Don't Do This- Part two of Was It Worth The Risk
Description: @looby1302 This is the second part to 'Was it worth the risk'. I ended it here, because it is getting quite long, but also I wanted to do like a separate one for the months that their apart, if this makes sense lol.
Words: 2202
Warnings: I don't think there are any, but if you see any, please let me know and I'll add them.
Three days later...
Lucy groaned at the sound of her alarm blaring. She reached over and grabbed her phone, turning off the alarm. After placing the phone back on her nightstand, Lucy lays there, her arm on her forehead as the memories of their breakup resurfaced for the umpteenth time. She groaned at the memory and the tears falling down her face. Exhaustion was taking a toll on her body from the restless nights.
A knock on her door pulls her from her thoughts. She takes a deep breath and clears her throat. "Yeah?" She croaks out.
Tamara opens the door and stands in the doorway. "Hey, you doing okay?" Lucy props herself up.
"Okay, as I can be, I guess." She sniffles.
Tamara walks into her room and scoots Lucy's legs over so she can sit. "You going back to work today?"
Lucy sighs. She doesn't want to, but she knows she can't avoid Tim forever. "I don't want to, but I need to." Tamara nods. "I mean you could always skip today and go back tomorrow." She smiles.
Lucy chuckles lightly. "I wish, but I can't avoid Tim forever."
"You still haven't talked to him about the baby situation?"
Lucy groaned. "No. I don't even know what to say. I know we need to talk, but I honestly don't even know where to start. I mean, a baby won't change our situation."
"Just talk to him when you feel like it. I mean you do have like 7 or 8 months to talk to him." Tamara shrugs.
"I know, but I do need to talk to him sooner rather than later. I mean I know he's not going to abandon his kid. We just have to figure out how to work this new dynamic, I guess."
Tamara stands from the bed. "Alright, well, if you need someone to go with you to doctor's appointments," Tamara points at herself with a smile. "I'm your girl."
"Thanks." Lucy smiles. "Go get ready for school or you're going to be late."
"Yes, mother." Tamara mocks and laughs as she exits Lucy's room. Lucy shakes her head and chuckles.
Walking into the station, she avoids as many people as possible and heads into the locker room. Lucy gets dressed and waits for everyone else to leave, giving herself a moment to give herself words of encouragement. She takes a deep breath and heads out of the locker room and towards the roll call room. Before she can open the door, Nyla is calling for her.
Lucy lets go of the door handle and heads towards her. "What's up?"
"I have a friend who needs a partner to go undercover with. You in?"
Lucy thinks for a moment. She would love to go undercover and put her skills to use since she hadn't been on an undercover op in a while. But she no longer had herself to worry about. "I-I would love to, but there may be a little problem."
"If you're worried about Tim-"
Lucy stops Nyla before she can continue, not worried about Tim for the moment. "No, uhm, I'm not worried about him."
"Then what's there to worry about?" Nyla questioned, not sure why Lucy was so hesitant. Usually, Lucy would jump for joy at an undercover opportunity.
Lucy groaned and looked around. "Can we talk somewhere a little more private?"
Nyla still looked a little skeptical but nodded and told Lucy to lead the way. They headed towards one of the empty observation rooms. "Alright, spill. What's going on? You would have jumped at an opportunity to go undercover without a second thought."
Lucy wrung her hands together, trying to form the words to spill out of her mouth. Nyla waited patiently, knowing this was unlike Lucy. "I, uhm, I'm-I'm pregnant." Lucy whispered. Nyla's eyes bulged out of her head. "What?"
"Yea, I found out a couple of weeks ago."
"Well, damn, congratulations." Nyla smiled. "But you don't have anything to worry about. I was pregnant with Lyla when I was undercover. You have to be a little more careful. But you and Niko, who you'll be going undercover with, are just going to be running drugs for now. Niko is trying to build rapport with the people he's in with, hoping they'll let him further into the group and find out who's supplying the drugs. But, at any point, if you want to leave, you say the word, and we'll pull you out."
Lucy considered it for a moment. She could do it for a couple of months and then regroup once she was farther along in her pregnancy. "Okay, okay, I can do that."
"Are you 100 percent sure?"
"Yes. 100 percent."
Nyla nodded. "Alright. I'll call Niko and we'll get started once he gets here."
About an hour later, Niko shows up in the observation room with Lucy and Nyla. They review the details, what is expected of them, and how checking in will work.
"One more thing," Nyla pauses, looking at Lucy and then turning back to Niko. "She is pregnant. So, if you feel the need to pull her out, you do it, whether she fights you on it or not. We've also gone over the risk and if it starts to become too much, she'll pull out."
Niko nods, a little surprised at the news. "Okay. Well, as long as you're all good, I'm good."
"I'm good."
"Now that we're all on the same page, you both need to go get your affairs in order and then meet back here."
Lucy left the observation room and went into the locker room to get changed. She quickly changed and headed out toward the parking lot. She barely made it out the door before she ran into Tim. Lucy quickly sidestepped him as he reached out. He quickly dropped his hand, sadness washing over his features.
"I've been looking for you. Can we talk?" Tim was hopeful they'd be able to talk since they hadn't after the breakup.
"I, uhm, not right now. I've gotta go," Lucy said, a little guilt washing over her. She turned to walk away, but Tim grabbed her arm, pulling her back. Lucy pulled her arm out of Tim's grasp, and he quickly dropped his hand.
"What do you mean, "not right now," Lucy? I have been looking for you everywhere so we could talk. You dropped huge news on me days ago and haven't said anything since. We need to talk," He pleaded.
Lucy scuffed, her eyes casting down at the concrete as she kicked her foot at an imaginary rock. "Yeah, well, I had something special planned to tell you, but you ruined that." Tears brimmed her eyes as the memory of her planning on telling Tim they were having a baby came to mind.
A pang of hurt hit Tim in the chest. "I'm sor-"
Lucy held up her hand, stopping him. "I don't need your apologies, Tim. Now, I gotta go. We'll talk later." She turned and walked to her car.
Tim sighed as he walked back into the building, heading straight to Grey's office. He knocked on the door and waited for Grey to wave him in. He waved him in as he was finishing up a call.
"What can I do for you, Bradford?" He asked after hanging up the phone.
"Where's Lucy going?"
Grey raised an eyebrow, confused about why Tim was asking. "She didn't tell you?"
"Tell me what?"
Grey sighed. "She's going undercover."
Tim went pale. His world crashed around him as the word undercover passed Grey's lips. "What do you mean she went undercover?" Tim thought of all the worst-case scenarios that could happen while she was undercover. Their baby. How could Lucy put their baby in danger? "She's pregnant! How could you let her go undercover while she's pregnant?" Tim's voice was laced with anger now.
Grey held up his hand. "We know. Her and Nyla talked about it and Nyla made sure Lucy was going to be okay. Nyla will keep extra tabs on Lucy throughout this operation. If at any point her partner, herself, or Nyla feels like she needs to be pulled out, she'll be pulled."
Tim was at a lost for words now. He stormed out of Grey's office and headed towards Nyla's desk. Nyla saw the anger on Tim's face, but she wasn't phased by it. "Here we go." She muttered. Angela looked up, a confused look on her face. Nyla nodded her head, telling her to turn around. Angela turned to look and saw a furious Tim heading towards them. She turned back to face Nyla and raised her brow, wondering what was going on.
"How could you make Lucy go undercover?" He seethed.
"Lower your tone. I didn't make her do anything."
"She's pregnant, and you didn't stop her," he accused. Angela's mouth hung open. The news of Lucy's pregnancy took her by surprise. "Lucy's pregnant?"
Both Nyla and Tim ignore her. "But you sure didn't stop her."
"Tim, I asked her multiple times if she was sure, and she was adamant about doing it. Communication and check-ins this time around are different. She can pull out in a week, a month, or two months; it doesn't matter. As soon as she says the word, she's being pulled out. The same goes for if her partner or I feel she needs to be pulled; she will be pulled."
Tim storms off, and Angela hollers for him, but he ignores her. He can't believe Nyla let her go after finding out she's pregnant. He heads towards his shop, needing to drive around and try and take his mind off things. Just as Tim opens the driver's side door, it's pushed shut. He turns and looks at Angela, fury in his eyes. "Back off, Angela." He barks.
"No, Tim. You can't go out on the streets like this. You need to calm down."
"I'm fine," Angela scuffs. "Yeah, you sure do look fine. Your jaw is clenched, your shoulders are up to your ears, and there's fire in your eyes. But yeah, keep believing you're fine." Tim rolls his eyes. "What do you want me to say?"
Angela ignores his question. "Are you driving, or am I?" Tim hesitates but pulls the keys from his pocket and hands them over to Angela. He rounds the shop to the passenger side and gets in with a huff. Angela looks over at him before starting the shop and driving off.
They're silent for a while, listening to the radio as calls filter through to other shops. Angela is the first one to break the silence. "What's on your mind?" Tim thinks about it for a moment. Everything is on his mind, and he doesn't know where to start. "Everything," he says.
Angela snorts. "Obviously." She pauses to wait, seeing if Tim will say anything. He doesn't, so she continues. "So," she drags the word out. "Lucy's pregnant?" Tim looks out the window. "Yeah." He whispers.
Angela's eyes soften a little as she looks over at him for a brief moment. "How do you feel about it?"
Tim shrugs his shoulders. "I mean, I'm excited." He pauses for a moment, swallowing the lump in his throat. "I just, I don't know. I don't know where this leaves us. I don't know if she'll ever let me be in the baby's life. We haven't talked since the breakup and I don't know what to do."
"You know Lucy would never keep you from the baby. Just give her time. You'll both have some time to think while she's undercover. While she's undercover, go to therapy."
Tim scuffs and rolls his eyes. "I can't even believe she went undercover." His anger was starting to bubble up again. "She-What if she gets hurt?"
"It's a possibility, and she knows that. But Tim, you also have to trust her and her instincts. Lucy wouldn't just go undercover without weighing her options. So this has to be something that won't put her in complete danger."
Tim scuffs and rolls his eyes. "I just- I won't get to go to appointments and just be there for her. I won't get to hear the baby's heartbeat. I can't even ask her how everything's going. I don't know how long she'll be gone." His voice cracks at the end. Angela was just about to speak up when Tim's phone rang. He groans and pulls it out of his pocket, his breath catching as Lucy's name pops up on the screen. "It's Lucy." He clears his throat and answers.
"Hey."
"Hey, I've got to be quick, but I just wanted to let you know you're stuff is in a box by the living room. I know you know, so keep an eye on Tamara for me, please."
"Lucy, don't do this."
She sighs. Their conversation pauses for a beat. "It's already in motion. I gotta go." She rushes.
"Luc-" Before Tim could get anything else out, Lucy hung up. "Dammit." He whispers. Angela placed a reassuring hand on his arm. She knew this would be hell on him; all she could do was be there for him.

Lucy Chen x reader.
Reader is a firefighter. She works with Bailey and is Tamara's cousin. Tamara introduces her cousin to Lucy, and reader thanks her for taking Tamara in (she would have but cant(?) ) and Lucy developes a huge crush on her.
flowers and cheesecake
“I just want everything to be perfect,” Lucy says, running around the kitchen like a crazy person.
“Lucy..” Tamara huffs. “It’s going to be okay. She’s going to be more focused on the idea of me being in a loving household than how good your food tastes or how clean the living room is.”
“Still,” Lucy shakes her head, walking with a spoon over to Tamara for her to taste the soup, a hand cupped under the appliance in case any drops make its way out. “Taste this.”
“I’m telling you..” Tamara’s eyes shoot up after tasting the soup. “Mm. That is really good!”
“Okay,” Lucy speeds back over to the pot excitedly.
“What can I do to help?” Tamara folds, because if she’s being honest, she wants this to go well just as much as Lucy does.
“Um..” Lucy’s stands on her heel, pressing her lips together. “Could you maybe just clean up the living room?”
“You already cleaned that. I don’t think there’s anything I can do to fix that—“
Two knocks are heard on the door, and two of them freeze slightly. Tamara just saw you a few days ago, but the idea of you meeting her mother figure is very important to her.
“I’ll get it,” Tamara nods anxiously and makes her way to the door to open it.
You stand there, feeling just as anxious as Tamara was, but you didn’t let it show. You brought a cheesecake from a nearby bakery, as well as some flowers - for Lucy.
“Y/n,” Tamara let out an anxious breath. “Come in.”
“I know you told me not to bring anything, but it didn’t feel right not to, so I brought a cheesecake,” You shrugged as if it was no big deal. Turning towards Lucy, you hand her the flowers, your fingers slightly brushing. “And these are for you.”
“Me?” Lucy blushes. “Tha— thank you. I’ll just— let me go find a vase for these.”
Lucy disappears into her room and Tamara moves to take the soup off the stove before Lucy forgets.
“She might stutter like that all night,” Tamara turns towards you, putting on hand on her hip. “I didn’t tell her you were “pretty or whatever,” her exact words. So she might have something to say later.”
You chuckle along with your cousin, taking your bag off your shoulder and hanging it off a stool by the bar. Pulling out the same stool, you take a seat.
“To be fair, you didn’t tell me she was “pretty or whatever,” either,” You lift your brows. “Because she definitely is gorgeous.”
“Well,” Tamara stands confidently. “I wasn’t thinking about any of that when I invited you over for dinner. I was thinking about my only blood family meeting my newfound family.”
“I’m only messing with you,” You smile.
Lucy comes back with a glass vase in her hand, and moves towards the sink to fill it up part of the way. She turns towards the island bar to put the flowers in their new home.
“So.. what do you do?” Lucy asks, leaning onto the kitchen island on her palms. “For work.”
“I’m a firefighter,” You say. “I actually work with Bailey. You might know her. She’s dating John Nolan? I know he’s a cop.”
“Oh, Bailey? I love Bailey!” Lucy stands back up excitedly.
“Me too!” You nod.
“Okay..” Tamara looks between the two of you. “How about we eat?”
“Yes,” Lucy points at Tamara. “Oh.. wait.. we normally eat in the living room. Is that okay? Or— or we could eat here at the island.”
“No,” You shake your head, furrowing your brows slightly. “We can do whatever you would normally do. I’m not here to judge you or critique you. Just to get to know you.”
“Okay,” Lucy lets out a relieved breath, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. “That’s really good to hear.”
Tamara grabs a few bowls, enough for the three of you, and Lucy pours you each a small portion of the food.
The three of you move into the living room - you and Tamara sit on the couch while Lucy sits on the floor, the coffee table separating you - and enjoy your dinner.
You chat about random things, and after dessert you offer to help Lucy with the dishes.
Lucy turns her head to see Tamara scrolling on her phone, the TV up loud enough that if Lucy were to talk Tamara wouldn’t really be able to eavesdrop.
As Lucy turns her head towards you, you say, “Thank you for taking her in.”
“Oh,” Lucy smiles nervously, being caught off guard. “It’s no problem, really. I cared about Tamara the second I met her, and I still do.”
“I just really care about her,” You tighten your lips together, trying not to cry in front of the gorgeous woman you’ve just met. “I would’ve taken her in myself, but I really wasn’t in a good place then.”
“How come?” Lucy frowns.
“Well I’d just moved back down here after finding out about Tamara’s parents,” You slowly wash the bowl you’re holding. “And I wasn’t exactly set up or anywhere near ready to take her in.. I was still setting a lease on my apartment, and training with the new firefighters here. And by the time I was ready, she had already found you, which I am so grateful for. So, thank you.”
Lucy caught you off guard when she pulled you in for a hug, not even caring about your soapy and dripping wet hands.
“I’m sorry,” You wipe a small tear off your face using your lower arm.
“It’s okay,” Lucy promises, her hands resting on your shoulders after pulling away. “I’ve seen much worse.”
“Okay,” You let out a teary laugh, looking at Lucy’s smile - which you couldn’t help but admire.
After dishes were finished, you guys hung out for a little bit until it was time for you go.
“Thank you for having me,” You smile as you grab your bag from the stool, Tamara and Lucy following you to the door. “Keep the cheesecake, because I definitely won’t eat all of it. But I know Tamara will.”
“Oh wow,” Tamara lifts her eyebrows humorously, a huge smile playing on her lips. “Is that how it is?”
“You know I’m only kidding,” You jerk your chin upwards. “I’ll see you soon alright?”
Tamara pulls you in for hug, even though she’s not much of one for physical touch.
“Definitely,” Tamara pulls away. “All three of us soon again, too?”
“Of course,” Lucy nods, looking towards you. “I had fun.”
You get lost in her brown eyes, losing yourself for a second. “Um.. yeah, me too.”
Tamara, oblivious, says, “Maybe we could get breakfast one of these Saturdays. I’ll have to drag you both out of bed, but it’ll be so worth it.”
“Not a morning person either?” You question Lucy, a smile tugging at a corner of your lip. “My kind of woman.”
Lucy’s cheeks flame as you open the door and leave, leaving Tamara and Lucy in the doorway.
“I really like her,” Lucy nods to herself.
“Yeah?” Tamara smiles happily, so glad that the two of you hit it off.
“I think I have a crush on her,” Lucy says blissfully. “Well, I have an early morning tomorrow. See you.”
“What?” Tamara snaps herself out of her trance on the door. “Wait— Lucy, what did you say?!”

A Lucy Chen and party boy reader! Lucy and Aaron get called to Y/Ns house one night for a noise complaint and he flirts with Lucy, but then a few days later he get attacked by someone (maybe an ex) and Lucy is one of the officers that answers the call
Tumblr media
Lucy Chen x Male!reader
"7 Adam 15 we've got a 415 reported near your location at 1923 Oak drive," a dispatcher says through the shop radio.
"Dispatch show 7 Adam 15 responding," Lucy replies through the walkie.
"Looks like we are about 5 minutes away," Aaron says from behind the wheel, looking at the address that popped up on their GPS, "that address sounds so familiar."
"Well it is right in the heart of Beverly hills, maybe you partied there once," Lucy jokes.
"You know what now that you mention it, I think that is Y/N Y/L/N's place, he was two grades ahead of me in school but he and I ran in the same social circles," Aaron explains.
"Of course a party boy would get a noise complaint called on him," Lucy laughs.
"To be fair Y/N isn't as much of an entitled douche as the people he hangs around, he just has a lot of money and parents who were always traveling for work leaving him alone in a big empty house perfect for partying in," he goes on.
"Hopefully since you know each other he makes this easy on us, it's not even midnight yet and night shifts can be miserable when all you deal with are obnoxious drunks," Lucy tells him.
They arrive at your house which has loud music blasting and lights flashing from inside.
It takes a couple knocks for you to actually hear them but you were all smiles when you answered the door.
"Welcome to the party-" you start when you recognize a familiar face, "no way, Aaron Thorsen is that you? I heard you were a cop now, good for you man."
"Y/N, good to see you again but unfortunately we got a noise complaint for your party," Aaron informs you.
"Damn, it was Dave again wasn't it, he's been on my ass since I was a kid and he was pissed when my parents moved back east and left me the house," you huff.
"Uh is that a pig?" Lucy questions as a pig casually walks by behind you.
"Oh yeah that's Bubba, he's my buddy Josh's," you reply, "and what's your name gorgeous."
"You can call me officer Chen," she responds, trying not to let it show that she's attracted to you.
"Well officer Chen, you want to come inside and join the party so we can get to know each other a little better… maybe you can even tell me your first name," you tease.
"Just turn the music down okay," she says rolling her eyes, "if we get another call we will have to arrest you but something tells me you would like being handcuffed."
"If you're the one putting me in handcuffs then you are absolutely right about that," you smirk.
Lucy chuckles and turns around to walk back to the car.
"Dude Aaron you think you can get me her number?" You ask when she's out of earshot.
"Goodnight Y/N," he laughs following behind Lucy.
"Anything exciting happen on your shift?" John asks when Lucy and Aaron enter the bullpen in the morning to switch shifts.
"Lucy was getting flirty with a guy I used to party with," Aaron teases.
"I was not," Lucy scoffs.
"Was he cute?" Celina asks, both Aaron and John looking at Lucy waiting for an answer.
"Alright sure he was cute," Lucy admits, "but it's not going to happen, there's nearly four million people in Los Angeles what are the chances we even see each other again."
The chances were a lot higher than she thought because two weeks later her and Aaron are partnered on another shift responding to a bar fight which you just so happened to be a part of.
They enter the bar and see a guy punching you repeatedly in the face.
"Woah hey, that's enough," Lucy says, pulling the guy off of you.
"Officer Chen, we've got to stop meeting like this," you say smiling up at Lucy, slightly dazed with blood running down your face.
She helps you get off the floor while Aaron tries to calm down the guy you were fighting.
"Y/N, what a surprise, are you going to tell me how many drinks you had tonight or am I going to have to get the breathalyzer," she asks.
"I haven't had anything to drink I just got here! That asshole threw the first punch," you explain.
"Because he slept with my girlfriend!" The other guy yells as Aaron is putting him in handcuffs
"She told me she was single, I swear," you state.
"Okay let's get you cleaned up," Lucy says grabbing some napkins that were sitting on the bar to wipe away the blood dripping off your chin before turning to the bartender, "you got a towel or something?"
He looks behind the bar and finds a rag, handing it to Lucy who drops the bloody napkins and switches to the rag.
"Ouch," you wince when she wipes blood off your upper lip.
"I think your nose is broken, we should take you to the hospital," Lucy tells you as another pair of cops walk into the bar after hearing of the commotion over the radio, "Aaron have them take the other guy to the station, and grab some ice to help the swelling on the way to the hospital."
Aaron nods and hands off the guy who punched you to the other pair of cops and asks the bartender for a bag of ice as Lucy guides you out to their cop car.
Aaron comes out a minute later handing you the bag of ice in the backseat before shutting the door, him and Lucy getting in the front to take you across town to the hospital.
"So did you really not know she had a boyfriend?" Aaron asks during the quiet drive.
"Hey I have some standards you know, I don't hook up with girls in relationships," you state, wincing again when he hits a pot hole and the bag of ice hits against your broken nose.
"How noble of you," Lucy laughs.
"Do you have a boyfriend officer Chen?" You ask.
"No I don't," she responds.
"So that means you and I can go on a date," you say.
"You think you're charming don't you," she chuckles, looking back at you.
"I've been told I'm very charming… and you didn't answer the question," you grin.
Lucy doesn't know what to say but she's saved by Aaron pulling into the hospital parking lot.
An hour later you've got your nose put back into its proper place and a discharge order from the doctor.
"Are you going to be pressing charges?" Lucy questions.
"No it's okay, I can't blame him for punching me," you reply.
"I'll call the precinct and tell them they can let him go," Aaron says, taking his phone out and walking away from your bed in the emergency care area leaving you and Lucy alone.
"So about that date," you say raising an eyebrow.
"If I say yes to a date will you stop getting the cops called on you?" She jokes.
"I make no promises," you laugh, "but does this mean you will finally tell me your first name?"
"Lucy, my name is Lucy," she smiles.
"I like that name, I look forward to our date Lucy."

⭒☆━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☆⭒
You woke up with a throbbing head and a clogged up nose. Originally, you thought you could power through it and suck it up long enough to finish a shift, but the moment you stood upright your world became disoriented.
Doing your best to breath through the dizziness, you reached over for your phone to call into work. Grey practically pleaded with you to stay home when you mentioned you would come into work if you needed to, “you have more than enough sick days, use them and keep your ass out of my station.” You just sighed and agreed, saying your goodbyes when he wished you to get better soon.
Without much thought to it you passed back out on your warm comfy bed, hoping sleep would rid you of the constant pain your brain was forcing you to endure.
Lucy checked her watch when she got in, thinking maybe you were just late or had been caught in some early morning traffic. As the time ticked away she decided maybe it would be best to text you, and when she didn't get an answer her thoughts ran around her head like an athlete competing in a race that would determine if they go farther into their season.
She opted to check in on you when she was out on patrol, getting into her squad car and making you her first check up of the day, praying to whatever could hear her that you were there and okay.
Pulling up to your apartment she felt a ping in her chest, she wasn’t sure why she was so worried about you. You guys weren't exactly a couple, but the others would argue that you two were basically already married, you both would laugh it off and call the team crazy, still continuing the narrative that you two were just ‘friends”.
Lucy knew better than that though, she knew you were the first person she called when she was having a rough night and needed a warm bed to share with someone, you were the first she told about good news, you are the only person she truly, and deeply loved with every living and beating part of her body.
She grabbed the key you had given her for the nights she needed someone, after the Rosalind situation you forced her to promise you that no matter the time of night or day she would come over whenever she needed to. Lucy wouldn’t say she now abused the fact she had a key to your place, but it was used more than her own key to her apartment at this point.
“Y/n?” Lucy called out, she heard the faint sound of a groan coming from your bedroom, alerting her of your presents. “Hey, are you oka-” Her words were paused by the sight of you, your skin was shining with sweat and you were cramped in a fetal position. “My love, what happened?” she quickly came over to you touching your forehead, flinching at how warm it felt compared to her skin.
You only groaned and rolled over, “i really don't feel good luce.”
You tried your best to explain all your symptoms, but your scratchy throat only allowed for so much irritation before you were in a coughing fit. Lucy rubbed your back gently, doing her best to coax you through your attack, “Here let’s get you out of this stuffy room, and on the couch, yeah?” she encouraged. You nodded leisurely and threw your arm over her shoulder, allowing her to help you to your living room.
Quickly, Lucy put anything and everything you could possibly need besides the toilet in arms reach. “Before I leave, do you need absolutely anything else, babe?”  you only smiled at her with droopy eyelids, “No, but i wish you didn’t need to leave” you pouted at her causing her to smile.
“Call me or text me if you need me, I'll be here in an instant.”
And then she was gone, you continued to pout until her next check up with you during lunch. “Okay, love, i brought you some chicken noodle soup and some cough syrup” she set the soup in front of you with cold water and a pre-measured cap of medicine. “Thank you, love” you croaked out, “You don’t have to thank me” she replied while helping you get in an upright position so you could comfortably eat your food and take the disgusting medicine.
“I'll be back after my shift, and remember to call-” “call you if i need anything, i know, honey.” you finished her sentence, she left you with a quick kiss on your forehead.
After eating and forcing yourself to down the medicine you fell back asleep, you woke up a handful of times with the constant tossing and turning, and being too hot or too cold. You finally decided you had slept enough and reached for the tv remote, aimlessly flipping through channels.
You heard the door click and a smile began to grow on your face, “sorry i'm late! Traffic has been just awful today” Lucy explained, taking her shoes off and sitting her to-go bag on the counter. “It’s okay hon.” you looked at her as she sat down.
“How are you feeling?” Lucy asked you, as you laid your head down on her lap looking up at her, “I've certainly been better” you joked.
She reached her soft fingers to rake through your hair, massaging your scalp, aiding the headache that had been attacking your head all day long. “Well i'm here now, darling” she looked down at you, soothingly rubbing your forehead, lulling you to sleep.
She gave herself an imaginary pat on the back at getting you to sleep so quickly, making a mental note that maybe when you get better she’ll finally take you on a long awaited date.

heyy love, could you do a tim bradford x fem reader (she is a officer) where they are married and he is totally whipped for her like he does everything she asked him without hesitance.
like one time (this take place when lucy just had become his rookie not a long time ago) for some reason tim, lucy and reader were patrolling together (lucy or reader was sitting in the backseat of the patrol car) and tim was being kinda harsh on lucy like he always is, so reader told him to be nice and scold him. lucy was trying told back her laugh the whole time.
hope this makes sense 😭
Nice for a price

Sitting in the back of the shop was... weird, to say the least. But Grey had asked you to accompany Tim and his rookie, Lucy, so you didn't have another choice.
Tim was his usual grumpyness, an attitude that you hated. When you were alone together, at home, he was different, like he was another person.
He would be all fluff and cuddles, doing everything you wanted - you just had to ask. Not that you would have let him do everything, but he would have done it without asking questions.
Now, telling Lucy that she should listen more carefully and not frivolously promise a victim to find the bags that had been stolen from her car - a crime that had a solving rate from 0.2% - his voice rose.
"You can't just tell them that you'll find their belongings!" he told her harshly, all the while looking at the street. "To promise a victim something means that they'll be even more disappointed when you can't actually solve the crime, causing them to blame us for it!"
Rolling your eyes you sighed, leaning your head back against the headrest.
You knew how he was with his rookies - hell you'd been his rookie at some point as well - but that didn't mean that you liked his attitude towards them.
"If you-" he wanted to continue, but you cut him off.
"Tim." you warned him, looking at him through the rear view mirror. "What?" he gave back, brows furrowed, as Lucy followed your interaction with great interest.
Giving him a pointed look you crossed your arms above your chest. "She's new, she can't know everything that we do." you told him, brows furrowing as well.
"Maybe, but she has to eventually learn It!" he gave back, shaking his head. "Yes, but you can't expect her not to make mistakes during her first days. So be nice and tell her nicely, to not promise something to a victim and you might get a price for it."
That you meant yourself - naked - as a price, you kept to yourself, even though you knew that he knew what you meant.
Lucy smirked, biting her lip to hold it back, though.
Rolling his eyes Tim huffed and you hit him through the seat. "Ouch!" he made, looking back at you in anger, though it slowly faded at the look you gave him.
"Okay, okay!" he gave in, shooting Lucy a look as she snickered. Covering it up as a cough she tried to avoid another speach.
"But I want my price."
Biting your lip you shook your head at him.
You could see how hard it was for Lucy to hold back the laugh that bubbled up, when Tim looked back at the street.
Smiling you looked out the window, silently laughing to yourself.
You just had to push him a little sometimes.

Dream a little dream of me
Description: Based on Season 4 Episode 17. Some things are the same and some things are my own added flare. So I hope you enjoy!
Words: 2617
Warnings: mentions of anxiety, lots of tears, mentions of what happened to Lucy. If there is any other warning I should put in here, please let me know!
A/N: This is a long one, so strap in for the ride!
Lucy emerged from her bedroom and stopped in the doorway. "What is that smell?" she asked cautiously.
Tamara smiled. "Breakfast. I saw this recipe on Cliptalk and wanted to try it." She placed the food on a plate and handed it over to Lucy.
"Ooooh, okay. It looks interesting." She takes a bite, contemplating all the flavors bursting in her mouth. "Okay, it's not bad; it has some uniqueness to it. For once, I can say this Cliptalk recipe isn't all that bad. What's all the fuss for?"
"I just want today to go well for you. I can't imagine having to tell the same story repeatedly and feeling like I'll never stop telling it."
"Well, I've told the story to my therapist a hundred times. I don't think one more time will hurt."
"I know, but it just seems so unnecessary for you to go through the worst moments in your life just so the D.A. can slap some more charges onto her time."
"All I have to do is tell the D.A. everything so they can prove Rosalind was an accessory in Caleb's crime."
"But is it even worth it when she's already serving four life sentences?" Tamara asked, concern and confusion laced in her voice.
"It's essential that she is held accountable for what happened. Most of her victims aren't alive to tell their stories, and I'm fortunate enough to do so." Lucy said with a bit of sadness in her voice.
Tamara nodded. "Fine, but I'm coming with you. Is Tim going to be there?"
Lucy let out a small chuckle. "You don't have to, and why would Tim be there?"
Tamara made her way around the counter, gathering up her stuff so they could leave. "I'm coming with you. That way, if you get upset, I'll be on standby with cute puppy videos and your favorite snacks. And I just figured he'd also be there to support you, like me." She smiled.
Lucy shook her head, a sad smile appearing on her face. "No, he won't be there. He's working today." She took a deep breath and grabbed her stuff. "Come on, let's go."
Walking into the main lobby of the ADA's office, Lucy took a deep breath and looked around, trying to come up with a small lie to have a moment to herself. "Umm, I am going to look for a restroom. I'll be right back."
"Do you need me to come with you?" Tamara asked with concern.
Lucy chuckled. "I think I can handle it. Will you let someone know that I'm here?"
"Sure thing."
Lucy quickly walked off and opened the first door that she saw. The lights were off when she entered, but she looked around to ensure she was alone. When she saw no one around, she leaned against the wall, her breathing becoming ragged. All the memories of Caleb and what happened to her quickly flashed through her mind. Her lip quivered, trying to keep her tears at bay. She squeezed her eyes shut and slid down the wall, trying to get the memories to disappear, a single tear making its way down her face. Once she felt she was okay enough, she wiped her face, got up, and exhaled a shaky breath. She cleared her throat and made her way out into the lobby.
As she entered, Tamara gave Lucy a soft smile that quickly dropped when she saw Lucy's red eyes. Tamara quickly dropped the conversation with the guy she was talking to and made her way over towards Lucy.
"Hey, you okay?" Tamara asked, concern lacing her voice.
Lucy looked around, trying to find Sara, the ADA she was supposed to be talking to. "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine." She waved her hand, dismissing Tamara.
Tamara could see the whirlwind of emotions in Lucy's eyes, but she didn't want to push her, knowing she'd already be going through a lot. Tamara nodded and squeezed Lucy's hand, letting her know she was here with her and was not alone during this difficult time. Just as Tamara was fixing to speak, she saw Chris quickly approaching them.
"Hi," Chris said, a little worriness written on his face.
"Hey, do you know where Sarah is? I'm here for trial prep."
Chris cleared his throat, his face a little paler than usual. "Umm, she is out sick today, and they asked me to step in. But it seems awkward, given our relationship. We can reschedule if you'd like?"
"Uhh, no, it's okay. We're professionals. We'll just be discussing the details of the case." Lucy said, stumbling over her words a little.
"Okay then, follow me."
Lucy turned to look at Tamara, a little bit of worry on her face. Tamara squeezed her shoulder and gave her a reassuring smile. Lucy nodded and followed Chris to a conference room.
They sat across from each other, an awkward silence filling the room as Chris pulled out the files from his briefcase.
He cleared his throat. "Alright, let's get started. Did you ever hear Caleb talking to Rosalind on the phone?"
"Mm, no." Lucy's eyes cast down at the photos sitting in front of her.
"Did he talk about her as if they were communicating?"
Lucy took a deep breath before answering, her eyes now meeting Chris's "No."
"So, how do you know he was working with her?"
Lucy chuckled disbeliefly. "B-because she told me herself when I visited her in prison. She repeated the song I sang in the barrel. How would she know that if she and Caleb weren't communicating?"
Chris's voice faded into the background as she looked back at the photos, resurfacing memories of that day—memories of her tattoo, getting into the barrel, and trying to fight her way out.
"Lucy, I just want you to be ready."
She finally snapped out of it. "I'm familiar with the concept of trial prep." A hint of anger in her voice.
"I know," Chris said softly. "Uhh, how about we take a break?"
"Yeah," Lucy said, a little softer this time.
They left the conference room and made their way to the break room, where Tamara and her new friend were hanging out.
"I was wondering where you went," Lucy said as she entered the room, a smile forming.
"Two watered-down coffees coming up," Chris said in the background.
"How's it going?" Tamara asked.
"Uhh, great."
"This is Austin. He's saving the planet."
"It's Good to know someone is trying to. You can go; you don't have to stay here."
"Mmm, I don't know. I'm finding this whole law thing fascinating." Tamara said, trying to convince Lucy.
Lucy can see right through her, a knowing smirk appearing. "Uh-huh. And what exactly is so interesting?" She chuckled.
Before Tamara can answer, Lucy's face drops, tears forming in her eyes. Tamara's face turns into confusion, wondering what suddenly made Lucy's mood drop. She raises an eyebrow at Lucy, waiting for her to say something. Lucy turns around as Chris continues singing the song she sang in the barrel. Lucy hears Tamara ask if she's okay but doesn't answer. Her breathing picks up, a million questions going through her head.
Chris's face immediately drops at the realization, and he quickly turns to face Lucy. "I—I am so sorry. It was stuck in my head, and I wasn't thinking. It was thoughtless and stupid, and I'm sorry."
Tamara and Austin quickly exit the break room, and she quickly whips out her phone to call Tim. She wasn't sure what to say to him but knew Lucy needed his support for the rest of this trial prep.
"The- the uhh song was stuck in your head because you've, you've seen the video." Lucy's voice was shaky, trying to keep her tears from falling.
"Well, yeah. It's evidence."
"Ri-right. No, of course, you did. You're in the D.A.'s office, and it's evidence, so… you've…" Lucy's voice cracked, tears threatening to spill at any moment.
"Look, I should have told you I'd seen it. I'm sorry." Chris said as he walked towards Lucy.
Lucy stepped back as he approached her, making him stop in his tracks. "No, you said that part already." Lucy swallowed thickly. "Umm, I, I just need a minute."
"Lucy, please-'
Before he could say anything else, Lucy raised her hands. " Please, can you…" She stopped, unable to say anything else as her throat became tighter from holding back her tears.
Chris nodded and whispered a yeah as he walked out and closed the door. Lucy paced the floor, groaning and breathing heavily. She couldn't believe Chris would be so careless about singing a song that once brought her joy and now brings back her worst nightmares. She sat on the couch, her head in her hands, lightly pulling on her hair to relieve some tension.
After being in the break room for a while, Lucy lifted her head as a knock formed on the door. Tamara softly opened the door, her face falling when she saw the tears staining Lucy's cheeks. "Sorry to interrupt, but Chris just wanted to know if you were ready to continue."
Lucy wiped her face with her sleeves. "Yeah, I'll be out in a moment."
"Okay," Tamara whispered as she shut the door.
Lucy took a deep breath and stood up from the couch, fixing her clothes as she went to the door. She turned the knob and took one more deep breath before opening it and making her way back to the conference room. When she entered, Chris was already in there waiting for her. As he heard her walk in, he quickly put his pen down and stood up.
"Again, I am so-"
"Sorry. Yeah, I know." Lucy said, not wanting to hear another apology from him.
She reached the other side of the table and pulled out her chair. "Umm," She cleared her throat. "I- I need you to do something for me."
"Yeah, anything."
"I need to see the video."
The barrel video?"
"Yeah. You've seen it; half the lawyers in this building have seen it, and I haven't."
Chris took a deep breath. "Lucy, it's… It's incredibly hard to watch."
"I need to see it." She said with a more demanding tone.
Chris nodded his head and turned toward his briefcase. Pulling out his laptop, he opened it up and clicked the mouse several times before placing it in front of Lucy.
"Should I stay or…"
"Mnh-mnh, no. Umm, thank you."
Chris made his way towards the door and opened it, looking back at Lucy before leaving.
Lucy's hand hovered over the mouse momentarily before a knock interrupted her. She quickly moved her hand away from the laptop and looked up to see Tim opening the door. She pulled her eyebrows together, wondering why he was there.
She quickly stood up from her chair. "What are you doing here? You're supposed to be at work."
"Tamara called and said you were upset, and she wasn't sure why. She was worried about you." He said, a look of concern on his face.
"I'm fine. She shouldn't have called you." A defensive tone laced in her voice.
Tim cocked his head. "Clearly you're not fine. I can see the redness in your eyes. You've been crying. Tell me what's going on." He pleaded as he made his way to Lucy, standing before her.
She looked down at her hands as she fiddled with her fingers. "I-I… Chris started singing the song I sang in the barrel as we took a break. He said it slipped his mind. I-I just hadn't put two and two together that he and probably every lawyer here has seen the video."
"Excuse me?" Tim questioned with disgust in his voice.
"He apologized already. Don't go all Tim on him."
"I should give that prick a piece of my mind. How do you let something like that slip your mind?"
Lucy could feel the anger radiating from Tim's body. She sat down in the chair facing the laptop as he paced the room momentarily, trying to keep from walking out the door and causing a scene.
After a moment of calming himself down, he looked over at Lucy. "What are you doing?"
"I need to watch the video."
"Video of what?"
"Of me in the barrel." She whispered.
Tim made his way over to the chair next to her. He spun her chair to face him. "Are you sure you want to do that?" He asked, grabbing her hands.
Lucy looked into his eyes, so he knew she was serious. "Yeah, I am."
"Do you want me to stay?"
"Will you?"
A small smile formed on Tim's face. "Of course I will."
Lucy took a deep breath and turned back to face the laptop, her hand hovering over the mouse. She looked at Tim, who nodded, letting her know he was ready. With one more deep breath, Lucy played the video.
It started playing, and the sound of her fist slamming against the barrel startled her. Tim quickly placed his hand on her shoulder, squeezing it to let her know she was safe. Lucy couldn't sit still. Her hand lightly scratched her forehead, kept moving her hair out of her face, and finally, her finger rested on her top lip, rubbing it back and forth. As she closes her eyes, the video continues to play in the background. She bounces her leg, her anxiety becoming heavier as the video plays. A single tear slips down her cheek. Tim looks over at her, bringing his hand up to wipe her tear away. This makes her break down into a full-on sob. He quickly wraps her into his embrace, rocking her back and forth and whispering that she's safe and he's here. He's doing anything and everything to get her to calm down. His heart breaks for her, hating that she put herself through this, but he also knows she had her reasons and won't ever question why.
Long after the video ends, Lucy finally calms down enough to pull back from Tim's embrace. She stares at her feet while he looks directly at her, waiting for her to speak.
"Thank you." She finally croaks.
Tim placed his hand under her chin, lifting her head to look at him. Her red and puffy eyes finally met his. "I am always going to be here for you. No matter what."
"I know," Lucy replied with a small smile. "Umm, I don't want to testify anymore. I don't want to keep reliving that day over and over again. I want to leave it where it belongs, in the past."
Tim nodded, shut the laptop, and grabbed Lucy's hand. "Then you don't have to testify. No one is going to think less of you. Now, come on, let's get out of here."
They made their way to the door, Tim opening it to let Lucy out first. Tamara turned around at the sound of the door opening, happy to see Tim bringing out a happier-looking Lucy.
"Everything okay?" Tamara asked.
"Yeah, it will be," she said with a smile. She turned to look at Chris. "I've decided I don't want to testify."
"Understandable." He nodded.
"I've been trying to prove how strong I am, but… I survived that. I don't have anything to prove." Tamara walked over to Lucy's side and hugged her.
"You don't have to explain yourself. We have enough evidence to convict her without you. I promise."
With that, Lucy, Tamara, and Tim walked toward the elevator and left. Leaving everything behind and never looking back at this day again.

can we get a lucy chen x reader? r is talking to nyla or someone abt the crush they have on lucy but she overhears and assumes its abt someone else? she ignores r until r gets fed up and corners her one day and tells her that lucy is her crush? thank u !!
okay i’m back to writing now 💗💗
idiots
“I’m over it,” Nyla complains to you and Angela in the break room one day.
Your eyebrows furrow at your two best friends when Angela starts nodding along with Nyla.
“What?” You frown. “Did something happen?”
“We’re over you,” Angela purses her lips. “You and your little girl crush.”
“We wish you’d just tell her already,” Nyla stirs her coffee. “You know she likes you back. So why don’t you just ask her out?”
You huff, “I really like her, and I don’t want to mess things up. And—“
“We aren’t a hundred percent sure she likes you,” Angela and Nyla roll their eyes as they mock your words in unison.
“Yeah,” You nod.
“You could always just.. ask her,” Angela says sassily, hiding her face behind her coffee cup.
You glare at both of them, “That’s scary. What if she doesn’t want me like that? I mean— then when we rode together it would be so awkward..”
“I’m sure she has at least a small crush on you.”
“How can you be so sure?” You’re bouncing on your toes. “Would you guys ask her for me? Please? Pleaseeeeee?”
“You’re more than capable,” Nyla says, squinting at you.
“So you guys don’t love me?” You cross your arms jokingly.
“Yep, that’s exactly it,” Angela nods sarcastically. “That’s just why I took you out and bought you at least ten books for your birthday last week.”
“And that’s why I took us all out to dinner for your birthday,” Nyla tilted her head.
“Hey guys—“ Lucy stumbles into the room, and your head is immediately turning towards her.
“Hey Luce,” You beam, a wide smile on your face, along with an indescribable light in your eyes that not even Nyla or Angela could explain.
But Lucy’s expression doesn’t match yours — not in the slightest bit. Her cheeks are flushed and she looks she just witnessed someone running over a cat and not stopping to check on it.
Lucy’s body slouches the slightest bit, and her eyes flutter sadly as she says, “Roll Call.”
“You okay, Lucy?” Your eyes soften as you reach for her, but she takes a step backwards.
“I’m not feeling too well,” The lie came out easily, like it wasn’t hard at all and she didn’t need a second thought.
“Oh, well—“
“I’ll see you,” Lucy looks away from you with a sad look, walking backwards and almost running into the door frame on her way out.
You turn back to the detectives with a frown on your face.
“What?”
Angela and Nyla share a look, shake their heads, and walk around you to make it towards the roll call room.
“Hey!” You lean against the counter as Lucy signs out for a war bag. “Who you with today?”
“No one,” Lucy shrugs nonchalantly, signing the last few letters of her name sloppily so she can get out of there. She slams the pen down extra hard and hurries towards the garage.
“Me either,” You follow her into the room, and wait as she opens the trunk and loads her bag. “Wanna ride with me?”
“Well.. I’m ready to go. So, if you want to ride with me you better get a bag fast,” Lucy says as she slams the trunk shut and sits in the driver seat, still not meeting your eyes.
Something in you said she was upset with you, especially after your encounter with her and the two detectives a few days earlier, but you didn’t want her riding alone. And you didn’t really like riding alone, either. You frown, but go and get a bag for yourself, nonetheless.
You load the bag and shotgun into the trunk and hurry over to the passenger seat to ride with Lucy.
“Hey..” You put your seatbelt on quickly before Lucy pulls out of the garage. “You okay?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Lucy just barely meets your eyes as she puts her hand on the back of your seat, turning to pull out of the garage.
“I don’t know.. I just—“
“I’m good,” Lucy shrugs again — something she only does a lot when she’s upset — but you don’t press any more. “Let’s just work.”
You open your mouth to speak again, because normally Lucy enjoys talking or sitting in a comfortable silence, but today she just turns the radio on to drown out the unusual and uncomfortable silence.
“There’s a fight breaking out at a gas station near Chen and L/n—“ A voice comes over the radio, but you’re too distracted to decipher who it is.
“Show us responding,” Lucy grabs at the radio quickly, desperately trying to get out of this awkward situation with you.
As Lucy pulls up to the scene, you say, “You get one, I get one?”
Lucy doesn’t answer, she just gets out of the car and starts detaining one of the men.
You go for the one on the ground, as you thinking Lucy might need to take her anger out a little, so you give her the more aggressive one.
As you’re cuffing your guy, Lucy’s guy elbows her in the face when she tries cuffing him.
You push your guy against the shop, not even caring if he gets away or not, and you hurry over towards Lucy who is holding her face in one hand and the cuff in the other.
“Are you okay?” You force her hand away from her face, checking the forming bruise.
She leans into your touch for only a second, but then you see a flash of some sort of recognition in her eyes, and she’s pulling away from you.
“I’m fine,” Lucy pushes you away, and finishes cuffing her guy. “Let’s take these guys back to the station.”
“Um.. okay,” You nod and awkwardly follow behind her.
“Maybe try talking to her?” Angela shrugs as you, her, and Nyla all grab lunch from your favorite burrito truck.
“I’ve tried. What do you think I’ve been doing for weeks?” You threw your hands up in a frustrated voice.
“She seems fine when I’m around her,” Nyla throws out there. “What? I’m just saying.. maybe it’s you?”
“That’s not funny!” You try to playfully hit Nyla, but she moves at the last second.
“I’m not laughing,” Nyla shook her head, a small smile on her face as she takes a bite out of her burrito.
“It’s annoying,” You put your head back as you wrap your arms around yourself.
“We know,” Angela says, being the reassuring and helpful friend while Nyla was being the annoying and joyous one. “But I’m just saying, maybe try and have an honest conversation.”
“I mean.. I could try. She might be going through something at home,” You bite on your nail anxiously, not sure if you’re trying to tell yourself that or them.
“Mhm,” Nyla agrees, mouth full. “Totally.”
“Okay, you’re not helping,” Angela rolls her eyes, pushing Nyla in the direction of your regular table. “Go sit.”
“Whatever,” Nyla rolls her eyes and goes to sit at your table.
“Do you really think it’s me?” You look up at her with a sad expression — eyebrows furrowed, eyes full of sadness. “I mean— what have I done to make her angry with me?”
“Nothing. I don’t think it’s you, sweetie,” Angela puts her arm around you until her food comes. “I just think.. maybe something is going on at home, you know how her parents are.”
“Yeah..” You nod, staring down at the gravel.
“Why don’t you try eating with her?” Angela nods over to where she’s sitting alone, enjoying her veggie burger and fries.
“Okay,” You nod and grab your food, which came out just now.
You take your burrito and water over to the smaller table Lucy sat at, and sat across from her, not asking if you could sit before doing so.
“Veggie burger?” You ask even though you know her order by heart.
“Yep,” Lucy says before taking another bite of her lunch. “You?”
“Burrito,” You hold it up before taking a bite yourself, seeing as that’s the only way to keep things from being awkward.
“Hm,” She hums, taking her time to chew.
“How are you?” You ask after swallowing your bite of food.
“Good,” She shrugs. “Nothing new since you asked me two days ago.”
You swallow back the lump forming in your throat.
Lucy had never been this dry and she’s never not talked to you for this many days in a row.
“Are you mad at me?” You frown at her as she obviously tries to finish her food faster than she ever had before. “Slow down there, don’t choke..”
“I’m not mad,” Lucy shakes her head and stands to dispose of her trash. “I’ll see you later.”
“Oh— okay,” You slouch in your chair, still trying to figure out what you did to make her so distant towards you.
After a few more days of walking on eggshells around Lucy, you’ve had enough and came up with a plan to corner Lucy.
You’d just try and corner her somewhere around the station and try and coax it out of her.
And your plan was going to work because you made sure to inform Nyla and Angela of this plan so they could watch out for her.
They inform you that she just came through to process a criminal, just as you were in to talk to Grey about an upcoming leave you had to take for a family event.
She’s passing the break room as you’re coming towards her, and you take this as the perfect opportunity to push her into the break room to talk with her.
“Hey, Y/n— Hey!” Lucy tumbles back a little as you push her into the room and shut the door for privacy. “What’s your issue?”
“No, what is your issue?” You ask, crossing your arms over your chest.
“I don’t have an issue,” Lucy shakes her head, her demeanor changing from angry to calm.
“Please just stop lying to me,” You take a step forward, and Lucy tries to take a step back, but her butt is met with the table.
“I’m not,” Lucy’s eyebrows furrow as she lies straight to your face.
“You are,” You’re voice breaks just the slightest bit. “You won’t talk to me, you won’t ride with me, you won’t eat lunch with me.. god, you can’t even look me in the eye.”
Lucy’s breath shudders as she tries to look anywhere but at you.
“Luce,” The hurt in your eyes is evident. “Look at me.”
Lucy manages to look up at you, and hurt flashes through her own eyes. She bites on her cheek to either keep herself from crying or from talking, you aren’t sure which.
“What’s wrong Lucy?” You take a few steps closer to her, and you place a friendly hand on her shoulder. “Let me help you.”
“You can’t,” Lucy’s eyes flutter sadly, and you see that she’s about to cry.
You lift your hand up to wipe a tear from her face, but she flinches away from your touch.
“Why can’t I touch you?” You ask. “You let me touch you before— what did I do?”
“You didn’t do anything,” Lucy’s tears fall faster as she gets more upset over what she overheard a few weeks earlier. “I’m just giving you space.”
“Why?” You bite out.
“Because.. you like someone,” Lucy says sadly, and that’s when it hit you. “And that someone isn’t me.”
“Lucy—“
“I heard you,” Lucy bites her lip to stop her tears, but it doesn’t work. “When you were talking to Harper and Lopez about your.. crush. And it hurt to listen to that knowing..”
“Knowing what?”
“Let me talk, please. Just let me finish,” Lucy holds a hand out between the two of you. After a pause she continues, “It hurt listening to that conversation when I’ve had feelings for you since we were rookies, and that you didn’t reciprocate them like I thought you did. So I am stepping back for whoever this mystery girl is. She must be pretty great if you’re after her.”
Your head shakes sadly and your lips turn down in a frown.
“Lucy..”
“You didn’t know?” Lucy finished for you. “I know. And I didn’t plan on telling you, but if this was what it takes for you to understand, so be it.”
“You really didn’t know?” Your question causes Lucy to tilt her head in confusion. “You’re my crush, Lucy.”
“What?”
“I like you,” You point your finger to her chest. “I literally have your long Starbucks coffee order memorized, I know what you like from every fast food place so I can bring you something to surprise you. I know your favorite movies, songs— does that scream just friends to you?”
“I mean.. no. No, I didn’t think so, but when I heard you I thought..”
“You thought wrong, Luce,” You cup her cheek, removing a stray tear with the pad of your thumb.
“Good,” Lucy breathes out and pulls your face to hers by your collar. “So, so good.”
“For the record, I’ve liked you since we were rookies, too,” You pull away to tell Lucy, and she chuckles, pulling you back in.
“We’re such idiots..”
“Yes, yes we are,” You laugh.

You watched from the distance as your dad tried on different dress shirts in his bedroom. You had seen your father go on many first dates… maybe ‘many’ is an exaggeration, but that was beside the point, the point was that you had never seen him this nervous. He looked like a girl trying to find the right dress for the school dance, you couldn’t help but smile. He was in love.
You pulled out your phone, sending a quick text to Tamara
 He’s a mess, you sent.
A few seconds later your phone buzzed in your hands,
So is she lol.
You couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle, “What’s so funny?” Your dad asked as he gave you a quick glance.
You shook your head, “you guys have no idea how nervous you both are.”
He sighed, “Should I call her?” You gave him a nod. Tim gave you a smile, “First, what do you think?” he raised up a dark grey shirt next to a light gray one.
You rolled your eyes, “Does it even matter?”
“What if it clashes with her outfit?” He asked. After the two years you had lived with the man, this was the first time you had heard him say that phrase.
“I think all that matters is that you both are enjoying the date,” you suggested.
Tim looked at you with a smile on his face. After Isobel, he felt so lost within himself and somehow he found himself becoming a foster father to a young ten-year-old. It was only a year later that he began the adoption process. It was a long one, especially with the history with Isobel, he had waited a year and a half until the adoption was finalized. It was the best day of his life and he knows that there will be other days in his future that will try to complete, but he will always hold that day close to his heart. It was the day he learned how to be himself again, the day he learned that family didn’t always have to be by blood.
Now you were fourteen, looking forward to your fifteenth birthday coming up soon. A day that Angela was so busy preparing for because she knew as a Latina that you had to have a quinceanera, and Tim always tried his best to help you grow within your culture. It was one of the main reasons why he learned Spanish.
He let out a sigh as he reached for his phone, “do you-”
“If you don’t call her right now, I will call her myself, but I will video call her so she can see-”
“Alright, alright!” Tim chuckled as he dialed Lucy’s number.
You walked out of the room, sending Tamara another text.
I’m assuming you’re coming over with pizza? You sent.
You know me too well.
Ever since you met Tamara, she has been like an older sister. Maybe it was because the two of you were in the system and bonded over the traumatic shit both went through. Or because you both lived with cops that took you in and, although Chen is technically just her roommate, they were now your family.
Tim walked out of his room minutes later, “Alright, I am just a phone call away. Don’t forget to let Kojo out and please tell Tamara I said hi. Um- Am I forgetting anything?” He asked as he began patting his pants pockets.
“Keys and they’re in the key bowl by the door,” you stated as you scrolled through Netflix, Tim walked over to the key bowl, rolling his eyes as he grabbed his keys, “Bold of you to assume Tamara is coming over.”
“Is she not?” He asked.
“No, she is,” you smiled.
“That’s what I thought,” he sighed, “Don’t open the door for anyone but Tamara. You know the drill, make sure it’s her before you even op-”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, Can you go already so we can get this whole Lucy and Tim being continuously nervous over with?”
Tim took in a small breath, he couldn’t help but catch that you had called him by his first name. It had been two years already and you were still calling him Tim. Of course, he didn’t know how to tell you that calling him dad was okay with him and he didn’t want you to feel pressured to do so; but just hearing it would mean everything to him.
He gave you a small nod, “Call me if anything, alright? And make sure to turn on the alarm when I leave.”
“Yes, sir,” you watched as he walked out of the house, you waited for the sound of the lock before turning back around to continue your scrolling.
Twenty minutes later, you heard the doorbell ring, which was then followed by a phone call.
You quickly answered, “I assume you’re outside,” you said as you got up from the couch.
“Your assumptions are correct,” Tamara said. You opened the door to let Tamara in. She had been carrying a bag, of what you assumed is junk food, along with a box of pizza. “Alright, so I found this new candy that you just have to try!”
You locked the door behind Tamara, “Alright, but first I need a slice of pizza because I am starving!” You followed Tamara as she walked into the kitchen to put down the box of pizza. You instantly opened it and grabbed a slice, “I can’t believe I watched Tim go through every single nice shirt in his closet like he didn’t even do that on his first date with Asley!”
“Oh, you think that’s bad? Lucy’s whole closet is now on her bed,” Tamara commented as she unpacked the bag of junk food. “Do you guys have sodas?”
“Yeah, in the fridge,” you gestured towards the fridge. Tamara helped herself, as she always does when she comes over, and she came over quite a bit. “Why do you call your dad by your first name?” Tamara blurted out.
You shrugged, “I dunno, I guess… I guess I just feel like I am not allowed to call him dad.”
“But he adopted you”
“Yeah, but… I don’t know. I’ve wanted to, I just feel like I lost the moment to do so since it’s been two years since the adoption.” Tamara opened the box for a slice of pizza, “Has he talked to you about it? Or Lucy?”
Tamara looked down, “I know Lucy’s mentioned it. Something about he feels like he’s doing something wrong.”
You sighed, “What do you think?”
“I’m the last person you want to ask that.” You gave her a pleading look, and she let out a sigh, “Look, if it were me, the timing wouldn’t matter. He gave you a family, a home, he made you feel loved after everything you had been through in life… in a way, he gave you a second chance that not a lot of us get.”
She was right and you knew that. It had meant a lot coming from Tamara since she never got the opportunity to get this chance. She would argue that she did when Lucy took her in, but in a way it was different.
“Should I just do it randomly? Like just ‘Good morning, dad,’ just nonchalant about it?” You asked.
“Something like that,” Tamara smiled, “You’ll know how to do it when you feel ready and I think you know that you are.”
The two of you ate pizza and watched Game of Thrones for the next hour. At some point, you had gotten up and let Kojo out to the backyard, he had been whining by the door for a while.  Tamara had taken that opportunity to get up to grab some snacks when all the lights went out, you looked over at Tamara.
“Whoa,” She exclaimed.
“This is fine,” you stated as you got up from the couch. “Tim usually keeps a flashlight in a drawer in the kitchen,” you walked over to the kitchen, rummaging through the drawers. It didn’t take you long to find the flashlight. You shined it at Tamara who had her phone flashlight on.
Tamara sighed as she walked over to the window, “That’s weird.”
“What?” you walked over to her. You were quick to notice that the houses across the street still had power.
“Looks like the neighbors next door also have power,” Tamara pointed out. You looked over at the neighbors to your left, she was right, “Did Tim forget to pay something?”
You scoffed, “No, he’s pretty good at paying the bills on time.”
The sound of the floorboard creaking caused the two of you to quickly turn your heads, “I didn’t move,” Tamara whispered.
“Neither did I,” you whispered back. You felt your heart leap into your throat, “Maybe I should call Tim,” you whispered as you took your phone out of your pocket. As soon as you had unlocked it you noticed the no bar signal on the top right corner. “Fuck,” you whispered. Kojo was scratching at the door, whining to get back in.
“What?”
You showed her your phone, “I have no signal.”
“W-what? How?”
You looked around for something to use as a weapon, “I’ve heard Tim mentioned this before. Some people use jammers in order to block a phone’s signal.”
“You think someone is-” You held up your finger, Tamara stopped talking. The two of you fell silent, listening to the floorboards creaking increasingly.
“We need to get out of here,” you whispered. You glanced over at the door, “I’m gonna grab kojo-”
“No, if Tim were here he’d want you out, Kojo can fend for himself,” Tamara stated. Tamara quietly walked over to the kitchen grabbing a pan that was on the stove. You slowly walked through the living room, you knew Tim had a bat lying around somewhere for emergencies.
What happened next was a blur. One second you were looking over at Tamara as she inched closer to the front door and the next you were on the ground and you heard yelling. You fought back as the person who was attacking you pulled out a knife. You were trying your best to use the techniques Tim had shown you, but this man was tougher than you had ever imagined. You knew that it wasn’t an excuse, that even if he was tougher and bigger than you, you had to find a way to defend yourself.
“I got the other one,” you heard another voice yell out. You hadn’t realized there were two of them.
You looked over at where Tamara was, “Tamara, run!” You yelled out. You could see the hesitation in her, “Go!”
Tamara felt like running would be the biggest mistake, but she knew there was no way of getting help by staying here. The second man inched closer to her, she swung the pan that she had in her hands, hitting the man in the head, it was enough to stun him so she could get a running start. She ran out of the house and into the neighbor's front yard, running up to the door; she began banging on it, “Help!”
You, on the other hand, were trying to get out of the man's grip. You sucked in a breath knowing that you had to do something you never wanted to do. You opened your mouth and bit the man's arm as hard as you could, he let out a loud yell and let go of you.
“You bitch!” he yelled out as he lunged towards you with his knife.
You lunged away from him, trying to dodge the knife, but he was bigger than you and still quicker than you. You felt a sharp pain in your side, “What the fuck did you do, Rick?!” The other guy asked as he came back inside. “Do you have any idea what he’ll do to us if we bring her in like this?” You reached down to where you felt the pain coming from, feeling something sticky. The more you touched it, the more pain you felt. Your knees buckled and you fell to the ground.
“Fuck,” the man named Rick, looked at the knife and then at you. “I-I can fix this.”
“No! Forget it! It’s been compromised! We have to go, the other girl ratted us out!” The man began to make his way to the back door. “Let’s go!” he yelled out again. You lay on the ground, watching as the blurry image of them ran out of the house.
~~
Tim couldn’t help but look towards the door every other second. Was part of him worried someone from the station would see him? Yes. But also, he had a habit of looking at the door every time someone walked in, especially when he was nervous.
“Are you worried someone from the station is gonna walk in?” Lucy asked.
“What?”
“You are,” Lucy said in disbelief.
“No, I-”
“Wow.”
“What are the odds?”
Lucy rolled her eyes, “It’s likely.” She cleared her throat, she didn’t want to have this discussion right now. “So, Y/N’s quince is coming up, how is that coming?”
“Good, good. I um probably going to be in debt for the next year so you can expect a nice Christmas card from us rather than nothing but emptiness inside.”
Lucy chuckled, “Angela is running you dry with this quince.”
“That she is. Anything Y/N wants, she gets. I swear she spoils her like she's her own kid.”
Lucy smiled, “I’ve noticed.” Lucy’s phone began to ring, she took it out, letting out a small chuckle at the sight of the name. “It’s Tamara, the girls are probably trying to check in on us,” she rolled her eyes. “Should I let it go to voicemail?”
Tim wanted to say yes let it go to voicemail, but there was a voice in the back of his head telling him not to. “Answer it,” he smiled, “Two can play this game,” he teased.
Lucy placed the phone on speaker, “Before you even ask, yes we are still at the restaurant and no I am not bringing you leftovers, I know you guys had pizza,” Lucy said with a hint of laughter behind her voice.
“Lucy,” Tamara cried out.
Lucy and Tim’s facial expressions changed, “Tamara, what’s wrong?” Tim spoke up.
“It all happened so quickly,” Tamara began.
“Just take a deep breath, Tamara,” Lucy began, “What happened?”
Tamara let out a soft sob, “Someone broke in the house. They cut the power and we had no way to call anyone. I-I ran to the neighbors for help, but Y/N was still inside, I-I’m sorry, I couldn’t get to her.”
Tim felt his chest tightened, suddenly this world no longer felt safe. In all his years working as an officer, he never imagined this to happen. Yes, he was prepared for it, or so he thought he was, but now, this world was more of a menacing place than he had realized.
Tim wanted to tell Tamara that it was okay, but he couldn’t, because to him, nothing was okay at the moment. He had failed the one promise he had kept to himself the day he took you in and that was to keep you safe. Now the one day he decided to be vulnerable and comfortable, it all came crashing down.
Tim got up from his seat, “Where are you?” Lucy asked.
“St. Vincents,” He heard Tamara say as he left a few bills on the table and began walking away. Lucy told Tamara that they’d be there in a few before catching up with Tim.
“Tim,” Lucy began, you could hear the pain within her voice. “Tim,” Lucy pleaded. Tim quickly turned around as they got outside. “I’m driving,” Lucy stated as the exited the restaurant.
“No-”
“No,” Lucy exclaimed as she got in front of Tim, “you’re not in the right mindset to be driving right now.” Tim opened his mouth to argue with her, “I’m driving.”
Tim closed his mouth and gave her a nod. They got into Lucy’s car and drove off to the hospital. Lucy broke a few laws that day, but Tim probably would’ve broken a hundred just to get there sooner. Tim didn’t wait for the car to be fully parked to hop out, he was already inside the emergency room making his way to the receptionist when Lucy made her way into the hospital.
“My daughter was just brought in, her name is-”
“Tim,” Lucy choked out, her eyes had landed on a horrific sight in front of her.
“Lucy!” Tamara called out, Tim turned around just in time to see Tamara running over to Lucy. He looked around for you, hoping to see you running up to him, but his heart sank deeper every second that passed. He walked over to the girls, his eyes landed on what Lucy was focusing on.
“Oh God,” he let out a shaky breath, as he watched nurses surrounding work on your wounds. He ran up to you, one hand grabbing yours and the other brushing the hair out of your face. “Y/N, sweetie, it’s me,” Tim began, “I'm here, okay?” he brought your hand up to his lips and placed a small kiss on them. He felt the tears begin to stream down his cheeks. “Is she going to be okay?”
One of the nurses let out a deep sigh, “The stab wound barely missed one of her aorta’s by an inch, it did knick her one of her lungs causing her to loose a significant amount of blood.” one of the other nurses began to lift the handles on the side.
“We’ll be needing to take her up to surgery now, to repair the damages,” another nurse said.
Tim couldn’t find the strength to let go, but he knew he had to. “Tim,” Lucy began, “they need to take her.” She placed a loving hand on his shoulder.
Tim felt tears begin to well up in his eyes, he placed a small kiss on your forehead, “We’ll get through this okay? You can’t leave me.”
Lucy felt like the villain as she pulled Tim away from you, but she knew he wouldn’t have been able to do it on his own.
Tim looked over at Tamara, “What happened?”
Tamara let out a small sob, “I-I don’t know. One second we were watching Game of Thrones and the next the power goes off.” She took in a deep breath, “We decided it was safer to be outside of the house once we realized we had no signal, she wanted to get Kojo but I told her to just leave him outside and that’s when they attacked her. I should’ve stayed with her,” she looked at Tim with remorseful eyes, “I’m so sorry, she told me to run, but I should’ve stayed.”
Tim shook his head, “No, you got help, if it weren’t for you, you both would’ve probably been worse off.”
“Tim,” Lucy called as she spotted Sgt. Grey walks towards them.
“Sir,” Tim began.
“I came as fast as I could, How is she?” he asked.
Tim sighed, shaking his head, “She’s in surgery, the stab wound hit one of her lungs.”
Sgt. Grey shook his head, before turning to Tamara, “We’re going to need your statement if you’re up to it, if not we can always wait for tomorrow.”
“I think after all they’ve been through, I think it’s best if we wait for tomorrow,” Lucy chimed in.
Tamara gave him a nod, “Tomorrow it is.” Sgt. Grey stated. He looked over at Tim, he noticed he hadn’t said much. His eyes were focused on the double doors where they had just wheeled you through. He walked closer to Tim as Lucy and Tamara walked over to some nearby chairs to sit down. “How are you holding up?” Sgt. Grey asked.
Tim shook his head, “I wasn’t there.”
“And you won’t always be there,” Sgt. Grey confirmed. “You can’t always be there, it’s one of the things we have to get used to when being a parent. We have to hope we raise them with enough knowledge so they know what to do in situations like this.” He let out a sigh, “trust me, it isn’t easy.”
Tim nodded, “I’ve noticed.”
“You let me know if you need anything,” Sgt. Grey gave Tim a soft smile before walking over to the nurse's station. Tim walked over to Lucy, sitting down beside her. No words were exchanged and somehow he preferred it this way. Lucy held his hand, squeezing it every once in a while as if she were checking in on him and he would squeeze back.
Tim felt like he had been waiting for days when in reality it had only been an hour. His eyes never left the double doors that were ahead of them, his body would jump every time someone would walk through them.
Eventually, a man in scrubs walked through them, his eyes scanning the lobby of people waiting to be seen or waiting for a patient. “Family of Y/N Bradford?” He called out.
Tim quickly got up from his seat, “I’m her father,” he quickly stated as he walked up to the man. “How is she?”
“Hello, I’m Dr. Avery, I was the lead surgeon. I am happy to say that the surgery was a success,” Tim let out a relieved sigh. “We’ll need to keep her for a few days for observation of course, but she’ll be good to go home after.”
Tim smiled at the man, “Thank you, when can I see her?”
“She’s in recovery right now, I can only allow one visitor,” The doctor stated.
Tim looked at Lucy, “Go, we’ll come back in the morning,” Lucy said.
“Do you mind stopping by my place and picking up Kojo? I think Y/N would kill me if she knew he stayed the night outside.”
Lucy let out a small chuckle, “Yeah, we’ll pick him up.”
“I’ll have you follow me,” the doctor gestured for Tim to follow him.
Tim followed Dr. Avery to the recovery room, he knew this hospital too well to know where he was going, but he never thought he would have to be here for a reason like this and he never wanted to be in this hospital again unless it was for work. Once he got to the room, the doctor left to finish up some paperwork.
Tim sat beside the bed, he gently held your hand. You looked so fragile to him as if you were a newborn, he was scared that one wrong move would hurt you. He waited by your bedside throughout the night. The morning sunlight began to peak through the windows, causing him to wake up. He gave you a small glance, sighing once he realized you were still asleep.
He leaned back in his chair, closing his eyes once again, hoping to get some extra sleep.
You began to stir, you could feel the pain in your abdomen and you heard beeping. Slowly opening your eyes, beginning to realize that you were now in the hospital, the last thing you remember was watching the two men run out of the house. “Dad?” you called out with panic in your voice.
Tim’s eyes darted open, “Hey,” he said as he sat up in his chair. He grabbed your hand, he was overjoyed that you were awake, but also overjoyed of the fact that you had just called him dad for the first time. Although he was trying to hide his excitement because he didn’t know how to react to it, he had been waiting for this moment for so long and now it was here but the situation was overshadowing it.
“How are you feeling?” He asked.
“Like shit,” you stated.
You winced as you tried to sit up, “Let’s try not to do that for now, alright? I know you’re uncomfortable, but I can get the nurses in-”
You waved your hand to stop him, “No, I’m fine.”
“You want to talk about what happened?” He asked.
You shrugged, “It all happened so quickly. The lights went out and Tamara noticed that the neighbors had electricity and that’s when we tried to call you, but our phones had no signal.”
“Looks like they used a jammer,” Tim speculated.
“That’s what I thought, we decided to leave but I wanted to get Kojo-”
“Kojo can take care of himself,” he stated.
“Tamara said you would say that, but someone attacked me as I got into the living room. Tamra was already at the door and she hit the other guy with a pan before running to the neighbors. I used all the techniques you taught me,” you felt tears well up in your eyes, “I tried-”
“Hey, hey, it’s okay. You fought back and you’re alive. That’s what matters right now,” Tim placed a kiss on the top of your head.
“I remember one more thing,” you began. “When the guy that attacked me stabbed me, the other guy got mad. He said ‘Do you have any idea what he’ll do to us if we bring her in like this?’ in those exact words.”
Tim felt the panic rush through his body, if his gut was right, he knew what these men were talking about. “Do you think they were planning on taking me?” You asked.
Tim didn’t want you panicking, he didn’t want you to feel like you couldn’t be safe because someone was looking for you. “I don’t think so,” he began, “But Angela is on the case, you’ll tell her what you told me and we’ll get this straightened out.” You nodded, “Now, how about we talk about the elephant in the room.”
You looked at him with a confused expression “What elephant?”
“You called me dad,” he smiled.
You rolled your eyes, “I can go back to calling you Tim.”
He chuckled, “No, no, it’s about time you called me dad. I was starting to worry you weren’t going to.”
“I felt like I lost my chance to do so,” you confessed.
“Honestly, if you had waited twenty years to call me dad, I would probably be sad that you waited twenty years but, overjoyed that you did,” he smiled.
“Be honest with me,” You began. “There isn’t anyone from my past that’s looking for me right?” You hadn’t spoken about your past in a few years, it was something you wanted to leave behind. “The last thing I need is these fantasmas (ghosts) coming back,” you added.
Tim sighed, “I don’t know, but you have me there and I can promise that from here on out–”
You shook your head, “You can promise to keep me safe but let’s face it, you’re not there with me when I’m at school or when you’re at work.”
“You’re right, I’m not. But I’m a cop. I have my ways and I know you too well.”
You smiled, “Yeah, I think you do.”
“Plus, if anyone does kidnap you, they’ll return you in two minutes.”
Your face turned into shock, “Wh-what?”
“Trust me, I don’t think they’ll be able to stand the twenty questions they’ll be getting from you or even the karaoke. I give them two minutes before they return you,” you let out a small laugh before you winced in pain. Tim sighed, he knew no matter what that he was going to protect you, and if he failed to do so, he was going to do everything he possibly could do, to get you back.

Being adopted into the Chen family continues to be the best thing that ever happened to you. It didn’t help your shyness much, but the love and sense of belonging you’ve found outweigh all the bad you’ve experienced. When you joined the military, becoming a military doctor, you overcame your shyness enough to be a great doctor. However, when you stop being a doctor, you’re back to the shy sister Lucy knows and loves.
The last time you were stateside, you met Tim Bradford and fell for him quickly. During the six months you were home, Tim learned nearly everything there is to know about you, and he loves all of you.
Now, in your seventh month stationed in Europe, you look forward to your weekly call home. You call one of two numbers: Tim or Lucy. They’re always together when it’s time to answer, so you know you’ll get a chance to talk to both of them and grow shy from across an ocean. Your dog is sitting beside you as the call begins.
“Hey, sis!” Lucy greets happily when the line connects.
The picture is blurry today, but you smile when you see your sister. She’s in her uniform, in an empty office at the police station. Being seven hours ahead means you usually catch her or Tim while they’re at work.
“Hi,” you answer. “Is Tim there?”
“He’s actually on patrol,” she answers. “I’m sorry; there’s a huge problem here right now so they’ve got a ton of people out there.”
“That’s okay. How are you?”
Lucy looks up when a door opens and turns the computer away.
“I’m pretty good. I want to hear about you, though, because not much has changed here.”
“Move,” Tim demands.
You can only see his hand as he reaches for the computer, and you duck away from the camera as they compete for your attention.
“Chen,” Tim says.
“Which one?” you ask.
“The one whose badge I can take. Just let me say hello.”
“Why don’t you just sit together?” you suggest. “Not to say I don’t enjoy this.”
Tim huffs as he pulls a chair beside Lucy, forcefully turning the computer so you can see both of them. He smiles, and you forget what you were going to say.
“Any word on when you’ll be home next?” Lucy asks.
“Nothing. I’m hoping to hear something soon though. There isn’t much happening, so they’ll probably need to move me soon anyway.”
“Then they should let you call more often,” Tim comments.
“I agree. I miss you.”
Tim elbows Lucy gently.
“She meant both of us,” Lucy argues. “Didn’t you?”
You nod and look up suddenly.
“I have to go,” you explain. “I’m so sorry. I love both of you and I’ll talk to you as soon as I can.”
“I love you,” Tim replies.
“Love you, sis. Be safe,” Lucy adds just before the call ends. “I miss her, Tim.”
“I know.”
Lucy continues staring at the blank screen, and Tim asks her about something he noticed days ago.
“What’s going on?”
“I just- I’m sad all the time. I don’t know if it’s just because she’s gone because I’ve been dealing with her deployments for years, but the only thing I want, have wanted for weeks, is to see her. It’s hard doing everything without her when she’s the only person I want to share things with.”
“I’m sorry, Lucy.”
“Bradford, Chen, we need you back out there when you’re done. This crime spree is getting worse each time we try to make progress,” Wade says.
“Lets go, well ride together,” Tim offers.
“Like the good old days!”
“I hope not exactly like those.”

“Superiors are giving you a choice,” your MC commander begins. “Transfer to Germany or temporary leave before being stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas.”
“What would I be doing in Texas, sir?” you ask.
“Continued training and teaching, mostly. And the temporary leave is only two months, but after all this time in Europe I assume you’d return to sunny Los Angeles.”
“I’d like to take the Fort Bragg position, sir.”
“Okay, I’ll let the Surgeon General’s office know. I’m sorry to have interrupted your call; video broadcast has ended, but if you’d like to make a phone call, share the good news, go ahead.”
“Thank you, sir.”
You walk into a private office, dialing Tim’s number and hoping he’s alone. Lucy has been down the last two times you’ve talked. She hides it well, but you’re her sister and can see through her.
“Bradford,” Tim answers.
“Chen,” you reply. “Are you alone?”
“Yeah, I am. What’s going on?”
“Is my sister okay? She’s seemed really sad.”
Tim sighs before he answers, “She misses you. A lot.”
“Then I need your help with something. I’m coming home.”
“When?” Tim asks. “I mean, I’ll help you with anything, but I’m so happy to get to see you again.”
You press your lips together, feeling heat rising in your cheeks.
“I should be there in a week or so, but I’ll let you know a date when I have one.”
“Okay. And the help?”
“I want to surprise Lucy. Any ideas?”
“Well, there is a restaurant she can’t stop talking about.”
“Tim? I’m going to be home for two months.”
“I get you for two months?”
“I can’t wait,” you answer sarcastically.
“Give me a date and time and I’ll get Lucy there.”
“Will she get suspicious?”
“Who do you think I am? She won’t have a clue.”
✯✯✯✯✯
A week later, Lucy has been checking her phone nonstop. She hasn’t heard from you since you abruptly ended the last call, and her concern and sadness about missing you are beginning to overflow. All of her fellow cops have noticed, so when you call and ask a few of them to meet at Lucy’s favorite restaurant to cheer her up, they happily agree.
“Get ready,” Tim demands at the end of the shift. “We’re going to dinner.”
“Why?” Lucy asks.
“Because we’re both worried and need a distraction. She’s fine, but you’re going to make yourself sick worrying like this, Lucy.”
“Okay. Give me ten minutes. Where are we going?”
“Your favorite.”
Lucy smirks as she walks to the locker room. Tim checks his phone but hasn’t received any message saying you landed.
✯✯✯✯✯
“Easy, boy,” you whisper, patting your dog over the Military K-9 vest as the plane lands.
The other passengers are kind enough to let you get your duffel bag and exit the plane first, rushing to the car rental counter and leaving for the restaurant. You’re running late, and don’t even think about letting Tim know you’re back in Los Angeles. As you park, seeing the ‘Service Animals Welcome’ sign on the door, you realize you forgot to tell Tim your dog is with you.
“Let’s go introduce you to my family.”
Pulling your phone from your pocket, you call Tim.
“Hey,” he answers. “I don’t have long before your sister shoves me over a balcony to talk to me.”
“Patio?” you ask, smiling.
“Yep.”
I’ll be over in a minute.”
“Is that my sister?” Lucy asks, attempting to pull Tim’s arm away from his ear to take the phone.
“Tim, I have to go. I love you. Tell Lucy I said hi,” you say before ending the call.
✯✯✯✯✯
Lucy sits down, dejected. She tries to enjoy the appetizers and her friends sitting around her, but she wishes you were at the party. The door opens, and Lucy glances over before picking up her head and giving her full attention to the person walking through the door. Her jaw drops as she watches you walk toward her, a dog at your side. Lucy’s shock turns to a smile as she jumps from her seat to hug you. As you return her hug, smiling as you whisper how happy you are to see her, Tim’s hand covers yours as he takes the leash from you.
“Hey, bud,” he says to the dog. “Lucy, could I get a turn?”
“No,” she says against your shoulder.
“Hi, Tim,” you greet, turning your face away when he smiles.
“Hiding from my smile,” he muses. “Can you survive two months with me?”
“Two months?!” Lucy repeats, pulling back.
“I like your dress,” you murmur, seeing her for the first time in too long. “And, yes, I have two months of leave before I move to Fort Bliss.”
“Where is that?”
“Texas.”
“You’re staying stateside?” Tim interjects, wrapping an arm around your waist. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
You shrug, turning in his arms to hug him.
“Welcome home,” he says, kissing your jaw as his arms tighten around you.
“Thanks for helping me with the surprise.”
“I’ll always be here with you.”
“So will I!” Lucy adds.
“Are you going to fight to hug me now?” you ask.
“Yes!” everyone at the table answers.
“And you brought a dog!” Lucy cheers, lowering her hand to pet your dog.
“I love you,” Tim says, pulling a chair out so you can sit between him and Lucy.
“I love you,” you reply softly. “I have one more thing I didn’t tell you, though.”
“What?” Lucy and Tim ask together.
“The position I took is a teaching job, so I’ll have more time to visit.”
They hug you simultaneously, no longer fighting over who gets to go first. You drop your chin towards Tim’s arm and smile. When your dog puts his paws in your lap and joins the hug, you know you are finally home. Sitting at a table with the two people you love most in the world, you know the next two months will be amazing, even if you're shy the entire time.

The flu had been going around Y/N's school and she was fortunate not to get it until late last night. When she got sick it was bad, she did have a good immune system but for some reason, she just got violently sick when a bug or the flu hit her.
It was around 3 AM when the pain and shivering started. Her stomach hurt so much that it woke her up. She knew she needed to go and get her dad or wake him up somehow but the thought of her moving herself just made her shake and tense up. She laid there for a few minutes until she finally decided to get up. When she pushed the covers everything started to ache. Just moving made her feel nauseous but she needed to push through and get to her dad. She took a few breaths and slowly sat up and her world began to spin. After a few minutes of sitting there, it stopped and she started her journey again. When she stood up on the floor her legs started to shake like a newborn foal using its legs for the first time. She slowly but surely made her way to her dad's bedroom using the wall as support. When she got there the door was open, thankfully, and she walked in, her breathing was labored if she didn't sit down soon she would surely pass out. Tim was sprawled out on the right side of the bed meaning the left side was open. Y/N crawled into the vacant spot and curled into him shaking.
It took Tim a good minute to feel the extra warmth and when he did that woke him up instantly. He opened his eyes to find his daughter curled up to him and grew confused. "Baby Girl, what's wrong?" He asked and at first, she didn't answer she was just shaking. He wrapped her in his arms and kissed her forehead and felt it was burning up. "You're burning up." He said and she nodded having registered his voice.
"I don't feel good." She said and he could hear the scratchy voice and then it was followed by a cough. He rubbed her back which soothed her. "I think I'm gonna be sick." She said looking at him with wide eyes and immediately Tim jumped into dad mode. He jumped up and then scooped his 7-year-old up took her to his conjoined bathroom and sat her down just in time for her to expel whatever she ate for supper the night before.
"Just let it all out. It's ok. You'll feel better afterward." He told her as she finished and left her dry heaving. Once she was done she collapsed into her father's chest as silent hot tears raced down her cheeks. "Feel better?" He asked and she nodded her head and then turned in his arms and cuddled into him. He reached up and flushed the toilet. "Wanna try to get some more sleep or drink something?" He asked.
"Sleep." She said and he nodded and stood up with her in his arms. "Wanna sleep with you daddy." She said and he nodded as he walked to his bed and laid her in it.
"I'll be right back." He said and she nodded. Tim walked into the kitchen to grab a bucket and headed back to his bedroom. Y/N watched his every move when he got back. "If you feel like getting sick then do so in this bucket." He said and she nodded and he sat it down on the floor beside her side of the bed. She was out like a light in an instant. Tim debated going back to sleep or just lay there with her. He went with the second option and slipped into bed on his side and sat against the headboard and turned on the TV with the volume low. After 30 minutes of nothing on he found himself drifting off.
Tim wasn't a heavy sleeper to begin with and when it came to Y/N he pretty much had trained his body to listen for her. He started this when she was just a baby and Isabel was gone a lot. They both got a restless 3 hours of sleep before he woke to the sound of her throwing up. He had at some point cuddled up with her and she was just shivering in his arms despite her being hot to the touch. He was quick to sit up and rub her back "You're ok. Let it all out." He said and his heart broke when she started to cry and dry heave. After a good 2 minutes, she stopped and flopped back into the bed exhausted. He looked over at the clock and saw that it was 6 AM. He was already awake and this was his normal time to be up. When he looked back over to his daughter she was fast asleep. He carefully got out and started his routine of getting ready for the day and he needed to call into work and her school as well as make her a doctor's appointment. When he finished he sent a text to Marina to let her know what was going on.
Tim: Hey, Y/N is sick, I'm thinking it's the flu. I'm going to try and get her a doctor's appointment soon. I don't want you sick so I'll be staying with her. I'll let you know what's going on.
In an instant he got a text back.
Marina: Oh no! Poor baby! Yes just let me know what is going on and let me know when you need me. If there is anything you need me to do let me know. I hope she feels better!
He went and checked on her and she was sound to sleep curled up near the edge of the bed. He noticed that the bucket was a little bit fuller than the time he got up and he sighed, he hated it when she was sick. He walked out and back into the kitchen to pour some coffee and call the doctor's office. It rang twice before they answered
"Thank you for calling Clearview Family Physicians. My name is Emma. How may I help you?" She asked
"Hi, my name is Tim Bradford and I'm calling on behalf of Y/N Bradford. She started throwing up at 3 AM and twice more around 6 AM and 6:30 AM. She is also hot to the touch. I know there is the flu going around but I just want to make sure that's what it is." Tim said
"I'm sorry that she's feeling under the weather. We'll certainly get her in and looked at. I have a 10 AM this morning." Emma said and Tim smiled.
"That would be perfect." He said
"Alright. I have her down for 10. We'll see you then." She said
"Thank you." Tim replied back.
"You're welcome." She said and then they hung up.
Tim looked at his phone it was only 7 AM. He figured he would let her sleep in for a little bit before trying to get her to eat or drink something. He needed to call the school next and figured they had enough time to get in and open it. He dialed their number and almost instantly they answered after he pressed call.
"Thank you for calling Clear Creek Elementary School. I'm Brenda. How may I help you?" Brenda asked
"My name is Tim Bradford and I'm calling to let you know that Y/N will not be in school today. She's come down sick." Tim said
"Oh dear. I hope she gets better soon. I'll mark her as absent." Brenda said with so much care in her voice.
"Thank you. We'll let you know what happens and when she'll be back." Tim said with a smile and taking a sip of coffee.
"Sounds great. Thank you for calling. Hope to see her soon." Brenda replied and then they both hung up.
Tim looked down at his watch it was only 8 AM. He had one more call to make but first, he needed to check on Y/N. He sat his coffee down and headed to his bedroom but when he heard the sound of vomiting he rushed to his room and was quick to his daughter’s side. "Shhhh, it's ok baby. Let it all out." He said he was amazed that she had so much left in her. When she was done she caught her breath and looked up at him with unshed tears in her eyes.
"I don't like this." She said and Tim's heart broke.
"I know. But I got you a doctor's appointment at 10 AM and you won't be going to school." He said and she nodded top exhausted and that made him frown. He could see the fight wasn't there and her eyes weren't as bright. "Go back to sleep. I'll wake you up when it gets closer to leaving. You can sleep in the car too." He said and she nodded and laid down and was out like a light. He sighed and stayed there making sure she was asleep before he got up and took the bucket to empty it and then set it down again. As he was checking on her one last time he bent down to kiss her head and felt she was burning up and then how congested she was and then she let out a cough and that made him frown. All those were new symptoms. He got up and saw that the clock only read 8:16 AM he sighed and left the room while digging his phone out and went to Grey's number and hit the contact and it rang for a minute until he picked it up.
"Officer Bradford. What pleasure do I have for you to call?" Grey asked and you could hear the chuckle in his voice.
"Hey, Y/N is sick and I'm gonna need to stay home with her. She tends to cling to me when she's sick." Tim said
"She always has, ever since she was a baby." Grey said with a chuckle. "You take all the time you need and let us know if you need something. I know everyone around here would love to help out. If you need Luna for something just let her know, she would drop everything for that little girl." Grey said and Tim smiled and it was true. When his daughter met Luna it was an instant attachment.
"Thank you, Sir." Tim said "I'll let you know if there is anything." He added.
"Good. Now go and take care of that sweet baby girl. We have it handled over here." Grey said
"I'll keep you updated. I got her an appointment at 10 AM." He said
"Good. Talk to you later and keep us updated." Grey said
"I will." Tim replied and then hung up.
Tim sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He didn't like taking off but when his daughter was this sick he would do anything for her.
When Isabel was around she never took care of Y/N when she was sick all that responsibility fell on Tim and this caused several fights. Then again fights happened because she wasn't around to take care of their daughter. It frustrated him to no end. Yes, she was in her life for 6 years but she was just there she wasn't an active parent and when Y/N tried to be interactive with Isabel she would just shoot her down and send her off to go and find Tim. Tim had watched it happen and watched her face fall and her world shatter a little bit more each time, then she would come over to Tim and he would help her or look at what she did and when Y/N wasn't looking he would just glare at his wife who wasn't even paying attention. She was always too invested in work and going undercover. Tim sighed angrily thinking about all the times he wished he had Isabel's help but she just simply abandoned them.
He looked down at his watch for what seemed like the millionth time that morning and saw that it was 9:20 AM. The doctor's office wasn't that far but he liked being early and he needed to get Y/N up and somewhat dressed. "Alright sweet girl, up we go." He said and lifted her up and that woke her up.
"Daddy?" She asked groggily.
"Hey, Baby Girl. We need to get your teeth brushed and then head to the doctor." He said and she nodded and laid on her head on his shoulder.
"My throat hurts." She said and he nodded as he walked to the bathroom and had her brush her teeth and then he let her throw one of his sweatshirts on and he grabbed her bucket and they were out the door and into the truck. She was so congested and she was coughing nonstop. She was also starting to shiver despite her being in her dad's hoodie. She had fallen asleep on the drive over. He parked in the closest spot he could find to the door and killed the engine and then got out and then got her out she was still asleep as he carried her into the doctor's office. He smiled at the receptionist and with practiced ease he held her and signed her in and then went and sat down with her in his arms as she slept. 10 minutes later and her name was being called.
"Y/N Bradford." The nurse said and he was standing up with her and walking through the door. The jostling around made her wake. "Hey, Sweetie." The nurse said and smiled and Y/N just coughed and snuggled into her father and that made her smiled. "I'm gonna take your temperature, blood pressure, pulse, height and weight." She said and Y/N nodded. Tim put her on the ground and she got her weight and height taken and she just shook like a leaf once those two things were done she was allowed to get back on her dad's lap and she gladly did so. Her temperature was taken and when it beeped the nurse took it out of her mouth "102. She does have a fever." She said and Tim nodded the last two things were taken and then they were taken to a room. Y/N coughed and sniffled and Tim just held her closer.
A few minutes later Dr. Spring walked in and smiled sadly at the sight of the little girl. "Good morning." He said and Tim smiled.
"Good morning." He replied back.
"It says here that she might have the flu. and it looks like she has a fever. Is there anything else?" Dr. Spring asked and Tim nodded.
"She also told me that her throat hurts after I got off the phone with the receptionist and she has started to cough and sound congested. She also started to shiver and when asked to stand to take her weight and height she was just shaking." Tim said and Dr. Spring nodded adding it into the notes.
"I want to run some tests." He said and Tim nodded and slowly began to wake his daughter up and she groggily woke up and the doctor introduced himself and explained everything but she didn't say anything. Her eyes weren't as bright as they had been before she was sick. "Nurse Glass will be in here soon to run the tests." He said and then walked out of the room.
5 minutes later Nurse Glass was walking in and began taking the samples for the tests that Dr. Spring ordered. The flu one went up her nose and she hated that and she started to cry but Tim just held her tighter and when she tried to turn her head she was met with his chest. The other was for strep and that had to be done by swabbing the back of the throat and she reluctantly opened her mouth and when the sample was gotten she started to gag and the nurse was quick to grab a bucket and Y/N threw up. After she was done the nurse threw it away and then walked out.
A few minutes later the doctor was walking back in "It looks like she has the flu, strep, and a sinus infection." He said "I'm gonna get her started on some antibiotics." He said and Tim nodded and then they were free to leave. He carried her out and she was out like a light on his shoulder. He said bye to the receptionist and he was heading to the pharmacy to pick up her meds. Once they were picked up they were heading home and he was parking in the driveway and walking into the house with her. He laid her on the couch and let her sleep.
Tim got her medicine out and read the directions and got some Gatorade out that he had for when he worked out. He walked over to her and woke her up and had her take her medicine and of course she protested but he was quick to let her wash it down with the Gatorade and then she was out like a light again with the TV on low. He made himself busy around the house while still checking on her. "Daddy?" She called out and he was rushing to her from the laundry room.
"Yes, Baby Girl?" Tim asked
"I'm hungry." She said and that made him smile because that was a good sign.
"You wanna try to eat some crackers?" He asked and she nodded. He walked into the kitchen and grabbed them and then headed back. He sat down and opened them and gave her the package and she began to eat slowly. She was keeping them down and the was great. He also had grabbed the thermometer and he checked her temperature and it read about the same. He watched her eyes droop and then she was back to sleep snuggling into her father. He let everyone know what was going on.
This had gone on for serval days and on the 4th day her fever broke and she was back to playing a little bit. She was still congested but her throat didn't hurt anymore and she was still coughing. Her eyes were starting to brighten back up and that made Tim smile.
On the 7th day she was back to her old self and the antibiotics were done and she was no longer congested and her eyes were bright. It was a Wednesday so she was cleared to go back to school with her doctor's note. He watched her skip off into the school and he smiled he was so happy to have his little girl back. Once she was safe inside he started his drive to work, he hated taking time off but if it was to take of his little girl then so be it. When he arrived he was asked how she was and he smiled and told them that she was better and that she went back to school and was back to her old self. Everyone was happy about that now she could get back to her shenanigans, like scaring the living daylights out of Officer Smitty and conning him into doing stuff because he was slightly terrified of her.

Tim Bradford x Reader
Tags/Warnings: Officer!Reader, Female!Reader, Established Relationship, not any real spoilers
.............................................................................................
"How was it?" You ask as Tim enters your car. His RBF turns to a smile as he sees you.
"She's not the worst," Tim says. Tim would never admit if he liked a rookie. Okay, he has made the occasional comment about a rookie being okay.
"But how was your day?" Tim asked as you began to pull out of the parking lot. You and Tim's shared apartment was an incredibly short distance from the station. Very convenient.
Tim rests his hand on your thigh as you begin to speak, "Shitty. I was tied up watching over a crime scene until the detectives arrived. Half of my shift. Six fucking hours," you complained.
"Oohh, so that's why I barely saw you," Tom responded. "sorry it was shitty," he added and fought a smile that was forming.
He thought you were adorable when frustrated.Hell, Tim thought you were adorable almost all the time. When he didn't find you adorable was when you were in action. During those times he found you very, very hot. Watching you kick ass turned him on way more than it should.
You both sit in silence as you drive. The busy streets of LA truly did suck. Especially after twelve hours shifts. Even more so after having had a very shitty twelve hour shift.
"God I just want to sleep. We both have tomorrow off and I want to stay in bed until four P.M." you said and tim laughed.
"Babe, you can stay in bed all day, but I don't think you will. We could go to the shooting range? It's very romantic," Tim says with a smile.
Neither one of you ever questioned how your relationship worked. It wasn't very much like a "normal" one though. Most couples don't spend dates at a shooting range or hand to hand combat training. Or, the best one, the gym. There still were many dates spent at a restaurant, but LA restaurants have lines longer than the great wall of china.
There were the occasional dates when you could convince Tim to go paintballing or when you two would get tickets to a football or baseball game.
"I think that sounds lovely," you say with a smile as you park the car. Tim hated that you always insisted on driving. Not that you were a bad driver but chivalry wasn't dead.
Home at last.
