What do you think of Ariel's relationship with her father in the film and their reconciliation at the end?
Tumblr media
Thank you for your question! Ariel's relationship with Triton is incredibly nuanced and one of the most intriguing and realistic dynamics I've ever seen in my entire life, and that goes for their reconciliation too.
Triton has this mental block that enacts as such a barrier for him to effectively communicate with others. I don't know if it's the fact that he isn't able to access his emotions or that he goes into a different state when different parts of him are triggered, but he's very...limited in how he can interact with Ariel, and it's kind of heartbreaking.
In the opening scene, we can see Ariel's trying to hide the fact that she went to the surface from him multiple times. Which means, she definitely picked up a behavioral pattern of avoidance from her father as it pertains to something that might elicit conflict in some way. That "no, no, no, it's totally fine, don't look at that, that definitely didn't happen, please drop it!!!😅" energy. Where they differ is once the catfish's out of the bag, Ariel's willing to actively engage with him about it. She wants to speak to Triton on a deeper level, not only so she can have freedom to explore her identity, but also to let Triton know she isn't reckless about the danger she's getting herself in (she stays hidden when she's observing the events on Eric's ship and is so quick to retreat to the protection of the waters when Grimsby approaches them on the shore) and he can have a semblance of peace. There's also a component of wanting to work through the generational trauma that Triton is holding onto and is coloring so many of his interactions with her, specifically. But, this isn't possible, and he keeps shutting her down over, and over, and over again. Afterward, we see him display his typical 'rage and regret', where he does voice concern if he was too tough on Ariel to Sebastian, but he never apologies to her or changes his approach. Even then, his fix to this is to inflict the task upon Sebastian of enacting as a surrogate parent to Ariel so that Triton can keep close watch over her while remaining distant.
Then, the Grotto scene...the Grotto scene is incredibly violating and where I honestly think their relationship was forever severed. While they did have their restrictions and their wounds beforehand, this...this Grotto is a manifestation of the secret Ariel's had to keep from her father her entire life. It's literally hidden from plain sight, something she hadn't even confided to her sisters, and she jumps through hoops to ensure no one ever sees her entering or exiting. It's where she retreats to after Triton yells at her and she's visibly disturbed when Sebastian finds her in this self-enacting sanctuary. So, the fact that Triton invaded this space is humiliating enough. But then, the fact that he head-on confronts her about her love for the human world- after wanting to avoid it and silencing her for so long- makes her have to face these issues and the emotional turmoil it'll bring between the two of them, after years of being programmed to avoid it. During the scene, she's actively cowering from him, lowering her head, looking away from him, staying silent- first positioning herself in front of the statue as if to protect him from Triton's wrath, until Triton becomes physically threatening and she moves behind it. I think the final blow was when he was screaming at Ariel for rescuing Eric, to which Ariel responds in a manner that's characteristic of her and her mentality: "he would've died." To Ariel, there is no divide between her and a human. If she sees someone suffering, in pain, or in a position where their life is threatened, she always help however she can. Triton retorts: "one less human to worry about." This is why they will never be close. Ariel, despite her own trauma, never minimizes other people or their feelings or becomes hateful of other groups in any way and her hardships only heighten her compassion, whereas Triton's response to trauma is rage and divisiveness and hatred and bigotry. Then, he destroys the budding collection of his youngest daughter's life's work- the Grotto. Even when she's begging him, desperately, to stop. And when she collapses, in a fit of tears, while he does have a sad look in his eye, he just swims away. Why wouldn't he hug her? Or tell her he didn't mean it? I think it all goes back to the single cap that explains their relationship better than I ever could:
Tumblr media
He's screaming at her, his face framed and veiled via the power of his trident that he'd use instantly to violently destruct anything attributing to his anger, and she has her head bowed in shame and is silent, actively turning away. I don't think they ever could've recovered after this night. Even when Ariel has ascended to land, he responds the same way he had in the earlier scene to Sebastian- sitting in his throne room, wallowing about his destructive habits, and ordering his staff to search for his lost daughter. One of the things I do think the sequel got right was that, if Ariel's daughter was lost, she would definitely search the entire ocean for her. But Triton wouldn't. He still doesn't want to be vulnerable, to face her. He's showing his concern passively, through other people. Then, when he trades places with Ariel at the end of the film, he still doesn't really speak to her or look at her when she's apologizing. As he's shrunken into a polyp, and she calls out for him, her eyes brimming with tears, he can still barely exchange eye-contact. Yet, she immediately physically attacks Ursula- not once, but twice. At the end of the film, he does turn her into a mermaid, but it's done from a distance without communicating with her. When she hugs him, and tells him she loves him, he's still silent until he descends to the sea once more.
All in all, I don't think they're ever going to be able to live near one another again. I think Triton and Ariel's best bet is to love from a distance, and there's something bittersweet about that, but also relatable? As someone who's gay and who didn't have a supportive family, I sometimes fall into these mental thoughts where I ask myself why it had to turn out this way and I grow nostalgic for a time I never had. I suddenly become too aware of the fact that I don't really have a family, somewhere along the line I lost that intimacy and emotional connection with my sister and mother and it really does a number on me...until I spend time with them and am reminded why things are the way they are. I kind of touched upon that as an idea for a potential one-shot I might do in the future in the tags of this post.

Arlecchino's whole deal is unbelievable
Arlecchino: Huh I wonder what's causing my weird powers? I can't really worry about that right now tho, I've gotta become King and then kill my "Mother".
*Kills Clervie and "Mother"*
Arlecchino: Huh I wonder why I was able to defeat a Fatui Harbinger when I'm like 17 or so? I can't really worry about that right now tho, I've gotta be in jail and become a Harbinger.
*Is in jail for a while and becomes a Harbinger*
Arlecchino: Huh I wonder why I am-
Pierro: Hey what's up hello, anyways you're descended from the Crimson Moon Dynasty of Khaenri'ah. I'm sure that this is a lot for you to take in so-
Arlecchino: Ok.
Pierro: ...You're just cool with that?
Arlecchino: IDK maybe? I can't really worry about that at the moment, I'm a father now. This orphanage full of children I love (who also are child soldiers and are not allowed to leave or else I'll execute them except maybe now I'm just gonna wipe their memories IDK I'm morally complex) isn't gonna run itself.
*Runs the orphanage/spy recruitment initiative*
Me, the fucking player: WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU ARE KHAENRI'AN? WHY WASN'T THIS BROUGHT UP IN YOUR FUCKING QUEST?? OR ANYTHING ELSE????
Arlecchino, talking to me through my phone: I honestly don't know why you care, I'm too busy to give a shit. Anyways, I'm gonna go fight fate itself I guess. I'm sure that I don't share any thematic parallels with any other Khaenri'an characters (particularly as it relates to acting and family angst) and that I haven't made the idea of 'curses' on Khaenri'ans and what they entail even more complicated than they already were. See ya.
#arlecchino#genshin impact#pierro#WHY IS THE GAME FUCKING GLOSSING OVER THE FACT THAT SHE IS KHAENRI'AN?!#Not only that but she is the first Khaenri'an we've met (that we know of) who's from the Crimson Moon Dynasty#I'm so fucking confused#Did Celestia place a DIFFERENT curse on members of the Crimson Moon Dynasty?? Or is this stuff all of them can do???#HELP#She also seems almost...uninterested in the fact that she's descended from Khaenri'ah. Which honestly I think is interesting.#I don't know if I like it yet but when every other Khaenri'ah character has one of their major traits being that they super fucking#care that they are Khaenri'an (whether that be Kaeya with his paranoia/destiny/duty or Dain with his guilt over his failure/desire to#prevent our sibling from fucking with anything too much or whatever the fuck is going on with Pierro)#having a character who is Khaenri'an but doesn't seem to particularly be invested in that part of themself is different#she cares more about the curse and its effects on her then she ever really cares about the Crimson Moon Dynasty or the cataclysm#IDK I think it's neat from a character writing angle. or at least it has the potential to be if the writers do a good job.#But from a 'I like maybe 3 things in this game and one of them is Khaenri'ah' perspective it SUCKSSSSS#That part of the plot is already suffering from chronic live-service storytelling disease where people just straight up don't tell you#shit that they logically SHOULD BE TELLING YOU because the game needs to save plot points to build hype around#so for one of like 4-ish (depending on how much we count Albedo) Khaenri'an major characters to give us literally 1 and 1/2 voicelines#kinda sucks ngl. but again it's also interesting and realistic for Arlecchino and from that angle I like it#she doesn't care about what fate says her place in the world is. she's gonna carve her own and being Khaenri'an isn't relevant to#the life and identity she has built for herself. she isn't the type to look for answers she doesn't need. she's practical and efficient.#at the very least it's better than when Albedo 'I want to find all the world's truths' Kreideprinz doesn't let the audience in on his stuff

I will actually die on the "Huntlow is forced" hill because it makes absolutely no sense for either of them to get together.
Especially Hunter, who is attached to the Caleb/Evelyn and Philip drama... and last time I checked, Willow isn't the witch from another world who turned Hunter's world upside down lmao.

the fact that, as an author, i feel hesitant to write a character do something that isn’t morally ideal because the character is supposed to be likable. the character is still likable, he’s just not perfect, because that’s boring and unrealistic
purity culture is a curse on the arts

Tim literally did say that they’d be bringing back past characters this season, we know that already?? so i don’t know why people are freaking out about tommy guest starring, there are probably other characters returning too that we don’t know about yet. people are acting like it’s a secret that he’s back and therefore that means something?? abc are clearly taking all spoilers seriously, not just him 😅 and the love interest stuff is suuuuuch a reach. there is zero proof of this and i mean, come on…… possibility of first male love interest for buck and they choose tommy?? huh? 😂
Wait, they people are saying Tommy is back to a be a love interest? Oh, yeah, because they would totally take half of the couple most people want together, make him queer and immediately shove him with the 118 guy he replaced, who we don't even know if he met, and a lot of people get confused about because he only exists in begins episode, sure. We knew he was gonna make an appearance, and isn't Tommy, like, in some sort of special rescue crew? He's the one Chim calls who sends the plane with the water to that one huge fire in s2 isn't he? Buck ending up meeting him because he's unsettled and wants some specialized training makes a lot more sense than "oh they're gonna fuck" why does everyone jump straight to the "oh they're gonna fuck"? Also, taking half of buddie (any half), making him queer, and not putting them together, it's a dumb decision, because buddie is so intertwined that queer storylines for them need to be addressed together and to use someone we already know to create conflict between buddie when they already have love interests locked and loaded is just dumb. The chances of them giving Buck a male love interest are so low. And making said love interest Tommy? That would be such an insane move from the showrunners. This is a first season in a new network too, they're not gonna do something as risky as giving Buck a male love interest who's not Eddie right off the bat. Also, it's not the Buck show? Not every secret being kept is gonna be about Buck's storyline. Buck could be an entry point for something else. More people could be in the basketball game. They could be hiding stuff about the basketball thing because the script got leaked. There are so many possibilities, why are the specs always "they're gonna fuck"???????

New tricks
by MyBladeIsWorseThanMyBite
"Not allowed to participate" Hokuto grumbled, he was walking away from the stadium after watching Gingka's match with that arrogant new kid. He was feeling terribly indignant, "its discrimination!"
Hokuto knew he wouldn't have been able to win. Even with all his training, he was nowhere near the level of Japan's top bladers, but to not even be able to try! He had proven himself, he had made it to the Battle Blader finals, beating hundreds of other much taller bladers.
But nooo, just because he has four legs and a fluffy tail, poor old Hokuto is kicked to the curb.
But worst of all (and Hokuto would have a sob about this later, right now was he was too busy huffing) was that his best friend Gingka had just stood by and let it happen. After watching Gingka put himself on the line for his friends countless times, Hokuto couldn't help feeling abandoned.
"I'll show them, I'll show them all! The WBBA, Kyoya, Kenta... Gingka" he hopped on to a tram, setting his sights on new horizons "I'm going to make them acknowledge me, no matter what it takes!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gingka hit the ground, what was left of Pegasus scattered around his limp body. "HOLD ON GINGKA!!!" screamed Kenta, doing his best to check Gingka's vitals with violently shaking hands. Gingka drew a weak, desperate breath "I'm sorry Kenta" he whimpered "this was all I had".
"MUAHAHAHAHA" Damian stood above, looking down on Gingka curled up on the ground, looking down on everyone as the grim reality settled in their faces, "to think that this is the best humanity has to offer, it's pathetic" Damian doubled over in hysterical laughter, tearing up, until he ran out of breath and ended up wheezing.
A voice broke through the laughter "Too bad for you, it's not just humanity you're up against" everyone looked up except Damian, who was still regaining his composure, a hooded figure stood in front of Gingka. Kenta gasped, "Is that...?" The mysterious stranger spoke again, this time commanding Damian's attention, "I'm going to defeat you, and I'm going to save my friends." Damian let out a grunt of annoyance "how dare a gnat like you interrupt my victory", he flicked his hand and Kerbecs went flying straight for the stranger.
The stranger effortlessly stepped aside as Kerbecs shot past his head, blowing back his hood and pulling the cloak up behind him. There stood Hokuto, his once bright green headband dirtied, fur rough, and Kenta was close enough to notice a large scar running down his leg. But that wasn't what everyone else noticed, he was larger than before, rippling muscles, and an aura of strength almost as overwhelming as Damian's. His cloak came undone and flew away in the wind.
Hokuto pulled out his launcher, "Let's do this Libra", he felt Libra steady itself for battle "Let it rip!!" Hokuto launched his bey, feeling the friction of the gears, the resistance of the spring, the lagging inertia of Libra's growing momentum, the sensations of this movement had become known in every muscle, nerve, and cluster of brain cells in his body. The sense of balance, focus, and resolve, settling in his core as his spirit synchronised with Libra's, was as much a part of him as his tail.
Libra carved through the air, gaining energy as it accelerated towards Kerbecs, which had returned to its station in front of Damian. The turbulence whipped the water around it into a massive wave, but Libra still flew with a terrifying steadiness. "Libra, deliver justice!" Hokuto brought his paw down in a sharp strike, and Libra slammed into Kerbecs, throwing up a huge cloud of water and dust.
Damian felt the impact too, felt the crack along Kerbecs' Boost Disk, felt the heat rising in his cheeks and his heart pounding in his chest. "HOW... DARE YOU" the dust cleared and the two beys stood there, regaining their stance after the impact. Hokuto pointed at Damian, "You're in the dog house now, pal. The real battle starts now!" A green light began pulsating from Hokuto and Libra, and Libra began building up speed. "Destory them Kerbecs!" Damian screeched, and his bey's energy exploded, the beys collided again and again, each impact shaking the ground, until both beys began to falter.
Damian let out a sounds from the depths of Hades, his face a bright pink, voice shaking, "I simply can't! I can't! I can't lose to a fucking dog!!" Kerbecs began to vibrate, its energy becoming volatile, "Finish it Kerbecs!!!". It shot toward Libra, and missed, before swinging around and coming back even faster, this time making contact and nearly knocking Hokuto over. Kerbecs let out an erratic and wild barrage of attacks, often missing, but the energy of a missed attack would be added to the next hit.
"HOKUTO!! DON'T GIVE UP!!!" Blader DJ shouted, watching from a distance "Your our only hope! We believe in you!" the crowd began to cheer. Hokuto smiled "Let's finally finish this Libra", Libra started gathering energy and levitating slowly into the air, out of reach of Kerbecs. "Ultimate move! Destiny hammer!!" A perfect cylinder of solid energy thudded into existence around Libra, crushing Kerbecs beneath it, cracking the ground and boiling the sea.
The move ceased, and Kerbecs stood still, half stuck in the ground, Libra flew back to Hokuto's hand. "We did it bud" he whispered, then turned to face Damian "You're done for, pal, beyblades will never be weapons of war!" Damian said nothing, just staring off into space, mouth hanging open, a foundational pillar of his reality had shattered and now his mind was all over the floor.
The crowd began to cheer as Hokuto checked on his injured friend
"Thank you Hokuto!"
"You saved us!!"
"We're so sorry for kicking you out of the tournament!"
Gingka looked up as Hokuto sniffed his face "I'm sorry too Hokuto, I should have stood up for you" Hokuto smiled, tears rolling down his cheeks "I forgive you old friend, I missed you so much".
The crowd cheered as they threw Hokuto up into the air "Hokuto! Hokuto! Hokuto!"
The End

I know Quackity said "Don't stress if you can't watch every single POV and if you don't know all the lore" and all that, but it genuinely frustrates me so much that I cannot, realistically, know every single detail of the QSMP storyline. Even trying to just focus on the "main" story isn't possible since so many people are doing things tied to it, and so many unexpected things happen.
I don't really have a point to make with this post, I'm just venting my frustrations. I like knowing complete stories and knowing I can't do that with QSMP frustrates me so much.

Question I just thought of: does Léonys actually speak Rohirric at all?
Léonys spoke a little Rohirric as a young child, but being raised in an environment where no one else spoke it I think she forgot most of it, except for a few words that she most likely forgot the meanings of, and certainly didn't know how to spell. She likely asked Éogar to teach her, but he's busy, and before long she was busy, and as they don't live especially close to each other I don't think that went anywhere.
The thing is, Léonys is good at picking up new languages. I think that over the course of her adventures she picks up a fair bit of Sindarin, a little bit of Black Speech, and a fair bit more of the language the Uch-lûth speak. (Dunlending clans, I imagine, do not all speak the same language or even variations on the same language, but rather a number of different tongues with common roots in what was perhaps once a unified language. These languages may also have been intentionally estranged from their sibling tongues in an effort to keep a clan's secrets from the others, especially with Saruman's meddling and setting the clans against each other.) She also picks up a handful of words from the Falcon Clan, although I believe after the Unpleasantness with them she ends up using them as curse words, if at all.
But to the question at hand -- Léonys knows very little Rohirric. By the time she enters Rohan she is in a very bad headspace and not really learning. She knows a number of greetings and such that she learned from the Rohirrim in the Gravenwood, but mostly speaks Westron during her time in Rohan, limiting her communication to only other people who speak Westron.
I think she learns a little, post-war. Although she has decided to return to Bree, she doesn't entirely abandon her heritage in Rohan, and likely seeks out someone to teach her; however by this point the skill is not one of practical use, so it doesn't stick as well as the other languages she knows. I think she retains some greetings, anything she learned from Théodred, and one other thing: since "Léonys" is not an actual Rohirric name I think at some point she talks to someone who hazards a guess at what her given name might have been, coming up with three or four possibilities. (Most likely including Léofa, her actual given name. Yes, this is the same name as the little girl from the Glittering Caves. This is a complete coincidence, as I came up with Léonys' given name before I did that instance, but I like it so I'm keeping it.) She doesn't change her name, but these possibilities are a connection to her parents, so I think she keeps them close to her heart.
After the war, she may return to Rohan once (although I am not 100% on this), but throughout her life I believe she will have contact with Dunlendings of one description or another, so the ties to that language are a lot stronger.
Eventually one of her children will move to Rohan, I think, and I believe this direct link will cause her to learn a bit more, enough to be at least conversational. But that won't be for years and years.

my dad: ugh, i hate mike wheeler so much. he's such a poorly written character. he's a total asshole to everyone around him for no reason, he's pushed away his best friend for no reason, and he can't say i love you to his girlfriend for no reason. the way his arc was handled in the past two seasons makes no sense. and finn wolfhard's a terrible actor. half the choices he makes don't make sense, and half of his choices just feel cringy and forced, ESPECIALLY in his scenes with eleven. don't even get me started on the monologue. mike wheeler sucks.
me: you know, maybe he actually likes boys. that would explain almost everything you just said.

my dad: nah, dude. he's just really Bad At Feelings because he's a teenage boy
