OBJECTIFICATION: BOOM! SOLID! NOTHING! IN FACT AMY IS IN HER... 50s? I can't count. She's been there for 36 years. and like yeah, she's maybe unrealistically slim, buuuut they gave her this neat hodge-podge armor that she made which bulks her out and the rest is like, Karen Gillen has slim arms, it's fine, and they did actually age up her face so she does look older and not like A M*ffat Fantasy older either

and younger Amy is also chill in this one, she's just vibing... well, she's not vibing, she's having a terrible time. but see beloooow on how that episode goes about writing her terrible time

PLOT-POINT: aaaand fuckn! winner *dings bell* it's all about herrrrr it's about her abandonment, it's about her relationship with Rory, it's about her ability to survive on her own and what it could do to her as a person, it's about the shit introduced on Day Flipping One (first episode)

and it does it well! scenes that in days of yore might have cut from Amy to centre on Rory and the Doctor (am reminded of her grief over Rory being erased from existence being undercut by the camera focusing on the Doctor, or about everything related to her with her pregnancy and Demon's Run)

this is the definitive Amy Exploration and while I've said I'm not the biggest Karen Gillen fan in the past, I think she was good in this! she has this kind of weariness to her, a bluntness, an awkwardness in the way she speaks and holds herself, the script and the makeup give her so much to do that doesn't mean she has to be attractive all the time, and it's so good for her ability Do Shit

COMPLEXITY: it sets up a neat Sci Fi concept in order to explore a very human relationship! the best kind of science fiction. like. no notes here, onwards

an episode in which Rory and Amy challenge the Doctor in how he treats people and his morality, specifically in how it also affects his relationship to them, and what that does to them (and also changes them)?

an episode in which Amy gets to say fuck you to the Doctor?

COMPANIONS MATTER: this one sidelines the Doctor for the companions! it's all about them, they make the choices, they drive the plot, the Doctor is there to do a bit of science and facilitate the story for and about them!

“GODLIKE” DOCTOR: see above point! such a good choice to put him in the Tardis and not have him present when Amy makes her choices (also because she might have just killed him lol)

the one Part where he takes control is the tragedy at the end, and he gets pushback for it, it's not a brilliant solve for everything that everyone claps at him for, it's a sad simple necessity that's got a streak of pragmatic cruelty in it and echoes back on his relationship with Amy, and while young!Amy doesn't get to react too much to that, I think it's fine, because older!Amy does and says goodbye to Rory and young!Amy would never quiiite get that emotion I think, simply because she didn't live it

she was a bit antagonist with her older self, but not being too weird about her being onboard, but I imagine there's a small part of her that might be partly relieved or slightly discount older!Amy because she no longer exists

the one thing perhaps is that we won't know what they told her, and because this show has depicted Amy being kept out of the loop "for her sake" before, it's not like... 100% unreasonable to imagine the Doctor and Rory might pretty up the story again

but not knowing how that goes down is fine. it's a little mystery at the end of the episode

PREVIOUS DOCTOR WHO: there's not much of that in here and tbh I don't think there has to be. it's about Amy, not the Doctor's past

“SEXINESS”: FUCKING! THREE FOR THREE!!! ULTIMATE EPISODE GIVE IT A PRIZE!!!!!!

INTERNAL WORLD: it's pretty cool, kept reeeelatively simple so it could be explained in the first few minutes, built upon slightly, but ultimately remaining quite tight so that the focus could be Amy's hideout on this strange little world where everyone died once

POLITICS: not much politics in this one, so we refer back to how it treats its female companion and it's the gold star winner of the whole thing

I mean, what can I say, Amy is a fully rounded character who's running the show and her relationship with Rory is explored, and the Doctor is having some fucked up morality, and it's got neat pacing!

it hasn't got anything that's actually "low" it's mainly just that not every episode needs to refer back to classic!who or have big political messaging, it was pretty fucking Solid!

one thing I would say that wasn't covered in the Rating is that I'm not vibing with this title. I understand where it's coming from (referencing back to kid Amy), but I think while it is examining that childhood anxiety, Amy is simply... not a girl. and in the grand *waves hands* everything of M*ffat, he really likes titles with "girl" in them, which is I imagine therefore not this writer's choice

Okay since I'm actually awake now, (proper) HAIR UPDATE! ❤️🖤❤️

I wanted to add this onto my post from last night but tumblr hates reblog photosets. Anyways I was very aware that posting my V in the darkest corner of an apartment with black hair wasn't really ... showing anything - but it was very much her vibe and that's been the point of this entire project, buckling down and learning Blender from nothing, reverse-engineering mods and systems I was only NEW to about a month or so ago so I could figure out how to bring 'back' her hair, but like ... even more how I wished it was.

And it's finally done (well ... structurally).

More development rambles beloooow ~

I'm not releasing this (yet) as I'd now put myself in 'polish' phase, where I'll be tweaking some physics and other stuff like the vertex painting which influences the shine - brighter hair colours look a bit too blown out at the moment, and I'm not sure if this is because it's too shiny or because of my custom normals (may have to tone them down a bit, idk). You can see what I mean below -

Shadows are also behaving oddly at certain angles, and I wasn't sure if it was a harsh lighting situation but upon changing the lighting up ... no. Something weird is going on. So that'll need troubleshooting (for lighter colours at least). Also some textures just are acting weird on certain parts when I don't think they should look that way so yeah ... more ... troubleshooting ahead. :V

I'm also going to look into if there's something I can do for the 'efficiency' of this mesh because I noticed some pretty severe frame slowdowns taking close up shots - though only sometimes?? Not sure what that was about at all. I'm assuming it's my gpu being pushed harder as I get closer to the hair, but upon changing the hair in the character creator to another and then back it just went away again? So no idea what the hell was going on there. It felt a bit almost like a memory leak, but I didn't do a check to see what my system was doing so I'll have another look if it happens again.

Possible (hypothetical) causes:

Could be texture size, these hair cards have 2k textures apart from the alpha (4k) which is double vanilla textures so that is also a possibility as a fix (though I'd be loathe to do it).

Double rigs. I noticed last night when in my rigging phase with UUH4V that reducing it from three meshes and rigs to TWO meshes and two rigs significantly improved framerate lag (I mean it was minor but noticeable enough) in the character creation screen, so it could hypothetically be something to do with calculations of running two rigs at the same time. If that is the case, I could probably just rig this to the Alt hair rig. Currently I'm using Alt's for the back and left side of the hair, whereas the fringe at the front and the curl over the shoulder is rigged to Old Rogue. I'll probably still keep using UUH4V just … one rig only.

Last in the list? Hair cards. There are a lot. Maybe too many. They're also of a higher poly than last time. That said I've looked at other mods with heavier polycounts than mine (what gave me the courage to push further in the first place after my very low poly attempt 1.0) that caused more obvious frame slowdown in just the character creator alone. I feel there is still a minor slowdown currently but it's on the edge of noticeable (like, 30fps vs 60fps). As it goes though, this is still pretty insanely efficient (thank YOU Hair Tools for Blender).

BONUS: Mods. Other mods. The thing I use to hook in a DLL for pose control. Could always be that?

So uh, guess that's what I'll be working on. I don't know how much time I should be spending on getting this 'frame efficient' considering anyone using this would be primarily be for screenshots, and given the specs I'm currently running (AMD Ryzen 5 CPU and an RTX 2060) are being re-classed as the 'bare minimum' with Phantom Liberty coming out, and I am planning on upgrades to my PC anyway.

We'll see? (Though in my heart of hearts, I have have had potato PCs for years and I want to support the lowest specs I possibly can). I dunno let me know what you think about that one as a possible mod user (and someone who actually reads these, wow).

Anyways all that matters is jesus christ I finally did this. I taught myself hair. From scratch.

There had been something like feelings there in childhood and even through high school but they died down once he met Celine. He was drawn to her fire and passion. He starts to realize that he still felt something when I drunkenly confess to him late one night at one his parties. As Celine starts to drift and his fears that she wants to leave him become fact, he falls even farther under the guise of heartache and drunken stares across the darkened halls of the mansion. He was generally flirty just like always but more touchy, a bit more open. Really, he didn’t handle them well because of everything else happening at the time.

confession — how’d the confession happen, and looking back on it, what are your (and f/o’s) thoughts abt how you both were back then?

Soooooo, I am the one that ends up confessing to him under starlight in a haze of drunken emotion. I mistake him for Damian and ask him if i can vent for a moment. “Damian” agrees and this leads to a bit of longing and guilt and god the LONGING. Her eyes are so full of love and lust and every emotion. She casually says how even though it’s cheesy she’s always thought of him as the brightest shining star, That nothing even compares to the glow that he gives off. That passion, that fire. There’s just no one else like him not in the whole universe.

Actor tells her that he actually drunkenly confessed to him rather than talking to Damian as she had originally thought somewhere in his drunken depression. Despite his feelings for Celine, he felt something soft and warm and light for the first time in what seemed like forever when she said that to him. He says that he feels the same. That marrying Celine was a mistake and he wants to make it up to her.....(she didn’t believe he had feelings since he was drunk and depressed and desperate but yanno)

Christ it was all a mess and sure does read like it. Still, something did come out of it in the end.

alright so i have. a lot of questions and thoughts on changeling physiology

tldr it’s quite unorganized so; asexual reproduction, shifting is a natural instinct but can be expanded through study and discipline, Form is easier to reproduce than Function, changelings passively absorb energy via background radiation, conservation of mass... ha, energy efficiency, regeneration is an aware but subdued/vulnerable state, you can sneak up on odo but not most changelings, exaggerated and inhuman movement, language and body language learning, Viscosity tm, vital organs exist, injury and physical tolerance, focusing the senses...

asexual reproduction. loads of possibilities here. they might split in two (which could mean they’re really all clones of one another or else slight variations on an original) or lob a bit of themselves off which then begins to form a new individual. they might fragment off and start growing more individuals from themselves until they’re mature enough to carry on, or they might produce spores!!! OR they might reproduce the way coral do. the main complication is that this is meant for simple or single-celled organisms and also maybe leaves them all more vulnerable to that Clone Problem of being wiped out by a single virus. but perhaps their ability to mimic other types of dna is involved in providing new individuals with a robust enough mix of original genes to be baseline Adaptable

also a problem with simple organisms is that they propagate Extremely quickly and tend to be short-lived and. unintelligent (think fruit flies) so - changelings could have a fair few ‘simple organism’ traits but are ofc complex in reality

the mimicry -- do they actually become the material?? if you scan a changeling as a rock, they have the make up of a rock. but what about more complex materials? or systems? like fire? that requires energy input. im gonna go with: 1. depends on skill level 2. some things like fire they can mimic visually, maybe even with proper light and heat, but does take energy to do so.

speaking of which HOW do they get energy. i think i rambled about this a little in another post, but basically im going with the idea that they’re sort of filter feeders on the dust of the universe... they’re just VERY energy-efficient and collecting these little bits of radiation being thrown around space is a passive activity. i.e. odo probs wouldnt even know he does it, even though he does it constantly.

um. conservation of mass. the biggest thing ive seen odo turn into is that blob-monster, which was maybe 10′x10′ ? 15 at most? large, but probably somewhat unstable, and not huge. the smallest thing in canon is probably the mouse. ive seen the idea that humanoid-formed odo might be. hollow? there’s no need for him to actually form internal organs or any of that, its all surface-level, and besides. if we’re going with the idea that they can reproduce Form more than Function, they wouldnt actually work. he doesnt even eat anyway, so why waste that kinda energy?

that said!! there are probably some basic object functions they can reproduce. im gonna say that maybe your average changeling isnt going to be able to make a microwave that actually microwaves (not without a great deal of practice and scientific understanding), but could more easily become a lamp, for instance, that does actually turn on. that means they have some ability for bioluminescence, but again that requires energy and would shorten the time they can hold that shape.

regeneration obvs. is a chance to re-acquire energy, but we’re told odo doesnt sleep - it’s still a resting state, but maybe he’s still at least somewhat aware of his surroundings, if a bit unable to focus. he certainly seems to still undergo thought processes, etc. but if attacked in this state, he’ll be quite vulnerable, esp if he’s just reached hour 16, but he wont be completely defenseless. WAY more likely to hide than retaliate though, esp depending on where in the cycle he happens to be at the time -- even if that werent also kinda his personality. maybe its like bein rly rly rly tired but ur brain wont keep quiet.

kinda enjoy the idea of changelings becoming a little translucent or misshapen when they zone out. it takes some effort, practice, skill to remain present. a habit!

im sure he doesnt really bother to maintain constant humanoid-shape unless someone’s likely to look at him. could see him MAYBE being caught unawares, on occasion, whoops. very rarely, but how embarrassing

on that note, if you’re able to sneak up on odo and surprise him, he might momentarily jump a little out of shape (like a cartoon, exaggerated). other emotions like disgust or haughtiness might come off a little exaggerated too

at large, humanoid body language is a learned language for changelings, even if they can pick it up very quickly

odo’s got his humanoid walk cycle down pretty good but probably not perfectly, actually. i sort of imagine it could be a little more flowing -- not always -- but if he’s doing something he normally doesnt do, he moves a little less like a human bc he hasnt practiced it enough

ok whats the viscosity of changelings? like..... really runny and liquidy? j.... jelly? i kinda refer back to single-celled organisms again. cytoplasm w control.

in fact odo probably has some very simple (or maybe very complex, considering, but able to disguise themselves accordingly. so simple-appearing?) organs going on in there as well as cytoplasm of some sort

they dont sweat, they dont bleed, they dont smell, they dont taste, they dont sleep

they DO see, hear, are tactile, and feel most emotions that humans do. some of that emotions stuff is cultural

losing a little tiny bit of themselves (injury, i.e., a bit chopped off by a weapon) probs doesnt really hurt much more than getting a scrape, but if u like chop em in half thats gonna be Bad. but most surface level damage is just like getting a haircut or something, no pain. re: that scene with odo stopping the turbolift like.... that could’ve been painful

another thought !! i like the idea of one limitation being that he has to have seen / experienced in-person / studied / encountered / been exposed to an object, person, or animal to really become it. that’s where skill comes in -- some things are going to come very naturally, like shapes that are common in the universe such as rocks or. plants, in star trek .  they can learn by description or by looking at images and making their best guess, but its not gonna be totally accurate. so - some shapes come from study, like humanoids, and others come more by instinct like rocks and dirt and water, like learning to talk.

You smiled underneath and heard Diego's questioning if we all found this funny. You giggled before pulling back Joel’s hands to speak “It's very funny but, listen Johnny, Dee is right, that is a stupid fucking idea and Diego, Johnny has a point too, you do always call him an idiot.”

Johnny turns to Diego and whines, “You see? Thank you, y/n. It’s nice to know someone thinks highly of me” What surprised you was Joel joining in on the friendly squabble and speaking on your behalf, “Hold on now Jon, she didn’t say you weren't an idiot. That stills stands, the point she’s making is, maybe Diego could not remind us that you are one every five minutes.”

Each one of you, apart from Johnny, began nodding their heads in agreement. Diego offered out a hand to him and joked “Forgive me, Compadre. What would the idiot liked to be called instead?”

Everyone was amused at watching the brotherly comradery between the two, even Johnny himself snickered while taking the hand Diego offered, he shook it then replied “Call me Princessa, Papi.”

Johnny squealed like a little girl when trying to run away from Diego, his comments and his actions had you and Jackie hurled over, convulsing with fits of laughter. Taming Party!

I’m a giant fangirl, so of course I started off a post about being a Warcraft hunter with a Britney Spears video.

So here’s a tip. If you’re up really late in WOW with friends, or you’re up really early--too early to party up for anything... consider taking advantage of that server refresh, loading up your favorites on Petopia, then hop on your hunter alts and have a taming party. Images of all the pets I caught over about 1.5 hours doing this are beloooow...

Taking your hunter out for a spin to try and grab pets that have long been on your wish list, or that you’ve never even heard of before can be SUCH fun. I think I picked up the habit back in Vanilla WOW when you had to find certain pets in order to learn pet abilities like Bite 4, then Bite 5 that’s only from this one wolf in this one dungeon... In order to play a hunter, you actually had to go hunting. And, keep your pet fed and happy like it was a 90s gigapet. It was like a mini-game built into your class. Honestly, I loved it. The maintenance and camping rares for a really long time are actually nice memories I have. Either way, whether you’re a new or seasoned Warcraft hunter, a taming party is mainly about -the hunt- you know? The exciting chase where you’ve never seen this thing before up close, you’re not totally sure where it is... heck! You might not even have flying in that zone so it’s even harder to track them down...

And then once you find the beast, you quickly have to figure out how to tame the beast. You might have to drop a frost trap, or climb to the top of a lonely pillar, fly up, then fall off your mount and target the beast mid-air... A taming party can be as complicated as you like, or you can keep it simple. I’ve never done a taming party with a friend before; it’s been kind of a nostalgic lone-wolf journey every time. But that’s fun as well because when you’re on your own,  you can just try the weirdest stuff to figure out how to get the pet that probably only someone like you would want. And it just feels like you’re treating yourself.

So, some hints on how to do this smoothly with very little frustration... Before you head out, make sure you have plenty of open taming slots. (I tried going with NO pets on me, but I really regretted that when I ran across a rare mob that I had a hard time catching up to and then it died mid-air and I didn’t have a pet on me, or even a tameable animal near me for a few ZONES which was a weird-ass problem to have, and I couldn’t even send in a pet to fetch loot from it if I couldn’t reach it. But I digress...) Having at least one pet on you will help you get out of weird fixes you can’t even anticipate, and as a hunter, a pet is the main tool for your class, so... I recommend not completely clearing the slate.

And before you rush off, start with Petopia’s Tameable Looks gallery. There are a few ways you can search and navigate through Petopia to narrow down what you want... But I kind of scroll through the gallery, fall in love with a certain pet model, then click the little Wowhead rocket link on the right side of the pet’s page and go from there. Wowhead will give you an exact map, coords, spawn times (some are every two hours; you don’t have to wait for a server refresh). I don’t use the coords, I’m old school. I just go for it and scan the target area. One thing I wouldn’t be without though is a macro.

Open up your macro panel by typing /macro into your chat box or you can open the main menu by pressing Esc and clicking Macro from there. Once you pick a name and an icon for your pet search macro, inside the macro box, type:

/tar name of pet

I’m not a gaming wizard here, I just need something that shows me if I’m getting close. Getting lost, getting stuck, corpse walking if something goes horribly wrong... those chances to laugh out loud at yourself (or your friends) are all part of the fun. Keep the mood light and try not to feel frustrated. Move on to the next tame on your list if something isn’t working out after a while.

With your friends, if your friends are roleplayers, this might end up being some really cool RP. Well, between moments when you’re going ‘Oh shoot! Hurry up, hurry up before someone else comes and kills it!’

Friday update 3/24/17

Hi everyone! As you all probably have heard, this was kickstarter week. We launched on Monday.

And we are doing really well so far! You can find more details beloooow. That said, as far as actual development goes, I'm going to be honest and say it was a REALLY light week on that stuff. Launching a campaign is a massive amount of work and there just hasn't been much free time to focus on writing, art and coding.

Writing: I…did not do much writing this week. As you can imagine, kickstarter launch provided a massive distraction. That said, I actually did do a lot of editing in Corvin's route. I can't really focus on writing new things at the moment (but will get back into that next week). But I can definitely edit – and that is what I did.

I also had some lovely chats with people who will be working with us to add in some new minor characters. One is planned to appear in Ewan's route as a friend and fellow club member. He's going to be such a fun character. And all I am saying is…pink hair.

The other, as of now, will be appearing in multiple routes and is planned to be a worker at the café owned by Corvin's family. She fits really nicely into the plot of Changeling so I'm looking forward to writing her in.

Artwork: Worked a bit on sketching out another CG from Elliot's route – and also started working on a doodle of Nora.

Coding: I did actually do a fair bit of coding for the first chapter of Corvin's route (after having given it another edit. LoL). There is a chance we'll be bringing another person into the team soon to help with script coding, which is something I am looking forward to for sure.

Other: K.I.C.K.S.T.A.R.T.E.R.

That is the word of the week for sure! So if you haven't backed us there and are curious what's going on with the kickstarter, well, we are at 56% funded with 27 days to go. So that's pretty good!

We had one early bird tier that sold out before it expired – the other one sold about half the slots before it expired. Two people pledged high enough amounts to be able to design and insert plot significant side characters (which I mentioned above). Otherwise, we've had people pledging all over the place. It's pretty exciting to see that people are supportive of the project.

That said, we can always use more support to help us reach our goal. If you can back us, please consider doing so – every pledge is critical for helping us get funding. And if you can spread the word – please definitely do so.

I know a lot of our followers have been incredibly awesome about signal boosting already and we just want to let you know how much we appreciate that. It's a massive help – so thank you all so much!

It's been a tiring week and I'm looking forward to the weekend, for sure. (Not that I stop working on the weekends but whatever). LoL

“Gyaaaahhh! Look out beloooow!!” Wouldn’t you know it, Milim had gotten tangled in the super cute long sash-thing she’d obtained just a half hour earlier. And of course she’d been in mid-flight when that happened, one wing somehow stuck in the cloth.

Flight with one wing was... not effective. Spiraling downwards, the best she could do was holler at the person nearest her landing point.
