my abysmal steam stats told me i only played 5 games this year so I need to get back my gamer license, backlog is like 75% VNs though what's up with that (there's only 4 games but. well)

had a really long blogpost (basically a 'look at all the things you did this year you didnt waste it' thing thus the above lists) but i think i'll just keep it to my notion notes lest this post becomes a traumadumping ground ecks dee tl;dr failed a Very Important (to me) Thing early 2022 that kind of shattered any crumb of self-esteem i had and made me question everything i did onwards (especially in regards to doujin stuff) and then basically physical health issues affecting mental health and vice versa which is fun but fuck it we ball.....(try)

don't really have any solid 'resolutions' (that i would remember to do) other than to 'live' more than just 'survive' as edgy as that sounds 🥴oh wait oc zine yea yea and go into illustration full time h-haha........... should really get around to making a patreon/fanbox but i really hate the idea of paywalling

Uhh ok. so I'm going to breeze past a whole lot of problems with this question and just skip right to explaining a few things...

I think most of us were well aware that Brendon wasn’t straight by 2008, but we weren’t really searching for a label… some fans thought he was gay & still figuring everything out, while others guessed that he was probably bisexual. It really wasn’t a big deal. We just knew that Brendon was definitely into both girls & guys nbd.

First of all, people didn’t talk about their sexuality as openly in 2007 as they do now. It usually wasn’t part of an identity that you put in your bio or whatever. (Things are totally different now, but I just want to add that not having a public label still doesn't make you any less valid. I completely relate to Brendon now on the “sure, you can call me pan if you need to” concept). The important point is that your sexuality wasn’t really a common or easy-to-discuss topic in the mid-2000s. So even IF Brendon never said a single thing about it or just focused on talking about liking girls in interviews, that still would've been a pretty normal approach.

But Brendon was unusually open about liking guys if you were paying attention. I’m not talking about how a lot of people online called him gay during the Fever era because he “carried himself like a girl,” did the stage gay stuff with Ryan just to make fans lose their shit, wore mostly girl’s clothes, or spontaneously broke into dances like this onstage. That is not "evidence." I’m talking about actual info that Brendon intentionally chose to convey to fans (btw this is super weird for me to look back as an adult and try to talk about how people were sexualizing an 18-year-old, so please keep in mind that I’m just like trying to outline the fandom and events here ok).

So the band’s first UK tour in late January 2006 was when I started to notice that a large amount of gay teens seemed to be in the fandom purely for Brendon (more specifically, for Brendon’s butt). There were absolutely stories of guys hitting on Brendon that season, but it mostly sounded like Brendon was just embarrassed & shy like usual with that kind of attention. Yes, he claimed he was straight in interviews in spring 2006 and we’d get gems like this Kerrang cover (the actual quote from Brendon was “I support it, but I’m not gay”):

I got the sense that many of those types of answers later that year were out of frustration with the assumption that the guys must be gay if they were defying gender stereotypes. For example, this October 2006 interview in Munich asked if the guys were gay because they wore makeup and Brendon answered “that’s probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.” He seemed to have had enough of that kind of assumption at that point. However, Brendon was still comfortable giving answers like this one in August 2006 (he didn’t shut up about his love for Freddie Mercury from the start).

Anyways, by summer 2006 there were some rumors about guys who’d approached Brendon and hadn’t been visibly turned down (I’m trying to stick with facts here and not get into rumors… but I think it’s worth noting that those types of rumors existed by that summer and that the rumors over the years didn’t reflect negatively on him in any way). And then on July 19th Brendon intentionally chose to wear this bandana out to greet a huge crowd of fans after the show. This picture became really popular along with a screenshot of the gay hanky code (which you can google on your own):

When the Pretty. Odd. era started in early 2008 Brendon was actually telling the occasional crowd that he was into guys. He struggled throughout that year to gain autonomy and regain some control onstage, so I was proud to see how he was able to defiantly make it clear that he liked guys at the final show of the Pretty. Odd. era. Here's a contrast I made a while ago of the same part of the show during the first and last tours of the Pretty. Odd. era just because I think the growth is neat:

He was also a lot more comfortable in interviews when the topic came up... like on this interview around July 10, 2008 he just laughed and basically said he’d seduce guys with the same song he picked to seduce girls:

I also thought it was interesting how in 2008 Spencer went out of his way to make a point in multiple print interviews that Brendon could be gay. He left space for that valid possibility and showed that Brendon would have his total support... but he also made it clear that he wasn’t going to say anything certain until Brendon did. This could've easily been because Spencer was just trying to voice his support for LGBTQ+ rights. Maybe I read too much into some comments at the time simply because Spencer seemed to be quietly watching out for Brendon in other ways that year and was often visibly tuned into how he was doing. I don't really want to project any motivation onto Spencer now so I'll just leave his determined silence here instead lol.

Anyways, this is by no means a comprehensive list. It’s just a few points that came to mind right now and I’m mainly focusing on stuff that Brendon chose to share with fans as he was figuring out life. He wasn’t hiding with those actions or statements. They were noteworthy for that time period, and the part of the fandom that paid attention to the irl band understood that Brendon was also into guys nbd.

OHHHH my god pls i’ve been waiting ages for someone to ask. this is long sry. im kissing u on the mouth btw

ok realistically i know a perfect hyyh live action would not be how i imagine it bcs it hinges so heavily on specific korean working-class experiences which a good soundtrack would help emphasize. and unfortunately i dont know enough about korean culture circa 2000-2010 to build smt truly loyal to this vision. so obviously my playlists are incredibly self indulgent and tailored to the music i listen to and very much wips anyways so obvs not perfect :’))

REGARDLESS tho i think an effective hyyh soundtrack should ground the characters in the setting and express the conflict between their ideals and desires vs their reality. i think it would need to be used to anchor characters in their own and their parent's past in a way that still feels very modern? and a good way to do that would be to play around with american music. seok-jin spends time in america and very well might be american, my heart of hearts tells me yoon-gi loves jazz as well as hip hop, hell even just the fact that bts' style came from a lot of american influences makes american music smt that could rly help build that clash between the low-income korean setting and the trapped and hyperfixated-on-utopia characters if used correctly.

as for when each song in my playlist would come in, it depends! some are there for vibes, others are there for rly specific reasons and i could write whole essays for each but here's some commentary on a fave few <3:

dr dog - where'd all the time go: my perfect hyyh adaptation would explore seok-jin's american identity/non identity much more than the notes. i picture this one as an credits scene of him landing back in seoul from the states circa 2010

st vincent - laughing with a mouth of blood: mostly vibes but i can see as seok-jin refamiliarizing himself with song-ju and slowly hears how everyone is doing now

bruce springsteen - backstreets: mostly vibes but i can see it as a tae-hyung song, same as most of the 70s music on here

j cole - for whom the bell tolls: an introductory nam-joon scene, maybe 17 december year 21

f+tm - back in town: on seok-jin's walk home after his drink with nam-joon on 14 july year 22 (in my perfect adaptation seok-jin is in love with nam-joon. nam-joon knows this. seok-jin doesn't. they stay not for each other but bcs of each other)

(a/n: i know technically that senior year should be 08-09 but i'm a sucker for some time jumps, oops btw theres going to a sort of limbo style chapter after this one. also i want to mention that i will be talking about the 'troubled teen industry' and how its a load of bs)

Senior Year, 2009

The summer before the start of senior year had been one of the best summers of both of their lives. Corroded Coffin won a battle of the bands competition to play at the local Warped Tour in Indiana, which ended up being a road trip that somehow Julie was able to convince her parents was for senior year college prep classes for a week.

The week of Warped came at the end of July and they spent it at small gigs around the area of where the festival was going to be held. After one of the gigs, early on in the week, Julie and Eddie had found themselves somewhat high and wanting to find a quiet spot at the after party. When they did, it didn't take long for the weed to let a boost of confidence allow for him to tell her how much she meant to him.

She listened, where her heart would have been beating out of her chest, the weed seemed to have calmed her enough to allow it all to happen the way it did. Taking her hands into his she reciprocated it back, "i'm always going to be here for you and I always knew you were gonna make it-" his voice cutting her off but softly saying, "and now that we're here I want you beside me for all of it." No more needed to be said, by the look in his eyes, she knew what he was scared to say, she was scared too, but nodded. The nod, letting him know that this was happening. There in that room they shared their first kiss and then some. They left party that night with a new sense of peace and holding each other's hands. Stupid goofy smiles on their faces as they prepared themselves for the rest of the week.

The festival itself ended up being insane, their set wasn't huge but she was able to record it for their page. Even from the stage they were on Eddie kept looking at her the whole time. With each song they played their crowd started growing until there was a decent size of people gather moshing and head banging along to the band. They were all red in the face by the end of the set and in the back of his head Eddie was thankful his girl packed the sunscreen, but it didnt stop the sunburn from still getting them.

Being in a band that was blowing up in popularity, having a beautiful girlfriend, and trying to graduate high school was a shit ton of pressure that Eddie had never thought he would endure. Most of his favorite bands were made up of drop outs, but he knew Julie would kill him if he didn't walk the stage with her. Despite his hate for school and Hawkins itself, she was the angel who he would fight this hellscape for.

While he assumed she must have been having an easier time with it all, in reality Julie was having the hardest time keeping her parents from finding out about her relationship. She wasn't ashamed to be seen with Eddie, most of the school if not all had already seen her pictures of the new couple on her myspace and live journal. The only people who were out of the loop were her parents. She knew they would either kill her or him if they found out.

All her physical photos of them were kept hidden in a box filled her old memories from elementary to more recent stuff like birthdays with her best friend, and now Eddie and her at the festival. He knew to some extent that it would be a while before she could have that talk with her parents, in all honesty she was waiting for her eighteenth to come around so she could leave in case it all went to hell, which she felt it probably would. It wouldn't take that long, just a couple of months.

Those couple of months went by so quickly with school work and parties/gigs every other weekend. Sneaking out had become so much of a habit it was basically a reflex she had perfected. December had come as quickly as senior year had. They had taken their senior photos already and were hoping to get them into the year book later on after Christmas break. Thankfully Julie knew some of the girls on the committee who could do it.

Sadly, she would be spending that holiday break with her family, nonstop. He knew it would be better to lay low until at least New Years, but that didn't mean that they weren't constantly talking and texting each other at every chance. She did her best to keep it private, away from her nosy aunts and uncles. It worked well for the holidays and even into the New Year, nobody had suspected anything and it seemed that she would be able to do things as she had planned. Both her and Eddie were excited, mapping out every city they would visit after graduation and where the band would start their tour at.

Cruel doesn't even begin to explain the way things happened though. It was a late January afternoon when screaming could be heard from her house. Inside her parents were fighting with her over the photos they had found with the excuse that her mom was putting away laundry when she saw the box. It was all out in the air now and she couldn't do anything but watch as they held her life in their hands. They didn't end up destroying anything, but swore there would be a punishment.

In a matter of minutes she had called her best friend to come take her things. Through bedroom window her friend Promising that no matter what happened, she needed to keep her things safe and hugging her with the hopes that it wouldn't be anything too serious. Then texting Eddie that she loved him, something she was scared of admitting and hoping to have told him in a better way, but she wasn't sure if that would even be a possibility now.

It had been two days since Eddie got that message from her, and since he hadn't heard from her at all. She hadn't been at school and any time he drove past her house he couldn't see into her room like he used to be able to. After the fourth day, her best friend delivered the punch to the gut, she'd spoken to him after school, handing him the pictures of them at all the parties and gigs. She mentioned how they'd sent her off to some boot camp, they never told her where exactly but simply told her to not ask for Julie again. That their influence on her is the reason why they had to take the measures they did.

The one good thing in his life was gone, the person who saw him as more than a fuck up, his girl wasn't here anymore. He had nothing left to lose in his personal hellhole, so he did what he shouldn't have. It only took two knocks for her mom to open the door, a look of disgust instantly appearing on her face. But he wasn't going to let her get a word in "yeah, yeah you hate me so fucking what?! She loved you two assholes! You didn't deserve the daughter you were given. You fucked up her mind and she did everything to try and please you guys like gods but even that wasn't enough. I hope you guys rot in hell, I really do. She was an angel and you clipped her fuckin wings." Sealing the deal he flipped her off watching as the old hag stood there in shock, then spit on the welcome mat she stood on before leaving.

Not even some days after that, he left Hawkins with the rest of the band. Before the hag and her devil husband could press any sort of bullshit charges, he left. His friends didn't care about graduating either, the band was their ticket out, he promised his uncle he would do right by him and Julie, where ever she was. The gigs came steady around Indiana and soon enough they were touring in other states. At one of the gigs Gareth ended up befriending the touring manger for Linkin Park's last tour and conversations led to pen on paper and signatures being written all over the place. There was no turning back for Eddie, it was here and now and it would be for her even if he never saw her again.

re: bree and andrew, i definitely started on andrew's side and then migrated to the murky middle where i'm like, there's no excuse to abandon your son, but bree was at her wit's end and andrew's behaviour kept escalating with no end in sight. i was quite impressed that the show got me to switch off from defending and delighting in andrew's reign of terror. i was feeling for them both, but bree was especially going THROUGH IT. that she was miserable abandoning him helped me understand and empathize with her better. which side are you on? :-)

i tend to not sympathize with bree a lot because of her political stance and her obvious distaste towards her son being gay.. out of all the wives she's probably my least favourite one but she's also kinda iconic? i don't know how to say it, i know all of the wives kinda got their thing that's super icky one thing that comes to mind is the intense anti abortion tone when julie becomes pregnant. so yeah gotta remind myself now and again that it's a 2000s show that is not meant to be taken super seriously.

but honestly i get where andrew is coming from? he's a teenie he lost his father because bree's boyfriend/fiance turned out to be a jealous homocidal maniac, she rejected his homosexuality even got a fucking priest in their house "to get it out of him"? teenagers act out when they're hurt and do stupid things to hurt the parent back, dfinitely not excusing some of the things he did btw lol because he did go overboard a lot

on the other hand i also sypmpathize with bree because she WAS always there for her children, she protected andrew when he ran over carlos' mother and she was always trying to be the best version possible for her children, i especially felt bad when she checked into the clinic when danielle decided to run away with matthew lol, one child in the middle of nowhere bc you put them there and the other runs away cause they dont wanna be found. it's just the leaving him in the middle of nowhere for me that scene is always super hard to watch for me especially when hes like mom? momma dont do it :( the little hurt boy is popping out

it's super harsh but then again she provided him with some money it's not like she left him without anything but yeah seeing how that affected her in following episodes definitely makes me feel bad for her!

a lot of it is dramatized for entertainment purposes i guess lol i don't think the average person would do this to their child but you never know... people be crazy out there

PriceWaterHouse Coopers auditors were also carrying laprops and writing reports and reviews all day long, comparing manufacturing prices to production costs and retailing prices and discount lists, so a VERY QUIET lonesome job, a desk all-night long hussle. there’s no Jumbo floor ACTION, no PAX stress whatsoever. sebi is lately training for this more SPORTY side of the GM JD, the shop floor, the interaction to teams, and PAX - no back-office stuff, which should thus be a weakness. enjoy, m

Random ghost!bobby hcs

I'm on ghost brainrot lets go

Ok so I originally said he died in a car accident

But I forgot to add

He died in like 2000

His cousin Trevor stole the songs

He was going with him to meet with a record exec since he finally worked up the courage to get back to music

And Trevor didn't really have attachment to the guys so he didn't care as much about credit

Anyways, as a ghost Bobby's kinda on his own the first few years

He tries to find the guys obviously but doesnt find them and loses hope that they came back as ghosts

He does haunt Trevor bad though when he finds out about the songs

2005 was kinda a big year though

He found out Trevor was having a kid, and though he may hate Trevor, he develops a soft spot for lil baby Carrie

Side note he'd been peacefully haunting Rose and Ray since he died

He had grown attached to them since they helped him through his grief before he died

By peacefully haunting I mean like what Reggie does to Ray

Just chillin, some one sided conversations

He attended their wedding btw

And was spiritually holding their hands when Julie was born.

But 2005 was also the year he met Willie

They quickly bonded over shared deaths

Also I'm kinda imagining Willie teaching Bobby to skate

They're Best Bros I decided

He sells his soul to the hgc whoops

Yeah at this point willie doesnt really doubt Caleb

and bobby has no outside attachments

since he can leave the club when he wants to check on the molinas

He was there at Rose's funeral

Willie was there as a shoulder to cry on

Bobby wants to be there for Julie since she seems to be taking the hardest with the loss of music

Anyways fast-forward to 2020

Julie summons the guys

And Bobby Knows

He doesnt know what he Knows but he Knows something is Up

After the Bright performance and Willex meeting and Willie telling him about this cute new guy he met, Bobby figures it out

He's excited

Like hes jumping up and down with glee like when jatp got the orpheum call

After Bobby explains why hes jumping up and down like hes just won the lottery

and willies just standing there in shock bc what are the odds the cute Alex you just met is the same Alex from your best friends dead band?

Anyways Bobby begs Willie for any kind of info indicating where the guys could be

Willie says that Alex mentions their (meaning my band and I (cue another bobby freak out session)) lifer friend Julie

And bobby just stands there in shock bc it can't be the same Julie right?

But it is bc they poof over to the Molinas to check and see the band finishing flying solo

and as soon as they poof in there's about 10 seconds of shocked silence broken by Julie who asks who the two ghosts are followed by 30 straight seconds of incoherent screaming and yelling and questions of excitement.

bobby is the biggest willex shipper since he knows both alex and willie so hes extra happy for them.

I would like to share my story how I decided not to sign up to Tumblr again:

I was on Tumblr from last 2013-2018 and on last 2020.

As a person with Autism, there was a downside on Tumblr despite it was my favorite and nice one to hang out:

1. Anonymous hate 2. Triggering posts (I started to hide, filter and ignore tags and posts after Jonghyun of SHINee died from suicide. Also year 2020 is full of sadness, tragedy and lost) 3. Friends blocking me. (Yes, there are people who blocked me either I'm a bot but I am a real person or they just don't reply to me at all. There are even some mutuals blocked me after we are having a quarell)

Although people on Tumblr say that I am awesome, creative, cool and all but I have weaknesses:

1. I easily became upset or angry over small things sometimes or even when it gets something wrong.

2. Sending a wishlist to the people I don't know. (Yes, because of the pandemic, I easily get bored staying at home that I made an Amazon wishlist: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/R7H5RSDT3VLH/?ref_=lol_ov_le&filter=unpurchased&sort=default&viewType=list and I realized that it's a bad idea that I made my promise that starting January 1, 2022, I will not send my Amazon wishlist to people I don't know them. It’s time to start thinking about Christmas lads!

I am very not joking btw. Today we got news from our freight forwarders that at one point this week, nearly half the container shipping capacity out of Asia was sat with their thumbs up their arses in the China sea.

The acute reason for this is ports in and around Shenzhen, China closing due to covid outbreaks, the bigger reason is that the shipping industry is absolutely stupid and constantly operating at max capacity so when anything goes wrong, it all goes to shit and this past 12 months has been a big one for things going wrong. Better get settled for an epic rant story time!

When covid hit China in early 2020, they closed down for lunar new year, which most factories close down for anyways but the length of time they were closed was increased to break the cycle of transmission. During a normal LNY, shipping lines essentially cancel sailings because no one is shipping out and seeing an early March slump in shipping demand they cancelled more sailings. Demand is always a bit high after this as you can imagine but it was increased by the LNY being extended and a sudden increase demand for goods in late March/April as people stayed home.

This demand started to really hit home in July when it became increasingly difficult to obtain space on a vessel. Also the increase in blank sailings (cancelled sailings) came back to bite them in the arse when months later in about November it transpired that as there had been a break in the normal ebb and flow of full containers out of China and empty ones into China, all the empties were sat in ports anywhere but China. This caused problems in not just for getting things out of China but getting things into container yards around the world as they became full of empty containers. In the UK this was a big problem for Felixstowe, which coupled with a few badly timed storms and a poor rollout of a new booking in system, meant that vessels just looked at Felixstowe and thought, ‘nah, I’ll come back later.’ Pressure increased on all UK ports as a result and goods were delayed by up to a month as the vessels offloaded at other ports in Europe before returning or even offloading UK bound containers on the continent to then be driven to the UK.

When all this was finally clearing up, it was LNY again so once again shipping lines operated at limited capacity. Then the Ever Given got stuck which not only had an impact on the vessels stuck behind it, but all the schedules went to shit so even if a vessel wasn’t directly impacted, it fucked the entire system.

Once the spectre of this latest shit storm was fading, there were cases of covid at Yantian port, one of the biggest in the world. The port was half closed, initially for four days but this dragged on throughout June. People started to look to nearby ports to ship goods but they too started to shut down due to covid outbreaks. So now we are here, with nothing moving, vessels sat waiting to berth in China and the prospect that the problems caused now will be causing further problems for at least the next six months.

Getting anything out of China is next to impossible at the moment and through all of this the shipping lines have hiked their prices to absurd levels. A container last year cost anywhere between $900-$2000 to ship China to Europe and people are now being quoted at least $17,000. Even then you aren’t guaranteed a spot, they’ll happily chuck you off the schedule if they can find someone willing to pay more for the space. They’re even fucking over their biggest customers as companies with massive contracts (think huge retailers) are having their booking cancelled because why give the space to a company that has a cheap deal when you can sell the space to someone else who doesn’t have that luxury of a good contract and is desperate enough to pay exorbitant fees. There’s like 12 shipping lines and if one hikes a price they all do and its all totally legal (legally they can’t discuss prices between themselves but informally they can see what their competitors are charging and independently choose to match it). It’s incredibly shortsighted because long term if the volatility continues, people will look closer to home for production, because if you landed costs are nearly nine times higher than they were a year ago, it’s no longer cheaper to produce goods half way round the world. This doesn’t even touch on the damage this does to small businesses which could go under because of this short sighted greed.

Anyway what this boils down to is that there are going to be shortages of consumer goods for at least another six to eight months. If getting the perfect gift for a loved one is important to you, get it now just in case because it will either not be available or it will be more expensive. Also good luck getting your hands on electronics even now, the chip shortage gets thrown in the mix for consumer electronics.

Tl;dr: the supply chain is utterly utterly fucked. Just… totally bollocksed. The shipping industry bounces from one catastrophe to another like a drunk man bouncing off parked cars and they’re not even attempting to sober up.

Telling the synopsis is not my job, what I need to do is to persuade you to watch and read this story!

I am the person who enjoys cutesy love stories especially if it is set on 70′s, 80′s, 90′s and early 2000′s, that is why this is a combo for me! I love the settings of the story may it be on the film or in the book. (btw, the events on the film took place between 1950-1965 i guess and in the book it was on 1990′s i think)

This book taught me how strong and powerful teenage love can be. It’s devastating yet attracting. It also showed me that you can’t ignore all the efforts that a person has done for you, because once he/she realized how tiring it is to love and not be loved, the person will gradually disappear and you’ll be the one who’ll wait, want and crave for the thing you took for granted.

For me, the most charming part of the novel is how beautiful Juli’s and her family’s relationship was. It was so dreamy. Maybe they do not have a luxurious life, but they have a warm one. Loving and caring. It was really lovely.

OK. The photo is at the CA State Fair exhibition center. The Fair runs July 12 thru 28. I got a free ticket because I entered the contest.

This feels weird, but here goes.

I am selling the photo for $1500.

The photo is a museum quality 20"x30" print in a matted 24"x36" museum quality frame with, you guessed it, museum quality glass that cuts 99% UV rays and diminishes reflections by about 50%. My entry is worth the $1500.

Thinking about it now, I should have asked $2000, but that is okay. Next time.

Costs:

The printing and framing alone was almost $500.

Since I do not own a car, about $85 for renting a Zipcar to pick up the print in SF and drop it off at the frame place in Sac. I chose the print place in SF because after my initial consultation I quickly felt I could trust them and so far in my two dealings with them I am more than satisfied--to me working with a team of experts I can trust who also make my art shine is priceless. I feel the same about the place where my photo was mounted and framed.

The Fair takes a 30% commission. Not a bad deal.

The cost of travel from where I live to SF to take the photo. And even if I was there for "leisure" travel, it should still be counted; when business folks do business lunches and/or business trips, there is often also lots of personal enjoyment time, so why not for me, as a photographer?

Why else am I selling it for such a high price?

Because it cost me lots of time and money to create that framed work of art. I see very cool paintings on 4"x6" cardboard selling at local cafes for $250 or more. Why should I charge less for a gorgeous, large, high quality piece of art? Why do we photographers so often sell our work so fucking cheap? (That one is for you, Lisa.) When you multiply the cardboard painting's cost of $250 times 6 -- (4"x6") x 6=24"x36" -- you get $1500. Sounds about right, no? And when you factor in the archival materials my photo is printed and mounted on, the price would be higher. Nothing wrong with cardboard art, but you get the picture.

No No pun intended. Not a fan of puns...

I spend time taking photos, figuring out the best ways to make a cool picture. I walk around. Ride my bike. I drive, fly, take trains to places. I travel to different places (SF, Oakland, Sacramento, Napa, San Jose, LA, Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, Madrid, Toledo) to capture pictures of exciting and visually interesting places. I spend a lot of time learning about those places. I spend a lot of time learning about photography and other art forms and now I am also learning a bit about the art of selling art. I take (paid) online courses. I talk with other photographers and artists.

I love all this, btw.

Once I have my photo files, I work on them in Photoshop's Camera Raw the same way painters and sculptors and other artists spend lots of time perfecting their work with their respective arts' tools. I bought top of the line equipment that is expensive but lightweight and will last me for years. Sony a7riii and lenses, Mac 27" desktop computer, Surface book. And then there are the camera bags and straps and filters and more.

I love all this, btw.

And fuck, yeah, I LOVE photography. I love doing this, but when you go to a fine dining establishment, do you ask the chef to give you a discount because they love creating delicious food and running a high price joint? When you are at a lawyer's, do you ask them to give you a discount because they love working with the law? Do you ask a doctor for a discount on surgery because they love what they do? When you go to a Depeche Mode concert, do you ask them to give you a discount on your concert ticket because they love what they are doing?

Marinate on that.

So yes, my work is worth it, just like the work of so many other amazing photographers who create images that take my breath away is worth a whole lot more than they usually charge. And I want all of us to start placing a high value on ourselves and what we love to do.

So I ask you:

Why should I sell my photos for cheap?

Why do so many photographers sell their work so cheap?

Or give their creations away?

And yes, for certain people and certain organizations, I would certainly sell my photos at lower costs and/or give them for free, but when it comes to selling my art?

$1500 for this one time.

And yes, my prices will go higher because my time and talent, just like all y'all's, is worth it. We all deserve to be compensated well for sharing what we love doing.

where to begin with this group.... Hmmm. Perhaps with the one at the center of it all.

This is Mindy. Every girl in her twenties and thirties has a friend like Mindy. The fashionista! Her glasses are on point! She always has a glass of wine in her hand but somehow magically is never drunk. She is soooo concerned about your drinking though. If you look confused for a second she is all over you. “Oh Hunny are you alright? You know that is your third mimosa right?” But you tolerate it because she really does care. Just look how she takes care of Olivia.

Also, how could you not love a friend who makes this face in a selfie?

This is Olivia. She has four kids and is just relieved to be out of the house. Extremely health conscious, she always brings a fruit platter to brunch and gets giggly drunk of one mimosa. Isn’t she sweet?

Her children’s lunches are flawless, her kids birthday parties are hits but she’s sweet and humble about being a rockstar of a mom. She somehow always has time for your man drama.

This is Joanne, a work friend of Mindy’s. She’s in her fifties with grown children and has empty nest syndrome. She makes a mean sangria and sings hilarious karaoke. And by mean sangria, I mean, black out drunk in three glasses. Joanne is not messing around. She’s great fun! Everyone Loves her.

This is Mindy’s best friend Libby, who started partying in the year 2000 and never stopped. She brings fire ball to brunch, gets drunk and tries to brush your hair. She is not a hairdresser btw. She is the office manager for an organic farm. Mindy is always watching out for her. Libby has a big personality but is kind and thoughtful. She always brings scrumptious delectable things to brunch, dishes with tons of calories and no guilt.

This is Chelsea. She also started partying in 2000. She brings Jalapeno poppers to brunch. She makes her mimosas with tequila and washes them down with Joanne’s sangria. You’re pretty sure her liver is either maintained by nanobots or powered by Satan himself. She is always five seconds away from either, a prat fall, an emotional meltdown or MORTAL DANGER!

he doesn’t act like a maknae at all, like legit…I thought san was the maknae. he’s super mature?? like?? I’m older than him and he seems 8000x more put together than I’ll ever be

GENERAL THINGS

again, I’ve said it, but they don’t seem like rookies. stage presence? on point. rapping and vocals? on point. dance? AMAZING. they work together super well, and I’ve noticed some rookie groups don’t seem like a cohesive whole for a few comebacks? they came out with predebut dance videos (if you haven’t seen those lemme know and I can post links for you), and immediately it was like hi holy shit these boys are a TEAM

they’re very hard-working, humble, and eloquent. I mentioned it with wooyoung but all of them but so much effort into how they respond to things, they take things seriously? it’s really amazing to see, honestly, it’s obvious they care a lot

they’re gonna be BIG, I think. they’re already gaining ground with popularity, sold out their first US tour only a few months after debut (they debuted in October btw), and they even had to change venues with a few concerts so they could accommodate more people after tickets sold out

one thing I’m sorta concerned about is line distribution? like this isn’t a huge deal with them as it is with other groups (cough nct cough) but…I dunno, it’s obvious their concept is very rap-based (they’re known for beat changes and drops that kinda hit you outta nowhere? amazing content) and I’m a bit worried that hongjoong and mingi will be overworked. like I don’t wanna compare but idk if you know nct – mark and taeyong get ALL the attention? kq has been doing a really good job of being aware of it and giving everyone chances to shine but I don’t want to see ateez become too dependent on those two and not give vocalists opportunities to show off in title tracks. AGAIN I LOVE THEM AND THEY’RE DOING GR8 BUT IT’S A CONCERN OF MINE LOOKING FORWARD/SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT YKNOW
