CHAPTER MASTERLIST
Chapter Thirty-Three:
Turns out Thomus really liked The Hobbit. So much in fact that he did want to read the Lord of the Rings, just like I had thought he would. Luckily for him, Mary has them in her collection, and luckily for me, he didn’t ask me to read them aloud to him. He has disappeared into his room and I keep busy… cleaning. With my limitations, it’s about as much fun as a girl can have.
Since it’s a small house, I get through my cleaning pretty quickly. There’s no deep cleaning for me to do because I’ve already done it. Which is a bummer.
I settle in on the couch to read the rest of Louise Bay’s book, and finish it too quickly. The next book I feel like reading is The Great Gatsby. It was one of my favorites in school and I figured I might as well see if it was still just as good.
Thomus is so enthralled with his book that I only see him at meal times for the next few days. Even when I do see him he’s nose-deep between the pages. I sneak in only to change his bandages in the morning while he’s sleeping. He hasn’t asked to sleep with me again and that’s probably for the best.
One night I’d been about to close his bathroom door so I could shower when I notice Remmy in his room, about to give him his shot. Thomus doesn’t seem distressed at all, the book is clearly a good distraction for him.
When I go in to change his bandages the following morning, I notice that he’s almost done with Fellowship of the Ring, based on where it lay page-side down on his chest as he slept, glasses askew on his face. Quickly and quietly, I sneak downstairs and back to leave the next book on his nightstand. At breakfast, he hardly gives me a passing glance, too enthralled in the Two Towers.
And honestly? I don’t mind. I’m glad that he’s enjoying it so much. It makes me feel smug because he’s so taken by something written by a No Maj.
After breakfast, for whatever reason, he decides to sit in the living room instead of retreating back to his bedroom. He takes up most of the couch, and when I’m finished clearing our meal I’m forced to settle sideways in the armchair with my own book.
I sit and read until it becomes too hot for me to focus on Fitzgerald’s words. I consider taking a cold shower, and then feel like an absolute idiot for forgetting about the creek. Before going upstairs to find a bathing suit, I inconspicuously look at Thomus to see if he’s feeling the same way. He just turns a page, not bothered in the slightest, which is what settles it for me.
Not only is it going to be a good way to cool off, but I could have some alone time to practice getting a hold of my magic. It’s been a few days since taking the potion. If I try every day, eventually I should be able to determine exactly how many days it takes to wear off. I had wondered if by getting really emotional, if it’s something I could forcibly trigger. I’ve been lucky so far. All in all, something I’d rather figure out alone.
The bathing suit I find is a deep green two piece. High waisted bottoms, and a tank-like top. It’s flowy and kind of looks like a dress. I section out and twist the top of my hair up with one of those big teethy hair clips. Then I venture downstairs barefoot and with a towel clutched to my chest like a modesty shield.
I try to be quick as I descend the stairs, making a beeline for the kitchen.
“Where are you going?”
Damnit. Every time.
I stop and turn in the doorway, surprised to see he’s actually put his book down. “You know, every time you ask me that, the answer is always the same. I’m going outside.”
“Dressed like that?” he asks, eyebrows up.
“Well, it’s what the kids call a swimsuit,” I say, and feel the need to explain further. “There’s a part of the creek that looks deep enough to swim in. So that’s what I’m going to do, because if you hadn’t noticed, it’s ungodly hot right now.”
He swings his legs off the couch, sitting up and grasping his glass of water off the side table. “Now that you mention it, I am feeling a little heated.”
I start to back away, hoping I can make an escape. “Yup, well, if you need me feel free to holler –“
“Hold on, I’m coming with you.”
I internally groan. Why is he so good at ruining my plans?
“You have a swimsuit?” I ask, trying not to sound disappointed or annoyed.
He stands, stretching. “I can just transfigure what I’m wearing into something more suitable.”
“Great,” I say tightly. “Let me get you a towel.”
When I come back down, he’s shirtless and wearing only dark green swim trunks, not unlike the color of mine. As I hand him his towel, I try to void ogling his chest and so my eyes take in his shirt and pj pants strewn on the couch.
I quickly turn and make my way to the back door. I had contemplated letting him walk ahead of me, but before coming down I double checked in the mirror to make sure my tits and butt look good in this. When I pause at the door, looking back to see how far behind he is, I find he isn’t that far at all. I catch his eyes snapping up to my face, an almost too innocent expression on his.
I bite my lip and step outside. Maybe this trip to the creek will prove beneficial after all, magic or not.
It’s even hotter outside than inside, the sun bright and shining. I almost want to laugh at how pale we both are as we walk through the garden to the path in the woods. Our walk is silent, but not uncomfortable. The excitement about getting in the water is overpowering my nervousness.
We get to a rocky shore of the creek, where I’ve guessed is the deepest part. I remove the safety shield that had been my towel, and lay it in a heap on the rocks. Thomus does the same and I put my glasses on top of the pile.
He’s eyeing me, I guess waiting for me to step in first. I hold my arms close to my body, mainly cradling my boobs, as I step ankle deep into the water. I squeal at its freezing cold temperature.
Thomus laughs. “I’m going to be honest with you, I haven’t swam in ages.”
“Me neither!” I say, smiling back at him. I point to a moss covered boulder across the creek. “I think the deep spot is over there, based on how you can’t see the bottom.”
The water remains shallow as we slowly creep in. Thomus lets the water get to his calves before he decides to just charge in, fully submerging his body in one go. He swims to the other side, touching the boulder.
“You’re right,” he calls. “I can’t feel the bottom over here.”
As he swims back, I find a big flat rock to sit on a few feet below the water. On the rock the water level comes up to just under my boobs and I force myself to submerge them by leaning forward. The boobs are always the hardest to adjust. My pained expression must’ve given it away when Thomus comes to sit nearby in the shallow water.
“Too cold?” he says.
“For certain parts,” I laugh. My hands start to search around my feet for a skipping rock.
“Is the current strong over there?”
He turns his gaze to the stream. “A little on the top, yeah, but I don’t think we’d get far beyond those rocks.”
He’s referencing a cluster of rocks and boulders a little ways downstream, the sound of bubbling water rising to our ears in the calm woods.
“Good,” I say, throwing my first one and watching it plunge noisily on the first dip. “Don’t wanna float away later.”
“You can float?” He finds a stone himself and skips it as well. It jumps twice.
“Absolutely, I have what they call a natural buoyancy.” I wave my arm, gesturing to my body, and laugh. It takes him a moment, but I hear him chuckle. When I glance at him, he’s looking for his next throw, and I groan internally. Why the hell is he so hot?
I try to think of an excuse to talk to him. “If you find a cool rock, let me know.”
“A cool rock?”
“Do I need to explain to you what a cool rock looks like?” I tease.
“I know exactly what a cool rock would look like thank you very much.”
“Yeah, sure, okay. I’ll believe it when I see it.”
“What do you want a cool rock for anyhow?” He finds a rock for skipping and it jumps three times across the water. I quickly find my own and throw it, hiding my delight when it beats his by one.
“To keep,” I answer. “Gotta admit I’m a sucker for knickknacks and dust collectors.”
Thomus skips another one, but it plunks after two. “I’ll be sure to keep an eye out.”
I smile at him. “Thanks.”
Several moments pass where we skip stones and congratulate or cajole each other on our efforts. I suppose he goes through his supply of them, because he’s gradually getting closer to me. So close that our shoulders and upper arms brush as we search. His skin is damp and cold, but still sends a fire across my skin that makes the water extra cold. To my chagrin, I feel my nipples harden almost painfully, and I try to convince myself it’s because I keep dipping them in and out of the cold water.
I notice after a little while that he’s not throwing anything, even though I am. I turn to look at him and see he’s still digging around him. He scoots even closer still until our legs are mingling, half floating from where we sit. His hand starts to invade what I consider my territory around the rock I’m sitting on.
“Hey,” I say, “can ya’ give a girl a little space here?”
He doesn’t look at me. “Yes, of course,” he says, but doesn’t move. Well, he moves, but not farther away. His arms reach behind me and then backtrack to feel around under my legs. Now he’s so close I can feel his breath on my shoulders and the drops of water failing to cling to his hair as he moves around.
If I hadn’t read almost a thousand romance novels in my life, I’d be completely clueless as to what he’s doing. Damn, could he be any more obvious? At least he’s not making this difficult for me. Maybe the line in the sand isn’t as clear as I’d thought it was.
“What happened to keeping your distance?” I ask, attempting to sound flirtatious, glancing at his face. His chin comes to about my shoulder.
He stills and then retracts his hands, like he’s been caught. He leans forward more, his elbow resting on the edge of the rock.
“I don't recall promising anything explicitly,” he says, pretty blue gazing up at me. “I think you must be imagining things.”
“Oh, so you getting closer and closer like you’re after something is only a figment of my imagination?”
“And what is it you think I’m after?”
“Well, obviously it’s that cool rock I asked for.”
A wide smile breaks out across his face and he chuckles. I shift towards him more, my knees bending over his legs. I’ve been smiling throughout this whole conversation and now my cheeks are starting to hurt. My thigh presses right into his hand from where he leans on the rock. Those fingers start to brush back and forth over my skin.
I’m doing a much better job at training my eyes to his face than he is to mine. It’s giving me quite the confidence boost, I will freely admit.
“I have to confess that my intentions are a bit devious,” he says with a casual tilt of his head.
“So what was the agreement we came to?” I ask, feigning ignorance. “I think I’m just a little fuzzy on that.”
“I think,” he says, his free hand coming up to tuck a stray lock of hair dancing in the breeze behind my ear, “that we agreed on no more orgasms – all because you don’t want to keep your hands to yourself.”
He’s totally teasing me right now and I have to force the smile off my face. Mostly because my cheeks really do hurt now.
“Well, I don’t think anything’s changed,” I say and bite my lip. His gaze drops to my mouth and his chest expands with a sharp breath.
“And I thought I’d been doing an excellent job keeping to those terms. I had put all of my focus into that book until you came prancing down the stairs in this” – he gestures to my bathing suit – “enticing little number that just so happens to be in my favorite color.” His expression and tone has grown slightly more exasperated and I cannot stop the giggle that slips out.
“Don’t laugh at me,” he says, a smile on his face as well.
I pull my lips between my teeth again and shrug. “I’m not laughing.” My hands come out of the water to rub at my sore cheek muscles. “I’m actually really trying to not laugh.”
“You’re not making this easy on me.”
I sigh. “I promise I just wanted to swim.”
He leans closer to me and playfully whispers, “I think you’re lying. You haven’t even swam yet.”
Seeing no other choice, I pull back from him, turning away. “Fine then.” Cradling my boobs again, I crouch in the water, using the rock to push myself further from shore until I can stand up straight. I turn back to him, my feet drifting away from the floor and begin to tread water.
“Happy?” I call to him.
He tsks. “Your hair isn’t even wet.”
I give him an annoyed look. “So demanding! Anything to prove my innocence, I suppose.” Closing my eyes, I lean back until I’m floating. My arms gently glide over the water and my legs move softly, and soon I get lost in the feeling of weightlessness. The sun occasionally flickers over my eyes through the trees and I can feel it’s warmth.
“It really is beautiful here,” I say after a few long moments. My ears are underwater, so sound is muffled, but I still expect to hear his response. When I get none, I open my eyes and lift my head. I’ve floated downstream a little, and Thomus isn’t where I last left him. “Thomus?”
My eyes search the shore line and I call out his name again.
I let out a startled little yelp when I feel his hand grasp mine and start pulling me. His head pops up near the shore and he has a big dumb grin on his face.
“I’m sorry, did I scare you?” he asks innocently as his other arm circles my waist and pulls me to him. He’s crouched under the water and positions me until I’m sitting in his lap with both of his arms around me.
I have an arm over his shoulder and I take deep breaths. “A little, but it’s okay. At least you didn’t splash me. You’d have gotten a very different reaction.”
“Oh? Why’s that?” he asks. I pretend not to notice the hand around my back sliding down my side to rest on my hip, the other spread across my thigh to hold me to him.
“I get irrationally angry when water splashes my face,” I admit. “My emotions travel at warp speed to pissed off in two seconds flat.”
He gets a mischievous smirk on his face. “Like this?”
I close my eyes just in time as he shakes his head, the water in his hair splattering my face. My hands shoot out of the water to hold him still.
“Yes, exactly like that,” I snap as I open my eyes when I think it’s safe.
Uh, oh. His face is waay too close to mine now, especially when it’s now clasped between my hands.
“Noted,” he says, mirth still alight in his eyes, “for the future.”
I feel my lips twitch in an attempt to smile. “Mm-hm, right… “ my voice is faint because my attention is roaming his face. God, his lips are so close right now and his eyes –
His eyes are staring right back at me. The lids are lowering and his eyes are darkening.
But he’s not making a move. He’s not leaning closer, he’s not asking for anything. I know that if I wanted to stop, he’d let me go.
The only problem is, I don’t want to let him go. I want the exact opposite.
My hands go from holding the sides of his face to threading into the back of his wet hair and I pull his face to mine. His grip on me tightens and his mouth is pliant beneath my lips, eager for what I have to offer. I kiss him as much as I want. Enjoying his touch, enjoying how he feels, how he smells. I think in the house I’d gone nose blind to his devastating smell. The creek water has refreshed my senses and now I can smell nothing but him.
The water makes it easy for me to float around and without breaking this kiss, I shift until my legs are around his hips. My arms are draped over his shoulders and with all my limbs I can easily pull him to me and keep him there. To my delight, his arms hold me just as tight around my waist.
That doesn’t satisfy him for long. As we continue to kiss, his hands slip down to my hips. My swimsuit bottoms had hiked themselves up as I swam, so when his touch begins to explore my ass, there’s not much left to the imagination. Not that he seems to mind.
One of my legs spreads wider, my toes digging into the soft ground, so I can press myself against him. My other heel digs into his backside as my hips start to rock, my core desperate for friction. I feel him shift, his feet planting for a better position, and his hips push back. He’s hard and hot and warm and he feels delicious.
He lets out a tortured groan and if I didn’t know any better, I’d think he’s in pain. His lips pull from mine so he can bury his face in the crook of my neck and shoulder.
“What?” I ask breathlessly. “I’m not touching you.”
One of his hands with a tight grip on my ass releases and feels it’s way up my body to tightly grip another part of me. The palm of his hand rubs against my already painfully tight nipple and I gasp, grinding against him harder.
“Fuck,” he growls before biting into my neck and sucking. My fingers dig into his muscled shoulders. He releases my breast and quickly travels under the rippling end of my top. It glides over my hip until it finds the waistband of the swimsuit bottoms. My mind snaps into awareness when I think he’s going to venture past it. Instead, after brief hesitation, his hand pushes between us down my stomach, cradling the ample area below my belly button.
His lips release my neck and go for my ear. “I need to touch you,” he murmurs, his voice gravelly. “I want to feel how wet that pretty cunt of yours is.”
I shudder at the use of those crude words and my hands cradle the back of his head.
“I mean, it feels pretty wet,” I say lightly, dragging air into my lungs so I sound more in control than I feel I am. “But we are in a creek so who’s to say?”
The hand down below slides lower, his fingertips teasing the crest of my slit over the material covering it. “Only one way to find out,” he purrs, a darkness to his tone.
“But I can’t touch you,” I whine and tilt my hips, moving his hand away completely. “It’s just not fair.”
“It’s not about what’s fair.” He pulls back enough to meet my eyes. “It’s about taking what’s mine.” He pushes his hand back down until it’s fully cupping me, his fingers pressing the material tight against my core.
My eyes close and I gasp at the pleasure. I manage to stop myself just in time from saying So take me then. My eyebrows pull together in concentration and I grit my teeth. My fingers dig into his scalp. I take a few deep breaths through my nose in an attempt to calm the fuck down.
“What’s stopping you then?” I ask, meeting his eyes again. His brow is furrowed too, mouth downturned. “Like really? None of the other Death Eaters have problems fucking their Lots. They already think we are.” My fingers tug at his hair and I dive for his neck, running my lips along his jaw. “So why not?”
He doesn’t answer me, and I press on. My tongue comes out to tease him right before my teeth sink into his skin. His breath hitches and he puts both hands at my hips, thrusting his up against me again. They stop mid-thrust and jerkily resettle, as if he changed his mind last second.
“Are you sure this is what you want?” he asks. He pulls me away from his neck so I have to look at him.
I smile nervously. “Is this not a big enough hint for you?”
As his eyes roam my face, he seems to be choosing his next words carefully. “It’s just that it’s going to be… meaningless.”
Oh.
Thomus is worried about me in this situation? He clearly understood what I really meant when I said meaningless. He knows that I want more out of such an intimate act, but that’s not something he can give. He wants to make sure I understand that and be okay with it.
And am I? I know this has been my goal for a while now. To distract him. To keep him here instead of out hunting the Order. I know it’s the only thing that I can do to help right now.
I know that I want him. I know this is what I have to do. Even though he doesn’t care about me, even though he thinks I hold no value as a human fucking being, at least he cares enough about how I feel about it. He cares enough about my well-being - both mental and physical, that I think I trust him with this.
I know this isn’t the ideal situation, but he seems to want me and I definitely want him. I can take this for what it is. This is just… going to have to be enough for me.
So why not?
He’s been waiting patiently for my answer. I’d been silent for a bit longer than I’d intended, and I blink out of my thoughts, giving him a shy smile.
“It’s okay,” I shrug. “Might as well find out if it’s worth the hype, right?”
He inhales sharply, a stiffness in his shoulders easing. “I definitely intend to make it worth your while.”
I bring my face closer to his again. “Good.”
Our lips meet again and he kisses me slowly. My hands roam all over him, exciting by the prospect that I get to touch him with no limitations. But I try to match his pace and be slow. I don’t want to embarrass myself by being too eager.
He tugs the strap down my shoulder and he hikes me up enough so he can bury his face in my chest. When he pops up, there’s a deep read mark on my left boob. He sits back to admire his work and I’d almost be annoyed with him if it weren’t for the look of pure adoration on his face. His eyes travel up past mine to my hair. He reaches up and releases the hair clip, tossing it over his shoulder to the beach. He tugs the other strap down my shoulder. Now my top is loose and I’m half afraid my boobs are just gonna float up out of it.
“Shake your hair out for me,” he commands. Since he took the hair clip out, I do as he says, leaning over slightly until I flip it back up. It falls in waves around my face and I look back at him curiously. His appreciative gaze takes me in from my chest all the way up to my hair.
“Are we gonna fuck in the creek?” I ask.
This takes him out of whatever daze he’s in. His eyes snap to mine and he grins devilishly.
“Not today.”
My giggle eases some of the nervousness that had crept up under his stare and I lean forward to kiss him again. His arms wrap around me and he begins gliding us to the even shallower part of the creek.
Suddenly he breaks our kiss and shoves me away from him. Not expecting that, I don’t have great balance and my head goes under. When I resurface, coughing and snorting out the water from my nose, Thomus is on his feet, clutching his left forearm. His expression has hardened and he’s backing out of the water.
“I’m sorry, are you alright?” he asks. I can hear the pain straining his voice.
I nod. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
He grounds out his words. “I have to go. I’m being summoned.”
“Are you healed enough?” I ask, unable to keep the worry out of my voice. I pull the straps back up my arms.
“I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about me.” He’s on the shore now, his body turned towards the path. "Oh, here. I found this earlier." He stops and digs through a pocket on his swim shorts. He tosses the small object and I manage to catch it.
I look down at my hand and see I'm holding a rock. A very cool rock.
When I look back up, he's gone.

Mostly Mezzo Mondays: Alder, Coote, I. Davies, and 4 Dutch singers LIVE from Amsterdam
Mostly Mezzo Mondays: a recurring (though not weekly) feature where, on Monday nights, I blog a list of the upcoming broadcasts that have caught my eye on World Concert Hall. My interests: baroque vocal music, art song recitals, and a list of favorite singers.
Let’s start with the excitement of a LIVE concert. Judith van Wanroij, Helena Rasker, Linard Vrielink, and Thomas Oliemans, along with pianists Lestari Scholtes and Gwylim Janssens perform a program of Schubert and Brahms live at the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. Live broadcast Wednesday, July 29 on NPO Radio 4.
Now we’ll shift back to the pre-recorded concerts that are continuing to make up most of the music broadcast offerings while we wait for a COVID-19 vaccine. Louise Alder sings works by Mozart, Rossini, and Léhar as part of a generally upbeat concert with the Luxembourg Philharmonic that was recorded back in January, a couple months before the pandemic shit hit the fan for live performance. Deferred broadcast Wednesday, July 29 on Radio 100,7.
Alice Coote sings Elgar’s Sea Pictures as part of a 2014 Proms concert with the Hallé. Rebroadcast Thursday, July 30 on BBC Radio 3.
Another concert being hauled out of the Proms archives, this one dating back to 2009: Iestyn Davies and Simon Wall sing works by Purcell and Blow with the Academy of Ancient Music. Rebroadcast Sunday, August 2 on BBC Radio 3.

Meet My Dolls
*This will be my pinned post now that I have 8 dolls to talk about, but may be updated as I shift story details.
Tumblr media
Lexie Sarah Gilbert is 11 years old, Jewish, and autistic. She just moved to a new town with her 2 dads and her 8-year-old sister Sophie. She made friends with Summer the week before school started and they became best friends. I'm working on her AG-style series, which includes themes of friendship, standing up for yourself, and mutual aid.
Tumblr media
Sophie Anne Gilbert is 8 years old and has ADHD. She's Lexie's little sister but much less worried about the move, since she has no trouble making friends. She loves making all kinds of art and is working on reading Harry Potter.
Tumblr media
Summer Louise Williams is 11 years old, Jewish, and has juvenile idiopathic arthritis. She lives with her mom and 20-year-old brother Tyler. She already had friends from school and synagogue, but she quickly became best friends with Lexie. She spends some weekends in her dad's house in the country, which she loves because he has 2 dogs and her mom's apartment doesn't allow pets. She's not shy at all and loves art and singing. Her series takes place a year after Lexie's when they're both 12 and being homeschooled. Her books include themes of intersecting identities, community in a minority culture, inaccessibility, and following your heart even if your dreams differ from your friends'.
Tumblr media
Olive Ivy Said is 13 years old, Muslim, the child of Libyan immigrants, and has Meniere's. They move into Lexie's neighborhood the spring after Lexie arrives. Even though they're 2 years older and in a different grade, they quickly become friends with Lexie and Summer. They live with their parents, grandparents, 15-year-old sister Alex, and 3-year-old sister Rosie. Their series takes place a year before they move, when they were 12, and themes include exploring gender identity, disability visibility, choosing meaningful traditions for oneself, and being a valuable contributor to a team even with one's limitations.
Tumblr media
Persephone November Ellison (thank you @futuristicsaladparadise for name ideas!) is a little older than the others, and despite appearances is not a real fairy. She's 15 years old, trans, and dyspraxic. She loves to paint swirls and leaves all over her body and wears fairy wings and her favorite dress whenever possible because it makes her feel light and free. She lives with her aunt, uncle, and twin teenage cousins. I haven't decided on the rest of her story yet because I just got her, but she will have a series too.
Tumblr media
Miko Fukuda is a 12-year-old mostly nonverbal autistic kid. She attends a K-8 alternative school and lives with her grandparents (a kindergarten teacher and an illustrator). More than anything she loves mushrooms, but she's also really into aliens and baking with her grandma. She has service dog named Inky Cap and two best friends at school.
Tumblr media
Rowena Brook Laurier is a 12-year-old who attends the same school as Miko but has a different circle of friends. She just started there after getting expelled from her last school. She began losing her sight at 7 and has been completely blind since 10. She and her 11-year-old brother, Alder, have lived with their 25-year-old sister, Danielle, since their parents died in a hurricane 4 years ago. She deals with a lot of anger, but is slowly learning that she does enjoy some parts of school and sometimes being soft is better.
Tumblr media
Indigo Ramirez (zie/zir) is 15 and identifies as gender queer, but mostly just wants to live zir life without thinking about gender. Zie never thought much about gender until recently, just thinking of zirself as a person. Zie likes skateboarding, horses, and is on the school track team. Zie is Latine with immigrant parents from Mexico and two older siblings.
Tumblr media
Anndi Abrams (they/them) is Indigo's childhood friend. They thought they were a feminine trans boy for a long time, but recently decided they are not any binary gender and enjoy a mix of presentations. They like to draw comics, go rollerblading, and write stories they hope to publish one day. They are Jewish and have a twin sister.
Tumblr media
Myka Miller (she/they) is a 15-year-old who recently realized they're genderfluid. She just made friends with Anndi and Indigo and often goes with them to the Queer Community Center. She is very artistic and loves painting her OCs, as well as camping and writing poems. She is mixed African American and Puyallup native American. They and their three siblings (one older, two younger) grew up on the Puyallup reservation, though they live in Tacoma now.

The much-talked about production did not disappoint; the modernized visuals create many new layers to the show, and make you think about events and characters in a whole new way. Nehal, Allison, Justin, and Christia were probably my favorites, but the entire cast is so talented, it’s difficult to choose any as standouts. A very nice capture overall. There are a couple quick dropouts in act one, but no major blackouts. There is one head that can be seen occasionally, but it only blocks a small portion of the stage and only affects the action for about 20-30 seconds of the entire show. It’s filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is excellent as usual. Includes curtain call and playbill scans. Les Misérables - Duisburg - 1996 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (SD) CAST: Jerzy Jeszke (Jean Valjean), Hardy Rudolz (Javert), Cornelia Drese (Fantine), Deborah Dutcher (Cosette), Felix Martin (Marius), Sanni Luis (Éponine), Martin Berger (Enjolras), Tom Zahner (Thénardier), Anne Welte (Madame Thénardier), Willi Welp (The Bishop) Les Misérables - Dutch Revival - Spring, 2008 FORMAT:  MP4 (SD) CAST: René van Kooten (Jean Valjean), Wim van den Driessche (Javert), Nurlaila Karim (Fantine), Suzan Seegers (Cosette), Jamai Loman (Marius), Céline Purcell (Éponine), Freek Bartels (Enjolras), Gerben Grimmius (u/s Thénardier), Marjolein Algera (Madame Thénardier) NOTES: Complete show, Amateur capture A, Double dvd Les Misérables - Fifth National Tour - October 5, 2018 (hitmewithyourbethshot's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Nick Cartell (Jean Valjean), Josh Davis (Javert), Mary Kate Moore (Fantine), Jillian Butler (Cosette), Joshua Grosso (Marius), Paige Smallwood (Éponine), Matt Shingledecker (Enjolras), J Anthony Crane (Thénardier), Allison Guinn (Madame Thénardier), Sam Middleton (Gavroche), Cate Elefante (u/s Little Cosette), Matt Moisey (Grantaire), Monte J Howell (Combeferre), Tim Quartier (s/w Feuilly), Christopher Viljoen (Courfeyrac), Patrick Rooney (Jean Prouvaire), Gabriel Sidney Brown (Joly), Andrew Maughan (Lesgles), Felipe Barbosa Bombonato (Babet), John Ambrosino (Claquesous), Steve Czarnecki (Factory Foreman), Ashley Dawn Mortensen (Factory Girl), John Ambrosino (Bamatabois) Les Misérables - First Broadway Revival - November 11, 2006 FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Victor Hawks (u/s Jean Valjean), Norm Lewis (Javert), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Fantine), Ali Ewoldt (Cosette), Adam Jacobs (Marius), Celia Keenan-Bolger (Éponine), Aaron Lazar (Enjolras), Gary Beach (Thénardier), Jenny Galloway (Madame Thénardier), Jacob Levine (Gavroche), Drew Sarich (Grantaire) NOTES: A nice capture here of Victor as Valjean. The capture is a little on the dark side, but still enjoyable. Les Misérables - First Broadway Revival - February 17, 2007 FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Alexander Gemignani (Jean Valjean), Norm Lewis (Javert), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Fantine), Ali Ewoldt (Cosette), Adam Jacobs (Marius), Celia Keenan-Bolger (Éponine), Drew Sarich (u/s Enjolras), Gary Beach (Thénardier), Jenny Galloway (Madame Thénardier), Jacob Levine (Gavroche) NOTES: A really nice video of the first broadway revival. Widescreen. Cleaned up nicely in remastering. And it has Sarich. Les Misérables - First Broadway Revival - May 12, 2007 (Matinee) (jstarz's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Alexander Gemignani (Jean Valjean), Drew Sarich (u/s Javert), Lea Salonga (Fantine), Ali Ewoldt (Cosette), Adam Jacobs (Marius), Mandy Bruno (Éponine), Max von Essen (Enjolras), Gary Beach (Thénardier), Ann Harada (Madame Thénardier), Stephen Trafton (u/s Grantaire) NOTES: Filmed in widescreen (though encoded in 4:3, so there are bars at the top and bottom of the screen), this is a nice capture of some of the new cast members. Drew and Ann give great performances in their roles. The second disc also includes the first 15 minutes of the February 24, 2007 Evening show, filmed from the rear right orchestra. Les Misérables - First Broadway Revival - June 1, 2007 FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Alexander Gemignani (Jean Valjean), Ben Davis (Javert), Lea Salonga (Fantine), Ali Ewoldt (Cosette), Adam Jacobs (Marius), Marissa McGowan (Éponine), Max von Essen (Enjolras), Gary Beach (Thénardier), Ann Harada (Madame Thénardier) Les Misérables - First Broadway Revival - August 24, 2007 FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Drew Sarich (Jean Valjean), Robert Hunt (Javert), Nikki Renée Daniels (u/s Fantine), Ali Ewoldt (Cosette), Adam Jacobs (Marius), Megan McGinnis (Éponine), Max von Essen (Enjolras), Chip Zien (Thénardier), Becca Ayers (u/s Madame Thénardier), Brian D'Addario (Gavroche) NOTES: Some nice closeups/mediums. A nice capture of the new cast. Capture can be dark at times, but mostly in the darker scenes. Includes a technical difficulty when the Barricades first come out, the show is stopped and includes the announcement.. A- Les Misérables - Fourth UK & Ireland Tour - January, 2019 (House-Cam's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Killian Donnelly (Jean Valjean), Nic Greenshields (Javert), Katie Hall (Fantine), Bronwen Hanson (Cosette), Harry Apps (Marius), Tegan Bannister (Éponine), Will Richardson (Enjolras), Martin Ball (Thénardier), Sophie-Louise Dann (Madame Thénardier) Les Misérables - Hollywood Bowl - August 9, 2008 FORMAT:  WMV (HD) CAST: J Mark McVey (Jean Valjean), Brian Stokes Mitchell (Javert), Melora Hardin (Fantine), Michele Maika (Cosette), John Lloyd Young (Marius), Lea Michele (Éponine), Tom Lowe (Enjolras), Sage Ryan (Gavroche) NOTES: J. Mark McVey, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Lea Michele, Melora Hardin, John Lloyd Young, Michele Maika, Michael McCormick, Tom Lowe, Ruth Williamson. Juni's master filmed in widescreen and can be a little shakey at times in tight zooms. Nice to see the audience version compared to the Proshot one. A- Les Misérables - Japan - 1997

Les Misérables - Paris - 1991 FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Robert Marien (Jean Valjean), Patrick Rocca (Javert), Marie Zamora (Cosette), Jérôme Pradon (Marius), Stéphanie Martin (Éponine), Julien Combey (Enjolras), Laurent Gendron (Thénardier), Marie-France Roussel (Madame Thénardier) NOTES: Act 1 + finale of act 2. This is 100% NOT Louise Pitre playing Fantine Les Misérables - Second Broadway Revival - March 1, 2014 (Preview) (Highlights) (where is your red schaaaf's master) FORMAT:  MOV (HD) CAST: Ramin Karimloo (Jean Valjean), Will Swenson (Javert), Caissie Levy (Fantine), Samantha Hill (Cosette), Andy Mientus (Marius), Nikki M James (Éponine), Kyle Scatliffe (Enjolras), Cliff Saunders (Thénardier), Keala Settle (Madame Thénardier), Gaten Matarazzo (Gavroche) NOTES: First preview. It includes most of the show. Loud excited audience. Blind shot from stage right third row, with no zooms. Keala Settle sprained her ankle at some point between The Robbery and One Day More, resulting in her not being in One Day More and using a cane during Wedding Chorale/Beggars at the Feast. Les Misérables - Second Broadway Revival - March 8, 2014 (Preview) (SunsetBlvd79's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (SD) CAST: Ramin Karimloo (Jean Valjean), Will Swenson (Javert), Caissie Levy (Fantine), Samantha Hill (Cosette), Andy Mientus (Marius), Nikki M James (Éponine), Kyle Scatliffe (Enjolras), Cliff Saunders (Thénardier), Keala Settle (Madame Thénardier), Joshua Colley (Gavroche) NOTES: Audience was full of excitement! It’s refreshing to see different faces in the lead roles, and both Nathaniel and Earl carry the show well. Nathaniel’s vocals are powerful and he has a great rapport with Caissie and Samantha. A lovely capture overall with no obstruction. Look Down is mostly blacked out and there are a couple quick dropouts during The Bishop scene and Lovely Ladies, but the show is otherwise fully intact. There is also some washout in high contrast wide shots. It’s filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is excellent. Includes curtain call and playbill scans. Les Misérables - Second Broadway Revival - July 1, 2015 FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Ramin Karimloo (Jean Valjean), John Rapson (u/s Javert), Erika Henningsen (Fantine), Melissa Mitchell (u/s Cosette), Chris McCarrell (Marius), Brennyn Lark (Éponine), Wallace Smith (Enjolras), Gavin Lee (Thénardier), Rachel Izen (Madame Thénardier), Sam Chuck (Gavroche), Joe Spieldenner (Grantaire), Weston Wells Olson (s/w Combeferre) NOTES: Act I begins at "The Runaway Cart" and nearly complete Act II. Definitely a different performance too.
Les Misérables - Third UK (25th Anniversary) Tour - June 20, 2010 (thewho's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: John Owen-Jones (Jean Valjean), Earl Carpenter (Javert), Madalena Alberto (Fantine), Katie Hall (Cosette), Luke Kempner (u/s Marius), Rosalind James (Éponine), Jon Robyns (Enjolras), Ashley Artus (Thénardier), Lynne Wilmott (Madame Thénardier), Jordi Clark (Gavroche), David Lawrence (The Bishop), Adam Linstead (Grantaire), David Covey (Combeferre), Owain Williams (Feuilly), Christopher Jacobsen (Courfeyrac), Rhidian Marc (Joly), David Lawrence (Lesgles), Carl Mullaney (Claquesous), Carl Mullaney (Bamatabois) NOTES: Act 1 starts at At The End of the Day, Act 2 starts at Drink with me. okay quality though blurry and shaky throughout. First time in history two same productions of a major musical played in the same city. Les Misérables - West End - May 9, 1987 (House-Cam's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (SD) CAST: Martin Smith (u/s Jean Valjean), Clive Carter (Javert), Kathleen Rowe McAllen (Fantine), Jacinta Mulcahy (Cosette), Maurice Clarke (u/s Marius), Jayne Draper (Éponine), Martin George (Enjolras), David Delve (Thénardier), Myra Sand (Madame Thénardier), Cameron Stewart (u/s Grantaire) NOTES: Commonly mistaken as December 28, 1988! Martin Smith was part of the West End cast for 6 months starting December 1986, and the non-circulated first-generation DVD labels the date as 1987/05/09. Les Misérables - West End - December 28, 1991 (House-Cam's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Stig Rossen (Jean Valjean), Paul Leonard (Javert), Jenna Russell (Fantine), Sarah Jane Hassell (Cosette), Daryll Winslow (Marius), Meredith Braun (Éponine), Mike Sterling (u/s Enjolras), David Hampshire (u/s The Bishop), Amanda Dainty (u/s Factory Girl) NOTES: Black and white. Audio is nice and clear. A more rare color version does exist. (Proof: https://youtu.be/KI_KHnLwk_k) Les Misérables - West End - May 6, 2006 FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Tim Godwin (u/s Jean Valjean), Cornell John (Javert), Kerry Ellis (Fantine), Julia Möller (Cosette), Hayden Tee (Marius), AJ Callaghan (u/s Éponine), Nolan Dark (u/s Enjolras), Barry James (Thénardier), Tracie Bennett (Madame Thénardier) NOTES: Taper’s comments: Amanda and Nolan are better than the principles and Tim sounds uncannily like JOJ (Home Counties accent not-withstanding). He first understudied in 1999, when JOJ was the principal, which may explain the similarity. About half of the Chain Gang song missing and filming starts in earnest during Valjean on parole. Other parts missed because of ushers include several random one-second cover-ups, part of the wedding and about half of Finale. Heads in the way sometimes block the action on the lower right of the stage, but they are shot around well. Vantage point provides some interesting views such as of Fantine during Lovely Ladies. Wonderful performances from the entire cast but especially then soon-to-be-Elphaba Kerry Ellis. Les Misérables - West End - September 19, 2013 FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Daniel Koek (Jean Valjean), James Gant (u/s Javert), Na-Young Jeon (Fantine), Samantha Dorsey (Cosette), Rob Houchen (Marius), Carrie Hope Fletcher (Éponine), Anton Zetterholm (Enjolras), Cameron Blakely (Thénardier), Wendy Ferguson (Madame Thénardier), Ilan Galkoff (Gavroche), Caoimhe Judd (Little Cosette) Les Misérables - West End - June 14, 2014 FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Daniel Koek (Jean Valjean), Tam Mutu (Javert), Na-Young Jeon (Fantine), Samantha Dorsey (Cosette), Dougie Carter (Marius), Carrie Hope Fletcher (Éponine), Anton Zetterholm (Enjolras), Cameron Blakely (Thénardier), Wendy Ferguson (Madame Thénardier), Carl Mullaney (Grantaire) NOTES: Final performance of the 2013/14 cast Les Misérables - West End - July 9, 2015 (Highlights) (musicalmania123's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Peter Lockyer (Jean Valjean), Jeremy Secomb (Javert), Rachelle Ann Go (Fantine), Zoe Doano (Cosette), Rob Houchen (Marius), Carrie Hope Fletcher (Éponine), Bradley Jaden (Enjolras), Phil Daniels (Thénardier), Katy Secombe (Madame Thénardier) NOTES: Highlights only. Mostly Mezzo Mondays: Panthaki, Costanzo, Bridges, Gerhaher, Alder, Hallenberg, Lindsey, et al.
Mostly Mezzo Mondays: a recurring (though not weekly) feature where, on Monday nights, I blog a list of the upcoming broadcasts that have caught my eye on World Concert Hall. My interests: baroque vocal music, art song recitals, and a list of favorite singers.
It’s that time of year when Handel’s Messiah keeps the jam on vocal soloists’ bread. I’m sure there will be plenty of Messiah broadcasts to choose from between now and the 25th, but here’s a good pick already: Sherezade Panthaki, Daniel Moody, Richard Croft, and Benjamin Bevan are the soloists with the Minnesota Orchestra under Nicholas Kraemer. Live broadcast Friday, December 6 on Classical Minnesota Public Radio. (NOTE: although the live concert broadcast starts at 8:00 p.m. Minneapolis time on the 6th, it is listed in the wee hours of the 7th on World Concert Hall, which uses GMT for all broadcast listings.)
Glass’s Akhnaten has definitely gotten under my skin and into my ear since I saw it in New York last month. I’ve been listening to an old recording that someone put on YouTube, but I look forward to getting the Met cast into my MP3 stash. Personally, I like Anthony Roth Costanzo more in Glass than in Handel, and he seems born to play Akhnaten; J’Nai Bridges and Dísella Lárusdóttir are mesmerizing as Nefertiti and Queen Tye, respectively. Live broadcast Saturday, December 7 on WQXR.
I don’t know much about Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust but I do know that this cast has a high quotient of noteworthiness: Christian Gerhaher, Christiane Karg, Louise Alder, Ann Hallenberg, Claire Barnett-Jones, Werner Güra, Tareq Nazmi, and Kurt Rydl. John Elliot Gardiner conducts. Live broadcast Sunday, December 8 on NPO Radio 4.
The world premiere of Olga Neuwirth’s Orlando is up for broadcast from the Wiener Staatsoper, with Kate Lindsey in the title role. Live broadcast Sunday, December 8 on Ö1.

(they also did Idomeneo last week instead for some reason but I did catch it and it was very strangely edited and the production concept was strange but Idamante was very cute) (also the very cute Idamante is playing Sesto in the Clemenza) (also this is like the third time they’ve changed the streaming date for Nozze so I hope this one sticks)

Fantastika Journal, Volume 4, Issue 1, edited by Kerry Dodd, July 2020. Cover art by Sinjin Li, info and free download: fantastikajournal.com.
“Fantastika” – a term appropriated from a range of Slavonic languages by John Clute — embraces the genres of Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Horror, but can also include Alternate History, Gothic, Steampunk, Young Adult Dystopic Fiction, or any other radically imaginative narrative space. The goal of Fantastika Journal and its annual conference is to bring together academics and independent researchers who share an interest in this diverse range of fields with the aim of opening up new dialogues, productive controversies and collaborations. We invite articles examining all mediums and disciplines which concern the Fantastika genres. This special issue is based off the fifth Fantastika conference — After Fantastika — which investigated how definitions of time are negotiated within Fantastika literature, exploring not only the conception of its potential rigidity but also how its prospective malleability offers an avenue through which orthodox systems of thought may be reconfigured. By interrogating the principal attributes of this concept alongside its centrality to human thought, this issue considers how Fantastika may offer an alternate lens through which to examine the past, present, and future of time itself.
