Saturday morning is responsible. Adult-like. A totally normal thing that other late-twenty-somethings do on their weekends.
Waking up early because it’s been a shitty night of restless, anxiety-induced sleeplessness, so you might as well get up anyways, especially when that lack of sleep is caused by romantic problems? Not very responsible or adult-y. And he doesn’t think the specific romantic troubles he’s having are ones most other late-twenty-somethings have to deal with either.
In love with someone? Yeah, sure; that’s pretty normal. In love with two someones? Maybe not as common, though definitely not out of the realm of possibility. Those two someones love each other? Yikes, that sucks my friend. Better luck next time.
Those two someones who love each other (and who you love) also like you and want to date you? He’s still having a hard time computing that one. Thus: he’s up and on a run at 5:30 on a Saturday morning, taking a longer route in an attempt to clear his head. When he gets back, he takes the longest, hottest shower he can, the water pounding the tense muscles in his back until it runs cold.
It’s been more than three weeks and it’s still not computing. Then again, if he’s being totally honest, which he’s trying his hardest to do lately, he’s put a whole lot of effort into not thinking about it.
First, he avoided having the conversation by inviting Guerin to the UNM biomed lecture when he’s sure Liz would have loved to go with him. Which was not a terrible decision in retrospect, because it gave him time to get to know him, and Kyle will never say it out loud, but Guerin’s actually a cool guy.
(Technically, he supposes, he first avoided having the conversation by fleeing--well, no, okay, strategically retreating--to Alex’s to regroup almost as soon as Max and Liz told him how they felt. But that’s just semantics at this point, really.)
Then, he spent almost all of his free time for the next week and a half with Alex and Michael, watching superhero movies under the guise of getting Alex up to speed on the MCU. Which was not totally necessary, but it did provide a convenient excuse for his evenings and weekends to suddenly be too busy for him to hang out or meet up with Liz and Max, which had sort of been becoming the norm before.
All of this to say, it’s been a few weeks, and he’s out of reasons he can’t get together with them to have a Conversation, but he’s still not 100% sure of his own feelings on the situation as a whole. Ergo, an anxious night spent tossing and turning and an absurdly early morning jog to loosen up his tense muscles.
He squints at himself in the mirror above his sink as he brushes his teeth, cool water dripping from his damp hair down his neck to wet the collar of his t-shirt. “Ge’ i’ ‘ogeder, dude,” he garbles out around his toothbrush, then rolls his eyes at his own idiocy. He spits and rinses, then leans closer to the mirror. “You can’t avoid them forever.”
Heart pounding, he nods to himself and exits the bathroom, lifting his wrist to check his watch as he does. Not even 7:30 yet. Probably too early to text them on a Saturday, right? So he should just...not text them. And if he happens to forget altogether…
A voice that sounds suspiciously like Guerin pipes up in the back of his mind with, “Just text them already, you chickenshit. Pull the bandaid off and get it over with. You’ve already put it off long enough. Dumbass.”
He nods to acknowledge that imaginary Guerin may be right and heaves out a sigh as he pulls his phone out. Before he can question himself or talk himself out of it, he sends the text.
[To: Max, Liz] (7:24 am): You guys busy today?
He puts the phone face down on his bed and leaves the room, letting out a slow breath as he walks to the kitchen.
He makes himself coffee, and as it’s brewing, he takes out some eggs, cheese, and a variety of bright veggies. He takes his time chopping the peppers and onions into precise squares, then he grates the cheese fresh onto his plate. He doctors his coffee to his exact standards and whisks his eggs carefully so they get just the right amount of fluffy. He takes his time cooking his omelette, heating it slowly over the flame and adding small chunks of veggies and cheese at a time to create just the right consistency. It is, without a doubt, the most beautiful and well-crafted breakfast omelette he has ever cooked for himself, but by the time he’s sitting at his kitchen counter, spearing the first bite onto his fork, mouth salivating from the delicious aroma, he is unable to enjoy it.
His heart is still racing, and his eyes keep straying down the hall to his bedroom. His fingers twitch from trying to reach for his phone. Finally, he lets out a combination sigh/groan and abandons his perfect breakfast for the frightening prospect of actually having a conversation with Max and Liz about all of them...being together.
It’s a quick walk back down to his room. He swipes up the phone and checks it as he walks back to the kitchen.
[From: Liz] (7:37 am): Not really. You?
He sighs and closes his eyes, using the edge of his phone to rub hard at the spot between his eyebrows.
[To: Max, Liz] (7:54 am): Same.
This time, the illusory voice belongs to Alex. “You’re an idiot. It’s just a conversation, Valenti.” He grumbles but has to acknowledge the point, even if imaginary Alex is mocking him, which really just means he’s mocking himself.
[To: Max, Liz] (7:55 am): Lunch later?
He puts the phone face down next to his plate this time and takes a bite of his eggs. Two bites later it buzzes, clinking gently into his coffee mug, and Kyle starts to cut another bite, but ultimately decides to put himself out of his misery as quickly as possible.
[From: Liz] (7:58 am): Yes. Where would you like to go? We have food here at Max’s…
His eyes widen, because a repeat of three weeks ago does not sound like the smartest plan. Also, he has to take a moment because he figured they were probably together this morning, but Liz confirming it like that… He can’t help but think about them lying in bed next to each other, her phone held up between them as they read his messages, talking over what to type back as they exchange loving glances, the sheet shifting down their bodies as they smile at each other and trade quiet kisses and nudge each other playfully--
He jumps when the phone buzzes in his hand and another text comes in.
[From: Liz] (8:01 am): Or we could go to the Crashdown? If you’d be more comfortable with that?
His first instinct--after he lets out a slow breath to calm his racing heart--is to say yes, because it’s comfortable, and it’s public. Having the conversation at one of their houses feels too...intimate. But he hesitates because the diner is definitely not neutral ground, and this feels like the kind of conversation where they should all have relatively even footing.
[To: Max, Liz] (8:02 am): What time does Maria open the Wild Pony on Saturdays?
It’s not the most neutral, but at least he doesn’t have to worry about having this conversation somewhere Arturo Ortecho could come running out of the kitchen, wielding a giant knife and yelling at him about corrupting his daughter and her boyfriend.
He groans and leans forward to rest his head on the counter, only looking up again when his phone buzzes with her response.
[From: Liz] (8:05 am): Meet you there at 1?

The parking lot is empty when he gets there at a quarter to one, and that does not help his anxiety. Still, he walks up and checks the door to find it open, though the sign next to it says they don’t open until two on Saturdays.
Maria’s behind the bar, doing inventory by the looks of it. “Hey,” he says, hovering near the door still. “You’re not open yet?”
She looks up and shakes her head even as she waves him in. “No, but Liz said you guys needed to meet here at one, so I came in a little early to get some things done before I have to clear out for you.”
Kyle groans as he steps up to the bar. “I’m so sorry. I asked her if the bar was open for lunch and she just told me to meet them here at one. If I had known…”
Maria waves off his apology. “Don’t worry about it. You’ll really only have a half an hour though before my openers come in. Will that be enough time for whatever it is you guys need to talk about?”
He sits down and rubs his hand over his face. “I have no idea, but it was never going to be enough time, so don’t worry about it. I appreciate you letting us use your bar though.”
Her eyebrows rise and she puts down her clipboard. “What the hell is going on, Kyle? Your stress levels are ridiculous.”
He twitches and looks at her in surprise. “Liz didn’t tell you?” She shakes her head and he exhales slowly. “She and Max...asked me out?”
There’s a beat of silence before she says, bewildered, “And you’re coming here for your date?”
Kyle lets out a burst of laughter and shakes his head. “No, no. They asked, and I said I needed some time to think about it. They gave me three weeks, and now it’s time to...discuss the situation.”
She nods and picks up her clipboard again. “You’re freaking out a little, huh?” He lifts his hand and makes a so-so motion, to which she rolls her eyes. “What’s the deal? You’re not into Max?”
He shakes his head. “No, I am very much into Max.”
She turns her back to him to count the bottles on the shelf behind the bar. “And we all know you’ve liked Liz since high school.”
He squirms in his seat and shakes his head. “Do you have to say it like that?”
She glances over her shoulder at him and says, “Say it like what?”
He shrugs. “Like I’ve been hung up on her for a decade. It’s not like that. Sure, we have a history, but…”
“But what?”
“But,” he says slowly, biting his lip as he thinks of how to say it. “We’re both different from who we were in high school. We are all, actually,” he admits. “It’s like I fell in love with her again, not that I was still in love with her. You know?”
Maria turns back to him and lets out a low whistle. “Damn, Valenti. That was smooth, and very romantic.” He shrugs and her lips twitch like she’s fighting a smile. “What’s the issue then?”
He lets out a slow breath. “Dating a friend is already fraught with complications. Dating two friends at the same time?” He lets out a low whistle and shakes his head. “Could be disastrous, if it doesn’t end well.”
She shrugs and leans in to rest her arms on the bar. “True, but what if it doesn’t?” At his questioning look she rolls her eyes and clarifies, “End.”
He has no coherent response to that, so he sits and mulls it over while he waits for Liz and Max. Maria’s right. As disastrous as their situation could be if it does end, there is still the possibility of things going well and staying that way. He’d been so freaked out thinking about potential negative ramifications that he’d completely forgotten to consider the upside.
Spending more time with them, together and apart. Date nights. Kissing Liz again. Kissing Max for the first time. Bickering with Max over cupcake recipes, and then having the option of shutting him up with a kiss. Being allowed to reach across the couch and tickle Liz in that spot on her ribs that makes her nose scrunch up even as she laughs and bats his hand away.
His brain sort of short-circuits when he starts thinking about sleeping with them, together at the same time, so it’s probably a good thing Maria throws a towel at his head and says, “Liz’s just outside. I can feel her cautious optimism all the way from here. Get it together, please, and stop thinking all those mushy thoughts. It’s kind of nauseating.”
He whips around on his stool to watch Liz walk in, carrying two bags from the Crashdown. “Hey,” she says, giving him a small smile as she slowly enters the bar. “Hey, Maria,” she nods behind him.
Maria waves and says, “Hey. And that’s my cue to leave. Openers should be coming in a little bit, but I told them to leave you guys alone. Text me later?” Her tone is no-nonsense, and Liz does not hesitate to salute her; a response and a promise.
They face each other again after Maria leaves. “Hi,” he says. His anxiety, which he’s sure had been at record highs for the last three weeks, this morning in particular, seems to be dissipating the longer he looks at her. She’s not wearing the red dress from a few weeks ago, thank goodness, but jeans and a t-shirt. She’s dressed for a casual discussion, not a seduction.
Her smile widens and she tilts her head to a round table nearby. “Want to help me set this up?” She lifts the two bags and wiggles them in front of him. “I left the drinks in the car, but Max can grab them on his way in.”
He snags one of the bags and opens it to pull out napkins and to go boxes. “Where is he?”
Liz opens one box after another and sets them evenly around the table. “We drove separate. I wanted to spend some time with my dad this morning, and Max said he had a quick errand to run.” Following her lead, Kyle places napkins next to the boxes, sneaking behind the bar to grab utensils. As they finish setting the table, she says, “He should be here soon.”
They sit down and Liz says, “Tell me about the lecture. Michael said you guys came up with some new ideas?”
He launches into some of the theories he and Guerin had come up with based on what they heard in the lecture, and a few minutes later, Max walks in carrying the drink tray. “Hey,” he nods to them as he walks over. “Don’t let me interrupt,” he says, passing out drinks and taking his own seat.
Kyle nods, heart racing again, and finishes his explanation. Liz nods along, but his eyes keep straying over to Max, who is fidgeting in his seat. Oddly, his discomfort calms Kyle’s racing heart a little. Finally, he has to take pity on him, so he turns his attention over to Max completely and says, “What’s up?”
Liz turns her attention to Max too, and he starts to blush a little, which Kyle finds wildly adorable. He’s so fucked.
Max clears his throat and holds out a cylindrical silver canister. “This is for you,” he says, his fingers brushing Kyle’s as he reaches out to take it.
Kyle looks down at the label and his eyes widen when he sees what it is. Back in med school, he’d frequented a local cafe that had the best coffee he’d ever had the pleasure of consuming. He’d mentioned it to Max maybe once, a few months back, when he was lamenting the coffee he and Liz were forced to drink from the hospital cafeteria. Now here he is, three months later, holding a canister of those coffee beans, courtesy of Max Evans.
“What? How did you...? What?” he says, mouth gaping in shock.
Max shrugs and his blush persists. “I know you really liked their coffee, so I tracked down the location and asked them where they got their beans. It wasn’t too difficult, really.”
Kyle is still staring at him, totally dumbfounded, and Max bites his lip in worry.
God, he is so. Totally. Fucked.
He smiles and shakes his head. “This is amazing. Thank you, Max.”
Max nods and looks down at his food, lips twitching.
And then Kyle has a thought. “Wait,” he says, the gears turning in his head, and Max looks up at him again. Kyle studies him for a second and says, “Max, is this a courting gift?”
Max immediately flushes and says, “Oh my god,” while Liz bursts into hysterical giggles.
Kyle kicks his foot gently and meets his eyes. “Thank you,” he says again, quiet and sincere. Then he looks between them, Liz beaming at them and Max still flushing beautifully, and he says, “How do you guys want to do this?”

2K Games has revealed the first batch of playable characters for the upcoming WWE 2K19 video game via a Facebook live stream hosted by Rusev, Lana, and Raw Tag Team Champions The B-Team, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas.
The live stream was the first in a series that will reveal the entire roster for the game that will be released this coming October. The next batch of characters will be revealed one week from today

The night they’re supposed to have their third date, Michael shows up at Alex’s to find him and Valenti cozying up on the porch swing together. Fucking great.
Daisy jumps out of the truck behind him as he’s getting out and bolts immediately for Valenti, barking like mad until she jumps into his lap and he wraps himself around her. “What’re you doing here, Daze?” he says as he buries his head in her neck.
Michael strides over and raises an eyebrow in question at Alex, who is rubbing Valenti’s back soothingly. Alex frowns as he looks down at his watch and says, “I’m sorry. I lost track of time and forgot to text you.”
Michael shrugs and waves him off. “What’s going on, Valenti?” he says, tone long-suffering, but he sits down on the ground so he can meet Kyle’s eyes.
Valenti groans and shakes his head. “Your brother is a menace, and Liz is a menace. Together, they’re a nightmare.”
“Ah,” he says, grinning. “They finally asked you out, huh?”
Valenti groans again and hides his eyes in Daisy’s fur. Alex’s eyebrows raise in surprise and he says, “You knew about this?”
Michael shrugs. “Max and I had a bi awakening-type talk a while back, then he told me and Iz a couple weeks ago that they were going to ask Valenti out. That’s about it.”
Kyle turns his face so he can glare at Michael while still nuzzling Daisy. “Thanks for the warning. I know we’re not exactly besties, but I would have liked to have known I was walking into a seduction when I went over for dinner tonight.”
Michael’s eyebrows shoot up. “A seduction? Max? Bullshit.”
Alex coughs quietly, drawing Michael’s gaze to his small smile, but before he can say anything Kyle blurts, somewhat hysterically, “He was wearing his uniform!”
Michael rears back, nose scrunching in disgust. “Oh God, don’t...”
But Kyle keeps going. “His ass was on display in those pants! And his shoulders and back, tapering down to that waist?! I don’t even have a uniform kink!”
Michael groans and covers his ears with his hands, half burying his face in his raised knees. “Stop, please.” He can see Alex grinning widely, his hand still on Kyle’s back as he soothes him through his crisis.
“And Liz!” Kyle continues, oblivious. “She was wearing this gorgeous red dress, with her legs just, just...there! You know?” He finally focuses his dazed look back on Michael. “What else would you call that?”
“Something I never needed to hear in my entire life?” Michael offers. “Please don’t talk that way about Max or Liz to me ever again. I may never recover.”
Kyle swallows and nods once. Daisy sits up to lick his cheek, then jumps down to settle on the porch next to Michael. “Sorry. I just...was thrown for a loop and I didn’t…” He sits back and looks Michael up and down, half stretched out as he is in front of them on the porch, then over to Alex. “Shit, did I interrupt date night?”
Alex opens his mouth to answer but Michael beats him to it, shaking his head. “Don’t worry about it, man.” Then, against his better judgment, but because Valenti means something important to Max, Liz, and Alex, he says, “Did you get a chance to eat before the seduction started in earnest?”
Kyle shrugs. “Not really? We were in the middle of eating our salads when Max blurted out that they wanted to date me, and I left for some space to think before the chicken was ready.” Michael snorts because, yeah, that sounds like Max.
Michael locks eyes with Alex and raises his eyebrows in question. Alex’s lips twitch, but he rolls his eyes and nods his head towards the front door. Michael nods, claps his hands together, and says, “Alright. I’ll start on dinner while you guys sort this out. Come on, Daisy!” He stands up and starts heading for the door, Daisy trotting behind.
“Wait,” Valenti says. “I’ll go. You don’t have to--”
Michael flips him off from over his shoulder as he continues into the house, saying, “Shut up, Valenti.” When he digs into Alex’s fridge he takes out ingredients for a dinner for three.

A few days later he’s sitting on a bench in the park with Alex, laughing at possibly the dumbest joke in all of existence, but it came from Alex, so he loves it. His phone buzzes with a text that makes him freeze in place when he pulls it out of his pocket.
“What is it?” Alex says, eyes darting between the phone and Michael’s eyes.
Michael makes an uncertain sound in his throat and tilts his head a little. “I’m not sure.” He holds the phone out for Alex to read.
[From: Fuck That Guy] (5:54 pm): Are you free this Friday, Guerin?
Alex laughs and rolls his eyes as he passes the phone back to Michael. “I’m no genius, but it sounds like maybe he wants to hang out on Friday.”
Michael narrows his eyes and says, “With me?”
Alex leans over to look at the message again and makes a sound of confirmation. “Guerin is your name, last time I checked.”
“Why?” he says, shaking his head. He can’t think of anything he’s done that would possess Valenti to want to spend time with him.
Alex rolls his eyes and points down to his phone. “You could, I don’t know, ask him?”
Michael makes a sound of disbelief even as he takes his advice.
[To: Fuck That Guy] (5:59 pm): Why? What do you want?
Valenti replies quickly. Suspiciously quickly.
[From: Fuck That Guy] (6:00 pm): There’s a biomed lecture Friday afternoon at UNM. Thought you might be interested. [Link: UNM School of Medicine Upcoming Events]
“What?” Michael says, shaking his head even as he opens the link to look at the details of the lecture.
“What?” Alex says, sounding close to laughing.
Michael grunts and waves him off as he replies.
[To: Fuck That Guy] (6:02 pm): You do know your girlfriend has multiple biomed degrees, right? Why don’t you take her?
“He wants to invite me to a lecture on Friday at UNM?” he tells Alex, baffled.
Alex just hums noncommittally while Michael watches Kyle type his reply.
[From: Fuck That Guy] (6:04 pm): 1) she’s not my girlfriend. We haven’t all had a chance to get together since...you know.
Michael does know. His third date with Alex was interrupted by ‘you know’.
[From: Fuck That Guy] (6:05 pm): 1a) I don’t want to be stuck in a car with her for six hours when we haven’t had a chance to settle things
“But you don’t mind being stuck in a car with me for six hours?” Michael says to his phone, then he glances up at Alex. “When the fuck did we get that friendly?”
Alex just smiles and shakes his head at him, leaning over to watch the progress of the conversation.
[From: Fuck That Guy] (6:06 pm): 2) you are the only other person I know who would be interested in the lecture. So I just thought I’d ask.
More bubbles pop up, indicating he has more to say, and Michael waits a long time for a short message.
[From: Fuck That Guy] (6:09 pm): You don’t have to come if you don’t want to.
Michael looks over at Alex and sees him looking back, eyebrows raised. “You gonna go?”
Michael narrows his eyes at him. “Did you know about this?”
Alex makes a humming sound and says, “He may have asked me if I thought it would be a good idea.”
“Why?”
Alex shrugs. “He wants to get to know you better? But he also doesn’t want to spend six hours alone in a car with someone who legitimately hates him, so he was feeling you out through me.”
Michael makes a face at that. “But...why?”
Alex rolls his eyes and lays his hand on Michael’s thigh. “Look, do you want to go or not? He’s not going to be offended if you say no, but you should probably let him know one way or the other.”
Michael narrows his eyes, searching Alex’s face for his thoughts on the matter, but he’s giving him a bland smile. His ‘I’m telling you I don’t have an opinion on this matter, but I definitely have an opinion on this matter’ smile. Michael hates that smile. “Fine,” he says, looking back down at his phone.
[To: Fuck That Guy] (6:14 pm): Pick me up at 8.

They’re almost an hour into their drive and they’ve exchanged a dozen words at the most: Valenti’s cheerful morning greeting and Michael’s short grunt hello as he slipped into the passenger seat of Kyle’s car.
Valenti seems to have gotten the hint that Michael is not a morning person and has left him to drink his coffee in peace. The only sound to disrupt the quiet is the low hum of the radio and Valenti’s occasional tap-tap-tap on the steering wheel along to the beat. It would normally irritate the shit out of Michael, but Valenti’s taste in music isn’t terrible, so he’s mostly fine.
There’s a break in the music while ads play and Michael figures it’s as good a time as any to dive into whatever’s going on with him and Valenti today. “Why did you really invite me to go with you today?”
Valenti glances over at him and shrugs. “You mean aside from what I already said?” Michael nods and Valenti turns his gaze back to the road. “You’re important to Alex, who is important to me.” There’s a long pause before he clears his throat and says, a little more quietly, “You’re also important to Liz and Max.”
Michael crosses his arms over his chest and smirks over at him. “So is this like, you trying to get my permission or something?”
Kyle scoffs and sends him a look that says, ‘As if,’ before focusing on the road again. “I just thought it would be nice to get to know each other a little better, since we have so many people in common.”
Michael shrugs and says, “I guess that’s fair. Where do you want to start?”

The rest of the drive to UNM is Michael’s literal definition of hell, and he’s had a deep-abiding fear of alien vivisection since he was a child. Finding a topic to talk about is excruciating, mostly because they don’t have a lot of overlapping interests. There is also the fact that Valenti is trying so damn hard to be friendly that it makes Michael want to wreck the car to put them both out of their misery.
They hit on a decent enough topic just as they are getting to campus and it takes them through their lunch and up to the start of the lecture.
“He’s Steve’s oldest friend, literally! He deserves to--”
“What, so just because Sam only became friends with him once he was out of the ice, that makes their friendship somehow less?” Michael interrupts, glaring at Kyle.
Valenti rolls his eyes. “That’s not what I meant. I just meant that, with Steve...gone, Bucky deserves to carry that link to him now. He’s been through a lot, and he should have something of Steve’s to carry with him through the next fight.”
Michael turns sideways in his seat to better face him when he says, “Yeah, Bucky’s been through 70 years of torture at the hands of HYDRA; don’t you think he deserves to live out the rest of his life without Cap’s legacy weighing him down?”
Valenti’s eyes narrow and he shakes his head. “So the shield ‘weighs Bucky down’, but it doesn’t overshadow Sam and the name he’s made for himself as an Avenger in his own right? How does that make sense?” The lights in the auditorium start to dim.
Michael lowers his voice. “It’s different for Sam. There’s less negative baggage associated with the shield for him. It’s more like...carrying on a legacy.”
Kyle nods his head in agreement and whispers, “I’ll agree there’s less baggage for Sam, but Bucky deserves the chance to…” He winces and continues with, “I don’t want to say ‘atone’ for the things he did as the Winter Soldier---”
Michael shakes his head, “Yeah, because none of that was really his fault, but I get what you’re saying. To him, he has a lot to make up for. He’s still carrying around some of that super unnecessary guilt.”
“Exactly!” Kyle says, smiling over at him.
Michael’s lips twitch, but he just shakes his head and turns back in his seat to face the front of the auditorium as someone walks up on stage. He can’t resist getting out one last thing before the lecture starts, though, so he leans closer to Kyle and hisses, “But I still think Steve made the right choice.”
Kyle elbows him hard in the ribs and shakes his head, biting his lip to keep from replying. Michael grins and turns his attention up to the speaker.

They don’t actually get back to their argument because they spend the ride back to Roswell discussing the lecture and brainstorming ideas they can use in their research into the aliens’ biology. Kyle drops him off at Alex’s and they spend long enough in the driveway, still talking, that Alex steps out onto the porch with Daisy to wait for him.
Michael says goodbye and hops out, waving as Kyle backs out. He greets Alex with a quick kiss and says, “Thanks for watching Daisy for me.”
Alex’s lips quirk and he shrugs. “No problem. Did you have fun?”
Michael pauses in the middle of shaking his head in an automatic reply. “Yes?”
Alex clears his throat and suppresses his smile. “You don’t seem too sure about that.”
“Mostly I’m just shocked I couldn’t say ‘no’ outright,” Michael admits, wrapping his arm across Alex’s lower back to lead him back into the house.
Alex laughs and leans into him. “Well, I’m glad you didn’t have a terrible time today, Michael.”

[From: Valenti] (9:48 pm): Dude. We need to rectify this situation immediately.
[To: Valenti] (9:50 pm): We could do Phase 2 in one long day, but Phase 3 would take a weekend.
[From: Valenti] (9:51 pm): We could do a movie a night for the next week and do Phase 3 next weekend?
[To: Valenti] (9:53 pm): I’ll talk to Alex and let you know.
[From: Valenti] (9:55 pm): Sounds good.
