funny thing is I don't really have any interest in hoarding knowledge or resources for myself in any way, I'm just bad at publishing stuff because I feel like that'd require a bit more stringent quality control than what I might expect of something made largely for my own use.
sometimes I think maybe I should set up something like a google drive or a git or something to just throw my personal- and work-in-progress stuff for people who are interested, but I dunno what limits for space or bandwidth or anything are like.
like I'm sure some people would possibly find the ColorSet unpacker python script useful?? It kinda sucks through and I want to make a better version of it and maybe one that could work as a standalone executable instead? and possibly a packer counterpart to the unpacker?? But also I keep thinking like "would this even be useful to anyone lmao??"
in theory you could probably make some kind of art program plugin that does all of this for you - even the bit with loading actual colorset information into layered colorset pairs, but I mean that's a lot of effort and I still largely use a 20+ year old version of Paint Shop Pro myself so...

…also for the record if you hear me say “yeah use [x thing] instead of curseforge’s launcher” or hear people complaining about curseforge as a company, that’s NOT the same thing as forge, the mod loader. or neoforge, which I think a lot of forge projects are slowly switching to? that’s a different thing. because this is the modded minecraft community that ALSO has a pretty large and famous community split, being the forge/fabric split, and there’s ALSO a load of different reasons and community drama behind it, although that’s more typical open-source project drama than curseforge/modrinth, which is less “two projects with different philosophies” type developer drama and more “the open source developers got tetchy about a for-profit company not responding to their needs” drama (BROADLY. I’M NOT IN THESE COMMUNITIES ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY SUMMARIZE THE MANY THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON BEHIND THE SCENES HERE. I AM JUST TAXONOMIZING BASED ON THE TYPICAL FLAVORS OF PROGRAMMER DRAMA.)
so like. yeah forge and curseforge are two different things, the modded minecraft community loves its “someone should make a standard to unify all the standards” “we now have three standards.” type dramas, please use a launcher that isn’t the curseforge launcher so you don’t have to have ads served to you every time you play minecraft.
bonus points though: one of the big elements of the curseforge/modrinth split is that sodium is only on modrinth (due to security concerns with curseforge allowing mods and packs of extremely similar names to sodium’s and refusing to take moderator action on that, if I remember right?). sodium is the recommendation you’ll normally get given if you want a performance mod for fabric instead of forge. there are multiple mods to put in addition to sodium to make it have optifine’s features and rampant debate as to which is better if you’re like, just playing vanilla (I’m on team sodium/rubidium for the record). there are also mods to port sodium to forge, bringing us full circle. this is because programmers never change,

Apollo Justice x reader. Head cannons for relationship
APOLLO JUSTICE x READER | written by MOD clever
warnings; A few cuss words here and there but that's it-
headcanons for Apollo Justice in a relationship...
Tumblr media
Ace Attorney; Apollo Justice
First thing to know about this man- He doesn’t fall in love easily. But when he does? Man, he falls hard. He’s a dedicated and passionate individual, someone who isn’t open to dating someone unless he knows that they’re the right one.
You have to be someone he’s known for a long time. He’s been through a lot, and even though he continues to say that he’s fine, you need to be someone who can actually see through his facade and care for him as a person. Though he’s stubborn, he’ll be practically putty in your hands.
Apollo appreciates intellectual stimulation and enjoys engaging in deep conversations with his partner. (Taxes. /J) He enjoys being able to just have a full conversation with his partner, either it be about a trial coming up, or something random that you enjoy. With that being said, Apollo is also a great listener and a reliable source of emotional support. He genuinely cares about his partner's well-being and will lend a listening ear whenever they need to vent or seek advice. (Even if he's completely awkward at it at first.)
Dates? You mean spending time at a crime scene trying to figure out what the hell happened with Apollo's secret younger sister? Yeah-
Seriously though, Trucy definitely has third wheeled y'all a lot. So has Phoenix. Phoenix absolutely will tease Apollo in front of you.
"This is (Y/N), the person I was talking about earlier." "Oh, couldn't you have found anyone better?" "Mr. Wright-!?" "I was talking to (Y/N)-"
Isn’t exactly that big on PDA. He gets flustered easily, face- Hell, entire body going red at any type of affection from his partner. Grab him by the face and pepper his face with kisses. Hold his hand and shout with him that you two are fine. Let him know how much he is valued, admired, and loved so you can make his heart soar.
Leave small hand-written notes for Apollo to find throughout the day- You don’t understand how much that will brighten his mood and make him feel special. These notes could include words of encouragement, affectionate messages, or even playful inside jokes. At some point, he’ll start writing little notes back, and it’ll become a little thing between the two of you. (You two have a little jar of unopened notes for each other for whenever either of you need a pick-me-up.)
Apollo appreciates whenever his partner cheers him on in court. Though, most of the time he’ll miss the sighting of you, and ends up a bit surprised whenever he sees you after court, waiting for him- But just the realization that you had been there, so excited for him to reveal the truth and provide justice has him absolutely melting.
Loves cooking with you. Is he a bit horrible at it? … Yes- BUT HEAR ME OUT- The guy is a romantic at heart, and longs for a domestic life after everything he’s been through. He loves the idea of standing next to you and learning how to make something with you. He knows how to make everyday things, like- he knows how to make eggs and such. But anything past that is stuff he needs help with.
His siblings give him the teasings of his life whenever you’re around. Even if it’s ever so subtle- Or completely obvious- (COUGH COUGH- RAYFA-) Though, prepare to be completely confused when Apollo’s siblings start speaking Khura'inese. (Don’t worry, Apollo’s confused too- He barely knows anything in Khura’In tongue-)
Old-School kid. He has a vintage record player that he… Doesn’t use that much- He just loves it too much to give it away. He loves taking Polaroid photos and putting them into a little scrapbook (Most photos are of you but shh-).
He tries to surprise you with dates, yet they never really seem to work in his favor due to how chaotic the people are in his life. He wants to be extravagant, yet his work schedule (and wallet-) tells him ‘Absolutely not.’ So dates usually end up with just watching random movies while helping Apollo work on an upcoming case.
You must like Mikeko. Mikeko must like you. I don’t make the rules, he does. Genuinely, he loves his cat so much, and if you aren’t willing to get along with his cat, then there will be a bit of a problem. Of course, if the two of you get along, he’s already getting the wedding ring- /J
Apollo pays attention to the small details and remembers the things that matter to his partner. Whether it's their favorite snack, a specific interest or hobby, or a meaningful memory, he shows that he's invested in their happiness by remembering and incorporating these details into their relationship. Though, he does this absolutely unintentionally. The guy doesn’t even realize he does this. Must be the lawyer in him-
Strong man /J I wouldn’t call him *that* strong, his arms are though- Has pretty buff arms- Strong upper-body strength. This is another thing he doesn’t quite realize? It’s quite funny watching him realize this over-and-over again, to be honest. That being said, he definitely will accidentally pick you up if you hug him.
Lawyer- Lawyer business- Meaning his schedule is usually filled to the brim with upcoming cases and such. It’s a bit difficult to find some quality time with him- It gets a tad worse after the whole Spirit of Justice arc. Just be there for him, ya’ll.
Isn’t used to having someone be there for him 24/7. He’s lived a tough life, lost many people along the way of becoming an attorney, he’s used to the concept of loss. He’d be so scared of losing you as well, seeing how horrible his luck was around this certain topic. He’ll shout that he’s fine, when in reality, most of the time he isn’t. Hold him, and make sure he knows you’re not going anywhere.

Hi! I'm sorry to bother you, but I've been reading your meta posts about Izanami and Souzai Daigaku and the like and you mention the game script often, do you have a link to the dump or to a big doc containing it? I only saw your Izanami one and it's fascinating, I'd really like to see more! I try to take screenshots of things like minor NPC dialogue but I miss a lot of stuff.
Also, while I'm here I'd like to ask, do you have a link to the Persona 4 Visualives? I know you uploaded them to your YouTube channel (and I'm very grateful 🥰) but I mean the actual files. I can only find dead torrents of them...
Either way, thank you very much for all the thoughts and reading material! #TeamIzanami
HAII HAIII HAIIII /waves violently and i trip on my feet and eat my spreadsheets/ imso happy youre here
i'd be SO HONORED to share my resources and im SO HAPPY SOMEONE'S SO INTERESTED ENOUGH TO ASK  !!!
I've gathered and curated my own resources throughout the years, and I'll be sharing the original mirrors of where I got them. Of course, if any of these links are dead, I always have my own copies so you can ask me again WAHAHA
SCRIPT DUMP
ShrineFox

https://drive.google.com/file/d/113DuAlmIqb8AU4xBYNuU5FDxPP3mVX67/view
If you're not already familiar, ShrineFox has been a mod dev in the Persona scene for a while, right now though they're working on a lot of other projects too hehe. They had this "text search" app for a while where you could find text from entire script dumps of a game they had on hand, mostly the Persona games. Right now, the app's taken down, but the whole dumps have been uploaded in this Google Drive!
The _msg files are the ones you're looking for for the text n stuff. The _flow files are for the backend behavior coding and all that. These txt files are really big too, so try opening it with a source code editor like Notepad++ or Sublime Text because it might blow up a normal writer app like Word or Writer LMAO (188K LINES??)
Also, these are really the raw text dumps. There’s a learning curve to how interpret IDs and all that but you’ll get used to it, or just hit me up!

https://www.mediafire.com/file/9mkufgtde42em6v/Persona_4.txt/file
Here’s a transcript of the JP text of the base game, not Golden. It’s formatted plainly, without the raw code or IDs or anything, so it’s easier to read but hard to crosscheck with the ENG text from the first dump.
MOEL Backroom (my stuff)
kai's spreadsheet of spreadsheets (and other docs)
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18X2sR-1duXGWtQtJd5mesjrVUorjvUkOiwEjXT25Lmc/edit
Here’s my (supposedly) entire directory of my documents and spreadsheets I made throughout the years! You can take a gander if something catches your eye. I also made a summary of it and more resources on my Neocities :]

BIG SHOUTOUT TO STEAM GAMER TYSSERR FOR LITERALLY DOING ALL OF THIS MAN YOU ARE SO FUCKING REAL FOR THIS 🫶🫰🫶🫰🫶🫰
This is an entire guide for all the NPCs overworld in Inaba AND Okina, specifically a glossary for each NPC and when they actually show up. I wouldn’t know if this is really complete but it SURE IS comprehensive. If you can navigate the dumps right, you can reference that to figure out what their actual dialogue is and read it in context.

These are calendars that have the weather throughout the game, and the wiki one has events and other stuff too just for the base game. The spreadsheet is a weather calendar throughout P4G, you can make your own copy to annotate if you’d like!
SELF DUMP
If you see throughout my resources, I don’t really source some of them from anywhere else because I dumped the scripts myself! Especially the JP scripts and the Arena/Ultimax story modes.
There’s a lot to say about it considering I learned it while trying to crack into the games files myself and debugging mod files on my own LOL. Here’s a few Amicitia pages as a starting point, and you can ask me for anything else
MSG and BMD (and BF)
https://amicitia.miraheze.org/wiki/BMD
https://amicitia.miraheze.org/wiki/BF
These files contain text and dialogue and description etc etc. You can check these pages to see how to extract them with tools available. There are .BMD files in .BF files most of the time.
PM1 vs PM2 & PM3
https://amicitia.miraheze.org/wiki/PM1
PM1 has text, dialogue etc
PM2 & PM3 only found in main folder (JP assets, not the ENG nor KR nor CN asset folder) deals with environment, models, etc etc
VISUALIVE / the Evolution Direct Download Link
The moment everyone’s been waiting for !! Here’s a link to both Visualives and the bonus content, which I’ve already posted on my YouTube like you said. I will kill this link in a week or so for security purposes and my actual cloud storage. If you want it past this time though, you can always hit me up and ask me personally! I’m planning to properly host it one day, I’m just being thrown against the waves right now.
update: i've killed the link now. if anyone else needs it, you can always come to me personally!
aand that’s it! I’ve actually been writing this throughout the whole week whenever I have the time. Here’s as comprehensive as I’ll get, and thank you SOSOSO MUCH sticking around!!

terribly sorry to bother, but I've been loving your screenshots since I stumbled on your blog, and like 100% genuinely: how do you get them to look like that? Is it all done in game or is it some combo of mods & shaders? Cause every time I see a cool pose I'm just left wondering how you did it. Obviously I wouldn't ask you to make a massive tutorial just for me, but if there are any resources or general things you'd be willing to share, I'd be eternally grateful!
Hi there! Thank you for enjoying my gposes, and you're not a bother; my ask box is open to get asks after all haha
To answer your question: My gposes are not a product of the vanilla game alone. I'm slapping my explanations under a read more since it's a bit long:
Firstly, I am running reshade, an open source post-processing injector. It's a program that can (in the simplest terms) run various visual filters over a video game in real time. Most everyone I know made the jump from Gshade to reshade last year, so if you look up "reshade for ffxiv" you should be able to find a handful of tutorials. When it comes to finding presets, there are a lot of independent shader devs for ffxiv and generally a quick google search should bring you to a few. Most of the presets I use are outdated holdovers from the GShade days, and I don't know if they are available anymore; so unfortunately I can't recommend any directly, sorry!
In general, I lean towards shaders that enhance the overall brightness and vibrancy of the (imo muddy looking) default graphics. Arsay can quickly get over exposed by the in game 3 point lighting, so putting a shader that boosts the brightness overall really helps preventing that. I set up my lights in gpose at 2, put the character lighting to 100, pick a shader with a LUT that gives me the colours and brightness I want and thats usually enough. sometimes I'll hit the manual brightness in game and mess with that too. I often go into the preset of the shader and muck about with the Depth of field settings depending on what I want. An important note regarding the use of reshade: While reshade does not directly effect in game files or gameplay and it's technically not against TOS (as far as I have read), it is still highly encouraged that screenshots taken with shaders on do not have the ffxiv screenshot watermark visible. Reshade has it's own screenshot button that you can map to any key of your liking that will capture the game and the applied shaders without any watermarks. If you have an nvidia graphics card, I believe you should also have access to the geforce post-process correction tools, and could use that as well to enhance the game visuals. However, I am under the impression it's solely corrective settings (brightness/contrast, vibrancy, saturation, etc.) and you do not have the ability to adjust the depth of field setting, apply LUTs, mess with ambient occlusion, etc. Aka the more in depth rendering stuff that would make your graphic card fan go brrr. I've personally never tried the nvidia filter system so maybe that's incorrect information. Best to do independent research on that!
As well, on the occasion I will bring some screenshots into photoshop and do further, fine tuned, tonal corrections there. Generally this is only when I'm trying to achieve a look that I can't get in game and I try to keep it to a minimum. When I'm working on big photosets or comics, I'll end up doing more corrections just to make sure colours/tones/shading are consistent through out.
On to the second part of the question: the posing. I do all my posing with this tool. It is a tos crime, however it's client-side only and completely undetectable to other players. It gives you full access to character rigs and allows you to not only build your own poses, but export and import poses, outfits, props used by npcs or seen in cut scenes, and character data as well. Tons of people will upload pose files on the various mod archives for others to use, so even people who don't want to mess around with rigs can have fun with their characters. I personally love posing, and it's something I'm very comfortable doing since I have a background in 3D modelling and animation. I do believe in working smarter and not harder though, so what I tend to do is apply an in game animation cycle to my character in question that has a frame or key pose close enough to what I need, pause the animation, turn on posing, and start rotating bones. I never really looked up any tutorials myself tbh, I kinda just messed around with things and figured the tool out as I went along. That said, there are tutorials on youtube if you search for them. "Anamnesis ffxiv guide" or something along those lines should bring up good results.
Anam also gives you further camera control than what is available in game, allowing you to fine tune its position to the .001 degree. You can increase the FOV and zoom range past the typical amount. Bring your character and camera pretty much anywhere on the map too. And you can export your camera setting to use between gpose settings! It's a really great tool, though it has some quirks and can in specific instances crash your game (never change a character while fishing lol)
That's pretty much it! I know this wasn't really much of a guide, so sorry about that. Most of my gposes are a product of seeing a fuzzy image/concept in my head and messing around with various compositions, locations, lighting conditions, ect. until I bring that idea into clarity. It's hard to explain that process in ways beyond "fucking around and finding out (positive)" I suppose to anyone else reading this has specific references in mind, please pass them along to sailor-artemis ! I know being told "just google it lol" isn't super helpful but I really just tend to figure things out on my own ^^;

Custom Config Menu!
Oh boy, this one took a while to set up, but I've established a system that should make it extremely easy to render this content and customize them automatically without so much effort involved, so far it is using the modinfo.ini file that every mod utilizes to render the mod configs but it should work with custom made configs too with a few more quirks involved.
Here's what is being rendered behind the scene, its very small chunk that is transformed to interactable UI!
Tumblr media
I'm very happy with how it's going so far as I want to add a lot of quirky features to customize your own experience both for fun, safety and accessibility, I'm sounding like corpo right now but my excuse is I don't want this to get banned from the workshop first day lol it's certainly been my biggest project to date because it considers a lot of things at the same time, trying to figure out solutions for the project itself and to make have modding support so people can MOD THEIR OWN CHAT LOGS INTO THE MOD! It will be a big hype for those who want to translate the mod or add features that are related to the online party for everyone to know about!
If anything I'm more scared right now to remember documenting everything related to it, but I might as well just make it open source project.

since I've been talking about FFXIV modding, lately, a caveat on risks.
you may have heard about an infamous event in ffxiv modding where the author of GShade, a widely popular ReShade fork, got pissy about people forking their code and decided to demonstrate the risks of installing untrusted code on your computer... by pushing an update that makes GShade automatically shut down users' computers. basically torching their own mod and ejecting themselves from the mod community to make a point.
the impact on the modding scene was ultimately minor. almost all GShade shaders could be ported straight back to ReShade (the main thing that GShade added was support for reading the depth buffer, which can be turned on in ReShade). but it does illustrate that a mod scene, is, well, literally downloading code by strangers on the internet and running it, with all the dangers that entails.
one thing I like a lot about the FFXIV mod scene is that a whole lot of the development is open source - indeed, a ton of the infrastructure for distributing mods is straight up built on GitHub. the level of technical knowledge is some of the highest I've seen in a mod scene. this doesn't rule out attacks! simply being open source doesn't mean the level of code scrutiny that you would get in a high-profile open source project, with many mods being the work of a solo dev or a tiny team of very passionate nerds. it would not be difficult for a mod author to do what the author of GShade did, and push an update with an attack. but it is at least a check, and a general incentive to cooperate.
the risks are increased further by mods like Mare Synchronos which allow other people to give you a list of mods to download. Mare Synchronos does not allow arbitrary code execution, it is limited to replacing game assets and certain specific tricks like skeleton modification, but the attack surface is still present - if there's any problem in the way the asset replacer mods modify the game's memory at runtime, I'm sure it would be easy to break out and take full control of the game process.
from there, you're still limited by the privileges of the user account - FFXIV does not run as administrator. but there's still considerable scope for shenanigans.
for this reason it's kind of surprising to me that some mod authors do not publish source code. e.g. for PuppetMaster and MidiBard, a combo which is widely used by in-game performers, the github repo is literally just metadata and binaries. like, guys. it's in everyone's interest to be able to know exactly what the code is doing; if you refuse to show the source that is immediately sus. but when i started talking to modders in the scene to ask for some advice on getting started on my pie in the sky animation mod project, I was warned that people can be quite protective over the tricks they've learned, and to back up any resources I use in case they disappear at random. (be assured I am going to devlog this project in great detail like I always do lol.)
I can't really tell you where to set your acceptable risk level. for me, since everything is backed up locally and remotely, and my sensitive data is encrypted, I figure the outside risk of attacks is worth it for the chance to see peoples' custom character designs and add another layer to the game. I think the risks are considerably less than, say, downloading cracked games. but it is an attack surface you are exposing so you gotta make that call! don't go in unaware of it.

Falling Away With You | Ch. 16*
Sebastian x F!Reader and M. Rasmodius x F!Reader
Rating: Mature/Explicit
Chapter Summary: Let’s give it up for round 2!! Enjoy! >:3c
Author’s Note: Pls do not judge for the corny Legend of Zelda alternatives weunfjksdmcx. SVE continuity, and whatever
Speaking of which, y'all finally get to meet Victor! A wonderful bachelor from the SVE mod, imo.
Table of Contents + Work Summary
Check it out on ao3!
Prev | Next
“Nice to finally meet you.” The average-height (big day for short people!), Gotoroan stranger smiles warmly, reaching to shake my hand.
“Finally?” I take his hand in mine, but rather than looking at him I turn to Seb and grin. A big, goofy, punchable grin.
He rolls his eyes. “I might’ve mentioned you once or twice.”
“All good things,” Victor reassures.
I look back at him with a playful glare in my eyes. I don’t know him well enough to be an ass yet, but it’s tempting to challenge him. Interrogate him, even.
As we walk back down the hill from the train station, I’m sandwiched between the two men, but keep closer to Seb for comfort. I’d hoped he fucked the nerves out of me, but nope! They’re still there! Still just as bad with strangers as always.
While they catch up with each other, I take in the pretty surroundings, my eyes lingering on Linus. He’s sat by a small campfire outside of his tent, munching on a fish that he must’ve caught and baked over the open flame himself.
I’ve been meaning to try and talk to him, as he seems nicer than the townsfolk make him out to be, but never have the courage or the time to follow through. Maybe if I can get him alone sometime — the less people around, the better, when it comes to my social abilities — I’ll have the guts to strike up a conversation. That’s an endeavor for another day.
When we arrive back to the basement, I shuffle through my bag for the character sheets I brought along. Thankfully, they didn’t get crumpled when I abandoned them for… a more noble cause.
“What class do you want?” Seb me asks from across the room, unfolding the playing mat.
“Whatever’s available, I ain’t picky. I just can’t DM.”
“I’ve got that covered,” Victor adds.
“You usually go warrior, yeah?” Seb asks him. I’m assuming he answered with a nod, because I don’t hear a verbal follow up. “That leaves us with wizard and healer.”
“Fine, dibs on healer then.”
I don’t bother bringing the other sheets to the table, wanting to save as much judgment as possible. I skulk over, holding the paper against me like a fucking gremlin bracing onto its treasure. I’m a little worried about this, and not just because my design is corny — think: magical girl, but with a cloak on — but rather because I’ve never done a campaign in-person before. Usually they’ve been with randos on the internet. No pressure to perform with people I’ll never meet.
Victor had a figure made of his character apparently, which I enviously eyeball while Seb flips through a lined notebook for his own. I know this guy is rich but I can’t help but imagine that lil’ model costing a fortune if he commissioned it. Or maybe he made it himself?
A quiet lil “ah” sounds from across the table as Seb settles on the page he wants. Maybe it was dumb to feel embarrassed about my own OC. He just has a… collage, we’ll call it, of a generic anime guy wearing various wizard-y garments, pointy hat and all. A real Hogwarts!AU Ravenclaw!Sasuke looking motherfucker. It is truly so poorly photoshopped, and appears to be taped into place next to the (surprisingly) neatly-written stats.
I stifle a laugh, which only goes noticed by Seb, who sneers at me beneath his hair. Modern!AU Sasuke looking motherfucker…
“Ready?”
Seb and I look to the source and nod, and Victor dives right into our plot, scattering some small plastic props across the board to set the scene.
The game lasts a short few hours, and goes a lot more smoothly than I’d anticipated. Once I got into the swing of things, and rolled a few lucky 20s, I felt more comfortable with myself and my character. The three of us absolutely crushed it, too.
Victor and Seb were both downed during our final boss, and because of a pretty mediocre roll, I was only able to resurrect one. I asked them to roll for the opportunity, not really knowing who the better option of the two was – leaving up to fate, if you will. Much to Victor’s chagrin, Seb rolled higher. We won even without Victor, though, and with a good rating.
It helped that the story was influenced heavily by a mish-mosh of The Legend of Lonk plot lines. Made things easier for me to follow, and helped me know what to expect from the mobs that weren’t canon to Solarian Chronicles. I noticed it during our game, but kept quiet, not wanting to mess with the flow. Victor admitted he took some creative inspiration after we wrapped up.
“Fucking nerd,” Seb muses.
“They’re good games!”
“No, yeah, I agree,” I nod in Victor’s defense. “Lonk is a fucking masterpiece of a series.”
Seb groans while Victor excitedly asks, “Oh, you play too?!” I nod. “Which game is your favorite?” Yeees, ask me more about my hyperfixations!
“Air of the Wild, for sure.”
“That one’s so good, maybe second or third in my books. I’m personally more into Skyward Spear myself.”
“God damnit,” Seb mumbles to himself. Victor and I both ignore him.
“Did you hear they’re remaking it?”
Victor beams. “Seriously?!”
“Yeah! It might push Air of the Wild 2 back a year or, like, three , which sucks, but it should be out by Winter Star. At least, that’s what I’ve read.”
“Are they only improving the graphics, though? Or is it a full, mechanics-based remaster?”
“I dunno, I think they’re just —“
“I’m gonna order some food,” Seb quietly declares, opening up a delivery app on his phone. He saunters across the room to his bong and starts, I dunno, setting it up? I’ve never Done The Weed, I have no idea what he’s doing with that thing.
“You’re not going to offer us anything?” Victor pouts.
“Oh, now you want to pay attention to me?”
I laugh, “Are you grumpy that we’re bonding without you?”
He sits back in his stool and glares at me while taking a hit. “‘Course not.”
“Fucking tsundere.”
Victor starts making grabby hands at the bong, and Sebastian reluctantly passes it over. Coughing through his words after a long rip, he asks, “Wanna get that greasy stuff you Ferngillians try to pass off as Gotoroan food?”
Seb shrugs, crinkling his nose slightly. “I was feeling pizza.”
They both turn to me, expecting me to make the decision. “Fuck. Uhh. Gotoroan sounds good.” I give Seb an apologetic shrug.

Victor fell asleep on the couch promptly after downing a full carton of fried rice, because munchies I guess? I dunno. I was having fun getting to know him, but semi-private time with Seb is nice. Super welcomed, honestly. My social battery was starting to feel drained, and Sebastian knows how to charge that shit right back up somehow.
We’re leaning on each other on his bed, with our backs against the wall, and watching those stupid, quick recipe/craft videos. You know, like on Buzzfeed and whatever. Stuffing the last piece of the communal veggie tempura roll into my mouth, I can’t help but choke on a little giggle, directed at how much Seb has been giggling. This man is delightful when he’s high.
“It’s funny because it’s stupid!” he strongly defends.
“I didn’t even say anything!”
“You thought about it.”
He’s right. “You know you would fully hate this if you were sober,” I point out.
“‘You know you would fully hate this if you were sober.’” So high-pitched… Yoba, do I really sound that annoying to him?
“Mock me all you want, you know it’s true!”
He scoffs, “Fuck yourself.”
“I’d rather you do it for me,” I quip back half-jokingly.
He doesn’t respond for a few long seconds, seemingly zoning out on my screen as he tries to buffer what I said. Seb finally finds my eyes and sweet mother of god he looks like he wants to ravage me.
“You wanna?” he offers, his voice quiet and husky.
Tempting, but—
“Bro, Victor’s right there, why the fuck would I wanna?”
“Bro, the bathroom is right there,” he suggests, gesturing towards the door to our left.
A fair point. I can’t tear my eyes from his stare, god he’s so fucking hot. My horny goblin brain is urging me to accept, but I dunno, it would be a little weird with someone right beside us… only separated by a few-seconds walk to the door… would it?
As if he saw the gears turning in my head, Seb decides for me. He scoops me up over his shoulder like I weigh nothing and carries me into the washroom.
“Is this necessary?” I grumble into his shoulder blade. I could’ve walked myself in here but I can’t even be mad.
After taking care to shut and lock the door quietly, he settles me down, placing a towel on the counter for cushioning purposes before pushing my back against it. I can feel the slight flush of being upside down for a little bit removing itself from my face.
Well, that, and I’m probably just rosy from being, like… tossed around.
“Yes,” he softly asserts. “Unless you don’t like being handled like that.”
“I don’t not like it,” I confess.
The corner of his mouth curls up at my reply, and he takes my cheeks between his hands, kissing my forehead. Aww.
I get on my tippy toes, and right before I can reach my lips up to his, he flips me around and leans over my form, forcing me to bend over the sink, just inches from my reflection. I shoulda known better than to trust so easily. His hands are firmly on top of mine, as if he’s worried I’ll leave. He probably doesn’t realize I wouldn’t give this up for anything.
With my ass pressed to Seb’s groin, I can feel how stiff he is. I tantalizingly sway my hips a little, eyeing him through the mirror. He sucks in his lower lip and fights back, his grip on my hands tightening as he lightly thrusts onto the back of my skirt, hiking it up a little in the process. Shit. Well played, nerd. I fight back, pressing my booty towards him just a little.
He puts more weight on me, winding the breath from my lungs a little. But it’s fine, because he’s using the closer contact to nibble my neck, and holy shit this is making me feel tingly. His bluntly pointed canines piercing into my skin, just enough to not draw blood, send goosebumps across my body.
Hm, I kind of wish there was blood…?
Fuck it, vampire kink.
“S’that all you’ve got, emo boy?” I heckle.
The reflection of his dark eyes stab mine while I fiendishly grin at him. Without saying a word, he lowers his face back down.
After gently licking and kissing the area, he bites again, in the same spot, hard. No blood, but I still wince, like, in a good way. A weird half-gasp, half-moan comes out at the feeling. I repeat the noise as he leans back, takes a fistful of my hair, and tugs it towards him like reins. While this is going on he cups his hand over my mouth.
“Careful, (y/l/n),” he growls into my ear, “Unless you want Vic to hear you…”
I shake my head “no”, knowing damn well I look like a wreck. I love foreplay, but good lord I just want him to fuck me up already.
“If I move my hand, can you stay quiet for me?”
I nod again, pleading with my eyes.
Seb slowly lifts his palm from my mouth as if he’s diffusing a bomb, claiming his other hand back as well. He begins removing his jeans — a sound I'm now happily familiar with — followed by his boxers. I reach back, desperate to feel him, but he bats my hand away. Lame .
I turn away from his reflection to look at him directly, glaring as I shimmy my skirt off. Glowering back down at me with somewhat of a carnal look in his bloodshot eyes, he spits into his hand – I’m assuming it’s for lubricative purposes.
I accidentally let out a blissful hum just because of how lewd that looked, and face forward again, but not before receiving a hard slap to my ass. He shoots me a wink too. Cheeky bastard. I bite my lip to hold back another noise and push my underwear to the side. I’m way too eager for him to be inside me.
Seb smacks my ass again, catching me off guard and forcing out an airy, almost squeaky moan. I probably have fucking hearts in my eyes at this point, I think to myself, gazing up to his reflection. If this is my punishment, keep it coming, baby.
“Off completely.”
Staying bent over the counter, I slink the fabric down my hips, letting them fall once they’re past my mid-thigh. The moment they had gotten beneath my ass, Seb firmly groped my left cheek with his respective hand, stroking himself in preparation with his right.
He teases my entrance — pushing his head in enough for me to shiver with pleasure, but retracting it rather than going deeper.
Seb does this a few times, coating me with enough impatience, frustration, and primal need that I didn’t notice myself digging my nails into my palms. I see Seb lock onto the crescents on my skin, and he directs both of my arms behind my back.
Folding my forearms over one another, he locks his hands into mine. This is almost romantic.
“Just squeeze my hands,” he offers into my ear. “Don’t hurt yourself, darling.”
I tilt my head to face him, sneaking a kiss before mumbling a dreamy “Okay.”
Ok, fuck, it is romantic.
Lost in thought and not entirely noticing that his cock was still up against my entrance, he takes me by surprise when he slips in. No hands needed, huh? Am I that wet?
“That wet for me?” he grins, more than satisfied with himself. Fucking telepath.
“Shut up,” I whimper, my grip on his hands tightening.
He slams into me, a loud smack filling the room. I gasp, do my fucking best to keep quiet by promptly sucking in my lips.
“Make me.” He punctuates his demand with another smack of his hips against my backside. I never thought it would be so hard to not make sex noises.
“Oh, whoops,” he evilly chuckles, “Guess you can’t.” He wiggles my hands around behind me in the same way people make small animals “dance” by moving their lil’ baby paws around.
I defiantly shove myself back, knowing it won’t shut him up, but that it’ll definitely convey the message I’m trying to send: You’re a dick.
Seb lets go of one of my hands, takes both of my wrists in one of his fists, and he pulls, arching my back to meet his chest again. He firmly wraps his fingers around my throat — as he puts pressure onto those convenient arteries that’ll make me see stars, he tugs my face back far enough for me to see his.
A strangled moan escapes me as he starts moving again, still slowly, but with more precision and depth this time around. I try to kiss him, but the hand on my neck is firmly keeping me in place. His eyes are boring into mine like moths drawn to a flame, and he’s smiling madly. For fuck’s sake, the control he has over me is turning me on so much.
“Seb, please, I need more,” I struggle to plead out, blatantly due to his grip on me. “Fuck me.”
“Hmm, should I?” he sadistically wonders aloud. He speeds up just a little, and I can’t help the noises that escape me. “You might have to try harder than that.”
“Mmn, please, dude.”
He takes his hand off of my throat to brush away tears that I didn’t realize were rolling out of my eyes.
“Oh, you poor thing,” he notes, rubbing his thumb across my cheek. There isn’t even a tiny smidge of real pity in his voice. It’s purely for his entertainment. Curling his fingers around my chin, he keeps torturing me. “But… ‘please’? That’s all you’ve got?”
Yearning for comfort, I bury my face into his neck to absorb the sound of my fucking agony while I let out a groan and hope he gives me what I want. Preferably soon.
“Sebastian, please,” I beg. “Just blow my back out, fucker,” I add on, the words coming out as a stupid, whiney, frustrated moan more than a command.
Seb looks satisfied – proud of me, even – as he stops thrusting.
He grins and tugs me by the chin to finally give the sloppy, passionate kiss I was yearning for when I was first pulled back like this, and then pushes my face down towards the towel. Before I know it, he’s annihilating my cunt. His hand’s on the back of my neck and holding me firmly in place. I’m totally at his will. There’s no way on god’s green earth that I’m going to be able to keep my mouth shut.
I yoink one of my hands free so I can ball up some of the towel in front of me. I need to use it to muffle the yelps that are escaping my throat.
“Holy fucking shit, Sebastian~,” I yell into the towel.
“You want me to be this rough, babe?” I can’t tell if he’s talking dirty, or if the question is genuine. I can’t see enough of his face to determine it, either — the tears that were once trickling down from desperation are now replaced by those of pleasure.
I lean up enough so he can hear me clearly, and lay my cheek on the towel that’s now damp from my saliva. Gross.
“ Yes, oh my god yes.”
“You want more?”
I nod, desperately. “Please~”
Seb laughs sadistically, “‘Course you do… such a perfect little slut.” The insult, or term of endearment, or whatever the fuck that was supposed to be sends a chill across my skin. My boyfriend speeds up in the meantime, not sacrificing force by any means. “Shit, you feel incredible.”
Oh my god. With a death-grip on the towel, I break the other hand free from Seb’s clutch. Urgently needing to feel more, I snake my hand down to my clit. It’s not that Sebastian isn’t enough, but more that I’m feeling so much at once. This feels like the final piece to the puzzle, or whatever .
“Seb, harder.”
Moaning lowly, he firmly digs his hands into my sides, his hips moving more erratically with time. My head feels foggy with bliss, but I match my hand and my own hips to his pace the best I can.
Completely overwhelmed, my body doesn’t even give me a fair warning before I cum.
“Oh shit,” I laugh, sounding absolutely insane from the overstimulation. High off of it, even. “Holy fucking shit, I’m cumming Sebby~” I didn’t mean to call him that. But I think it flew right over his head anyway.
Seb leans over, his tall frame towering over mine, leaning his face into my hair. He mutters onto my scalp, peppering it with kisses here and there. “So good, love, you’re doing so fucking good .”
I use both hands to lean up from my folded position, to help give him some more leverage, and our eyes meet through the mirror as we moan together. My arms and legs are shaking. It’s taking every muscle in my body to stay on my feet.
“Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease,” I whisper with each swift thrust. I don’t even know what the fuck it is I’m begging for, but Seb seems to.
He wraps around my torso, sneaks under my shirt, and grips the everliving shit out of my boob. A stress ball, of sorts. Seb then reaches his other hand around, effectively locking me in place, and strums my clit for me. I welcome the overstimulation with a heady mewl, making my partner smile down at my reflection.
Placing one small hand atop the larger one covering my tit, I wrap my other arm behind myself to pull him down, mumbling frantic curses into his mouth while I attempt to kiss his stupid perfect lips. Our sweaty foreheads are plastered to each other as he wrings another orgasm out of me in record time.
“Fuck,” I practically weep, “You’re so goddamn good oh my fucking god!”
He laughs, his voice lilting with pleasure. “Thaaat’s it baby, cum all over my cock.” Holy shit . “You feel so perfect, cumming around me with that tight little pussy of yours.” Holy shit holy fucking shit he is so hot.
Just when I’m starting to feel weak and eased from my comedown, Seb asks, “Fuck, where do you want me?”
What a gentleman, waiting for me to cum for the upteenth time today before doing so only his second. I owe him.
“Inside me,” I basically plead, hazy stars coating my vision while he continues stuffing me. “Please, I’m on the pill, please just don’t fucking stop.” I might snap again holy shit, is this guy actually a fucking wizard? I’ve never even managed to get myself off this many times in one session.
His dazed eyes scan mine, “You sure?”
I nod, “Please, I need your cum Seb.” A bit dramatic, but it feels like the truth at this moment.
He dips down to kiss me but winds up moaning, loudly , right into my mouth instead. He lets out a delicious, breathy laugh, and groans, “Fuck, I love you so much holy shit.” WHAT? “Mmmfuck~”
Shocked and full of butterflies, an unfortunate squeak makes its way past my lips — and we were doing so well today! A fog seizes my vision, while the combination of his confession and his throbbing length in me send me to the moon and back. This is some sort of fairytale shit.
Our heavy breaths echo throughout the room as he pulses through both our orgasms. I fumble my back onto the sink for support afterwards, quickly wiping myself down before shakily pulling my skirt and panties back up.
My eyes are glued to Sebastian’s, mesmerized. Inspecting him, I’m trying to decipher if he meant what he’d said, or if it was just his horny gremlin brain talking.
He’s normally so… cool. Sweetest guy ever, but still your typical edgelord bad boy. Definitely doesn’t read as the type who would spill his deepest feelings while fucking someone’s brains out.
He stares back, not much of an expression other than wide eyes on his face. “Fuck.”
“Sebastian,” I sing, raising a brow. Yoba, I can’t stop smiling.
“I didn’t mean for it to happen like that, I just got lost in the moment, it just like—,” he grunts, leaning his arms over the counter, placing his head atop mine. Locking me in yet again. He shouts “Fuck!” into my hair.
“Seb…”
He backs up, hands on his face as he paces in what little space we have here. Before turning towards me again, he pulls his pants up. Thank god . It was getting hard not to let out an inappropriate giggle at a man free-balling a nervous breakdown.
“I’m so sorry (y/n) that was so stupid. That is not how I wanted to—“
“Sebastian.” I walk up to him and take his cheeks in my hands, forcing him to look down at me. “Did you mean it?”
He takes a minute, scanning my face, and eventually nods apprehensively. “Yeah,” he whispers.

I'm thankful for Pizza.
Hey, it's thanksgiving so lets give thanks for a variety of things.
It was honestly a pretty good year for me. Especially when it came to gaming.
Pizza Tower came out after years of waiting. I honestly would have released it shortly after the SAGE 19 demo given that the version was so well approved and already had a fanbase and a mod base for it.
But that didn't happen. Mcpig worked on more of the game, adding a bunch of stuff and removing just as many things.
There are plenty of videos about what ended up on the cutting room floor but my favorite thing is the Mansion because it was such an ambitious level that almost always had some kind of lore for its backbone only to get dropped because it was too large or too slow of a level.
Other stuff like having a two player mode with distinctly different characters to play as looked like a nice idea but in reality was just bloat.
In the end it all became mods and with a fully fledged game to cut their teeth on, modders would go absolutely bonkers with what they add and change. From making Pepperman actually functional to bringing back multiple versions of all the dropped levels the game is basically a huge success and has a really devoted mostly sane fanbase.
Emulation is here to stay
The Steam deck is a very successful device and with good reason. It's well made and easy to modify. The Steam Machine didn't work because there was no logical way into the PC market in a way that wasn't redundant.
Handhelds however were a different story. While the Switch and the 3DS dominated for years a secret project was being worked on. Handheld devices that can play multiple games from different franchises. Different developers. It wasn't streaming. It was emulation.
Emulation devices were more than just a knockoff device that Rerez would end up playing where almost all the games were bootlegs of bootlegs.
Real attempts at making real devices that could play real games using the various open source software that was available to them were being worked on.
This took many years. The PSP line actually held the title of being a really high quality emulation device but after the last couple of years true successors have been found.
The Steam deck, even with its massive potential as a device that can play thousands of games sold on the Valve store has the capabilities to easily play several generations of games flawlessly through emulation.
But it's very expensive. Which created a market of people who wanted a Steam Deck but couldn't afford one. So since the release of the release of the Steam Deck the emulation handheld scene exploded with a much sharper level of quality.
Emulation handhelds went from being Meh to Good overnight and with a massive amount of variety, portability, custom firmware, the ability to run Linux, Windows, or Android (depending on the device) and a community that easily maps out what does and doesn't work well on these devices.
Hell, half of these emulation devices already come with thousands of actual, working games on them. I bought a emulation device a couple months ago and it had Cave Story and Shovel Knight as well as several other playable stand alone titles.
There was also the option to mod a 3DS into an emulation device but if you wanted to play non Nintendo releases you were quickly entering scuffed territory (same with the PSPvita when playing Nintendo games).
If you wanted a really well rounded experience, it is more than 200 dollars but an Ayn Odin or upward would get you an impressive range of play ability.
You really are spoiled for choice these days when it comes to games which brings me to my next point.
The game industry is not video-games
I keep getting told that gaming is actually in a bad spot right now. Lots of layoffs, some truly terrible releases, and the ones that do find financial success are complete parasites sucking the blood out of willing whales.
Oh, and what was it? 90% of games being lost?
That last one sounds really bad on paper until you realize that all of human history is like that. Can you even imagine all the stories that were lost to time because the average man couldn't read or write or how certain experimental attempts at music were forgotten because they were before the age of music recording, made by a person whose work was too far ahead of its time?
Hell, a centuries' worth of film is lost because the owner of the property threw it away or it was destroyed in a fire or the original copy naturally degraded over time and there were no other copies of it or even worse, the original was edited meaning that the original master copy was effectively erased.
I get it. We shouldn't have games become unplayable due to bullshit DRM or the game needing a remote server to run or it being tied down to very specifically designed hardware and firmware but to act like gaming is going extinct is hyperbolic.
The reality is that for most people, a life time's worth of video games is already at your fingertips.
It's just a fact, you have way more games than you do time on earth to play them all and any game that becomes lost to the sands of time can probably be recreated as long as you aren't a stickler for copyright.
It's never been easier to play older games and it's never been easier to make a game simply running on the inspiration of a dead or mishandled franchise.
All the stuff about the layoffs and big game studios feeling the squeeze?
THAT'S GOOD.
The reality is that gaming as an art is doing just fine. If you make a really nice game that comes from the heart, even if when it's technically just okay. You can find some kind of success out of making it and people will have fun playing it. No triple A publisher would green light a Visual Novel like Slay the Princess even though Slay the Princess is probably the greatest Renpy visual novel game that has ever been made (which was tough competition seeing as it had to beat Doki Doki and Snoot game) and will have a profit margin which is more than I can say about Gollum.
Aside from whales who vary between being addicts and people with good jobs but no one in their life to dump money into (you can decide for yourself which one is sadder, having a crippling addiction or having nothing in your life other than Genshin Impact), the real thing keeping Triple A gaming afloat was investors.
As someone who is knee deep in the investment field, infinite growth is a real delusion pressed upon by stock holders. If you do the same as last year people want to sell the shares and buy something with moon potential. Sure literally every world renown investor whose word is so valuable stadiums get packed just to hear what they have to say in 0.5 speed (those old men take their time to deliver a speech) will tell you to find something that is stable enough while also offering value in the form of good dividends. From Warren Buffet to the Motley Fool they'll tell you to buy and hold for decades.
But uhh, people want their generational wealth now and if you have enough of those psychos in the boardroom when you decide the direction of your video game company you're going to get into some shit and into some shit a lot of them did.
But now investors are feeling the pinch so it's harder to press your thumb on the CEO when you have to sell off some assets just to make sure you don't end up in a bad spot.
But don't feel too bad for those big suits. They got used to gamblers throwing money at them so when money started drying out they cut talent rather than their paychecks which tells you what they really value in a company (I mean is it a surprise? When you've never worked in the industry you're a Chief Executive Officer in, you don't even think about if something is or isn't replaceable).
So you should be prepared for a crash, a lot of stuff is going to fall over if they don't figure out a restructure that doesn't accounts for priced in growth.
But um, like I said. There are thousands of playable complete, and easily modded games out there for you to play. You don't need to play a new game every year. arguably if you've never played it, heard of it, or know anything about it, that game IS NEW. For you.
So go play it. And if the game you want to play absolutely doesn't exist then ya know what.

5 Open Source Alternatives To Minecraft
There's no doubt that Minecraft is a favorite game for millions. The fact that it's written in Java enables it to run on many different platforms such as Linux. There are a lot of Minecraft gamers who would like to have access to the source code of Minecraft and to work on it. Unfortunately the source code is not accessible to the general public.
More excellent content
Online course for RHEL technical overview. Download cheat sheets. Find an Open Source Alternative. Read the most popular Linux content. info Check out open-source resources.
There's good news. Minecraft's popularity has led to a variety of attempts to recreate the game, and others in the same vein as open source software. Are you looking for a free Minecraft alternative? Here's a quick overview of some Minecraft clones and derivatives that you must definitely check out.
These projects are at different stages of completion and meet many different purposes. Some seek to duplicate the Minecraft experience in full or at the very least offer a similar experience. Others are taking the voxel-based game concept in entirely new directions Some are more of a framework to aid you in building your own game or create.
Minetest
The first game we'll be discussing is Minetest. Minetest, a "near infinite-world block sandbox game" and a "game engine" is the most complete alternative to Minecraft. It supports multiplayer and subgames. It also comes with several terrain generators as well as different default biomes. It also offers a user-friendly API to make mods in Lua.
Minetest is an open source software under the LGPL, and is written primarily in C++ so it's fairly fast compared to some others written in scripting languages. Minetest can be used on Windows, OS X and Linux as well as Android, Linux, Android, FreeBSD and possibly other operating systems. The source code at GitHub.

Terasology
Terasology could be a contender for the most beautiful rendering engine within the pack. Its shadows are both terrifying and stunning. This game was originally an experiment in procedural terrain creation. It has since evolved into a fully-featured game with multiplayer and a variety of add-on modules that let players to play with different mechanics.
Terasology is written in Java and released under an Apache 2.0 license. It is Java-based and can run on any platform that has sufficient power.
Terasology screenshot, Terasology Code repository, Apache 2.0.
Voxel.js
The odd one out in this list is Voxel.js as, unlike the other it's not a game in any way and doesn't claim to be. Voxel.js instead is an JavaScript library that allows users to create their own Minecraft-style games, renderings, and other interactive widgets using JavaScript or HTML. It can be embedded into any website without the need for special plugins.
Voxel.js is put together as a number of related projects, so you can utilize as much or as little of the code as you wish when creating your perfect game. Although the core library, voxel engine, is a base engine that renders boxy scenes well There are more than 200 add-ons. Check out the gallery for some ideas of what others have built with the engine. The engine itself is released under a BSD-style licence; other add-ons might be licensed differently and it's a good idea to check before making assumptions.
Screenshot of voxel forests made with Voxel.js by Jason Baker
TrueCraft
TrueCraft is designed to be very similar to the original game. It is described as a Minecraft implementation, and not an exact copy. It is compatible with official Minecraft server releases. TrueCraft's creator is looking to implement beta version 1.7.3 that he considers to be "nearly perfect" during the development of Minecraft. TrueCraft is a snapshot that was intentionally frozen in time. He seeks feature-parity to Minecraft.
Because it is so close to the original, TrueCraft has taken great care to avoid copyright issues by accepting developers to contribute only if they haven't decompiled or had access to the source code, although those who have had access are welcome to contribute in different ways. TrueCraft is written in C# and is open source under an MIT license.
TrueCraft screenshot, TrueCraft code repository, MIT license.
Craft
Craft is another open source Voxel engine that has the look of Minecraft. While development appears to have slowed or stopped however, there are over 200 forks, some of which (such as the school project Not2bad-craft) are able to provide major improvements. Craft's simplicity might appeal to you if looking to build an alternative to Minecraft but don't know where to begin: the game engine resides in just a few thousand lines of C code and utilizes OpenGL for rendering. It makes use of simple algorithms to create terrain and perform other tasks. Everything is stored in an SQLite3 databank. There's also a Python-based multiplayer server that's worth the chance.
Craft is available under an MIT licence
Craft screenshot, Craft code repository, MIT license.
Other great options
You can also look at these other notable mentions:
Freeminer Another sandbox-based title is a game inspired by Minecraft and based upon Minetest. The creators aim to make the game fun while retaining some of the best elements. It has installers for Linux and Android. ClassiCube is a Minecraft Classic clone written in C#. It is open source under the OpenTK license, and installs on Linux, BSD, Solaris, Windows, Mac OS, and in browsers.
Here you go. This list is far from exhaustive; there are plenty of other options waiting for you to explore and over time, we'll likely see more options emerge as enthusiasts play these games in a variety of ways or even strike out on their own. Which one do you prefer? And which one did we leave out that you would have liked to be included more of?

ok obviously video game remakes/remasters are not perfectly parallel to the current scourge of sequels/prequels/reboots/live action remakes of beloved 2D animation/general MCU-ification of every franchisable pop culture property. computers and consoles have advanced so much over time; games can have so much more shit (esp textures & polygons-wise) in them than they used to. a lot of older games might also not meet modern accessibility standards or have clunky mechanics (i.e., dao’s combat is.... fine. but imo it draws too heavily from the tabletop games that inspired the genre, and the crunchiness + the animations/pacing mean it doesn’t FEEL like i want epic fantasy combat to feel like, esp compared to da2 & dai)
at the same time, i can’t help but be wary of large studios churning out what is essentially the same content with a new coat of paint (better graphics) slapped on and then charging ridiculous fucking prices for it.
not that studios would ever do this, but i’m a huge proponent of them making the original games open source instead and letting fans spearhead such remakes (similar to the dao remaster mod or a fan project to remake battle for middle earth in unreal)
like you know why doom can be run on anything? you know why quake still has an active and vibrant modding scene? because both they & their engines are open source.

DREAM TIME
Earliest remembered events of the dream:
Someone is interviewing this ancient form of obi wan kenobi, different from the movies. He looks old but his hair is long and brown, and his eyes glow orange. He talks about how he doesn’t regret how it went down with Avalon, even if it was to this apocalyptic like world. The interviewer scoffs the old man, but he warns him that he can still get around the “cans” if he needs to(presumably, “cans” is slang for some type of robot. I don’t know if he said it with the plural or not).
MIDWAY
me and my friends are in this kind of island, same island as obi wan is on(for this and next segment, I think my form changes a lot. At first I’m obi wan, and then I’m this random woman during the hiding scene in THE ROBOT.). It’s snowing, and we’re breaking into Chests that belong to the main controller of the island. The content in these chests look a lot like technology from some kind of Minecraft mod, and the way we’ve been breaking into them is using some kind of cheat code that overrides the password on them. One chest unlocks, but triggers an alarm, and we debate running or hiding from a robot we know is going to be there.
THE ROBOT
We decide to take the loot because we need it, and we treck a little ways up the mountain(?) we were on to a vantage point that looks below. I then pull out a golden blanket that covers all of us, likely meant to be camouflage despite the fact that it was winter. Either way it worked. The blanket btw looked like the golden Snuggie my mother owns. Anyways, on to the robot. I can’t fully describe the robot, other than it had a lot of limbs, and coudl poke with them hard enough to kill. It walked all around, and eventually walked right over us, being able to sense the slightest movement from snow, and attacking every place it sensed it. It was like this anxiety for a minute, but thankfully there were few animals, and it continued on its way.
THE HIDEOUT
We make it back to base, where we are all suddenly kids, around 10. The base interior is all I know, and it looks a lot like that one lodge hotel inside, with polished wood everywhere. There’s these lovely rooms where I can sleep with my best friend in one, or take the nice bed all to myself in another room. I was debating this choice I think when the base got found out. We end up running through this door that gets closed by our biggest member of the resistance, a practical giantess. The pov goes onto her from here on out.
THE FIGHT
As she is closing the door, and pushing a lot of rocks in front of her of the door so they couldn’t follow(the rocks were very similar in look to coco puffs), there is a loud banging on the hanger door at the other end of the hangar. The giantess knows it’s the robot. Then, silence. A voice speaks out, in a bored tone “can you please just open the door already?”. This sends a jolt of fear through the woman, and also me who is watching in dream third person. It’s her brother, who works for the bad guys of the island. She pulls out her sword, and opens the door a nudge before she is attacked by an invisible source. Now here is where it gets weird. The brother starts singing about his foolish it is to fight him and it sounds really weird and 70s and definitely inspired by David Bowie, and we find out that he’s shooting this weird purple sphere from nothing. We find this out just as she breaks her sword blocking it.
THE BEFUDDLEMENT
Now I don’t remember what happened next, but there definitely was an extra 30 or so seconds of dream tape before I woke up. I think there was something to do about Luffy? Or maybe some of us had come back to save her. I wouldn’t be able to tell you what happened. All I know is that I woke up.

Doom fanbase related takes and prespectives
Tumblr media
This is just a collection of various observations and some even clash like different perspectives, but there’s a chance that some are unique or unpopular so they’re "hot takes", i guess.
(And after the Brutal Doom post i could also post this)
Once in a while, there’s always someone complaining that "Doom fans have the Same Fucking Jokes" and i always assumed that those complainers were just as "Zoomer" as the ones making the repetitive memes. But more so that the memes themselves (The longer the Icon of Sin, Shooting a hole on the face of Mars, Isabelle, The Demons Are Stuck With You, GIT GUD, When the Doom Music plays, Doot etc) are either very recent or just associated with Eternal/2016. Like, you never see someone say "DOOM MEMES ARE ALL THE FUCKING SAME" and bring up Impse, NEDM, Plutonia jokes, Benellus the God of Shotguns, “Does It Run Doom?”, Dopefish, Repercussions of Evil, IDSPISPOPD, Terry Wads and so on.
DOOMGUYBOT made a video called “Ranking EVERY Doom Joke” and all those jokes were not before Eternal/2016 except maybe Rip and Tear: In a way, they accidentally reveal something about the most popular Doom content/personalities nowadays. The Doom fanbase is now either defined by newcomers or that stuff just gets to be more popular/shared often, almost hiding the actual old blood/guard under the rug (Which makes certain “assertive” behaviors ironic since they’re technically the actual “new kids on the block” and not the other way around)
It’s why i find it ironic when people feared Doomslayer in Fortnite will bring in annoying kids into Doom, because 2016/Eternal were Doom’s return into the mainstream so the main games technically already did that (And the people with this fear in the first place might as well be newcomers themselves).
It explains the discourse around difficulty and Eternal: It’s not just people being bad at their first Doom game; It’s also people being good at their first Doom game and doing that “GIT GUT, GAME JOURNO” attitude that feels like they took it from somewhere. The fact that some of them even go “Boomers can’t beat Eternal because they can’t quicksave” almost enforces this divide of old and new fans. (It's true that older fans have their struggles with Eternal but still; Then there's those that are good because they were good with Quake 3 etc). (Though what if being too good at Quake 3 is why boomers struggle with Eternal? There's a thing called carpal tunnel syndrom and-)
If one were to judge the fanbase by the current content, they’d almost be surprised this series actually existed for almost 30 years, let alone had its fanbase start off as one of the most supportive and diverse modding scenes, making content for a certain engine and even gets to port its games to non-gaming devices. (Probably even before ORIGWAD and DOSDoom). Doom is a series people see as an example of “the one franchise that actually returns to the roots and avoided the sins of other pop culture” but a lot of people into the games may still reveal certain traits/behaviors you could spot elsewhere. You could point out new fans having those "MCU/Consoomer" behaviors or being exposed to "digestable internet content" like basic memes and talentless Youtubers.
The phrase “Doom is Eternal” seems like genius marketing from Slayers Club, but a side effect of making a series “loved by everyone” is that it can easily trample over the “core of the fanbase”; Because otherwise, you’d think the answer to “why is Doom eternal?” would start with something literal like mods and open source code. (And then on r/Doom, the basic memes would have been getting much less upvotes compared to a mod release or a piece of fanart actually being posted by its author or at least noticeably credited/sourced).
Because Doom is a series that, for better or worse, was impacted by the fanbase and there’s aspects about Doom that can be traced back to outside sources. Just consider:
Mods/wads/source ports/etc in general.
Even SnapMap and D3/Eternal mods.
The "speed" association, partially because of Quake or the ALWAYS RUN command (And how boring FPS got during the 7th gen).
Nicknames like Doomguy, Pinky and Unmaker (This one taken from Tom Hall's Doom Bible).
Websites like forums, wad hosting, wikis, documentation.
Fan ports/reverse engineering/PRESERVATION for Doom 64, PS1 and RPG games (The official D64 port has Kaiser from D64EX involved; The one true lost Doom game might be Doom Resurrection, D3 based on-rails shooter for iOS).
FreeDoom and others.
A mobile port by Carmack that used a fork of PrBoom.
SIGIL and unused Doom assets John Romero shared (Until ZeniMax got him to stop).
Final Doom, D2 Master Levels, NRFTL, Unity ports addons and American McGee once making an unofficial map before D2.
Fanmade music remasters and remixes (Even Mick Gordon did some).
Anytime a video/article used fanart or modded screenshots because Doom barely had official art.
Stuff like ripped sprites, assets and models from the games and so on.
Fanart of Doomslayer and Daisy at the Fortress of Doom.
Eternal's official cosplay skin may be based off someone's cosplay that id used as reference and didn't credit.
Doomslayer is not just tied to the RIP AND TEAR comic, but both ironic jokes about Doomguy's power level from 4chan and unironic fanboy meltdowns over Death Battle animating Master Chief defeating Doomguy (And i guess how jealous Doom fans were at Halo).
Memes that are referenced in the games.
Memes and reaction images that are shared, often uncredited.
IDSPISPOPD since it was influenced by a USENET post before the first game was released.
The passage of misinfo/rumors/lies etc like Doomguy not knowing what sex is, Fly Taggart being his "real name, "Doom is keyboard only" but also good/useful shit like how the BFG9000 actually works, how Doomguy and BJ are related, the source of real objects that inspired ingame textures
The kind of mods and assets that explored the original games' setting, as if the fans were interested in "expanding/exploring the Doom universe" before 2016's lore.
The kind of mods with fanservice and crossover stuff like Samsara or MetaDoom (Or even most bloated fan remakes and HD TEXTURES REMASTERED 4K).
Speaking of crossovers, besides mods there's fanart.
Mods based off cut concepts like Doom Delta.
Cacowards i guess.
How fans made a SECOND Wiki to ditch the former, that was under Wikia/Fandom.
Feedback that affected the games, which is also why Eternal has that style of ingame pickups and UI design.
Hissy mascot.
Maybe whether or not id copied Brutal Doom or that fanmade fire Baron to create a similar design in Eternal.
Doom as a series mainly existed for its impact alone and wasn't meant to be a "franchise" like Mario or Final Fantasy. That's another reason to attach fans to such a small series. When even Sakurai himself mentions "Doomguy" as a nickname and makes a joke about ports, that's 2 things that come from somewhere.
It can make discovering the potential outsider origin of the Doomslayer more difficult if nobody ever looks back at fans already doing Chuck Norris-like/copypasta jokes or getting mad over Master Chief and Death Battle; Hell, we’re even past the point people used to think id copied Brutal Doom.
People once were upset over Brutal Doom getting a lot of coverage and its fanbase not touching the vanilla games or other mods but when you look at Isabelle crossovers and other recent memes, it almost feels like a whole different universe where Doom fan content never really revolved around wads and any of the sort. Brutal Doom in general was a weird age where a mod's popularity and reception felt so forced, its fans even begged other modders to make their works compatible with BD and Romero had to REclarify his opinion about the mod. But even BD's hate feels so fake/carried by second hand info because people just go "i heard SgtMark is hated in the community", so the only sincere BD hate is like guys on 4chan posting webm's of BD's stupid bugs while talking about how great Hideous Destructor is. Brutal Doom is like if Yandere Simulator never reached what some would call "lolcow status" because the people hating it fucked up so bad.
It explains why Romero being restricted by ZeniMax from sharing assets of his own games did not get a lot of attention (Besides the fact that this was already a thing going back to 2014); Otherwise, Doom fans would consider giving this the same attention/priority as when Mick Gordon got screwed over by Bethesda. (I mean this because both situations are lame and Romero/Gordon deserve better).
Even then, someone’s presence/start into a series doesn’t translate to how deep they’re into it and there’s also stuff like GGGManlives making FPS videos before Decino yet you can also see how the latter can show more knowledge than the former (Though sometimes there’s reasons for this and to be fair, i heard Decino himself may not like Build Engine games but correct me on this one if possible).
But never forget GGGManlives made a review of the Doom Unity ports and people pointed out huge mistakes like treating GZDoom as vanilla Doom.
In general, the louder/more noticeable fans of something aren’t the most “into it”, no matter how vocal or performative they can be: It’s like how MCU fans don’t care about comic books, console warriors don’t care about older/obscure titles of their company and animation/cartoon fans tend to hyperfixate over Disney/Illumination/Dreamworks etc and won’t recognize a name like “Ralph Bakshi”. Or people that complain "ANIME IS ALL FANSERVICE AND SHOUNEN" and ignore other genres or works.
And i guess if most modern Doom fans are unironic Redditors, someone will point out how some older fans were on a site like SomethingAwful lol.
(At least Doom fans that were on SA ended up finding fun stuff to do, unlike how most SA goons turned out)
I mean, if actual “Doom boomers and wise nerds” aren’t pointing this out, they’re either busy better doing cooler things (Unlike me when i wrote this lol) or somehow don’t feel like challenging those that otherwise have a "lower power level". DoomKid did made a video correcting MidNight (Both representing 2 worlds in the Doom fanbase) and i wonder if we could get more culture shock moments like this.
DoomKid was even polite and calm, so he didn't even sounded mad when he made that video.
Even ignoring the old blood and past history, there’s also a lot more to Eternal fan content than just memes, like people making cool fanmade demons or mods or cool animations in SFM.
And on the subject of people making "anime is temporary, Doom is Eternal": Anime fans in the Doom fanbase are usually the ones behind the best fanart or mods, while those that hate anime tend to only make basic, digestible memes; Plus how John Romero’s favorite game is Chrono Trigger and i’m sure even the new id themselves were inspired by Japanese media when it comes to making the new Doom games.
Even lore kinda applies here because getting into "Doom lore" may not start with stuff about Sentinels or Maykrs; Rather, you'd get info from the old games' instruction manuals, official strategy guides, ingame intermission texts, obscure media like level packs and phone games etc which is how some get to know about the "Blazkowicz family tree" in the first place and even know stuff like "Hell created their own cyberdemons" is retconned in 2016 (And maybe also that the in-universe date of 2022 is from the SNES port manual and stuff like the fake screenshot implying Doomguy is a turbo virgin).
Speaking of LORE: I think Doom's staying power is related to the setting's limited/weird presentation because of how people still argue over what "Doom should be", have their personal interpretations and the amount of fan content that shows a fanmade universe. Same reason why "story doesn't matter" doesn't really reflect on the fanbase as much (Specially because it feels like people only got that from a DidYouKnowGaming video where they brought a quote that even Carmack disagrees a bit with). I also love seeing fanmade redesigns of demons and Doomguy, specially because it's partially to do with how Doom 3 changed Doom's identity and how it pushed that "reinterpretable series" aspect. The idea of how "experimental" Doom can be is also why i tend to have mixed feelings on Doom having an interconnected universe/lore (Specially in hypothetical "IF" situations where the series could get another reboot and it could reinterpretate certain characters or ideas, even if this is because of how many people didn't like TAG2's conclusion). When you really think about it: The problem with Doom movies isn't just replacing the demons with aliens or Doomguy with whatshername but the fact that the settings and visuals don't mimick certain wall textures and barely capture the attention to detail of someone like, i dunno, MarphyBlack?
Something interesting about Doom 64 and it being "the real Doom 3" is how most fans knew the game from fan ports and most people outside the fanbase didn't know about the game, but i honestly think it's because generic/mainstream gaming channel/sites (Dorkly, Watchmojo, DYKG etc) somehow refused to acknowledge the game at all. Yes, the game was obscure in the 90's (Partially because of the FPS genre getting into real 3D and the game being seen as "another Doom port") but it feels like the kind of game that people made it slightly more obscure than it was. D64 being "the real Doom 3" is an interesting thing to think about because, for being a once somewhat unpopular game at the time, you have to wonder whether or not some fans would care if not for the lore aspect of the game (Since it was not made by id themselves and more people were worried over the game lacking an official modern release and not story stuff).
Also weird when people think of Daisy's death as a tragic thing but honestly? Doom being one of the revolutionary violent games in the 90's makes me think that Daisy exists for a dark humor factor. I mean, we're talking about the guys behind Commander Keen, who then made a violent easter egg about that character in the second Wolfenstein map in Doom 2. To id, it probably felt no different from South Park killing off Kenny.
The idea of "all wads are canon" is also weird to me because:
This concept is barely sourced by people saying it, i think it was from some codex in 2016 about Doomguy traveling through time and dimensions but it was vague.
The audience of modern Doom lore is different from that of the people super invested into wads.
There's also the way how people only know about wads/mods as stuff like "SIMPSONS IN DOOM!?" when most Doom fans think of stuff related to the Cacowards or wads/mods as something more sincere and developed.
In general, Doom modding in a way can feel like fanfiction, it contrasts how people want an official crossover of Doom and Halo, because it's something that could be possible in modding and even done in ways that may never happen officially.
I think a reason why nerd hobbies/media have that "brand loyalty/defense" behavior is because it's technically easier than learning more about the subject, because for all the guys defending Disney Star Wars, not many want to be the wiki nerd that writes articles about the canonicity of "water". If modern Doom fans are in that "loud loyal nerd" area, then of course the boomers will fit in that "computer geek" zone because of wads and all.
I guess the thing Youtubers and Twitter "personalities" have over someone like modders is the spread of information and influence, so it makes sense why personalities get in the way of content.
You don't need to ever have made/played a wad to be a Doom fan, of course. At the same time, nobody wants to see a weirdo harass an artist that once drew Doomguy and Isabelle together because they're not interested in wads. I guess the "venn diagram" connecting these 2 sides of the fanbase exists but it also depends on how close the "circles" are to each other (And if other circles exist). (Also, people got tired of Isabelle crossovers but the Pixar Lightyear crossovers felt more forced, like a Disney marketing scheme infiltrating a different series).
Most Doom fans play the main games, with 3 having a “maybe” spot to most people (And consider the differences between the original release and later versions too).
Even then, older fans can also be considered responsible for occasional misinfo or misremembered stuff about Doom. Or literal meme opinions like "Doom is SP, Quake is MP" despite Doom's history with deathmatch and how the Quake arena MP scene is not as alive as Quake singleplayer mapsets. (There's also weird boomer nostalgia favoring stuff like autoaim and limited color palette than stuff like how armor worked). (I guess if Decino ever makes a video explaining how movement in classic Doom actually worked, there will be older fans acting like they never made Doom to be that fast and that "ALWAYS_RUN is more of a zoomer thing").
Depends on how you feel about "anglicized canon" in fanbases.
I also think that modern Doom games are both standouts but they do have a few trends here and there (Even if you don't have to be an annoying nerd about it). This can come to mind when people compare Doom to either SMT, Devil May Cry, Berserk, Warhammer, DarkSiders or MCU when discussing the gameplay, story, aesthetic, setting, tone etc. Some people even go "gameplay is amazing but the story is Reddit". Eternal did have some stupid criticisms against the game, but because of the flow of information and how it works online, i assume the stupidest shit was seen more than some good arguements that were presented better.
Modern Doom was received well enough that even people that tend to be cynical liked it (Even CrowbCat made a positive video about D2016). Whether or not that also means "erm, they have the same opinions as people they'd called Redditors" but again, that's some melvin-ism showing up. The notion that most/new Doom fans can, in fact, be associated with Reddit or Twitter may lead to some statements about the games or audience, like "maybe id really is marketing stuff towards Redditors".
I also think a reason why SOME Doom memes/jokes are lame is because they’re copypasted from other fanbases but it’s more than that: I think people assume "fanbases" are a "template", which is also why you had various Portugal themed Twitter accounts for some franchises (SMT and Xenoblade) and how any series can have a "No context" or "struggle" Twitter; Similar to Tumblr having confession blogs to any series there; The end result is making fanbases less unique and too formulaic. Same thing with "fandom" being Tumblr people with ships, coffee shops AU's and "comfort characters"; Which almost erases shit like lore nerds and "WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT, GOKU OR SUPERMAN?".
What else? I've seen people say Doom fans can be cultist over mild criticism and shit like that (Specially with how Eternal lost against TLOU2 at the VGA's). I wonder if the people that think Doom fans are too loyal are even aware of the older fans: Because otherwise, "you don't even know what a wad is" may or may not be a way to shut some of them up. The thing with this kind of "brand loyalty" behavior is that it feels like a result of corporate nerd culture and feels out of place in Doom because of certain fan activities.
It's the same reason why i think it's dumb when people imply "Doom has an anti-corporate message" because of shit like: How Doom is owned by Zenimax, the existence of Mighty Doom, how content in Eternal like skins is handled, the Denuvo anti-cheat thing, maybe even the lore or merchandise, how older and newer fans behave and their activities, the reason why Carmack even released the original source code, when id made an unofficial Super Mario 3 port, the music and DND plagiarism, the Satanic Panic during the games' release, how Romero is still screwed by ZeniMax, how Mick Gordon was treated, some concept artist doing NFT's and so on.
(It's also really easy to write "corporations bad" stories in media, so they don't really mean an anti-capitalism message when the product itself is still part of that environment)
Meanwhile, the fact that source ports and mods exist is proof that old Doom is not perfect and fans "fixed the games" one way or another. So for all the purists that don't even touch vanilla fan wads, there's people that interpret Doom to their ideal ways, even if some end up liking a modded version of Doom way more than the original.
The quality of Doom fan projects makes me surprised they don't get a lot of "HIRE THIS MAN" reactions like Sonic projects do but i can see why:
Sonic had a lot of "struggling" moments (Even if people exaggerated them) while Doom at the very least had dormancy moments and Doom 4 taking years to be made before it was turned into 2016.
Because Doom was almost defined by its mods and fan culture, people associated fanmade content with Doom as if it was official/canon (Even if it lead to confusion and false information).
Maybe people focused on Sonic fans making "the best fangames" to compensate for the years of cringe culture focusing on the lowest aspects of Sonic fans.
I also think the best parts or most important bits about Doom fans makes drama disappointing, though perhaps what makes the highs of the Doom "community" could even explain stupid shit like when Graf Zahl was pissed at Lilith PK3.
In a way, comparing good content to lame content is like when people compared Vloggers and Lets Players to Newgrounds animators in terms of content quality.
ALSO, Doom may be made to be more "EPIC" than it actually is, specially when it comes to crossovers and power level debates, as if Doom fans don't interact with other media. Because otherwise, the negative reactions to The Ancient Gods part 2 felt like fans realized that "Doom is not as fucking cool as i wanted it to be".
It also reminds me of jokes like "Doom is the most Christian game" because the series is either "90's Heavy Metal Satanic but not really, calm down grandma" or "makes up a bunch of lore to run away from actual references, if anything". With an obscure phone game having a holy water pistol. Otherwise, i think Doom fans should know what Shin Megami Tensei is.
Then again, most new Doom fans used to come from other series (Even if it's slop like Ubisoft open world games or COD) while other fans played enough different games, it explains creativity in some impressive GZDoom mods.
I don't plan to start a war or overly praise specific people, i'm just a messenger who could've been informed better (Feel free to correct me even). I just think Doom boomers should put these Redditors in their fucking pla- i mean educate the new generation, so Doom is in fact Eternal because there's a lot of good things to learn for new fans, let alone other fanbases as well. Doom fans sort of OWNED the series, even if they're not on the same level as Touhou.
If you think these are good opinions and hot takes, feel free to spread them and pretend you made them or not. Just do better research/clarifications than i did, if you're a Youtuber wanting to tackle a topic without Dunning Kruger's syndrom. I should invest in something more interesting like, i don't know, a wad? Spent way too much time on this fucking thing.
Also some stuff i could've added above but felt too lazy to specify where to add:
MyHouse's popularity could lead to another situation where people get into it but barely know about wads, so maybe they could either delve deep into Doom or make up stuff like using "wad" as a filetype name thing like with other creepypastas ("Smile.jpg" etc)
If you ever feel like boycotting Doom over stuff like Mick Gordon's treatment, it's easy because of how impressive and diverse Doom modding is: You can even look at Quake's Slayers Testament mod and pretend a mod is "the real Doom 6" or something.
We could also say nerds are getting less picky/observant over stuff which is why nobody cares if Doomguy ever looks a bit more like Master Chief (And could even explain the reception of the new Mario movie or the RE4 remake, though we still had Demon Souls fans explaining why they disliked the visual changes in the remake).
Speaking of BD hate, i also think Midnight himself will have a similar situation of "hate from uninformed people" where it doesn't come from places like "knowing about the Doom community", "evolution of nerd culture/fanbases", "how internet content works and how it changed" etc. Again why i thought DoomKid was an interesting person to ever interact with him. Otherwise, one could look at other modern Doom e-celebs and make similar judgements.
Anyway as for other posts worth checking:
Brutal Doom focused stuff.
"Things that may've not happen if not for the Doom fanbase".
How "Eternal" is Doom?

5 Open Source Alternatives To Minecraft
It's not difficult to see why Minecraft is a top game for millions. And being written in Java enables it to run on a variety of platforms such as Linux. There are a lot of Minecraft enthusiasts who would love access to the source code and begin to work on it. Unfortunately, the source is not available to the general public.
More Great Content
Online course for RHEL technical overview. Download cheat sheets. Find an Open Source Alternative. Read the most popular Linux content. Find open-source resources.
There's good news. Many have tried to recreate Minecraft and other similar games with open-source software. Are you looking for a free Minecraft alternative? Here's a quick overview of some clones and derivatives out there that you ought to investigate.
These projects are at varying levels of completion and meet a number of different goals. Some are trying to replicate the Minecraft experience completely or at the very most provide a very similar experience. Others are taking the voxel-based gaming concept to completely new levels, and still others are really more of a framework to assist you in creating your own game or create.
Minetest
Minetest is the first game on our list. Minetest is perhaps the most complete alternative to Minecraft that is described as a "near-infinite-world block sandbox and a game engine." It supports multiplayer as well as subgames. It also comes with several terrain generators as well as various default biomes. It also features a very user-friendly API for creating mods in Lua.
Minetest is open-source under the LGPL. It is written primarily using C++, which is much faster than other scripting languages. Minetest can be used on Windows, OS X and Linux as well as Android, Linux, Android, FreeBSD and possibly other operating systems. Check out the source code on GitHub.

Terasology
Terasology could be the winner of the best rendering engine prize in the pack. Its shadows are stunning and frightening. This game was originally an experiment in the creation of procedural terrain. It has since evolved into a fully-featured game that includes multiplayer and a variety of add-ons that allow players to play with different techniques.
Terasology is written in Java and released under an Apache 2.0 license. It is a Java-based application and can run on any system that is powerful enough.
Terasology screenshot, Terasology Code repository, Apache 2.0.
Voxel.js
Voxel.js is the only one on this list. It's not a video game , and does not claim to be. Voxel.js instead is an JavaScript library that lets users to create their own Minecraft-style renderings, games, and other interactive widgets, using JavaScript or HTML. It can be embedded into any website without the need for any special plugins.
Voxel.js can be used in a variety of related projects. This allows you to make use of as much or as less code as you'd like when developing your game. The main library, voxel engine is a basic engine for rendering small-sized scenes, but there are over 200 additional add-onsavailable. Take a look at the gallery to get some ideas of what others have created using the engine. The main engine is licensed under a BSD-style licence; other add-ons might be licensed differently, so it's worth checking before you make any assumptions.

TrueCraft
TrueCraft is designed to be very like the original game. It is described as a Minecraft implementation, not an imitation. It is compatible with official Minecraft server versions. TrueCraft's author seeks to implement beta version 1.7.3, which he considers "nearly perfect" during the development of Minecraft. A snapshot intentionally frozen in time, TrueCraft seeks feature-parity with Minecraft.
Because it is so similar to the original game, TrueCraft has taken great care to avoid copyright issues by permitting developers only to code that they haven't decompiled or had access to the source code, although those who have access are encouraged to contribute in different ways. TrueCraft is written in C# and is open source under an MIT license.
TrueCraft screenshot, TrueCraft code repository, MIT license.
Craft
Craft is an open-source voxel engine which mimics Minecraft. Its development appears to have slowed down or stopped, but there are over 200 forks, including many (such as the school project not2bad-craft) with major improvements. If you're interested in creating a Minecraft-like game Craft's simplicity could interest you. The game engine is only a few thousand lines in C code, and it uses OpenGL to render. It makes use of simple algorithms for terrain generation and other tasks and is stored in an SQLite3 database. There's also a Python-based multiplayer server which is worth giving the chance.
Craft is available under an MIT license.
Craft screenshot, Craft code repository, MIT license.
Other great alternatives
It is also worth checking out these other noteworthy mentions:
Freeminer is a different sandbox-based game is a sandbox-based game that is inspired by Minecraft and is based on Minetest. The creators want to make the game fun while retaining some of the best elements. It comes with installers for Linux and Android. ClassiCube is it is a Minecraft Classic clone, is written in C#. It is open source under the OpenTK license, and runs on Linux, BSD, Solaris, Windows, Mac OS, and in browsers.
And there you have it. This is not a comprehensive list. There are plenty of options available that you can explore. As more people start to play these games, or even create their own, we'll definitely discover more possibilities. Servers Which one do you prefer? Which one did we miss that you wish we had covered more?

I've been watching a bunch of Rivals of Aethers mod videos tonight and as impressed as I am with the quality of these mods, I am beyond frustrated that nobody has attempted to make a Zeeky H. Bomb character yet.
So for the uninitiated, Zeeky H. Bomb is a character from an old ass Flash movie called "The Demented Cartoon Movie", whose main gimmick was saying Zeeky Boogy Doog and causing massive nuclear explosions. It was later imported into MUGEN, an open source Street Fighter-esque game. In it, Zeeky was one of the most busted characters ever, sporting many spammable projectiles and even a handful of cheap OHKO moves. You can experience the horrors for yourself below.
youtube
So here's my vision for this character having played exactly zero seconds of Rivals of Aether because why tf not I have nothing better to do.
Imagine if you will, this bomb with a goofy ass smile that has literally zero close-combat options, but has a volley of projectiles that it can use to try to keep you away. It can spawn stickmen that just run forward and go Blah. It can lob smaller bombs at you. One of its moves plays a jingle and a watermelon on a rocket and that exact same goofy face barrels in from off screen and dashes into you. One of its moves creates a button that if stepped on will spawn an anvil from above that squishes you. This annoying little shit is just constantly trying to wall you out, but if you can get in then you basically have free reign to combo the loving crap out of it. To give it some capacity to do combos I guess it could have some not particularly strong physical moves, but I consider this optional to my vision.
Of course, to honor its source material, one of the moves that Zeeky can do is utter the cursed words, "Zeeky Boogy Doog", which if allowed to be uttered to completion without being hit, will trigger a massive explosion which will deal lots of damage and knockback to all enemies, no matter where they are. To keep it balanced, it could be charged through a meter of sorts that gets built up throughout the match. Maybe it can be charged up like Cloud's limit break in Smash, maybe it increases over time, maybe it goes up when you get hit. And the knockback & damage could be dependent on how close Zeeky is to its opponent, so you can't just run to the other side of the map, go Zeeky Boogy Doog and yeet your opponent while they're trying to recover.
Now why the hell would one implement this? idk, as a joke character I guess. Or maybe it could be turned into an actual viable character. Who knows? I just think that since the modding scene for Rivals reminds me of the era of MUGEN videos on YouTube, that it would be a cool historical nod to bring in this horror to the game as well.

Granted, I was playing during the weekend, but it was amazing to see several free-roam and RP servers filled to the brim with players who refuse to move on to flashier pastures. Even after 15 years or so, SA-MP and MTA are far from being robust experiences; these modifications are unstable, network problems are common, and the quality of the overall experience is highly dependent on the servers you choose to play on. San Andreas might be bursting at the seams when it loads up a heavily modified stunt server filled with custom assets, but or even ! They may be lagging all over the place, but the performance, it seems, is part of the charm. In some players' eyes, the starting place is better than the finish line. After all, the biggest minds behind them have come and gone, and few of the original devs who have probably moved on with their lives and jobs remain improving code and reworking ideas with no end in sight. When you take a look at the current state of development on both mods, the work structure appears to be anything but centralized. Power to the people, I guess. We can come up with a fairly reliable timeline of events for both modifications though. By the time SA-MP 0. Unsurprisingly, cheats and exploits arrived shortly afterwards, and quickly after the release of 0. In less than one day, however, a huge online petition gave them enough strength to crack down on cheaters, closing the main exploit and coming up with a built-in anti-cheat system. SA-MP continued to be improved for years with smaller but much-needed updates, but its history gets fuzzier from onwards, with the main development team often quitting only to return a few days later. As work on the massively popular modification progressed, it became abundantly clear the minds behind it were overwhelmed by the success of something that had started as an experimental project — Kalcor was finally done with SA-MP in Nowadays, development is fragmented at best, but servers abound, and the community still feels like a big family always open to help newcomers. Moreover, the approach to MTA always was open source, which allowed it to incorporate new ideas and improvements at a faster rate than SA-MP ever did. And — with the scene looking happier and healthier than ever in — perhaps the studio will continue to do so, too. Is the Mario movie secretly an Uncharted movie? Look, we need you.
