A celebration of Hindu tradition, Rakher Upobash is a holiday where thousands of Hindus in Bangladesh come together for fasting and prayer. Candles are lit and offerings are given to the god Lokenath Brahmachari, who is said to embody love in the Hindu tradition. Prayers are given to save family members from illnesses. They observe a strict fast and remain sitting absorbed in silent prayer until the candles burn out. Religious Festival  Followers of 18th-century Hindu saint Baba Lokenath Brahmachari observe a ritual known as Kartik Brati or Rakher Upobash every Tuesday and Saturday during the last 15 days of Bengali month of Kartik (October-November) at Lokenath temples.
