So I've been thinking lately about how Mithrun is Kabru's dark mirror (more on that another time- it needs its own post), and I thought it interesting that one of their parallels is that they were both cared for by Milsiril, but in opposite directions. She took Kabru in as her foster after he was orphaned and tried to convince him not to become an adventurer. On the flip side, she helped rehabilitate Mithrun specifically so that he could rejoin the Canaries.
And I kept wondering: why?
For Kabru, obviously she loves him a whole lot- despite any other shortcomings in their relationship, I do believe that.
So I get why she tries to convince him not to go dungeoning, and, failing that, at least prepares him as thoroughly as she can.
But why help Mithrun? She used to hate Mithrun, but after realizing what a secretly twisted person he was, she actually thought of him more positively (oh, Milsiril). So it wasn't as if she held the kind of grudge that might motivate her to make his already-depleted life even more miserable by sending him back to the dungeons. And it wasn't that she felt bad for him either, since she didn't visit Mithrun for the first ~20 years of his recovery.
The Adventurer's Bible says that Utaya was the impetus for Mithrun returning to the Canaries, but Milsiril is the one who made the trip to see him and tell him about it.
Why would Milsiril work so hard to get her old coworker back into fighting fit? Why encourage him to return to such a dangerous lifestyle, when she was the one who chose not to mercy-kill him?
That last panel is such a crazy thing to hint at and then never elaborate on. Without it we could have just thought that Milsiril wanted the Canaries' work to continue without her, even if it seemed out of character. I think some people even assume she's just a natural caretaker as a foster mom and handwave it to include nursing Mithrun too. What could Milsiril's suspicious motives be? What does she gain from Mithrun joining the Canaries that isn't an altruistic desire to see dungeons safely sealed? Feeling a sense of responsibility for the work she left behind isn't an ulterior motive.
My theory is: Milsiril, knowing that Mithrun was empty save for the burning desire to face the demon again, wound him up like a clockwork doll and pointed him back at the dungeons.
Hoping that he'd eliminate the biggest threat to Kabru's life, before it was too late for him.
Milsiril the puppetmaster.

“Jake is annoying” my brother in Christ I respect your opinion but if I had lost my grandfather before being on a survival reality show and my grandmother during a survival reality show and I just got out of a toxic relationship and I scored with a mysterious twunk and then immediately discovered he’d been hiding the fact he was a government spy and saw everyone I was close to including my living grandmother figure brutally die only to be told it was a VR bit and then after that I was told by one of my closest friends that my spy boyfriend who had just trusted me with some major shit was cheating on me then yeah you’d probably have to lock me up I think he’s handling this pretty well all things considered

If I had a nickel for every time that Alastor looked like that and wasn't able to finish his song I'd have two nickels.
Which isn't a lot, but it's funny he was interrupted twice like that.

beanie, dear, im still thinking about your fairytale au bc i love love love the notion of artist/art and usopp's "he is not in love with his sanji. but maybe this one. maybe this one is someone he can fall in love with" and sanji just is *his* sanji but differently, and sanji calling it fate, im so so weak for this, the potential of soulmates without the pressure of world dedicating soulmates, usopp setting sanji free through sheer force of imagination and love bc he loves his stories and he loves the lost prince in his stories and he deserves a happy ending, and sanji does too, and sanji's "let me have this" and maybe, probably, certainly they have known each other their whole life, have always been with each other in their hearts bc they are meant to be, and im so happily insane over this au, so thank you for planting this into my head ❤️❤️❤️
I'm so insane about it too and I am so so so glad you liked it this much!!! I was in the middle of work and somehow that idea appeared in my mind out of nowhere- Loving my brain a lot after that tbh.
This was supposed to be more of an "artist that creates sculpture/character and they come to life and fall in love" type of thing. But I think the uncertainty of it all and not knowing exactly whether Usopp made Sanji or not, but Sanji wanting to believe he did because he trusts Usopp with his own life and fate and likes to think their hearts were linked from the start... It's just beautiful. Maybe it's a mix of both things, y'know, I haven't thought that much about it.
But maybe Usopp had recurring dreams about Sanji, when he was a kid. About actual Sanji and future Sanji. And he just... Started drawing and writing and fell in love with the whole idea of him. It's sort of ridiculous and he never told anyone, but I'm pretty sure Usopp was too invested in Sanji and fell in love with him. But the dreams were always so sad and heartbreaking he wanted to give him a happy ending, so he wrote about his sister helping him escape and the guy finding another home, and suddenly the dreams started to change into something brighter and better and happier.
So maybe they were linked by heart and that's why Usopp dreamt about him, but also, maybe, Usopp had the power to change Sanji's story just by writing it down somehow. It'd also be cute if Sanji had this superhero in his mind ever since he was a kid (Sogeking) because he dreamt constantly about him saving him and once Enies Lobby happens, Sanji has to stop for a moment a process that his hero is Usopp.

nobody ever talks about it,
but i feel like it's always important to remind y'all that the 10 episodes in which BotBots takes place in don't (usually) happen back-to-back, so here's a post about it because it's kinda fucked once you think about it.
TL;DR: the implications of how much time passes in this series are terrifying and the fact that the lost bots didnt lose their minds has me rolling a little
unrelated steak cuts pride hcz bc i need 2 spread more propaganda and also to catch your attention >:]
(Burgertron's are the butch, genderqueer, transbian and ADHD flags, Bonz-Eye's are the gnc, butch, nonbinary and autism flags!)
There's gaps in time between each episode, even with the half-n-half episode format, with very few exceptions.
Ep 1B, (Never) Be Yourself, takes place the very next night, right after 1A (Mall than Meets the Eye), and in episode 10 it's established at the beginning it also takes place the next night, after 9B (Shopping Brawl). Hell, Dimlit in Love and On the Bot Prom Dancefloor have a gap in time between each other-- Dimlit states it's been 6 days and 11 hours since he and Jackie started dating in OtBPD!
One of my friends, @knavewoods, did the math on it, and because the earliest date mentioned in the show is February and there's a Halloween/Christmas pop-up store, they estimated that by that point the Lost Bots had been at it for 7 months at LEAST, and that by the time of the finale it'd have probably been a year and a half because of the Science Alliance episode having a beach theme to it w/ the implications of it being summertime. (Not that either of us think that the Bots know what seasons are, but it's compelling evidence!)
A year and a half.
That is a LONG time to be isolated from literally everyone you've ever known and loved, and not only that but the Lost Bots are being actively BULLIED half the time. Sure, they have allies like Lady Macaron and Jackie, but like. There's no way that ISN'T insanely upsetting to any of them, ESPECIALLY Burgertron.
Imagine having your girlfriend play Hot-N-Cold with you for a YEAR AND A HALF. Idk about y'all but I'd be fucked up about that too.
And not only that, but the finale establishes that Spud basically had it out for BT from the start. Imagine trusting someone so much that theyre your BEST FRIEND and it turns out they hated your guts the whole time and was basically the reason everyone wanted you gone forever for a YEAR AND A HALF. I don't think i'd be able to recover from that for a while.
I don't know how to close out this post properly, so just. like. look at them and then absorb the words im saying into your brain ok? ok. bye :3
