I don't even have the right words to express this but it's so special to me that tolkien's appreciation and love for poetry and music is reflected in the fact that some of the best adaptations of his works are songs
characters in tolkien's works sing to each other about history, legends and long-gone heroes! and we sing to each other about them! GOD

Friday, December 1: Blind Guardian, "The Curse of Fëanor"
Nightfall in Middle-Earth was both a logical move for Blind Guardian as well as a swing for the fences: it wasn’t totally unexpected that they would go all-in on a concept album about The Silmarillion given the numerous Tolkien references they made over their previous five albums, but at the same time the grandiosity of the arrangements and choruses was a decisive shift away from the thrash they’d incrementally evolved from.  So while it wasn’t shocking that it actually worked, it was nonetheless a pleasant surprise, with tracks like "The Curse of Fëanor" sounding both like a natural continuation as well as something new and exciting.  Hansi Kürsch was in full raspy thespian mode, hollering and bellowing over his and Andre Olbrich’s lavish but squarely metallic orchestrations, while Thomas Stauch’s drumming balanced thrashy aggression with prog flourishes without losing sight of the overall momentum of the narrative.  This was Blind Guardian fully in their zone, distinctly separating themselves from the rest of the power metal scene and becoming a category unto themselves.

Now that I don't do drugs anymore, do I escape the reality of my feelings by fleeing into my writing? It may be so. Did I thoroughly edit 65000 words worth of writing in two weeks? Perhaps. Am I fine? No. BUT. Here's a picrew of me

in lieu of answering asks, mentioning anything of substance or actual character playlists i bring you todays epiphany: harvest of sorrow actually fits taal early life (or rather certain circumstances *cough* nmc *cough*) pretty well. wonderful excuse to listen to it on repeat. and with that i shall leave again.

My dad: “How can you listen to the same songs over and over again? Doesn’t it get boring?”
Me, autistic and listening to the Death Note Musical every day: “Nope”

finished with the new blind guardian album. hmm there’s no song that made me go crazy, but also none that i disliked, so it feels like a in-between album for me personally. some good lyrics though! there’s at least one piece in all the songs that i liked
maybe listening to it a bit more will make it clearer as well, that happens sometimes

Friday, May 26: Blind Guardian, “The Script for My Requiem”
Imaginations from the Other Side was the game changer, the record that established an entirely new lane not only for Blind Guardian, but for power metal as a genre.  The band had begun expanding their breadth on Somewhere Far Beyond, but their fifth album added a very specific type of grandiosity to their sound and delivered a new kind of bombast.  “The Script for My Requiem” was of a piece with the rest of the album, incorporating all of the band’s different attributes in a single track: Thomas Stauch’s drumming was rooted in thrash, as were Andre Olbrich’s riffs, but the guitarist’s composition and arrangement nodded towards mid ‘70s Priest and Dio-era Rainbow, and Hansi Kürsch most definitely enjoyed him some Freddie Mercury.  All of this was brought into clear form by Flemming Rasmussen’s intelligent production (nearly 30 years later, Imaginations remains arguably the best sounding record they ever made).  The only things missing were the Tolkien and Moorcock references, as “The Script for My Requiem” was one of the few Blind Guardian tunes that wasn’t about specifically about orcs or wizards, though the sheer surge of the chorus pointed towards the storming of Mordor.  But Blind Guardian truly found themselves here, and in so doing elevated the entire genre in ways that are still being felt all these years later.
