Before I ramble, Chimes - @wintersdayzine, our 100-page fanzine for Guild Wars 2, is closing its preorders in TWO HOURS. Yes, two hours (or, alternatively, if I get caught in a living story episode, it’ll be when I finish it... this mod is just getting to the sparkly new content). We have FOURTEEN books left.

That said, there are few things in life that can be compared to doing what you love, collaborating with so many talented individuals, and being allowed to give back to a community that has given so much to you. With @guildwars2, I managed to moderate this fanzine to accomplish all of these things; I was incredibly honored by the reception and warmth this project was met by with both the staff at ArenaNet and by the community -- this game has been a home, and a community I could never forget.

For this project, my individual piece was a collaboration with @landylachs, and I can’t speak more highly of working with her. From the little details (we spent a fair amount of time in the tiny facts you’ll never see) to the big picture, it was incredible to be bring this lovely illustrated short story to life with her. She’s both my friend and inspiration, and I hope you enjoy what we’ve put together.

So excited at how my GW2 character, Tearnanog turned out.  @landylachs is SO talented!

Here’s a preview from the short story I’m writing, illustrated by the ever-amazing @landylachs​. It’s been absolutely incredible working with her again and this zine has definitely been one of my favorite projects of all time. As a mod, all of the contributors of @wintersdayzine​ couldn’t be better to work with.

SALES OPEN IN A WEEK. In the mean time, time to get a nostalgia kick out of one of our favorite sylvari.

When he opened his eyes and pushed himself into a sitting position, he found himself surrounded by a blanket of darkness. It wasn’t surprising with the eerie silence floating around him, oddly comforting with its familiarity. Within this cage, the lack of light was absolute - enough that he couldn’t see his hands, how close the walls were, what he was resting in. It could have been a threat as easily as a promise for unreachable treasures.

Sight was a fixable problem, and he was grateful that the dark wasn’t his enemy. With his emotions in check, manipulating his glow was easy, a process that could be bent to his will when his sight wasn’t clouded. While he didn’t know where he was, he found that his natural sylvari ability was still under his control. With a focused thought, the teal shine flickered to life, tinging the sides of his cage in a cool hue, and he narrowed his eyes at the walls he found himself in.

The pod he was in resonated an echoed memory, one that was an odd combination of those from the forests of Tyria and those that had been part of the jungle dragon’s wake. Curiosity winning over logic, he extended his hand to touch the clear film that lined the inside of larger petals. From the simple connection, the lights that were on his skin surged, rushing forward to spread across the translucent seal, and the pod again went dark as the lights burst out of existence.

Before he had enough time to panic, his glow reappeared on the walls in front of him, familiar lettering floating on the inner walls, spinning a tale he only partly followed. In the years that had passed, his Orrian had become weaker - a study that Trahearne had always been keen to teach him. With the words floating tauntingly across his eyes, he cursed not keeping up with it since that time, but it hadn’t felt right to continue it without his friend leading the way. It’d been just long enough since then that words escaped him, but he knew enough to piece together what the pod was telling him.

Malyck knew he’d found his way into the Dream.

#Inktober Day 1: Arquel

This is one of @landylachs' OCs, named Arquel. I asked her if I could borrow some of her marvelous characters, and I was blown away by the care she took to create each and every one of them. I'll be trying my hand at #inktober digitally this year. The reason being is that I'll be on the road for a fair few days this year, coupled with spending most of my time at work or at a coffee shop. Traveling ink isn't as feasible, but my compromise is an inking pen digitally adapted, and forbidding myself to erase. Let me tell you: it is agonizing seeing mistakes! But, anyway, it was a true joy painting this guy. I really hope she showcases more of him in the future!
